You really don’t want to be using crests. Instead of Rabid crests use Chrysocola or Coral Orbs for a condition build.
The only builds I’m aware of that utilize Rabid gear do not use Flamethrower. The most popular right now are probably P/P HGH with either Grenades or Toolkit.
Would you mind linking the build you were last using on your Warrior when you felt useless?

I’m gonna assume this is an old link because the traits don’t jive with your utilities. Traited for banners, but no banners?
Now that there’s a stunbreak on Healing Mist you could give it a try. I haven’t played FT in WvW in a long time.

Well what does your build look like now, and what aspect of the game will your build be used for (PvP, PvE, WvW)?
“Build” encompasses everything: weapons, heal/utilities/elite (6-0), armor/trinkets, traits, sigils, runes, and consumables.
Linked Phineas’ guide a ways up the thread.
So rabid would be better in WvW? How does the build do in WvW anyway?
For Rabid in WvW I wouldn’t necessarily go with FT. More likely a P/P HGH build with either Grenades or TK.
Yet I have issues surviving with a warrior.
Am I just bad?
Consider what I said about tanking being completely different in GW2 than WoW. In GW2 you have to actively Dodge/Parry/Block, where in WoW that was all passive. You can’t just stand there in Soldier gear an expect everything to be okay.
I’d also like some more elaboration on what fell through on the Warrior. Tanking in WoW is completely different than “tanking” (and I use that term loosely) in GW2. I agree that gearing full Soldier is going to make you feel pretty ineffective, unless you’re in a zerg environment.
Well you could probably get away with a much smaller PSU and half the RAM. Dump that cash (even more if you step down to a 1TB) into a better video card/CPU.
It’s simply because the portion of your damage coming from direct damage (as opposed to conditions) is higher.
Just because you can apply Burning with the Flamethrower doesn’t mean you should be speccing for condition damage. Here’s a good read for ya.

Currently an i7 is a bit overkill for gaming. At least that’s what I read when building a new rig earlier this year.
I’ll have to take a look at my FPS tonight in some larger WVW fights to get some numbers, but I don’t recall having issues with my setup:
i5 3570K
8GB DDR3 1600
GTX 660
256GB SSD
ASRock Z77E-ITX LGA 1155
24" Monitor

I can’t really speak towards PvE or the Thief as i spend little time on both.
Regarding kits I typically run a single kit(occasionally 2) build. One or two kits is usually the norm from what I’ve seen. Leaving a utility slot for something like Rocket Boots or Elixir S. I’m currently running Mask’s P/P + TK HGH.
Depending on how long you’ve been away from the game give Warrior and Guardian another shot. Also what exactly didn’t you like about Warrior/Guardian? Answering that could help us out, since you can technically melee (in some capacity) as any profession in GW2.
Not sure what you’re talking about.
EG now has a stunbreak on Healing Mist.
Elixir Build usually refers to HGH/409, and they usually run Grenades or Toolkit.
100 Nades has been dead for months. It was a gimmicky build anyway.
I mainly plan on doing PvP and WvWvW.
Engineer is a top-tier PvP and WvW class. I wouldn’t worry about that.
Yup. Enjoy.
What aspect of WvW are you looking to excel at?
Play both into the 30’s when you can mess with elites. Then you’ll have had enough time to get a feel for both. Personally Guardian is boring as far as gameplay is concerned. I’ve tried 3 times. Its Warrior for me.
Engis still suffer from a lot of bugs and horrible traits, apart from Grenades kits are useless.
What a load of crap. Engineer probably has more viable builds than any other profession.
Just play the game. It gets better when you stop trying to compare it to other games. Its really not all that hard to pick up.
Making #2 a blast finisher would IMO make the FT a little OP. It already does good AOE damage and on a short CD. It’s been a while since I played my other classes, but I don’t recall any class having both fields and finishers on the same weapon. Even the bomb kit doesn’t give you a blast finisher without using the big ol bomb for it and with a heavy CD. I find it acceptable to switch to EG #4 for a blast finisher or use mines.
FT smokescreen should however create a smoke field. Combined with EG #4, it would make the most sense as a viable getaway.
EG has a field and finisher on the same weapon.
That just means you’re warrioring it all wrong.
/This
Doesn’t jive. No thanks.
I’m actually wondering why crossbows aren’t in this game. What’s the point of a long bow and a short bow? Just toss the short bows and replace with crossbows…
What you suggest makes no sense. Crossbow is essentially a personal ballista. Shortbow is a quick firing shorter range bow that the Longbow. A Crossbow would function more like the Warrior’s Rifle. A long range, single target, slower ranged weapon.
Polearms would be nice too. But definitely odd that the weapon pictured in the class artwork doesn’t exist in the game.
Well having a blast finisher with a fire field would really jive with the Juggernaut trait. And give the kit some more group utility.
gw2buildcraft happens to have none of the recent trait changes. And intothemists and gw2skills both have PvP and PvE/WvW modes now.
Might want to use a current calculator like qw2skills or intothemists.
Unless they fixed something you’ll find Static Discharge with thrown Elixirs quite buggy. I haven’t tried it lately so it may be okay. Definitely post your results though after some game time.
Not really that revolutionary. I’ve done it in the past with decent results (in full zerker). I’d offer up some changes though.
Drop Rifled Barrels for Go for the Eyes, Sitting Duck, or even Modified Ammo if you’re group is heavy on conditions. Unless you’re chasing someone down Rifled Barrels really isn’t all that effective. Rifle 3 & 5 are most effective when you’re toe to toe with someone. You also might want to consider dropping Empowering Adrenaline for Speedy Kits. And Sigil of Fire on your Rifle. This is an HGH build so you should also be running boon/might duration runes.
Why would you build for Conditions with FT/EG? Especially since you went through the trouble of explaining how conditions are inferior to direct damage. It’s been discussed to death how that setup favors direct damage and not conditions.
Engineer is ranged in focus and has a lot of flexibility – if you try one, play with the kits and see if there are any you like to give yourself extra skills and different options in combat.
Just because an Engineer has possibly the max range potential in the game doesn’t mean they’re a range focused profession. Yes they can equip a Grenade kit and sit at 1500 range, but the vast majority of weapon setups have you getting up close and personal or are more effective the closer you are to your opponent.
A combination of crafted and orrian temple gear should be a good start.
Hammer and Sword/Warhorn is a great setup if you’re just running around open world doing quests/events, want to knock stuff around and have some mobility too. I always keep a Longbow in my bag as well.
Any updates on this? Kind of annoying.
You could always try out an FT/EG spec. It’s very “dual spec” as you put it. I play mostly WvW now, but this guy has had an up to date FT/EG guide running for a long time. I have used some of his older builds for PvE with good success in the past.

