Why can't everyone use all armor?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Saelune.5316

Saelune.5316

Is this your first RPG? Or have you been playing Skyrim lately? Im used to DnD, so having different classes use different armor makes sense to me. When you spend your time honing your body to fight, heavy armor is easy to bear, while when you focus on honing your magical craft, you ignore your body, and dont want heavy armor weighing you down while you try to cast your spells. Rangers and thieves want to be mobile AND protected, so medium (actually light, since light is basically no armor) is what they use.

Kiel has been the main link so far. Part of the point is that though they might not all start connected, they are to entertwine or end up connected. Kiel might not be invovled at all in the next part, but maybe some new person or thing introduced in the next one will end up being involved in Kiel and/or Evon’s business in the part after that.

I believe the initial release of info said we could get treasure from the chests. They must have taken that out and left the Skritt to explain how a parachute basket got inside a JP.

The kites arent moved, they land there. They are always under cracks to the sky. I noticed this in the one JP thats really dark and full of Shadow Skelk. Even the OS one clearly came through the giant opening in the ceiling.

Probably depends on what part of the game you favor. PvE would just be achievements I guess, apparently fractals is based on your fractal level. Dunno PvP. If you could recreate the Personal Story...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Saelune.5316

Saelune.5316

Up until the order, the Personal Story is great. You’re the hero, it doesnt try to acknowledge the game is an MMO with other players, and thats how it should be. Yeah, the game is an MMO, but doesnt mean I have to share the spotlight. I dont mind if they had someone as the NPC face, but let him be MY lackey. Let me sit in the big chair and make it seem like Im telling him to speak for me, instead of making the player errand boy. As for Cadalbog, make it something that maybe only appears near the end that the player uses, instead of making it some awesome gift we dont get. Or get rid of it. Its not as hard as people make it seem to glorify the player, you did it for so long before.

Main Cities

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Saelune.5316

Saelune.5316

LA is the hub city of the game, since it is neutral to all races. Rata Sum is the Asuran city, so its more for the Asuran players, Divinity’s Reach is focused on the humans, and its for human players, and Black Citidel for Charr, etc. Why do we need to spread out among the cities anyways? Its good to have a one stop shop so to speak. In the real world, the biggest cities are usually culturally diverse.

Why Novels and Short Stories?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Saelune.5316

Saelune.5316

Books are the better methods to telling the stories of other heroes, as opposed to hijacking our personal stories. Plus it is different to read a novel than in game text. Unless you’d prefer to sit at a campfire and have the old Charr story teller, Forzar Pageturner go “once upon a time” and ramble for a few hours while you could be killing stuff.

You dont have to read them, nor is it ever going to be needed to understand the GW world, its just for those who want to get an indepth story about some aspect of it.
Maybe you just dont even care about the lore anyways? Not that you have to.

From Hero to Nobody in 80 levels

I agree that it’s interesting. It works in an MMO though, do they really expect me to believe that me and the other 1500 people standing around in lion’s arch were all the hero of Tyria? Being a cog in a larger machine at least makes some sense.

Everyone but me are other adventurers. As far as Im concerned, I and only I am the hero. I think MMOs need to stop trying to canonize everyone’s story for everyone else, and play it out that way. Or are there also a million Snaff Savants who made the same golem a million times with the same crew? It suspended the idea of other main characters for so long, why forget that halfway through?

GW1 to GW2 - Steps Forward and Backward

Saelune.5316

Also, I started playing GW1 recently. Its good, sure, but Im quickly reminded what I love about GW2…its different. GW1 is a generic MMO

Wut. GW2 is far closer to a generic MMO than GW1 was in every sense of the word. Static skills, identical crafting system, lack of hybrid classes, forced partying, etc, etc. In fact, the focal point of the original post, the lack of ability to create and customize your own NPC party is a huge part of what makes GW2 MUCH more generic than GW1. You should really think about what words mean before you just blurt out nonsense.

There isnt grinding in GW2

aha, pwaha, BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Kid, Grind Wars 2 didn’t earn its nickname for nothing. lololol…I can’t believe you actually said that. There is no context in the world that would make that statement even remotely accurate.

But since you’re maintaining that ridiculous “no grinding in gw2” stance, answer me this. How do you get an ascended back slot without grinding?

250 T6 rare mats? 1,850 fractal tokens? Oops, both grinding.

Go on, tell me the other non-grinding means of obtaining BiS gear for the back. Surely I’ve forgotten the non grinding option. I’ll wait.

Good job cutting off the rest of my post explaining what I mean by grinding. Ive yet to grind in GW2. I have had lots of fun without ever grinding. Its not my fault people who grind forget they are playing a game meant for fun. Ive yet to need an ascended back item. So has most players, if not all.

