Definitely give Warrior a shot, and if getting bored is an issue give Engineer a shot.
The change to Axe means you now need to land all 3 parts of the auto attack chain to get the damage. I run Unsuspecting Foe and used to use Hammer and Axe/Shield, but switched to Sword from Axe. Its so much more versatile.
The orrian temples also offer rabid armor and trinkets.
Also recommend the Warrior.
Both. My two favorite professions.
I run the same trait distribution but with signet mastery and destruction of the empowered/mobile strikes for roaming. Healing Signet/Bulls Charge/Stomp/Dolyak Signet/SoR. Its pretty fun and most effective in small groups.
I’ve been running 0/10/30/0/30 with Hammer and Sword/Shield and liking it. Healing Signet/Bulls Charge/Stomp/Dolyak Signet/SoR
You could go Runes of Hoelbrak if Malandru is too pricey. Should go nicely with the might stacking on Forceful Greatsword, and you still get -20% cond duration.
I’m going to second 0/20(III,X)/20(II,X)/0/20(VI,VIII) + 10. If you need more condition removal go with Cleansing Ire, or a bit more damage Furious. Both should offer good Adrenaline gain.
As far as gear goes You’re going to want a good deal of crit to keep the Might stacks flowing. Aside from that I really don’t know. Possibly Knights armor with Zerk weap and trinkets.
There’s exotic karma gear you can buy at the Orr temples
Armor: Rabid/Soldier/Magi
Trinkets: Rabid/Soldier/Magi/Cavalier/Wayfarer’s
Not really anything good for a Thief. Most of my Thief’s gear is crafted (Full Carrion).
This may help you find out where to get the gear you want.

I felt the same way as you about my Mesmers. None of them even made it to level 30 before getting deleted.
Try a different profession perhaps. You do have 5 char slots.
With addition of Torment to Sw #4 I’d take that over Wh for condition application.
That calculator is way out of date. And to take Bomb Kit without increased radius is probably not a good idea. Also if you want to stack confusion you’re probably gonna want to use cond duration food (rare veggie pizza) so all that confusion you’re stacking doesn’t drop off before the charges are consumed.
If stacking confusion is your goal you’re going to want to prioritize cond damage over power perhaps?
I too hate GS. Just switched to this last night, and so far so good in duels and skirmishes. The glaring obstacle is still blind spam though.
You could easily swap Destruction of the Empowered to Warrior’s Sprint as needed.
The abilitys on warhorn count as shouts and will remove condi and if you spec into shout heals they will heal you also.
Pretty sure that’s not the case. It’s the Quick Breathing traits that causes Warhorn abilities to remove conditions.
I’ve never tried SD in PvP, only WvW, but give this a shot.

Power Wrench isn’t all that necessary in a build like this. At least in my experience the points in Tools to pick up Power Wrench are better spent elsewhere.
The one you enjoy playing the most, and only you can answer that question.
I like my Leggionare Maul. It’s one of the bigger ones.
You’re correct in that Thieves cannot stealth for extended periods of time and just walk around stealthed indefinitely, but you can stealth in combat every few seconds which you cannot do in WoW.
Thieves are able to permastealth in PvP also, no? Ok, they will be only good for trolling (since they had to spec for it, so not that much DPS output), but still.. Or am I wrong?
You can but you have to chain stealth. I was comparing to WoW where you just hit your Stealth button and walk around for hours without having to maintain it (aside from not getting caught).
Create all 3 head into the mists and test ’em out against the golems and enemy npcs.

Of the 3 Warrior is my favorite. I’ve gotten a Guard into the 30s on three separate occasions and deleted them. I haven’t tried my Thief since they added Torment to P/D #3, but I’ve been meaning to.
Some pretty interesting ideas here. I was actually spit-balling some ideas on how to address this today. This has always been something that has bothered me, too.
For example:
- Have kits respect the existing back item flag. If you have a back item and you want to show it, hide the kit. If you don’t have a back item or choose to hide it, always show the kit. Obviously this makes it a little harder than usual to tell what kit you are using, so:
- A nameplate icon similar to Elemental Attunements would be a good addition (I may add this regardless if we can get the art
)
- Move the kit somewhere else on your body. I know, crazy right? For example, who doesn’t like a sweet fanny-pack?
Hopefully this finally gets resolved soon, and I’ll do what I can to see that happen. Keep in mind, as Colin mentioned before, that there are some pretty beefy projects going on that are consuming our engineering time. But that doesn’t exactly mean we can’t sneak stuff in here and there
.

