If your going for a healing support then zealots will be your best bet. Youl still deal decent damage (Which you can make up for with depending on how you play your character. Most zerk dungeon/fractal runners ive met dont really know how to bring hte best out of there chars as there simply bandwaggoning.) If you intend to take the support playstyle seriously your gonna have ALOT more things to watch (which will definitely help in increasing your situational awareness)
Learning what can be blocked entirely by a blind or aegis and what attacks come in multiple parts (Requiring some healing to deal with) can actually let you help your grp alot. If people aren’t using there water/blast combos or there internal heals until there spiked there more likely to survive becuase theyl have htere personal heal off cooldown. This is more true for high level fractals however. Because there really arn’t many places elsewhere in the game where there are mobs that can power through a groups accidental healing.
Gods this is….Did you even think about this first? Drivers already run the tankiest builds they can while still feeling effective. One of the ONLY ways to deal with them is to Corrupt there boons or Pull,Push them away from the zerg. Unless you want every mesmer on the planet running moa for sole purpose of shutting down drivers.
And there seems to be see-sawing in philosophy of where to take the game. Back to merging queues? Do we remember why the didn’t work in the first place?
When we had them together everyone hated being stacked (which is understandable) and wanted a solo queue. When we had solo queue everyone hated how it was random and the ladder meant practically nothing.
Now we have them together and everyone hates being stacked against (again, understandable.)
The solution isn’t to try the same thing no one liked, the solution is take care of the actual problem: being stacked against. I’m working on that. Looking at the data, the current implementation seems to be helping, but still has a quite ways to go. I have a few ideas I’m going to run by some people on Monday, and I’ll run a lot more simulations before bringing them into the server.
Another part of the problem is the perception players have, which is being fueled by a selection and confirmation biases, and was not helped by unranked and profession ratings starting at the default.
Just wanted to pop in and urge you to not let the ranting get to you. This whole ordeal is easily the most apparent case of confirmation bias I’ve ever seen.
I (and many others with me) thoroughly enjoy the more streamlined system, and have very high hopes on where the new algorithms will take the match quality once MMR settles down and what not.

I have to agree. Ive had more even games no when queing both as a solo quer and with a couple friends than I have in hte last YEAR of the game. I used to be in one of those interesting areas k*tten the people above you were massively more experienced and those below you were no where near your level. Its pretty hard to get out of that when you bounce between being roflstomped and creaming someone.
Now though when I que more often than not ive actually been facing people that know what there doing without being god mode at it. Which means im learning and improving again. And thats what I want in pvp >.< Id wait 10-15 minutes for a match where Ill actually fight someone I have a chance to learn from so I can kill em in the next match.

If your looking for an interesting power bm build that plays similar but in a differenct direction to what your used to you can try my build.
In WvW I have two zealots sets for it. IN TPvP I use clerics. I use either a Power rune (something like scholars) or a healing power rune (water is my prefered)
If your interested I can give you some ideas on how its played most effectively. What im posting is the TPvP version I use for node fighting.
I will say that when played properly youl win nearly every 1v1 provided equally skilled opponents and you wont lose out in a team fight. Its recovery is such that ive been able to full heal after soaking a burst from full glass thieves and mesmers will little trouble. All while still doing damage.
Maybe someone should snag a red post. We could start a poll for rangers.

Wind rider trumps that it has NO legs. Instead it has wierd tendril air fins. Much cooler than legs.
Im kinda leading towards the previously mentioned idea of a magically infused water source (river passing through a ley line maybe?) being blocked by something. Maybe by whatever creature is generating THE FREAKING CREEPY PULSATING TENTACLES HEADING TOWARDS OUR MAIN BASE IN THE SILVERWASTES (takes a deep breath).
Anyway id be willing to bet rapid growth of a plant of that size would take not only a large amount of water but also a large amount of magic. Magically infused river(s) takes both and runs with it. We know this location has pretty extreme magical significance. Wouldn’t suprise me at all if this is the case.
But still. This is best explanation I can think of for the maguuma wastes drying up. Giant plant dragon champion that makes the tower of nightmare look like a toothpick. And its making is pulsating way towards our base.

