I think the current system for ranked is pretty good. Protects solo players and also protects classes which are dependent on support to have an effect on the game (necro) without creating too much domination by large premade groups.

I think ingame tournaments which ask for full teams could be fun but would require more work- specifically, live viewing ingame. Maybe with a delay of some kind to prevent abuse. I think being able to watch high-level players in actual play, in-game without needing to use outside resources, could be a good way to help people up their game.

This really just doesn’t make any sense. The other team is more than likely to be composed of players that are on the same level as your ‘clueless’ team. If you have a clue- whether that’s a silver-level clue, a gold-level clue, a platinum-level clue or a legendary-level clue, you will make a decisive difference.

An AC tonic would be much simpler and better. Transform the player into an mobile AC, replace the weapon skills with normal AC skills and the utility skills with shield gen skills.

I think it could be interesting if you could build a ‘super’ banner for your guild to use when you want to go out and do something structured. Very expensive consumable but gives you a massive buff to a certain activity, and not necessarily just a banner for WvW.

Visual clutter and the sheer amount of different conditions- condi clear skills can’t keep up.

Visual clutter is subjective and in a small-team format is rarely relevant. Are you unable to identify specific conditions at a glance? You do not necessarily need to identify every aspect of a condi bomb in order to identify it and use your own counters. More often than not, the conditions that you can expect to face are very straightforward from having a loose understanding of your opponent’s abilities, and an understanding of what can be sent back to you or which boons can be flipped on you.

Condi clear skills being unable to keep up is by design. You should need to build specifically to counter conditions in a 1v1 fight because fights need to actually end. Condi spread from multiple condition users is also by design; just as more conditions from different enemies come in you have more condition clears coming in from your own friends.

If excessive condi coverage is an issue then it is far less work to address condition clearing skills rather than reworking the system.

The impetus is very simple and stated directly in the OP: this game suffers from Boon/Condition bloat and spam. There are many effects that are either needless, redundant, or could be much better done. Myself and many others have made suggestions as to how the bloat and spam could be trimmed for the health of the game.

Yes but how does it suffer. On a play-to-play basis, what precisely about the amount of conditions and boons is making the game difficult, unfun, confusing or unhealthy?

Well, right now its kind of redundant since its no different from burning. But if burning were to be given a secondary effect, then Bleeding would have a place as the pure DoT condition (or vice versa)

Worth noting that while the conditions are on their face very similar, they do have many subtle mechanical interactions that cause them to function differently. Things like specific condition duration, defensive traits like Stop Drop and Roll, offensive traits like Blinding Ashes do give these conditions meaningful distinctions.

You’ve made a lot of suggestions but I don’t understand the impetus behind the suggestions. I really can’t make an analysis of the breadth of your argument with that in mind.

That said, I am not sure if you understand Resistance. You say it’s an adjustment when rolling it into protection in the way you suggest is a massive, fundamental shift in the effect. You realize you’ve completely butchered Warriors with this change, right?

There’s also no analysis made on the basis of boon protection/condition coverage and it doesn’t really make sense without that either. In reality, this changelist is just a gigantic buff to Necromancers because less boons means it takes less time for you to start corrupting Stability.

Instead of buffing (power creep), lets nerf hot, elite specs not only ruined diversity but also included too many ways to bypass mistakes or make their outcome appear later.

Once the game its on a level of balance that it have prehot (without the cele problem), you could reevaluate each class problems.

Power creep will only mantain or make worse this meta and how forgiving it can be.

I am not sure if I like this solution. I think it takes a lot of examination to really tell whether it’s a good idea. When expac 2 comes out and we get the next set of elite specs and their mechanics, we’ll be able to tell whether power creep is an issue or not. But in the meantime…

Core Shroud is not just weak; it’s unfun. It’s too slow, it feels clunky, and its abilities don’t synergize (900 range teleport-to-target projectile when your AA is a 1200 range attack- brilliant!). Would tweaking it up actually result in power creep?

