Ok fine, call em signets, call em gadgets. Regardless, I like these ideas because they are elite that actually work into a build, rather than along side. This is how elites should be imo.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
I think you’d eventually forget what the original skin was. If you transmute more than once, transferring the skin one time, then the stats the next, then…o crap what was it again? It says super shield, but it used to be verdant I think, and before that…lionguard? And would it revert to the verdant or the lionguard? Which was technically “the 1st”?
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
I’ve been thinking along these lines too since launch. My favorite thing about GW was the plethora of skills that let me constantly make new, fun, unique builds and freely change them out. I’ll admit, I was a bit disappointed initially with GW2 and the comparatively smaller pool of skills from which to build. Also, no build saving/swapping. However, I’ve come to understand and appreciate the complexity that traits & runes & sigils can bring.
Having said that, I’ve often wished that we could assume an abbreviated version of the infamous dual-classing. Namely, being able to unlock a small number of utilities from other professions. It’d be neat to do this via having to group with that other profession to do a quest together as a sort of bonding-and-understanding.
Unfortunately, it would be hellacious balancing this and, of course, the skills chosen from each profession would be analyzed and criticized to no end. You couldn’t choose anything too class-defining like mesmer portal or clones, thief steal or stealth, warrior banners, engineer kits. But something like a mesmer mantra or engineer gadget or a thief preparation would be fun. We wouldn’t have traits to enhance them, so they’d have to be something that doesn’t rely on the strength so much as the mechanics. No stunbreakers, no heals.

Yeah the bikini was so hawt, my external was filled with thousands of screenshots.

[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Part of me feels with a lot of the Open World raids the mechanics are hidden by the number of people doing them. Take for example Jormag, 2nd part you have to break crystals to let golems through to blow up the walls, while also dealing with Vets. Really cool interesting mechanics. I’ve done Jormag with 10 people and it is an amazingly fun fight.
However what most people experience of the Dragons is standing on a hill auto-attacking (with bad lag), as only a couple of people kite the vets and destroy the crystals. In otherwords the HP of the Dragon Scale, the mechanics don’t well.
I personally would love the option as a Guild to open an instanced version of Jormag, and run it with 20-30 guild mates rather than open world and get the whole experience with mates.
This is what I would love to see as a “Raid”. And I do think there is a place for it in the game.
You’ve made a solid argument. Despite my earlier comment, I can’t disagree. I’ve only ever done Jormag amidst a huge pack and have found the mechanics to go right out the window. What you’re lobbying for isn’t a “dungeon with a larger party size” so much as “world bosses with smaller party size so the mechanics remain intact.” I’m for it.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
It’s cool doing this. My mesmer has creepy necro eyes. My ranger has engi goggles. I’ve seen rangers with engi starter backpacks too, which looks weird but hey, to each their own. I love the creepy necro eyes so being able to put that on all my clothies is fun.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Also, you can swap to MedKit and back to FT mid FT autoattack without interupting the attack. So you can still deal damage while kit dancing.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
…. I still have more fun with FT and EG then nades and I play this game to enjoy myself. I let being competitive die with my previous MMO and now just play to more or less relax.
Just play how you want and if nades makes you feel better then go for it. If you don’t like kits then don’t use them, if FT is what you enjoyed so far and the others aren’t cutting it then don’t let this silly topic stop you from enjoying yourself.
^this. I have more fun running FT/EG than grenades. If they changed the ’nade auto to targeted that might change. But I like being able to swap to EG for group support.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
I got Crabtacular. It’s possible. More possible early in the event before people caught on to the crab toss mechanics. I may have even lagged into that achievement. I know it was all luck.

Just follow the email>SSC>NPC…she directs you to another NPC & marks it on your map. Read the dialogue with NPCs, don’t just skim thru it. Read the achievement descriptions for the Living Story and they will clear up anything you couldn’t figure out. If you really need it, but I doubt it, dulfy is an option. Only thing I needed dulfy for were a couple sample locations.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
O light years ahead of F&F. This is a lot of fun and I’m glad it’s in SSC. It’s a beautifully rendered area that didn’t live up to its full potential after the initial event. My hope is that this event begins a new phase for SSC permanently, using the event to terraform/reshape it. The story is good. A little mystery as opposed to straight up war, which is what F&F felt like. I like seeing a lot players there too.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
I’ve been stacking mad amounts of might without using a single elixir/HGH.
