Maybe if they made rare skins and stuff drop from regular mob areas we would start to see more life in the pve side of things, which would definitely increase the amount of DE’s that could happen and people could participate in. Sometimes you don’t have time to complete a dungeon over and over, sometimes you like to just take 10 minutes to go kills some mobs and have that hope something nice will drop.

Well then why was I promised that the game would include everything I loved about the first game? and they stopped caring about gw1 so I can’t go back and am now stuck with this “new” direction.

I just loved how long the wait was, the repeated messages from ANET saying they wanted to wait until the game is ready, and now it seems so fundamentally flawed that you can’t really fix it without an eraser and starting fresh.

@OP, I agree with some of what you say. The combat system in Guild Wars 2 isn’t as deep as it was in Guild Wars 1. That’s a trade off. Guild Wars 1 became impossible to balance and it causes no end to troubles.

Which is strange because i’m seeing just as much imbalance here in GW2 even with the trade off as we did in Guildwars 1, so i don’t believe for a second the combat system here is any better..especially the lack of skills part..

It in my opinion is because they balance the game in a tiny part very few play spvp..and let the other two parts pve and wvw get messed up..

This is really it. There is always going to be a certain percentage of stuff that isn’t usable, only because theres something better. With less things better, there’s less things to use.

So, I got hacked.

It’s just everything is based off of a gimmick almost, and this mostly concerns the classes. There gimmick is their class mechanic and by about level 30 you have all but mastered everything, and even if you haven’t your just as effective almost.

It’s like they didn’t include ONE thing for the old playerbase. They didn’t include sweet lore built off the old lore, they sorta scrapped it and ruined it with the whole dragon thing in EOTN. They ruined the MtG style deck building, which, although was rather hard to balance, they could have easily had many customization options with so many less skills than gw1, and could keep restrictions about how many of a certain type of skill you could have so they could limit all the possibilities in less restrictive way than now.

And with the sweet art team I thought the armor and weapons would look a little better. Nothing is really eye catching besides the animated armor and heavy armor. And only the legendary weapons are really anything worth writing home about, and theres like one useful one, if that for each profession besides anything that uses greatsword in which you get spoiled by have two weapons to choose from, whoopie.

The combat in this game is very “free” there are not too many skills you cant do on the move. It all flows well with the ability to roll. There are option to make your screen shack when you use skills to give you less of a “wiffing” feeling as you put it. Do you want there to be a “stun” like hit for each time you hit some one? If so you will have fast attking classes simply stun lock ppl to where they cant do any ability.

The government comment dose not fit any thing your saying the idea what your seem to be getting at is that your in a smaller group of views so your views are not taking as much as the larger group. This is not a new things for the USA government it is from the very start of things its a winner takes all system. Its not the best system but truly there is no “best” system. You cant have a small group stopping every thing that most of the ppl want.

As for GW2 the game is how the makers want to make it YOU have nothing to do with there chose. So its not the best thing to talk about governments when it comes to a privately owned businesses. You as a player have as much rights as they wish to give you and they can chose to changes these as they see fit.

The combat is very free I agree in the sense that you use it. I do love being able to freely use skills without targets and placing aoe’s where I please. I’m having a hard time trying to com across with what I mean, but I guess it’s like the fact that there isn’t much precision in the combat and so the depth of how you use skills is still similar to how you would in another mmo where you just cycle through skills. To me, and this is only an opinion, without having to worry much about precision it sort of makes the combat system more dull than it could have been. I know it’s an mmo and it’s a big improvement to most combat systems, but they took away to much customization for how much they give back in traits and in combat. It’s basically strafing and dodging whenever you feel like, because it’s hard to prejudge skills.

The gov. comment on my part was sorta stupid. By that I meant that they took to much control over player options so they don’t have to worry about balancing as much. I can see where they come from, but they are a game company. Other companies seem to not care about dealing with balance issues in order to provide more options.

Anet is free to do what they want, and as a member and participant of this game I am free to express my opinion on there choices, especially since they constantly state how much they care about what they gamers want. The forums are mostly flooded with complainers, because when players are unsatisfied they would like the company to know why, and maybe after seeing similar complaints and suggestions over and over again I believe they may decide to make changes for the better. Now, this is assuming others agree with my opinion, but when they don’t that’s ok to.

Thanks for the feedback by the way. I suppose I should lighten up and not be so demanding. The game is in it’s early years still and still has a lot of life and improvements yet to come.

tl;dr is near the bottom, it’s a long post.

It’s fun because they said I’m having fun…. Really, theirs not much I enjoy. I might be sour about it because I’m what you would call a gw1 fanboy, but that’s because it was awesome and the perfect game for me, but now its dead so I must move on. I hate to kitten and moan, but I know Anet has the ability to make a game I can enjoy but so far they aren’t.

