Simply put: this is a good thing.
The issue is not that players were using the daily rooms to try to get their dailies completed on each class.
The issue is that players would be bringing in classes that they are unfamiliar with to rated matches to try to clear their dailies and throwing matches because of it.
Side bonus: you can now complete your daily completionist just by winning one Rated match, without relying on the class daily. This is good for the dedicated PvPers, you get the Completionist achievement that bit easier.
If people can’t earn rewards by not actually playing the game anymore, all the better.

Are you supposed to, as a bronze-silver player, open the Diamond box every week?
It seems like what the game expects you to do and what players expect to do are out of order.
(edited by Sarrs.4831)
if you make XP tomes work in wvw
if you make tomes of knowledge instantly grant you a rank, you instantly hit rank 10k, because leveling up gives you a tok :p
There isn’t a cooldown on GM marks. There are cooldowns on the Ecto refinements. If you want to get around the ecto refinements, you can buy the materials produced using Ecto refinements (square of vabbian silk for example) from the TP.
FWIW you should be trying to get your 4 ecto refinements done every day. It’s decent money.
uncleansed target.
That kinda underlines the entire issue. Any PvP/WvW build worth their salt carries either consistent cleansing or consistent resistance. If enemies know they are roaming against you and you’re playing Trailblazer’s or Dire, they will load up even higher on cleansing.

Because they can re-attach the healthy bonuses to other stuff. Why have a +gathering Power of the Mists buff when they could attach it to something else, like an account perk of some kind like MF?
My thoughts on rewards:
- There’s too many different ones. Badges of Honor, Memories of Battle, Proofs of Heroics, they’re all the same thing. They should be condensed so that there are two currencies; Memories of Battle and Skirmish Tickets, similar to sPvP’s two currencies, Shards of Glory and Ascended Shards of Glory.
The only issue I can see this creating is making Hero Points trivial, as Memories of Battle would be used to buy Scrolls of Heroics, and Memories of Battle are tradable. Put a 1:1 rank:heropoint limit on purchasing new Scrolls.
- Improve raw track rewards. Tickets are the only reason to clear the track at the moment. Mist-Warped Packets only giving 2 of a basic material is really poor and should be tuned up to match Magic-Warped.

Just equip a few pieces of Marauder’s instead of Zerker’s and tada you have your health back.
You need to unlock the skin, and either of them will unlock that for you.
If the plague will follow the necro it’ll be meta for sure in pvp.
Best condibomb: Plague, wait, cast flesh wurm on point and teleport, gg.
No what you do is you slot Spectral Walk, activate Spec Walk from a superior position, close and plant the Plague, then Spec Walk out.
It’s killer for WvW siege. I don’t know how it’d work in sPvP beyond just making you even better at cleaving corpses.
that’s game wide, wvw has them too
You didn’t ask for exclusive systems. All that matters is that PvE and sPvP have them, which they do.
…And AP in WvW? Really? You know as well as I do that’s a giggle.
No other game mode has a system which tracks for 4 years that goes to rank 10k.
achievement points
Only if EotM functions similarly to the other WvW maps; one server v one server v one server & contributes to Mist War score.
If you want pips, play real WvW.
How nice that you ignore my whole post and come back with a 1 liner. Really makes your point clear.
The first line of your argument should be the fundamental premise of it; a summation of the points which you are going to explain & justify to convince your audience.
When the fundamental premise of your argument is demeaning everyone who disagrees with you, it speaks more of you as a person than it does of the people who disagree with you, or their position.
Plaguelands is good. I use it in WvW no problem & it’s definitely the best elite for my build there. I don’t know if it beats Plague but it’s quite good.
I would like it if it had some of its old Stability granting effect, likely maybe it pulses Stability to you while you stand in it, but otherwise it’s quite good.
I would like it a whole lot more if you didn’t have to be standing in that strategic location to use it.
I’d ask for a little range but i’m scared that they’d make it into a well skill.
I don’t think they’d be afraid to make it a ranged-targeted skill. CPC is after all.
The only reason wvwers do not want it lowered, is because they are being selfish
What Susie says of Sally.
