That’s next….build has 2450 power, 50 Crit rate and 202 Crit Damage….just establishing that I can perma might (and near perma Quickness/Fury/Protection/Regen and swiftness) with it..now to get it in action ….
It’s an option only if you “look at me I so leet I play core ranger!”.

I play Core Ranger regularly in PVP and I have HoT….I have always felt the Druid feels clunky and not very Organic. I play druid in small segments but always go back to messing with non druid builds

/Yawn Bristle is good but not my Best DPS option, once again it’s my Drake…single hardest hitting attack I can set up. I can’t do (see image) with a Bristle. And I have a folder full of these, this is just the biggest. Edits for anonymity purposes. But that’s in a PVP match.

druid is good and all. But, I cant find a good reason to use it if I am a roamer by myself. I do have a few druid clips I am saving though for later. I run ranger mostly because Druid doesn’t appeal to me because it doesn’t give me what survival trait line does mostly. To sum up druid In my eyes. I like it for a team fights, but as for roaming its OK but doesn’t give me the offense/defense like survival.
Feel the same, been running melee only non druid for MONTHS I was running shouts before they buffed em =D

I’ve not tried the build, yet. I see that it is using sword, axe, and great sword. The last double melee build I was running used axe, dagger, and sword, torch (for fire fields). Would that work possibly? I’m not a huge fan of the GS.
I was using Troll Unguent though, with lightning reflexes, and entangle. This looks interesting so may give it a whirl anyway with my old weapon set. Double Melee has a higher skill level I think.
I’m always amazed and when I see people running them on their ranger. I always know it is going to be a hell of a fight if they play well and usually a respawn for me.
The specifics of the build are aimed at Single Strike High Damage Attacks, The Weapon set in there is the best for that purpose.
Idea is decent survival while Stacking various high % Damage mods. (MoC/Opening Strike/Enlarge with intelligence Auto Crits) so Torch and Dagger are not ideal. Axe and GS have our Highest Delve Single attacks, any variance away would require significantly modding the rest of the build and breaking that synergy.
I played a hotjoin with this guy, we crushed them like bugs ;-)

Okay, tried the build. In 1v1s it works very well and I could manage my fights. In 2v1 fights or more….well I stink. Or better said, I’m more use to pulling back to range an opponent that I’m not use to managing melee space and position. I’m going to still give it practice to change things up but wow it made me realize how long its been since I played pure melee.
I’m so used to all melee as its been how I play for months. Sword Evades and GS Block and the Taunts are your best friend in close. Takes some time but it does work pretty well once you get your rotations down.

You can always run SoR or another shout instead of SoTW if you feel you are having issues managing condis.
It ruins the magic of the build this way.
The build is especially about the burst and unstoppable gameplay with the stability and +25% burst.

Lower CDs on shouts (both 24 sec now) and the improved Striders really help its viability. I use the Generosity for the little extra condi removal as I am always assured of a proc on Weapon swap with intelligence. So up to 6 weapon swaps / min (6 generosity procs) and 2-3 applications each of both Guard and Protect Me, 4 application of WHaO and up to 2 of SoTP gives some viable condi removal.
Potential Condis removed per Min: ~ 16-18 or 1/3.5 seconds or so
Melee defense is great with Dodge/Evades/protection and plenty of stab and I already spoke about how powerful Striders/WD are as a Ranged defense.

What would you suggest me to focus on? Once I see a Necro I know I’m dead meat. Once I pop SotP I’m dead (corrupt) and if I don’t – I’m dead.
And if I’m fighting thieves I usually get blinded on maul (it’s easy to interrupt by so many ways) and without it it’s just a matter of time when they burst me down. And nope, with so much mobility and stealth on their hands my pet simply won’t do the job for me.

Do you have a shout build with range weapons vs melee?
Sorry it’s a melee only build, Striders defense requires melee weapons and the MoC Burst setup doesn’t lend well with channeled DPS (Like Rapid Fire) you really need a single attach high Delve to make this work. Like GS2 and Axe4.

I love what they did to my shout build (post up with synopsis in forum)
As a few of you may know I was already running a Shout melee build but was in WS not Skirmishing. With the new changes to strider/Shouts I revised my build to as follows
I swap Oops you Died the River Drake (Dat Tailswipe) in for the Poof Ouch the Smokescale sometimes but with short CD on Sword/GS I love the smoke finishers, Machine Gun Barney the Bristleback is a constant
After a day of Playing and falling in love I will use a map quote for my new title
“I’m a Ninja with a Dinosaur”
I’m by Definition a Burst/Bunker/Support in close Melee Beast master
(see my Sig for Vids of old build)
Highlights:
- Frequent access to auto crits via Intelligence/remorseless (GS passive/2nd pet swap/weapon swap/SoTP)
- MoC Damage boost for me and pet and Enlarge Damage boost for me and pet.
- Stacking MoC/Remorseless/Enlarge provides outstanding burst for you and Pet with most attacks being AE
- Solid AE Healing and condition removal, AE stun break and swiftness for me and allies
- Solid Mobility and ridiculous access to Stability, incredible Evades
- Ranged Defense: Striders Defense-Whirling blades-GS Block make you near invulnerable at range and force in close combat
- Potential for up to 7×2 Sec Taunts per minute for Rez/Etc
- Respectable/Optimized power and defense stats and CDs to support build play
- Quickdraw for minimizing Prime Weapon CD on Swap (more frequent access to MoC by using Axe4 and GS5 on Swap)
All I will say is they took my Old Quirky build and made it a masterpiece

True, but I didn’t realize ranged was a required criteria in this thread, also TS is a Single Hit…yes can be countered but unloads WAY more damage in a single hit.

