Been having a lot of fun with this in WvW small man and Solo Havok/Roaming with old DAoC guildies(my preferred play style)
CC/Condition control is extremely solid with Melandru runes 25% Stun/Condi reduc, Sigils of Generosity, Empathic Bond, SoR, Shared Anguish & Hide in Plain sight
3 Passive Regens via Mango, SoTW & Natural healing…individually they are not much but they combine for a Solid Regen which lends well to the weapon sets ability to avoid/mitigate and maintain distance when needed. (620 healing hits a 100/tick heal on the signet)
Hunters Shot and HiPS provides good opportunity for masked barrages and better use of the skill in close combat.
1912 Toughness and over 3K Armor with Good mobility 20K hits with stacks up.
When fully stacked (Rank 457) with bloodlust I add 350 Power 100 condition damage as well as 2500 hits to the build
so offensively I rock 3360 attack 33% Crit Rate and 50% crit Damage with Birds running 30BM and 30% Crit Damage for Very solid sustained DPS in whats essentially a Bunker build
Hadn’t shared in a while so I guess I was due =)
BTW Just replaced my Vid Card and will be Frapsing a new Vid soon using this setup as opposed to my old GBD SB/LBseries =)

Always cracked me up that Kalorian and Me ended up playing similar classes in GW2 again
He had a high rank Reaver in DAOC, and I had a High Rank Valkyrie in DAOC.
I found it LOLs myself ; )
Sup man!
Thanks for the entertaining read….makes me feel all warm and mushy and loved inside. =)
Upleveled PvE Hero bearbow Rangers are obviously at the top.
I mean, who doesn’t love easy bags?Fixed it for you. Do not for a moment think that a PVT/Clerics bear ranger is easy meat even if its upleveled. They tank like mad.
^^ This!!
I fight and kill Necros in WvW with relative regularity on my Ranger…only well played ones give me a hard time and I still rarely lose to them. People tend to generalize far too much on these forums. Take 10 different players with the same build/setup and you will have 10 different ways to approach the fight
I run 20K hits/3K armor in medium with Empathic Bond/Poultry Lemon+Melandru/SoR so hardly weak to burst or conditions…
There are 2 ways to deal damage…condition and power setups. I do not use conditions therefore by default it is a “Power” build
That what I roll with, if its standard so be it. Still generates a ton of comments when I play….whether its tears or props result is the same.
I have a link to it in the post I referenced
I play LB/GS in SPvP daily and get complains that my build is OP…in fact I made a post a few days back with a screenie from a Warrior. https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/ranger/Had-to-Share/first#post3361397
A build is as good as the strategy behind it and the quality of play . To label a build without taking the time to play it effectively is nothing short of ignorant
Oh right, good old warriors. Have to share my own too then.
Happened yesterday in SPVP, after interrupting warrior’s stomp from downed, downing him in turn (still while downed), interrupting his next stomp after he got back up with vengeance (still while downed), and finally killing him after my chain-on-the-leg pet somehow managed to revive me, mere moments before getting stomped again.
Warrior’s name censored per compliance with forum rules.
Wow lol…kinda nice to inspire these reactions =)
You lied to meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
SPVP =)
what is the build ?
WS 30 (20% Survival/Hide in plain sight/Empathic bond)
NM 10 (Natures protection)-
BM 30 (Faster F2/Cripple on Canines/Natural healing)
Signet of the Wild/Signet of Renewal/Lightning Reflexes
TU and Entangle
GS/LB Sigils of Energy
Wolf/Fern Hound (Fear/Regen)
Runes of the Grove
Soldier Amulet/Cleric Jewel
Very Active with Dodges/Blocks/Knockbacks and stuns
Was this after the patch using the horribly bugged eagle eye trait that gives you fury on every hit?
This was all prepatch
Playing some Hot Join for Daily and held a point vs a trio (2 warrior/Necro) for a solid 2 min while my team mates kittened and after killing two of the three the warrior finally got me and this is what he said = )
Conversation goes on about nice to see a non spirit ranger compete
Anyways brought a smile to my face and seeing how we always getting hate figured I would share some props for a change
Would be nice to see/hear some similar anecdotes as opposed to the typical doom n gloom
Non Spirit Ranger already kick some serious tail, and I’m getting buffed HARD
See you on teh Flip Side
=)

All I play is Ranger small man and solo roaming and I dare say I hold my own vs most…
Several accomplished Rangers on the forums, if you can play a Ranger effectively would it not be easier to play the more synergized classes equally effectively?
I personally choose to play the Ranger because its a challenge…
Xorus, Feax to name a couple are quite kick kitten Rangers…you may well change the negative perspective if you run into one of them ; )
This is a repley back to Fluffy…just because you can kill uplevels and noobs doesn’t make you good. I’d like to see your Ranger run away from a thief who actually knows what he’s doing.
