For a more direct answer, don’t make anything untill we see the whole package and more importantly all weapons. Sword/Sword is starting to shape up quite well.

(And yes, I said Sword/Sword and not Sword/Dagger)

How do you know about dual swords? So far, we’ve seen only sword MH and dagger OH.

If you have played GW 1 you should know it’s not about stats or new higher gear tier. It’s not WoW or the classic dumb MMO carrot-mode.

Back when I played Factions, Nightfall, Eye of the North, it was mostly for the story and new skins, new skills (something we won’t really have sadly) and all the new stuff. New map to explore etc. It’s refreshing. I remember that I greatly enjoyed Nightfall back when it was released. I suspect it should be the same with HoT, even though I really dislike anything that is Sylvari related. Nature & tree fanboys blablabla is kinda boring. Something involving Charrs or Norns is far more interesting imho.

Well if I do use burst skills I’ll lose the damage bonus from Berserker Power (+15% damage) so I don’t use the F1 that often.
With the Crack Shot trait it’s possible to hit multiple targets if you get yourself in good position.

People usually run Axe/Mace+GS because that’s the first thing they see on the metabattle website. I’m not a huge fan of it, and I always like to have a ranged weapon to breath a bit when I’m low HP.

Scar.1793

Hi,
I’ve been playing my Warrior since launch, as far as ranged weapons are concerned I always thought Longbow was better for both condi and power builds. So I always used the Longbow.
After some thinking I tried to compare the raw damage of both on dummies since I’m using a berserker gear. Overall it went more or less like this :

- Longbow :
410-500 (x2) auto-attack
around 2700-2900 Arcing Arrow

- Rifle :
810-950 auto-attack
4700 Volley

These are numbers on dummies which means no crit. I also find the auto-attack faster on the Rifle. While having much less support abilities (blind/immob), I think it could be as decent as Longbow for a backup weapon when you’re low HP and don’t want to be a sitting duck waiting for HS to get you back on track.

Besides the utility why would a power build use the Longbow compared to the Rifle ? (Not to mention rifles look more kitten).

No offense.

You obviously NEVER played Guild Wars 1, so don’t start like you know the race inside-out.

The Charrs that looked closer to a human standing posture were Flame Legion Shamans/Monks/Ele/Necro:

The Race is done correctly and fits the Charrs from GW 1. The only problem is that Anet always create armors on humans then export them to Charr without really working on the textures and models. That’s why I only play warrior on my Charr and couldn’t keep up with the leather thief. At least in heavy armor there are some interesting stuff.
If it wasn’t for the dudes playing 90% of the time human/norn females to see plastic boobs maybe Anet could have worked a bit more on Charr’s armor.
But since 2012 it hasn’t changed and even new added armors have the tail clipping issue.

You’re aware that Thieves/Mesmers/Guardians have a power based MH sword right ?
And that the only condition based one is on war.

Yea, but no dual wield. Except for mesmer, but it’s not truly melee.

Of the 5 professions that can use swords, only one of them deals condition damage with it. Hell, among non-warrior sword skills, there is only 1 sword skill that even inflicts a damaging condition (Serpent Strike), and that’s mostly useful for the dodge.

You said it, one, and with a 15 sec CD, good luck doing decent dps with that. Even when used with Rip.

you got the old skills Diovid, it has been updated, and Sword MH is more a power-based weapon (thank God, I was tired of the stupid Sword=Condition only philosophy).
In my case, I just hope to get a power Sword offhand to dual wield, but since they use axe offhand I guess mace & sword offhand will come in time too.

I always found that having a bleed cap was dumb, in wow and many other games same classes can have the same bleeds and other negative effects on the target, why should it be different in a map that can get full (= limited number).
It’s just pointless and cripple condition builds in PvE, they already have a tough time because they need time to build up the dps while zerkers just faceroll content.

I’m also shocked that after 2 years people still use the same old builds because nothing has change to give people more real and viable choices.

