I never really got this distinction, is rush less legit cause it does more damage? Or is there another reason?
Ban Hundert Klingen, it does way too much damage.
Fun sidenote there, she was the warrior in my initial 80 fractals team
- Fiery Rush is allowed only if it is used normally – not against a wall and not concentrated to a single point with a teleport skill. GS’s Whirlwind against a wall is ok.

(@Sandy, not sure you were contacted yet since you didn’t come online yesterday).
ONE day I’m not online, ONE kitten day and this happens xD
I think it would be good to try and make such an agreement about fgs use yeah. It’s not relevant to me whether or not it is seen as an exploit, I think that it’s important to keep this as ‘legit’ just because it supports multi class runs, and I think many can agree that this is more fun to watch than adding more warriors.
Also, ele takes quite s bit of skill to play aside from fgs from what I’ve heard. I’ll discuss with HC, from what I know they’re the only ones that disagreed before.
Hmmmmm… I think making seperate categories is fine, but I do feel like this would make practically every record we have fall in between the two extremes, if the second cat. Allows arah jumping puzzles for example. Then again, you said that already x.x
The first person has passed the trial! Thieves will have to get in contact with me personally due to a little incident with our trialer.
Nothing here, new thread up!

You actually recognised it? :o that doesn’t happen often, Sharp!
As my uni work has finally been lifted from me, I was able to upload the alphard solo guide video thingy, its an add on to my original commentary guide thingy for arah p2 for mesmers, and it shows both my original technique idea, as well as the technique used by the guys who duoed alphard and posted it here recently.
Enjoy if you wish, if not, have a nice day on the exotic dungeon forums.
So one of the hardest bosses of the game is soloable, nice….
Guys! I found a slowpoke! Catch it before it gets away, I’m out of masterballs, and this seems to be the slowest slowpoke yet!
I just finished my alphard guide, will upload that tomorrow, and as I said, Ill be uploading a guide for mesmers at lupicus too, but this will have to wait for later. Spoj is likely right though, I feel like half the things I end up telling people about is unnecessary or obvious xD.
Just so things don’t get taken the wrong way, I would like to clarify my last post a bit.
I am in no means against using lupi’s attack pattern to generate or avoid attacks ,such as pushing to the wall in P3. Showing this in the guide is naturally useful for those trying to get past. What I meant, was that I would have enjoyed seeing another phase 3 demonstration where this isn’t used. This could be fun for those looking at your guide and either don’t want to use it, or are unable to.
and no, I will not be making a non reflect solo, the whole comparison still sounds ridiculous to me, and that opinion is not open for change.
You put a lot of work in this guide, and its very well excecuted. I’m sure many warriors will learn from this. That alone deserves a “well done”.
(edited by Sanderinoa.8065)
Has there ever been a stream or video showing devs playing a whole dungeon from start to finish?
Dehehehehehehehe.
Hehehehehehehehehe, he said devs and dungeon in one sentence
Good job, that reminds me that I should renew my own lupi solo guide soon. I do, however, not really enjoy the phase 3 wall use for the guide, I would say i only justify this use for specific record runs, and think that an initial solo would need to be for challenge, which it undermines. Though I am aware that many just want to do this to sell paths ,instead of challenge themselves.
(edited by Sanderinoa.8065)
The people who sell the slots are people who are good at the game but don’t have money. People who want the gear but suck at the game pay money to the good players. The good players take the bad player’s money and buy toys they wouldn’t be able to afford without the bad player’s money. The bad players get to look how they want by throwing coppers at their screens.
Both sides get what they want. What is the problem?
Oooooooh, randomfightfan. Is alive! We missed you, now come to EU and play again!
Thanks
i was actually waiting to see you do a mesmer solo on the forum but thats fair enough if you’re busy^
I tested out my original hypothesis as well as the duo technique last weekend, they both work well, after I added some tweaks, so Ill do the vidding at the end of the week, before I leave for holidays :O
Good job I havent gotten around vidding yet on the mesmer, as I am quite busy nowadays, good to see others do have the time
Erm, who is king in mesmerville, you or me?
Wardens generally start attacking in max. melee range a.d therefore do not move enemies. I’m not even entirely sure if the do when too close (which shouldn’t happen now anymore anyway).
Ah yes sorry, Ive gotten a little rusty I guess :P after the holidays I’ll have time to get back in shape though
Just stay in max. melee range, you’ll never push him out of wardens and therefore don’t have to push him back in./
When illusions spawn, you can fairly easily run/dodge behind a box, feedback alphard and destroy illusions yourself.