Just Curiosity…
Does Jamoke = Jumoke from DAoC?
FYI I love fighting thieves on my Ranger…ironic you chose a class that has a get out of jail free card as your example…
I haven’t shared a build in a bit but this is how I roll. Mostly Solo, Small man with Guildies. Add 2500 hits and 350 Power for bloodlust/stacks as I’m Rank 343
Sup Tupro =)
/15
A bunker ranger has no defense in WvW, it is easy meat for many classes. It would offer little defense from a perm stealth thief with massive crit , however a trap build might save your bacon in many scenarios.
Uhhh
Rofl…I said the same thing when I read that.
Generated a chuckle here as well =D
I have heard tell that this power/healing build can be done!
0-10-30-0-30 Mix of knights/Soldier and cleric
SoTW – LR – SoR
Runes of speed for the vitality and movement rate, Mango pie-Sharpening stone
Run empathic bond for 4 Condi cleared /10 sec
GS/LB and twin Birds for burst
Power build with 33% crit rate and 20% crit Dam with my Ascended Assassin weapons.
~ 2400 power 33% crit 20% Crit Dam – 3100 Armor – 700 healing and 20K+ Hits, decent condition removal, 3 passive regens
Been on JQ since day one, 90% of my playtime is WvW as I can’t stand PvE.
Can’t get into WvW since Friday reset.
Ridiculous….
As mentioned many times above, the effect of the arrow applies to ALL targets it hits. A knock back arrow lined up properly can knock back as many as are in the arrows path.
Easy Fix for the Pig is once you use the Pigs F2 the generated Item replaces the Pigs F2 until used, expired or pet swapped. Would make the skill seamless and not as clunky.
I could have sworn tail swipe delved for 1400ish, currently I am 30BM and it delves for 500. Either I am delusional, missed a patch note or they nerfed it into oblivion. Could someone please verify which of the above best applies =D
Its driving me nuts as I was almost certain it delved for much higher.
Certainly not the best but I have good fun on my LB/GS Bunker Ranger.
Details:
I run a Hybrid DD Bunker build, static Wolf Pet with Master Bond
Build is here: http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fMUQJARTjAVV2JWCWs2Bi2jJZpzzKoo3D0v+2nyPqwbPA-jUDBYMYoNBigAj+IQJQFRjtCqIasqZAqGY6SJV/KyWzB2gGylQZVKAmUGB-w
Benefits ( I am Rank 235 so I have +100 Power/Condi and +2500 hits, also bloodlust stacks not factored in link)
- 20K hits with stacks
- Barkskin Dam Reduc, kicks in at 5K hits
- 60% static condition reduction (Hoelbrak+Poultry lemongrass)
- Passive SoTW and Pet Regeneration
- Frequent dodges with Energy Sigils/Wilderness endo regen
- 2000 tough/3K armor without a signet
- Passive movement speed 25%
- Stun break (LR)
- 3500 attack with both 2H Weapons
- +550 to all pet stacks with 30BM/Masters Bond (Pet traited with +30 Movement rate)
Works real well in small man guild groups as well as solo play. LB is good fun at keep fights. Handling 1v2 quite well even vs tougher classes.

Fav Move with this build is by far…LB 3 stealth…swap weapons, wolf Fear…enemy exposes back, GS 3 swoop while invisible and GS5 for the stun….all while invisible =D
Works real well in small man guild groups as well as solo play. Handling 1v2 quite well even vs tougher classes.
The Maps changes are cool and dynamic, the buff over the top…have the buff serve a different purpose or do away with it altogether. They got halkittenda right…the maps do allow for nooks and crannies to sidestep larger numbers and a few cool ambush points.
The JQ Sylvari Ranger here….that was waaaaaay too much fun to end that way….
I now feel incomplete, we must finish this!!!!
Where?? When??
<begs>
PS: Love the new maps <3
My Drakehound is Scooby Doom =)
Solo/small man DD ranged
This looks interesting. Well balanced.
I wonder is the crit damage high enough to warrant going DD though?
@OP, the problem with DD crit builds is that there is 3 stats you need to max, ie. power, precision and crit damage. That leaves no stat points for toughness/vit/healing.
Condition dmg on the other hand – you only have to max one offensive stat (condition dmg) and still have two free for survivability. That is why condition builds are the current meta.
With Bloodlust and guard stacks I am hitting over 3500 attack and the damage is pretty good for the defense
Solo/small man DD ranged
I’m having good fun solo/small man with guildies in this =)
My guildies love me and I have some great burst with QZ/WH5/WH4 – Swap – LB2
Decent AE contributions with LB5/Axe1
Decent survival/control, stun break and condition cure and Damage
Its a running total, the last number you see is the TOTAL damage not additive.
