Path of Scars and moment of Clarity can easily hit and surpass that number.
I run offhand Axe
GS/Axe x 2

Hi all,
Any constructive feedback would be appreciated. I’m a Left handed Gamer (Hold the mouse in my Left Hand) so I need an ambidextrous or dedicated left handed mouse.
I have had 2 Razer products which while having all the bells and whistles I want, both showed defects soon after warranty. I will NEVER buy Razer again…
So…suggestions for a high DPI mouse I would prefer 2 buttons PER side as well as two on top as per usual…most important is durability specifically mouse clicking after buttons placement and DPI.
Currently use a SteelSeries HD9 Mousepad, Logitech G15 KB and a Logitech G13 Gamepad in Right Hand….help me find the RIGHT mouse!!
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Kalo
I used to be a pure Archer Ranger, see Sig.
Since changed but I was doing it when it was considered not viable. (2013)
I love Axe 4 and 5 underused IMHO
Reasonable Toughness/Armor/Hits (For Zerk)
Solid Condi removal
Bark Skin
Good protection uptime
Extended Duration on pets Fear and immobilizes
Very Solid DPS/Burst
Very Solid Evade (hence protection)
2 Stun breaks

I <3 ma Ranger O.o
I dare say I have a VERY tough bunker build on my Ranger (regen/Good condi clear/1000+ Toughness with 20K hits/Barkskin/2 stun breaks and near perma Evade lol)…and any more than 3 guys and I start dropping fast….5 enemies, forget it for more than 20-30 seconds. My build DOES provide good burst though timed and I have killed guys with multiples on me but the OP seems a little exaggerated to say the least.
Get it a lot….they don’t get we can bunker with the best of em, they see Ranger and assume easy kill but dont have the sense to break off when it isnt happening…they focus me all the time when with guild and typically gets the enemy killed as I just don’t drop easily.
FWIW, I play ranger ONLY…I am a small scale player with guild/Soloer/Roamer
47 in SPVP and 630 in WvW so somewhat experienced (I don’t Zerg so most is close combat and small scale)
To say Rangers are not viable to me means you do not know the classes strengths and weaknesses….are we great, no…not by any means….but we have a variety of builds that work and work well…maybe we have to work harder for a win but that just makes it more satisfying
I am collecting a montage of screenies that have other SPVPers complaining about my Ranger in Map chat….and no I don’t run spirits or BM…I will link it to sig when done =D
In the current game META Conditions are near out of control and I can basically make a condition immune Ranger…
Anyways, all this to say we have several interesting builds to play with…experiment outside the box and find something that suits your playstyle…but there are viable options there for those that take the time to experiment and test.
Kalo
So to get that right… You’re not even ranked and you’re questioning somebody who played in a top team for months regarding their pvp experience?
And because you can farm backpedaling, keybordturning people with bad gear and weird builds in wvw with a ranger it is viable in higher tpvp?
seems legit
LOL because Ranked means something!!! Besides that point it seems you have it correct….good job! Carry on!

My Build features 3 stun breaks.
2-0-6-6-0
KE – Passive Grants Fury and removes 2 condis when opponent drops to 75% health
SoTF (Survival skills remove 2 conditions, 4 skills if you include Keen Edge)
EB (3 condi removed/10 sec)
EP (Remove blind/poison on Dodge)
Healing Spring 1 condi removed per sec – 10 seconds
Bear (and Wolf for Fear) with SiO (removed 2 condis AE 2 x per min)
SoR (full clear active/ remove 1 per 10 sec Passive
Melandru runes
Sigil of Generosity and Purity
I can stand in vs multiple condition classes and hold a point….they simply cant touch me…
For burst classes 3 stun breaks and good use of dodge (and wolf Fear) all you need to avoid trouble if you are situation aware
Variances in the build can add very solid regen or DPS as you shave off condition removal until you find a solid balance YOU are comfy with…
Sometimes I just run full blown condition removal when enemy teams are all playing condition builds just to generate a WTF =)

I have noticed if you use pets F2 and do not have a target he will try and run to his last target before executing the F2. Always have a target even if its an AE effect and should not require a target
Glad you like Sir….my mentality has always been survival first
I like that its flexible and can easily adapt on the fly
Having a blast in SPVP
GS/Axe-Axe
2-0-6-6-0 (WS/OHT/EB or BS – SoTF/NP/EP)
LR/QZ/SoTW –
Elite: Either Entagle or RaO depending on mood.
