Rank: Top 250 since Season 2

I see a lot of shout support guardians not using retreat at all other than for aegis shattering effects.
Pretty much every utility skill, rune, even the staff and/or speed sigils (which i use) will be obsolete.
Anet isn’t going to nerf build diversity any more than they have to.
What I do see is what the above comments mentioned. An Elite sigil that’s caters for people who want 25% speed increase. The sacrifices would be apparent but people would still use it because, speed.
Active- Use Wings Of Resolve in a targeted area.
Passive- Increase speed by 25%
Now, convince John to fit it in Tomb of Courage > Sigil of Courage (I think he’s changing it)

Great video I really enjoyed it.
Yay!!!
There’s a few key components from each class I like to stand out.
First off, the overall Guardian Gains.
Guardian gained
There were several reasons as to why hybrid guardian never even made it to metabattle as a recommended build. Lack of conditon applications through traits, skills, etc. Condition coverage from other damaging conditions like bleeds, torment, etc. And the ability to get countered by your own team due the inability to stack burns. Our burns literally had to wait in line to deal damage.
We gained a trio deal! A huge buff to our condition viability. Along with higher crit in Radiance, Carrion guardians could very well be a thing.
It’s happening before our eyes!
Mesmer Gains
All I really saw was Mesmers gained a bigger support role through wells and skills. Mesmers reeaally needed it and i’m glad they went that route. They topped it off with a skill repeat function that can offer either higher burst or higher support, depending on how its used.
Mesmer’s Continuum Split
Mesmers will be more predictable in their bursts. I don’t see it a thing in 1v1 because we will almost always know when they set up for a CS combo. Even if they stealth! A duelist just knows. However, it will be a hassle trying to track this in tpvp amongst everything else thats going on. This alone could make them very dangerous in tpvp.
Winning against a mesmer has always been determined on whether or not you negated their shattering bursts attacks. These were often predictable as it was always done after they stealth or kocked you back with gs. CS will make mesmer burst more predictable.
It’s almost always a sure lost against a phanta build because kiting is our achilles heel. We would never get in range to apply enough pressure. With a bow, we could offer enough damage to where that doesn’t matter anymore. But the bow alone wont save us, as we’ll still need to sync it will hammer, gs, or even scepter to make it work.
Phantas are not very viable in tpvp but that’s besides the point :)
TL;DL
We’ll have the upper hand in the 1v1 aspect of things but in tpvp, it could be neck to neck. We’ll be locking down targets with bow and hammer; however, we’ll be as predictable as warriors. While mesmers offer support with shield, wells and at the same time be a potential burst surprise within itself
(edited by Saiyan.1704)
Warriors will complain that Guardians get around better.
Rangers will complain that Guardians do it better.
Ele’s and Engi’s will complain that they can’t counter kite us anymore.
As much as I want every one of our weaknesses taken cared of, we need to be inferior one way or another. A lot of traits, skills and utilities will be worthless if we had a speed buff trait.
we don’t really have traits that buff ranged damage, we don’t have any that buff traps, mostly symbols, consecrations, and shouts.
You kidding? Sitting at 90% damage modifier in HoT tree skills, we’re 1 trait away from self implosion. We will literally cause a black hole.
As much as I want the specilization tree to show more trap or bow emphasis, that isn’t really the point of the spec. The bow, nor the traps, were meant to be stand alone additives. They’re suppose to be supplimary; the bow itself shouldn’t do more famage than a ranger. It’s suppose to do exactly what it has shown to do, currently. Same goes for traps.
…we will suck, everyone will be better…
-snip-
You forget about the extra cc we’re getting, as well as peels, range abilities, even our aoe damage. The buffed 1.5k shattered aegis will simply annihilate Rolexticker’s clones. They will pray perma slow will be enough for a spearhead-turned-range guardian.
From your past guardian comments, it’s obvious you don’t have much faith in your brotheren
(edited by Saiyan.1704)
I don’t know how many players my opinion applies to, but leaderboards carry zero incentive for me. Even if they changed how you get points and fix it so it isn’t a total grindfest, the rewards still do not make me want to play ranked any more or any less. I really couldn’t give a kitten if I got a mini llama or a piece of armor.
The bold highlight is the reason most people scorn the current leaderboards. There’s no incentive for anyone to pvp other than the fact that it’s fun, given matchmaking.
The second biggest thing is matchmaking. Hopefully it continues to improve.
We can always complain that the rewards could be better (they definitely could) but that aspect is always going to be there.
There’s a way to have a grindy leaderboard while also cater to people who only play 2 or 3 games per day. It’s called math. I’m not the best at it but i’ve seen the leaderboard’s point algorithm and know it can be done. It may be difficult for one person to do it, especially if that person received orders from some one else who wants it done a specific way. And when that specific way fails, the boss is going to say scrap it and start from an old mmr itteration. One that “worked” but had issues.
I hope that’s not the situation because that’s a sandbox way of doing things. I want Anet to continue to reitterate and evolve rather than settle with a system that we all know had major flaws.
I’m a new pvper, and really terrible. I lose all the time, and I haven’t a clue why I’m losing.
First of all, it isn’t matchmaking it’s you. You can’t expect Anet to pick the worse players in the game to make your pvp experience better. In my experience, it has actually improved in the last 2 months.
Secondly, they’ve never said their goal was to be esports on a competitive level. They already stated what they’ve wanted for the game from day 1. It definitely wasn’t esports. In fact, pvp wasn’t mentioned at all.
There’s a million revisions they could do to improve the pvp experience and little has to do with classes or matchmaking. I could go into detail but that’ll be tl;dr.
(edited by Saiyan.1704)
It would be pulling this idea out of nowhere, or twisting the concept of the Guardian into something that it is not. Because if the idea of a purifyer that wants to eliminate bad guys etc could work, there is no reason to come up with the idea of a hunter considering what the Guardian already is.
“The Pact is the greatest alliance Tyria has ever seen. Its primary advantage is the flexibility offered by a union of orders with vastly differing methodologies as well as magical and technological knowledge and aptitude of each of the races allies with them”
The Pact failed.
The Guardians obviously learned something from other races. The awesome thing about Guild Wars is that the lore is constantly evolving that will no doubt be explained in HoT.