Enhance Performance trait in Explosives: 3 might from heal
Altruism Runes: 3 might from heal
Sigil of Battle: 3 might from weapon swap
Juggernaut: stacks might while in FT
Use MedKit (no CD) and swap in & out of it every 10s or so. Triggers trait, sigil, & rune for 9 might stacks every 10 secs without having to blow elixirs. For FT users, tac on Juggernaut’s stacking and you’re rolling in might. Not to mention Altruism gives your party might too.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
I don’t understand. Are we mad because the content can be done too quickly? Because the alternative is people complaining about it being too hard to complete in such a short amount of time. I’m a casual, how can you expect me to grind blah blah blah. It’s a lose-lose for Anet. Either they make it a rough ride to complete (which doesn’t make sense to me) or they make it accesible to everyone. Clearly, the fact that they upleveled SSC hints at the notion that they want every player to be able to have all the fun this event offers.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
It should be toggle-able. Don’t know why you can’t hide everything if you want to. Monthlies/Dailies too.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Um, you have to complete like 10 DEs for the 2 acheivements.
There’s no new JP, but there is a sample to collect near the top of the one that’s there.
Re: The escort event you mentioned; I too saw that guy lying face down in the water. That’s probably because that event is off to the edge of the map & I think most people were concentrating on the middle more. Everyone near there was too busy doing the 2 samples nearby.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
but real people are generally more effective than AI controlled NPCs.
More than once in GW I went back to a mission that my guildies and I had failed and pretty much sailed through it with my Henchies of Doom. I found the Heroes and Henchies to be much more reliable in certain situations. ;-)
Hence, the generally. We’ve all been in one of those groups.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
I got 25/25 last night and only gathered 10/11 samples. Thankfully, I got lucky and got Crabtacular. Which is good because I could not do the stupid vent rock jump thing for that last sample.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
1st place gets 5 karka shells and 2 greens or better
2-4 i think gets 1-5 shells and 1 green or better
5-8 gets only the grey junk item if i’m not mistaken
I’ve been last place & I’ve been 2nd place (never 1st). I’ve always only gotten 1 karka shell + 1 blue/green item. Only played about 6x so we’ll see what tonight brings.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
I feel lucky. I have the achievement. Didn’t even know it existed til I got it by sheer dumb luck. I dodged, they didn’t. When there are 3 big karkas rolling around, it’s possible to be out of energy to dodge so that’s probably what happened.
Note: I was proud to have this achievement. Having read this thread now I don’t.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Yea I think this is actually one of the best events they’ve done. It’s well explained, there are new skins, achievements, title, mini-game, excuse to roam a less-visited zone…The crab toss has a lag issue, I’ll admit. But it is fun. If you like keg brawl, you’ll like this.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
It has been proven that the skin doesn’t change when you upgrade.
What the heck?!
Whats the point?!
Not visually. But it does upgrade.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
1. I don’t really know what hour did Southsun event started but I know that I logged into game maybe around 3-4 hours after it started, and I heard that my guild mates are at the end of 25/25 achievements to get exotic backpiecie…not only that. Some of them were nearly done with all achievements implemented 4 hours ago ! WTF ARENA NET ? Seriously I can’t understand logic behind that…why making it multimonth event when I can make it in one day ?
If you look at the achievement panel for this event you’ll notice a lot more at the bottom that can’t be done yet. This is round 1. Enjoy your ability to do content that isn’t confusing and acquire some nice back items. When the next step in the story arrives, you’ll be able to do more. It’s not hard content. And you can’t be surprised that a new event sparked huge amounts of people wanting to experience it.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
… I played GW1 for years and never had to group to complete anything…
Clearly you missed out on a lot of fun parts of the game like Tomb of the Primeval Kings, Fisure of Woe, and Underworld. You can only solo so much in those areas. And insead of relying on other people, you chose to rely on henchmen and heroes. Which is fine as a point of convenience, but real people are generally more effective than AI controlled NPCs.
I don’t join guilds. I have no one on my friends list. I don’t beg and grovel others to carry me through content.
Since when is forming a 5-man cooperative group being carried through? If that’s the case, then all you’re admitting is being inefficient and ignorant of the dungeon mechanics. Learn the content and you won’t have to be carried…you can participate.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Fun fact: while I was writing this post, I was informed twice over teamspeak that in my AFK spot I was being attacked, and when I tabbed into the game in the midst of an event (riot of some kind) I was actually pretty healthy and managed to fight to the end of the event… though a bunch of people who had been actively fighting already when I tabbed back in were getting downed. This is a pretty good example of what I see all over the place really: it’s painful and annoying to me, fatal for others.
That’s probably because that event dishes out confusion and the enemies have retaliation. Don’t pay attention to this and you’ll down yourself. Upscaled players not used to all the conditions can easily down themselves, especially with burst skills. I had to be very careful as a FT engi.
It’s great that lower levels and newer players can take part in this with the boost, however tyring to solo anything even a normal ranked mob is leads to death more often then not
You’re being upleveled for the event. So why are you trying to solo mobs rather than running with a group for DEs and doing the event stuff? I understand wanting to explore and being forced into combat at times. But combat is only a part of this event. Most of it is just running.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
(edited by Seras.5702)
It’s a bit confusing indeed but I think they made it this way so that people who go to the event for the first time are brought directely to the starting place.