kitten times like this I wish I could atleast be on your server long enough to run screening for you. Having someone to ward off wreckers would be helpful Hopefully the commanders on your server are willing to que up to defend you.
Speaking not as a mesmer but as a ranger/necro that likes to research and fight other classes this trait gets mixed results on me. I usualy rum a cleric bm ranger (62006) and a DS/MM cavalier necro (20606)
My necro doesn’t fear much form this trait. Either transfering it or letting ds soak it takes away most of the sting.
My ranger while it doesn’t fear it it definetly makes me wake up more than most of my opponents. Id say im in the upper level of rangers (Not the best but FAR from the worst) Most opponents I have a very well learned pattern of fighting. This trait however throws me off quite regularly. I usually alternate heavily between melee and ranged in order to keep the enemy moving. However this trait instead keeps ME moving once I know its there. It can be really disruptive to get hit by it when im fighting something I HAVE to kite (hambow warrior. Lich necro. condi warriors. D/D Ellies.) Id say its a pretty amazing +1 trait.
When you see someone else is fighting someone and you just want to kitten that 1v1 over as hard as you can this is a good way to do it. Atleast that is how it feels on the receiving. As I said. Im not a mesmer. But atleast I know what its like to get wacked by it at the worst possible moment.

Underwater combat has as far as I can tell been suspended. They havn’t release underwater content in an extremely long time. Id be willing to bet that itl be updated when the deep sea dragon comes out. But when they will be I don’t know. I would fully expect some kind of trap adaptation then however same goes with necromancer wells. (I could easier see traps taking on a more organic look (sea snake trap, Piranha trap, Jellyfish trap) and wells becoming something like dark vortex spells (like longer duration circular aoes (since aoes are easier to avoid underwater due to 3d movement)).
However I dont see it being changed anytime soon. On the bright side. Very little of the game actually takes place underwater as of now.
I have no problem with this. I can’t personally think of a way that this could be abused. And it would simultaneously be something that would improve necro gameplay. Knowing exactly when your stunbreak is on cooldown will help you decide whether to trust your deathshroud to soak it or try to break out of the ping pong meta. u.u

I gotta say the idea of a warp sounds good. If anyone here has ever played planetside two spawn camping is a matter of course. One of the best ways to break them unless you are MASSIVELY outnumbered is to use hte teleporter in almost every spawn room to go to a secondary shielded area where you can work to break the spawncamp from behind. Alot of clutch wins are made by using these. And maybe itl encourage people not to idiotically slam themselves into a murder ball when they dont have a single heavy
SPREAD OUT PEOPLE. The murder ball isnt exactly fast. Take some swiftness and kite the kittens. If they dont split up they can chase one at a time. Snipe the guy in hte back of the ball then scatter again. Squishy builds are usually bursty. USE THAT instead of trying to 5v5 a group of warriors and guardians like a bunch of morons.
I never knew you could only fight in the center of courtyard pardon me I missed the sign saying :"diving hole and farming for dummies ". If it takes you 2 years to adapt you weren’t that good anyway and you will learn the team aspect of the game the hard way.

Moose f2 would be a trample charge that knocks back enemies. Normal attacks would cause vulnerablity and have a chance to knock down.

