Rank: Top 250 since Season 2
#5 best gerdien in wurld
No, we’re not the weakest class in the game. If we were we wouldn’t be the 5th pick in PvP.
Damage: Average or slightly above average. One thing’s for sure is we’re not slacking in this department.
Health pool: We don’t facetank like warriors. It’s our blocks, blinds, invuln, that makes up for our low health pool.
Conditions: You’re pretty much on queue here but “one condition” isn’t the reason why we’re slacking. It’s the Burn mechanic, our F1 isn’t AOE and all of our burns applications are for single targets. It’s why it’s the best 1v1 build but crappy (compared to other condi classes) in Zerg 3v3+ fights. I can elaborate further if need be.
Weapons: The only crappy weapons we have is Shield and maybe Mace. Everyone else uses Hammer (meta), Staff (meta), GS, Scepter, Focus, Sword. In that order.
You’re right about one thing. HoT could make us or break us when it comes to viability in comparison to other classes. Our Condi spec could be either OP, or UP depending on trait allocations and changes. Our damage may be average or above average but the biggest thing I fear is our survivability. Already we’re easily counterable by heavy kiting and/or heavy sustains. We’ll just have to see what happens.
Think you forgot torch here man, number 5 could burn a ton of people also GS/secpter torch is a pretty op combo in zerker build.
Fixed
I don’t mind the removal of Glacial Heart as long as we gain back that 500 – 1k crit damage from Chill. The burst + slow was what made Glacial Heart.
The slow isn’t going to be that great without the Burst effect. That’s what people will missing / complain about.
We made it!! Burning will stack in intensity…
Will the damage stay the same or will burn duration and damage scale lower to reflect burn stacking?
Edited:
CONDITION DAMAGE reduction: bleed and torment: 38.8% ||| poison and burning: 60% ||| Confusion: 84.6%
Taken from one of the viewers in Twitch chat :O
(edited by Saiyan.1704)
- Burning dmg 33% increase and burn on block merged
- All meditation traits merged (any meditation build get the heal, reduced cd and fury and can pick other traits too)
- Indomitable Courage breaks stun on allies
- Superior Aria and Pure of Voice Merged
- Force of Will gives some % of healing power depending on your vitality
- Glacial Heart removed and replaced with 33% chance for Hammer to cause Slow on enemies with a 10 sec cooldown
- Someone on the stream managed to tell them the shield trait was lame and gave them an idea of shield granting aegis and they actually wrote it down
- Each time Scepter triggers virtue of justice passive effect it grants might
- Aaand all consecrations will be ground targeted so only the CD reduction trait is neededI don’t remember more
OH also, they showed during the stream that burning and poison will stack in numbers, then quickly tried to brush it off as a “maybe”
Yessss!!!
Ohmergosh i need to watch it <- just woke up :D

