Am I legendary yet!?
Like others have said, if you have been playing since head start or shortly after and couldn’t save enough gold to buy a precursor, then you are REALLY doing something wrong. I have made six legendaries and bought every precursor. I don’t even play the TP. I do play a lot but and started at head start but I prioritized my gold and saved it all. I didn’t squander it on “junk”.
Even playing casual, you can make 10g a day pretty easy. Run a few dungeons, sell the mats, use the tokens to buy armor and break it down into mats to sell as well and either sell rares of break them into ecto and sell that.
I’m not saying the current system is good but face it, Anet isn’t gonna change it and most likely I don’t see an alternative way to get precursors coming. So just suck it up and either get one by the methods now or just give up.
Am I legendary yet!?
(edited by Sauzo.6821)
They could also put a cap on the amount any single item can be sold for on the TP. Say 1000g. That would mean precursors couldn’t go higher unless you want to chance selling one by trading with a person which is very risky.
Am I legendary yet!?
Lol too funny, make the precursor recipe an orichalcum greatsword and then 250 empyreal stars, 250 bloodstone bricks and 250 dragonite ingots? Can you imagine the price jump on T6 mats!! Bloods are already 64s each, they alone would probably jump up to 1g+ each as well as im sure all the other T6 mats. So now you got a cheap way to make a precursor and yay you saved 1200g. Now you gotta pay 2000g+ to make gift of fortune….like I’ve said before, trading one evil for another. Of course I don’t mind this as I’d be happy as a clam to sell people my T6 mats for 1-2g each
Am I legendary yet!?
I usually use arcane wave, signet of fire and lightning hammer as a S/D might stacker. If my pug is filled with people who take my hammers, then I just say screw it and either use scepter dmg or will drop signet of fire for ice bow.
Am I legendary yet!?
I agree. A hardcore gamer who cant make a legendary after almost 2 years of playing(assuming she played since release, no idea since I didn’t read when she started) is not a hardcore gamer. They are a poser :P
Am I legendary yet!?
I find it kind of funny that probably most of the people crying about precursor crafting are the ones who REALLY want a precursor. If you REALLY want a precursor, then work for it and start grinding. I mean I started playing the game at head start and in that amount of time I managed to buy 6 precursors and craft 6 legendaries. Now granted I do play a lot but I have also made 6 legendaries. You need to prioritize your wants. You cant buy all that shiny armor and skins and toys if you want a precursor. You need to turn into Scrouge Mcduck and sell everything you get and hoard every copper you get. You will probably also have to play through some times you would rather not. Getting a precursor fast is not an easy or necessarily fun thing. If you want to make it fun, then casually play and after about a year you will have one. Even casually, you should not have a problem making 10g a day. That’s 300g a month not counting anything really good dropping. So in about 90 days, you could throw in a buy order for a precursor and probably get it. Only 90 days. But again, it boils down to how bad do you want it and how much willpower do you have.
Am I legendary yet!?
If this person was a so called “Hardcore gamer” and they quit over farming gold for a precursor, I call them weak. Play EQ and get flagged all the way up to PoTime or work on getting VP key or work on your Epic weapon there. It took guilds of people to get the pieces to make 1 person a weapon. Also not to mention the weeks of running planes in a raid and praying your item you needed dropped and that you had enough DKP to buy it. Not to mention other games like EQ2, AoC, and vanilla WoW which took months and months and months to get geared out since all the raid content was time gated. In GW2 grinding gold for a precursor is not gated so you can farm zones for mats, run dungeons, do events etc etc.
If you want rage inducing system, play Tera when it came out and try to make a MW weapon and then get it +12 which cost literally thousands of gold and 99% of the time it failed and you lost all that gold. It’s like playing the mystic forge and having to have to win 12 times and the weapons were required for the high end dungeons or you were kicked or just not invited vs legendaries here just being cosmetics really.
If you quit over not getting a precursor fast enough, you would have quit after making a legendary anyways imo.
Also I read the article and I don’t remember reading about the timeframe they started or amount of time played. If they started at release and couldn’t save enough to buy 1 precursor alone or between them both, then they are doing something drastically wrong. I have been playing since release and have managed to farm enough gold to buy 6 precursors and finish 6 legendaries and I don’t even play the TP.
