“Now I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds.”
Like many of you, I’ve been playing GW2 since shortly after beta and while I’m not as active as I once was, I still really enjoy the game and believe it to be the best overall MMO I’ve ever played. When considering some of the games on the market and those coming out this year, visually, GW2 is starting to feel it’s age a bit. Of course, this is just my opinion, but I think that areas such as the character creation, some animations and overall graphics would be a nice improvement.
When looking at the new possibilities available due to current gen PCs, do you all think that Anet will ever produce a remastered version of GW2 that contains more detailed character creator and improved graphics? If so, I wonder if it would be something added to an Xpack or just a quality of life update.
What are your thoughts about the possibility of a remastered version of GW2?
Thief is OP!!! I demand Anet to nerf the class.
I’ve actually left GW2 a few times for some of the games mentioned already but I do still enjoy many of things GW2 offers. For one, it is very friendly towards the casual player and rewards skill (build creativity) over gear.
Still, and while I still like the game, I think it’s starting to show it’s age a bit when you look at the character creation, graphics, etc in comparison to games like BDO or even Bless.
Either way, GW2 remains one of the best MMOs I’ve ever played. I just wonder what GW3 may be like.
My wish list:
1. More story
2. More armor/weapon sets so my character can look amazing
3. More hairstyles
4. No level increase
Thanks for the help everyone! This really gives me a good idea as to where to go with leveling my new character.
So I’m seriously considering making a new Warrior as I just don’t like the story/animations of my current Norn. With the changes to WvW, is it still a good idea to level there or just stick with the story quests?
Thanks!
Wow… that was great!
So I found this on YouTube yesterday and was just amazed at how powerful this rendition of the GW2 theme is! Seriously, take a look at this.
It still works but under-performs thanks to the HoT meta. Basically the thief has a handful of builds that can tear it apart and P/D doesn’t specifically address those builds. Sure a player can out-skill another player that has an advantage but as soon as you run into a strong player in an advantage build they will beat the snot out of you or you will be forced to retreat.
At least that is my experience with it. In skilled hands against average opponents, works great. In duels with solid players or against strong meta HoT builds, not so much. Still viable just not optimal.
Thanks for the answer! This is kind of what I was figuring would be the case but wasn’t sure. When looking at this build against the typical condi Warrior, I can see how it would struggle greatly. Anyone with a brain can reflect much of that damage. It may be slightly more effective in PvP though.
Way, WAY back in the day I used to play around with a P/D Thief using mostly celestial gear with some added condi/crit and torment sigil on the pistol. It was a ton of fun as the build had decent enough base power damage to pressure a target while constantly applying bleed, torment, confusion, etc. I used this build concept in WvW and PvP alike and found it to be really fun for the time being. However, I’ve heard that it was completely killed awhile back. Does this build still work or is it actually dead?
Build Examples are below:
Example 1: Celestial Hybrid
Example 2 (Trapper): Trapper – Full Condi
Just a thought…
I don’t play a thief but this happened to me on my Ranger this morning. The thing is, he had to burn every CD to make this trick work and then, he’s got nothing left. So, he was able to down me but he didn’t notice the other Ranger coming behind him who simply just did a basic Pew-Pew to kill him.
It’s a great one-trick wonder of a build but other than ganking the random roamer, it doesn’t have much value.
As an update…
I spent a good bit of time playing around with a few variations of the D/D ele last night in PvP and at the end, I felt like I just had to play a perfect match if I really wanted to do enough damage/healing to make much of a difference. As much as I “wanted” to make it work, it just wasn’t as good as what others could do to support the group.
I went back to testing my Ranger a bit more and as luck would have it, I got completely destroyed by a thief and another bunker druid. Frustrating…
I then changed over to my new warrior (bunker/condi) and with all the +healing I have, it felt like I couldn’t die even though I don’t have the zerker spec yet. I dueled another GS/Mace/Shield warrior and it became clear that neither of us would win the fight. On this character, it just feels like there isn’t much to worry about when it comes to solo or small groups. For large groups, I played around a bit with the rifle and that was crazy fun to see those massive crits. I’m sure it’s crazy with the zerker spec.
Anyways, I’m wondering now what you all think about the warrior filling the “jack of all trades” role. With looking through the weapons and utility skills, it really looks like she can be easily modified to fit any role w/o much trouble. As I like the condi so much, I guess I’ll have to have a condi and a marauder set of gear though.
Any other thoughts?
Thanks for the info everyone! I kind of figured as much but wanted to check. I just HATE crafting ascended armor…
Oh, and I asked a GM about changing the stats on a pair of PvP ascended boots I got and via a trouble ticket, asked me to delete the ones I had and they would send me a new version. Pretty amazing service there! Apparently, there is a bug in the PvP armor that makes it so you can’t change the stats.
