That’s why you time the mark to be cast just as they are landing from spamming DB. The evade frames are done by then. After that just don’t attack and they can’t dodge them off.

A plea to teammates of the thief: don’t yell “OMG thief why u no decapp nab” when you keep charging far and bring enemy there all the time.

This, so much this.

If you have a thief don’t try to play 3 points. Let the thief handle the third point. The enemy team doesn’t really need to have all 5 go back home so they can leave one mid that can handle a thief in a fight. With most maps, particularly Forest they can respawn and go back into the fight if they get killed.

@R O C, you try too hard. Seriously, this old and dead. Move on. I know you’re sensitive but really you should have let this go days ago. Also, yes, it happens. I had a win with a 4v5 and 2 of us were thieves. Then later there was another 2 thief team I was on and we lost in the end after being up 150 pts and with 400 pts on the board because we got 3 capped and couldn’t get the nodes back in time. Hell I even got my last 5 wins to make it into Diamond on my thief.

Ok other than NOOOO are there any actual arguments against this? There is no correlation to skill in any of the tiers, so this has nothing to do with competition. You will get better matchups if we base it on MMR and remove the pip loss system.

Or do people here not want better match ups? Just want to be carried into a high league so you have a special marker next to your name?

Because then people will complain about pip loss in Diamond and Diamond will be full of people that just grinded their way there. What then, remove pip loss up until Legendary so we can all be Legendary? Because you know when everyone is Legendary nobody is Legendary.

It seems to me that most of the frustration, complaining, horror stories and quitting all comes back to the same thing, pip loss.

This system of losing progress on something you’ve worked hard for is not present in any other area of the game, and is hurting PvP. I propose that pip loss be removed from the tracks up until diamond. Currently the different tiers have no bearing on skill at all and are just leading to endless frustration. Make the tiers a secondary reward structure that only advances upon wins, but does not lose anything on losses.

This will instantly solve many of the complaints and frustrations that players have.

Once you reach diamond tier the system can resume how it currently is and still allow for the competition and extra advancement. Matchmaking will return to being based on MMR alone and not mixed in with the various tiers.

No, people will still kitten about being stuck in Diamond instead of kittening about being stuck in Ruby so it won’t solve anything.

You can hard counter a meta Tempest with invocation Rev or Reaper. Like, I’ll win over a meta Tempest with those two builds 100% of time, regardless of skill.

Yes, it was written tongue in cheek and also to get some advice on what to do against them. Though from some of the responses on this thread and others I can see why people from other games call GW2 the most toxic community. It’s like everyone has this overbearing need to insult and demean any player that isn’t all super MLG and knows everything.

Honestly, if they’re unwilling to make a tooltip adjustment, they’re clearly unwilling to take into account community feedback, which defeats the purpose of this whole initiative. I can only be optimistic, and as mentioned, this is only inspiration, not to expect ANet to port this whole thing as the next elite. A single if statement is quite literally three to five lines in this case per conflicting trait, which is just string substitution. Having personally worked in some game engines, this is a REALLY simple thing to do if the feature is supported (which we know it is in GW2’s engine due to dynamic damage/text updating of tooltips). I don’t mean to dismiss your argument, out of respect for what you’re mentioning, but I really don’t think this is a valid concern in regards to what’s necessary for upkeep of the profession or subsequent elite specs in general.
I actually see it quite concerning if they’re not going to make tooltip adjustments for classes such as the mesmer, however, as a lot of wiggle room for the class hinges on their shatters.

As far as sweeping changes go, I was thinking more along the lines of changing vanilla traits’ functionalities to be cohesive for the sake of an elite.

Changing the functionality of Improvisation is exactly what I have bolded from your statement. Just because the effect effects the same skill slot doesn’t make it not a change, it is still a change to the functionality to be cohesive for the sake of an elite.

I have worked in game development myself as well and I understand how incredibly easy it is to make that happen but just because it is easy to do doesn’t mean they will do it or want to do it.

Either way, you’re having fun with your thing and I have given you feedback on it. You seem to be intent on seeing it your way so we will just have to agree to disagree and go on about our day.

