Greatsword in all other professions is a viable weapon choice in all game modes.
The necromancer shouldn’t be the only profession with a PvE-specific greatsword.
That’s just making excuses for bad design.
also worth noting that greatsword is the only elite spec weapon that’s considered trash
warhorn and torch are marginal but they do see some use and they are offhand weapons, not 2h weapons
And other problem is you need some speed buff be it swiftness, signet of locust or a rune. Meaning you have to ether give up one utlity slot or the rune slot both are things you dont want to do unless the weapon is worth it but gs in its current state is not good enough for such a sacrifice.
I am not certain if I necessarily agree with your assessment, at least for sig of locust
If you are playing greatsword in its intended role, groupfight sustain, signet of locust is a natural fit. Successful hits on multiple targets grant a lot of health and the signet trait is still one of necros’ strongest traits. Blighter’s boon practically mandates you use Spite for the sake of Might generation
if i were building for quickness greatsword i would never use sig of rage, i would probably use sig of agility, sig of rage simply has pathetic uptime. swiftness from sig of agility is also non-trivial imo and is also helpful when running blighter’s boon

Reality check – the difficulty of the current raids has nothing to do with how well you play your character. It is directly related to how well you copy and paste builds and playstyles from 3rd party websites. That hurts the game, imo, and needs to be fixed. And, the way you fix it is by providing a lesser level of the raid that offers a lesser reward but isn’t as reliant on the broken meta game.
this is one of those posts which is so bizarre that it really is just absolutely confusing and there’s no really good way to respond to it
“raids do not currently require player skill, we should fix this problem by creating a new mode which does not require player skill”
…huh?
Stacking BG means they will be consistently solo-server.
This means that they will consistently lose. Any T1 server which doesn’t have a link partner doesn’t have a snowball’s chance in hell of winning matchups because they cannot accept immigrants during the matchup.
“Best” is completely subjective. “Most challenging” would be more appropriate to describe it as many peeps don’t or wouldn’t agree.
What do you think is the ‘best’ PvE content in the game?
That’s what you don’t get. Dungeon-level difficulty easy mode for casuals would be non-raid repeatable quality content.
that’s not an argument, that’s a contradiction
tackle the reasoning
Don’t get too stuck at the word “raid”.
if you don’t want people to get stuck on words, don’t use them
fwiw raids are 10-player instanced pve content, nothing more, nothing less
Raids are repeatable content, and repeatable content is a staple that keeps any MMO alive. So more quality repeatable content is always good.
But extra difficulty modes are not quality repeatable content.
Raiders don’t want more difficulty levels to raid in. They want more raids.
Non-raiders don’t want watered down raids. They want non-raid content.
(edited by Sarrs.4831)
6. After p.5 – more initiative for developers to make more raids. Growing popularity of content means that investments of development time gives more return and becoming more likely.
That’s bad, though. Those resources come from other places in the game, especially areas which are better designed by their fundamental mechanics to service casual players; open world content and fractals.
How can one be against something that cannot possibly affect him/her is beyond me.
Because they’re looking at more than simple self-interest when they make their arguments?
Karma definitely works, I run that.
part of tier 1 blackgate wvw
bg is tier 2 dude
IMO better solution
Damage increase as the catapult shot is charged; 100% charged shot deals more damage than a point blank tap
Damage increase = the number of extra shots you would get from point blank
Depending on how people feel about it, tune down catapult damage to match
Lets you put your catapult wherever you like and it’ll still be fully effective, people will naturally decide to put their catapults somewhere more sensible than melee
What anet should have taken away from tournaments was a learning experience. Just abandoning is a failure on their part. They probably looked at it as an issue or problematic. Instead they should have used it as a learning experience and maybe made the tourney shorter and not put so many achievement hunting on it.
Or ya know, listen to your players or your customers as they call it.