Nice! In over 2 years of playing ive NEVER EVER not even once received a reply from support after putting in a ticket via in game support.
Yeah… I’ve never used the in-game support. I just went to the website under my account and then submitted a ticket that way. I think it took about 2 days, almost 3 and everything was fixed. The new boots even come with that fresh “right from the devs hands” smell to them.

So I have several ascended armor items on my Ranger that I got from PvP but now I’m considering playing a new class as my main. From what I understand, I can’t earn more armor from PvP so it’s back to the traditional crafting them. Is this correct or can you change the armor type (medium to light) like you can change the stats?
Thanks!
Well, another thought then after reading the Ele forums: What about giving a D/D Ele a chance again? I mentioned in their forums that I played the class for a bit when the game was first released and LOVED it. It was so exciting to play and just never felt boring. After trying it again in PvP, it felt extremely difficult to really pressure folks. That, and Rangers like mine would eat my little Ele alive in their opening burst.
If I remember right, their fire #3 ability grants immunity while being used so long time ago, I’d use my other travel skills to get close to the zerg, then fire 3 into the middle, pop a few skills, then leap away. It was so funny to watch how that would trip so many people up.
I toyed around with a D/D Ele shortly after GW2 was released and then pretty much quit once they nerfed the travel aspect of the class. At the time, the class was simply a blast to play.
I’m wondering though, with roaming in WvW, how do you deal with LB Rangers who can pretty much take down an Ele with their first opening burst? I’d like to try the class again but after testing in PvP, it just felt like I was 2-3 times more work for the dame damage that others could do with 2-3 buttons.
Perhaps I just suck as an ele…
Howdy everyone!
So like I mentioned in the general forums, I’ve been playing the game now for about 3 weeks and have a brand new Warrior up to level 80. She doesn’t yet have her elite spec as I’ve not done much in HoT (hate that place).
Anyways, I really enjoy my condi sword/shield + LB build in PvP and solo roaming in WvW as with over 3.6k armor, 26K health, and 1700 condi damage, she just feels like a freaking tank of death and destruction! Even in large blob WvW, I’ve found her to be relatively entertaining as it’s so easy to drop the AoE conditions folks apply, leap out of the damage, then run right back in for more.
My concern though is for PvE as to my understanding, a high condi build isn’t much use in much of anything and completely blows for soloing through the world. Of the warrior builds, I really can’t stand using the other weapon sets or playing as a zerker.
I’ve been playing mostly as a Ranger and up until I started running WvW with a large group, I really loved the class. Little did I know how almost useless they are in a zerg. This is mainly why I’ve been reconsidering the Ranger and thought more about my new Warrior.
Anyways, thanks for the advice!

Hello Jalassa,
I’d like to answer that your feeling may result from gaps between “what you like” and “what actually works”. Those gaps may vary accordingly with the game mode you’re playing.
That is an EXCELLENT point and something I never considered. Things that make you go, “hmm…”
The other night was actually the first time I ran with a large group as I’ve almost always been going solo or with a small team. In both of those areas, the Ranger did rather well and even found it funny to crush the delicate ego of some of those friendly roaming Thieves out there.
With adding a Sigil of Fire to the LB, I figured it would help put more pressure on a group considering the crazy range the weapon has. Still, it didn’t appear to matter all that much. /sadface
I’ve had several folks suggest a Guardian really fits well in every aspect of the game but after reading over their weapon skills, they don’t appear to have much in the way of sustained mobility. It’s hard to ignore my Ranger’s +33% movement speed.
Hello everyone!
I’ve been playing the game now for about a month and I have three classes at level 80 now, a Ranger, Necro and a Warrior. Only the Ranger has the elite spec available though as it just takes more time than I have to grind those points.
Anywho… my question revolves around a “jack of all trades” concept in playing the game. I was about 75% convinced that my Ranger was going be my main character until I joined my server’s massive WvW team the other night. With TC, BG and MG all fighting their blobs against each other, I quickly noticed how little impact my Ranger really has on any outcome of the battle. Sure, I can heal folks well enough but I didn’t create the character to be a healer… With that, I changed over to my condi Warrior and found bag collection to be sort-of crazy. With all the AoE damage, I figured the Necro will probably be the same.
For PvE, I found that any of the three are pretty easy with the Ranger or Necro being so simple at times that I could probably play the game while checking my eyelids for holes…
As for PvP, I like them all to some extent but have really been working hard on my pew-pew Ranger which I’ve found to be really fun once you learn to balance the LB with GS.
My concern though is that the class I initially picked just has no real place in one aspect of the game that I really, REALLY enjoy! It also frustrates me as my Ranger is almost fully decked out in ascended gear now too and has her primary crafting skills maxed to 500 as well.
Is there something I can do to make the Ranger more effective in WvW?
Sorry, but I have always struggled with the thought of picking the wrong class.
Thanks!