Dolyak Runes –
Celestial Amulet
Sigils of Energy/Water
Had 3 on me for 2 mins one match (one a ranger who I stomped twice alone 1v3 after the second down he didn’t come back) defending point and they all kittened I was near invulnerable. Ranger asked for build following match.
I swap EB and BS dependent on other team make-up…heavy conditions I use EB..mostly power based I swap to Bark Skin..
Use Wolf/Brown bear for defensive reasons (Fear/SiO)
(edited by Sarlack.4096)
My current MoC build is all Knights/Cavalier and Assassin…it works very nicely with Power/Bunker builds for the extra toughness.
I ran LB/SB bunker builds for a long while, its viable. See Sig…
I have since moved on to GS/Axe-Axe but I am still refining
Cant help but wonder what this trait would be like with the Eagle/Hawk combo (whistles innocently)
Beast Mastery: Invigorating Bond- Your pet heals in an area when executing command abilities (i.e. your F2 skill now heals in an area)
I’m betting an adjusted CD on their F2 if not traited it would be every 4.5 seconds lol
I run something similar with Technobabble Build
But I tend to have less Power then you, and focus on getting condition damage up to around 1000 or so.
I switched it up eventually and dropped perplexity because i lacked a Stun Break..
ended up going with Traveler’s
Xorus, they could give you a plastic flap jack spatula and you would pwn. =D
I like the build and I’m definitely impressed by the crit damage, it made me double take when I saw the clerics gear before I realised how that happened. I would still rather people use this over bearbow any day if they wish to go full zerk as they can take a hit with this at least. Although the food is expensive. Personally I’d swap the longbow for short bow for a greater dps at close range, although I can see why the longbow was chosen, I just dislike the weapon.
I love the control of the LB/GS….the KB and Stealth shots are pivotal for setting up the big hits or bridging to the next heal, I like that GS provides my AE Cleave in tight and a stealth shot followed by barrage gives me AE ranged. Both have Rupts, a burst skill, an AE option and survival skills.
Once you play with the combo for an extended period you see how nicely they synergize.
I have a non healing variant that (with stacks & Food) I hit the following marks with the same traits/setup…only gear change
3500 Attack
20K hits
3000 Armor
50% crit Rate
100% Crit Damage
and a potential +25% static damage bonuses based on situation
It uses a mix of soldier/Knight…all Cavalier except Zerker Back, runes of the Ranger
0-30-30-10-0
but less sustain.
Here’s the variant: http://tinyurl.com/m3r8qrb
(edited by Sarlack.4096)
Latest iteration of my Quasi Bunker Crit build, good mobility and evasiveness, above average survival for the DPS output. Decent condition clear and stun breaks. VERY nice burst. Hit a Warrior last night for 9883 on maul following a LB3/swap stealth hilt bash prompted an invite and a WTKitten =D
For those that like to try a very active, strategic non condition damage build
With all my ascended the numbers round out very nicely
Edit: I run double stacks in RvR for 2500 more hits and 100 more condition/Power
Also you have play on WS 20 and MM 10 traits
(edited by Sarlack.4096)
You’re not a Ranger if….
You haven’t been to these forums shedding Crocodile tears =)
No dueling, not really my thing. I am trying to negotiate a high protection/glass canon build for my GS/LB build…if it play tests well in SPVP then I will adapt for WvW and try.
Trying to figure out what combination provides highest amount of protection/min. Is better route extending duration or generating more procs…essentially best protection up time without manipulating pets into the scenario.
Obviously WS 15 trait and Nature Magic VI would be in the equation
Also, I do not want food to be an influence. Only traits/spec/runes to generate protection.
…and yes, Ranger has a few issues. Nothing that a couple of tweaks wouldn’t fix. It’s nowhere near as kittenome people think.