Apart from range advantages, scepter also has nice CC for your team to focus target.
But I personally prefer Sword because flashing blade syncs well with Hammer. Getting close and personal; as well as, on ledges is a necessity. Not to mention Sword’s #3 simply does higher burst damage compared to the Scepter. It auto targets so if some one like a thief likes jumping around, Sword #3 works wonders in a 300-500 radius.
Most Guards say Scepter is superior but in the end it’s what ever you’re most comfortable with.
I have no issues with solos vs 2+2+1.
3+2 is pushing it but I can live with that.
It has been a while since i’ve been in a solo vs premade matchup. So I applaud the devs for making matchmaking that much better.
I think there should be different queue times for a Premade team. If you’re in a premade, the queue times should reflect that of other premade’s wait line. Same for solo players, duos, etc.
A team without mesmers and rangers.
So Elites will change our Virtues completely, or simply add things like protection, regen, etc?
I’m a bit worried where they’re taking the Guardian class. Especially after the comment “Guardians are known for their burns” comment….
If I get an AOE Taunt skil that forces enemy players to walk my direction to attack me, running into ring of warding and/or taking damage from my symbols then sure, i’ll jump on that hype train.
Popularity doesn’t mean it’s OP.
Performance gains compared to other amulets is what determines imbalances.
Everyone does well with zerkers so technically it’s a balanced amulet.
Not everyone does well with Cele so that aspect isn’t balanced. But that’s not the Amulets fault. Classes clearly don’t use 100% of their stats efficiently… it’s a trait imbalance/stat/boon issue.
Guardian having low hp? Nice joke, while they have low “sheet” HP they have very high “effective” HP. With the built-in regen, blocks, invuln, blinds, cc etc. They are actually one of the most tanky classes when played right even going full Medi DPS in PvP and PvE.
From my experience, Guardian will survive longer than a Warrior with a comparable spec everytime.
And yet shoutbow warrior is meta and bunker guardian is not.
Food for thought.
Shoutbow Warrior meta for support.
Zerk Guardian meta for dps
My have the roles changed…
All of these get trashed by almost every profession…all is fine, ele is balanced and if you try to contest this on the forum…you’re deemed a noob, a med guardian will walk all over you if using one of those builds….
Ele vs his counter – Shatter Mes: Ele has to play very, very, well to win.
Guard vs his counter – Ele: No possible way to win. Ever.
That’s the difference between OP classes.
Ele and Engi are the most imbalanced classes in the game. That’s all thanks to their Celestial Amulet. The performance gain with this amulet/trait set up compared to their Zerker counter part is Very noticeable.
Yes, Eles do have trash builds until he goes Cele. That doesn’t make them ok and that definitely doesn’t make the class balanced.
A balance class is a class who can constantly interchange his traits/sigils/runes/amulet and still find it hard to decipher which build is best.

here’s my contribution to that problem:
- it stack’s in intensity in the following way: each stack adds a little bit to an AoE-radius, which deals the burn-DMG to surrounding Players. This won’t be that the condition just spreads, simply the ticks of the burn will affect surrounding players with equal amounts of DMG.
To be honest, I think it’s inevitable for Burns to have a stack mechanic. It’s the only way everyone could contribute evenly as a group.
I do like the condition effecting surrounding players bit. It could promote play in that if a player sees large stacks on himself, he’d want to distance hinself from other players. I’m curious what the scaling should be and how aoe burns would work team wide.
If 5 players had 9 stacks of burns it could be game breaking, However, If burns scaled like Torment but instead of walking and doing damage, it dealt damage when you were near somebody, that would work perfectly fine.
(edited by Saiyan.1704)
The only issue I have with it is the CD, but the same can be said with their Gear shield.
Other than Gear shield’s lack of visual, they’re both fine imo.
Bit late to the party, but I’d like to chime in and give my thoughts on potential burning change.
What if we keep the current burning cap, and instead of further applications of burning being ignored, their would be total damage is inflicted instantly. Thematically, applying more burning to something already fully engulfed in flame would accelerate the process, thus deal damage rapidly. This would give burning it’s own niche not just as a damage over time effect, but as a condition that, when applied generously, can burst.
The numbers on burning might need tweaking, or a reasonable ratio for immediate burning damage but it could work. In pvp for the reciever making sure the burning doesn’t stack high enough to reach that critical point couldmake for interesting plays. Mostly it would be tricky to balance it in large pve fights.
I really like that idea actually. Kinda like a “quickness” effects that gets stronger with every “stack” of burns. High burn procs could technically be a rapid – near instant – full damage effect so there may need to be some scaling involved.
Also guys please look at
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/pvp/Modifying-Burn-Condition/first#post4994638
I made a thread talking about modifying the Burn condition. I put a lot of yalls ideas there. Please support the thread by adding additional ideas or bumping it to get the point across!
“The current stack cap creates problems for condition players who want to work together.”
I don’t know if Anet plans on changing the burn mechanic in HoT. But I do know that Anet wanted the condition to have a more team-wide effect, similar to how Bleeds and Torment conditions are. Every person can add to these stacks, making the condition ever more deadly. Burning however, you can only add to its duration. In fact, Burn duration can be so long that other player’s Burn procs could never effect a player.
Rules:
Your condition proposal must make Burn condition unique in its own way, different to the Bleed and Torment mechanic.
Our ideas from the Guardian forums.
The above is gathered from the Guardian Forums.