You need Pressure and Heat to make a Diamond!
So going into the last day of PVP season I was caught in the perpetual hamster wheel as a somewhat casual player queuing Solo and taking my chances . 2 pips into second Ruby Tier I had pretty much given up hope of hitting Diamond. One step forward and two back….
Last night I log in around 7PM and quickly roll off 5 straight wins, I entertain the thought of a big winning streak! Then I lose one, heartbreak! But gain a pip! Feeling both adequate pressure and Heat….4.5 hours later I had run off a 19 win 3 loss run gaining pips in 2 of my 3 losses!
Long story short…..Epic Run….logged off at Midnight….made 5 Tiers in Ruby and…
Ochit! Ding Diamond….the hard way!
So, all it took was a little pressure to make a Diamond =D

If anything, core pets should be brought up to par with HoT pets because that is what they are meant to originally supposed to do, give the Ranger an edge with their proffesion mechanic by maintaining a prescence in two places at once.
Yep. So many of the core pets just don’t do anything at all. The meta was basically “dogs and… uhhh?…”
Looking at you, drakes and moas. Learn to turn around when you breathe.
Their F2 (Drakes) do needs work…but see Ochit video in Sig for burst DPS from a Drake, tanky pet and certainly NOT useless. Bouncing lightning F2 from River Drake isn’t half bad for reliability.
Agreed, I ONLY play my Ranger Ochit in PVP and am somewhat proficient on it. I am only missing the Achievement for winning 5 matches on second class and I REFUSE to drag down my Team with my sub par play on another class…result is practicing in Hot Join and unranked on a class I have no desire to play in order to not drag down my team.
Last 3 days painful and ZERO progress as I practice on a Guard I have never played…
Worst is people talking trash when practicing in Hot Join when your on a class other than your main and you know full well you would decimate that individual if you were playing on your Main…
That achievement is problematic
They buffed pet’s survivability? By what, increasing their hp pools to 15k hp? The only pet that got survival increases were drake with doubled hp and bear with more armor — neither of those are used in pvp.
Some pets got a 300-400-700 toughness increase.
Not the raven or jaguar, which are the DPS pets rangers take.
Nobody uses bears or drakes in pvp. Or pigs.
Whine away on your warrior, though. Given how much attention you consistently get on patches, it’s a matter of time before warriors get to have full uptime while keeping thief burst levels of damage on plate armor and about 6-7k more health.
At least thief dagger is single target.
It’s a good thing more people don’t use Drakes =)
Melee (without stealth) are the Easiest class for Rangers to handle, just saying.
I <3 my Drakes, Durable, Most attacks cleave and Dat Tailswipe…have a folder FULL of 15-20K spikes from Tailswipe.
Smokescale and Dogs good as well, birds and cats too squishy for my liking.

I would expect people to vary it a little to taste, it’s the concept that basically stays the same.
Yeah I have played with Zephyr and it lends VERY well with quickened Tailswipes instead of BW and it IS fun but I find I can provide a lot of utility to others with BW. I use it to Rez and pull target from the guy getting stomped all the time. Also I would have expected SOS over PM not SoTW =) …That enlarge!!

One question though, why are you using the River Drake? Seems to me that the Salamander or even the Marsh Drake deal more damage.
River’s bolts bounce and have decent range so if there are enemies behind me and my prime target in front it will bounce off the guys behind me. I personally find I land it more than the Drakes, the Reef misses F2 all the time!
Also, I know it applies to all the Drakes but I have had bounces for 2500-2800 per bolt/per target so thats 10K AE if he’s enlarged/Sick em and landed an initial crit. I like to use whirling blades in harmony with it as enemies notice the Drake less when I flair my arms like a raving lunatic =D
Edit: For what it’s worth I saw a half dozen people running my build last night in PVP =D

Oddly enough Halcyon the Reef Drake seems to hit harder than the others, I have some new footage and I have 2 of the Reef landing for 18,2 and 18.8. No might was involved and I have already seen what it does to full glass so I’m confused as to why I hit harder with the Reef off same delve…

I ran something similar like this before, while its fun to see the large melee numbers, because it can deal those pretty good, it lacks so much over survival skills that against most competent players you will be easily dealt with due to lacking staple survival skills like lightning reflexes or signet of stone since project me is often lackluster at best.
With that said, it can still be a pretty fun build to run with.
The build has a ton of survival, Empathic Bond/Shouts removing Condi, 3K Armor, tons of evades. I would think the 2nd songs clips made that clear that its NOT just big burst but good sustain as well. I understand the SoS vs PM arguement. I just found PM fits what “I” am doing better is all. I think they both have their merits =D

Out of curiosity, why would you use “Protect Me!” over Signet of Stone? It’s a pet sac and prevents point capture, the only thing it has going for it is slightly shorter cooldown. I run a shout-centric BM build myself, trooper runes and all, and I’d never pick “Protect Me” over Signet of Stone.
Slightly shorter is an understatement. Signet of Stone recharge is 80 seconds. Protect Me is 48s.
This and add an additional condi cleans and AE Buffs. Both have merits, it’s less of an issue with Drakes. I lose a Dog every so often =)
