No, I don’t want to have an MM weapon for MM’s sake.

At the moment MM is viable with every weapon.
If you have an MM weapon, you will be balanced around using the MM weapon. You’ll be forced to use it and you’ll have less options for how to play MM.

1. Make Rewards be SKINS not actual ITEMS so PVE’ers who dont care about PVP will not be so tempted.

This isn’t really that big of an issue. PvE’ers (competent ones, at least) aren’t targeting the PvP backpiece for the stats, as they already have Ad Infinitum available to them.

2. Remove the multi class profession achievements.
3. Remove Tier and division safety nets.

But yeah those would be pretty good.

Oh so noticeable, you turn purple and point just like every other Mesmer skill.

The animation is not very distinct but you can track the mesmer’s boon bar and if Moa falls off, they’ve either cast it or are casting it.

It can be difficult to spot, but if you do spot it and successfully dodge it, the mesmer can be put at a significant disadvantage

I would say pips suck because literally half the divisions are assured progress. If you put in enough time you will get to Ruby.

Should be toned back to only Amber having assured tiers, and not having assured pips. All other divisions have no more safe checkpoints beyond actually advancing beyond the division.

Those saying the old maps are better usually have a point and explain why they’re better.
Why do you think the DBL is a better wvw map than EB or ABL?

I don’t know if I think DBL is a better WvW map than EBG or ABL. I haven’t done the legwork involved to know for sure.

I personally prefer it because it favors small group play because
-Shrines give solo/small team roamers something to do that will contribute to larger groups
-the size of the map means that small team fights are of greater consequence
-coordinated small teams can better outmaneuver blobs
-there is a higher level of technical ability in understanding how you can move around the map (including in respect to shrines, haybales, fall distances)

I ultimately don’t think any arguments that revolve around whether DBL is better or “worse” really make any sense because the variation is so small that it doesn’t have that much of an impact. It doesn’t need to be as good a map so long as it conforms to a baseline level.

I do think that earlier, while barricades were still in the game, that the map was unnecessarily obnoxious and in that state of the map I would not have drastically minded removing it from rotation entirely- but it was changed, and the map still can be changed.

Attacking and defending are not made impossible by how the map is set up; not any more than attacking or defending are made impossible by how ABL and EBG are set up.

You can’t defend fire keep against catapults set up on the north end. The static siege in earthkeep tries to destroy itself, you can’t get catas out at air keep as the range of the acs doesn’t match and so on. Tell me where exactly I’m wrong.

Against catapults set up on the ridge next to the camp, on the plateau near the shrine or right next to the wall? The last two can be dealt with. The ridge is difficult but it’s far from impossible, and that’s why you have inner; Fire’s inner is probably the hardest point to attack IMO.

Static siege in Earth keep trying to destroy itself sounds like a bug. You should get more details on that and make a report.

“You can’t get catas out at air keep”, what does this mean? That the good catapult positions on the staircases are difficult to attack? On the spot on inner which is about 10 meters beneath where the actual wall is?

Strategic: I want to keep green keep, therefore I have to defend Jerri and Aldons, otherwise attackers might have an easy cap.
I want to keep WC and Klov, so I better get SM or at least make sure they can’t attack these towers – that goes for every colour. I’m still not happy about red keep and SM and also not so happy about the recent changes made to the walls of WC and Jerri.

So it’s about objective interdependency, and you don’t think DBL has much if any objective interdependency. I don’t really think that objective interdependency is that important and that it’s an interesting point of divergence for a map but to each their own. To say that means that DBL involves no strategic element because of this, though, seems far-fetched.

Of course it is, so? Am I required to bow and nod because some PvE players want their karma train?

You have a point, but I ragequit when I force myself to be on the DBL – so maybe you don’t have a point and this map would be better suited as an adon for EotM.

So you recognize that there’s a distinction between your personal preference and whether the map is objectively suited to be a WvW map or not.

I personally don’t enjoy EBG at all but I do think that it is, objectively, suitable to be a WvW map. I see all these people coming and bashing on the DBL, and besides the number of people doing it, they’ve about all the weight behind them that I would have if I came in and said “delete EBG it is bad for WvW”.

You can have an ele getting it out or use field siege – it’s not impossible but that’s one of the reasons why the pre HoT maps are better. Not really sure what your point in this case is though.

