Mechanist Gregory [BEER]
Arondight Unfading [ZB]
Highest number is green, middle is blue, lowest is red.
Well… that explains it, then. I’m on Eredon Terrace, and from what I understand, we’re almost always at the bottom of the bracket for WvW. :/
Corporal Jantzen is voiced by the very talented Gregg Berger http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0074185/?ref_=fn_al_nm_1
I.E., “That Guy That Voices 75% Of The Generic NPCs In GW2”. :-P
Also, Jecht from Final Fantasy X.
…and about a billion other fairly well-known characaters over the last two decades. Sheesh, I forgot how much he’s done.

“- Down warrior skill “Vengeance” : Often you still die even if you get a kill”
This is awful. My warrior is only level 8, and I’ve already seen this far too many times…
Well, in the same regard, there’s nothing to differentiate the Balthazar reward track from the other reward tracks, and it’s kind of the same deal. Can only be completed once, and the final reward is something you can only get in PvP.
We really want to hear what you think once the system/content is functioning as designed.
I’ve seen a remark in this direction multiple times now and I have to ask: Has it be announced how the system/content should be functioning? If so, where? If not, why not?
The last I’ve seen posted directly about this issue was last week, and the dev comment was, “We had some internal communication problems, so we’re still trying to figure out what exactly is a bug with the NPE and what was intended design.”
I’d say by now they have a good idea about that, but it hasn’t been publicly mentioned yet.
Acinonyx came up with a fantastic idea: Just apply the changes to the first character created.
Aincronyx didn’t “come up” with the idea, it’s been splattered everywhere since the 9/9 patch. It’s the most common suggestion I’ve seen to make everything “better”. It’s not like it’s some amazing idea, either, it’s perfectly common sense…
Sorry if I didn’t give credits to anyone for this idea, I didn’t read all the post, cause it’s painfull and it’s not my job (sorry Anet guys sometimes I think you should get some kind of medal for your work), but I’m pretty sure many people have invented the wheel before me.
Edit: to make this post usefull, @Chris, Is the system/content functionning as designed right now, or should we wait for an update ?
Oh, no, nothing against you personally. I just wanted to make a point of saying that this is a REALLY common suggestion after the patch, so it’s not like the devs are only hearing it here for the first time.
Sorry if I sounded a bit harsh. I’m really, really not feeling well this week, and it’s been affecting my tone a good bit the last few days.

Did they really?? Ugh, that’s so gross. It’s like using Elfs/Dwarfs as the plural instead of Elves/Dwarves. Just… just no.
Actually, dwarfs is the standard plural for dwarf. You can thank J.R.R. Tolkien for “dwarves”.
That doesn’t mean dwarfs is any less gross sounding, which was the point of that particular post I made. “Correct” or not, dwarves just sounds better to a lot of people.
The plural of “focus”, in English, should be “focuses”.
No, it shouldn’t. There are TONS of exceptions to every single “rule” in English. Even native changes, not ones imported from other languages. There’s a reason many people consider English to be one of the hardest secondary languages to learn. There just too many examples of, “use this as a rule, except in this situation, or in this situation…”
Just about every other language on the planet has very set rules as to what is “correct” when constructing tenses of words, and none of them have exceptions the way English does (to such an insane extent, I mean).
In no way is the word “focuses” proper English.
- Addressing an issue with bundles that prematurely unlocked utility and elite skills
Personally, I’m glad this bug was found. I don’t want this fixed, at least not without alleviating some of the level-gating on veteran players. Having to wait until SO FAR into my character’s career to have access to a full ability rotation just feels awful.
Having to wait until level 40 just to start getting used to my rotation that I’m going to be using for literally the entire rest of my GW2 career is… painful. I think vets should be able to unlock these abilities by MAYBE 25. That way, we can get used to using all of our abilities, and feel like a “complete” character, that much sooner.
Aren’t you ALWAYS red in WvW? I was under the impression that it changed your UI to reflect that, no matter which server you were on. So, your server is always first on the list, under Red. Then your first opponent is in the Green, and your second opponent is in the Blue.