We already have that decision with bears vs drakes or dogs. If your suggestion was implemented exactly the way you worded it, I’m not sure how those 3 pets would fit into the picture. Bears are already useless, and you’d make them even more useless.
Im not sure how theyd be “even more useless” Theyd have similar survival level against condi builds a little vulnerability against power builds and theyd deal significantly higher damage. If we increased the animation speed of the arctodus and poison bear(kitten im having a failure moment here I cant remember its name…Murfelow?) They might actually have a niche instead of the current “if you use this in any situation at any point at any time your a failure” stigma.
Alot of people are seeing one way to play TDM and they repeatedly try to emulate it to mixed results. The sooner they realise they dont have to mindlessly die over and over agian the sooner they try new things and find ways to break the current “strategy”. Its not even that complex. Just wish peoples inability to adjust wasnt giving the map a bad name.
Benjamin if your entire team loses hope just because one person dies I think you have a larger fundamental problem. That or you rammed into the murderball without checking to see if anyone was running non ramming builds. Murderball is easy to break if you play smart. Not so much if mindlessly ram it in the first go have someone die and then trickle back in as your individual respawn timers go down.
Thanks for working to improve the PvP experience. Ive actually been having some of the most interesting games and im not a HARDCORE pvper (no team sadly although if anyones looking for a ranger or necro in the U.S. Eastern let me know). Its been a good bit of time since I last fought people that I new for certain were more skilled than I was. Ive been changing things up and actually improving for hte first time in awhile.
Sure its frustrating to get partnered against 5 man teams when your solo queing. But thats becoming less and less common. Also these experiences tend to teach you ALOT more about pvp than fighting another random solo quer. After my last team disbanded due to real life issues I never bothered to find another. Now im actually looking because I want to get INTO these matches against these people more often.
I hope I can stay near the top of the solo quers so I get partnered against them again.
I don’t mind courtyard. what I mind is scrubs/trolls ragequitting when it pops, or when they die once or twice. this, like other maps, sucks when youre outnumbered

One of the things i have an issue with is people not even realising They dont have to sit in the middle and let the murder ball roll over them. A balanced build can kite a ball just as well as a single person. In my last courtyard we had 3 rangers and two condi necros. You think we sat in the middle?
We had 2 condi rangers laying traps and pelting a given target. They adjusted there builds so they had piercing and just had constant condis on one person. Sure it got cleansed by the ball but it didnt really matter. The condi necros kept pelting and slowing down the entire ball did a good job of keeping poison up with the help of hte condi rangers. I was playing a cleric BM ranger so I just let my drake sit in the murderball and start tailswiping the entire grp for 7k bursts. Drakes are AWESOME for killing groups like these. It hink if the other two rangers had also been using htem it would be easy. WE just kited around the edge of hte map and forced htem to split there ball up. Then it became a series of 2v3 and 3v2s.
People only die to the murder ball because they arent bright enough to realize you dont have to sit there and slam into it over and over again. Spread out and cover eachothers backs and you force them to split up. Then its actually up to skill and not who can spam cool downs the hardest.
Because you don’t have to play it. Don’t vote for Skyhammer or court yard if you hate it.
That’s not true. Even if only 1 out of 10 players votes Skyhammer, you can still end up playing that map in the current system.
True but its a one in 10 chance htat map will be picked. And the voting system is designed around hte concept of people being able to play the maps they want to. There are people out there that enjoy courtyard and skyhammer but would never have the chance of playing them without the voting system except on custom arenas. And I can understand why they wouldn’t want to go THERE because of how easy it is to imbalance them and cheat the system to switch to team the winning team at will.
Giving them a one in ten chance of getting there favorite map doesn’t seem like the end of the world.

I definitely agree. I enjoy courtyard because it encourages people to try new things. When your no longer confined to a point your priority when you check your build changes. Since I was actually able to kite properly on my necro I swapped out some of my defensive traits that I normally HAD to have to avoid being a ping pong ball on a point and went for something that let me help the others on my team take less damage.
Thats something that simply wouldn’t be acceptable in the current conquest meta
As the system gets older and gains more data the pairings will become more accurate. Thats how systems such as this work. The possibility of wider range matchups will get lower and lower. In time the only chance that youl be partnered against people heavily outside your bracket is during low population times. When they cant make you wait that long to find people in your range.
Its a literal case of “It will get fixed with time” as we continue to play itl get better. If we kitten about it and make them change things that dont need to be change we are just setting back the clock.