Those positions are some of the strongest places to have your siege in WvW. That’s not necessarily good or bad, that’s strategic variation, but to make the assertion that DBL offensives are as easy or easier to defeat than ABL offensives from superior locations does not seem accurate to me.

Same with this: What is your point?

You said that attacking or defending objectives is impossible because of how the map is set up. This is incorrect.

This is no argument, and I mean that in the strictest terms. You haven’t provided any definition for strategic, and you haven’t provided any of the qualities that would suggest it is strategic or non-strategic.

b) has got a lot of “bugs” which makes defending sometimes really hard/impossible.

Are you reporting these bugs?
Why is this in quotation marks? Are they actual bugs or just map quirks?

I’d be fine if we had 2 months of all alpine BLs followed by 2 weeks of all DBLs or something like that.

And still I would ragequit but at least that would be fair.

This simply all seems like personal preference which you’re trying to dress up with an objective argument, to get what you want at the cost of what other people want (and voted for, on two separate occasions, with majorities).

Yes, actually that would be useful. This reminds me of that revenant trait that increases your crit chance dramatically during combat – I was fighting with the hero panel open so I could see the crit chance changing, but having it as a buff counter would have made that so much easier.

This seems like a trait that should have a specific buff counter to help you keep track of what your crit rate is.

First point “if there’s noone to defend or attack” yes there are people there who are able to defend or attack. Whether they’re willing depends on how willing they are to win the match. This also assumes that DBL preferences are not broadly uniform which is not a fair conclusion; if you have any evidence that supports the assertion that DBL+2ABL+EBG is having a significant impact on scoring compared to 3ABL+EBG, especially with variations based on individual servers (it stands to reason that some servers have more DBL-ready players, and some have less) I would love to see it.

Second point is simply untrue, and it’s frankly more true of EBG and ABL than it is of DBL.
-Indefensible objectives are far more prevalent on EBG and ABL because you can often protect your siege using your own objectives. Case in point, Hills trebbing SET is extremely difficult to stop with anything other than numerical superiority being used to knock down the treb.
-All DBL objectives are larger and are therefore less defensible by massed siege. The only exception to this in my experience is Fire Inner.

Minions, I wouldn’t expect to see more of.

Things like Spirits, or maybe even Spirit Weapons, I wouldn’t mind seeing.

Definitely , I would love to have minions skins. Regarding having new minions , the only option would be through adding a new 2 handed weapon ( hammer ) that has 4 summoning skills.

Please don’t add a mandatory MM weapon, that’s a really bad idea.

Not really, just the reality of the situation, WvW since HoT has not been a success, now I am sure that is not all down to the DBL, there are many factors, point is claiming some hopelessly flawed poll is representative of what the “WvW community” wanted in this game is laughable when so much of the WvW community has left the game in that time before the poll was made.

So it’s a pretty basic tautological problem you’ve got here. You’re assuming that someone who has completely cut ties with the game such that they are paying no attention to any of their news releases or even the emails that ANet are sending them can still be considered a member of the ‘WvW community’.

Like seriously. Are these people friends of yours? Tell them to come to the forums and post. Don’t speak for them.

There is a reason WvW is down to server merges and probably the least healthy state it has ever been in, and isn’t because they provided what the community wanted.

Considering they aren’t server merges and they’ve explicitly stated what the intent of world linking is- to provide you with more variation in opponents and allies- this statement seems bizarre.

If you have so little faith in ANet, it begs the question of why you’re even here. Lazy emotional arguments aren’t going to win you much progress with anyone.

I have been paying attention to this conversation since this set of WvW beta features began.

If players stopped playing the game after HoT and the DBL, then they weren’t here to vote 7 months later, hence the poll is a self selecting sample, then when you add troll votes from PvE players, the effect of threats there would be no more maps if DBL got voted out, etc, well.

That is an excellent theory.

Furthermore it also looks pretty moronic when people defend it on that basis, we are talking a game mode that absolutely hemorrhaged players after HoT to the point you’ve had what are effectively server merges, and still the game (at least on EU) is far less active (comparing gold league), especially outside primeitime, even after those merges, so people standing their with their pants down saying ’look this is what the community wanted", just come across as ridiculous given the state WvW deteriorated to.