Personally I’m taking the current worldlink duration as though it’s a tournament. I mean why not? It’s a fixed and relatively short period of time. Just rack up as many wins in the 8 week season as you can. Ta-da it’s a tournament.
It’s better for support and weaker for sustain.
Yeah, extra protection uptime from Concentration totally gives you worse sustain. :x
The way you worded that sounds like you think I want the current form to cease existing, but I don’t remember giving you reason for that. A minority is raiding, which is known, and I only aim to change that.
If I’m going to make an argument that multimodal raiding would change raiding then I would come at it from the point that most people in the thread don’t really know what they’re doing when they suggest this sorta thing. It might look simple but most people both underestimate the direct amount of work required and the fundamental change in game direction that comes along with such a change.
This second point you present ties into that. Trying to get the majority of people to raid is a fool’s errand. Most activities in the game should be enjoyed by a minority. A minority of players regularly run dungeons. A minority of players regularly run fractals. A minority of players compete in sPvP and WvW. There’s a very short list of activities which should be enjoyed by ‘the majority’ and for the most part that’s open world PvE and Living Story.
What matters is making sure that the door’s open to people who want to raid. And for the most part, it is. ANet are making efforts to open that door wider by equalizing material prices through Bloodstone Fen.
Something is preventing people from doing the content, I can’t give you proof what, and I only could talk in the name of the people I spoke with, and yes, most of the issues would be resolved with an alternate version.
If you can’t present proof and the people you spoke with can’t present proof then there’s no argument here.
Also if there are no drastic issues preventing people from getting into raiding, be my guest and explain why they don’t
It’s personal choice.
I could do the raids if I wanted to.
I could clock them in a day, I’ve got all the gear, I’ve got the raid awareness. I might need to brush up on D/H Ele since my gear’s Power, but I doubt that’ll be hard, and I’d need to review the fights.
But I don’t, because I don’t want to, because I have other priorities in the game right now.
http://www.strawpoll.me/10553512/r
(Sidenote, this poll was created about 7 month after the first wing released on reddit, meaning people who wanted to raid had plenty of time to adapt, yet they didn’t)
Blatant misinterpretation of the data. There is no reason to assume that they have been trying to adapt for 7 months.
Also the positive respondents (36%) and your target group (38%) are within the margin of error. Roughly half of the people who want to raid have tried and reached some measure of success. That’s pretty good.
The quick fix to the removal of Cleric amulet would be this:
Templar Amulet:
+1050 power
+1050 healing power
+ 560 Toughness
+ 560 ConcentrationThis would bring all support build viable again.
We would, and should, never see this spread because Concentration is considered a defensive stat. This isn’t just on par with Cleric’s, it’s blatantly better.
There are people who adapted a playstyle over 3 years of playing GW2, and that playstyle doesn’t fit into raiding. If they refuse or can’t change they will be excluded from all future end-game content , which I don’t want. All I want is a more forgiving mode that allows participation of those who currently can’t.
i could refuse to do any number of things in the game but it’s not reasonable for me to expect anet to adjust that content to cater to me. raids are no different
you have to prove that something is preventing people from adapting to the content and broadly speaking there are no drastic issues which are doing that
Yeah I would figure if you’re having that much of an issue, and they’re that prevalent, you’d just run necros/reapers with huge trait emphasis towards boonstrip- since they have great condition application anyway, you’re killing two birds with one stone.
I think Durability should receive the same nerf that Pack runes did- increase the ICD from 20 to 30. That should be a pretty drastic cut to this problem. Durability runes are a problem rune, we know this, they removed them from spvp for a reason and now tons of large group players and roamers are using them- they are popular because they are incredibly powerful.
Clerics is unlikely to be OP on tempests by now. What we lose are all non-meta support/bunkers that relied on it.