THIS ^^^^^^^^^
What about the Runes generating the Protection boon itself? Rather than simply extending the duration.
I am experimenting with various builds and want to try something…
Strictly based on Armor Rune Sets what set would you say would provide the highest uptime on protection. Do not consider boon duration, traits/spec.
If not spec’d/traited and you were wearing nothing but Runes, which set would give you most effective protection up time.
MY guildie, who is an experienced PVP player and has played with me across several games over the last 10 years picked up a Ranger in SPVP a week or two ago.
HE normally Mains a Mesmer, Guardian and a Warrior
Only build knowledge he has is using the bits and pieces he has heard me talking about in Vent.
He played it for several days and promptly proclaimed “Why the hell do all the Rangers cry, this is the most fun I have had on a class”
My response “They are trying to be something they were never meant to be” “Play the class to its strengths”
Fix Pet AI and a few tweaks and we are not so bad off….
My only disappointment comes from Anet’s lack of clear direction for the class, seems like they are making it up as they go along from patch to patch.
Elaborate on "They also have a lot of "pets"" please…
What pet are they running, what weapon set. Obviously bow but which one?
I personally use LB3 (stealth) swap to GS and swoop (while stealthed) to create space, from an outsiders perspective this would likely look like a teleport as one moment your there and after cloaking your 1100 away a second or two later.
Granted, I only goof in HJ for Daily as I prefer WvW, but I play a Ranger non condition non spirit build and I have a folder FULL of Screenies of people either kittening me out for being “OP” or giving me props…just sayin’
Lemme guess, rampage as one and auto-atack to death?
To OP, bad thieves suck good ones destroy the oposition, spirit rangers are good at staying on 1 point and press auto-atack
I don’t run RaO ; ) and if I only AA with GS/LB I would be toast….but nice try.
Now you got me curious, show me pl0x
Raven stays out until I need the Wolf’s fear to clear a point/stomp/relieve pressure.
High Boon duration/Multiple heal sources/Perma Fury if a frequent Weapon Swapper (which I am for the sigils of energy)
Granted, I only goof in HJ for Daily as I prefer WvW, but I play a Ranger non condition non spirit build and I have a folder FULL of Screenies of people either kittening me out for being “OP” or giving me props…just sayin’

In my defense I stand in with Warriors regularly in this.
You can vary the jewel and the pets/MM 10 trait but leave the rest intact.
I get a lot of nice feedback from friends and foes alike. Since there doesn’t seem to be many “viable” builds out there that are for the power Ranger. Anyways, I have shared with guildies and they enjoyed it as much as I do. =)
Highlights: Strong reliable passive/boon regen, high protection up time and Endo regen, Solid Hits/Toughness, Hard hitting pet with good defensive F2s, perma Fury uptime if you swap frequently, 2 Stun breaks (one with fast CD along with Elite) . Great boon uptime overall.
GS/LB weapon very diverse weapon set with a ton of fun combos with swoop/stealth/KB/Block/Stun & Evade on GS AA
Some AE Damage with GS Cleave and LB Barrage. Anyways, something different for those to try. Enjoy! http://tinyurl.com/lm5nwmf
Cheers,
Kalo
I actually play all 8 classes, I’ve helped start multiple metas!
I play terror necro, most every ele spec, d/p s/p and s/d thief mainly. But I tinker around with every class like I said.
That screenshot tho! WP!
Seeing as you play “All” classes in SPVP…what do you run on your Ranger?
Agreed, but on THIS particular occasion they are officially stating that they are bogus
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/balance/RE-Leaked-patch-notes
I do not recall similar statements regarding past leaks…
Still, time will tell…
Yup Manekk,
I will use SPVP as an example but I find better survival with Soldier Amulet and 400-600 healing than Cleric Amulet pushing 700-1000 healing with 4-5K less hits.
For the record, I have messed with HaO using Dwayna runes and extending the duration via the Dwayna Runes duration/traited 33% longer/NM Line and you can almost keep dwayna regen perma up using HaO on the 20 sec RuT

My experience in this game and many others is that layered defenses with redundancy goes far further than stacking any one or two things.
