Every time I see one of these ’ regen builds’ everyone is going melee, is there something wrong with wanting to use a bow? I know I wont be able to fit in a weapon cast time reduction in, when I have 0/0/30/10/30, but I still really like my bow skills above everything else.

Will this be alright?

Bow is viable if that’s what you want to do, I posted a build for Archers a couple of days back. I have been running full bow since Launch and enjoy skirmishing with it.
Melee weapons are more polished than bows but that doesn’t make the Archer non-viable…just less viable =) But if that’s the playstyle you are after then go for it!

I have several 1vX fights vs non scaled enemies in my Vids

(granted, there are a couple of fights that had a scaled mixed in with 80s but out-manned none the less)

And I’m kitten LB/SB

Or try Tupro, Exploits, Faux, Xsorus vids and likely others I am not thinking about..

As for 1v1s I dont think I have lost a 1v1 in a good 2 weeks..

I’ve seen many Rangers doing this in fights. Luckily though, I’m not an idiot. I have enough tPvP experience against pet builds to target the pets first. Since 99% of the time, pets are tougher than the caster.

I take pride to be in that 1% that are tougher than their pet! ; )

The counter for it is simple. Kill the big glowing nature spirit. The elite has a long CD and the spirit is weak.

Uh…. Not sure if you’re serious… That things pretty sturdy, your best bet is when you see the spirit holding its arm in the air to hit it with an interrupt and/or wait to kill the ranger.

Better still kite the Ranger away from the Static spirit and out of the Rez/Regen range. But so few even attempt it

Watch Vol II in my Sig, I do it twice in the vid. It’s our elite and it takes good timing to pull it off.

I live in WvW and all I do is Solo/roam/small man w/guildies…if that’s your play style then Ranger has several ways to go that work quite well. Most are however bunker/bm based.

As for Zerg surfing, I can’t voice an opinion as I don’t find the fights near as fun and as a result don’t do it very often.

I tend to experiment and take things to their extremes and tweak until I find a sweet spot I like. This was increasingly difficult to do with bows and find the survival I wanted.

In an Effort to remain an Archer and find a sweet spot I have refined to the following build. I have been running it for the last two weeks on and off and several clips from my new Video I was using it. It’s held up well vs all classes as well 1vX situations.

If you want to run GS then simply shift 5 from skirmishing to WS and spec the 20% on great sword. It’s designed for Direct Damage roaming/solo with at least one Bow so please judge in context.

Highlights:

2920 attack SB – 3000 LB
30% Crit Rate and Damage
1912 tough/2976 Armor/18400 Hits
769 Healing Power (3 passive regens)

Over 325/HP Sec Passive Regen that are not boons and cant be stripped.

SoR – Active/Passive Condition Removal/Stunbreak
Signet of the Hunt – Gotta always be moving! And the Pet Pimp Preload!
Signet of the Wild – Regen and Short Dur Pet Pimpin’
TU for Heal as using it preemptively just sweet

Max BM for Pet Damage/30% Bonus to pet Crit Dam from Skirmishing (I)

Twin Birds Provide Chill/Blindness (traited ,use F2 2X and Swap pet) and steady hard damage (imho Birds tend to be ignored more than larger pets and I like the defensive aspects with Blind/Chill they bring in addition to the High DPS)

High Vigor Access and hence high Dodge rate (Min 12/min with Energy Sigils which mean 24 sec of protection/min, 36 sec per Min of outright evaded or protection mitigated Damage)

And For the Archers 20% Faster on all bow skills (GS can be traited likewise in the Skirmishing/WS mod mentioned Earlier)

Since the build is more spread you can use w/e Elite you like as they each bring a different flavor and are really to taste and situational.

Question: Why double bow you ask? It’s Kitten!?!

Answer: I don’t care, It’s what I wanted to do from day one, I am stubborn like to do things my way and am determined to make it work. I don’t do things this way because its easy, I like the challenge as it’s hard. That being said, there are positives of being able to constantly deal damage from range.