Seeker sounds like it could fit the Lore Anet was creating for the Dragonhunter. A role that fits Guardians more than any other class. The Pact failed so Guardians seek justice, vengeance, reprisal. He does so now in a more aggresive notion.
Inspite people not liking the name, Dragonhunter is within the premise of the Guardian class so Anet isn’t breaking any rules, even if you think that they are.
(edited by Saiyan.1704)
Because they dont want to split up the player base too much..
I don’t think this is true.
Anet said that there are more players in WvW on a peek weekend than there were players who played GW1. If that’s true then one would think that there are, in general, more players playing structured PvP than there ever were in GW1.
The facts
GW1 had 6x more gamemodes than GW2.
GW2 has a huge surplus of players in the Stronghold queue yet queue times were worse due to a bigger pool.
The two explanations for Stronghold queue times is either the algorithm took longer than expected to analize the huge pool of players, or they simply lacked servers for people waiting in queues.
If it’s the latter, then it’s not because Anet doesn’t want additional gamemodes due to it’ll divide queue times. They’re not going to doing it because it’s an executive, financial strategy. Same as why they’ve been limiting server loads for wvw and pvp as well as not catering to certain, much needed, pvp aspects. They’re not going to increase something that’ll cost more money in the long run and they’re not going to spend large amounts of resources on a high risk project like Arenas or GvG.
…aliens
It’s the only solution for a glassy condi build.
We cannot currently use Permeating Wrath because doing so will sacrifice large amounts of sustains and that’s very much needed if you’re going to be in constant melee combat.
If Permeating Wrath is changed, we’ll feel more comfortable with sacrificing traits now that we have a reasonable range weapon for it.
Pros
Cons
Like any condi build, you’re highly susceptible to cleanses. There’s still a chance that you could do little to no damage.
The spec may not be viable at all given the meta but it’ll still be very fun :P
Is Anet gonna dish out a poll of alternative names the community can vote for? are they gonna change the name partially? completely?
I’d much prefer if an Anet dev responded to what action they will take, so we can be pro-active about it and continue on.
With utmost Sincerity, Tzozef.
(please don’t merge this thread)
I respect how John took it upon himself to reach out to the community in regards to the Tomb changes. But I understand that Anet can’t blatantly ask for our opinions on every aspect of the game, only the crucial, “i really have no clue what they’d like best” type inquiries.
If it takes Anet additional resource where production is halted just to change a class name then I rather just leave it where it is. imo, don’t flame me!
I would love for them to make a sticky thread and allow us to vote on our name for the next couple of weeks. Given the time sensitive nature and the fact that they intend HoT to be released this fall, I doubt they would sacrifice production costs to change a name that most people won’t care about in 2016.
Hopefully that’s not the case and the name can indeed be altered very easily.
The biggest issue with Rampage is the perma Stability.
How in the name of Melandru’s first born do be counter it when they’re channeling the Soul’s Hero buff in Stronghold? So. Frustrating.
(edited by Saiyan.1704)
One of yall had a point that Spirit weapons could get an upgrade on their skill factor. Hammer could have a target effect so we could point where we want it to hammer. Same for Sword. I see this especially useful for a number of reasons.
soooo… noone is worried about:
http://dulfy.net/2015/05/02/gw2-specialization-calculator-that_shaman/#profession=guardian&traits=“Zeal”,2,4,9-“Valor”,2,5,8-“Dragon Hunter”,2,6,9
A meditation build with a +90% modifier to power damage?
10% from Zealots Aggression, Pure of sight, Fiery wrath, 15% from Big Game Hunter, 20% from Symbolic Avenger and 25% from vulnerability stacks? Is it just me? Yes? No? Maybe? Anyone?
I thought about that too but all that requires retaliation, burns, aegis, as well as a stationary target in your symbols. Quite simply, a guardian wont be able to sustain a solid 90% modifier upkeep.
Now stohp it you’re going to get us nerfed before release :c
Sure, they have fancy visual effects and can deal decent damage, but people seem to be forgetting that half the reason why meditations are meta currently is because of the sustain they provide. Once the novelty factor wears off, people will realize that trap builds will have no sustain or condi removal and will just go back to what they were doing before.
Traps, in their current iteration, are just an awful skillset in general and should be reworked to promote more active play.
Meditations isn’t the be-all and end-all of Guardian builds. Definitely not.
Stronghold has shown a need for Zerker type classes who outputs lots of damage to clear mobs and guards quickly. Traps could be a welcomed burst potential for the game mode. They did say that people won’t be able to see the traps we lay so I see it being a strong underrated maneuvering tactic. We should give Trap Guards more credit for what they could accomplish in Stronghold.
Lets not forget that Trap CD starts the moment you lay them, as see from the video. I imagine there’d be kitten icd some where so the same trap doesn’t duplicate. Still worth noting.
Have Guards place these on the Hero channeling buff
2x Processing of Blade
2x Light’s Judgement
Profit
I don’t think this is a high concept at all. It’s pretty simple, and not very clever or original as a name. It also sounds silly, when every player in Tyria is hunting dragons.
Literally everyone is killing demons in D3. Why is Demon Hunter not more scorned upon than DH?
They can technically bring out what ever lore than wanted for the Guardian to make Dragonhunters make sense.
The expansion makes it much more stronger by merging traits together.
The expansion makes Everything stronger by merging traits together.
You keep saying it is good against condition classes when every medi build with Absolute Resolution, Smite and CoP counters most condition builds. Conditions never really been an issue in TPvP for Medi guards, partly due to them being manly 1v1 variants. They don’t work so well in 3v3/4v4/5v5 skirmish scenarios. Sustain Cele classes such as Engi, Ele and War have always been our biggest bane in comparison.
Also you say it isn’t a 1v1 build when two 1-hander weapons and Bane Signets are the definition of 1v1. Sure your single target CC’s can sync well with your team’s burst but I wouldn’t count on you to pull it off reliably. Without sustains from Medi, that glass build is just a beacon to be focus targeted.
I absolutely agree with you that the DH Guardian will be OP in HoT. But it’s not going to be because of these signets. It’s going to be some form of Condi or Zerk Hambow lockdown build variant.
As much as I want Signets to work in the current meta, they’re not going to be a thing anytime soon.