And to play devil’s advocate, if they made precursors craftable, what do you think would happen to the prices of T6 mats and anything else needed for legendaries? They would double or triple in price. So now you got a craftable precursor which saves you 1000g but now the cost of making gift of might and magic both tripled in price so now it costs 3k to make gift of fortune. Grats you just traded one evil for another. Now we will see threads about how T6 mats are overpriced and they should be handed out at a whime and so on and so on for every other piece of the legendary. Once the dust settles on all that crying, the answer will be, “once you hit level 80, Anet will send you a legendary token which can be traded in for a legend of your choice”.

I hear ya, I’ve been so tempted to try the mystic forge for kittens and giggles since I’ve already made 6 legendaries and the only other one that even remotely interests me is Bifrost but then I remember all the horror stories I’ve read about the MF and decide to spend the gold on kitten and booze in Rata Sum!!! Get me some of that midget love!!!
Am I legendary yet!?
I would be wary of anyone nowadays as they have name change contracts for sale which means someone who is known as a “good guy” could still scam you and then just change their name as well as a server and you will be sol. Never underestimate the power of greed especially in online games where nothing can happen to you IRL and dealing with such a large chunk of cash. Better off eating the TP fees and knowing you wont be ripped off period.
Am I legendary yet!?
Start with weapons as those are the biggest bang for the buck. Armors after you get all the weapons you plan to use and got gold laying around as armors are only about a 5% boost overall.
Am I legendary yet!?
Precursors have gotten out of control but to play devil’s advocate, you shouldn’t gamble away what you can’t accept to lose. I mean if you threw over 2k gold in a few months, if you had just saved up all that, you could have bought 2 precursors. The MF is just a pit of broken dreams and heartache.
As for top earning MMOs, it’s no surprise WoW is #1 and 5 of the top 10 are Korean grindfest games which again is no surprise as Asians love grindy games.
I mean I played Lineage 2 for a long time and loved it.
Lineage 1 is only in korea.
Aion was fun for a bit but was mostly a gankfest game.
Tera had a horrible community and was nothing more than just a grinder. It made grinding for precursors in this game seem like childs play if you ever played it and made a +12 MW weapon plus armor.
SWTOR back when I played only had a like 2 or 3 raid zones and a handful of dungeons, not too much grinding from what I remember.
LOTRO had a couple raids and dungeons but overall was rather boring unless you were into the whole RP of Middle Earth.
Rift was just too easy to level and really didn’t offer anything as all classes could do everything so it seemed rather generic but I only played about 2 months as that’s about how long it took for me to max a couple characters and run a bunch of dungeons and get bored.
Making precursors craftable is a slippery slope as if they did then you know kitten well that T6 mats would shoot through the roof. I mean look at T6 bloods, they are already about 60s each. Imagine if they made craftable precursors, the bloods would probably double if not triple in price as well as all the other T6 mats as well as ectos and anything else associated with making a legendary. So it’s kind of pick your poison, have outrageous priced precursors or have outrageous priced mats and needing 2000 of just those T6 mats alone in that case would probably cost double what a precursor costs now. The only difference is precursors are a big chunk of cash upfront at once where as mats can be picked up 1 at a time.

You can change the stats of any legendary anytime you are not in combat by double clicking the weapon. Then a drop down pops up with all the prefix on weapon choices ie zerker, Valkyrie, soldiers, knights etc. The only prefix you cant do is givers, zealot and nomad. Not sure why but you cant. As for BiS, as stated before by the devs, anytime there is a new tier of weapons introduced, legendaries will be boosted to that level as well so you will never need to upgrade or change your legendary unless you want zealot, givers or nomad weapons. Then you will need to make those ascended.
Just for clarification: Givers is not included in the Legendary Stat choice because there is no ascended givers weapons either.
Zealot is not included because its an exotic stat, the name of the ascended stat combo with Pow/Pre/Heal is Keepers, which is included in the stat choice of Legendaries.Nomad again is the name of the exotic stat, the asc stat is called Ventari.