Is this incorrect? Because I can’t remember a single instance of being in WvW where I wasn’t red.
Nope. Desolation is blue atm. Which is where i am stationed. Colour changes randomly when the rounds do. You might just be having a red period.
It’s every single time I’ve been in WvW over the last six months, and I play sporadically. So… hell of a timing thing, then.
- Even after the two years now Anet still can’t seem to balance the different Professions. I don’t like playing half of my characters any more, they just don’t feel the same.
Heh. How long has WoW been out now? Aren’t they still balancing professions? I think the same could be said for every single MMO ever released, ever.
That’s the thing a LOT of people don’t seem to realize. Every single change to the game, no matter how insignificant, from a new piece of gear with different stats, to a slight chance at when you can learn abilities, actually drastically changes the class balance. Small changes add up to big differences, and considering MMO’s are all about adding new content, it also means there will ALWAYS be class balancing changes.
If you don’t like it, well… stick to single-player games, I guess. :p
I would have preferred the Panther heart, that one is annoying.
You mean the Snow Leopard one? But it’s so fun to pounce on things.
I also like that I have the option to skip 1-40 entirely with level up tomes and level 20 scrolls.
That’s only really an option for people that just happen to have a ton of level up scrolls sitting around. You’re in the VAST minority there, so please don’t use that as a discussion point. :/
OP still hasn’t learned about WvW Borderland.
I have, but I’m sorry if I don’t want to port to Borderlands every single time I want to go to my guild bank, especially if I’m already IN Lion’s Arch for other reasons.
I think you still haven’t learned about the concept of “it’s inconvenient to warp to Borderlands when you’re already in a city that has access to a guild bank it’s just a long walk away from a waypoint”.
Only if anyone not tagged up gets a debuff that sets their max hp to 1.
Are you suggesting that “tagging up” when not needed is anything other than obnoxiously annoying to every other serious player in the zone? That would make you part of the actual problem….
“When not needed” is up for debate. I tag up every time I see an event in a map zone and am participating in it. Some people would find that unnecessary, but I do it to draw attention to currently-running events.
I like how in the OP, the dev response says it should be “Universally” themed. And by that, they mean “Western Euorpean” themed…

…..
And what do you base your stastitics on? Or is it just a gut feeling?
Because we’ve actually seen some stastistics on how 1500+ people feel about the new changes. And it was overwhelmingly negative……That’s just not true. A bit more than 40% said they HATE it. While almost a 30% said a few tweaks would make them good. That is NOT overwhelmingly negative….that’s not even half negative (despite how you want to portray it).
Also, There is no real indication where those players polled came from, but if it’s from these forums, I wouldn’t think it’s at all representative of the overall player base.
41% hate it
12% dislike it
———
53% is more than half.29% think that it is currently not OK (not OK is negative)
53% + 29% = 82%.
82% is a pretty solid majority. I would be surprised if any professional poll taker/calculator considered 82% to not be an overwhelming majority.
Now do those numbers mean all that much ? I think they are worth considering, but not to the degree that the face value of the numbers would seem to indicate.
Hmmm, I don’t know this poll existed, because if I know, I can definitely flip the result to the other side if you know what I am implying.
Straw polls are straw polls for a reason. I hate people that base arguments around polls they actually made on sites like strawpoll.me.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Straw_poll
The straw poll is only as telling as the people that actually participate. For starters, you’re NEVER going to get visibility high enough to actually have a fair majority of people participate in it. A couple of days ago, someone posted an entire argument based around only 1500 responses to a poll. Do you realize how small that is for GW2’s current player base? Less than one percent of one percent of estimated copies sold worldwide. You’re not getting a fair view of the thoughts and opinions of all players to the game — only an INCREDIBLY small subset of people that actually saw and participated in the poll.

I like the Dodge tutorial. I think it does a good job of explaining/showing people how Dodge is meant to work in game.
But other starter zone stuff, like the removal of bundles? That makes me sad. Poor unfed cows.
…. um, why? This seems completely pointless, and just like empty complaining on your part.
so what makes it faster to level early on? did they reduced the exp?