You can’t compare it to AP though, since all people started with 0 buffs from AP when they were introduced and all had to grind their way to their rewards.
That’s not true, please check your facts. AP bonuses were introduced just under a year after launch, when you could earn AP prior to that.
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Achievement_rewards
Achievement rewards were introduced in the Bazaar of the Four Winds release, retroactively rewarding players for already earned achievement points.
1) Why not give WvW:ers something that lets them show off their ACTUAL rank range instead of just “I’m over 2k!”? Badge, Title, something displayable inWvW and non WvW areas..?
What precisely do you propose?
Titles? Nobody cares.
Account badge? Not many people care.
Armor is actually noticeable.
It’s not even unique armor. It’s a variant skin.
2) The average joe still needs to spend 750 HOURS doing WvW to be able to buy this armor set, just due to the TICKETS, so stop using the Rank requirement as some sort of “makes the shiny-hunters run away” argument. If you’re not already deterred by those hours you’re not going to be deterred by the rank requirement. 99 weeks of grinding if you want all the shinies.. Will you be rank 2000 by then?Probably, but that isn’t the point;
It’s actually more like 130 weeks worth of clearing Diamond box every week.
3) Rank requirement should go flying out the window since it’s an unfair “advantage”, which does not exist anywhere else in the game. It’s simply “rewarding past effort” and giving some people an unfair advantage over others. That’s why it’s bad. If it was a new rank, that everyone had to get, it would be fine (like the tickets), but it’s not.
Magic Find, Gold Find, Karma Find, XP Find from daily AP are literally rewarding past effort. Opening your monthly +goldfind bonus is rewarding past effort. Having salvaged a lot of equipment and pushed up your magic find is rewarding past effort. Home instance nodes are investments & rewarding past effort.
4) Vets are already rewarded by extra pips.. Again, where in the game did something else get added in that rewarded past effort this much? Nowhere.
AP grinders got massive benefits out of LS1, earning elements that can never be earnt again. You can at least grind up WvW levels to try to catch up. You cannot catch up with an LS1 player who got all achievements.
Half the time in wvw is spent repairing walls or standing around or defending structures or losing zerg vs zergs or running places only to flee.
I already know pretty much everything there is to learn about wvw (and all other game modes) except for tiny nuances and details.
These two statements are contradictory. If you know everything there is to know about WvW, you would not be spending half of your time repairing walls, hard scouting objectives, ‘defending structures’ or losing fights. That’s not how you win in WvW.
Shared participation is a double-edged sword if this is true: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/wuv/Botting-in-WvW-Wow/
I’ve seen people giving their own alts participation. I didn’t report it because I don’t really care if someone feeds themselves a bit of participation & they are a commander so props to them for that, but I would’ve been annoyed if it was an actual scout who was getting shafted because of it.
Yah sure insinuating that I can’t handle the predictable monotony that is wvw, it’s clearly too much for me to handle and what does this have to do with what I suggested above?
No, I’m insinuating that a T1 server is a bad fit for you. If you think that you need to be karmatraining to earn WXP at a reasonable rate (the veracity of this assertion is also an issue), and nobody on your server wants to do it, then you should be looking into a server which does want to play with a more karmatraining-friendly style.
I’m not responding to your suggestions at all. I’ve already responded to them all with everything up to and including a big block of math.
Sitting in an objective ‘defending’ and losing ZvZ is not how you win WvW.
I play on blackgate since launch.
Maybe you should move to a server which is more your pace.
I would like to point one thing out: current system also heavily favors heavy armor classes and eles/necros because those can stay in zerg and gain ranks faster where medium armor and the rest get kicked from squad/get forced into roaming so overall their rank gains are lower. Which results in actual class discrimination.
This is false. You do not need to be zerging to get rank gain. An efficient roaming pattern will get very solid WXP gains; the only consistently better way to get WXP is karmatraining on an empty map. If you’re karmatraining anyway, commander don’t care what class you bring. A good roamer can exploit objective tagging to gain WXP from the targets or they can fill a forward scouting role for the commander and the commander will give them scout credit for WXP gains.
