Unless Anet makes Eternity shoot fireworks into the sky when you unsheathe it, I don’t think it’s worth it. I mean seriously, you are trading a whole 2nd legendary for a slightly bigger footprint and a little glowing pommel. I would rather keep the 2 swords separate and switch them out depending on my mood or give one to an alt. I mean I guess if you are looking for the “look at me, I got Eternity” attention, then grats but when I see it, I think “that poor guy just wasted a whole legendary”.
Am I legendary yet!?
Personally I quit salvaging stuff for luck essence after I hit around 160-170. I just don’t notice enough of a change to warrant all the cash I get from just vendoring all the greens and blues again. But like others have said, RNG is RNG and I think at the end of the day that plays a much bigger factor than MF does.
Am I legendary yet!?
Me personally, i’d sell it. To me, Eternity isn’t worth it. You basically give up a whole legendary for a little bigger footprint and a little glowing pommel. I’d make Juggernaut. I too am a guard and have Sunrise and Juggernaut and ever since I made Juggernaut, I never use Sunrise now. Hammer is just too good imo. Greatsword does have a nice pull in skill 5 but that’s about it to me.
As for shield, don’t waste your time. Tanking is this game is pretty well nonexistent. Just go dps and slap in either a hammer, 1h sword/x or 2h sword. Out of all those, hammer is going to be the most group and pug friendly weapon especially if you have all zerker melee in your group. Perma protection, vulns on symbols, nice dps blast finisher. Only downside is is the AA hammer symbol is light which if you blast finish yourself is area retaliation instead of fire field for might but that’s another story. Of course this all based on PvE play.

The way GW2 handles rangers reminds of the way Warhammer handled squig herders. They are both very fun classes but why can’t they get it freakin right and actually listen to some of the gripes from the community on the class.
Am I legendary yet!?
First off, get spotter and use frost spirit. Second, use dps pet like cat. Third, know when to melee and when to bow it. And by bow I mean shortbow. You can still stay in range to get buffs but be just out of mob melee range. Plus SB helps for times when you botch up a sword dodge and need to heal up some. I use sword/warhorn and shortbow personally and do fine. I run a 20/25/0/25/0 build with full zerker and it works great on top of actually giving pretty kitten good dps despite what naysayers will say.
Nothing wrong with longbow and bear as long as you use it when soloing or open world stuff. Just not in dungeons although the bear does come in handy sometimes in dungeons in a pinch but longbow never comes in handy in a dungeon cause of the range it needs.
Am I legendary yet!?
I used to run AH build way back in the day but now its just not worth it imo. Unless you got your group stacking on you in melee, you aren’t gonna get crap and most pugs, you got range people standing way in the back not getting buffs or helping with your AH. Also as others have posted, AH isn’t needed anymore really and you can contribute more by going alittle more on the dps side. I personally run a 15/15/0/30/10 hammer right now and I love it. I took pure of voice cause it does help a lot and imo the trade off of the dps for being able to spam cleanse if needed is worth it. Plus having longer symbols and symbols applying vuln helps everyone out. AH still works but if you have 2-3 guards in a group and more than 1 is AH, you will notice the killing is slow.
Am I legendary yet!?
You buy a white weapon type that matches the weapon you want to transfer from a vendor. The weapon vendor by the huntsman trainer in LA sells level 80 white weapons. You then transmute your legendary to that white weapon which makes it acct bound. Then put it in the bank and pull it out on the char you want to have the legendary. Then you use a transmutation splitter on the item and shazam you have the legendary on the new char and the white weapon back too. You will lose any of infusions though in the transfer.