Within the last 2 months I feel matchmaking has gotten better. Especially in terms of class stacking, whether that be 3 guards vs 3 thieves or some other combination.
The biggest problem with matchmaking is that it takes 500 games to make up a player’s skill factor. Even Anet has said that there really isn’t a huge difference between the #1 ranked player and #999 ranked player. The difference, skill coeficient wise, is minutely small. It needs a lot of games to build.
Then there’s team synchronizations, different strategy mentalities that may or may not sync up well.
I’ve played other Moba games and I will say that gw2 matchmaking is either on par, or better, than theirs. Not to mention the 2-5m queue times are also very similiar in spite this game’s lower pvp population.
Please please please no. that game arenas were so incredibly unbalanced it was a joke.
I wouldn’t compare a more superior pvp game to the terrible, unbalanced functionalities of another. That’s a good way to limit yourself. GW2 is vastly more efficient, structure wise, than that game. That goes for pve and pvp alike. That game literrally has a 47 page thread that talks about improving the game lol. It’s still going on.
My point is, GW2 has everything to gain from 2v2/3v3 arenas as these modes have always been successful in many MMO’s. And that’s because those MMO’s were deemed as “unbalanced”. GW2 is in a different league.
If people had to pay an arena token to participate in a 2v2/3v3 ladder season, we’d pay it. I’m just saying Anet.
It doesn’t make sense that the chain tether will magically break if a person stealths. If that was the case then a thief would Never get tethered. I imagine. It’s only breakable if you get out of range.
People forget how much added diversity can do for a game. Stronghold isn’t just going to succeed because it’s a “better” game mode. It’s going to succeed because its a New game mode. People have left the PvP scene in GW2 because they’ve been playing the same game mode for 3 years.
2v2/3v3 Arenas is an inevitable evolution to GW2’s PvP. It’s going to happen sooner or later.