If you’re an effective roaming scout, you will get the best WXP rate in the game with the commander feeding you Scout WXP while you also gain your own WXP at a strong rate. I’d have to check, but I think you also get the WXP of the other roaming scouts as well.
There is already many ways to boost WXP, but nothing that boosts PIPS.
Good. It should remain that way. A pip enrichment is a bandaid for stingey pips anyway. If you want more pips, just ask for more pips.
The XP Enrichment granting more WXP is an obvious change that makes sense and will give WvW players more choices in what Enrichment they’d like to use.
I think the average player maybe gains 5-6 pips per tick atm and has to play 3 hr everyday to get through the chests. Thats way to much time for the low amount of tickets they contain…
The average player is rank 49, according to GW2E. The average player with 4000h+ playtime is 469.
The average player is earning 2-4 pips per tick.
How is it not fair? You are perfectly capable of raising your rank yourself to get extra pips.
Since I have merely unlocked T2 by doing the Reward Track so far, not yet purchased it, I cannot see the costs of T3 other than the Rank Requirements. Therefore I am going by the costs listed on the official Wiki.
They state 1310 for a set of T2, 1310 for a set of T3 = total of 2620.
Those costs are wrong. T3 costs double the cost of the prior piece. T3 chestpiece costs 700 Skirmish Tickets, f.ex.
The wiki appears to be hilariously wrong. I will correct this.
(edited by Sarrs.4831)
Participation in general should be based on active gameplay.
If you kill a sentry, it shouldn’t reset your timeout timer to 10min. It should give you a minute or so but not let you completely ignore restoring your participation.
Id rather see bonus wxp ( which will equate to more pips in the long run) or make the existing exp infusion apply to wxp.
Would definitely prefer XP boost to benefit WXP.
No. If I aim for nothing but T3 armor, 1 set, it will take me just under 500 hours to farm the 2620 Claim Tickets I need.
No, you need 3930. You need to unlock the T2 armor as well. To not include that in costing is silly.
You don’t get 2k rank in 500 hours
No, with active play you should get around 1k ranks. It may take a bit of practice to understand how to get the most out of your playtime to push this XP rate, but it’s a very practical estimate.
unless you’re up against a server where you’re in a zerg that can flip paper towers and keeps on a regular basis..
You don’t need to be in a zerg at all to get this XP rate. I get this XP rate when I do donuts around the desert Borderlands, flipping camps and shrines.
If this is how they are going to reward game modes then where is my 5 year+ of playtime reward for pve or for spvp or for playing the trading post and earning tons of gold?
I dunno what’d you spend your gold on?
The Rank requirement is still bloody ridiculous for those that only want that specific reward though; the 1 armor set.
It’s not. Getting the T2 armor and a small series of T2 weapons while you gather the tickets for T3 armor puts you at roughly 1800, at which point you can purchase multiple pieces of the T3 armor.

This ^ I knew before we even got the WvW version of ascended that they would be badly implemented just as the fractals and PvP versions are, so ofc it was going to be the same. This game is full of poorly implemented recipes and that has always been the case, I feel like they are never going to get it right at this point.
What precisely about the marks is poorly implemented? It seems to me like marks, and ascended materials in general, fill a very clear key role and looking at the prices on the market, they do them well (especially compared to markets like Gossamer, Silk, Mithril and Orichalcum).
The solution here isn’t to cater to casuals more than Anet already has. The solution, instead, is actually to work harder at making your server better so that you get more pips per time (a new PPT if you will). You can get up to 3 just for having the top war score. You also get more for being a higher rank (bronze, silver, gold etc.). But if Anet just rewards you for playing and not improving, then you won’t improve, and that’s catering to bad players or casual ones (no matter their skill). You can still get to Mithril in a week, which isn’t bad. Diamond should be reserved for the winning server and/or players who play a lot.
Specifically here, the solution is to convince ANet to start launching their patches at the same time as the WvW week rolls over :p
Getting the very first chest was supposed to be a bit of a pinch; you had less than half a week to do it. Way easier from now.
last week I managed to play 3 sessions, that was worth 1 of the 4 wooden chests, which means no tickets for the leg.backpack.