I seriously hate thieves and I mained one when I started playing. It’s still listed as my favorite class on the pvp panel but most of the thief players annoy the hell out of me. Pretty much everyone knows thieves and warriors are pretty much trash tier. Sure there are a few good thief players that can play the class well but overall the class is just outdone by Revenant. The difference between warrior players and thief players is that the warrior players know their class is trash. Thieves on the other hand act like you insulted their family honor for daring to ask them to change when you have more than one or if you say their class is trash they start going on about how you have no idea of what you are talking about and the class is so OP. Then they go on to die over and over again, meanwhile blaming the team for their deaths. Seriously, learn to play another class or stop being so kitten ed stubborn about the class being trash in most player’s hands. /endrant

I hate getting thieves and warriors on my team, thief may not be tier 1, but a really good thief can be a great asset. I had a thief help me go on a 8 win streak and got me my legendary wings which was awesome. That being said, here are the bad things about thief and they’re pretty apparent

-They can’t 1v1 very well, even against a warrior they surprisingly struggle, playing them as the +1er is almost a must

-For every good thief, there are 10 bad ones. A good thief knows the limitations of the class, but were over saturated with a bunch of yolo thieves who think they can carry teams when they’re outclassed instead of just playing their strengths.

This is why thieves annoy me, it’s not an easy class to play right, especially not right now, your chances of getting a good one are usually pretty slim.

Exactly this. I will revoke my statement that the class itself is trash tier but when played badly it is trash tier. The problem is the trash ones refuse to take advice or change to something better suited to their playstyle. So many of them want to be 1v1ers or stick around in team fights for too long, eventually rallying downed enemies. Which if they want to be “assassins” or fight in team fights, that is fine, just pick a class better suited for that role.

Removing cele was not a mistake because it favored might stacking classes, basically giving them 1k+ power and condi damage and 560 in everything else.

@OP Mercenary is just fine. It, Paladin and Menders gave us some new combinations beyond Carrion, Marauder and Celestial. Taking away Mercenary won’t stop you from getting rekt by Reapers, which really aren’t all that OP anyways. They are killable, just learn to kite when they go into shroud.

Removing celestial because it favoured other professions is fine but removing mercenary because it favour reapers would be a mistake?….let me guess why…
Kite a reaper in shroud?…that’s a good one really, maybe you’d like to show us all of us how you do that…..with cripple, chill shout 600 range, chill 1200 range…unblockable

If you find Reapers to be so difficult I really don’t know how you made it to Legendary according to your sig. Mercenary doesn’t favor any particular class. It’s just a stat combo. Any build that wants hybrid damage and a little sustain with it can use Mercenary. Celestial on the other hand favored classes that the ability to stack a lot of Might. A thief could run a Mercenary build but with Celestial it would be worthless because it can’t maintain an easy 25 might stacks like Ele and Necro.

As to how to kite shroud, you kite it just like anything else, use your strafe keys and stuff. For one the Reaper is going to try to range you before going into shroud. Just then try to keep range from the Reaper. I’m only a lowly Diamond and I can do it. Besides in this current meta from what the top tier players tell me it’s more important to win the team fights first and then get the cap on the node. You must be one of those people that rushes onto the node at the opening fight at mid, face tanks all the traps and marks and goes down in the first 5 seconds.

They removed Settler and Crusader because nobody wanted the impossible to kill tanks and gave us Mender instead as a replacement. I don’t really get what you are complaining about. Ele is still meta and brings a very vital role to the game. Are you mad because you can’t have sustain for days plus a lot of damage anymore?

The bias is so strong in your comment jesus and still the removal of mercenary would not change anything about your condibot spammer, what would change is the fact that now power builds (which at the contrary of condibot builds must forsake defense in favour of dmg) would fare better as there would be only one source of dmg to mitigate…..no direct dmg on top of condition dmg , with all the tankiness and vitality

You acted like kiting Reaper shroud was impossible. I’m not all Legendary and have no elite status on leaderboards and I can do it so I don’t see the issue. As for my “condibot spammer” I really have no bias because I multi class and I play with Wander on my condibot already so the bias statement doesn’t really hold water. People complain about a lack of variety and how boring it is that everyone plays the same things but then they introduce some new amulets that are worth taking and people get mad because the game got harder for them or something.

It says use stolen items twice, not use stolen items twice or reset F2 skill.

Now I understand that could be changed easily. I understand how object oriented programming works. However it says use stolen items twice. If someone was on a F2P account or just simply didn’t buy the new xpac then the change on the tooltip should not be there to accommodate a new elite and I’m fairly certain they won’t change it for a new elite. Nor do I think they are going to add an if statement to check to see if you have the Deadeye elite line selected for it. They already said they didn’t want to do stuff like that and if it has to add something from what it already says it does that probably correlates to what you refer to as a sweeping change.

I’m not trying to argue with you. I’m not saying all of this to be a kitten, I’m pointing out an obstacle so that you’re hard work on this doesn’t go to waste because of that.