Also Mr Obnoxious, from the sound of your post, sounds like you should give up on GW2, you clearly dont know how to have fun in it. Why torture youself if you dont like it?

As for the NPCs, that puts me off. Its not a single player offline RPG like Torment or Baldur’s Gate where I need NPC allies. Maybe some people like it, but not me.

GW1 feels lonlier with the way the explorable maps are. I like that I might run across other players anywhere. In GW1, I know if I am alone or not, cause its limited to the party…lame.

As for exploring in GW2, there are alot of interesting things to find, just need to push yourself to look around. I still find events in places I go often that are new to me.

Also new characters help me re-see old locations.

As someone who went from “free 2 play” games to this, I assure you, they are NOT greedy. You want greedy, play Marvel Heroes. Theres a sale on steam. Only $40 to play as Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, and Ms Marvel….. forget that.

I can buy anything from the store with in game gold. That alone is a big step up from every other cash shop ever.

Also, I started playing GW1 recently. Its good, sure, but Im quickly reminded what I love about GW2…its different. GW1 is a generic MMO. A well built, fully furnished generic MMO, but still. I also like the individually defined classes, as opposed to the dual classes.

There isnt grinding in GW2, not in the way that is so bad to a game. All the grinding in this game is optional, and most people who grind need to rethink why they play games in the first place. I feel myself grinding in GW1 though….to progress. THATS THE BAD GRINDING.

I agree about LS though….permenant content is so much better.

I don’t think you need to go full melee to be effective as a Ranger

You don’t. But the problem is people still get the mentality ranger use bow and longbow.

If I’m a warrior or thief I get frawned on if I use range weapon. But most people don’t have a problem with ranger using bow.

If people just think that melee = high risk more damage. Range = lower risk less damage. It is much easier to understand why ranger is design that way.

Something about -range-r that screams ranged weapons. I mostly use bows on my ranger cause I liek keeping my distance, and they arent bad in a rangers hand. I prefer having a range and a close up weapon set on my classes. Longbow obviously fits the range side, but I often use shortbow as my close up, since it seems to serve me better than their other melee choices.

The experience scrolls were nice… if you didn’t already get all your toons past 20. All my toons are to high of a level, making the scroll pointless. Anet really shouldn’t have made it account bound.

Word on the street is that a new race could be in the pipelines…so save your lvl scrolls for that. Like Tengu as a playable race next month for one year anny. It’s all rumor, but hey, I wouldn’t put it past anet at the rate they are going.

I’ve also got 8 lvl 80’s, and I’m still excited about the scroll. But I’ve been wanting to recreate one of them anyhow.

Why would you do that? Then you would miss the new starting area. I’d rather use it on a character from a race that I have already experienced so I don’t have to repeat content.

Um…you can just do the starting stuff AS a level 20 character. Not like you are barred from it once you get too high level. Im still doing my level 60 personal story missions on my level 80.

Yeah but it’s not the same experience scaled down.

Then miss out. My point is that you can still do it, and still enjoy it, you just can enjoy it faster. Dont have to wait to level up for the next mission.

Well you’re a touchy one. I’m not ‘missing out’ because I choose to use a consumable differently than you, or because I have a preference at which level I wish to experience certain content. I was just sincerely curious as to why someone would choose to take a shortcut through new content rather than old when given the choice.

Its only a shortcut if you make it a shortcut.

Let me paraphrase……“The free stuff you gave me is NOT what I wanted, therefore I’m very angry and I’m going to pitch a fit!”

I’m FAR from being an Anet Fanboi, but it’s just amazing at all of the people complaining/whining/QQing (in various threads) about the rewards from the AP chest; something we didn’t even have in game a few weeks ago. Talk about an entitled attitude….

If you don’t like it, can’t use it or don’t have room for it…….delete it. Confucius say, it’s better for someone to think you a spoiled, immature, ungrateful or self centered person, than for you to open your mouth and prove it. A lot of folks have been doing that lately.

While I ultimatley agree with you, this start at level 20 scroll is rather poorly placed. Getting 5000 AP means you been playing awhile, and I doubt many people with it will have extra character slots lying around. Im at 9 at 3000ap, and I dont intend on getting more. PvP items, WvW badges, weapon skins are things that can always have use, but a scroll for new characters specifically not so much. If it was just an xp scroll that any character can use though, then people could still me more likely to have use for it.

All Weapons for All Classes

Ok so, based on bundles and what have you, all classes can, lore wise, use all weapons. The weapons we as a class can use though are the ones our classes have “personalized”.
Guardians using their divine powers through their hammers, engineers modifying a harpoon to shoot rockets, a necromancer syphoning life through their dagger’s blade, etc. It makes no sense for every class to have every weapon, and face it, (magic) staves belong only to magic classes. And not everyone needs to use a greatsword.