There’s something really moronic that’s also going on here; a lot of people are speaking for people who are perfectly capable of speaking for themselves.

If DBL returning were such an issue, they would speak about it, they would’ve voted on the polls. Emails were sent out detailing them.

But no, people are really happy to just make assertions and then, when contradicted by direct polling data, claim that the people polled “are not the real wvw population”.

I think this is a very curious idea but I don’t think it would be a good one. I do think that participation bars were set too low, though- having a good rank across all seasons should be required, or an excellent rank in most. I don’t mind the idea of needing to get Legendary in one season, though, I think that makes a lot of sense- Legendary backpiece, need to get legendary rank, it fits.

It’s difficult to really say in either direction because of how the pip system has been considered internally to not have done its job, and that ANet is planning a major revision of the systems at hand with that in mind. I am very curious what they have in mind for the next set of seasons and the next backpiece.

I really think it’s a shame that the wings aren’t really that prestigious or intimidating, because they should be. If you see someone with wings, you should know you’re in for a fight. That the bar was set so low, and with very few ‘skill’ requirements, undermined that.

I would like to see another backpiece. I don’t know about wings, but I’d like it to have much steeper requirements and for it to be something to work towards for the entirety of the year.

A big issue with The Ascension, at least for me, was that there wasn’t anything to work towards for seasons 3 and 4. If league tickets bought something good that might fix it- I suggested adding Black Lion Keys to tickets and I wasn’t joking, that’s the sort of huge item that grabs peoples’ attention.

Nobody fight for bloodlust for the stats tho. Your proposal still keep the scoring imbalance people are complaining about.

when we voted in the DBL we already decided that we don’t care about scoring imbalances of that size
and there’s no mistaking it, the scoring influence of Bloodlust is very similar to the scoring influence of the different yak layout on DBL
any scoring concerns are slated to become toast when the new scoring system is implemented anyway, modern scoring concerns will make very little sense once the new system comes through

If you were a pve’er asking for a free ( or easy) Gift of Battle, wvw’ers would answer you :" work for it". I think it’s the same with Fractals specific gear ( in this case infusion slots).
It’s not that hard, especialy now with the golem selling the mats to infuse/attune your rings. No more RNG. You should give it a try.

stat infusions do provide meaningful stat advantages, therefore the extra slots should be obtainable

Ok, how can it not be a feature and have all things equal with scoring? I don’t get that.

The inclusion of DBL at all implies that scoring will not be equal- yak patterns are very different on DBL, tending to be longer.

ANet probably has internal data on just how much Bloodlust is directly contributing to score and it’s probably in the field of 20k points all up by the end of the week, split across the three servers. If Bloodlust is a strategic asset then people will fight for it; there is ultimately little difference between having 2 and 3 bloodlusts, as the two best servers will have the two bloodlusts. Previously, it primarily served a denial role, rather than having actual value in and of itself.

If the stats are deemed unfair then ANet can remove or reduce the stats, or add a similar stat stick to DBL.

I am inclined to agree with Helseth especially when he speaks about there being what seems to be a massive divide between the ‘casual’ playerbase and the tournament level players. Legendary division does not mean much, Legendary backpiece means nothing.

I don’t know how I would go about fixing this but I think a major redesign for how you obtain the Legendary backpiece so they can make divisions matter is something that’s definitely on the cards. There’s talk of the Starcraft system on this thread and Helseth spoke about the Hearthstone system and I think they’re definitely worth comparing to the standing Division model.

Just make Screenshot of Eternal Battleground QUEUE now and make one after 1 week.

The queue at top tier server will reach the 100+ man at primetime like it was before removal of DBL.

Top tier servers already strugle to fit all their guilds in alphine borders now with the removal of 1 of them they will have to fit even more guilds into 2 alphine maps.

I would prefer another tower or something in the center. Hell they might even fix the map if they place it so it can hit both southern towers and at least outer east/west keep.

And yes not being able to counter siege is a problem when the supposed weakest server is being stuck with the bl. A determined zerg will eventually make it into any keep but it requires a lot of work in alpine since you can counter siege and slow them down. In the dbl the zerg just has to hit certain points and they will roll right over the smaller force.

I know for a fact you can cata both outer and inner on earth keep, and on the other 2 there are cata spots that can’t be counter sieged.