So, your second example.
I actually dropped my double bow setup and playing with a Condition/Bomber setup setting the table for our guild groups bombs with Combo Fields/AE attacks
Axe/WH (Solo) Torch (Group) and LBow grouped/SB Solo
Sigh. Even more professions with Stealth. Rangers will have less Stealth uptime than thieves but more than mesmers. Spreading out an annoying game mechanism sure is not welcome in WvW.
Stealth for all – ANet’s answer to profession balance?
Don’t worry, the ranger is still using a longbow, so it won’t be too much trouble to just walk over and kill him after his stealth ends.
Love running into peeps who think like you out there =)
Typically followed by a group invite and someone asking “Whats your build”
On a side note, this patch gonna be fun….
I appreciate having a Dev stop in and comment but based on past experience it is equivalent to giving a starving man a photograph of a Rib Steak
Talk is cheap and though intention may be well meant I will give credit to the Devs if and when concrete, substantial and meaningful change happens and not before.
The more things change the more they remain the same….
Why does any step forward in terms of the Ranger come with 3 steps back?
You do not create build diversity by making the only viable builds not viable so they all are mediocre.
Of late when I run my full heal suit I am vulnerable to HGH Engi, when I run Hoebrak/Lemongrass I handle the Engi fine but not the same sustainability vs multiples.
Still messing with the right balance, have almost 60 laurels in the bank and waiting for the balance patch on the 28th before I plan the next twink..
Have no idea what the warriors spec was, but I did see a great Warrior vid not too long back that seemed really badass, he was using GS and did have a shield on swap in vid..
<3 Cempa dropping in my vids to represent the Power Bunker Plunker =D
glad you liked it!
That’s me, its not Kitten though, its a 4 letter word beginning in G and ending in P but the filter wont let it through =)
all three vids are in my Sig
I prefer Bows in a Direct Damage build, it can work condition with the right Sigils but it lends better to DD build.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/ranger/My-ranger-movie/first#post2012815
Maybe I’d be better in BM bunker or trapper, but I’m far from being not-viable.
I know you can bring the Heat Terkov, just tired of these inaccurate blanket statements about the class….
Um
Signet build with Hoebrak Runes and lemongrass food with SoR for passive removal stun break makes me pretty beasty vs Conditions.
20K Hits, 2200 Tougness, 32XX Armor, 3 Vigor Sources and Energy Sigils (12-15 dodges/minute), protection on Dodge and Barkskin (kicks in at 5K hits) with 2 passive regens (600-700 healing power)
I do not require evades/Blocks from my weapons as I have enough dodging to sustain me without relying on weapons to do it, but snares, stuns and knock back on the bow allows me to keep people off me to allow my regen to sustain me.
I have been double bow from Day 1….you can say many things about my setup but having poor survival and weak to conditions are not among them.
There is a value to being able to apply and keep pressure from Range at all times.
Funny whenever I see an enemy Ranger who doesn’t have a bow they go down fast
Just sayin’
To answer your question, no Bow does not equate to squishy. Falling in love with your DPS tends to equate to squishy.
Simple approach I use is whats the best DPS I can get out of my High Survival setup, and rather than use my pets to set up my DPS I do the inverse. I use my bow skills to set up my Pets superior DPS.
All this to say Archer may not be ideal, but it is viable and fun.
I have rather not good opinion about survi of only-ranged-rangers, but there was some funny builds for lb/sb.
also there are some funny build with melee-only.
and there are phew funny builds with combo melee-ranged
and.. which dungeons are “high end” for You?I thought they all are :/ Ive only done a a couple of dungeons and really don’t want to go in using a WvW or PvP build.
Nah, sadly I see PVE as a means to an end and do not spend much time in dungeons. =(
…build wise that is. I know solo play and WvW and the build I use is 0/10/30/0/30 Cleric+PVT SB+GS/LB…But that is no build to take into high end dungeons.
Can a ranger be all she can be ranged? melee? or need it be both?
Pops in and says “OH HI!”
=)
I will happily take any number of the above changes but despite the limitations I still love my longbow/Short bow combo
I find I am able to contribute in the larger fights in various ways as described above though its not my preferred kind of action.
I tend to solo/small man with guildies for the most part. Killing of Sentry posts, Camps and Yaks. Participating in opportunistic takes or responding to calls for assistance. Cutting reinforcements from getting to the fight. Mostly react on what the current map offers.
When we small man our “strategy” leans toward me drawing attention and trying to get enemies to focus on me due to ridiculous survival while my teammates focus down the guys on me. For the most part is works quite well with a few exceptions =)