Anyways wanted to share for those that want a DD BM/Regen build with at least a Single Bow in it =)

I have always maintained that the key to having fun on a Ranger was playing to their strengths rather than dwelling on their weakness, most of the Rangers who seem to be having success seem to have realized this fact and have made adjustments accordingly.

I have a Direct Damage setup, I will post when I get home as I am working now. I originally shared it with Tupro but it seems like I should put it out there for those who dont like to run condition damage

Raven/Owl for the Vigor/DPS/Blindness/Chill combo is a good offense/defense combo would mesh well I think with what you are doing.

I have found that most people dont know how to react to even a halfway capable ranger at all! lol

I think your use of the LB at short distance is counter-intuitive to the intent of the design, however, it negates many of the issues of the weapon. I guess I just dont see it as weak as some, but hey, I also think the ranger is in a pretty darn good spot balance-wise so I am in the minority on that one.

I do like your use of the LB though, I may try it out. Though, my lil asura doing the maul animation really tugs at my heartstrings.. its questionable whether or not I can give that up. :P

Agreed! I use LB in tight for at my feet Barrages for the cripple/damage! And the slow arrow flight with our other LB skills does not hinder quite as much when the range is tighter. I have grown fond of the knock back arrow and use Hunters Shot/Rapid fire for bursting (I know baby bursts)

If you love your little Maul animation then don’t fix what isn’t broke!!

Just a tip, for those that didnt already know.. when the mesmer pops their downed ability that puts out a clone, it will always be the second one that comes up. Dont even bother with the first (pretty sure only one has the “skull” icon above them too, thats the real one).

But, I do have a question! When were bunker regen BM rangers considered kitten Am I missing something? I think you could poke people to death with your finger of doom with how much survivability you get from that. But, something may have changed that I am not aware of. I do know that signets received a massive buff, which should make your build (just looking at your utility skills) even tougher. Only weakness I see with it is the choice of two bows, but the build itself should more than makeup for it.

Then again, I am just going from the video and you didnt actually post the build, so I am just confuzzled. :P Xsorus probably used pain inverter on me. So, Ill blame him.

I’m just hard headed and wanted to be an Archer from day one and refused to cave. No other Reason than that. I also like a challenge and trying to do it with LB/SB has become fun. That’s why the Vid title is what it is =)

My build is not a condition build at all…it’s white damage based and most of the time I don’t have any crit rate though I’m messing with that now. I spend my time keeping distance/dodging between TU’s and try and hinder/stun and generally irritate for my Pet to land heavy strikes rather than the inverse. May as well since I will never hit like my pet does without sacrificing a lot of survival.

Truth be told most people don’t know how to react when they run into me.

What build are you using?

Kinda my own Mish mash of Cleric/Knights/Soldiers. There’s some variance on the build in the Vid as I am still tinkering.

Mainstays in spec are 30WS/30BM and the 10 points float as I am still seeing how much crit rate I can establish vs power/hits

My baselines are 3K Armor/2K toughness/1K healing and still twinking from there.

Have 3 passive regens with SoTW/Natural Healing/Mango Pie, still messing with sharpening Stone/maintenance oil as I continue to tune.

Vigor on Heals/Vigor on Bird Summon/50% Endo on Weapon Swap/50% Endo Regen trait allows for ~12+ Dodges/min that are followed by 2 sec of protection.

With base 40% Mitigation in suit as is before protection that’s a fair portion of outright misses or heavily mitigated hits/min of combat all while the regen (~350/sec passive) ticks away.

Gets Crazy when Barkskin kicks in.

I have settled on TU for heal, SoR (Condition Clear/Stun Break) SoTH, SoTW, Nature Elite for skills after trying out various combos with my setup.

Durzilla is right, there’s plenty of ways to go. Many on these forums eager to help and demonstrate the different build/spec/style & skills

Rangers happen to lend well to a bunker/heal style and BM synergises well with it.

I prefer this route but I tend to be the oddball around here a bit with my persistence on Longbow. But the Video title about sums it up….