I understand this is a lot more high concept than Mesmer but at the end of the day we felt like we wanted to try and push a more mature theme here. I hope this helps explain our thinking.
Dragonhunter.. doesn’t feel in any way “mature”. It’s what a five year old would say if you asked him what he wants to be when he’s all grown up. Only by that time he’s an accountant.
And yet plenty of the adults in the room like it.
Might want to find a better lever than “nya nya I think you’re immature!” if you want to move this rock. Calling Devs something akin to five-year olds doesn’t work real well in my experience.
Are the Devs not insinuating that everyone who dislikes the name is immature and unable to grasp the high concept name “Dragonhunter”?
The name is nondescriptive, and so it has failed as a name at all. It is also unimaginative. It also fails to fit in at all with anything guardian related, despite this poor attempt by the devs to convince us that “no guys, it really is relevant!”.This is akin to a comedian not receiving any laughs and then blaming the audiences’ poor grasp of humour. Perhaps the comedian is just kitten?
I appreciate John posting his reasons as to why he chose the name. Lets not discourage him from making another post because some one mistook it as him “making fun of us”. All the same, i’m sure the Devs appreciates subjective criticism.
My subjective criticism
I respect the Dev’s enough to accept what ever it is they like to call their product. So I suppose the name Dragonhunter doesn’t bother me as much as most. Especially since it’s going to be abbreviated as DH anyways. But that’s besides the point.
Dragon hunter is not this game’s version of Witch-hunter and here’s why:
Witch-hunters are subtle, sly and solo hunters that seek to ferret out witches hidden among seemingly innocent populations. Witches look human and act human and are generally unlimited in number. Witch-hunters are also often portrayed as religious zealouts, acting to protect an ideology and not civilians.
Dragonhunters will never have a way to fit this trope within the Guild Wars setting. For starters, being a solo hunter is directly opposite of the backline support play style this new class has. As for he world itself, dragons are limited in number and there is no real need to “discover them.” Their minions are obvious and not mingling around as civilians. (They’re large remember? That’s why dragon hunters are "big prey hunters lol.) Finally, there’s no religious zealotry.
PS: Here is what a big game hunter is: https://www.flickr.com/photos/billthepony/2884372000/
Is that what we want Dragonhunter to be?
Big Game Hunter is exactly what they are portraying Dragonhunter as being. Just not as comical as the picture you posted. At this point, the name is being blown way out of proportion.
Do you have another name that better fits the Big Game Hunter rendition?
They’re trying to portray both a big game hunter AND a witch hunter in one go and it’s just not working. Witch hunter makes me think of Van Hellsing. Big Game Hunter makes me think of the villain from Disney’s Tarzan.
I think they need to scrap the entire “hunter” idea and go with something refined. I was behind arbiter but other names have popped up that fit the ticket. Arclight/Archlight was a very strong contender that references the new found range. Other great names were Harbinger and Sentinel and Warder and Bastion and Stalwart and Valkyr and Seeker.
Actually, I quite like Harbinger.
“I’m a Harbinger”
“I’m a Dragonhunter”Yea, Harbinger sounds better and a lot less argumentative.
If these guards are going to be heavy hitting openers, Harbinger is the perfect name. It also overlaps some of what Anet wanted “hunter” to mean, such as seeking out or heading in advance to lay traps.
Sí estoy de acuerdo señor.
I had to speak in an exotic language to show how much I agree.
at the video demonstration the trap did 15 bleed stacks . so with long 45 sec cd and the ability to dodge away from it i guess 5 bleed stacks in average
the 25 vulnerability is nice group buff for a fast burst
It’ll be easy to sync it up with any CC effects you or your team brings. Not to mention our VoJ/SoJ can also have a 3s immobilize effect as well, if traited. With an overall increase of CC through taunts or others, it may not be a problem.
The biggest issue we’ll face will be cleanses. Warrior, Ele, Revenant, Absolute Resolution Guards, may simply destroy Condition classes and remove them from meta.