There aren’t goals I feel like achieving. They are either too shallow, or too time consuming to the point where it’s discouraging. It seems like an underachiever mindset who sets his goals too high to where he can’t be dissapointed(legendary weapons) if he can’t complete them, or so low that it’s guarenteed (really anything, there aren’t many other goals) a success. No real fun.

the story isn’t immersive and it’s just annoying bickering between the races. It’s a very childish storyline and I never really feel like I’m a part of it. I honestly couldn’t tell you plot twists or any major events of it besides fighting “the common enemy” because the cut scenes suck. I don’t mind the voice actors or anything, that parts fine.

Nothing is cool looking and makes me want it. I like rare items you have to farm for, because it’s something that not everyone is accessible to. It’s random and flashy that makes you feel special. It’s addictive in the way gambling is, and who doesn’t like free gambling in a video game that makes you feel better than others? Randomness also makes it so anybody, no matter how much you play, has a chance to get something. Obviously the more you play, the more opportunities to be lucky.

PvP. Since when, in any game, has a conquest/capture play mode been the most popular? I don’t think I need to say more.

WvW, cool idea, zerg fest. Fun for awhile, but I don’t feel like it has staying power. Although, I have yet to do it with a level 80 (My current highest is lvl 60-something, I got bored and stopped playing). Do something to make it more strategic, If anyone has ideas bring them to the table.

Traits aren’t customizable enough to cover the lack of customization for weapon skills. I don’t feel like I’m building a character at all, or making him my own. It feels like it’s street fighter, but with only as many character options as there are weapon options. And the combat isn’t deep enough so the skill ceiling is rather low in terms of just combat and using skills. Positioning is really the only other factor.

In an mmo, I want to make my own superhero basically. I want to build a character with a style I enjoy and I can be proud of what I built that character to be, whether it’s his looks and skills or the achievements I accomplished with him. In gw1 my mains where my ele and rit. My ele I decked out in ascended hydromancer armor and usually ran variations of water builds, because I wanted to be an ice mage which was rather unique in that game because fire and earth were more sought after for pve. But, I enjoyed the challenge of using my character like an underdog. Eventually I got obsidian armor which is one of my biggest accomplishments of any game. In gw2, my ele is akin to that of the avatar, except every other ele is also an avatar. Why can’t I have a specialty?

I hate playing a jack of all trades class. Well unfortunately they made everything like that except the thief, which is only useful for conditions and dps.

Everything is way to ingrained to make any changes. The many currencies people have would make hours of grind useless if they changed that system. The combat is the combat, and really, you can’t do anything but polish it I suppose.

tl;dr this game feels like an action adventure game without good combat and fluidity. The combat is nice, but it shouldn’t be the focus because you never actually feel like your physically hitting anything, you just go around wiffing until numbers pop up.

I think Anet will become overwhelmed with this game faster than they did with GW1. They are behaving like the US government and trying to tell me what I want and what I need, but really they are just constricting the amount of fun I could be having.

I know there are threads like this out there, but I feel like I had a lot to say and sort of get off my chest. I would like to know how other people feel about these sort of issues and if there’s a way to change my mind. I’ll keep my hope until they announce GW3, but it’s a challenge.

Profession, classes, and skills/builds not based around gimmicks. They said they reduced the skills because there would end up being only a few powerful builds. Well, with even less options there are even less effective builds.

Oh, and all classes filling the same role creates even less diversity because then only the best class gets used for everything. At least with the holy trinity and stuff you are able to feel needed and felt like you impact things.

I feel like taking away specific roles is something that people don’t like. As human civilization evolved we became a people of specialization. It makes us feel important, is the most effective way to get things done, and we feel we have a purpose. Without the skill customization, I am unable to build a skill bar for a particular task in the best way possible. I then have useless skills on my bar that have nothing to do with my goal but I end up spamming them anyway because all my useful skills are on cd and I’m useless till they can be used again.

They said I get to play how I want. Well, I want to make my own skill bars and test new strategies. Right now it feels like I’m playing the way they want me to.

Skill bars tied to weapons is somewhat cool and I don’t mind it, but It keeps me from using certain weapons I want and skins to use because I have to use whatever weapon is accompanied by the best skills.

I feel insulted as a gamer by not being challenged and having training wheels on all the time. This doesn’t just relate to this game, but nowadays “nerdy” games are being played by the general public. Although this shows some success, It means people who hate being challenged ruin it for the rest of us by whining and making everything easy mode.

Whats the point in trying to execute a strategy and wanting to formulate a new successful build when I could easily garner the same results by smacking my head against the keyboard because no matter what I press it will result in success.

The fun of a video game is when you are met with a challenge and you have to figure a way to beat it. Whats the point of a puzzle if someones telling you where the pieces go?

p.s. You best get them ritualists in this game pronto. Cantha and the ritualist is what made me fall in love with gw1 and give you (ANET) money.