I enjoy greatswords for many reasons more, especially because they make the best use of GW2’s graphical engine and animations (other weapons are usually too thin or small, which make them hard to see in the middle of all particle effects and while we watch our character’s backs). Also, Twilight and Sunrise are some of the best looking skins in the entire game, for their simple and elegant use of particle effects. Over half of the legendaries in this game are either too silly or too busy with details. I’d rather have something “uninspired” that looks perfect, than something “original” that looks crappy.

wow, the GS legendaries are the exact same model, just with a little modifications on the guards, then edit the textures. Done. You got multiple GS legendaries looking exactly the same. If that’s original to you then you haven’t seen some great work by let’s say simple modders from Elder Scrolls’ modding community, or any decent artist for that matter. And when I say original, I’m not talking about perfection, I’m talking about something that really looks baddass and not like the generic weapon you see in every RPG. But if you like them that’s ok, however a lot of people use them because they are most of the time, one of the most efficient weapon (at least in PvE).

Also, I don’t see where they make the best use of the game engine, if you’re talking about the particle effect, they can add that to any weapon if they wanted to. Animations are also weird on quite a lot of races, I heard it looks good on female human but I never played one. And as a Charr, my weapons are not tiny, same goes for Norns. Humans are alright, it’s supposed to look proportional to your race, so if you play Asura it will be tiny.

Twilight is a perfect fit for the Revenant, and GS legendaries are some of the most popular. Revs not having GS for the sake of needlessly originality is a poor and selfish argument. I hope anet devs are a bit more reasonable on this.

A melee staff is cool, but it’ll be restricted by skin selection.

Greatsword is popular for the simple reason that Anet clearly favorited that weapon type not only by making it mandatory in PvE but also by adding multiples legendaries ( and by the way they are all uninspired in my opinion), whereas other weapons get the short stick. Bad design if you ask me, if we did have a real choice like in Guild Wars 1 you would have seen things in a different way ( hint: diversity).

Wall of text crits you for 9,000,000 damage.

Also, opinion piece. GW2 has surpassed the GW1 playerbase by far and has to deal with way tougher competition than GW1 ever had.

You’re drunk, playerbase doesn’t necessarily means the game quality is legendary.
Look at WoW. Tougher competition than GW1??? Drunk indeed, have you ever tried HoH? or the arenas? Those where real fights.

Guild Wars 2 : lame down state, less punishing, no build crafting (you barely have choices compared to GW1), better stories in all campaigns especially Prophecies, Factions and Nightfall and sooo many other things that I cannot think of right now.

I do remember GW1 to be very populated too with many foreign players such as koreans.
If GW2 is more popular now it’s because back in the day video games weren’t that popular as it is today with all the industry. Thank also to the Buy to Play they can keep some players otherwise it would have failed. But I guess you never played the first Guild Wars during it’s golden days before GW2 made you farm through the first game for skin rewards.

War sword won’t get fixed ever, last time they just changed final thrust to make it more dull and before that made flurry a condition-only burst, it used to be very good.
Also mesmer isn’t really melee. I tried it :p

That isn’t S/S in the concept art. It’s S/D. There were leaked upcoming cash shop items – a standard katana (sword) and a much shorter version of the same skin (dagger).

I don’t know, looks more like broadswords to me rather than katanas, and daggers aren’t wielded that way but it’s an art so..
I just find that having access to MH and OH axes/maces and not sword really weird. Anyway time will tell.

I don’t think theres anything wrong with Warrior’s dual swords, its the issue with the GW2 PVE elitist groups that run round only using Axe MH and GS.

If you want to use dual swords, use it, and tell them to know their place. Nobody has the right to tell you what build to use. I myself use dual sword Warrior in PVE and have absolutely no issues. Conditions are also getting buffed in HoT, so even better.

I don’t think Revenant will have dual swords, because it hasn’t been given any other dual wield weapons (yet), but I think Sword/Axe on Revenant will be a popular direct damage combination.

oh christ, I hope they will have Offhand swords, they can use axes and maces so why not swords just like the concept art? It would be weird.
I do play S/S A/S, it’s a fine combination, I just don’t go GS anymore since I find it so boring and dull. I don’t care about the PvE Elitist in a game, if they’re not happy I just leave and find normal people.

Well you clearly haven’t read all the news regarding Heart of Thorns, because condition builds aren’t going to be weak for much longer, the condition cap is either being greatly raised or possibly even removed at or before the release of the upcoming expansion.