There’s obviously more ideas but I chose these for now.
So will I be able to bleed and burn the trebuchet too?
Because replying with a quote from some one else means i’m supporting this notion.
And the clause reads.
“Can only start on said project in 1 month intervals. Only one project can be done, and completed, at any one time.”
Now, reorder what you want done from highest priority to lowest priority.
Go!
Things to do while waiting for 2m – 17m in pvp queue.
Edited and removed “sexually explicit comments”.
Turrets are indeed going to take condi damage… i’m going to assume you just got on the forums and didn’t read Grouch’s post.
Anet doesnt want Burn to act like Bleeds. So no, what you proposed wont happen. Please read:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/guardian/Burning-changes-on-the-horizon
The above link already talks about Burn condition ideas. You’re more than welcome to give your 2cents in the matter.
Delicious turret engis tears. I know its sad but you will actually have to l2p the game instead of letting the AI do the work for you. I can’t wait till they implement this
I play a Turreteer and I am actually pleased with these proposed changes. Why should engineer “pets” be excluded from the same things that other class “pets” can have happen to them? The only exception is that turrets do not move, but their effectiveness in sPvP is such that this doesn’t seem to be much of an issue.
I honestly haven’t heard any turreteers crying about this though. The build is almost completely about defensive strategy and placement, as opposed to an offensive assault build that encompasses the usual people who complain about turrets in the first place (for obvious reasons). That does not make it brain dead in any way.
Why should engineer “pets” be excluded from the same thing, other classes “pets” can have given to them by allies? Same story.
How can an inanimate metal object with no health pool use Regen or hold an Aegis shield?
At least we can theorize Poison as corrosive and Burns as as overheating issue. But it’s a fantasy video game so who really cares?
“So you’re claiming that engineers are supposed to be an inferior class. I wonder if you’re even aware of it.
Tell me, what should make up for the lack of a second weapon?"
@Manuhell, I’ve never proclaimed that Engineers are suppose to be inferior, nor have I ever said they needed a nerf.
Sounds like a rehtorical question but sure I’ll bite.
I would trade Any of my weapons just to have one of your kits. My kingdom for that Gear shield of yours.
“Lack of weapons” is a poor excuse to have tougher AI compared to everyone else. You lack weapons because you have them as kits. Everyone knows this…
(edited by Saiyan.1704)
It is possible, if you change your build around. I can confidently 1v1 a d/d cele ele on point until the end of time with neither of us coming out as the winner, although I would always be pressuring the living crap out of them. If you can avoid some of their key skills (rtl+updraft, burning speed, fire grab) then you’ll be fine for the most part.
I’ll vouch for this. I saw a ham guard do just that in a dueling arena. Though I think the Ele still came out on top, I was quite impressed with the results.
After the turret nerfs, condi guardian… guwhahaha… haha.. But seriously.
A 62600 burst zerk guardian can beat a turret engi 1v1. It’s not that they can’t be beaten.. it’s the fact that it takes years to do it. It isn’t exactly realistic to go against them in Conquest because it takes too long. Just like any other bunker spec, it’s best to walk around them and move on.
So turrets are now as weak as spirit weapons, minionmancers and spirit rangers.
Yet you all think that Turrets should last longer than other AI classes? Nope. You’ve just been weighed and measured. AI has always been a 1v1 duelist/bunk spec.
The nerf is fine.

They said they were going to extend this arena an extra month or two so they can gather up more data on the leaderboards.
The thing is… I really don’t want to complete 600 ranked games in order to be ranked up high on the leaderboards… that’s a bit excessive for me.
Don’t worry, this still isn’t the full leaderboard system. Apparently what ever system they’re holding will be give to us later… according to one of the devs.
Why they haven’t done so already is beyond me… These two leaderboards have been a failure thus far. It’s hard to imagine that HoT would give us a leaderboard better than what we have seen. The only thing that’s improved has been the matchmaking algorithm.
If they haven’t discovered the issues half way through this test season then we’re never going to get a working leaderboard. It’s the only thing keeping most pvp players engaged. Without it, all we have are Tournaments but not everyone partakes in that.
Edited
Unless it’s participation they’re truly experimenting with here. They’ve extended the test season for 2 or 3 months, which is an absurd amount of time. Perhaps they’re seeing if more people really do want to grind out the leaderboard. After all, majority rules GW2.

