Are you sure? Grenadier trait was banned during ESL, all ‘competitive’ teams played.
Honestly, there is not much difference between banning bugged and/or broken stuff… for example I would rather watch tournament with some stuff banned (e.g. some D/D toys to promote diversity) than tournament without bans (reason I don’t watch ESLs anymore – they are boring).

Exactly “banned” shortly after it was banned from ESL because it was bugged.

There were other ‘bugged’ things that wasn’t banned. Really don’t get your point.

The point is that it was bugged bad enough that ANet even removed it from non-competitive play. ESL just did it quicker, probably because they have cash prizes involved.

One thing you can do when you get a poor comp is changing classes or asking others to change classes. I main a thief but play other classes some too incase I get stuck with 1 or more thieves on my team besides myself. Just be proactive and do something to alter your comp instead of QQing about it on the forums.

^Everytime I’ve gone against a 4 thief team we’ve thrashed them. But in the ops defense this map is broken and holding the points don’t really matter. The guardian just needs to be able to run and the thieves can act as a gank squad.

Not sure why anyone would pay you 25 gold to enter this when Academy Gaming and Aspect GG hold weekly tournaments that don’t require a pay in fee, offer prizes and are hosted by people that are knowledgeable enough to know that Thieves Guild is the worst elite on the Thief class.

For Ex: a Comp of full rampage warriors would be a ridiculously broken comp allowing 5 rampages to tear through the map with relatively no damage taken from white damage or condition pressure, Arena Net hasn’t yet balenced Rampage and some other skills effectively enough for organized 5v5, but if things change the rule-book will be altered.

If this were true you would already see this in ESL.

Plus that would be easily counterable by a 5 Mesmer team.

I had this happen and what I did was restart my computer. When I restarted it did remove a trojan (not sure if this is related, though) and I was able to login.

Having a high PS could also mean a person spent a lot of time fighting off point and getting the extra 10 points for Skirmisher on those kills. I have seen games where we beat the other team by ~200 points but on the PS our team would all be <200 while they were almost all >200.

Yeah PS doesn’t really matter for the most part. I mean a score of 0 while everyone else has a relatively high score usually means that person did nothing for the team but sometimes the losing team will all have higher PS points than the winning team so that doesn’t mean anything really. They still lost. Usually playing a roamer I will rotate off a point we just won the team fight on to go to help on another and leaving a tankier person to cap so I won’t get the points for that cap but I know I am doing what I should to help the team win.

It must be something in the water today. I had a guy rage at me for being a “useless thief” because my score was second to lowest after we lost 498-501 and thus I was the worst person on the team in his eyes. The only reason the guy who got less points than me had an excuse is that he was obviously new because only people new to the game make the mistake of running Staff Ele.

In any case, I think the point here is that we really do need more forum discussion from top tier players, as their perspective usually has some truth and value and often offers insight that tends to not be noticed.

Edit: And not just because of insight, but also it builds community. If you look at other games like LoL and liquipedia, pros often commentate which kinda “liven up” the forums. It’s nice to have the community more connected.

It would be nice but I can see why they don’t since they have offered their insight in other places and would likely just be repeating themselves over and over and over again. An example would be all the posts about classes not being balanced around 1v1 while there is an excellent explanation of why it isn’t by Kurher. Yet even with that out there and can be easily found people will still come here saying the game should be balanced around 1v1 instead of offering a variety classes for different roles and a changing meta that doesn’t get stale.

Steal is just fine as it is. Not getting 3 initiative back and the skill CD recharge from Improvisation for not successfully stealing is completely fair. You shouldn’t be able to get your heal or elite skill refreshed for just pressing F1 on top of getting a 3s reduction in weapon skill CDs. Other abilities that lower a CD in someway that isn’t just a base reduction from a trait require it to be successful. Thrill of the Crime is as it is to allow for the swiftness proc on your team at the start of a match basically. Plus you still get stealth from Hidden Thief if you don’t hit a target.

No, because this affects more than just people resetting fights which is really not that large of an issue anyways. A person has to go a pretty good distance away to restart a fight and get their health back up. Far enough away that typically means you are going to at least decap the point if it is a 1v1.

You also have to look at it from a defensive stand point and not just what the other guy is doing. So you win the fight, get the stomps and all of that. Then what? You have to waste a heal skill to prepare for the upcoming attack from the respawn instead of just getting that back like it is now? That would be a real pain to have to deal with and would happen more often than some guy running halfway across the map just to reset his health bar.