Cat or treb? I know there’s the treb spot near north camp which can hit both outer and inner

Not being able to be hit by countersiege is fine as that’s not really the point, the outer walls on all keeps are almost always speedbumps anyway so it doesn’t matter so long as they can’t push into lord on one wall

Also the oasis event was disabled long before the bl went away because it was a kitten gimmicky mechanic that favored the strongest server and literally broke the game by causing massive amounts of people to crash.

It was only disabled because it caused massive lag
Only having the event run on a single borderlands opposed to multiple may help with both of these issues

Is the Oasis event restored or is it being replaced with a Bloodlust effect?

Just a random question: Why the red map?

Red team is the team that needs the positive handicap and Desert is easier to defend than Alpine.

Here are some reasons

1. Bigger objectives mandate more resources spent to attack. There are no points at which a catapult can hit both outer and inner walls, for instance, while all ABL maps have this.
2. Yakfarming in the south end of the map is far less profitable because yaks take longer to arrive. Giving Red (the unfavored team) the DBL means that they are the only server with 2 alpine quarters to yakfarm on, while Green and Blue can yakfarm only on one another’s BL.
3. More northern yaks. More northern yaks is more points. This is both because there are four yaks spawning out of north camp rather than 2 and because NWC and NEC hit NWT and NET before going to Garrison.
4. Less interdependent objectives make defense easier. This goes both ways but is generally in favor of the defending team.
5. Oasis event heavily favors the defending team especially if they have a T3 garrison. Much shorter travel time when you can head straight from your garri into the event.

Literally anything will ‘solve’ Unload thieves.

Block, dodge, reflect, evasion, high healthpool, interrupts, line of sight, boon corruption.

They are a one trick pony which depend on you not being aware of them until they’ve started firing.

Swapping those two trait is not a good idea. Soul comprehension is a useless trait no matter where it is. On-death traits are always a bad idea (hence why all other on-death traits were removed) unless it would be something like the stack sigils (e.g. bloodlust etc.) though they have limited use in spvp (for WvW or pve they are amazing).

i know, i am not suggesting that they trade places, i am saying that Soul Comprehension is one of the worst passive traits in the game and Last Gasp is one of the best passive traits in the game and each tree is let down and carried by each trait respectively

if i were to do anything with Soul Comprehension i would consider turning it into something that directly grants LF. something along the lines of “gain 3% LF every 3 seconds” would be a fairly strong trait and would give the traitline’s Death Shroud traits some meat

Corrupter’s fervor is something power necros need now more than ever with this condition meta and it should have easier access than having to take an obscure trait line just to get it.

this argument ultimately ends with “death magic should just be deleted”

we have bunkery lines for a reason, death magic is one of those bunkery lines, it should actually be a suitable bunkery line rather than an automatic passover for soul reaping because you’ve taken one of its strongest traits

like really, just replace soul comprehension with something that isn’t absolute trash and it’ll be a good line. if you swapped the positions of last gasp and soul comprehension everyone running soul reaping would switch to death magic overnight

Playing D/D hybrid is about the worst you can play it.

the most successful DD builds i see in pvp/wvw are the condi/hybrid permadodge builds. playing it as a power build just means you’re underpar compared to staff and dp, imo, because you don’t bring either the utility and extra stickiness of dp or the extra defense and burst of staff

prior to daredevil if you were playing DD in any capacity in pvp/wvw you were plainly doing it wrong, core thief didn’t have the support for DD at the time then

When you play D/D power thief for four years and accomplish amazing feats on it, moving to a real profession like the reaper is refreshing due to its relatively insane difference/superior in capabilities across the board.

dd thief is a hybrid set, not a power set, tho

‘power necro is better than an incorrectly used weak set on a different class’ power reaper really raking in the high marks

The whole fight needs to be reworked there is too much running and then you do a burn for 5-10% unless you’re all ranged players.

so i haven’t done new swamp but
it rewards playing a ranged weapon?

Maybe Axe could be buffed by buffing focus or offhand dagger. (Warhorn doesn’t have much synergy with axe since it isn’t ranged).

how precisely would you recommend buffing those weapons to make Axe better?

there are few synergies that are specific to Axe.