However, last time I checked Ventari wasnt selectable on Legendaries but Anet already acknowledged that that was an oversight and will be added with a future patch.
Well that explains that. Anyways who would use anything but zerkers!!!??

All the GS are meh. The effect on Juggernaut is so much better. Plus like Ascimator said, all the GS are way too common.
Am I legendary yet!?
I would stay S/D if you are the only ele. I feel that stacking might+fury for your whole group and then LH is gonna be better dps overall than just the boost from staff to yourself. Of course if you feel lazy, then go for staff. Really only have to push 3 hotkeys
Don’t underestimate the power of might
Am I legendary yet!?
Go look at DeKeyz2Chaos sticky on dps ele. She gives a good breakdown and numbers for the different weapons. If you are running S/X you are only running it to stack might and perma fury with the weapon itself and using LH as your dps weapon. I personally run S/D or D/F or D/D depending what im doing. I never run staff since I think its kind of a horrible weapon(mechanics wise) and almost as boring as playing a GS warrior.
Am I legendary yet!?
I’m surprised you use staff in wvw for solo roaming. No one in their right mind would be dumb enough to stand in a meteor or lava font and those are the 2 biggest dps hitters for staff. I would imagine a FA D/D build would be much better as the AA from air does good dmg and having FA would allow you hop attunements pretty fast while also having the 6 points in Arcane Power tree. Of course I don’t PVP, so my thoughts are just a guess.
Am I legendary yet!?
PVE it really depends on what you want to do. S/X is gonna be for stacking might and keeping perma fury on the group but your dps will tank unless you’re using LH. D/D you stack some might but not as much as S/X but with a FA build you do decent air AA and can bounce around to other attunements and back to air quick and easy. Using a D/F you get good might stacks, perma fury as well as good survival utility. Staff is good against stationary targets but as most dungeons you stack on, you are pretty limited vs S/X or D/D for survival utilities since you need to stay in fire or you do craptastic dps and having like a 10 sec cd on attunement swaps means if you need to hop out of fire, you will suck for 10 secs.
For PVP, I don’t do much of that other than the Ktrain or following a zerg so cant help much there.
Like I said before, me personally I run either S/X or D/F in dungeons and D/D when I’m out farming or mindless open world killing. I never use staff.

The armor bonus is worthless since ele has such low armor and HP to begin with. That 2 points in toughness wont save crap. I would much rather have power and crit as killing faster means less chance of me making a mistake and eating a big shot but as for your build, I do agree stone splinters all the way.
Am I legendary yet!?
Definitely go with zerker trinkets and back since those give the biggest boost. Then you can sub in different armor pieces with zerker as you get more comfortable. I forgot the rank of importance for armor but I think it was helm, gloves, shoulders, boots, chest, pants. Regardless though, always go with full zerker trinkets for PVE.
Am I legendary yet!?
Both are good. S/D relies on mostly LH and D/D on AAs. I usually just switch em up when I’m bored of one. Then there is staff which to me is boring as all hell since you pretty much just camp fire and spam lava font, meteor, AA. Kind of reminds me of GS warrior but without the OPness
Am I legendary yet!?
Staff does have the highest potential DPS against immobile targets, which is why it works in PvE where things don’t really care if you spam 2 on them all day.
The reason people don’t tend to run it too often in PvE is because your group wants you to stack, and you have exactly one defensive weapon skill in fire, which makes you stupidly squishy. LH is next in line, but brings stuns, mobility, blinds, and blast finishers making it a vastly better PvE weapon overall.Really the only things I would have changed on staff would be slightly higher water damage (it should be low but not that low), a bit of air improvement (Gust is painful, the blind is okay but needs lower cast time to be effective), and less overlap between earth and air, which seem to both be control focused.
Hit the nail on the head with this one.
Am I legendary yet!?
Well I take what any MMO company says with a grain of salt. I’ve played too many MMOs in my years and have heard all sort of “promises” and “statements” which get changed or deleted and told or untold. How many other things has Anet outlined that have been changed or scraped. Didn’t one of Anet’s guys say that this game wasn’t gonna be your typical hack and slash grindfest, yet you have grind a TON for gold to buy stuff. Not that I’m complaining personally since I came from Korean grindfests like Aion, Lineage 2, Tera so this is kindergarten compared to those grinds. Just using it as an example.