GW2 is lazy, no one has a specific role. It’s like ymca soccer when you were 8 years old, everyone just bunches up and attacks things. Everything seems dumbed down and homogenized. When I enter a pvp match with my ele, every encounter is the same. I use scepter/dagger because it seems the most efficient to me with two blinds and two knockdowns with some damage. But it’s the same every game! I use ride the lightening, knockdown, blind, and basically am just facerolling all my skills in one attunement and switch to the other. The combat seems to be a lot better for 1v1 pvp, but they dont have that. But there is little teamwork in this game, mainly because nobody needs anybody. Everyone is made self sufficient and nobody can maximize their ability to fulfill a certain role, instead, they have gimmicky builds that use high cd utility skills, but still using the same old weapon skills making u locked to play around that build. Which is stupid, because all the weapon skills are designed to damage. So everyone is a damage dealer with slight hints of support or whatever. In gw1, I just always tried to find new strategies. Even though they ended as failures most of the time I had way more fun experimenting with stuff and when I found something that worked it was awesome. I am not a unique character in this game, I am playing with the same skills as everyone else with the same strategy and gear and everything.

The argument about having less skills but more balanced and larger variety of usable builds is bullkitten. It’s impossible to have 100% balance so there will always be a top build. So basically they just took away options and feels like a way for them to not have to deal with balancing issues to much, seems a bit lazy to me to make it so they have complete control over what builds there are. It’s like if you are babysitting a child but don’t let him do anything because you don’t feel like watching him and him hurting himself or whatever.

Another thing is the fact that the only pvp available is a point capping one. Which is awesome if you have a coordinated team, but when its just a bunch of random people/bots playing there is no communication and the only reliable way to increase your chances of winning is to zerg, in which personal skill dissapears and dps spam become more effective. Fortunately everyone has brought dps, because wait a sec… you really have no choice. “maybe I’ll run a support build, I have these three utility skills with 45sec cd that would be great! Il make it so my traits help those skills out so I can support better! But wait… I can’t make my first skills support oriented skills, so now the majority of my skills are for dps but my traits and utility skills are for supporting others. Screw this I’ll just go dps because it’s more efficient and powerful than support or tank builds.” basically my thought pattern that happens whenever I try and experiment with builds in pvp.

I’ve realized I had stopped playing this game for the past 2 weeks or so and didn’t even think about it. The horizontal progression was great in gw1, I always had max level gear and always craved to obtain new weapons and skins that were rare. Even farming in gw1 was alright, it wasn’t mandatory and a lot of the rare stuff dropped from mobs. The art style and the whole atmosphere/feeling of the game seemed better. The shiverpeaks were my favorite area and with the dark, cold, and snowiness along with the incredible music was just awesome and made the game more immersive. Everything seems so cluttered and unorganized in this game. I have like no desire to even get any of the exotic skins, not sure why that is I have no real reason but they don’t seem epic or anything. Everything seems generic and since armors are based on armor class you aren’t really able to feel a style within your own profession. Now the skill system has also started to wear me down…. It’s boring now. Really boring. Sure it’s more action oriented, sorta fps-ish and 3rd person action game-y but I’ve gotten bored of the same couple skillsets I’ve had since the first ten minutes I started. I love that they tried to do a more action packed playstyle, but with an mmo it just turns into a dodge fest. Action game playstyles don’t really seem to work too well with rpg combat. I still like the gameplay, but Idk it’s not like I prefer it over gw1. Gw1 action was more precise and crisp. Now back to the limit of skills. Sure you can argue that in gw1 a lot of skills were useless and there were meta builds, but then again the combat was more pre planning and strategic. In gw2 I don’t feel like my character has changed from level 15-61, where 61 is my highest level atm(mainly cus i don’t have the urge to play or obtain higher levels). I’m using the same skills, starting to obtain some more unique skins for stuff but it all looks generic still, and I totally miss capping elites. Capping and elite was awesome fun in the first game, and sometimes challenging. To summarize my thoughts on the skills, I miss the customization and uniqueness and the discovery of new builds. The lore in the first game was wayyyy better, it was darker and had intelligent bad dudes who actually had a personality. I actually wanted to kill the eff out of shiro for being such a kitten. But in this game we’re fighting dragons. Now I love dragons, but I just don’t get it. Dragons come to tear stuff up, so the human gods decide that they are wussies and run, but I don’t really feel a real threat. The story missions for me has mostly been that I get targeted by a mod and run in circles throwing aoe behind me untill they die.

But all the biased hate aside, I believe the real reason this game is going downhill is because they give you everything you need to easily, then make all the rare things way to hard to obtain. They are balancing the game around bots in order to make the market stable, but its keeping any normal human being from obtaining anything desirable and goals that are just not worth reaching. Cosmetic achievements are rad, but are only worth it to a certain point.