Death Magic is a place where power ‘creep’ actually makes sense because it has a minor trait that simply does nothing and could be replaced with something servicable (soul comprehension).

Unblockables from Necro and Warr do toast them pretty good, espec corrupt boon and tootyhorn 4 on the Necro.

They are also still very susceptible to projectile destruction/reflection. Sword 1 may have been fixed but LB, Sword 3, focus 4 are still very dependent on projectiles.

This seems like a good call, I have literally never changed this build since season 1, so that Unholy Feast buff could prove to be much more beneficial now.

The Unholy Feast buff doesn’t apply to Spiteful Spirit. Still a very strong trait though.

I’d strongly recommend trading Close to Death for Spiteful Spirit. Deathly Perception as Power will make it regularly crit for 2-3k, you’ll be stripping boons which is always great and proccing up to 5*Retal will give you 170-850 HP when entering Shroud with Blighter’s Boon.

I would also recommend Sigil of Strength on your Axe for even more BB goodness.

I wouldn’t let that build melee me. It’s good but I would just los kill it from outside his max melee.

The axe is more dangerous than the greatsword

Whether it’s working as intended is up to debate, but that’s how it works.

IMO it should be two as that actually gives Power a lot to work with, but Spiteful Spirit is already a very strong trait even with just a single boonflip. It’s hard to say it should be buffed when Spite is a Power tree, but it’s being recommended for condi.

My thoughts:

Vital Persistence is too important. Reduce the base LF degen from 4% to 3%, and have VP still reduce it to 2%.
Soul Comprehension sucks. Replace it with “Gain 2% LF every 3 seconds”.

I’ve been raiding for a year and haven’t seen any toxicity in pugs. Either i’m lucky or blind.
Only one person was toxic and half the raid community has him blocked. Most of you can probably guess.

You’re not really blind. Small communities are extremely good at self-regulation, whether that’s the pug community or a raiding guild.

I have no issues dueling with GS and staff on my power necro.

Axe is not our ‘best weapon’. Not by a long shot.

Maybe you could talk about general PvP instead of dueling, or try addressing the points directly, instead of barely-relevant anecdotes.

It was a shock to me just how much of a difference the cool down reduction made in replacing staff with axe. Of course, there is the 10% damage increase from Unholy Fervor but 20% icd reduction seemed like it made axe worth trading with staff.

It makes sense. All the power of the weapon is loaded into 2 and 3.

The only extra corruption curses has over spite is if you take path of corruption and land shroud 2 all the time, Spiteful spirit is FAR more reliable than weakening shroud. Better range, cant be LoS’d, does more damage, cripple and retaliation are more useful than people think.

I’m fond of MoC as corruptions just give you so many options for a Power necro. PoC is not so great because you don’t want to send yourself into melee that often.

Corrupt Boon is obviously way better with MoC.
Consume Conditions is the same.
CPC is an amazing trait especially with MoC. Projectile destruction is always amazing and especially helps to reduce the amount of incoming pressure you’ll receive.
Plague is a nice get-out-of-dodge button. If your team plays with it right you can use yourself as bait as a lot of people will just think “NECRO? KILL” even while you’re plagued up and spamming out Blind→Chill→Bleed+Vuln.

But I’m gold T1 so idk maybe I’m just bad.

In many ways, removing raiding from social equations might actually improve that part of the game. There’s just too much toxicity tied to that element.

(in my 20 years of multiplayer RPG gaming, all the guilds i was in – and i was in many – eventually fell apart due to causes that were rooted in raiding, or its pre-wow equivalent. I don’t remember any other factor that would be even half as disruptive as this one)

Unfortunately, in GW2 this pandora box has already been opened.

Well think about it. The matchmaker is throwing games together in 20-60s. It’s like it is not even trying to find players with similar skill. The most balanced matches in the past had about a 4-8 minute queue. Eithe the matchmaker got much smarter, or the thresholds were lowered to non-existence.

Restyling the divisions would have done a lot to accelerate matchmaking.