And yes, it is very smart of them to do but again they are just using the same cash store models that other games have used for years. I personally still think they create the gems to meet the demands. I mean if they had a finite amount and for some odd reason they ever ran out, what would they do, close down the cash shop? No they would create gems since that is their main source of income. Regardless, I wish I would bought tons of gems on head start instead of mastering all the crafts
Am I legendary yet!?
The whole gold to gems etc deal is Anet’s way of providing a gold sink AND a way for them to make cash. Trading gold for gems sucks the gold out of the economy and buying gems with gold lines Anet’s pockets with real cash. Those of you who say otherwise do realize, there is no finite amount of gems or gold in the “store” right? Anet can create gold or gems out of thin air kind of like how the US government can just print paper money when they want. Sure years ago it was based on the gold reserves the government held but paper currency has become decoupled from precious metals years ago and there will never be a gold standard again. But anyways, yeah there is no finite amount of gold or gems in GW2.
Am I legendary yet!?
I opened 7 chests today and got 2 scraps and 1 full ticket. Guess my luck finally paid off after like 2 years of crappy luck.
Am I legendary yet!?
After making 6 legendaries and doing both methods, I think they pretty much even out. One at a time is slower but much easier to swallow if you get something lame like leather squares where as ten at a time is very rewarding when you get bloods or scales. So in the end my advice is “how lucky do you feel on this combine you’re about to do?” Feeling lucky, go for the ten. Not sure, go for the one.
Am I legendary yet!?
As far as dungeons, I’m talking about the common/cash run ones like AC1/3, SE1/3, CM1/3, CoF1/2, HotW1, TA1/2. Those ones if you run a staff, you will pretty much camp in fire. I mean here and there you will hop to another attunement for something but during the cooldown for fire, you will do crap dps. Stuff like Arah are a different animal and I personally quit doing Arah about 6 months after the game came out once I finished my dungeon master title. Think actually I quit after they fixed the teleport gun tricks to other paths off the wall in Lupis room.
And lets not even get started on how unrewarding fractals are to begin with….
@Iris ng
Ok guess I did miss what you meant. I assumed you meant that you are trying to dps in air with the scepter skills which in that case, it would be boring and crappy dps since scepter itself is not a good dps weapon but for stacking might. Conjured weapons are for the dps with that weapon.
Am I legendary yet!?
First rule is just avoid fractals all together. As others have said, the reward is so unrewarding.
Am I legendary yet!?
Look at it this way. If you play staff when solo AC or low-manning Arah, it is pretty challenging.
I agree that in a full 5 man team, playing staff ele is a bit monotonous and boring. However, many great eles I know swap weapons in between fights to fix the shortcomings of their group comp, and staff have the most useful utilities for group skipping.
The most boring playstyle for ele, imo, is scepter/dagger ele trying to burst the boss down with scepter air attack and churning earth. Bonus with ‘rolling in Earth for damage’. Pretty facepalm worthy.
If you actually are using churning earth for anything other than prestacking might, then you need to just reroll. And scepter air attacks are meh too. That is why you got 2 LHs and 2 FGS. Try dropping DT while running in and drop rof, phoenix, arcane brilliance, earthquake, arcane blast, summon LH and go crazy on the boss. I guarantee you will be the one the boss will turn to instantly.
And to me s/d or pretty much anything with LH is more fun since you will be in there meleeing. Boring to me is standing 600 yards away and spamming 251112115 through the dungeon. But then again, I prefer melee.
Am I legendary yet!?
(edited by Sauzo.6821)
This is the most effective stacking/bursting build, though… and trying to adjust your rotation for high DPS while reacting to melee range mobs or players is a very serious rush, but most folks just pick up the hammer and start smashing. It’s personal preference, for sure.
Isn’t s/f the best build for mightstacking?
