Sweeping also can require thinking outside of the box. Most of the people running in the Zerg will circle around the same path as everyone else. Probably not even looking for a place to hide just following the Commanders pin.

And if that’s true that’s where the real problem lies.

That’s exactly it. Did the person sweeping look up at the vista (since few people actually look there)? Did they look at those tiny platforms that it looks like only a fool would use?

Seriously is someone blowing the thief dev on a regular basis? So they get to spend 50% of the time invisible and immune to all damage whilst pumping out insane dps? Really? Really? 4s revealed reverted to 3s? Should be 10s min.

It’s amazing that thiefs get BUFFED. Just before the last patch, they announced that thiefs will get their DPS down to more normal levels.

But they chickend out and didn’t do the change, they just changed the timer from 3 to 4 and called that a nerf (lol).

Now, it’s back at 3 and thiefs are just as OP as before.

I really, really wondered what happened inbetween.

Did all the WvW DEVs got a 80 thief on their accounts with zerker gear or so? It’s amazing how they can keep one class so OP. Highest DPS and stealth at will.

What’s next, give them clones or so? Oh, wait…

They really just need to make stealth work in a specific way when it comes to exiting it. If an opponent blocks or evades a skill the thief tries to hit them with while in stealth, the thief is thrown out of stealth with the revealed condition. However if the attack misses due to Out of Range, the stealth stays intact. This would fix the main complaint with thieves.

If I see a naked enemy, it’s one of two things.

Somebody didn’t repair their armor, or they’re pulling a ‘kamikaze’ in an attempt to divert your attention from the real force about to stealth bomb or portal bomb you.

Bailey, use the ground targetting trait. It gets rid of the problem you’re experiencing quite well, as then you can simply throw the traps onto the enemy.

I was going to get on your case, but then I saw the ONE good idea in that rage post…giving abilities that cause reveal to classes. Imagine if they gave this ability to some of the classes that it makes sense with, such as Thieves themselves, Rangers, one of the Engineer turrets, etc.

Show some respect for the fallen.

Any build that becomes the de facto build for an entire class usually does so because it has advantages and perks the other builds don’t have. This fix was quite necessary. No build died today; it just got brought down to earth with the rest of them.

So then shouldn’t we nerf tank Guardians because they can survive too much?

50% nerf? That’s beyond harsh. I would have gone with 20% or 25%, but not 50%. Any good player shrugs off confusion easily with one of the condition removal skills each class has normally, so confusion damage is already pretty meh to begin with. And even when it hits, “Oh wow, I just lost 2K of my 22K HP just to heal the status while I had 12 stacks.” Not that powerful to be honest. That nerf takes it down to 1K, which makes confusion laughable…horribly laughable. My condolences, Mesmers. I’ll kill as many people who QQed about how OP confusion was as I can in WvW for you guys.

2k hp isn’t laughable when I shatter you on top of that. maybe you should find out what tpvp is before you something regarding balance.

Shattering doesn’t connect most of the time on anybody who knows how easy it is to read and counter. You see clones coming at you? Dodge roll through them. Congratulations, they shattered and the person they’re trying to hit took no damage.

That Manekk, is hard to nail down, since the minion is worse than the pet. I have a necromancer I’m building up, and the minor trait for the toughness line creates a minion whenever you kill something, with a cooldown of about 30 seconds on it. The minion does about the same damage as a necromancer using Staff #1, but it’s so stupid that it rarely hits or anything like that, and loses a tenth of its health every second, meaning it’s usually dead before it does any damage.

By the way, if you do the math, if 12 stacks of confusion equals 2000 damage with one move, then 1 stack of confusion equals 166/167 damage to you per attack. It’s already about half as powerful as any other condition.

If they really wanted to nerf it, then put a lower cap on how many stacks of confusion you can put on players in WvW, like maybe a cap of 5-8 (I’m leaning towards 8 personally, since the most confusion stacks I ever get from any mesmer is 8). That way it’s still viable for damage. Or even just make it like burn, and just make it so only the duration increases per hit of confusion (though this would cause several skills to be changed, so I’m not a fan of this idea too much). Don’t outright nerf the starting damage just because there are players who don’t know how to counter it properly.