I read that, but conditions will still need some time to get decent dps, and most of the time it’s enough for the target to be dead by some power builds. Raising the cap would not fix the issue, especially in World Boss Events or the crappy damage against structures. For all these reasons and many others I don’t like conditions on a warrior.

Since the release of GW2, I’ve always been dissapointed by how Anet just pigeonholed every classes to specific builds, leaving the rest to dust.

In GW1 I always played with a sword, and it felt good. In GW2, it doesn’t, if you play a dual sword warrior it’s either condition or do low damage, so in order to be competitive and viable you need to go either MH Axe or as usual Greatsword.
(in PvE at least, but even in PvP War S/S-LB condi isn’t that great)
Worst thing is, after 3 years it hasn’t changed one bit.

After a short while I got tired of all this and left, until I took the time to check the new stuff about the expansion and saw this :
Dual Swords Revenant Concept Art

So after some research, I’m starting playing again with the hope that Revenant will have dual swords that won’t feel weak/pointless compared to other weapon. And for ONCE, axe or mace aren’t better.

However I don’t know if it’s a bug or because I used my warrior, but the MH sword still look a bit weak in numbers compared to warrior’s weapon-skills both axe and sword, at least that’s how it looks.

What do you think ?

S/S Warrior in dungeons.

in Warrior

Posted by: Scar.1793

Scar.1793

Hey,

condi war S/S in dungeon is average despite the gameplay being original and interesting. You don’t do as much damage as a full berserker gear (still with S/S).

Before I left GW2 because you can’t change weapon skills (you know Guild Wars 1 build-style), I used S/S – Rifle with Berserker gear and traits focused on damage/crit.
You can do a lot of damage, high crit chances/damage, making auto-attacks crit for 1.800-2.500, final thrust around 10.000-20.000, and impale+rip around 1.500+6.000-8.000, if it wasn’t for the looooong cds it could have been a decent DPS spec, but the problem is that Axe auto-attack does crazy amount of damage and one single hundred blades with a LOWER cooldown is far more effective in terms of damage.

In dungeons though, it can be alright if you got the right teammates… heck even random ones can do the trick. But it’s really annoying when you know you can do way more but with weapons you don’t like.

I mean chosing your weapons skills and having a wider choice in terms of skills you can choose.

I quit the game last December and wanted to know, since I didn’t like to be forced to play “meta” to do well in PvE. In Guild Wars 1 any weapon could be good as long as you had the good build for it.
So far, I searched and still there’s nothing about that. So I guess the answer is no.

Could anyone confirm ? And don’t start about the healing skills from the Living Story, that was a joke.

If they add new weapon and utility skills (not one by one but in good packs) maybe I’ll not leave the game in a few months. Until then, it’s been more than one year people played with the same skills over and over. People get tired fast and no wonder people are looking at other MMOs if they’re stuck with very few ways to play their class (we are soon in 2014… seriously).

Guild Wars 1 worked well because it had the “deck building” thing, which made people always looking on how to improve their build. Also it had build diversity, a thing that is really lacking in Guild Wars 2 and it’s a shame for a “Guild Wars” game

You are going to put out at least OK DPS with almost any weapon set as long as you are full zerk gear.

It’s all I needed to know, nothing more nothing less. I felt ok with it, but I’m not a pro PvE player, I just needed opinions about it.
Also, I do see the 4warz1mes groups running around, sorry if I’m not up to date. I haven’t played the game for a long time. It’s been a few weeks I started playing again.

I’m mainly a PVE player and i like to do dungeons sometimes. I know that warriors are meant to charge into battle and tackle whatever is thrown at them. But i want to be a survival warrior and at the moment I find toughness to be a difficult stat for me. Now some of you might think that I’m out of my mind in thinking this is a difficult stat to work with with since toughness reduces the direct dmg you take. But from what I’ve read enemies are more likely to attack you if you have a high toughness rating. I’m mainly the first to die because of this. Even when i back off to heal up they still go after me. Now keep in mind that I’m only lvl 56 and just came back to the game after 4 months. Any help would be appreciated.

Op where did you get your info from?

Forum, live test.. around 2K8-3k armor ennemies are more likely to focus you. Against a boss it can be useful for your zerker mates, but when there’s a lot of trash mobs sometimes it can be really annoying.