^ it’s not just getting 100% crit. It’s landing multiple crits in a small time frame so you’ll theoretically guarantee an instant proc chance.
On a Group of golems:
Symbol: 5x crits hits per second
Whirling Wrath 42x crit hits per second
At a 74% crit chance, lets just say 30 of my hits crit in a 2 second frame.
So that’s 30 crit hits with a 50% chance of Lightning procing. The majority of my procs happened instantly at 5s with a few rare ones happening at 6 or 7s. Not once did I receive a 3s instant proc, which would have been apparent in my testing.
Granted, with that many hits per second lightning doesn’t show up correctly on the battle log. Regardless, hearing the proc is usually right on queue unless that’s incorrect as well.
I know it’s not suppose to be a guarantee 3s instant proc but it has yet to do so given the above tests… idk if it’s bugged because it’s RNG…. i’m just saying five seconds is what I’ve been getting.

Warriors stances have a buff icon so you know whether or not to burst…
Asura Engineers are incredibly hard to see… the gear shield is just as small as them. Please give them a Gear icon so we can at least better counter, or manage, the powerful utility.
you and your ideas…
edit: don’t u know this place is for QQ, turrets OP, and l2p issues only?
They’re fixing turret engi’s. Soon we’ll have nothing to QQ abou- oh wait, it’s an MMO. Never mind :)
Just +1 my idea already ^.^
Because ideas are always welcomed, right?
These Bonus Gamemodes can be enabled only during the week or just the last weekend of the month to make things interesting.

There’s nothing wrong with using “Retreat”. Its short cd, swiftness and aoe block isn’t bad. The one thing a shout guardian absolutely needs is “Stand Your Ground” and he’s using it. I would recommend “Save Yourselves” but his team isn’t hurting for more Conditions…. unless of course he faces a heavy condi team.
As to OP’s question, if you’re medi Guard the difficulty between power and condi Necros is about the same. That said, a good Necro’s would have interrupt that 3s Healing Signet of yours. Then he would have CC’d you till kingdom-come once he knew your elite was a Tomb. He wasn’t exactly the greatest power (idk what build he was trying to run) necro in the world.
We’ve used to get CC’d so hard that we’d hardly get off #5 in Tomb. Until they gave us the stability trait, it wasn’t the most effective Elite. If you were to face any class that knew how to CC, you wouldn’t have gotten that heal off so easily. Unless you saved your stability or actually peeled away, healing yourself, you may still be able to use Tomb of Courage effectively. Against low tier players, it doesn’t matter because anything works.

They still spend too much time on features and mechanics that most players I know don’t vive a **** about.
I think they should listen to one of the last wooden potatoes videos, where this feature is one of the top 10 things he’s waiting for feature pack 3, which probably is BEFORE the expansion. Besides, this is one of the top wanted things even when the game was still in devellopment.
There were several items that we as a community wanted. This was was definitely among the top 10.
The thing is, anything involving the UI is a big cost development. It’s simply not in their budget to complete 10 items at one time. They have a “when ever we get to it” motto at Anet which, to me, is perfectly fine.
The thing is; and ironically enough, they changed the entire pvp queue layout to the point where it’s now impossible to queue outside of the Mists. I don’t understand why they would spend that much production time on something that’s not a 100% satisfaction to us pvp players. I rather these resources were spent on something like build templates, custom arena tools, pvp leaderboards, etc. Instead they limited us because they wanted eye-candy in the game.
A lot of players were annoyed about their queues being secluded in Heart of the Mists. It’s now another feature we want added to our wish list, of which, we’ll probably never get because the new UI now conflicts with such changes.