Inb4 someone argues that killing and getting the stomps should be programmed to refill your health as it is now then that could lead to one of two problems.

1.) Some thief or mesmer just stealths up and runs to the other side of the map and keeps you from getting your health refilled while his teammates respawn.

Or worse…

2.) It bugs out sometimes and people on the opposing team get their health bars refilled just because they got a stomp in the middle of a team fight.

I got “spam more noob” for heartseek spamming a guy to death as he tried to run and dodge after my initial backstab dropped him below 50% health (and a couple more while he was downed because of skill queuing after being a little overzealous with the button pressing) while he was laying there waiting to respawn.

Venomshare is great for sharing cc as you can chain petrify, immob and chill.

I use them for this in PvP except without the chill since chill got nerfed to 5 stacks which makes it lose some appeal in a team fight. Not when there are skills out there that give far longer durations of chill. 1 second of immobilize isn’t particularly OP in and of itself however when being added to your teammates attacks that don’t generally come with CC on their own it can be a nice boost to support in those fights.

How could I lose to them? I removed my auto attack so I could use stealth on steal. I run basilisk poison and my posion which imobs.

So he hits me, I open with steal (turns them to stone) and sneak attack. Then shadow strike away into my heal skill. His next moves tell me what build he is running. If he black powder/heartseekers, he is always stays invisible till he comes back at full health. Then does a huge burst again. By this time I have my imob poison on, so I get that off, blinding powder, dodge roll into a shadow refuge.

From shadow refuge I move along my merry way and don’t continue the fight just so I can die. See. Easy as pie to live.

So according to this it seems the OPs real issue is that D/P builds are hard for his P/D build to kill and he doesn’t like them using stealth to disengage but his answer to fighting them and not getting killed is to stealth and disengage.

Clearly a QQ thread from a player with L2P issues.

Face it, it’s not getting the 10% buff promised. That or it is was some lame kitten like if you take healing power it will give 10% more but who the kitten actually takes that as a thief? I know enough C++ to know this is a fix that would take under a minute to fix so if after this long it hasn’t been fixed it’s not getting fixed. Would be nice if they could at least say they aren’t going to fix it instead of hiding from it.

I used p/p/ before, I use p/p now. I don’t miss ricochet. Move on, losing the range sucks, but there are ways around this.

Ankle shots gives you the 1050 range. It just doesn’t say it on the tooltip for the trait but look at the pistol skills when you have that trait.

No I’d rather not have an easy button for critical hits because someone didn’t want to put Perception into their build.

I guess we should remove executioner, panic strike, and revealed training because people didn’t bring damage, devourer venom, or power to their builds then too.

Panic Strike compared to Devourer Venom can be compared to any trait that procs at a set condition. Same with Executioner being compared to any damage increasing trait.

If you’re going to ignore the skills that already exist in game that I listed, I guess I really don’t have anything else for you.

Those two that give +50% critical chance under specific conditions vs. Hidden Killer that gives 100% critical chance under certain conditions and you think Hidden Killer is the one that got jipped? Seems to me like Hidden Killer is the better one considering it gets double the bonus and you want an an extra bonus added on to make it comparable when it is already better than those two? Seems more like a way to get extra Precision because someone didn’t put it in their build than making it fair.

….but +50% while revealed is under a specific condion. The difference is all attacks if the condition is met versus a single attack (i.e. all warrior attacks while stunned/knocked down, all shroud attacks)

Edit: I think I should explain my thinking a little more. Adding this bonus for 3 (4) seconds would move this trait away from being a dagger mainhand only trait to a trait that could benefit sword and shortbow combos as well.

Right, I just personally think guaranteed critical on a backstab is powerful enough. And face it, almost anyone taking Hidden Killer in their build is doing it to make up for a lack of Precision in their build to still get a good backstab. And yes, it is a dagger main-hand trait pretty much. Just like Ankle Shots is a pistol main-hand only ability because why would anyone take it for pistol off-hand?

I do think the +50% critical chance while revealed however would make for an excellent Revealed Training instead of +200 power and then swap it with Potent Poisons into the GM slot. That would make a very powerful ability that would compete with the other two DA GM traits. Plus Potent Poisons is really pretty weak for a GM trait with the 10% damage increase and 33% duration increase on only one condition making it better for a Master trait than GM one.