I just ran into this problem today as well. I can’t change the stats of my PvP boots.
Sweet… Thanks!
Hello everyone!
I’m trying to change the stats on the ascended boots below but when I go to the forge, it doesn’t even show them as a possibility. Do you all know why?
Thanks!
This also sucks when playing an alt character. Can’t use PvP to get gear for them either…
Why not?
Can’t change them from light to medium, etc. Right?
This also sucks when playing an alt character. Can’t use PvP to get gear for them either…
SOTW can help you reg AF which is hard without a staff, also you invest in piercing shots for SB so stability and 8 sec of unblockable can be nice for some pressure. With DC and CS you’ll have much better time vs thieves and rangers, you struggle now because you dont have stun breaks nor stability, and your heal is your only on demand condi clear. Maybe i’m wrong , have little experience with traps builds but i think it will be better.
thank you i have a stupid question i do not use avatar much but when i tried i always die. is their anyway to stop it a few sec after activating it?
Honestly, I only use mine for the instant AoE interrupt/heal and then heal myself. After that, I hit my hotkey and go right back to normal combat.
lol, I’ll have to give this a try. I used something similar back in the day and it was really fun as nobody expected it.
Thanks folks for all the advice. You all pretty much told me what I’ve been trying to tell myself. I spent a great deal of time on that outfit and her hair to match a RP concept I was working on. Guess I’ll keep her…
Hey everyone!
So after hitting 80 on my Human Ranger, I finally looked around and noticed that just about 99% of every other ranger out there was also a Human. I could be wrong but that’s just my limited perspective.
Anyways… I’m considering changing over (starting over… again) with a Norn as I really like the RP concept behind the race + the class I’ve chosen. Still, I want to find out what you all think between these two.
Which do you like better?
So here is my new Norn Ranger. I think I like her better than my Human. W
Folks,
I’m still fairly new and while I hit 80 a few days ago, I’m really struggling earning enough hero points to unlock my elite specialization. I’m at the point in HoT where I again, have to farm exp just to continue to the story so I can’t even access areas where additional points are available. I’ve heard that farming EotM in WvW is a good option as well. Is this correct? Is there any way to get my elite spec faster than what I’m doing right now?
Thanks!
I love this outfit!
What outfit are you using? That looks amazing!
Fun video! Thanks for posting. Sadly though, I could never give up my LB but it’s nice to see people trying something new for our beloved Rangers.
So you’re build is pretty darn impressive. This is from my first game trying it.
@ OP:
Is there something wrong with your YouTube channel? The links you provided aren’t working.
Hello,
Congrats on reaching level 80. To answer your question, the cheapest way I have found to obtain Ascended armor over the past few weeks (just started my goal of upgrading from exotics over the last 3 weeks) are the following:
Note: wait to use slots on rings until fully infused/attuned which I would do last to see if one you want possibly drops as infusing costs the most but still isn’t too expensive.
Obtain armor from PvP Season 5 using shards. While this may bring you out of your comfort zone, it is worth it and gets you to experience another side of Guild wars 2 (must be pvp level 20 to compete in season).
For Amulets/rings, I would suggest obtaining these using 10 Pristine fractal relics which can be obtained by completing daily fractal zones (1 prestine relic per daily)https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Ascended_trinket#Amulets.
Trinkets/Accessories: join a guild that runs events and use commendations is the cheapest, or wait a month and you will have enough laurel to purchase.
Wait to upgrade weapons last as they will probably be the most expensive.
best of luck to you, hope this helps.
This is a ton of great information! Thanks for the reply.
Hello everyone!
So I just hit level 80 last night and have been working on PvP and crafting to get the next phase of Ascended gear. The problem I have been running into is that I’m not really certain as to the best way to get all those accessories that we need as well. It would take ages to buy them with laurels…
Last time I played GW2 (long time ago) it was pretty common to find ascended accessories in chests from PvP, WvW, etc. I remember having tons of them on various alts just on the off chance I might need one. Since coming back, it feel like that isn’t as common anymore.
Any suggestions on the the best way to find the ones I need?
Thanks!
For me, it’s simply people who fail to rez a downed player. So many games could have been won if a team member would simply rez another instead of trying to 1v3 on a node.
i’d have bought every single outfit released if they were armours.
Kind of the same for me. I hate the outfit idea! Now, if they were armor skins, that would be a completely different story.
As a newly converted Ranger, I approve this video… lol
Actually, thanks for posting it! I always learn a great deal by watching others play.
Ya’ll have some good advice. I basically took my top 3-4 classes/builds and played them over and over and over in PvP to get an idea of what fit the best. While I ended up really having fun with the D/D Ele I just found it difficult to use the class/build in multiple situations. It was a rush in PvP but after trying to figure out how to adapt to questing and/or boss farming, it get’s much more difficult.