Then all my pips got reset, if I play 3 sessions a week (several hours each) and I can’t even complete the wooden chest, then I might as well not play WvW at all, since the leg.backpack has become exclusive to people who don’t have a job and don’t have a social life
To get the wooden chest, if you are earning one pip per tick, you need to maintain participation for 8 & 1/3rd hours. This is the absolute largest amount of time you need to open the Wood box. You only kept your participation up for about 2 hours; you’re not doing ‘3 sessions a week, several hours each’.
I think they should make one direct change to the pips rewards:
1st place: 5 pips
2nd place: 4 pips
3rd place: 3 pips
The only real issue with the system imo is that it is so intimidating to lower-ranked players that they don’t want to bother trying. This will allow them to make actually noticable gains without relying on Outmanned.
I don’t think anything else needs changes.
Outmanned is an issue, but it’s not because it gives 5 pips. Outmanned needs to be redesigned to only reward players who have been on the map for at least one tick. It is a key system that is implemented at such a high weight to reward playing on low-pop servers.
its useless for both builds. for power, dumplings are better and for condi it’s trash because you lose 20% condition damage, most important stat
Is for WvW, not PvE. Overall Chill duration is actually good in WvW.
any more ideas which i can try?
You could try playing the game, that way you rank up and you get way more pips when you rank up enough.
They are both used to unlock the next tier of armor.
The Exotic gear is there in case you don’t have the crafting skills needed to make the Grandmaster’s marks, or don’t want to spare the cash to get materials for the marks.
It’s hard to get ranks, they said. This is with only a birthday booster with quite too many playing hours for my taste put you get my point, it will never take two years of playing to get 2k if you just dedicate your time for WvW
I think a lot of people underestimate just how powerful boosters are in WvW. It only takes a handful of effects to get your XP over +200%. Birthday & celebration boosters are massive & their best effect is in WvW since it feeds into everything.
Kinda hard to pinpoint a destination when no one can agree on how long the journey will take…someone needs to science this kitten
ume that you are:
1. Trying to hit Diamond box every week.
2. Earning, on average, 2 ranks per hour (doable solo campwhacking without bday or xp boosters).
3. Coming second-place on every tick. You are not receiving Outmanned and you are not Commanding.
4. The point at which tickets no longer hold value for you is the point at which you have unlocked all T2 armor skins of one weight, T3 armor skins of one weight, and half a dozen weapons (total cost of 6030 tickets, which takes 35 weeks to earn).
5. You are not interested in the legendary backpiece.
We know:
1. You need 1450 pips a week in order to clear the Diamond box.
Therefore, we know you will gain the following number of pips per tick/per hour, with rank and winning pips:
Wood: 2/24.
Bronze: 3/36.
Silver: 4/48.
Gold: 5/60.
You will gain 12 extra pips per hour after the third week.
To complete your Diamond box while wood, you will need to spend 60 hours in WvW, and therefore gain 120 ranks.
Early in the second week, you hit bronze. You take roughly 45 hours in WvW to hit the Diamond box in this week. Rank 210.
Third week, you take 40 hours. Rank 300.
Fourth week, you gain the Loyalty bonus, and are now gaining 48 pips per hour. It will take you 30 hours per week to open the Diamond box, and therefore gain 60 ranks each week.
It takes you five weeks & two days to reach Silver, at which point your hours needed drops to 25 per week, and therefore gain 50 ranks per week. This happens in the middle of the 9th week.
It takes you roughly 15 weeks to hit Gold. This puts you in the 24th week. You now take 20 hours to hit Diamond box, and therefore earn 40 ranks per week.
It takes 3 weeks to hit rank 1500. You can now begin purchasing Prestige armor pieces. You are in the 27th week.
Over the next 8 weeks, reaching the 35 week deadline, you earn another 320 ranks, putting you at roughly 1820. You can purchase 4/6 armor pieces.
It takes you another 4 and a half weeks to reach the rank needed to purchase the chestpiece. You will have an excess 875 tickets.