IF wardens wouldn’t stop working, this fight would be very easy to solo.
Yeah if you take a break during the illusion spawn he is quite easy, anyhow, on the pushing, won’t 1 warden push alphard out of the range of the next one?
I think you should give it a shot yourself though, I’m massively bad at playing mes so you might have more luck than I did.
What pulling technique? Did they just bring them out to a box or something?
Look back to my original post, I linked it there, anyways, I did actually manage to try it myself yesterday, and it has an annoying problem.
When using mimic when illusions spawn, the wardens magically stop spinning for no reason , this does not seem to apply to feedback though. One feedback does about 50%+ damage to all illusions around, but as mimic is no longer an option, you are very vulnerable while the skill recharges, and one of the biggest problems is that you NEED to keep pushing alphard back into the wardens, to avoid getting pulled and exploded.
What I ended up using was a combination of sidestepping, late heal use(to keep passive long) blurred frenzies and mass invisibility(doesn’t seem to bug out wardens). I tried actually dodging before too, but that messed up the wardens again xD.
After a second feedback the illusions should be dead, but the 50% mark is likely reached, spawning another load. It’s possible, but quite difficult and partially luck dependant.
(I am talking about this with the 10/30/0/20/10 build, as this was the one used in my initial guide)
My issues came from the illusions, as I can’t kill them with only feedback and mimic, and when they target the wardens that aren’t whirling my wardens start dying, which means I’m generally unprotected.
hmmm, bummer, I was afraid of this, as I stated(I think) I only had a couple minutes to test my ideas, but have not been able to test a full solo yet, ill see if I can find something to make this work ,once I have time tomorrow. I’m sorry for the insufficient ideas.
Question, what build were you running, food were you using, and did you have perception sigils stacks?
That aside, I think you can use the pulling technique the other guys on the forum who duoed him used… Might actually go faster than prepatch.
(edited by Sanderinoa.8065)
Oh right I forgot about pulling him there XD I don’t use that frequently at all, well good job.
Anyone mind posting a solo video on Alphard with a warr, and another w/ mes? I can do it, but it takes a fair bit of effort and I don’t often pull it off first try anymore. Show me your strategies.
Ok so I am not able to post a video right now, university is quite time consuming, but I had a couple of minutes to check out alphard. Here it comes, for mesmer soloers, as well as teams running with mesmers.
First off, the pull attack can be reflected with temporal curtain, a traited warden, as well as a feedback, the bomb damage does become yours when pull is reflected, and originates from your current location( watch out gsmesmers). The warden’s reflection obviously makes the bomb originate from your warden’s location though.
Now, for the safe strategy, for mesmers the problem will now be the daggerstorm, which hits instantly, while the normal approach would be to use blurred frenzy and blink out of the area near one of the crates, because of your DPS lack, this will end up with all crates being destroyed before Alphard is(hypothesis, I am unable to test that now).
So here it is. The phantasmal warden, when untraited, has the uncanny ability to block any and every projectile(some of you may use this at old tom), I am not sure how many are aware of this, anyways, this, you guessed it, includes the DAGGERSTORM.
so, to kill alphard, use the phantasmal warden at the start of the fight, use your new OP signet, spawn your next warden properly so its attacks lock into the first warden’s. Now, try to take alphard’s attention for a little while, and use feedback for his pull attack(consider standing close for extra damage), whenever the small gap between the warden’s attacks occurs.
When the warden is now off cooldown, spawn your third warden and make sure its attacks lock into the gap, giving you a permanent warden’s attack upkeep.
Now, for the adds, considering you’re likely running 20 in inspiration, make sure the traits you use are glamour mastery and temporal enchanter, now equip mimic and feedback. When the adds spawn, first use feedback, hope you do a lot of damage, after this, use your mimic skill and run out of the warden’s protection into the group of mobs, these are likely to attack you, and because of their quick hits, you will reflect an enormous amount of damage back to them, after the initial projectile absorption.
If one of your wardens dies nontheless, you still have your signet and normal warden CD to get this guy back up and running.
Sidenote: to those thinking the warden will be interrupted by the pull, making it impossible to keep up the protection, as was certainly true before, this is now irrelevant, because you’re blocking instead of reflecting. The reason the warden was interrupted before, was because he reflected the pull attack, this attack intervenes with the spin, thus ending it as the pull is launched back. Now that you are blocking, this is no longer the case, so they will keep spinning.