Guardian vs Warrior in terms of DPS

Guardians have less base HP, because they will have defense stuff no matter what. However they can have a good dps too. But warriors can have very good dps/burst both in raw damage & condition damage.

[PVE] Question about dps

in Warrior

Posted by: Scar.1793

Scar.1793

Hi fellow warriors,
I’ve been playing with Greatsword and axe, but I got quite bored of it.
So I wanted to play with the weapon I like the most : the sword. However not as a condition build, but power build.
With a full berserker set, this is what I can do at level 80:

Also, I use a rifle as secondary weapon, I do use Volley and Killshot, both do around 11k to 17k+ damage. Final Thrust hits for around 5k5 with ennemies above 50% hp.

I know it may not be the best way to do damage, but I think it’s fairly decent. The auto-attack is quite fast but I’m aware that axe does far more damage with its crazy auto-attack. Do you guys think it’s decent? I did quite well in dungeons and the block stance on low cd is very useful to avoid wasting stamina on a dodge.

EDIT: sigh… the [img][/img] doesn’t seem to work with any of my links.

[PVE]Does ArenaNet favors Greatswords?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Scar.1793

Scar.1793

Since the Betas, the greatsword has been the best weapon to deal massive damage very fast (I’m thinking of Warriors and also some Guardians).
ArenaNet even released three models of legendary greatswords, whereas there are only one model for each type of weapon.
This proves to me that they focus more on greatswords because that’s what the majority use, just like they focus much more on humans and not fixing Charr armors clipping issues, because female humans are what the majority of players use.

At any rate, how do you want people to try anything other than greatsword since it gives so much damage with low cooldown? Hundred Blades has a 8 seconds cooldown, even 6 seconds with the right trait for more spam. Most warriors in PvE use either greatswords and sometimes axes. Some people do want to try something else, but we obviously cannot because when you compare the damage done, greatsword is always better no matter what in PvE thanks to low cooldowns and huge base damage skills.

As I said, how do you want people to try new builds like people used to in Guild Wars 1 if you give us very few and limited possibilities with weapon-skills and the fact that power based builds works way better than conditions? I thought the game was sold with the “play your way” idea. An idea that makes games like Skyrim work great because whatever you want to play it will be powerful.
Guild Wars 1 gave you the possibility to make the weapon do what you wanted, because you had the freedom to really play as you wished. That is why people played the game from Prophecies to Eye of the North with more than 3.000 hours without huge pauses of more than 3 months. That is in my opinion one of the assets that made Guild Wars 1 really interesting: diversity with balanced skills and the will to improve your own build.

It has been more than one year, and I’m tired of seeing that I cannot try something new with competitive damage since I cannot create a build and select which skills to use from the second to fifth slot.
At least give the weapons the ability to be good when specialized either in conditions or raw damage.

It is indeed dissapointing and frustrating to not do better than the A weapon because you cannot change how some of the skills of the B weapon works.
And the day I will stop seeing in the Looking for Group tab things like 4 full Berserker wars, 1 mesmer, no ranger, will be the day something has really changed in the game in PvE.

Sincerely,

The reason nick asking for buff final thrust is bc sword has nothing else but 11111111 spam till target get under 50% hp. Completely 0 pressure. Sup? Any noob gonna disagree with me or say swap weapon? My second weapon is ranged one which i will use while being kited, not when i am in melee range.

Im not sure if final thrust needs a buff, but i know that flurry does need a huge one for power build. Right now theres nothing to be worried about fighting against someone with sword as they cant do anything but smash 1

You have a second weapon set and an off hand to play with also. Sword is great for sticking to your target while still maintaining decent DPS but you have to use your weapons swaps to be an effective warrior.

See? This is why I loved Guild Wars 1, you could make the weapon to suit your gameplay. Here in Guild Wars 2 you’re just stuck with what you have and you guys think that if a weapon was designed this way, so it must be.
The sword is like a greatsword, only it’s bigger. Why then one does mainly conditions and the other heavy damage?