Sorry, I tend to be one of those long-winded forums posters, but as a final word: Yes, try the burning guard. I did spvp with a burning guard hybrid (6/0/6/1/1) the other day, and I had two essentially 1v1 situations with eles. One was with a fresh air, the other was with a D/D ele who was okay (at best) in pvp. I beat both of them. The constant burning ticks really made a huge difference, and they didn’t get cleansed often if at all because it was just a single condition. The eles both probably thought I was a typicall med zerk lol. Hybrid or condi guards might have better luck against eles than a typical med zerk.
Pretty much what you’ve said. Burn Guardians should have a better chance at beating Elementalists but we very much get hard countered by them….
I think Dagger/Focus Ele gives us the biggest issues, for Guardians in general. They’re uncommon in PvP but they’re twice as tough as your average D/D meta, able to render your scepter useless for 6s, as well as Magnetic Wave – Cures three conditions and reflects projectiles for 3s.
I never had a more frustrating fight… It’s not fun knowing you simply cannot win =/
Imo, a good way to balance merciful intervention would be to allow the guard to teleport to the target location regardless of whether or not there are people there. As we are right now, imagine the following scenario: You’re in a fight, you just got CCed, and you know a huge coordinated burst by the engi, ele, and a power necro, or LB ranger, or med guard is coming up. How do you avoid this? You can use a stun break, and use shelter, stun break and use renewed focus, stun break and dodge. Yes, all of those work, yet they all involve the guardian forcing your best skills into cd. But imagine if you could essentially blink out of the situation. People would actually have to work for that burst, rather than taking for granted that they can just burst down a med guard because med guards don’t have stab. I don’t think such a change would be over powered, because you still wouldn’t have any condi clear or stun break on this skill, but it would become a lot more fun, and people would actually start to use it.
This would actually break the guardian on a few levels. kyhlo map just got specialized for the Guardian, as if it wasn’t already. They wanted the Guardian to be a spear head class. First one in last one out. We’ll practically be a Heavy version of Elementalists, able to teleport 1200 yrds away, becoming untouchable.
I changed my previous statement to Target Enemy instead of Target Anyone for Merciful Intervention trait. Then I thought of what Hot was already bringing… a Taunt Condition would fit Merciful Intervention quite nicely. Especially if it was an AoE effect of around 240 radius.
I wouldn’t mind using Merciful Intervention if that was the case.
After trying unsuccessfully to enjoy this skill in its current incarnation, I’ve finally decided on what I think would be both the most useful version of this skill as well as the most fun version of this skill. So, we all know and love Judge’s Intervention because it’s fun, a stunbreak, a Teleport, and it is great for burst combined with a number of other skills. How about this for Merciful Intervention:
Merciful Intervention (45s Cooldown)
Teleport to target ally, healing nearby allies and curing conditions on them.
Healing: 1960 (0.8)
Conditions Removed: 2
Number of Targets: 5
Range: 1200
Radius: 240Note the changes from the current version:
- Radius to match Judge’s Intervention
- Cooldown to match Judge’s Intervention because its current cooldown is prohibitive given that it’s not even a stunbreak
- Removes 2 conditions now to give it added oomph and reason to bring it over other meditations
- Teleports identically to Judge’s Intervention, which is to say it goes to target ally if within 1200 range, teleports in the direction of target ally if it’s outside 1200 range, and doesn’t teleport at all with no ally targeted.
Basically, I think this would be a lot more fun, and would be strong enough to actually merit using over something like Contemplation of Purity or Smite Condition in certain situations. I also think removing two conditions exactly is important so it’s not as good as Purging Flames or traited Virtue of Resolve, which matters since it’s also a Teleport and heals.
The change is nice but then other utility skills would be obsolete. Some one would make a thread wanting to buff Smite Condition or lower the cd of Contemplation. Overall the change would inbalance us, imo.
What I’d like would is a trait that completely changes the skill. Like a, “Merciful Intervention can now teleport to enemy players.”
It still acts as a Meditation skill; however, Guardians finally get the “mobility” that we’ve longed for. It’s balanced because we not only have to replace either Smite or Contemplate, but also a Master or Grand Master trait as well.
(edited by Saiyan.1704)
If you think turrets are broken, then play it. Make more people rage about it and post on the forums. The more people realize how cancer it is, the better. All those people who think turrets are easy to beat, they haven’t met an organized turrets engi team. They think that TS and rotation gonna beat it. That’s not gonna work if the turrets engi also have TS and good rotation.
Play it, make more people cry, and one day ANet gonna fix it. Maybe one day…
I really think the players complaining bring more negativity and cancer than any build in game. We all have an equal opportunity to play any profession and build in game. If you chose to play an inefficient build and/or choose to remain ignorant of said builds, that is user error. Of which, the developers and the GW2 community should not be held responsible for.
OP, you were more than likely beaten by a superior team of players.
I laugh at any turret engi who says “I’m a good player.” These are beginner braindead builds that everyone’s “good” at.
I’m not saying these are terrible builds… I don’t even think they should be removed from game but that’s just my personal opinion.
just want these people to admit they’re using a braindead build that requires no skill to use.