Focus 4 naturally works better with Dagger than it does Axe due to bouncing in melee. Focus 5 has no strong preference one way or the other.
dagger has a stronger, and weaker, case. while it shares range with Axe it does not really share any other synergies. dagger is condition focused while axe is power focused, enough said

rebalancing based on the offhand has issues with balancing around dagger and scepter MH so i am skeptical of that being a viable strategy. any balance changes should ultimately be based in the axe and just the axe; it is the weak link in A/F, A/W and A/D. (assuming that there is an issue, of course)

It would be interesting, but it might affect the door>wall problem that already exists. It is faster to attack the gate, if this is implemented, then it is even better to attack gates over walls. Also I am not sure if there really will be a choice of the commander afterwards or if outside ac-reach will be the new “meta” of positioning in most cases.

I think point-black catas aren’t really a problem atm. Friendly fire and other silly ideas that break most combat situations (like having more than one ram on a gate or a golem in your zerg) are funny to think about but probably not the right thing for a game that takes itself seriously. Maybe fun for a few days, but too much work for the result.

I personally don’t really mind point-blank catapults but if they are an issue it’s a better way to solve the problem. It doesn’t kill pb catapult, you can still do it, there’s just better incentive to planting it at distance.

The issue I see is you can still do 100% charge right against the wall.

But there’d be no point to doing 100% charge while pointblanking.

The problem with catapults, as it stands, is that because of the recharge time on the shot you get better DPS by shooting from melee. That’s all that needs to be fixed.

So there was no meat on the OP so I’ll go with this one.

How many classes actually have overwhelming passives? Most of the time they have a relatively limited pool. Can we have a specific example of which builds have ‘overwhelming passives’?

But build diversity was at its highest point in the previous patch with 8 builds considered to be Meta quality.

-elementalist pretty much getting deleted from PvP as it has no other build options

This is a reaction after two weeks. It is difficult to take this complaint seriously with such a short timeframe.

-condi spam faceroll chronomancer

If condi spam is an issue why not run more condi clears?

-Reapers that can put insane condi damage while still being a tanky hp pool.

But the tanky hp pool doesn’t save them against their counters.

Then why not +1 them? They aren’t exactly the zippiest class.

And they did a big stack of buffs to the other pets in the last patch.

Defensive thief builds run out of fuel if you know how to play against them and you don’t feed them initiative/vigor by spamming attacks at them while they dodge.

-condi warrior with insane condi damage and passives and regen for days

Warriors are dependent on a specific set of cooldowns, and they are reliant on boons. Corrupt or steal their boons to defeat them.

-dps DH trapper with heals and blocks like a bunker

DPS DH has a specific series of defensive cooldowns and if you can survive their cooldowns they will quickly run out of immunity windows and you can blow them up when their defenses are down. They are also very vulnerable to boonflip, especially unblockable Corrupt Boon, and any effect that grants Unblockable.

-Revenants with evades and blocks on almost everything.

Again, specific windows to their evades and blocks. It’s gonna get really boring just constantly saying that you should learn when their vulnerable windows are… But you should learn when their vulnerable windows are.

It’s a fairly slow chain and is often beaten by cover conditions. There is no particularly strong reason to remove the corruption from Scepter 1-3.

If it were strong, then Necro would not be bottom of the meta-tier barrel.

if the gear requirement is what’s keeping you from being successful in raids… no, sorry, i don’t really see it, unless you’re putting out absolutely no effort

the barrier to obtaining a suitable set of Exotic gear for raiding is trivial, you can buy an appropriate set of Zerker’s gear for karma or badges of honor or not a heck of a lot of gold. completely reasonable; the first wing of the raid (and usually considered the one with the hardest DPS checks) was cleared in exotics half a year ago

you can also push multiple other means to get great entry level armor and weapons for raiding, including collections for ascended weapon/armor boxes and your elite specialization weapons

and gearing has gotten drastically easier in the last patch between two major changes; the pricing for optimal infusions has drastically dropped, allowing you to build perfect gear with much less effort, and bloodstone fen introduces materials across the board to deflate the prices of a lot of ascended materials

even if it is the case that gearing is too hard and is presenting a barrier to raiding, that isn’t an argument for easy mode raids; that’s an argument for more abundant materials. i’d be far more receptive to a nerf to the materials required for Gossamer Patches than i would be to easy raids, which imo is the biggest real blocker to gearing in the current state of the game