GS/Sword + Sword build for warriors?

in Warrior

Posted by: Scar.1793

Scar.1793

Hello
I can only give you one advice, in Guild Wars 2 you can’t create your gameplay with any weapon you like (unlike Guild Wars 1, which is in my honest opinion a huge shame).
In other words, I tried many times to make the swords worth something with Power builds, Sword/Axe and many other combinations, just to end up with the same conclusion : Axe main hand will ALWAYS be better in terms of raw damage in Guild Wars 2 ( in Guild Wars 1 I could make a build that wasn’t all about bleeds and do huge damage, in this game you’re stuck with 4 weapon skills).

You can try GS+S/S but sword offhand is designed for condition builds, sure it does decent damage with a Power build, however keep in mind that an auto-attack from Axe will be more than enough to out damage this 15 sec cd skill.
If you go with GS+S/x it will be all about using Flurry>instant swap> Hundred Blades in PvP. It’s useful but not that great in my honest opinion.
In PvE, I haven’t dared to try, but I bet it won’t be as good as a pure GS build that swarms this game.

I recently came back to the game and tried an old build that worked very well with S/S+Longbow, and wow in PvP you just see your enemies going down fast, the dots do very good damage on them if you got the right build, control(blind/snare) and bleeds that can tick around 800/900 to 3300 damage depending on what you do. In PvE I’ve never tried but I just finished to get exotic Rabid Gear so I’ll try this tomorrow, but as always GS will be better in PvE because Anet doesn’t seem to care about condition builds (all classes) and their issues in PvE. It’s all about going Zerk and spamming 2.
Which I think is really sad for a game that promoted to have variety in builds… Ha! Just look at all you could do in Guild Wars 1.

Try mixing some berserker/knight stuff so you’ll get a decent attack power/crit chance + toughness which is very useful in sPvP. So I suppose in WvW it’s also good.

Flurry+100b is a very nice combo too.

You know, TC, you raise an excellent question. I’d actually love to see a developer justify ascended armor after they told us ascended weapons were only being added to “bridge the game between exotic and Legendary”. If there’s no Legendary armor, then what gap is there to be bridged? I actually find that rather insulting.

Which of the following statements do you guys find to be the most insulting?

“ascended gear is to be a bridge between exotic and Legendary”

“everyone, including casual players, should have the best statistical gear by the time they reach level 80”

“we didn’t expect players to get exotic so quickly” + “we intended to add ascended gear from the start”

“we want everyone to be on an equal power base”

“we don’t make grindy games, we leave the grind to other MMOs”

“we don’t have to add content to keep players playing as long as possible” + “we can focus on what’s fun”

“in this game, the grind is all about cosmetic upgrades, vertical progression”

I wonder if they really take the time to sit and actually think about the updates. I mean look at GW1 : more skills, more builds freedom, you were grinding for SKINS not for stats. This game will soon be like a WoW 2 if Devs keep going that way with the gears.
We want FUN content, not grinding stuff, it’s boring and takes player away from Guild Wars 2 simply because there are games that are full of fun and not grind (GTA games, Saints Row, Left 4 Dead, and lot lot more).

You know, its nice if every line had its own way of doing something, it builds diversity so everyone isn’t in the same spec.

Do you know how games work, or are you just complaining to complain?

If you checked some of my post here and there you would have seen that I’m never complaining and that I’m sad that Anet didn’t made lots of weapons skills like in Guild Wars 1.
How do you want us to see your post as serious with all the imba things you’re asking for. It’s just nonsense.

sPvP - Ideas to "Shave" the Current Warrior

the problem is warrior gets so much with so little . For a hero to be tanky he has to build tanky , or to build for dps to do dps . Warrior can build for dps and be tanky and have sustain . That is the problem , there is no trade off . Hence why there is a need to shave

Seriously, I wonder if you think before posting.
Warriors don’t have reliable mechanics to survive easily in a direct fight (stealth, necro morph, free evades on skills [but Whirlwind attack 3/4 sec] etc). We rely heavily on damage and the big base health pool/heavy armor we have, and a few traits/skills that help us to survive. What’s wrong with having something to negate some damage for a few seconds ? Can’t you just watch your ennemy buffs instead of zerging mindlessly like in WvW ?

Unlike Thief we can’t engage a fight and just go :" oh man I’m dying let’s get out of here" and be at 30 miles away with stealth and shortbow.