@robert Why is conquest something the game should be balanced around? Introducing other modes into the same pool is how we change the balance of the game as the goal of the balance changes as well.
As for the builds being balanced around it. Yeah. The builds are balanced around fighting on tiny point. We FINALLY have(had) an opportunity to have people start making NEW builds because the goal of the map was different. Wed start seeing bunker builds being replaced by actual support builds for once. Something that is minority in conquest as support is secondary to personal survival. Often supporting a team mate was accidental at best. Thats no longer the case in TDM version of a support build. Meaning it would be a different build AND playstyle we could have had become a thing.
The longer conquest is left as the sole center of our pvp world the more likely that any gamemode or map that steps outside of that tiny view of pvp is gonna be a gimmick at best.
Id love to see more maps be put in with other game modes. Id like to see another TDM map with an assault/king of the hill/assassination/ and attrition maps as well and have them actually MEAN something instead of being “that thing in custom arenas”. Because there are entire playstyles that simply cant and never will exist in the current capture and hold map.
Sadly from the reactions I have seen over the last few days. I kinda doubt that will ever happen.
When signing up for a Multiplayer environment the enjoyment of all people in the environment depends on the people around them. Thats how multiplayer works.
If one person decides to que for a player vs player match at that moment its no longer about one person. There are NINE other people whos enjoyment of the game depends on that tenth.
If you cant handle that. Then you shouldn’t play multiplayer games. Becuase otherwise, Everytime someone chooses to let there boredom take over while there in a que and they wonder off somewhere or whenever someone ques and “just doesn’t feel like it” when the que pops, they are damaging the quality of gameplay for the other nine.
Dont PvP if you can’t handle what that involves. Dont que if your not ready to play.
This may or may not be in the ladder matches, along with skyhammer.
It will not be included during season play.

If your upset at having to reset your builds then instead of crying for it to be split. (might I add courtyard is only ONE map so it would likely be alone in its que until new maps could be developed would would seemingly be a waste of UI space IMO) You should be pushing for the ability to save our builds and layouts. Something weve been wanting for awhile that would completely solve that little issue.
As for wasting time. We have over a minute before the start of the match each match to adjust our build. Most people already know there builds and can switch with relative ease. The only issue is that now people need to learn builds that work in a team DM environment.

First. I never said TDM was complex or “intricate” a word you quoted from gods know where. Its simplicity is what gives people freedom in the match. (well done somehow managing to get that COMPLETELY wrong) The players make it as complicated as they like instead of the map itself chaining a player to specific areas.
As for it being worth playing. Its worth playing because it requires a different thought process than conquest. When the objective is different the game is different and people play differently. Which is the whole point of another game mode. That alone makes it worth it. Because people do different things making the fight something actually NEW. And we play games for these new experiences and the whole alure behind pvp is that its NOT a scripted fight where the enemy does the same thing each round over and over.
Also theres this wonderful VOTING system in the game now. Imagine that. Meaning courtyard would never even be on the wheel when it started spinning unless SOMEONE looked at it and thought (hmm id like to play that). Map voting has been a thing in pvp games for a LOOOOOONG time now. The ONLY difference between gw2s map voting and others is that now people that actually enjoy playing on generally disliked maps with a full team actually has that opportunity even if its at a ONE IN TEN CHANCE
What you want is to pretty much take that away from them. Yeah you can play on your map. But in order to have a full team youl likely have to wait 30-40 minutes in que. Boy wouldn’t THAT be fun.
Honestly I understand its frustrating. However once dishonor is turned on (Im pretty sure it hasnt been turned on yet?) That will all but vanish.
Namely due to the fact that people that do that wont be able to que again for awhile.
So itl actually be impossible for someone to repeatedly cause 9/10 afk resets more than once in a given time period. And as the dishonor stacks up that time period will be longer and longer.
Id guess its actually some kitten doing it on purpose not afking. Not every time. but enough of the time. Once the dishonor system is up and if it works as advertised that should lessen to an extremely small amount.
EDIT: Keep in mind that these are the situations that you would have ended up in a 4v5 in the match. The system actually does a good job of mitigating that as you cant cause a 4v5 by being afk. Now its actually due to KNOWINGLY causing a 4v5 or dcing. Both of which will also be mitigated by the dishonor system.
Shrapnel one of the BIGGEST complaints towards ANET was that there wasn’t enough game modes. The reason for this is (in part) that certain builds work incredibly well in conquest style matches that actually bar the inclusion of other types of builds. Some of those builds can ONLY be powerful in conquest which protects them from sever nerfing because doing so would effectively remove an entire playstyle from the game.
TDM is the staple PvP setup though. Team vs Team at its most basic. Courtyard is difficult for people to adjust to because there isn’t a simple "fight here’ or “fight there”.
You dont see hit and run builds in conquest because attacking a point serves little purpose if you dont either take the point/Decap the point/ or tie up multiple people ON that point.
Namely. People are kitteny about courtyard becuase they were stupid enough to think that a game mode with a different rule system would actually use the same builds to the same effect. In a TDM mode any and all fear my necro has towards a hambow dissapears in an instant. Same with most engineers. Because im not forced to fight these builds in tight quarters where I get turned into a ping pong ball.
Yes it gets rid of the point capture gameplay. Which is EXACTLY THE POINT OF A NEW GAME MODE. Did you think any other game mode would play like conquest?