Valk Ammie? Really? That’s one of the amulets I look at and just think “Why? Why is this even a thing?” I guess maybe before with traits tied to stats you could use some sigils and runes to make up for the loss of critical chance but ferocity without perception is like a screen door on a submarine. If you want some sort of bruiser build got with Marauders and Wurm runes to give more vitality and ferocity to what Marauders already offers.

I played thief and still play thief. According the forums my class was nerfed and I can still do pretty well. About the only times I die often or quick is if I am just not paying as much attention as I should or the other team is just far better than me.

1) Get rid of merciful ambush or make it a major trait — it is a purely PvE trait for deaggro (almost useless in PvP as it’s way too short to confuse or disorient the enemy and any player with a brain will just sit and auto attack the air where the invisible players are)

Ankle Shots includes the range increase it just doesn’t show it on the tool tip but if you take it it shows the range increase on the pistol abilities tooltips.

Yeah, I had to go back to taking SR as well. I was running Needle Trap and Shadow Trap to stack on each other for all the Vulnerability and Might but it really was just not powerful enough to waste two utilities and a trait on.

I haven’t seen you running P/P but I have seen your twitch feed a few times. Some of my guildies and I were in your last two matches on their last night. I was the one who got “blown up” in stealth when I came in trying to res with SR at that mid fight. XD!

Nah, I’m joking about doing it to kill you faster. Though I did experiment around trying to create a viable hybrid build up until this last week since the patch. Mostly it focused around traps because I liked Shadow Trap and the new trap traits made it seem like it might be fun. After weeks realization set in that hybrid for a thief is not going to work with a D/P set and I just didn’t have the same enjoyment with D/D. And quite frankly with classes with burning we just can’t compete on the hybrid damage.

So I went back to a D/P power build and after trying for weeks to actually work at making a hybrid build succeed I came back to find that thief isn’t so bad in that area. The power area that is. Sure we have other classes that can burst hard too but thief isn’t dead in the water either. We just have to adapt to the changes. Also after running various iterations of a “scrub” build for weeks I found running something closer to the D/P meta make thief so much easier. I don’t feel like my class is totally nerfed now.

So if you’re feeling like thief is dead, try running a kittenty build for a few days and then go back to a good one and actually try to win on the kitten build. The things you’ll get from it will make playing a good build seem so much easier to win fights.

Honestly things like long range sniping will just get stealth nerfed into the ground. Nobody that plays against thieves in any form of pvp wants 1200 range “backstab”.

Also 2, 3 and 4 seem more suited to Engineer than a thief because of the gadgety nature of them. 2 itself is just a Light field version of Smoke Field with a detonation.

It would be nice if you could use supplies to repair doors by a small amount. This would really help with the defense aspect when enemy players drop supplies. Or if you could use them to spawn more guards at the gates.

No, some of the playerbase said no and others like it. they included the option to not queue for it so you don’t have to play it. Personally I like to have something different than the same conquest maps that everyone complains about if it isn’t basically Foefire or Forest remade with a new map.

I would only make it recharge one skill, but one on your skill bar thats on CD. Would be nicer imo.
Like this it can be a game changer or (at least this effect of the trait) totally useless.

Kinda like this idea, but it would make it broken. Keep in mind that this would be a free recharge every 20secs, easily abusable for long CD utilities by waiting out the low CD utilities in stealth…

Or having no other skill on CD and then Heal > Steal > Heal.

I think Improvisation is just fine as it is. Using a stolen item twice is pretty good and if you don’t like the item then at least you have it in the F2 slot. Also having a 20% chance to recharge your heal is nothing really to scoff at.

The skill is fine as it is. That it a bit of RNG is ok with me as making it always recharge something on CD is a bit too easy. No thought involved.

As example let us say I use spider venom. I charge up my weapon with venom. I steal . I know I will get an instant recharge of venom. I now got 12 venoms in a row. Way too powerful.

Same with RFI or Shadowstep. With Improv changed to what is suggested I will always know i can instantly have two of these in a row to use. All I have to do is make sure no two skills on CD .

Or auto double heal.

I don’t think necro is OP but they’re definitely not UP anymore either. The tanky ones might not be able to kill fast but they certainly can hold on to a point really well. The ones that can do a lot of damage might be glass but they hurt like hell. I wish I had a screenshot of it but I have had one criting me for 4k with Life Blast. As someone else said, if you don’t like the lack of mobility and stability then by all means play another class but don’t expect the devs to change the class just because you have a love affair with being a gothy necromancer but want it to play like an elementalist.