We don’t have a heavy armor to be squishy you know. If you build toughness you’ll have between 18-20k max HP. Condi specs will get you easily (despite Berserker Stance, seriously it’s easy to counter it. Just cc/kitting.)
If you build your warrior to be tanky you’ll lose a lot of attack power. So there’s of course a trade off. It’s just that you’re raging so much that everything the class have is wrong for you. Chill and start to think before posting and when fighting in PvP.

All this QQ you’re all a shame. Warriors aren’t at the top they’re fine atm.

Here, shave your head with this :

Hi there,
After rerolling a Charr Warrior, and using my previous character name for him (Hellfang). I was looking forward to make that name “real” if you know what I mean.
So far the weapon that got my attention weren’t the legendaries (which btw are really ugly but it’s just my opinion) but Volcanus, the fiery greatsword.

I looked at the prices on my server and it’s around 360-380 golds. I do not know if crafting it or instant buy would be cheaper.
So I came here looking for some advice. Anything else than farming CoF 1? I’m slowly trying to save my money, selling yellow gear, useless crafting material that I won’t use for my professions (Master Chef & Jeweler but my char is low lvl in both).

So is there anything else that I can do to have a good income of money ?

Would 2700-2800 armor be enough to not take dirty hits in the face and go down by random attacks from npcs ?

Dual Sword Flurry Build

I used to play with Sword & GS using the Flurry > 100b. But if you use the condition build you see in the video, not only it’s funny, but you don’t rely on a single skill to burst your target. And you have a great resistance.

Kiting? but that means the bsos is moving…

Errr yessss, NPCs can move and follow players you know
To understand my point in a few steps :
low hp > get out of melee range > swap weapons > regen with the Healing Signet+Adrenal Health (it’s fast) > go back to melee

Its doing well at what ? Your amor and traits make no sense to me. Your thoughtness is too high and your crit damage is too low. if you want a good mix of damage and survability you can use soldier armor+ruby orbs, berserker weapons and berserker trinkets. That will drop your thoughtness to ~1300 and will up your crit damage to 70-80 with enough precision to make use of that crit damage.
As for traits why would you put points in defense ?! soldier’s armor + proper dodging is more than enough except maybe for high level fractals
http://www.guildwars2guru.com/topic/83915-axemace-dps-build-for-dungeons-and-fractals-62513/
Have a read. And before a boss battle, where you know you’ll need range, just change either the gs or the axe for the rifle. But that is done before the boss encounter. Not all the way to it

How can 57 % crit chance be too low ? It means half my hits will be crits. And if I feel the need I can add SoF to get to 65%. (61% if I use berserker trinkets only but I use 1 soldier amulet for a bit of health)
Having high crit is ok, but I don’t feel the need to go with 70-80%. Just pop a Fury boon and that’s it.
What (again) people fail to realise here is that I greatly prefer being tough than going full berserker and lick the floor each fight like so many Warriors I’ve seen so far. (in less than 2 seconds). They waste time for the team and lose DPS. It’s cool to have high power, high crit, but if you can’t be able to make use of them because you got hit by random attacks that you did not see (yes you are not in Matrix you can’t dodge every hit). It’s pointless, especially in a game that has no real trinity classes (except for DPS).

Also, using a Soldier gear instead of Knight will make me gain like 1k5 hp and lose crit chance (with full berserker trinkets). The Berserker set is even more interesting if you’re looking for increasing your crit chance lol.
I add points in Defense because like I said, I like to be both resistant and offensive with a heavy armor class, and some traits fits perfectly with the Strength tree, the Greatsword, and the skills. Cull of the Weak, Berserker’s Power, Adrenal Health + Healing Signet in case you were wondering.
I don’t have this exact stuff yet because I got my char lvl 80 a few days ago, but still with the karma exotics I’m doing fine in dungeons. The purpose of this build is to be able to deal a good amount of damage without being a wet paper that spend its time in the down state. At first I wanted to play with both sword and greatsword. But the sword have almost 0 synergy with the greatsword. Except if you go Flurry> 100b in PvP. But a condition build will be more suited for doing heavy damage without relying on 100b.

By the way, did you see the last link I put here ? It has a ranged weapon. Or did you even read that I spit on axes ?