Reactive skills are horrible in design. You should not have to take hits in order to activate an offensive skill. If Radiant Fire was a defensive trait then that’d be fine to have it when you take damage/critically hit.
I just hope that they’re still playing around with this trait and revert it before go live.
Unless they found it to be too powerful.
If it was reverted back to on crit hits, it would obviously pop at every cd. Not that that’s a bad thing.. because it isn’t.. but I see a few people raging when they see Zealot’s Flame’s damage dealt was 3 (crit) hits dealing 10k+ damage total that’s from the trait alone.
I don’t blame them for changing it but I wish they didn’t :P
‘The Librarian’

I like the concept of the Tomes, too. But I think these proposed changes are better than the current Tome implementation.
I second the notion.
For those who say Quickness could backfire on us, well, there has to be a form of counter play right? Quickness stomps is one of the most OP features in Structured PvP. I see people choosing this elite for that very reason. I think it’s a change that’s very much needed.
Wait… what? how are the traps useless for condi guards? you get two multi hit traps that apply bleed with each hit, not even counting the fact that the whirl does good physical and the beam is just… insane with 25 vuln stacks. I think a radiance/DH/Valor build will still have good sustain and just be insane with condition burst between burning, bleeds, poison, and just the raw physical damage you will be able to put out between vuln application and the fact that we get an insane amount of crit on burning targets now due to radiance.
Yup we just need a sigil of doom and we are good to go on the condi/power hybrid build build if we get someone with the 2 multi hit traps thats 20 bleeds + 4 burn procs + 25 vulnerability, 1 MB after that can kill any zerker build.
Not to mention our traps can have a 100% hit rate if used with Judge’s Intervention. Something that Ranger’s only dreamed of. Switch to GS/Hammer and you have yourselves a nasty burst combo.
really really
i used carrion amulet and its nice
so what they really did is to buff the burning application to get 4k dps
the bleeding doesnt really makes us condi class as we have the same problem no other condi coverbut i like the fact i can do 4k burning dmg
traps will be useless for condi guard meditation build
You’ll either be full trap guard or full medi guard. I don’t see a lot of people mixing traps and medi unless they use 1 trap utility with 2 medi utilities for what ever reason.
Technically you can mix and match both and make them work.
(edited by Saiyan.1704)
I applaud the op for having the decency to change the title.
+1
To be honest, almost every class can beat the guardian 1v1. It’s a matter of out sustaining him. Whether that be from kiting or having high sustains like any of the cele trio classes =/
Thief
Thieves are debatably one of the best 1v1 classes around. As long as you dodge guardian’s ww and overall burst then you’ll be fine. Don’t EVER facetank a guardian as if you’re a warrior, especially if you’re in his symbols or his ww is up.
-Kite his Greatsword until ww and binding blade is used. Pop his aegis (if any) with ur bow or dagger. Your engagements usually last 3 seconds. Then you blink away and mock him from a distance. Use stealth abilities when appropriate. You’re allowed to burst longer than 3 seconds when his shelter and elite has been used.
Mesmers
Mesmers are usually a hit or miss. You either hit him with your burst shatter skills or the guardian Elites, Blocks or dodges them through sheer luck. Just play as defensive as you can while also minding which weapon set he’s in. Again, kiting him and pulling off your bursts is key.
(edited by Saiyan.1704)
Moreover MANY of you have always wrote that ranger is strong and without problems or limits.
Now dragonhunter reminds a ranger in its mechanics…..SOOO Why do you complain then ?You in the correct forum?
Rangers are like the easiest to kill with Guardian, including the trapper rangers and Pewpewrangers are one of the classes you can staff spam to death
Rangers (next to mesmers) dominate the 1v1 PvP arenas, just not tpvp. So when a guardian complain about rangers, it’s probably in that aspect. There are certain 1v1 ranger builds that are darn near impossible to beat.
b.o.t: Yes DH is awesome. Hater’s gonna hate.
Guardians before announcement:
“Where is my condi, where is my long range weapon”
Guardians after the announcement:
“Wah, condi, wah ranged weapon”You’re putting words in a lot of other players mouths.
Nope. It’s what the community wanted since 2012.