Slow performance last couple of weeks.

ScottBroChill.3254

The last few weeks gw2 has been running ridiculously slow and I’m trying to find out why. My system is an Alienware 14x laptop and I haven’t really tested any other games besides league of legends, which isn’t really comparable at all, but it had no issues. Before this happened I could have the graphics all the way up with near perfect performance with the only issue being overheating. Once that happened I went out and bought one of those laptop fans that prop up you’re computer and have ventilation and stuff and that basically made my computer not even get remotely warm. Well, eventually it started having heat problems again without the fan and since then everything has gone down hill with performance. I’ve had to turn my setting all the way down when any sort of action is occuring or when I’m in a big city and even then I’m getting a lot of lag. After about 1 hour of gaming my laptop is already really warm and I usually log off then to prevent any internal damage.

I downloaded the up to date nvidia driver multiple times, and messed with certain things to try and fix the problem but nothing helps. I’ve also heard gw2 performance has been sub-par recently, but this seems more of a computer issue to me than a connection issue. I’m in total need of some help because I love gw2!

I’m liking the game so far, but I have one complaint for the most part. Their whole focus was letting us play the way we want to play, so instead they give us fixed skill bars with fixed strategies for those skill bars. The professions have watered down roles, which essentially makes team aspects of the games like 5 year olds ymca soccer, aka a zergfest. They say roles are no fun which is their opinion, but is ok since it is their game. I like that my main character can choose to switch roles, but none of them feel particularly effective at them. Roles are the most efficient ways to complete tasks, just look at work environments, bee colonies and ant colonies. I feel like those insects have this kitten more figured out then Anet.

People are going to divide into roles because it is most effective. Since they don’t give us the resources to make those roles effective enough, they aren’t fun. It’s sorta a shame.

I did feel like engineer fit the role of rit the most, in a way. But I also felt it was so mechanical that it just doesn’t feel the same… and the lack of usable weapons is also disheartening because I’ve got a little bit of a sweet tooth for loot. I actually have played a little bit of mesmer, mostly in pvp and I’ve had a blast. I leveled a sylvari mesmer to level 10 or higher and enjoyed it as well, but for some reason I wasn’t satisfied with the look so I deleted it and haven’t returned. But I do enjoy all the illusions, the theme is perfect my only concern is the usefulness in pve but even that I don’t care about because I’m in a helpful guild.

The necromancer is the profession I’m least familiar with. I like the whole theme, but then again it’s really gritty and is like about disease and stuff. I actually like the them and all, but I still prefer the spiritual feel of the rit more. I’m not sure if I’ll get this feel more with the mesmer or the necromancer.

Hey, so in guild wars 1 ritualist was my favorite profession and most of all I loved the asthetics and theme of the class. I’m totally disappointed it was removed in gw2, but it’s all good I’ll find something hopefully. I came to the forums hoping to find other gw1 rit mains and was wondering what profession you found in this game to suit you the most. I was thinking that engineer, mesmer, and necromancer would be the most related to it but I still can’t just stick with one without the fear that I’ll invest too much time and waste my characters name on a profession I won’t enjoy. If anyone could give me some guidance on what is working for them and the reasons why it would be totally rad.

If “All classes should be able to damage as well as everyone if they spec right” was true, whats the point of having different classes. Sure playstyles are different, but to be EXACTLY as powerful you would need to have EXACTLY the same playstyle. Some styles are better at dealing the damage and making it hit, even though numbers can be similar. This has nothing to do with engineers being op or up, it has to do with logic. I’m not saying anyone is stupid or anything, but perfect balance is only possible if there is one class. That is why certain classes have specific strengths and weaknesses, so there is a reason to play one over the other. But again, I’m not saying the engineer isn’t underpowered, but to me he is alright and has great versatility.

uhh dude, if you were to out damage a warrior, the warrior would whine like a child too. I hate when people complain about not being able to out dps damage oriented classes like the warrior, thief, and ranger. Of course you aren’t going to out damage them, unless they just aren’t attacking so stop trying to. The engineer has versatility, control, and great party support. When using an engineer in pvp I found what works best is to prioritize some really strong survivability traits and add some offensive traits in to even out your build.

When using a rifle you want to utilize net and knockback as much as possible because it will let you deal damage without receiving much. I also like tool kit for its magnet and block. When you’re team fighting you want to try and avoid being the center of attention. you should focus on keeping targets from closing in on your allies.

All it takes to have a strong build is to look at the strengths of whatever weapon or kit you’re using and build off of it. This doesn’t mean focusing on all the offensive traits for those specific weapons/kits, because that usually isn’t the strength of the engi.