^this. In past events the main complaints were generally about lack of guidance and players not knowing where to go next. This event is the first one I didn’t need to wiki/dulfy just to figure out wth was going on.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
It’s pretty easy to get the 25 needed. RIght now, everyone is running around Southsun in packs doing events, so those should be a cinch. The 11 sample locations are on dulfy’s site. I only needed 10 (thankfully..i suck at that vents one) cuz I was lucky enough to get Crabtacular. All of the discovery spots have WPs and are just as quick to get as talking to the people on the beach. Then it’s just get those goggles and leap to a fiery death.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
You may want to change to a whiter shade, as it’s quite warm in Southsun and Spring is here…pick up a copy of Elle or Vogue for your up-to-date fashion tips. Remember, even armor can be stylish. You don’t want to leave an ugly corpse. Especially if the Karka eat you. That leftover shell should be current & chic.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Yea I’ve been desperately wanting to bring the improved Healing Turret into dungeons with me. I like to support my teammates when I can and HT does it nicely. The idea was to drop it and spam its overcharge on cooldown to trigger my Altruism runes too. ’Course, it just dies before I can get a 2nd overcharge off. So instead I either drop>overcharge>detonate and wait the long duration or bring medpack and spam it to death and spread might/fury.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
•Fixed a bug which disabled certain traits from functioning correctly. This includes Rifled Turret Barrels, Metal Plating, and Autotool Installation.
But is not inclusive? Are we to assume all disabled traits now work? Shouldn’t patch notes list every trait that was fixed? Is it just those 3 or others as well? You’d think with all the flak Scope has been getting they’d have opted to throw that one on the list.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
I’m 80. I run dungeons and DEs and world bosses. Ya know, the whole PvE thing. I get drops (mostly blues & greens obviously). Some are lvl 80, some are not. Everything white I salvage cuz they don’t sell for jack. But when and what else do I salvage? Do I salvage lvl 80 blues that vend for 1s or just merch em? What about lvl 77 blues? Greens? If I can get 30s from a rare on the TP, should I sell it or salvage it?
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
If I’m not shooting for a Legendary, what can I do with my SPs? Are there any gamble boxes or something useful other than Legendary mats?
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
That pet. I don’t know why, but that pet REALLY bugs the hell out of me. I know I don’t really need to manage it. I could theoretically just let it die all the time and it wouldn’t be much different… but there’s something about it that bothers me
Actually, that pet accounts for like 40% of your damage. You really need to keep it alive. In open world, there’s not much you have to do. In dungeons, you’ve got to recall it & swap often. In PvP you’ll probably want to trait into it.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
If you have a free character slot you can roll any adventurer class, choose the best looking head armor piece, and then transmute it onto a white item. That item is now account-bound and can be given to your Ranger. So you can get not only your original ranger headgear, but also engineer goggles/backpack or thief hood.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Dulfy is in my guild on Yaks Bend and she’s pretty much on the spot in terms of gathering information on new items/events/patches.
I bet you she’s waiting patiently for the patch right now, pen and notepad on hand!
I’m on Yak’s Bend. What guild?!
…watch she’s probably in my guild and I never even knew it.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Just rolled an ele & mesmer to lvl 10 and I feel like the ele will offer the more dynamic, enjoyable play style. I’m coming from an Engineer main. So…
I see a lot of D/D threads, but don’t know if that’s end-game exclusive or good for PvE leveling too. What weapon(s) tend to work best for leveling? Which traitlines support leveling? Seems strange to attunement swap so freely but be pigeonholed into attunement-specific traitlines. Any must-have traits at low levels? Should I stack healing power over vit & tough due to all the water attunement healing and the signet?
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Grenades don’t need any improvements. They’re our best kit by far. Now, adding a blast finisher to flamethrower….
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
I can’t believe we still need this thread. We’re still talking about Scope (and the other 19 pages) after all these months…it’s ridiculous.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Still can’t understand why, after spending x number of hours changing a skill, the programmer can’t then find the line of text in the code & simply edit the text. It’s really as simple as that.
no it’s not. some dev explained it once, months ago. i’m too lazy to look for the thread now, but the gist of it was: it’s a long, tedious and costly process mainly due to the required localization. they have to wait and pay for everything they need transalted into french, german and spanish. if i remember correctly, they even have to do that if they just change around numbers, too. which i find ironic.
It’s better if they do them all in a lump anyways. That way they can ensure more consistent formatting, and we don’t have to get interrupted frequently in WvW and such because a tooltip needed updating.