Not counting countless more nudges in PvP General and PvE forums saying we lacked range weapons. The same goes for lack of Conditions, CC, and Peels. We’re actually getting exactly what we asked for with the exception of Traps. Even then, some people wanted snares too in one of the above links.
Goes to show voice really matters and Anet truly did come through with a lot of the things we’ve wanted.
I myself am estatic with the change, as are a lot of Guardians.
Cheer up? Really? I’d rather dual wield shields before using a frickin’ longbow.
And you still won’t be able to block with them.
I’ve never used Trav runes myself because Hybrid guards don’t have to glue themselves to a target like Medi raw damage builds. I imagine, thanks to the extra peels and cc, that Trav runes wouldn’t be used in structured PvP as much. People will still use it for WvW, though. I personally swap to a weapon with speed sigils and build stacks of switfness from npc’s :)
The popular runes are
It’s hard to say which rune i’ll personally use. I do like the thought of burn stacking with Fire Shields but that requires people to hit you XD.

Haha. Was thinking about making a topic like this because of the other topic.
People have been asking for 2v2/3v3 Annihilation for a long time now. There is also a community that does 15v15/20v20 Annihilation and wants official support. It makes sense to me that TDM should be switched to Annihilation.
That other thread got a lot of support via guilds wanting guild stuffs. They’re forgetting that there has been 10x more 1v1 and 2v2 tournaments than GvG ones.
GvG mode that currently has nothing in place. Annihilation TDM already has the map. It just need certain map restart functions to make it work and it’s good to go.

Guardians Got
Everything the community asked for has been granted. I’m so excited I could pee!
Looks like my hunch about us using traps were right :P
“Favor in battle can often be determined by foresight and preparation, and dragonhunters will be able to manifest light-based magical traps that will activate when an enemy runs over them. These big-game traps will have a variety of effects, but none will be pleasant for an enemy unfortunate enough to be caught within them. Approach carefully, enemies of Tyria…or fall prey to the guardian and their elite Dragon’s Maw.
Since you’re probably already asking, yes, the Dragonhunter’s healing ability is also a trap. Guardians will preemptively imbue light into the ground for a smaller heal. When enemies trigger the trap, the guardian will pull the light from the ground, striking and blinding enemies [and bleeding enemies] while healing for a large amount.
Guardians will find that the new elite specialization gives them access to some conditions and functionality normally reserved for professions of a more physical nature. They’ll gain a bit of innate mobility, while the ability to cripple or bleed enemies will become an option through their elite specialization traits. One of their elite specialization traits is Rending Light, which will enable all varieties of traps to bleed enemies. Whether taking on the masses or a single enemy, the dragonhunter is a predator to be feared.
Spear of Justice:* Virtue of Justice is now a thrown spear that pierces through all unworthy foes, tethering them as long as they remain in range. You’ll send out searing pulses to each enemy tethered, continuously burning them and ensuring an unpleasant experience for those affected.
The active of the now SoJ will be a single firing spear that pulses burns on all targets hit. I’m curious about the pulse and burn duration. The burst potential could be devastating if done right.
Hybrid Condi Builds got a whole lot more interesting now that we have Traps that Bleeds. This substantially buffs Kindled Zeal.
Where Amplified Wrath is a no brainer, that leaves us with 1 tree to spec in. If we’re always in a 900 – 1200 range with Scepter/Staff in the off hand, we may not need the extra sustains from Valor or Honor lines.
Assuming Permeating Wrath changes to on-target effect and our Virtue Passives remain the same, Bow/Staff or Bow/Scepter DH will be the new Hybrid Meta for Guardians.