It’s called inflation. Sure back when the game was released, precursors were 10g but back then how many did you know running around with 10-20g? Longer a game has been out, the more devalued its currency becomes.
As for precursors, me personally, I don’t think they should make them craftable. Keep them the way they are. They are not required for the game so leave them as a “I want” item and make people grind/work for them. If they do make them craftable, they need to make them a VERY long and involved process.
As to the OP, the value of precursors right now are based on the demand and what people are willing to pay. If no one pays the asking price, they will sit on the TP or people will be forced to lower the prices. Simple as that. I have crafted Juggernaut, Sunrise and Kudzu and bought all the precursors. Sure it was a grind and it sucked but at the end, to me it was worth it and I enjoy them. I do agree though that 800g is kind of high but if that’s what people are paying, then you will need to pay that or gamble the mystic forge or just forget about it and play the game and if you get one, great, if not, oh well. I too am a hardcore player and like I said, I just sucked it up, grinded and bought them. I’m atm debating on buying either a zap or the lover to make either the sword for my guard or shortbow for my ranger, still can’t decide.
As for quitting the game if you they don’t put in craftable precursors and you needing “goals”. Ok so say you make a legendary, then what? Your goals have all been met since it sounds like this is the final one. You will just quit anyways right?
Am I legendary yet!?
Yeah, see I want to like it since I personally love the skin but for PvE, I don’t think I can justify it. I thought maybe make it and give it to an alt like ele or Mesmer but it seems those classes don’t really benefit huge from staff builds or maybe Anet would rework staff to be more PvE friendly but yeah I don’t that is happening anytime soon. Oh well.
Am I legendary yet!?
Anyone else feel like staff on guard is underwhelming? I mean skill 3 is nice for running and skill 5 is good, and skill 4 is good before a fight but switching to apply it during a fight and being stuck in combat with crap dmg for 10 secs or so seems lame, but overall, it just seems staff is the least appealing of weapons for guard. I was thinking of making Bifrost for my guard since he’s already got Sunrise and Jugg so was looking at Bifrost to finish him off for legendaries. But i’m just not sure it’s worth the cost for staff. Anyone got any input? I have a ranger alt which I have also been kicking around the idea of making Dreamer shortbow for him instead……
BTW this is all based on PVE.

I’m a ranger rank over9000 and trust me, pvp is the focus of the game. Good thing cause rangers are worthless in dungeons.
Am I legendary yet!?
Yeah, wasen’t really directing it at you. Was more in general for all those people who forsake buffs and cleanses and try to max dps for themselves. In that case, better off as a warrior for the reasons I posted. Guards just shine for condition removal and buffs, why not capitalize on that as well as having decent dps. I ran a set with soldiers rune and it worked good too. Just depends what you feel good with. I also run a zerker set with full scholars and a PVT set with a mix of runes to maximize my buff duration. I just switch out as needed depending on the group although I don’t use my soldier set anymore since I got PoV.
Here’s the video for dps builds and why he does the stuff. He also has hammer builds etc etc. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9GKZP3oyik0

I would say like an engie or ele. If you are going for a wupwup on a guard, I sure in hell wouldn’t use it for a 1h sword. Wupwup isn’t really a dps stat set, its more of a jack of all trades. You want zerker stats for 1h sword or any dps weapon really. Maybe knights or assassins but I definitely wouldn’t use wupwup for dps. I wouldn’t even know what to get guardwise as a weapon with wupwup stats.
Am I legendary yet!?
Hammer build with vuln on symbols, longer symbols and longer protection duration is where its at for guard. Pretty much make your group gods as long as they stay in melee range. With PoV and aria, you are pretty much unstoppable but still got good dps.
Am I legendary yet!?
Either go the full 30 in honor to get PoV or skip it. PoV is really nice unless you are gonna go 20 in virtue to get the trait absolute resolution. Then take renewed focus so you can clean another 3 conditions if really needed as well as purging flames. Me personally I like the 30 in honor for PoV. That’s why I run a 15/15/0/30/10. Still got master of consecration for faster and longer WoR but also PoV. 30 in radiance is good if you use sword/X, otherwise 15 in radiance is enough to get you the blinds and resets per kill on the virtue. Check the threads, there is a guy who did a recent youtube with the highest dps build that still offers good utility. It’s a 15/15/0/20/20 build. I mean you could go with a build with max radiance but if you’re gonna do that, why not just roll a warrior who has access to more weapons, does more dps while bringing utility/banners and has higher HPs.

If you 2 really don’t like it THAT much, just reskin it with something else you like. Problem solved….