Ranger Traps are good traited, not traited they’re not that great.

When not traited for them, they seem more like they’re for helping out with kiting. Spike Trap? Immobilize that sucker. Muddy Terrain? Cripple it. Frost Trap? Chill it.

In terms of straight up damage, the traps are useless unless traited for. In terms of just effects that can be useful for kiting, they’re pretty good regardless.

If you don’t want a pet…dare I say play warrior?

On another note, the thought that it’s easier to “give ranger a passive buff when pet is stowed” is an interesting notion. I don’t buy it. Now they have to balance ranger for both when pet is stowed and active. That sounds like twice as much work to me, as an engineer.

I actually do play a Warrior whom not only out performs rangers in dungeons and PvE but also regularly rips them apart in WvW, sPvP being the only place they pose a real threat.

You have no idea how hard I’m laughing right now. Any good ranger will rip through you without many problems, regardless of whether it’s sPvP or WvW.

Trebs are fine IMO. They’re not too powerful, as it can take over 15 minutes for a single treb to take out a reinforced wall. In that amount of time you could have gathered a force and wiped out the treb.

I concur. A Ranger with a dead pet contributes. It does so in a fashion similar to the way a crippled horse contributes to a team pulling a wagon.

That’s to say not equally.

I see no need to keep my pet alive unless it’s my wolf, but that’s for the fear. I just stick with conditions and let my pet do whatever usually.

Ironically, as a Ranger I aim for other rangers as well. They’re just so easy to take out most of the time…which is sad because you’d think that running any dungeons or any content other than open field PvE would be a wake up call to start practicing and being aware of everything. Rampage as One, Swoop, Maul, Hilt Bash, Flame Trap, Spike Trap, Frost Trap, switch to SB, and then just condition the hell out of him. You’d be surprised how many Rangers fall to that from one of their own…it’s facepalm inducing.

That reminds me, there’s this one thief in WvW who keeps PMing me whenever I make him flee or kill him, saying “I’m going to get you ****ing LB Ranger!” I find it hilarious, to be honest.

Ignore him. The only thing that really makes a thief powerful IMO is how stealth works in general. I’ve fought thieves without them using stealth before, and while the fight wasn’t easy, it wasn’t painstakingly hard either. Add stealth into the mix though, and the fight gets thrown in favor of the thief easily. So you fix how stealth functions, possibly with all evaded and blocked attacks forcing you out of stealth, and with out of range attacks and missed attacks that were not caused by an evasion not take you out of stealth, and you fix the problem. Too bad that’s probably a coding nightmare…

A better suggestion would be to lower the percentage of power of said special stealth skills the more you use them in a single battle before you hit out of combat state. Meaning once = full power, 2nd time = 75% power, and 3rd time on is 50% power.

The point of moving traps is so they’re in a tree that would actually benefit them stat wise as well i.e. condition damage.

The problem is that it gimps the trap build more than anything due to having to choose the trap traits instead of the good Wilderness Survival traits such as Bark Skin or Empathetic Bond, both of which help out a trapper’s survival greatly. If they changed it I would probably stop playing my Ranger since my survivability would be taking a big dive.

Your arguments seems a little bit helpless.
Traps to defend keep are useless, low range (even if you trait it), low damage, long cd, not any stopping power.

Compare the tools rangers have with the tools of any other profession you want, rangers will allways have the short end in this comparison. (siege)

That’s the reason i prefer a new weapon (staff) with all the little tools the ranger lack.

PS:
No problem with retaliation using Barrage?
One Guardian with retaliation means 12 × 300 = 3600 damage to the barrage using ranger. If the guardian used the shout on his teammates, you can multiply this with 5.

PPS:
I’m playing 7 different lvl 80 professions in WvWvW, maybe this is some backup.