The problem with s/d is that you don’t adjust your rotation for high DPS, because for most of the fight, all you do is just AA with a hammer. Sure you change your elements a couple of times to proc multipliers or shoot off a discharge, but that’s not exactly adjusting the rotation, because you just halt the rotation and AA until you can resume it.
It’s essentially a rotation of one skill.
I just kind of think every one of the meta setups apart from d/f failed the elementalist from a gameplay point of view. If you aren’t using the elements, you aren’t being an elementalist.
Actually I believe s/f can get a couple more stacks of might than s/d. Just s/d has a bigger fire field which makes it easier.
And you’re right, with s/d you mostly stack might, AA LH and keep up fury. But with staff, you spam 2511121152112115 all while sitting in fire or else you do completely crappy dps. Built right though s/d with LH can do really nice cleaves not to mention FGS dmg.
Basically it’s pick your poison. I personally find staff boring as all hell cause like I said, you camp fire and spam 3 buttons. If I wanted that I would play GS warrior AND have a ton more survivability. Plus from my experience, groups love 25 stacks of might all the time and perma fury. Don’t get me wrong though, when I’m feeling lazy, I too pop in the staff and go autopilot.
And yes Anet did kind of fail but then again, they failed at a lot of this game. Basically the biggest thing is the meta for anything PVE is run full zerker with zerker build. Healing or “tanking” will do nothing but slow the run down and allow for more mistakes since it takes longer to down the stuff.
Am I legendary yet!?
(edited by Sauzo.6821)
Staff is good dps but the minute you leave fire, it drops off considerably. Not to mention it is very mediocre support. That is why I run scepter/dagger. Guanglai, you say s/d is 20-30% weaker. Maybe if you only look at your own dps. But if you factor in the perma fury and might stacking to your whole group, I think it is a better dps boost than staff. And yes, scepter dps is horrible, thus why you run LH which can give you huge cleave dmg. IMO staff is lazy mode since you pretty much sit in fire and spam lava font and meteor. S/D, d/f, s/f or d/d is a much more “active” playstyle which I prefer. But to each their own.
Am I legendary yet!?
In groups like that, just pre stack the might once, bust out the LH and go to town. After that don’t drop LH to restack the might since it will be pointless with the others laying down the other fields on the boss.
Am I legendary yet!?
I personally run s/d myself because I like being able to stack might and fury which as others have said, adds a nice chunk of dps to the whole group. Plus running LH will put you close in dps to staff. Of course it does takes practice vs sitting in the back and hitting 1-2-5-1-1 etc etc. I just found staff boring after awhile but to each their own I guess. The only downside is once you stack that might and fury and then bust out with LH and go to town, bosses usually will focus you and put the hurt on.
Am I legendary yet!?
Precursors are NOT meant for the average person. Either bust your kitten to save the gold and buy one or work your kitten off in real life and bust out the credit card or save what you do earn and maybe one day you will have enough or just give up on the idea and enjoy the game the best YOU can play it. All the whining about how it isn’t fair etc etc gets old. I personally think its not fair that about 1% of the population are multi billionaires but I’m not one of them!!!
Am I legendary yet!?
Easy answer is like Wanze said, convert real cash to gems to gold. If you are restricted into a small amount of play yet make decent real cash, might be easier to just throw down a $100 into gems and convert and throw in a buy order. Is this the right way? In my opinion, no, but hey, if that’s the only option other than just not getting one at all…..or you can sit around for anywhere from 1 month to 10 years to see if Anet puts in an alternate way to get a precursor. My bets is none since precursors is Anets cash cow to get people to spend real cash for them.
Am I legendary yet!?
Might as well forget about it. Anet is making way too much money off cash to gems to gold. Despite what people might say, if precursors didn’t sell for close to the prices listed, then people would have to drop them and according to GW2Spidy, they have been selling. So that means either people are farming that gold in game or they are buying gems with real life cash. If it’s the latter then again, why would Anet kill the cash cow.
Am I legendary yet!?
Srsly tho ………………………
Never go by the listed price. I got mine on an order for 900g at the same time those were listing for that price.
Am I legendary yet!?