Now just hit it, and wait till he dies.
I hope this helps out
EDIT: I too tried out this technique for myself, finally, turns out its actually extremely hard to pull off, as mimic makes your wardens bug out and stop spinning, making you extremely vulnerable untill feedback is up again. With mass invisibility I was able to take him down eventually, but this is not reliable.
For mesmer soloers, use the same pull technique as done in the mesmer duo, posted a bit later:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X04Ylot-51g
Extra note: mimic can also be used in combination with the stability mantra to absorb the pull+bomb attack, which can help some soloers get Operative Brie down more easily, as it can hit about 70k with every one of the 4 hits(direct damage)
In team setting, the warden block still works, so I would like to think it was not all for nothing.
I am sorry for the inconvenience
(edited by Sanderinoa.8065)
Ugh.. now I have to update the P2 video again, will do that this weekend i suppose, when I have time.
Question guys, you say the bomb explodes instantly when not dodged, how does reflection play here? if alphad does dodge, does it murder me too?
I dont want to sound negative, I hope you find some members, but I’d reccomend posting this on the recruitment forums too, for starters, I dont know how many lurkers we have, naturally, but most here seem to already be settled in dungeon guilds.
Our solid requirement is slightly changed, the first lupicus solo you do does not allow the use of the wall to manipulate the third phase, as seen in some of the record kill videos.
Thanks Sanderinoa. Appreciate the explanations.
The only time I run a mantra build is in Lupi fights and I bring healing, mantra of pain, and stability, along with feedback.
Is that what you generally run most dungeons, changing the mantras depending on what you need (such as interrupts/condition cleanse)?
Yup, in general I run the 15/30/0/25/0 build as explained before, I try to keep up the healing mantra at all times, feedback in secondary slot, and change the other mantras whenever I need a specific one, when in doubt, I use distraction, for the 5-8 vulnerability stacks due to the 15 domination minor. In most situation this makes me end up with recovery mantra-daze mantra-condi mantra-feedback, or a slight variation.
but because of the glasscannon nature of the build you need to know your own limits too :P
I do not run this constantly, the nature of my playstyle and the build is the (easy) switch between full offense and defense, in specific situations in which I know I can not handle the mantras, I switch to blurred inscriptions, and go for blink-signet of midnight, with ether fest.
(examples of these situations are the grawl final boss, certain encounters with mossman and captain asylum prepatch, to make meleeing more smooth, and being able to survive his greatsword phase if it triggers)
This gives you an immense increase in survivability(extra dodge+stunbreaker, usable anywhere, anytime every 30 sec, combined with quick movement to counter melee opponents) , while keeping the plain stat bonusses from your traits.

Ruby orbs are only 2% better than scholar runes without the 10% bonus. Thats a barely noticeable difference. You may aswell take scholar runes so your direct damage is better and your reflects are better.
That seems barely worth it, as my direct damage is equivalent of a cleric axebear ranger with his bear dead.
As for the reflects part, that’s interesting. I’m sure bosses like Lupi, CoF p1, Archdiviner, etc would be worth it, but I’d almost rather have the 2% for my clones 24/7 rather than the 10% in certain instances for my reflects.
I don’t know, I’d have to do math, and math is hard.
Honestly, if you’re hitting mobs with your sword, your damage should not be all that bad, with a proper mantra build with 2/3 mantras charged, an autoattack chain should hit about 2-2-4=8k damage, and you can likely use about 2 aa chains within the time that a swordsman hits for another 6 to 8k, if you have 3 swordsmen up(hypothetical sistuation, naturally), you should get 16k(presuming all crits) direct damage off, within the same time in which the swordsmen do a total of 36-48k damage(presuming all crits). increasing phantasm damage by 2% would increase total phantasm damage to 36.72k-48.96k damage, and direct damage from 16k to 16.32k. while, presuming you keep your health above 90%, your direct damage should be increased from16k to 17.6k.
The scholar runes here increase your damage around 1.5x as much, compared to what the ruby orbs do, in a purely hypothetical situation in which:
1. you have 3 SWORDSMEN phantasms up,
2. your health stays above 90%,
3. you are attacking constantly
4. crit chance is increased to 100% to make things easier for my lame brain to comprehend at this hour.
If your damage is indeed lower than 16k per aa, consider that it has to be atleast below 12.8k per chain to reach the amount of ruby orb damage increase with the 3 swordsmen presuming the 8k hits(which generates a total damage increase of 1280).