What If raid composition had a yolo mode and was determined by automated matching like PvP solo queue? Raid experience could be measured by account and profession. Composition could follow a bell curve ensuring one highly experienced player for each new raider.

Ok so why does pvp have asc items in it and why are they easy fast and cheap to get ? i mean it doesnt even makes sense asc has no use in pvp and you mentioned when ppl asked for the reasoning behind the fractal prices for asc chest that you didnt want the prices to be lower than crafting the gear thats not the case in pvp asc gear tho.

Because Ascended gear is a great way to get people who otherwise might not try ranked PvP to try it out. It’s still extremely limited gear as you can only get 1200 shards in a season; not enough for a full armor set, nevermind buying other pieces.

And hell why not give asc to wvw first where it matters?

How do you know that they aren’t planning to add Ascended gear as a WvW reward?

Axe is actually Power Necro’s best weapon; the AoE boonclear and high burst/LF generation on 2 is extremely useful, and the fast attack speed is great for proc effects, especially Strength Runes. It’s just that Power Necro doesn’t really have any place doing much of anything in PvP because it doesn’t have the tools to last in a brawl and it rarely matches up in duels.

And it’s not even possible to get full asc set in one season. This 100 shards cut is total BS. Either make it changable in MF or at least give us the possibility to get full set in one season.

I’m curious whether you have a source on this? I’d really like to know if this is the case; I figured the Llama would not be rewarded a second time, not that you couldn’t get more Ascended Shards by farming Byzantium.

edit: Just checked Reddit. ANet I’m not sure why you made this decision but I think it’s probably a good idea to revise this decision. The Shards are a massive draw for playing in the season; pushing people out by no longer giving them at the Byzantium stage is just going to mean a lot of players filter out once they get there. Even if Byzantium® only gave 50-100 Shards, you will still have plenty of people plugging away at Ranked PvP just to farm Ascended gear.

Lets say I have a MM build using the Blood Magic trait line. My question is…do the Vampiric and Vampiric Presence talent traits stack for xtra healing? Also for Vampiric Presence do the minions take advantage of this trait as well?

Finally for those of you who use all your minions what strat do you use to increase your speed since you wont be using your signet? Do you use certain runes?

My criticisms:
Keep Capturer drops a tome. I already have 6 stacks of tomes I don’t need any more. Put something else in there please.
WvW Ranker is a very long one, yeah. Switch the box to match Keep Capturer, with its new reward instead of Tome of Knowledge.

Maybe attach 500 WXP to the reward potions so that you can just buy the daily, like you can with PvP Rewards Daily.

An amulet would need to come from elsewhere. Bloodstone Fen amulet would likely work.

Instead of using Assassin’s Amulet you could likely use other Assassin’s pieces and instead use a Zerker amulet.

I don’t like combining Unholy Sanctuary and Corruptor’s Fervor but I do like the idea of a trait which pulses out Poison on a timescale. I also like the idea of removing Deathly Strength. Maybe push one of those two traits down to the Master tier and put that Poison trait in the GM. Choosing between Reaper’s Protection and Corruptor’s Fervor is a decent choice as you’re choosing between possibly Terror/Fear of Death and the defenses that Corruptor’s Fervor provides.

I think a good second effect for Poop Shield would be “while above the threshold, apply poison(5s) when struck. 5s cd)”. I like the idea of applying token Poison and therefore the benefits of the trait.

I think you should also be looking at Soul Comprehension. This is a bad minor trait, & since it’s a minor, everyone with Death Magic has it- and everyone with it sucks by default.

Balance splits between raids and other forms of PvE are imo not a drastic issue. There are some weird quirks of the current balance of the game, like necros being super viable in fractals while suboptimal in raids, but these are relatively minor cases. There are very few places where raid rebalancing is going to make non-raid content impossible; the closest thing to noteworthy is the Pack rune nerf.

The balance splits created by WvW are frankly more impactful, particularly referencing the SoI nerf, but I am disinclined to say that is a major issue either as Quickness proliferation is a major issue which crowds out some specs.