Probably the best advice i’ve read.

In a similar situation, but I dont think this is the only thing here, I dont realyl care about getting higher, making it to the next division or whatever I just want to have GOOD games. If “you cant progress because that’s where you belong” argument is rubbish because if that was true I would eventually reach a level where I can have decent matches, not 500-33 and such

There is a post I made about this and I agree that if you are getting annihilated each match then you are past where you should be and that is a problem I think needs addressing for season 3.

It was in the podcast when they were previewing the June 23rd patch. It was when Robert Gee was explaining why the Necromancer traits for things like Path of Corruption and Dhuumfire say Shroud Skill X instead of the name of the skill, that way as the introduce new Elite specs they don’t have to change the core traits. They could change the “on steal” part but it’s pretty unlikely they would do that since he said they did that because they don’t want to change core traits to suit elite specs.

I recall them announcing how they were handling the change, and yes, it was a way to universalize the traits and descriptions. The same treatment could be done here, which is why I’m not sure what you’re arguing about; none of the traits need mechanical changes for the Deadeye.

Tooltip updates are really easy and are updated often anyways for better clarity. I doubt this issue would be a problem. The only trait “necessary” to change would be Quick Pockets… Thanks for the input nonetheless.

Quick Pockets and the change to Improvisation, which as you stated was a change from from how it works with Steal to suit the Deadeye mechanic.

Granted it is easy to change the tooltips and changes have been made for clarification where it was done badly before however they also have stated they don’t want to have to change core traits in the future to accommodate new elites. I’m not trying to knock your idea but wouldn’t it make more sense to approach it from the stand point of not making them have to change those core traits to accommodate?

Overall, though, my opinion that a sniper type of elite suits Ranger way more than Thief. Snipers in the military have survival training, tracking, camouflage, etc., which really suits the Ranger more than a pickpocket (thief). I’d rather see the new elite bring a new role, like support, that focuses on the shadow magic, like how Druid focuses on nature magic. The thief really doesn’t need a new damage role because people can’t learn to dodge properly. It needs to be able to bring something new to the table that helps the Shadow Arts line because Acrobatics, Deadly Arts and Critical Strikes already is helped by the Daredevil elite.

I always help. I can’t bring “spamwich” with thief, but I get my job done. That doesn’t stop some idiot from trying to direct all my plays instead of working on his own.

I’m not saying you don’t help but it’s kinda hypocritical to tell people to not tell you how to play and then turn around and tell people how to play to suit a thief on their team. This whole thread started with me talking about how stubborn and arrogant people who insist on always playing thief and pretty much every reply has proven my point.

I mean my example of the thief who just let people run past him and did nothing about it was met with all these excuses about how the team failed instead of him. If I had said “this stupid engi/necro/rev/ele kept letting people run past him” you’d all be talking about how bad his awareness was.

If you’re stuck in Sapphire it’s probably where you belong currently. I came back to this game about a week ago and I was in T2 Sapphire when I had stopped playing early in the second week of Leagues. I made it all the way to T5 Ruby with only 2 losses in one night because I could just dominate every match. But don’t let that get you down, Sapphire and Ruby are where average players end up. I also found that when you stop caring about where you are and just play to have fun you will climb faster than when you are stressing over pips. I was stuck in that hell of getting to 1 pip from Diamond and then going on a losing streak. I just said kitten it and logged onto my thief. 6 matches later I was in Diamond with only 1 loss during the first match.

It add to any condi build that uses power and wants some sustain. It’s not just Reapers that use it and sorry to tell you but Reapers were just as powerful before it was released and some even go with Wanderers instead so it’s not the amulet.

Removing cele was not a mistake because it favored might stacking classes, basically giving them 1k+ power and condi damage and 560 in everything else.

@OP Mercenary is just fine. It, Paladin and Menders gave us some new combinations beyond Carrion, Marauder and Celestial. Taking away Mercenary won’t stop you from getting rekt by Reapers, which really aren’t all that OP anyways. They are killable, just learn to kite when they go into shroud.

Even though I posted this rant and stubborn thieves that are playing badly really annoy me, I will defend a thief that is playing well and doing their part. Like last match we had an engi that was blaming our thief who was helping me in a 2v2 to defend home saying that thief was at far and leaving them in outnumbered fights which was impossible considerring we were in an even fight and at one point was 2v3 for just long enough to put me in the downed state. By the time I came back the thief had managed to disengage and then come back to backcap home while they went for gate.