It’s just the nature of unique items. You can try and contact customer service to exchange one for another.
Cond necro is good. but since u like range, its wont be a choice for u. cond necro is more about throwing all 5 staff skill and then jump in with dagger to deal close combat dps. you can use axe but it only 600 range. scepter is ok but its dps wont be good.
if you like pure range damage like ranger, staff -fire element is awesome, has 1200 range and high dps + high crit.
another choice is mesmer with phatasma build. simply using GS/Staff, keep your 3 phantasmas alive to deal damage + your own dps. mesmer is more fun than element but its have utility skill so people will ask you to do things like portal them.Element : high dps, high crit, squishy
mesmer: fun, high dps, clone help keep u alive,
necro : ok dps, slow with weapon, hard to die.
Why would a condition Necro drop all 5 marks then jump in with Dagger? I think you’re thinking of a Wells Powermancer since main-hand Dagger does ZERO condition damage. Condition Necro uses Scepter+Dagger and Staff.
Toolkit: 1st and 2nd swings of the chain are the same cast time as Blowtorch. The 3rd swing is longer because it hits harder.
Elixir Gun: I’ve never had issue with cast times on #1 or #2 and I used to use EG extensively.
Flamethrower: #1 is channeled. I don’t know what you’re gripe is here.
TLDR; No issues from my end.
There’s the growing flamethrower build. You might want to look at the forums for this one. Good for leveling IMO because of it’s AOE, but has camera angle bugs causing it to miss 90% of the time.
I don’t recall hearing anything about the FT miss issue recently. I was under the impression it was largely fixed. Even more so if you don’t use automatic targeting and use your mouse to aim.
Condition Necro can be relatively simple to play, but you must consider the simpler the game play the more boring it will be. Is why I don’t like playing Condition Necro. Can’t knock it’s effectiveness though.
For PvE @ lvl 35 I’m assuming you’re referring to leveling and doing world events. Axe+Shield / Sword+Warhorn should do nicely.
The wonderful thing about the Engineer is that if you can make it work, it’s viable.
Guardian was beyond boring to level. Created and deleted 3 so far that never made it past the 30’s. My go to alt, which now shares “main” status with my Engineer, is my Warrior. I did the same thing with Mesmer as my Guardian attempts. The mesmer definitely wasn’t boring, but I hate that the illusions are tied to an opponent.
Okay, so I currently have 2 pistols, FT, toolkit, rocket boots, and the supply crate.
I am still in berserker’s gear atm.
Hopefully I can do some damage with that.
I would probably want to swap your second pistol for a shield for the utility and finishers. Especially since you’re in berserker. P/P is def a cond setup, while P/S could go either way.
Also EG has great synergy with FT since it adds a stunbreak (which you currently lack), another blast finisher, more healing, another combo field, and condition removal.
EDIT: Crap. Now I wanna play FT/EG again….

You can also maintain permanent swiftness with hgh builds
If you trait for Speedy Kits and/or get lucky with RNG.
The only suggestion I can make is to trait for the Banner if you’re going to use one. As far as too far into Disc, you could always pick up Signet Mastery. Don’t fret though, resetting your traits is cheap.

A little on the tanky side, but you could always swap out some pieces for Rampager if you want more damage. Also I’m just running Runes of the Undead because they were cheap. I’m pretty sure Mask’s build uses boon duration runes and condition duration food. Traits are the same, and stats are close. I’m just using gear I could buy with Karma/Badges.