Don’t move the kit off the back. I happen to be one of the Engineers that likes the hobosacks. And as long as the kits are all unique there’s no need for an attunement icon like Elementalist. I forgot to look, but are Bomb Kit and Toolkit still the same graphic?
However, IF (and that’s a big if) kits can be hidden in the future an attunement-like icon will be necessary.
SD w/Healing Turret won’t really suffer a damage loss aside from the loss of Drop Stim.

The 3rd trait pick in Firearms is a tossup. You can add 5 stacks of Vuln to every Net Shot with Sitting Duck, or if you’re running in a condition heavy group could go with Modified Ammo.
That setup looks pretty good to me. I have my traits and gear more towards the tanky side (10/0/30/20/10)full PVT with zerk weapons) for trolling and zerg fights. I have played around with a condition version in spvp though and it was definitely fun.
Bomb Kit/Toolkit could go condition or power, but FT/EG is definitely a power setup.
If you want to go the boon/healing route the best setup would probably be P/S Healing Turret/Bomb Kit/Elixir Gun/Rocket Boots/Supply Crate. Boon/Healing and Rifle don’t really go well together since it lacks a blast finisher. It’s more of a CC/Burst weapon. If you want to do as much damage as possible with the Rifle you’d probably end up with a full SD build, which offers almost zero support unless you run Healing Turret. Trying to mix the two (looks like what you’re going for) will get you a pretty lackluster build I think.
(edited by Sagramor.7395)
Probably the single best early utility I picked up on my Engineer was Elixir B. Turrets even now field unwieldy. Rocket Boots is also a good one. Or you could start looking at the kits. I remember Bomb kit feeling downright OP at early levels.
Well one thing to be mindful of is that due to the way the stats are rounded you get a higher return on Crit Damage from trinkets than armor. So I wouldn’t load up armor with Off and trinkets with Def gear. Likely the other way around, if you were gonna split it.
I got a copy from GoG a while back and couldn’t get back into it.
Warrior, Necro, Ele, Thief, Ranger all get passive 25% movement speed through either a trait or signet. the others may also, but i’m not sure off-hand.
On second thought I’ve never been crazy bout stacking sigils in WvW. Instead of a stacking sigil what about Emerald jewels instead of Beryl with the oil of course? Would bring stats to:
Attack: 3082
Crit: 19% (20% dmg)
Armor: 3470
HP: 27052
I don’t normally run with a Zerg, since my when I’m playing usually doesn’t line up with the ZvZ action. But I’d like to transition from my current build which is decent for solo, and pretty nice for small groups to something that’ll be better in larger scale fights without going full shout healing. I think what you suggested may work.
Switch to oil.
Impact on Hammer
Perception on Sword
Restoration on Warhorn
Balanced Stance is only in there because I really don’t know what else to slot. In my current build I’m running Dolyak, Bull’s Rush, Stomp/Signet of Fury. I don’t need Bull’s Rush now that I have the Sword, and I really want to transition from Signet of Fury to Stomp. I’ll mess around with what to replace Balanced Stance with. Possibly EP or SIO.
That seems solid to me, Sagramor, but if what Linc says is true then that meta has left the station.
You already bought the gear, so give it a shot. I personally don’t play Grenade HGH because that much ground targeting makes the game not fun anymore. I play the toolkit version of P/P HGH. It’s essentially the same gear, and trait resets are cheap so you could always try that.
Well if I kept my current trinket setup (zerk trinkets and soldier back with exquisite ruby jewels) as opposed to that in the build I could get to 20% crit chance.
Calc > 20% crit > Current build
Attack: 3302 > 3268 > 3092
Crit: 4% > 20% > 31%
Armor: 3380 > 3140 > 2973
HP: 27952 > 24632 > 22372
I’ve never really played my Warrior at this end of the tank spectrum so I’m not sure how big of a hit 240 armor and 3320 hp is to get up to 20% crit? I suppose it would be a gain over my current Unsuspecting Foe setup.
Typical P/P HGH Grenades is 30(V, VIII, XI)/10(VI)/0/30(II, X, XI)/0 + H/B/Nades/S. You sacrifice the Speedy Kits for: Bleed on crit, 20% recharge redux on Pistols, 100 precision, and 100 cond dmg.
Yea, I was kind of hung on Backpack Regen being part of the theme so I completely overlooked Protection Injection, but in the front lines Protection Injection is very nice. Also jives with all the other sources of Protection. As for Stabilized Armor I would swap it out with Cloaking Device as needed since both have their place.
If you’re really getting beat on you should have good protection up-time.
3 sec on crit (20sec CD)
5 sec on CC (5 sec CD)
4 sec on hit 25% chance (30 sec CD)
+15% Protection duration
+35% Boon duration
Like Linc said the big thing with a build like this is going to be getting good at the combos.
2 Water Fields
1 Light Field
1 Fire Field
1 Smoke Field
5 Blast Finishers
2 Projectile Finishers (100%)
You can do it however you want. There are no rules aside from making everything in your build work together.
Well you don’t need Power Shoes if you’re taking Speedy Kits. If you’re going to use Bombs (especially with healing) you need Forceful Explosives. Pistol/Shield is much better set for this type of build. 2 Sigils, Poison, Blind, Projectile Reflect/Knockback/Blast Finisher, and Block/Daze/Projectile Finisher are better than what the Rifle brings to the table. Also Dolyak Runes heal for very little.
I’ll just link some possible changes instead of typing it all out. Could change Hydromancy to Energy if you need to dodge more.