Also, this does not take damage from attacks such as illusionary riposte in account, neither does it reflection.
I am not claiming scholar runes are always better for the mesmer, Im just bored and thought I’d do some simple maths late at night. there are plenty situations in which the 90% health upkeep is hard to match(looking at you ascalon/grawl fractal).
Personally I never understood why people keep running 30 in inspiration, I find no good traits in the grandmaster slot that are usable in an actual fight. Personally I run 15/30/0/25/0 or 10/30/0/20/10(arah build), 30/30/0/0/10 for non reflect situations though.
As for major traits, Duelist’s dicipline is a complete waste in my eyes, the duelist is an allright phantasm, but it isnt on par with the damage the swordsman provides, or the reflection the warden does. I would personally go for empowering mantras(XI) with mantras charged of course, or Blurred Inscription(VIII) combined with a signet of midnight for harder situations. Lastly, persisting images really doesnt have a big effect on phantasm survivability in non open world PvE, it increases health by around 1600 on phantasms, and honestly, that’s not going to make them take another hit, and definitely not more than 1. taking II, glamour mastery would usually be a better choice, in my experience.
Those are my thoughts on the mesmer build atleast
(edited by Sanderinoa.8065)
No offense, but considering 80% of the people here are the ones who made those videos, posting such a statement here is rather uproductive totally agree though.
Shameless bump, as always !
I’ve reached the point where I need to have the names of those who submitted videos/had reached a really high level and were featured in said videos.
Sanderinoa took the time to contact me ingame and express his thoughts on what had been the real difficulty and gave me a personnal comment as well. If everyone could do it I’d be like super pleased and could take the tribute a step further.

Haviz and I duoed the shaman on scale 77, without reflects.
I can confirm this, haviz refuses to play anything but minions master necro nowadays, its really annoying
What flavour?
Bearbow flavour
Ain’t nobody got time fo that, and I have nothing to prove, but let me say that the icecream I bought is much better than all of yours.
X_x it is true, well I am glad to have helped in creating a fun thread on the dungeon forums again, we missed those. It’s time to be the adult in the situation
Gz on the duo, good job. Now let’s all get along and buy icecream together.
did you ever reach 80 and try the shaman there/ or did you both try it on 80 with the “melee” style? and why on earth 48, why not 49/58/68 or 80? your do realise your basicly comparing almost the same difference lvl1 video has to yours than it is to us(elementals are lvl80 at lvl1)-at lvl48 (82lvls) and at 80 theyre (84lvl)—but ofc not to leave any loose ends yeeh the agony is the difference and shaman doesnt scale that much
That’s just crossing a line man… You’re not the only one at 80, I was there before the patch too on my guardian, I know how much of a faceroll the grawl shaman can be there if you run with 2 guards. We didn’t go for lvl 80 because the dictates challenge(which it was done for) stated lvl 48, and as we were trying to be the first, we thought it pointless going lvl 80 instead. Melee/ ranged however, I think both weth and I are usually too stubborn to switch to ranged options, I don’t care how much you claim I’m not doing any work. We aren’t comparing a lvl 1 vs lvl 32, the grubs numbers scale more slowly as higher lvls are reached. We are comparing 48 with a war and mesmer in melee range with a lvl 80 guardian/mesmer at range. And considering the fact that you could take an arow in the face and survive, I’m guessing you werent exactly playing berserkers either.
Compared to other fights in the game, 48 grawl could be quite horrible for a lot of teams, mostly those without guardians or mesmers, saying that the fight in general is a cakewalk, while trying to prove a point, is in no way backing up anything, its just more boasting.
So, if all we’re going to do is boast and repeat each other, Im not going to continue. Good night.
Isn’t using a pistol phantasm ranged?
smart
Well Im not saying its more effective, I can certainly agree that using ranged would be smarter in lots of places, I just think its more fun/harder to do in melee. and come on.. saying 48 grawl is a cakewalk? really? I dont think its fair to say that considering the setups I see you run.
this mesmer seems to hit naked for the same amount of dmg as sanderinoa melee in his duo video on 48
You cant even see his damage in the naked video, he’s wearing armor in the duo… stop exaggerating
Gj
But i ,personally, have to say its not much impressive since its ranged.wethospu and sanderinoa´s duo at 48 was way cooler, since they meleed.
why not melee?^^
I approve of this though, totally not biased
can you tell me the traits and armor used btw?
Allrighty then, its nice and warm here