Edit: The pic is a little cut off at the top but it was me asking someone else besides the thief to help me defend home. No disrespect to the thief but the thief shouldn’t have been having to defend home when the engi should have been.

A good thief is worth their weight in gold, a bad thief is also worth their weight in gold…for the other team.

With a good thief, your team can feel like you’re playing 6v5. A bad one however, is like you’re 4v6ing.

Yeah, earlier we had a match with each team having a thief. The other thief was good and ours was not. The rest of us in chat had made comments about wishing we could have their thief instead. Theirs made us have to leave someone at home and ours was just a rallybot at mid.

It was in the podcast when they were previewing the June 23rd patch. It was when Robert Gee was explaining why the Necromancer traits for things like Path of Corruption and Dhuumfire say Shroud Skill X instead of the name of the skill, that way as the introduce new Elite specs they don’t have to change the core traits. They could change the “on steal” part but it’s pretty unlikely they would do that since he said they did that because they don’t want to change core traits to suit elite specs.

I don’t complain at the start of a match or decide we are going to lose because of a thief. What bothers me is when you have a thief that keeps dying at mid fights, won’t decap or rotate to help stop decaps, tries to win Skirmisher of the year award while we keep losing home. I wait to see how they perform. 9/10 of them will act indignant when you ask them to do their job. Like I said in a previous post that you glossed over is that it gets really annoying when you have a thief that tries to be a teamfighter at mid or 1v1 for far against a class they have no business fighting instead of doing their job. Like earlier I had one on my team that tried and died 1v1ing a druid at far. The other day I had one that kept rushing from home to mid on legacy and just letting someone run past him to backcap home as I was running past him on a necro to stop it from happening. That complete lack of awareness is annoying and when I said “Theif could you please pay more attention” even using the word please I got a string of insults from said thief for asking him to not let enemies decap us while not doing anything to decap the enemy nodes.

On the other hand I had a thief that was doing stuff like this and I asked him to work on his skills some and instead of being an kitten he whispered and asked me how to improve. I pointed out he needed to stealth up when he wants to decap so he doesn’t just pull enemies with him and die off point and that when he came to +1 a fight he attacked the tempest on point at henge node instead of the necro on the ledge freecasting on us since I (on engi) and someone else (can’t recall what he was on) were trying to hold on to the point at a clutch moment at the end of a close game that could win or lose it for us. He was cool, thanked me for the advice and now when we see each other we are friendly to one another.

So I don’t hate thief, it’s the stubborn players that play it that refuse to change their bad habits or pick a new class that is more suitable. Someone once told me that if I wanted to fight in teamfights to change classes because I wasn’t playing the role correctly plus I’m old now and my reflexes aren’t what they were once so thief is a bad pick for me. Some players who play thief can’t accept that the class is bad for them and continue to insist to play it. Which if they do want to, then fine, do it but please not in ranked.

A thief has no business saving your team from decaps unless it’s an enemy thief

It was an enemy thief.

And even if it wasn’t and was only going to rotate back to home after it gets backcapped, which he kept doing, he could have at least turned around and used his mobility to get back on the point to contest it until I came on the point and then left. The whole match this particular thief never went for a decap on far.

Why didn’t the rest of your team stop the decaps on home. The simple fact that your thief had to tells me that everyone on your team BUT the thief was the reason you lost.

The thief didn’t have to, it was the fact he wasn’t decapping and just letting people run past him and not doing anything about it. The fact I saw him do it twice in a row.

The thief should not be watching home at all except to intercept someone before they can get near the point.

Now during a wipe or the need to regroup a good thief can run home to stall the decap until a respawn arrives but that’s it.

Lastly in your scenario that the thief ran by someone pushing home I have to ask the question. Why was that thief even at home in the 1st place? Your team should have been there

But in your grand wisdom of playing thief in order to play with a thief while I was playing Legacy map as a Corruptionmancer Reaper should I have camped home the whole game or rotated between mid and home, which is what I was doing all game because that is how I saw him keep missing people coming through that passage way to get quarry node? I mean do I have to be his eyes for him to?

From the beginning of the match y’all should have set up who keeps an eye on home. I don’t know what your comp was but i bet 4 other players should have watched home over that thief

Azukas, we never told him to watch home, we asked him to cap it at the start because thieves have good mobility. Why is it that you are so focused on that while completely ignoring the facts that…

1.) He wasn’t decapping far, aka his job.
2.) He was letting people go by to backcap, aka bad awareness.
3.) He was trying to play like a teamfighter at mid, aka not his role.

But please tell me again how it was everyone but his fault?