Dungeon is fine except they need to fix the hitching on the broken hologram things on the end boss. Nothing like getting caught on the corner of one of those hologram things and then insta ported into 2 or 3 whirling gears and insta killed.
Am I legendary yet!?
If I had nothing but exotics, i’d personally do hammer, greatsword, focus, scepter, 1h sword. Focus before scepter or 1h sword simply for the fact that a focus will be used in both of those builds so you would get more use out of that right off the bat.
Am I legendary yet!?
Don’t waste points in valor. Do something like 15/15/0/20/20 or some of the other builds people say. I personally do a 15/15/0/30/10 cause I like PoV too much and the 10 in in the bottom still gives me virtue buffs and faster WoR. My main weapon is hammer and scepter/focus as secondary. Sometimes I will switch out to GS when needed. Remember, guards are mostly wanted/needed for cleanses and running shortened cooldowns on shouts with PoV will do the job very well as well as giving you enough points to make a decent little dmg build too.
And built right, hammer will do very close if not the same as GS. MB is a very nice skill with quick cooldown and I’ve seen almost 7k hits out of it which rival WW from GS. And you don’t need 2H mastery to make hammer work well like you do with GS which frees up 1 trait. But each weapon has it’s perks like GS is great for rounding up guys into nice tight balls to aoe where hammer is great at stopping that mob from chasing the guy in the back.

just some thoughts. 15 in Zeal and longer lasting symbols with hammer is pretty devastating. : ))
This man speaks the truth!! That’s what I run with my hammer build and it works great.

I agree, Anet give us guards longbows!!!!
Am I legendary yet!?
Hammer by far for me. I used to be a GS guy but after playing with hammer and getting used to it, I absolutely love it. Other than that, I use scepter/focus for ranged times and really only use staff when i’m node farming for the speed boost.

Anyone know if these things will work on armor and ascended back pieces? Or only on weapons?
Am I legendary yet!?
I personally don’t hate rangers but the majority you will end up with in a group are mediocre at best and a mediocre ranger isn’t worth the spot he takes up. Problem I see with ranger is they have to work twice as hard to do something other classes can do half heartedly.
Am I legendary yet!?
Do you plan to run dungeons? PVP? Just mess around solo? Cause if you plan to do dungeons, all 3 of those classes are meh. Ranger is the worst of them and you will get booted from groups or just flat out ignored if asking for an invite. I have a 80 ranger and necro and both of them are faceroll easy for open world. Only played an engie to mid 30s so can’t really comment much there. Same with PVP since I don’t do it. But all 3 were fun to play. I personally use them as harvest bots now since I really on play my guard since trying to keep up with ascended and legendary gear on 3 toons is way too much work and my guard is a much more fun to me. My advice is play all 3 to level 30 or so and you can get the feel of them and then go with whatever one is the most fun to you.
Am I legendary yet!?
Be glad you don’t need charged lodestones since you can’t MF them with a recipe or get them outta something like light bags. Was even worse when I made Sunrise cause they were about 4g each. they have come down a ton now and are only like 1.25g each. My advice is keep grinding and buying them. About all you can do. And honestly if you are a legendary seeker, then you need to be a gold farmer at least until you get it done or if you don’t mind it taking a year to finish.
Am I legendary yet!?
I wouldn’t hold my breath for new legendaries this year. maybe more towards the end of next year. Anet mentioned something about new legendaries by end of this year but in such a short time, do you really think they will have it done? I expect them to first add new weapon sets to classes, then the legendary trinkets like they said, then ascended armor, then the new race, then maybe new legendaries. That way it gives them time to milk the current legendaries for all they are worth before introducing new ones to buy them time again for maybe something like legendary armor.
Am I legendary yet!?
Starting to sound like Doorhammer(Warhammer) style pvp

I don’t expect anything from Guardians in pug groups. Or anyone else, for that matter.
Just finished running a fractal on my Necromancer for the daily (necro is dagger/warhorn + dagger/focus, full zerker), and I got 4 random guardians with me.
Wow, what luck. This should be easy and quick. Nope.We get both swamp (mossman) and grawl, and not a single WoR or SotA was used.
To top it off, 2 of them were running around spamming Staff #1 pretty much the entire run, and when we got to Maw one of them stood for almost a full minute spamming Scepter #1 against one of the colossi, not realizing they have permanent reflection.
Haha, oh man, that’s hilarious and sad at the same time. Staff is such a useless weapon except in TA. You sir must have worse luck than me to draw 4 guards who all don’t know wtf is going on.
Am I legendary yet!?
Like I said and you just said, people can use a calculator or just go out and harvest Ori and ancient wood in the 4 maps I listed and sell it on 1 toon and then multiply that by 3 toons to get the number I listed. They can do the same with Fg champ train bags. Go get one, open it and see the silver. then figure it out. I have given hard numbers to back myself up while you have done nothing but say ’disinformation at its finest" yet you can not disprove my numbers.
As for running dungeons in blues, it CAN be done. Did I say it was efficient? No. I said it can be done. Boss big hits can be dodged or blocked using stuff like aegis etc etc. As for dps check, please tell me what dungeon has a dps check other than Arah P4. Now i’ll concede that doing stuff in blues is a bit of a stretch but this was in response to you saying “Best in slot items are required” which is bull. They are not. You can and a lot of people run all dungeons in full exos with no problem. I personally have had my dungeon master title for months and earned it with nothing but exos.
And like I said, the difference in stats between a legendary/ascended and an exotic is about 55 points of weapon strength and 6 stat points. If you think this is gonna break a dungeon run, then you need more help than the 6 points can give you. The only real advantage legendaries have at the moment is you can switch the weapons stat setup on the fly ie zerker, soldier, knights etc. So don’t try and make legendaries out to be some kind of “I WIN” item.
Keep spewing your saying of “disinformation at its finest”. I’ll keep laughing until you actually prove me wrong on the numbers I posted for bags and harvesting. I’m actually not sure if you are trying to troll me or not though but whatever, this is getting off track of the topic.