Mind you, I think they put off the tooltip updates a bit long, but I guess they had been previously focusing a lot more on balance stuff during which tooltips were in flux.
Like say…every month? When they update the skills? I’m not expecting daily updates to tooltips for hotfixes and bug reports. But for the big monthly content patches, when they revamp/rebuild/buff/nerf/move a skill/trait…the least they could do is properly describe (via tooltip) what it does.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
another thing; the recent confusion nerf more or less completely got rid of the usefulness of pry bar altogether.
Aside from the fact that it hits like a truck hauling another truck.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
I had the same dilemma. I just started running with a 20/30/0/20/0 build without speedy kits for the first time ever. For out of combat running, I have to rely on MedKit #5, which is annoying. But in combat, I have the Firearms III trait Infused Precision which grants 5s swiftness on crit (50%). Running a high crit FT build I actually have swiftness quite a lot.

Still can’t understand why, after spending x number of hours changing a skill, the programmer can’t then find the line of text in the code & simply edit the text. It’s really as simple as that. It takes longer to find the code than change it, and I’m sure there’s a search function in there. It’s just text. If tooltips can’t be current, then there shouldn’t be any. What’s the point of a wrong tooltip? Might as well just see “shoot stuff” hovering over every gun skill.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Here’s the thing: this gaming is ever-changing, ever-evolving, ever-balancing. Whether players like the choices Anet makes or not, every month will bring skill/trait changes. One month Engi (or any profession) could get a huge buff & become top on the dps charts. Next month, it gets nerfed and is middle of the road. A build gets squashed, another rises, it gets squashed, another rises….you get the idea.
Nobody can predict what Anet will do with any particular profession. Play the one you enjoy; the one that has an engaging, dynamic playstyle that you find fun. If you wanna hack n’ whack stuff with a plethora of weapons, play your warrior. If you wanna burn things with a bombs, grenades, and flamethrowers, play an engi. Find one you enjoy.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Warriors deal 40k damage with a six second recharge skill. Grenades can hit for 3k every 1 second from 1,500 range + condition damage. That’s not even using grenade barrage.
So the title of this thread could also be “every weapon except GS is worthless for Warriors.” You’re trying to make an argument by stating the highest-dps spec makes all other kits/weapons awful.
Also, the purpose of Napalm isn’t for high damage. It’s to maintain burning for the +10% dmg from FT#1. I’d love to see a blast finisher on FT too, but with the #2 having a 6s (iirc) cooldown, that’d be OP. The kit has burning, high damage-low cooldown skill, aoe blind, knockback, fire field. Seems fine to me.
Also, it has great range than warrior GS and it doesn’t require the enemy to stand still while you channel the skill.
Final Point: Flamethrower just looks awesome.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Seems like people want what other games they used to play had. So they want “raids.” Which were essentially large-group dungeons. We have dungeons. We have bosses that can be fought with large groups. No, the world bosses aren’t instanced. Which makes them even more dynamic. I’m not sure where the advantage to an instanced raid is.
Raid-style boss = open world bosses
Do you miss the trash you have to clear pre-boss? Cuz you can just slaughter moas while you wait for the boss to appear.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
@OP: all of your examples were of non-GW2 related things.
To me, casual refers to how much time & dedication one needs to pour into the game to achieve game-related milestones. This would include high level armor, weapons, dungeons, achievements, leveling, etc. These are core aspects of the game that, in GW2, don’t require 1000hrs to achieve. You can hit max level fast, easily, solo or in groups, run dungeons, & amass currencies (karma, tokens) for armor.
What you, the OP, are asking for are other things to do; mini-games to waste your time on while not playing the game. Fishing…why? You want to fish, go outside & fish. Or play a fishing game. This is not bass hunters. This is not big game hunters. You want to hunt an animal? Go to Queensdale and kill the Boar for the group DE.
Taming/raising/feeding pets: You can tame. Feeding was annoying and WoW eventually got rid of it cuz they realized it too. Raising: with a single pet sure. But with access to so many raising would overwhelm rangers and not let them actually use their pets for actual gameplay.
Lottery: Play the game, RNG will determine your drops. Congrats. There’s your lottery.
Housing: Why? Play The Sims. There’s your housing. I don’t want to decorate a house…I want to play GW2 and ya know…run dungeons, kill stuff, explore…
If you want to play the game caually, do it. If you want to play mini-games, buy an xbox & play Fusion Fenzy with your friends.

Legendaries are one of the only Prestige items in the game.
But everything else is less prestige, more an indicator of accomplishments. It’s not necessarily prestigious to have the “Been There, Done That” title, but it displays the player’s dedication & diligence. Certain armor or weapons illustrate a player’s participation in events. I suppose PvP rank titles can be prestigious because they’re based completely on your PvP history.