Actually if you read DEKeyztoChaos sticky on the Ele forums, he says staff is a low dps weapon unless you are in fire. It does provide good fields like you said though but scepter/dagger or scepter/focus provide a much better burst dmg while providing more utility for your group imo. I personally run scepter/x but have used staff a lot and I just felt staff was meh at best…..but to each their own.
Am I legendary yet!?
Staff is a horrible weapon for any class in PVE unless you are just tagging mobs in open world events. About the only one that it makes a semi decent weapon for is Ele but there are much better weapons like scepter/dagger or scepter/focus. PVPwise I cant speak there but from what I’ve heard there are better choices in PVP for classes that can use staff as well. So I’m not really sure why The Legend is so expensive other than it is one of the nicer looking legendaries, not too gaudy yet noticeable.
Am I legendary yet!?
(edited by Sauzo.6821)
Well still believe it is stupid regardless. For me, getting a legendary wasn’t really work anyways since I just “played” the game. As for spending the cash on pixels, they aren’t tangible. You cant pick them up and carry them or show them to friends unless you use something else to show them ie a computer. I consider stuff like cars, home theater equipment, houses, gold, silver, guns etc as a tangible assest, not pixels on a computer game which will be obsolete in about 3 years. As for me, I spend my cash on my house, car, PS4, Xbox, PC and home entertainment system. Just wouldn’t consider blowing real cash on something you can earn in a game with some work and time.
Of course that brings up the whole issue of legendaries even being able to be sold which I am against to begin with since I come from old school MMOs where you earned your endgear through work in game, not a credit card but that’s a whole different issue.
As for me being jealous, no not at all. I could do the same if I wanted but I would rather not get laughed at by my friends and peers. I mean it’s one thing to show my buddies my new PS4, Xbox one or super PC but if I printed out a screenshot and showed them a Twilight that I spent $400 real cash on, they would laugh their kitten off and I would never live that one down. Not to mention the strange look my family would give me if they found out too.
But as others have said, you really should upgrade your computer unless you only plan on playing GW2 for the rest of your life.
Am I legendary yet!?
(edited by Sauzo.6821)
I think Eternity was actually a joke by Anet to see if anyone would actually destroy a legendary to basically get a new name, a glowing pommel, a slightly different footprint and a whole lot of bugs. Apparently people will.
Am I legendary yet!?
Get in line behind Asura and their weapon issues. And to clarify, the end of the hilt on a sword is called a pommel, not a “knob”.
Am I legendary yet!?
Spending real life cash on pixels in any game is pretty stupid. Not gonna sugar coat it or say “if it makes you happy…”. It’s just flat out stupid. As others have said, you really need to invest in something other than that Commodore 64 your playing on so after a year or 2 when GW2 gets stale and the new “better” MMO comes out, you can actually play it. At the moment looking at those screenshots, it’s about the same as being 70% blind but buying a hi-def tv. What’s the point when you can’t even see good enough to enjoy it.
And honestly, you’re not impressing anyone since any kid can work at McDs and live in his moms basement and do the same thing. And you know Anet is laughing all the way to the bank…as well as praying that more people like the OP will play this game.
Am I legendary yet!?
(edited by Sauzo.6821)
I’m assuming you are referring to me and if that is the case, I’m not quite sure how buying a precursor with gold you earn in game is morally wrong. It’s not like legendaries are anything other than a time sink in a game which doesn’t represent anything IRL. Now sure if you buy gold and then buy pixels with real cash, I think that’s kind of stupid but to each their own there.
As it stands now, you got 2 ways to get a precursor, grind gold and buy it off the TP or grind gold and buy/craft rares or exos and throw them in the MF. Either way, you are having to grind gold. One way is guaranteed and the other is a crapshoot whether you get one. So are you saying if you buy rares/exos and throw them in the MF, that too is a morally wrong decision on getting a precursor? I mean even if they add a crafting way for precursors, you really think it won’t involve grinding gold to some extent? I at the least you need to grind 100g to buy the runestones.
Your analogy about buying a precursor being wrong is like saying its wrong to buy T6 mats, the sigil, the recipe needed to make the gift or anything else that requires gold to make the legendary. Not the defeatist way, the surest feasible way atm.