What the hell do you need an anchor guard for in dungeons unless its a fail group. Cond removal is nice though but that can be gotten with a dps build on guard anyways. Either run 30 in honor for PoV or 20 in virtues for absolute resolution, renewed focus and purging flames.
Guard healing is kind of a joke. Elementalist does better healing than us. Now I do agree, aegis, wor, sota, hallowed ground/SYG are guards bread and butter but bringing a guard as a healer is a waste. This game doesn’t need healers per say, just need people to not suck and know how to dodge/avoid the big hits.
Running soldiers gear with dps/hybrid build isn’t THAT bad. in a pug it can save your kitten but I agree in a premade, running zerker is good. I personally usually run soldiers armor with ascended zerker trinkets and back item and zerker weapon. If the group is good, ill switch out the armor for full zerker.
And comparing any DPS to warrior DPS is unfair since we all know, warriors are the golden children of Anet. Finally if you are pugging to try and do dungeons in some record time, that is your first mistake. I personally run dungeons for fun since I really don’t care if I finish the dungeon in some record time. I would rather enjoy myself and take 5 mins longer to finish, not like I’m in some rush.
Am I legendary yet!?
@LordByron
Well your experience is not good then. Like I said, that’s how I did it and I am almost done with my 4th legendary. I really don’t care if you believe me or not but i’m telling you how I did it.
Node farming is efficient. If you just run around and harvest only Ori and Ancient wood in CS, ML, FG, SC, you can make around 5-6g in about 15-20 mins. Multiply that by 3 level 80s(in my case) and that’s 15-18g for about an hours work.
Champion boxes still make decent cash. You get around 5-7s per box and in FG, the run is 6 champs with 4 WPs used at about 1.5s per WP. So 1 box is subtracted to cover WPs per round. That’s still 5 boxes which is 25-35s of pure cash per round. Each round takes about 5 mins. So in an hour, you make 3-4.2g and that’s not counting the T6 mats you get or any exos or rares. Now if you break the rares to ectos, you get even more or keep them and use them. Exos same. The T6 mats you keep for the legendary or if you have the gifts made, sell them for 15-30s each. So really atm, champ train is the fastest way to make cash. A guy in the train today said he makes about 90-100g a day doing it. I’m guessing he does it all day though. But regardless, you will make a guaranteed 3-4.2g an hour counting only the silver from the boxes.
Dungeons work too. I sometimes run SE P1/3, TA P1/2, CoF P1, HoTW P1. I do this cause I got the jewelry recipe for tose dungeons and they used to make good cash. Now only the TA ring still makes around 5-6g per ring on the TP. But that’s not daily since you need 200 tokens, so I don’t really count that. Fractals used to make really good cash but they seem nerfed now.
I am not suggesting farming for 6-8 hours. Like I said above, about 1 hour if you have 3 80s will get you 15-18g from harvesting. Then another 2-3 hours doing the champ train will get you another 6-9g in silver from bags only. So 4 hours will get you a minimum of 21g not counting cores, lodestones, T6 mats, exos, rares.
As for the outdated mantra, its not outdated. You can do any dungeon run in blue gear even as long as you can dodge and don’t suck. This game has no gear checks like Tera or WoW so again unless you completely fail at running dungeons, you don’t need legendaries. Don’t believe me? Compare the stats of an exo vs a legendary. You are talking only around 55 less weapon strength and 6 less stat points from an exo to legendary. Hardly enough to make a difference.
So my information is not disinformation. There is efficient farming and then non efficient farming. Sounds like you are doing the non efficient way…..