So… I ended up going with the Druid. It took a few games before I was comfortable with the more aggressive plays style but being able to dish out damage, put down decent melee power, then heal is pretty darn impressive.
So I’ve been testing around with this build using a few changes that I like a bit better and while the learning curve has been slow, I think I finally got the hang of things last night. You know when you just “feel” comfortable? That’s how this game went…
I’m playing Jalassa…
@Noble.2670
Thanks for the detailed guide and the link. I’m going to try this out later tonight. I sadly still remember all my D/D tricks and hotkeys I set up. It was always fun even in PvE with the bow and the FGS.
Again, thanks for the help!
This was the class/build that really got me sold on GW2 long ago. I just wish it didn’t feel like I was doing 10x the work that anyone else had to do. That, and roaming in WvW just broke my soul when running into a glass-cannon LB ranger.
I played a D/D ele back after beta and it made me fall in love with the game. After all the changes, I gave up and quit. Are they a legit class/build again?
Oh, and if I wanted to roll one, what armor would you suggest until I can afford the celestial ascended or just celestial in general?
(edited by SeranusGaming.7362)
So I’ll be honest up front and say that I have never really considered a DH simply because there are so many of them in PvP that I didn’t want to feel like I’m part of the FotM crowd. Still, they look pretty fun.
I was wondering, how well do they do in ranged attacks when compared to that of a LB ranger? I’ve been told they have great damage anti-condi skills but that they are easy to kite and have terrible mobility. Is this correct?
Hello again folks!
I’m on day 4 now of owning GW2 and love the game so far! I’ve tested about every class and build combo I can find and keep having problems on settling with my “main” character. I don’t like playing alts so for me, it’s all in once I make the choice. The problem has been making that choice…. Can you please suggest a class/build combo that works for what I’m trying to do?
Oh, and I don’t care for the Engis, Revs, or Ele (d/d was fun though…/cry). I’m really leaning towards a LB DPS Druid, perhaps a Necro, a P/D thief, or something else that I’m totally missing.
My Play Style:
1. I spend at least 50-75% of my time in PvP and WvW. I really have little interests in fractals or raiding.
2. I solo almost all the time.
3. Must have mobility or some way to escape when I screw up.
4. I LOVE duels.
5. I want to play just 1 class. If I have to change the build/gear for WvW, PvP, or when on my own in the world, that’s fine. As an example, I was playing P/D Thief in PvP but changed to a burst P/P for PvE.
Anyways, please give me your thoughts as I’m pretty confused right now what to play.
Thanks!!!
Try this, it’s what I run when I want to power necro. A great 1v1 build when defending a point, the well is great for area denial. A pretty selfish bruiser build, you contribute to teamfights mostly by focusing/+1’ing targets.
I actually ran this build a few times yesterday and it’s really fun. I found it to be very effective in most cases.
The difference between a good review and a bad review is that a good one would provide you with reasons for both the pros and the cons of whatever it is being reviewed.
And that’s the problem I have most of the time. There is a very specific play style I’m trying to find as I just know that no matter how amazing a certain class/build might be, if it’s not fun in my perspective, I won’t play it. Honestly, if I play a game and after an hour I’m not laughing or at least, walking away with a huge smile, then what’s the point? This is the reason why I left several other MMOs as they just weren’t fun to play and felt more like a second job. GW2 has such versatility in their classes that there isn’t just one option out there for people to pick from – there’s usually several. I’ve actually tested out every class so far and find things in each that I enjoy. Kinda strange for an MMO…
Anyways, I’m an adrenaline junkie that loves a class/build that is quick and has a lot going on, or at least, has many options available. Mobility is a key as if I get into a mess, I want the ability to disengage and run away screaming like a child. This was probably why I liked the D/D Ele so much when I first played around with it.
Also, I can’t stand a class where I push two buttons, go make a sandwich, take a nap, then come back to find everything devastated. This is partially why I didn’t continue with the warrior as it just felt too simple and predictable.
Lastly, being able to have a long duel where you wear down your opponent is something that’s been growing on me more. The Ranger’s ability to 100%-0% in 3 seconds is fun but all that power comes at the cost of if you screw up, and the enemy player is smart, you’re probably going to die. A Necro “appears” to be a bit more forgiving in that area but again, I’m still a huge noob so what do I know.
The only other consideration I was playing around with was a P/D condi/survival thief. I’ve toyed around with this before in WvW and PvP and while it was really fun in WvW, it was much harder to adapt to PvP. It was unique and something that I didn’t see anyone else playing.
Well, based upon the build that Saerni posted, I went back and reworked things a bit more to my budget level for a new 80 thief as well as my play style. Essentially, I dropped out the power for condi and stuck with traveler’s runes as I just can’t play the class w/o the speed boost. The +10% condi duration is nice to have as well.
Anyways, here is what I have so far: Low Budget Condi Thief