Cele Ele is being pushed out of the meta by medi guards
How do we push them out of the meta when Cele Ele are the ones who counter medi guards?

“We like templates, we want templates. We’re going to keep going on listening to feedback from there. In the future we might see if we can get them.”
The reason why ele’s generally counter guardians is because of their mobility along with their resilient regen upkeep. We can knock them down to 20% health but once our cd’s become exhausted they’ll simply float away, heal back up and there’s nothing can do about it. Any ele (class) who knows how to kite will counter a guardian. It’s one of the reasons why i’ve been frustrated with the class as of late. I’m hope our “specialization” changes things…
Many custom arenas are being overrun by trolls. Currently ban lists have very limited space… servers have already reached their allotted threshold and cannot add anyone to their ban list.
For those who don’t know, there are several specific troll guilds out there that get a kick out of randomly attacking people. It can be deterring for new players who simply want to theory craft and test their builds on a dueling server. Servers who can’t defend themselves can’t do much about it until the wave of trolls had their fun.
you get healed for all instances of aegis you apply afaik.
You do not get healed for all instances of aegis you apply. UNLESS you have Altruistic healing traited, of which takes up that grand master slot.
Pure of Heart heals the user who recieved an Aegis from a Guardian. The Guardian does not recieve healing for giving out such an aegis. Otherwise the Guardian would get a 3500 healing burst if he gave 5 people Aegis, which simply isn’t the case.
Hello and Welcome!!!
I’m the best looking Guardian NA so if you need fasion advice i’m your guy!
yea you keep doing that if i ever die to a roamer guardian you will be the first to know
Your ignorance amazes me. You’ve just bought the game and you think you know more than we do?
What I will say is that Hybrid/Condi Guardians make great roamer builds. It’s the best roaming 1v1 build in WvW hands down. Especially against classes like Thieves, Ele’s, and Warriors who seem to have the ability to peel for days.
bias is bias
Very :D
in coordinated large groups it can be quite strong.
Combine this with pure of heart it can be nearly as good as Altruistic healing but is more like bursty healing than over time continuous healing.
Pure of Heart only effects the user who has the aegis. If you put aegis on 20 people with Communal Defenses, they get the heals, not you.
You don’t get anything from Communal Defenses other than offering a mass Aegis in your 360 radius vicinity. So it’s not better than AH.
I just want to add that on top the healing aegis they will also receive retaliation on block as well as burn on block if traited.
The question is, is an extra team wide aegis worth sacrificing Monk’s Focus or Altuistic Healing?
It doesn’t effect you, it can proc at any moment with or without an ally nearby and it also procs other guardian’s Communial Defense’s as well. It’s just another gimmick trait.
Since I fluctuate between 60 to 200 ping thanks to my awesome wireless internet, I thought these lag spikes of mine was just me. However, I have 10x less issues with my other pc games including my portable handheld devices. For the past month the game has been very frustrating. Sometimes I can’t even duel.
I completely drop when I try to engage in certain wvw fight…. I know for a fact that’s not due to my connection. I’ve been in huge zerg fests in >other mmo< with little to no problems. There’s something not right with their data relocating servers or something… (not a network wiz).
I’m not the only one with latency issues. People who consistently play under 60ms are getting spikes up to 100 or 200 ms. I often play under this latency so it’s no big deal but my spikes are MUCH higher.. making the game nearly unplayable.
I’m willing to bet Anet requires a more stable connection to play compared to other video games… this is by far the worse latency I’ve ever had compared to my other PC games.
I also want to add that these links in the email (i’ve gotten at least 4 emails!) looks very similar to the Guild Wars 2 site but is completely fake. You can tell by the little lock next to the web address at the top left corner (chrome). If you click on the lock > connections: you can see its verification. If the lock shows it’s open instead of closed, it hasn’t been verified and your information is likely open.
Even then, don’t ever type out these links they send you. They’re completely falsified!