Can they not use Mender’s?…
DB+IOJ has been in T1 for… I want to say 4 weeks. For that entire time, IoJ has had 500 gem immigrants and TC and BG have been closed. That’s the kind of advantage which, over the course of the matchup, will result in overbearing population power for DB+IoJ. I would not be surprised to see JQ+AR enjoy the same advantage, with immigrants heading to AR, and remain in T1; they are within takeover range of TC’s score at the moment. It’s possible we’ll even see a T1 entirely comprised of linked servers because of this advantage.
Consider the opposite; YB. YB was a T1 server which only lasted a single week in the current link set and over the course of the month has descended into T3, into a match which they are losing. I have to seriously wonder where those YB players went to cause such a catastrophic decline; I would not be surprised if they went to IoJ.
Another point of interest is that BG has recently had its transfers opened. Is this because BG’s population has naturally declined, and thus players have moved out? Is this because of the usual hibergate rar rar? I think it’s worth considering that players who have seen how these systems will work have moved to IoJ, AR or JQ, and the resulting population loss is what has created the opening.
I do think that linked servers have ultimately resulted, or at least been a major factor, in the current state of T1. I do not necessarily think this is an indictment of the system, though; the changes in populations are a growing pain, not a permanent issue, and the problem will relieve itself once players rearrange appropriately. We saw a relatively stable first set of links, when every server was linked with a single second server- I do not think there is any reason that stability could not be achieved again with the same model.
Also generates poison and whirl finishers which adds value, and has a higher target cap. But yeah, necro power values are weird across the board.
Blast on Axe 3 would be great. Would also help Spiteful Spirit be a better pick.

After reaching it in S2 & S3, i’m going to reach Legendary on my Guardian again in S4. Then i’ll play DH on my gf’s account and hit Legendary on that Amber class as she has never been into pvp before. (Proving mmr hell doesn’t exist)
This is going to be the best Season yet but i’m sure their will be many complaints from non-competitive casuals.
You keep us posted! If you stream, it might actually be fun to see your push from null MMR to Legend.
People voted for the linking, they voted for the frequency of re-linking. They didn’t vote to have T1 servers unlinked and to have a 7th place server without help and a 1st place server with help. I just want to play on an even field.
leave the full server, that’s how they arrange their links. a full server will never be linked with a second server.
Hi I’m on BG
There is no fun in not playing a game right now in order to win at a future date. People are not showing up because nothing to do. The level of historic salt and conspiracy theories aimed at BG is funny.
hi on bg
i’m dad
Will bg be making its triumphant comeback when desert borderlands is returned to the game? No sarcasms, genuinely curious.
Whats the fun in not playing for a few weeks so you can outstack the other servers in the current game?
i dunno why you’re asking me, i don’t play on bg
there isn’t a set thing where all of bg says “Lets not show up so we can open up” bg literally just gets…bored..
I’ve heard BG players explicitly say that they drop their participation so they can juke the player population count.
When the queues on reset only got as high as 6 on the borderlands, then you have to question how ‘full’ bg actually is.
When every second BG who comes to the forums says that the only reason they’re losing is because they’re ‘on a break’ and they have been saying that since before the first season, I see no reason not to take them at their word.
Huh? You want server links to be adjusted every single week? That completely defeats the point.
For better or worse this was an expected consequence of linked servers. Population naturally bleeds out of the servers which are full (TC, BG, YB) and into non-full servers. I’ve been tossing up moving to Kaineng simply because TC is full.
At the end of the day I don’t really care about BG dropping into T2. What I’m more interested in is whether, by the end of the season, T1 will be entirely comprised of linked servers. If guilds are able to move into T1 because of linked servers, it’ll ultimately be a more lively scene.
All I’ve seen from you BG guys in the forums lately is “Bg isn’t playing right now, we on break mode”. Don’t question the ppt.
That’s more or less exactly what I expect from BG. Frankly, I wouldn’t be surprised if ANet has explicitly restructured the server pop status to bias against BG to protect the game against their ‘breaks’.
Add a trait to change all guardian light fields into fire fields.