Protection/Vigor/Dodging/Regen/Condition management/defensive abilities on weapons/Passive heals/Hits/Toughness are strong as a layered group
Better to have many of the above defensive abilities at moderate effectiveness than to have a few at high effectiveness at the expense of the others.
Personally I take a defensive build and work outward trying to squeeze out as much offense from a fundamentally defensive build. It has served me well..
Rangers WvW roam fine if you have at least some beefyness, anyone who tells you otherwise has:
A) Not played a Ranger to its strengths
or
B) Failed in their effort and has determined if they can’t do it effectively therefore nobody can
Our only “major” issue is lack of diversity/synergy but that doesn’t mean we are weak just limited.
Find a style that works for you, practice with it, tweak it and go have fun. The more you ask for feedback here the less likely you will want to play the class…..so much negativity in the Ranger community is sickening….
This is the build I run: http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fMAQJATRjAVV2JW+Vo2Bi2DOJJM9eEr13eXB/XwnK-ToAA1CmI8S5lzLjXyusdN+Y9B
Heya Prysin =D
I’m running a 0 Crit 0-0-30-10-30 BM LB/GS (Dogs) build and get daily PMs about how tanky I am….curious if anyone else is doing it as I never see anyone built like me.
I have been enjoying Hot Join for my Daily lately after being pretty much a devoted WvW player.
Still low level at just under 30 but enjoying some pretty good fights.
I often get PMs asking my build as I tend to copy my WvW playstyle/build rather than the current METAs
My question is simple, which Ranger builds do you consider most difficult to fight if any
Not a Troll, seriously would like to know what Ranger builds are considered difficult to fight
Kaloria (SoSG) JQ
i have over one thousand hours of focusing on what we do well, and im telling you that LB is BAD and requires further dev attention. so instead of qq’ing about qq’ing, maybe you should get on the same page and advocate for profession improvements.
I play similar build in PVP (only rank 30) and WVW (rank 467) my Ranger is my ONLY lvl 80 and I manage with it very well, in fact the only weapon I never changed was long bow as I enjoy the dynamic it brings and use it as best I can.
I am working now but can provide both video footage and screen shots when I get home of people kittening about my build in both WvW and PvP….yes kittening that my “Ranger” is in fact OP (no I dont use spirits)
I support many other issues are broken or in need of help such a Pet AI, Condition removal, I simply dont agree that LB is a pressing issue and broken. I have active experience as my reason for this position…
(edited by Sarlack.4096)
Sigh….I still love my LB/GS combo so much utility between the two….movement, stealth, knock back, interrupts and a couple of good burst skills….the AA on both are decent…effectively using stealth shots help GREATLY with using the channeled attacks.
Instead of crying about what we do not have why not focus on making what we do have work for you?
Tons of QQ over the class but I have always felt we are not a bad class, just limited compared to most. Focus on what we do well and go from there….
Barkskin – SoR – Poultry Lemongrass+Melandru is a very powerful combo. More hits in the build the earlier Barkskin kicks in…
I ran a power/Vit build with Barkskin and had 32K hits for kittenz n gigglez and it was nuts vs power based enemies when it kicks in at 8K hits. with smart dodging and natures protection it made for some ridiculous damage reduction and that was before they buffed it to 50%
I ran BS often before the condi meta took over…now its difficult not to take EB even with Melandru+Poultry…now I mostly run the best condition removal I can as it is effect all the time and not when you drop below a threshold.
I do it ALL the time, I have a Post a page back with the build I use to roam LB/GS Power build
I would love it….my visualization
Because risen eat brains, and ranger pets have none
Before I opened the post to read the very same thought crossed my mind.
/Thread!
I think I am personally bound to how I envision the Ranger Woodsman, as stated previously. Anet seems to Want us to invest in our Pet (if only it were more consistent and not mimic the atrocious AI in the PvE environment)
That being said I chose to use a LB and Great Sword…I also chose to invest in my Birds because even if they only serve as a distraction that distraction equates to opportunity. The moment they let there guard down the Birds can hurt them significantly….
All this to say I have tried to the utmost to play the class the way I saw it in my minds eye….always a work in progress but despite its deficiencies when played to its strengths the class is highly competitive.