Problem is AH is a crutch to begin with. Unless your group is just horrible and needs an anchor guard, you are better off going something like 15/15/0/20/20 or 10/30/0/20/10 or some other hybrid/dps build. Although AH is good kind of if you are new to dungeons and don’t know bosses. But in that case you should just learn the fight and not get used to using the AH crutch.
Once upon a time, AH was seen to be extraordinary. Everyone used it and praised it. Now its considered crutch, newbie friendly, for people afraid to play, etc etc.
AH is good, there are other options but no necessary better options. Sadly, the standard AH build gets a lot done, perhaps too much. With pov and shouts it will remove conditions, give might to allies, heal you, do great damage if you are in zerk gear.
I personally do not use AH, I like meditations. AH gameplay is much to passive to entertain me, but realistically in pve I would probably be much better off running AH than a meditation build. (I primarily use hammer btw).
You are talking 2 different trees. PoV and shouts are in the Honor tree which i agree is a very good skill. The only thing AH brings is the healing you get from shouts/boons. Nothing to do with removing conditions. EM is in the honor tree as well. The only traits valor tree brings are retributive armor and purify but the rest of the traits and passives in that tree kind of suck. I too run hammer and use a 15/15/0/30/10 build just cause i like PoV and am lazy. Otherwise i would run the 15/15/0/20/20 build and use purging flames and absolute resolution with renewed focus to be able to wipe out 6 conditions.
Like i said, AH is good if your group is bad or they need an anchor guard but today most people have run these dungeons 5k times and know whats going on so they can avoid most stuff.
Am I legendary yet!?
Problem is AH is a crutch to begin with. Also 2HM skills depends on the weapon. For a GS it is nice, for a hammer it is a waste. Better off getting Writ of Persistence with the 15 in Zeal for vulns.

Let be more fair.
Legendaries are no longer skins
Legendaries are easy to craft for TP speculators
Tp speculation is awfully broken since let player gain 10-100X any other in game activity…..I also bet many TP speculators bought lot of precursor to resell …..
And i also “think” they have all interests in saying precursor will be impossible to craft.
Lets think logically.
Why anet is introducing precursors crafting?
To solve the issue of precursor cost….as they already did with crystalline dust, T6, Lodestones.Do you really think they are working for nothing?
Consider also that precusor are a good part of gold sellers incomes……
P.S. You have to “work” and “game” are words that doesn t sound good together.
Also as said its impossible to have 5 legendaries unless you are soending real money or taking advantage of the TP at other players that doesn t like THAT economic pvp MINIGAME…
The only PvP enforced on players that doesn t like it….
Actually I have never played the TP and I do have Sunrise, Kudzu, Juggernaut and almost finished with Minstrel. I have spent prolly around $50 buying gems for bank slots and bag slots on characters. I have been playing since headstart so again, making 3 almost 4 legendaries in just over a year isn’t hard. I bought the Leaf of Kudzu for 100g back during Karka event and I bought dawn for 400g and Colossus for 420g. And just recently bought Bard for 80g.
So lets take Colossus. If you do the FG champ train for say 5 hours a day, you should be able to make worst case 20g a day. Then add in Ori and Ancient wood harvesting on 3 level 80s. That’s another 16g a day. So you’re looking at around 36g a day, worst case. If you get lodestones or exotics, it adds up. Multiply the worst day x30 days in a month and you got 1080g. That is enough to almost buy 2 precursors at todays price. So again, it doesn’t take real money, just dedication for a couple months.
Like I said, if you just suck it up and do the kittenty for a month, you will have a legendary. All those bags in champ train drop T6 mats too. And about the “work” and “game” not going together, do you expect cause it’s a game, that you should be able to log in and do only stuff that YOU find fun and get rewarded endgame gear for? Hell in that case, I find it fun to log in and watch people run around, i log in every day so does that mean i should get a legendary for watching people run around? Just because it’s a game doesn’t mean you don’t have to work for stuff. Legendaries are not required, they are a luxury so if you don’t want to work for it, then you don’t need it. Simple as that. And think about game designers and programmers or anyone who WORKS creating a GAME. Look those 2 words are together and im sure on some days, those guys aren’t having fun……
Am I legendary yet!?
I don’t PVP but I do play a PVE guard and as others have pointed out, AH kinda sucks unless you got a group of people around you that you can stack boons on so you can heal. Solo, AH is kinda worthless and overall I think AH even in PVE is kinda worthless unless your group sucks and needs an anchor guard.
If anything, like bigmonto said, get either 30 in honor for PoV or 20 in virtues for absolute resolution with the elite that resets your virtues(cant remember off the top of my head) so you can wipe off 6 conditions and have 3 secs of invuln.
Am I legendary yet!?
All the people who think Anet is gonna make crafting a precursor easy are gonna be in for a surpise I bet. Remember, Anet expected legendaries to take a long time yet as those like myself who have crafted 3 or 4 or 5 legendaries knows, they aren’t hard at the moment once you got a precursor. So the only bottleneck is the precursor. I’m sure Anet knows this and is gonna make crafting them an epic adventure in itself.
And I agree with Chuck, precursors shouldn’t be craftable. I mean for Christ sakes do you feel like Anet should just mail everyone a precursor token that you take to a vendor and cash in? Quit being lazy and work for it. It’s Anets version of endgame and with how easy gold is to make now with the champ train and stuff, block out 1 month or so and suck it up and grind. You’d be surprised how much gold you could make in a month doing the train. Sure it’s boring as hell and sucks kitten but all good things come to those who work for it. Sure, some got lucky with the MF or with drops. Quit crying about how unfair it is and accept the fact that YOU are not that lucky person and YOU will need to work for yours. Flame me all you like but for those who played the old school MMOs like EQ1, EQ2, AoC etc etc, you know how long it took to get the endgame gear and how much work it took from you and a whole guild. Months of hours upon hours of camping Raster in Gukbottom for a single piece to the monk epic!! Be glad Anet doesn’t require 40 people to help you get pieces for your legendary. Legendaries here are childs play compared to stuff in other MMOs.