I think that would be a really good option but I would expect it to probably come with an elite spec rather than be tied into one of the current specs. Then again it could probably go nicely with the Zeal GM trait.
Was this an oversight by ANet? How long has this been an issue?
As long as guardian builds have been reliant on Symbols to do their maximum DPS/use Virtues line. It’s not as bad for non-hammer weapons but it still sucks.
These threads have previously earnt at least one note from the community managers that they’re passing it on to the devs.
(edited by Sarrs.4831)
Do we really want a 900 range hitscan weapon to be an extremely strong contender for raw damage? There is a reason it’s tuned as low as it is.
How about this for a WvW Enrichment
Make +XP work on WXP
Seems kinda obvious :x
So I don’t know about all the specifics on which builds and which weapons do top dps but
Why not just not use the Symbol button
Just use a sword and never press the 2 button since I don’t think it was good for DPS anyway
Use a greatsword and never press 4
Use a longbow and never press 4
What you miss is experiencing the beginning of the story – the introduction of the antagonists and primary conflict. It is bad form from a narrative perspective.
You don’t.
The primary antagonists in the story are Caudecus and Lazarus the Dire.
The first is introduced in Human Personal Story stages and Caudecus's Manor. The second is introduced in GW1.
Every ‘antagonist’ introduced in the raid ends up dead.
i don’t see why personally defending the camp is not an option
if it’s important, devote people to it
People play Dire? I thought they were using Trailblazer’s now.
If it’s really an issue, deleting Dire isn’t the solution. Add PvE/WvW only runes that increase your condi clearing to counteract the additional condi pressure that runes like Perplexity add.
(edited by Sarrs.4831)
Is this a competition for the longest post? Have any of you hit the cap and had to shorten these?
i have, before i dropped back to making short, jocular posts
On the one hand yeah sure.
On the other hand this means ANet devs would have to tag down whenever they play WvW and really I’d prefer to keep ganking them.
adjust katapult splashdamage: split the damage of katapults into 50% from te projectile and additional 50% from splashdamage. This way there would be an reason to actually hit the wall directly intstead of just using the splah. This would additionaly nerf sneaky katapult positions.
Something that I was actually thinking about the other day; add extra damage to charged catapult shots so you don’t feel like so much of a boob when you plant it further than melee range for no good reason.
You cannot reward the matchup winner unless the matchup is equal. The upcoming scoring changes will help a little, but won’t change the population imbalances. The team with double the number of players than other teams will always win the matchup.
Could set it up so that the stuff you get from winning isn’t important rewards. It’s just stuff like extra crafting materials, rares, gold, etc.
Look, if you have actual fresh ideas of how to advance this topic
facts
those would be muy excellente
I am not seeking your approval here, so what makes you think that I would be?
I’m trying to have a constructive discussion about the path forward.
that, for starters
not exactly constructive to dismiss peoples’ opinions by saying nobody cares about them
i mean if i came in and just posted “nobody cares what you think ohoni” that wouldn’t exactly be conducive to a constructive discussion about the path forward, would it?
no, and who cares about that
ermmm
well you have quite a few people disagreeing with you here
You said “don’t like,” I said "mildly allergic, because your version failed to represent an actual problem with the content beyond simple distaste.
well yeh
because there isn’t an actual problem with the content beyond simple distaste
Whether you like the raids or not, the fact remains that it puts a burden on people’s time and skill sets that other content does not.
so raids are like
rock biscuits?
just don’t eat the rock biscuit
You can eat a cookie that you’re mildly allergic to, but it is a far more unpleasant and inconvenient experience than merely not being your favorite flavor.
or you can just not eat the biscuit idk i’m not a surgeon
But let’s roll with it. Let’s say you’re right, let’s say that one of the six cookies handed out was a peanut butter cookie, and one of the children was mildly allergic to peanut butter.
did not say that
said you don’t like the raid cookie
didn’t say you were allergic to it