Am I legendary yet!?
So they aren’t implementing crafting a legendary. Big deal. You all act like this is something new and shocking in an MMO company. If you ever played an MMO before, you know to take whatever devs or the company say with a grain of salt and believe it when it actually happens. I knew they weren’t gonna implement or if they did, it was something that was on the back burner.
As for crying about it, ok so most of the people crying have everything except the precursor from back in mid 2013. That means you have had almost a year to save gold. If you haven’t saved 700-800g in almost a year, then you all fail. Even playing casual, its easy to save that much. If you try and say “well I bought other stuff”, well that’s you fault and it means you really didn’t want a precursor bad enough.
My advice is quit sitting on your thumbs waiting for the crafting and just save the cash and buy a precursor and be done with it. Make it happen for yourself. Play, save, grind or go home.
Am I legendary yet!?
This all sounds like buyers remorse to me. You shouldn’t gamble what you aren’t willing to lose. And if you want a sure bet, then save the gold and buy a precursor. If you have been playing since headstart and don’t have a precursor yet, then it is your fault or you are doing something REALLY wrong. It’s not that hard to make the gold in a few months of normal play and even less if you specifically grind for it.
Also you all seem to like to attach some kind of “you must be a good player if you have a legendary” tag to people with legendaries. Legendaries are nothing more than a time sink. There is no skill whatsoever involved in getting one.
So with that said, again if after almost what..2 years? you don’t have a precursor much less a legendary, then it is your fault. Don’t cry about the RNG, the mystic toilet, Anet, how life is unfair. Just either set a reasonable amount of gold you can/want to earn a day and begin saving or just play normal and once you get enough, buy a precursor. I personally just set daily goals of how much gold I wanted to earn a day and tried to meet it and since headstart I am up to 5 legendaries and working on a 6th atm. Also, I have gambled the mystic toilet twice in that whole time for a total of maybe 100g. I just dabbled here and there but didn’t count on getting anything. I just saved gold and bought the precursors I wanted. It’s just like real life, if you want a big ticket item, you save and save and buy it….or you can save a little and then go to the horse track or casino and gamble it and hope you make back triple the cash but in reality, you will probably lose it all and rage since we all know the odds are in the houses favor.

I too steered away from investing in this item. Like others have said, its a rifle which other than an engineer, isn’t gonna be used much. Sure a warrior can use it but what warrior in his right mind would drop 700g on an item which will not see much use. Not to mention pretty much any engineer worth his salt is gonna be using kits so you wouldn’t see the rifle anyways.
And you gotta also remember, Anet will constantly be putting out new skins since this game is really about the skins so in a year, that Scarlet rifle will be old news and there will be better and more flashy rifle skins out im sure.

Judging from the track record so far between Anet and the ranger class, I would be willing to bet the fix for rangers will be to give them a paper sword and a rubberband and a box of paperclips as a bow…..oh and remove the pet and not add the removed dps back to them :P
As for which class, my vote would be for neither unless you don’t mind being booted from groups here and there. But if I had to choose, either/or would work imo. This is coming from someone who has a fully geared necro and ranger, both of which are harvest bots now. I play either my guard or ele for dungeons.

I say precursor first. There hasn’t been a peep about this new so called “alternative” way to get a precursor in months and I really wouldn’t expect it anytime soon. Plus you know kitten well it isn’t gonna be some cheap 20g quest that is finished in 1 month.
With that said, I would grind and sell everything and get the precursor first. Once that’s done, then I would go for clovers. After that I would make the Gift of X. Then start saving and grinding for Gift of fortune. I would do Gift of mastery last since it costs no gold and is just smooth sailing. That’s how I did the 5 legendaries I got now and it worked well.
I wouldn’t set out solely to farm karma except to get the clovers done. That’s why I said Gift of mastery last. You can get karma from fractals and open world events while you farm for gold and T6 mats for Gift of fortune and Gift of X and by the time you are done with those, you will look up and have pretty close to the karma you need to buy the 250 obsidian shards, not to mention with all the fractal runs to buy obsidian shards too.