Combine Flame Trap, Viper’s Nest, and Frost Trap, and you can make somebody on a ram helpless and force them to disengage. If you’re defending a keep, you are not going to be able to wipe enemies by yourself…you use the skills to keep them from the Ram as long as possible so backup can arrive. And no, never been killed by retaliation, and I rarely see it.

Next patch is a few days away, if that patch doesn’t fix Ranger up to a decent state then only the most stubborn and delusional will continue to hold on to the class. Wait for that patch, check the forums for a few days and then decide.

No, only the people who have fun playing the class will continue to play it. Those of us who still play the ranger aren’t playing for pure stats and min/maxing…we play because we love the feel of the class and have fun playing it.

EDGE, from what I’ve seen we don’t crush with numbers on our BL usually. It’s usually an even fight, with our guys coming out on top. Or like that rare occurrence where we were outnumbered by your guys and somehow managed to survive outside of your hills.

Exactly Durzlla. Between taking a SB and a LB in a tower/keep defense fight, I’ll take the LB every time because you have the range to make the hits hurt, and you’ve got the defensive utility of the entire bow at your disposal.

See an enemy on a Flame Ram? Knock them off with #4. See several people attacking the gates? Throw a #5 their way to make them back off (this work well even if you’re behind the gate aiming the AoE straight at it). Add a #3 to throw 10 stacks of vulnerability on an enemy while your arrow carts and allies are hitting them, and a #2 to help focus fire them, and you have the perfect defensive tool. There’s a reason why you see so many rangers use a LB when they’re not on arrow carts for defense.

1. to hit with #4 down from the wall, you have to stand directly above him, a bad place .
2. #5 will kill the ranger himself (retaliation).
3. 10 stack on ONE enemy? lol, there are 30-80 enemies.
4. pirce don’t work very well from walls, the arrow will hit the ground 0.1 feet behind the target. (if it hits anyway)
5. #2 will be dodged, reflected most of the time, but if you hit him, it’s good.
6. rangers only range ae is on the LB, this is the only reason they chose this weapon.
7. you can’t send your pet down with guard anymore.
8. the roots from entangle will be killed after 0.1 seconds (remember: 30-80 enemys hitting the door)

1. That’s for keeps. For towers, you can stand to the side and hit them.
2. Depends on the tier you’re in, and where you’re at. T5 doesn’t have much problems with Retaliation usually.
3. Depends on the tier you’re in, and where you’re at. I stick with the home borderlands so the guys at Eternal don’t have to worry about it.
4. You don’t need to have pierce on to use the LB for defense (I don’t)
5. Which is why it’s one of those “I’ll use it for the hell of it” abilities.

I’d prefer if Opening Strike was like a Guardian’s Virtues, in that it occurs every so often. For example, every 10 hits Opening Strike is added again. It would be much more useful then, with a trait lowering the 10 hits to 8 or 6.

I see them all the time in dungeon parties, along with necros, other rangers, thieves, etc.

I’ve constantly been reading in the Ranger forums how “Rangers bring nothing to the table, everything they do another class does better…” It’s the same old song and dance, and people seem to be doing it here too, except you guys are missing the one thing necros do better than everybody else…CONDITIONS. From playing the class for the first 10 levels so far, I’m seeing more weapon skills set up for condition damage than anything else. Sure this is only the first 10 levels, but the weapon skills usually tell you exactly how a class can be set up, as can the slot skills. Speaking of which, I’ve already gotten the 2nd tier of utility skills unlocked and available to buy/look at, so I’m seeing quite a lot of skills aimed at controlling conditions like the weapons.

The people who complain “oh my necro can’t bring anything to the table” can shove it, because Necro has something it’s good at, just like Ranger.

Is Ranger A good solo profession ?

Same here Sarlack. Warriors are by far the easiest class to take down for a Ranger. They run into traps, you can keep them at bay with range, and it’s very hard for them to do substantial damage to a Ranger as long as you keep back.