TDM IS a new game mode. It has a different objective. A different scoring system. A different playbook.
If you can’t adjust to something as SIMPLE as team death match. Than I HOPE they never add something actually mildly complex like the Assault and King of the Hill game modes.

honestly hasnt made as much a difference as I thought. I just have to be a little more careful on the initial engage watching for an early burst. The improved staff auto kinda makes up for it becuase one necrotic grasp hitting 2-3 people is enough to get me into DS.
I guess its more annoying than it is actually harmful.
AAxtxe would be cool but its so bulky it woudl almost certainly end up a tank pet.
Id really like to have a thieflike or casterlike pet. Something fast moving or something that can significantly affect an area.

Then I got into it and realized how much fun it is to be able to actually fight in any location on a map without hurting your team. Where the only limitation is whether or not you can WIN that engagement.
Turns into a really fun match when you think about it that way. Im happy its in the ques. As for skyhammer. The fun part of the voting system is that if there wasnt someone that wanted to play it it would NEVER get selected…..ever. If no one votes on it it doesnt even have a chance of being selected. If people are voting on it it meens they WANT to play it.
More than enough reason for it to be in the roster.

Once the system actually places everyone I imagine this will get alot better. Alot of people are being partnered against others with higher or lower ability. With teams and against teams. Itl spread back out as time goes though and im willing to bet the only people whining on hte forums at that point will be people who were convinced of there own skill level and they cant understand why they seem to get partnered with people they view as less than capable. (Time to look in a mirror for those types)
ALOT of people are blatantly choosing to forget that our positioning up to this point has been reset. It means that all the teams. And all the solo quers are in hte same spot. This WILL CHANGE. Teams will move up. Solo quers will move down. Eventually the only solo quers that come up against teams will be those that are skilled enough to handle it. They may not win. But theyl definetly give a run for there money. Youl probably see a few solo quers outpacing the majority of teams as well.
If you take a look at the previous announcements youl see that it was pretty well knwon the first few days or even the first week will be rough. You can either wait out the week. Or you can find a stable position faster by continuing to play to hte best of your abilities. If you lose youl be lowered and they will be raised and you wont fight them again until you rise up to there level or your playing during a downtime.
I guarantee if people are patient a large number of the issues will actually sort themselves out.
I did 5 games today. The first two were against teams. The next three were against lower quality teams that me and my group of solo quers were able to win against. Thats because everyone is shuffling around rapidly and itl take time to get everyone properly situated.
I agree with briggah, the new UI’s are disgusting to look at but honestly I don’t even care about that. Post patch we can no longer be in custom arenas during queues, no longer prebuff at the gate, and we have to play Skyhammer, Orb Watch, and Courtyard in RANKED arenas. Not to mention the countless bugs that make it feel like nothing was tested. What a joke.
“Have to” hmm It would never appear if SOMEONE didn’t want to play those maps. The fact that there there means again SOMEONE in your 10 wants to play it. Probably more than one someone.