I actually like the Orr temple armor on my Engineer, and to a much lesser extent the Invaders.
I really miss Arcanum, BTW.
Not trying to hijack the thread, but I’ve been contemplating switching my build up from a Hammer + Axe/Shield Unsuspecting Foe build to a Hammer + Sword/Warhorn build very similar to this. So I figured I’d share.
Already have the Soldier armor with Melandru Runes, so in the interest of saving some cash (and not killing my existing build) I was hoping to stick with the Dogged March/Melandru/Food method of condition handling along with some extra from Warhorn (namely for dealing with Torment).
I too am kind of stumped on the Sword/Warhorn sigils. Gonna give Life and Energy a try. Any other tips?
And what exactly would a sub-80 lvl character need gold for?
Keeping your gear up to snuff if what you’re getting from drops/rewards isn’t cutting it. Or to buy crafting mats.
I agree you should save up until level 80. Laurel trinkets cant’t be used until then anyway. And it never occurred to me until i saw someone post it but make sure you use a karma booster before you double click your jugs of karma because they’ll go a lot further then.
I definitely second this. Also bank your karma jugs until you’re ready to spend some karma, this goes double if you have more than one character.
The best time to get events done is most likely prime time right after dailies reset. If you’re outside of Queensdale or any other areas with a good events circuit I make no promises though.
Good luck. It’s a significant improvement over the original shopping list.
If you need to skimp any more you could always cut the RAM down to 8GB.
Would you rather be the guy hiding in the Shadow Refuge or the guy running into the Shadow Refuge with Staggering Blow/Stomp/Earthshaker to kill the little brat that’s been poking him and running away all day.
There’s no sound effect I hate more in this game than that of a Thief’s daggers plinking on my armor.
Something like this.

If you want to use the Grenade variant just swap TK for Grenades, drop the points in Inventions, and max out Explosives to get Grenadier.
This is pretty much what I run. It’s a little on the tankier side, but it’s the gear I was able to get without going to great lengths (dungeon running). Crafted weapons and jewels, and the armor and trinkets were all from Orr temples.

I don’t recall what my settings were at (likely automatic), and it’s a little tricky to try and watch my FPS while in bigger encounters. I was using overwolf’s fps overlay, and in some of the bigger fights with a lot of players and spell effects I was definitely into the 30s. Didn’t have any true ZvZ last night, but a few breakouts with large numbers of players. “Idle”, and smaller encounters were almost double my bottom number. I wish I had some sort of logger for you to give you a better idea.
Like Stormcrow said, though, in the serious ZvZ fights you’re gonna get some steep fps drops, and there’s not a whole lot you can do about it.
T1 zerg = tier 1 refers to WvW rankings and zerg is well zerg