Champions will be placed on some sort of timer system, preventing players from farming them in a static loop as they respawn and in stead requiring players to venture to different zones and kill different champions.
I really hope they don’t put champs on a timer. The FG and CS champ trains are the only real way to make money in this game with any kind of speed since everything else has been nerfed into the ground.
Why must you have to farm? Hell i made 10g in one day from just normally playing and never went to a champ train or anything. I just went to WvW played there, did some dungeons with guildies cause they needed help, did FOTM cause of the relics. All and all I made 10g. If your only concerned about farming then your not having fun which is not what Anet wants.
It has nothing to do with “have to farm”. It’s more about having the option to CHOOSE to farm if I wanted to. Sometimes i’m feeling lazy and just want to throw in some music and just mindlessly follow the zerg and farm. I should be able to do that. And making 10g a day is peanuts when you are talking about 600-800g precursors. I can make an easy 20g just harvesting Ori and Ancient wood a day too but like I said, if i’m either done with dungeons for the day or just don’t feel like dealing with people yet still want to make cash, I should be able to choose to farm champs for cash since Anet has already nerfed the hell outta trying to farm normal mobs.
And that’s where Anet and myself disagree with you. Your looking at it through a monetary gain. I made 10g and had fun doing it. You made 20g and weren’t having much fun doing it. Anet wants to punish the monetary view and wants people to instead focus on having fun. Whats fun running around a big circle killing the same things over and over? Nothing is fun. If I get a precursor I am selling it but I will never go out of my way to buy it. And 10g a day is not peanuts when compared to 600g precursor that was designed to take a long time to get in the first place. Its like trying to equip my 10 characters with ascended gear. Which do you think will take longer? People were complaining about how long it would take to get that much laurels, but I don’t care cause I am having fun doing what I want. If you belief that you need everything right now then you will have less fun.
I am not interested in legendaries at all either cause none of them works with my end goal for my characters. My goal is to get the “The Emperor” achievement which requires equipping 90 pieces of culture armour. Am I rushing to achieve my goal? No.
Anet nerfs farming spots cause they don’t want you to have the option to farm as its not fun and should never be encouraged.
Again you are making assumptions about me. I did have fun grinding 20g farming ori and ancient wood. And you say Anet punishes monitary view? Is that why they nerfed all the good drops and farming but added gems for real cash and have a fully stocked real cash store? Not to mention everything about this game screams grind. Look at crafting. Look at how much stuff requires ecto, charged lodestones etc yet you cant grind them. Why? Cause Anet wants you to have to buy gems with real cash and then convert to gold and buy it off the TP. It makes them lots of money and again it shows by how many cool skins you can get by “fun” vs how many skins you get by “grinding”.
And to say grinding is not fun. To you maybe but to another it might be fun. I came from games like EQ 1, EQ2, WoW, AoC, Lineage 2, Aion, Tera etc where grinding was normal and actually needed if you wanted to progress. So for me i’m used to it and don’t mind it one bit. Now some like you don’t like it which is fine but this is why Anet needs to offer both so everyone can be happy. How does me wanting to and being able to grind affect you? just like you not wanting to grind wouldn’t affect me.
And to contradict your final statement, Anet nerfs farming cause it will directly affect their gem store since if you can grind 100g an hour, why would you need to buy gems with real cash? You could just convert gold to gems and buy armor skins and stuff off the gem store that way. They don’t nerf farming cause it isn’t fun. They care less prolly what people think is fun or not to an extent. It’s about the bottom line.