My Videos are never about telling people how to do something, I’m happy if they are entertaining and lend to the community in any way. I enjoy making them when inspired =)

I play a Ranger and I love doing the Self Rez from downed with the Nature Elite,

When they finally down you and you time it right and pop back p at 50% Health with some Endo and a fresh HoT and it’s Go Time! All over again =)

I have a couple of instances recorded in my new Vid, it’s a hoot!

I play Ranger and likely win or Draw over 90% of my 1v1 fights and Win/Draw a good 50% of 1v2…they are a very fun and complete roaming class, perhaps not the best at anything but pretty strong at many things if you micromanage you pet well.

My gripe is their strong Roam setup is not a good Zerg setup so I tend to guild small man/solo support roam as a playstyle.

So far despite negatives about the class I simply sidestep those negatives and enjoy the Ride

Cant speak for Dungeons but my Birds with Signet of Stone and 30 BM with Compassion Training and Natural healing with SoTW are healing machines,

Barkskin in WS 30 trait also gives pets 30% Dam reduction at 25% health.

In WvW they can survive fine with 3-4 Vet Mobs on them. Has anyone seen good pet survival with all the healing applied in Dungeons?

I personally view the regen boon as supplemental to the Passive Regens (Natural Healing/SoTW) especially when matched with Mango Pie for a 3rd passive regen.

They can strip the regen all they want as they just keep coming back. I am thankful the passive regens cant be stripped….that would suck kitten…

My build is used WvW not sure how it would work in tPVP…

Regen/BM/Bunker build with 3K Attack, 20K hits, 1000+ Healing, 2K Tough, and 3K Armor using 3 passive regens ~40% mitigation ~380 health per second passive and heavy pet damage

X-X-30-X-30 (X is where I vary my leftover 10 points)

Rangers can be downed by a Thief…..wow, learn something new every day!

I enjoy it despite my kitten being broken

I would say I am disappointed but that would require expectations on my part, history has taught me a lesson and I know better now…

Since the game fired up I have seen one patch after another make large strides for other less “needy” classes while any changes to the Ranger seem to be in small and very measured increments and rarely addresses the changes the community is bringing to the Devs attention.

I would simply like to understand why they approach the Ranger the way they do.

I still like my Ranger but truth be told I feel as if Devs do not listen to us.

I guess I am sour because I wanted my Longbow fixed

I only posted the Vid because there was conflicting information regarding if it worked in WvW or not…..both those clips were in the last two days..

It lasts a minute with a 480/sec heal and can rez/condition clear up to 2 times in that minute so longer duration on it

Setting it straight, it works.

I have heard various feedback and decided to record it to settle the matter. As far as the 30% chance, when timed right and within range it hasn’t failed me.

Fought a duo, Thief and an Ele in SoR at the bridge to the “crossroads” just outside the Border last night around 7PM Eastern…fight went on for ages and the Ele finally bailed and the Thief and I continued fighting….

I had basically ignored the thief as I fought the Ele but once he was alone I realized the Thief couldn’t hurt me, he realized pretty quick as well but kept trying. Eventually I stopped mid fight and started to /laugh and the thief stopped fighting to /laugh as well…I couldn’t stop laughing IRL had me in stitches. Here we are standing 15 feet apart laughing instead of fighting

when I played my Mini I did Heavy Melee/Heavy Instrument Low Stealth spec.

Mainly cause I duoed a lot with an Infil Friend (yipee) and I was bait, people would see me, PA me (and do kitten damage cause I had like 800AF) then yipee would PA them.

I pimped my Minis Shouts (10 SD / 10 Pierce / 101 Acuity and RAs to supplement)

Was not unusual to double Crit for a clean 1K Damage on a round of shouts

Dude, thats what bothered me about daoc, each class only had like 1-2 builds that were actually decent, and if you didn’t run them, you were dead in the water. There was no real variation

Or you could do crazy things like a petless melee mini to keep it fun hahahaha

Fura that’s my Fav part of this game, you can change your entire angle in 15 minutes and be back out there

I use Dwayna Runes and due to kittening my crit rate I use Sigils of Energy (50% Endo regen on swap)