It reminds me of a trap ranger.
I have a ranger. I play him when I want to play ranger.
A guardian should not be a ranger.
Ranger’s specializations are probably going to be support, similiar to guardians (5 shouts?)
They’ll be saying “I already have a Guardian”
This is what the trait specialization is all about people. They specialize in what they aren’t good in.
@OP
Dragon Hunter and Traps work because
I imagine we’ll get a damage modifier for Dragons for those pve players
(ew… pve playres….
Guess I was right about us getting traps lol…
I can dig it.
@op they wanted us to be a hunter class, hence the name Dragon Hunter.
Mesmer’s got Wells – Chronomancers
Guardian’s got Traps – Dragon Hunters
It make’s sense… even if it doesn’t
I don’t regard the burning changes being proposed as anything but a nerf:
1. The high damage ticks are ideal to how burning is implemented on Guardian
2. Nothing I’ve seen so far is changing how conditions are cleansed, meaning that a lower damage, stacking burning will have less opportunity to do damage in the time they are applied than they do now.
3. Low Damage, stacking condition will require significantly more skills and focus to perform at a level burning does currently, leaving less room for other necessary skills.
4. Trait-wise, little has changed to improve burning builds.Unless there is some amazing Specialization we haven’t seen, my prediction is that Guardian burning builds are going to suck. If Anet is trying to PROMOTE use of conditions through burning, they sure have a stupid approach to do so.
I’m going to assume that quite a few of our skills will apply a burst of stacks rather than just 1’stack. Zealot’s fire/flame probably applies 5 stacks, Judge’s probably 3, Purging probably 2 per each time the enemy crosses the ring. I’m hoping it’s that way anyway.
Saying that, we also have the ability to use Kindled Zeal x Amped Wrath which means 46% more damage to burning. Which is 191 base, based on what has been calculated by the Saiyan.
We can guess all the stacks we want.
What I do know … everything that applies burning currently, will need 2.5 stacks to have equal to the burning damage potential we have now, assuming other factors like duration and condition damage stat/conversion stay equal. I am hopeful that the major skills meant to apply burning (VoJ/Torch) get 3 or 4 stacks.
Our skill’s aren’t going to receive additional burn stacks. Here’s why.
Five burn guardians each applying Judge’s Intervention at 2.5 stacks. Each guardian will do 875 burn damage = a burst of roughly 4375/second. In 2 ticks most cele classes’s health got cut in thirds. A thieve’s and glass builds just got their faces melted off. The guardian still has all his cd’s, F1 procs and passive blocks.
Another hint:
Inner Fire’s Fury proc on 3stack-of-burns trait. It’s not one of those traits that’s meant to happen immediately unless you proc multiple skills and or attacks. The trait is a global effect meaning anyone could apply 3 burn procs to a player. All you have to do is hit that player to receive the Fury. Having 1 skill that applies 2.5 or 3 stacks will yield this trait as OP, perma-fury, making it way too easy.
Judging by the said information, we’re going to have a single burn application of no less than 250 – and no more than – 350 with each skill offering a single stack of burns. That would leave us a burst potential of (F1 procs+JI+PF) of 3stacks = 750 to 1050. Preferably the latter. Sounds fair when you know burns from every other class now stack with each other. We have to play smarter with our Shelter and focus targeting to apply the necessary bursts and pray they don’t get cleansed right away.
Symbol+Permeating Wrath burn builds better be as good as I think they’re going to be. Permeating Wrath was always suppose to be thee group oriented aoe burn trait but the trait sacrifices was never worth it. Again, this is another indication that JI and PF are going to receive just 1 stack of burns.
The above also answered my question about symbol’s 33% burn procs. I thought 33% was way too low of a chance and that it had to be at least 50% or 66%. However, if two Guardians laid two 180 radius burn symbols, these alone could apply 3+ burn stacks on top of other damaging effects. I’m leaning towards a 40% burn proc rate instead.
Most of our skills will proc 1 stack burns. Now we have to see if durations and trait ICD will change at all. You would think it wouldn’t.

The only MMO out there with fun combat that cant get people interested in pvp. thats just sad. on a general note i do believe that this comes down to the fact of how badly you are getting rewarded in this game for doing pretty much anything especially PvP, gw2 has become nothing more than playing Dress up online.
I’d say a lot of lack of interest comes from the overall toxicity of the PvP community. We see posts about it here regularly. I’ve had countless conversations with guild members that said they tried PvP and got turned off because they were either insulted for not playing well or insulted for winning. It is often laughed off here as, "Well that’s PvP. " Until the PvP community starts policing itself instead of condoning bad mouthing new people trying to be a part of the community interest will indeed fade. .
Play a moba. The level of toxicity there (in game) is astounding. We’re all little angel’s in comparison.
Toxicity isn’t the reason why people don’t stay in the same pvp system. It’s playing the same pvp system and game mode over and over. It isn’t immersive enough; there’s no diversity. Moba have 20+ characters to choose from. That in itself is diversity. This game can’t function like that.