Champions will be placed on some sort of timer system, preventing players from farming them in a static loop as they respawn and in stead requiring players to venture to different zones and kill different champions.
Even if they do it – that won’t prevent the players from farming them as best as possible.
The whole problem with the game right now is not the zerg farming. It’s not a good thing but it is not the CAUSE. it is a SYMPTOM of the problem and the problem is that a good part of the player base are interested in JUST making money fast and getting the stuff they want.I’m part of this sort of group. This is the mentality I go in this game with – having fun for me is getting the stuff that I want. In GW2 that stuff is very expensive ( in may Twilight cost me 1300 gold. One run of CoF gave around 75 silver. do the math.)
They’ve taken nearly EVERY effective way of making decent money in the game OUT of the game.
You can’t farm anything effectively. It’s all time gated, drop gated, or some other form of restriction is in place.
Not all people want or feel the need to venture into the TP.
If they want people to stop zerging champs, or going for the min/max approach to everything they have to realize that there’s a gap – a very wide – a TOO WIDE – gap between the shinies that people want and the means through which they can obtain them. What are you going to do once you have all the things you want?
And that’s where the dangling carrot of new skins and stuff come into play. As long as Anet continues to add new skins or gear, you will always have something to grind for. I too am like Harper, I find most of my fun in grinding for the stuff I want. I also like doing new content but after a few times, it’s no longer new so then I focus on grinding for the gear/items I want.
Ok, so say you and Harper had your dreams realized and ArenaNet decided to get rid of grinding completely. Log in, talk to NPC X, boom – any piece of digital kit this game offers is yours for the asking.
What would you do then?
Because if I understand you correctly, you’d stop playing. Since you explicitly say “I find most of my fun in grinding for the stuff I want.” Why on earth would ArenaNet extending the grind, you explicitly say you enjoy, in any way be a bad thing for you? If anything they are extending your enjoyment.
No, I never said to get rid of grinding. Quite opposite actually. I like the grind, that’s why I don’t want them to nerf the champ train. I’d actually like them to allow us to farm normal mobs with some kind of a decent droprate. I think legendaries are fine now although they should make em a little harder. I’m working on my 4th one and I even took 2 months off of the game. If Anet makes champs have a longer cooldown, that will kill champ farm grinding. They already did it with CS mobs when they reduced their drop rates to almost nothing so really in effect Anet IS killing the grind which is the part that makes me sad since I don’t find fun with all this gated stuff. I can just log in, do my dailies and the time gated stuff and then log out since I cant grind since they nerfed all the drops. See my point?