The rank is not an issue in the context of the hours you need to put forward to earn the pips. You may not have all your goals, but they are within reach, and you have already earnt many rewards. There’s a case to be made that the deadline is too strict; it is fair to assume most players have some interest in the backpiece, and players may want more than 6 weapons.
If there is an issue, it is in the amount of time you need to spend playing to even earn the Diamond box. The 30+hour weeks required to earn the diamond boxes as lower ranks are obscene and not tenable for the average player. However, this says nothing about the rank requirements for the prestige armor.
(edited by Sarrs.4831)
1. Most of the reason to buy these armor pieces is for the sake of the skin, not for the sake of the Ascended armor level. You would suffer a similar cost buying the Exotic skins because of…
2. Most of the price is behind Memories of Battle whose price has been inflated by speculation. Give it a bit of time to settle.
what makes you think i pve only? I fully intend to grind to 2k
Sounds like the system’s done its job; it’s given you an incentive to spend a lot of time in the game mode, which was one of WvW’s most dire shortcomings.
How come I didn’t get my legendary armor just for being a dedicated pve player for 4 years?
It takes 22 weeks to even finish a set of WvW prestige armor, banked tickets notwithstanding, and you need to clear to Diamond box every single week. That’s still 10+ hours of farming per week unless you’re extremely good at juking Outmanned.
Completing your legendary armor takes less time, both on a per-weekly-hour basis and on a total-weeks-timegated basis.
Extremely strong during the period in which they will actually apply chill. Near worthless compared to more reliable Might-granting foods during the day.
1. The zerg commander won’t let you into the invite only zerg, or requires ts to join the zerg. Then you’re relegated to roaming solo with a zerg build, unless you want to relog out and rewait and reroll a solo build, which is something I never do, cuz if I’m gonna play solo, I’m gonna pvp or pve. Makes more sense. Or you can run alongside the zerg solo and not get any of the benefits or protections and not get much in the way of rank up.
Huh? This is really weird. Intelligent solo players are extremely prized by commanders, some of the biggest contributors to the matchup, and a very fun way to play WvW. It’s extremely competitive for WXP and you get plenty of fights.
The fact of the matter is that the people who benefit from rewards basically automatically being retrofit to people’s accounts are in favor of the requirement. For the people who believe new rewards should not be based on past effort but instead future effort think the change is unreasonable. It’s people being selfish snowflakes
I might agree, if new players weren’t actually capable of reaching the levels that standing WvW players have. You should not get rewarded for doing something in the past that new players cannot get.
But they can. Any new WvW player is, outside of EOTM shenanigans which comprise a fairly small minority of players, perfectly capable of getting rank.
Chill application causing bleeding is key.
Reaper Shroud way better than Core shroud.
Rise! minions will detonate, causing a damage & condi application spike.
Viper’s is not amazing in WvW because necromancer has very few natural defenses and as a damage-dealing necromancer, you will be targeted.
It does fill a specific niche in siege bombing. Equip your Viper’s gear, Spectral Walk and Plaguelands, Spec Walk onto the siege and drop plaguelands, Spec Flip to safety. This will kill the siege and almost anyone stupid enough to stay on it.
If you want to play a heavy condi-oriented build in WvW, the most practical gearset is going to be Trailblazer’s. If you want to play hybrid, Celestial is strong.
It’s very nice for all you K-trainers or Eotm abusers, but for scouts or non-zerglings it is far from ok.
I am rank 2956. 90% of my gameplay is solo or small group roaming; very little EOTM play. This armor is not out of your reach if you have regularly played WvW.
agreed. anet needs to fix it if they ever plan on selling more copies of the game. it’ll be a turn off for sure.
Leaving aside that the game is F2P, and you don’t actually need to have a full copy of the game to get the armor…
How many people, exactly, do you think were planning to buy a full copy of the game, yet decided against it because they saw that one piece of armor takes a lot of effort to get? I would be genuinely amazed if one person was planning to buy a full copy of GW2 yet decided against it because the rank requirement is too high.
I get that ya’ll don’t like it, but can we please keep it in perspective? This kind of hyperbole is ridiculous.