Since the scoreboard ends in multiples of 5 and 10, wouldn’t the above system reflect better leaderboard positioning for players of similar ranked positions and win rates?
4. Should a “mini buff” be offered for players who join the season late?
So the players who look at the leaderboard for the first time won’t get discouraged when they see players with 200 games played? The buff can take the current top leaderboard player’s stats and compares it to yours. It then averages a % of games played, leading up to that current time or rank points.
Season started: 7 days ago.
Grab #1 Player’s Info: Player A
Player A’s Average Games Per Day: 7
Total of Games Since Start: 49 games since season started
Player B just started his first ranked match.
Additional math stuffs for said example.
Player A’s average games per day in last 7 days / 100 * Player B’s Missed Days / 3 * Points Earned At End of Match + Points Earned At End of Match //his final rank points
7 / 100 * 7 / 3 * pointsAwarded2 + pointsAwarded
//Need a new variable pointsAwarded2 so you can keep original pointsAwarded data intact. Or something like that…
Player B gets .16 extra points per each whole point gained. If he was going to gain 3 rank points for a match, he would instead gain 3.49 points instead.
2 rank points = 2.32 points earned
1 rank point = 1.16 points earned
Effect ends in 7 days time or 49 games played or until _Target Player A’s points has been reached. Which ever of the three conditions comes first
This is not meant to push an inactive player directly to the top of the leaderboard, but give that player a slight jump start on what he missed. Additional factors could be added to moderate the buff’s effect such as less points earned, duration, etc.
Thanks in advanced for taking the time to read.

Projects like the Leaderboards shouldn’t take three semesters to complete. If Anet’s “lets promote a grindfest leaderboard” craps-out, which it will, then they’ll likely revert to the latest MMR Algorithm firmware; aka patch 2014, that’s collecting dust on their desktop. Hopefully they’ll have a “Collaborative Development” page where they’’ll actually hear the community’s ideas.
Who ever is the PvP Director for
b.o.t: See you in the next patch Blu :)
From what i heard/read burning will stack. Right now burning already ticks for around 700ish dmg and is already in most cases cause of death, at least for my characters. Let’s say you have 5 stacks of burning, it would be 3500 dmg per tick.
Certanly, some direct dmg do as much if not more dmg but they are not as easily applied as burning (see warrior LB, IP from engis that triggers from any fart engi does, ele….). As example: imagine a thief could place huge aoe circle on point that pulses for backstab dmg.
My concern is, that this is what will happen to burning. I hope i am wrong and the dmg calculation will be changed.
Concern eased :)
Burns in the AMA Trait videos showed Burns having a base damage of 131. We’re not sure how this will scale with amulets, nor if certain skills (most likely so) will have multiple stacks of Burns instead of the usual 1.
What’s been hinted in the video: 1:23:45
“If poison and burning were to stack you would think damage would lower on both of them.”
“That would be like a logical.. thing.. to happen… " – Karl’s subtle hint.

I’ll be nicer to anet when they stop ignoring necromancer problems.
^ This.
And this – http://www.tentonhammer.com/feature/guild-wars-2-are-necromancers-really-so-bad
Sadly Anet seems to be busy making underwear and golden pigs for the gemstore instead.
You kidding? Their budget can’t even afford SFX fire/lava on Bal skins.
Their “Add 1% profit earnings to bugs/patches/gemstore/pvecontent/Justin’s leaderboard algorithms” needs to be increased to 2%.
The extra 1% needs to go to Justin’s leaderboard algorithms.
You’re going to hate our 1.5k crit Aegis burst then
Make that a 4k Aegis burst if my team is around you..
Oh, make that an 8k Aegis burst when I pop “Retreat” right afterwards.
..Oh and…. !
Honor has two symbols traits so syncronization is easier. Cuppled with WoP having a healing effect, the Honor line makes sense overall. Not to mention WoP would be too good for adept or master position in Zeal. It doesn’t fit. What would replace Honor’s gm? Definitely not Zeal’s SA.
I think trait synchronization would get worse if WoP was switched out and Anet isn’t going to completely overhall their traits unless they get huge feedback from the community. I rather save that freebee for when they don’t properly implement Aegis on Shield.
Speaking of trait reworks
I never understood Symbol of Protection. Since you kinda do fall to the ground from kb effects, I wish SoP triggered from knocked down effects as well. If I fell from a particular height, why offer Protection when it was gravity aggro? The floor isn’t going to attack back in 2s :/
Protection on SoP is a waste boon that needs to be replaced with Regen.

-Daily Win
-Daily X Amount of Kills
-Daily Node Capture
-Daily Node Neutralizer
-Daily Player Revives
-Daily Treb User
-Daily Kill a Player on Node
-Daily Kill A Profession (rng)
Any one of these is better than the daily “class stacking”. It messing up matchmaking and overall lowering the player experience. Not sure why Anet implemented this right when Justin was in the middle of modifying matchmaking’s algorithm.
Dailies are a good idea. The type of Daily they implemented is very much counter productive and overall a bad idea.