@Lunchbox
Ok i’m sorry, I won’t reference Alpha anymore. How about we talk about how good ranger pets are in fractals then? I mean they do great on Maw when half the time the pet is targeted. Regardless of what others say, rangers are passable in dungeons but they are on the lowest rung of effectiveness imo. As I’ve stated before, I wouldn’t kick one from the group but I sure in hell wouldn’t cry if he left and even better yet, if the ranger just didn’t join. And this is coming from someone who has a ranger, played it for a long time and even made a legendary on it.
And regardless of pet HP or toughness, they still pretty much get 1 shotted by bosses and possess no way to dodge or stay behind the boss(unless the ranger manually pulls it and moves and then sicks it back in etc etc).
Don’t get mad at me cause I call it as it is. Blame Anet for a year of not fixing ranger pets and pet AI. Like I said, I love playing my ranger in open world but in dungeons I feel i contribute much more on my guard or even my necro than i do on my ranger.
@Shadowpuppet
Even if i conceded that rangers bring as much dps as a warrior and ONLY dps, it still doesn’t warrant giving them a spot since the utility they bring doesn’t surpass the utility other classes can bring as well as having the same dps. The thing about fitting in, sure a ranger might fit in IF they melee and stay with the group but since most of the ones I’ve grouped with are off in the back, if i play anchor guard for my group, that’s one less person i can use to heal myself off of and keep the boss planted so the rest of the group can go full out. And again i won’t even start with the ones who do that AND drop healing spring in the back on themselves and completely miss the other 4 people around the boss…..
I’ve met some very good rangers but 90% of them I’ve grouped with might as well be a bot since all they do is sit in the back about 50 miles from the group and pewpew…and still manage to somehow get downed…..
Bottom line is if you want to play a ranger, go for it. Get 80 and do dungeons and see how it goes from your own experience. If you pug, don’t be surprised if you get kicked. I know it still happens cause 2 days ago I was in a group where it was me as guard, another guard, warrior, Mesmer and a ranger and they booted the ranger to replace him with another warrior. Needless to say the run went smooth but I still see rangers getting kicked. But those thinking of rolling a ranger, go for it. It’s not like it costs anything and worst case, you will have an xtra char to farm Ori and Ancient wood with :P

They can just restrict it to characters that already have the story done and as for cultural armor or anything that is race specific, put in a disclosure box when you use a race change token saying that you will no longer be able to use any of your old race specific gear. I mean seriously, how many people actually even look at the story once they have finished it.

I can make an easy 20g just harvesting Ori and Ancient wood a day too but like I said, if i’m either done with dungeons for the day or just don’t feel like dealing with people yet still want to make cash, I should be able to choose to farm champs for cash since Anet has already nerfed the hell outta trying to farm normal mobs.

dude u want precursors to drop to u or something ? u r not supposed to get cool stuff everytime because if that happened the items will have no value
Are you referring to me? If so, no. I prefer they leave precursors as is and don’t even put in a crafting way to get them. I’m fine with how they are. I’m working on my 4th legendary now, it’s really not hard, just people whine cause they want instant gratification.
I’m referring to how for me teq isn’t worth the effort since this game doesn’t really have “bragging rights” like other MMOs with 1st kills and guild competition. But also for how hard he is, the loot table is pretty kittenty. They should have added a chance to get a unique weapon skin off him, not just a recycled ascended GS skin that is green/black with some crappy stats.
People will always opt for the easiest and fastest way to make money since it’s human nature. If Anet wants people to do these big events, they need to add something unique to make people want to devote the time needed to do them. Something like each dragon has a chance for a unique skin, not some recycled skin with a new color but an actual new skin. I mean honestly, it really can’t take that long to think up something for each weapon type based on the dragon type. Like Teq weapons maybe drip black ooze and let off green fumes like poison, Jormag weapons can have snow/ice crystals falling off them, and shatterer weapons can be purple weapons with a translucent purple glow around them.

Lol I tried once and it was enough for me. After seeing how the new sword skin is just an ascended GS which I think are ugly to begin with, I was thinking why waste my time here when I could either do dungeons or the FG champ train and make cash.

Sure in hell glad I got mine at around 70-80s each. I love jugg, hammer is so much fun. And basically this is the same as charged lodestones were. Bottom line is suck it up and buy em, MF em, or buy bags and open them. Legendaries come down to grind hard and fast and get one soon or play the game at a relaxed pace and get one in a year. How bad do you want a legendary?
And even if the TP only shows 200 or so for sale, if you put a buy order in high enough, I guarantee you will get enough to make one…or 10. I put a buy order in for my 250 and got it filled in prolly like 2 hours.

In dungeons, either bow is worthless. Go 1h sword or go home. As a guard I hate those rangers who sit in the back and pewpew and then drop the kitten healing spring on themselves all the way in the back while the rest of the group is up in the mobs face. But then again, whenever a ranger joins the group i’m in, I let out a little sigh as I know the run is gonna prolly take longer than it should.