I’m confused, beside making renown heart easier.
Seems like everything is giving more experience. I’ve made a bunch of alts, and this is by far the fastest I’ve ever leveled, without even trying. I’m getting a level about every ten to twelve minutes.
This is not congruent with my own experience. I started playing a level 4 elementalist the day NPE launched, and have played this elementalist almost exclusively ever since. She hit 32 last night. Leveling doesn’t seem faster to me – in fact, at times it’s felt rather ‘draggy’ – and I’ve been playing more than usual.
I’ve been doing whatever events I encounter as I complete maps, along with PS as it becomes available. Are you doing dungeons/fractals and/or pvp/wvw?
You should read the patch notes. Leveling for levels 1 – 15 was sped up. After that, it gets lowered back down to normal leveling speeds. Also, due to a bug with levels 20 – 30 (that was just patched last night), that was actually slowed down rather significantly. So… yeah.
I like the leveling changes. I don’t like being gated out of abilities, however.
I think grouping quests every 10 levels is a good idea, and it keeps story chapters together, as well as giving a reasonable gap between each chapter. I like the new levelup rewards. I like the shiny popup that tells me I did good and got a new level. :p
I dislike having to wait until level 10 to get all five of my kittening weapon abilities, however… BUT, hopefully, this is just a bug with veteran accounts and will be fixed shortly.
Isn’t there just one guild banker in all the other cities too?
Maybe. I just know, the ones I remember are right beside a regular banker, and also right beside a waypoint.
Divinity’s Reach at District Promenade, Black Citadel at Canton Factorum, Hoelbrak at Southern Watch post…
Yeah well, I prefer Staves to be the plural for a Staff, but they went with Staffs instead.
Did they really?? Ugh, that’s so gross. It’s like using Elfs/Dwarfs as the plural instead of Elves/Dwarves. Just… just no.
If she never displayed the icon maybe it was a bug that was letting you use her as a guild banker.
Possible. But even so, that doesn’t detract from the fact that there is only one guild bank NPC in Lion’s Arch, and it’s not really close to a waypoint at all. So, inconvenient to access your Guild Bank. I don’t know why they don’t have one near the regular Bank NPCs, like in just about every other major city.
… there was? FML. The only one I could see was at Fort Mariner anyway Yeah, I just did everything from DR instead, unless it involved forging.
Yeah, I just looked it up. Cyri (http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Cyri) in the Trader’s Forum used to allow you to access the Guild Vault before the 9/9 patch. I used her all the time, since I could just run from the bank in Western Ward, over the bridge, and right to her. Well, at least after they destroyed the Waypoint in Fort Mariner anyway.
She never displayed the Guild Bank icon, though, so I think most people didn’t know she would allow you access.
Sooo… any news yet from that “I’ll get back to you on that on Monday”?
Yeah, he felt sick and didn’t go in and posted in the two active threads he’s on.
What are you guys talking about? Nobody in this thread said they would get back by Monday. The only ANet response in this entire thread is about how progress while doing the Greatest Fear plotline wouldn’t be lost, after patch, it would just be shifted.
Which… seems to actually NOT be the case, but that’s beside the point. Nobody in this thread said they’d “Look into it and get back to [us] Monday”.
Not on this thread but on the “Communicating with you” thread. Chris mentioned that Leah would also look into this and would get back to us with updates regarding this issue. A shame that I haven’t heard a word yet because Chris was feeling unwell at the time though I do hope that he and Leah will diligently look into this and eventually prioritize this issue to be fixed ASAP.
Oh, it was in a different thread. Weird, but thanks for catching me up on it.
No it’s Glitched..and they haven’t fixed it..been trying to get an answer for when it will be fix..but the trolls in this forum keep telling me to “play without minions”..they are just trolling..and anet hasn’t said anything about fixing it.
Giving someone sound advice is now considered trolling.
“My car doesn’t run, don’t tell me to ride my bike cause I have THIS car! I want to get to work but I refuse to ride this bike! I have this car!”
Yeah……….
It would be more accurate to say, “My car stalls out”, not that it “won’t run”. That’s closer to what’s going on with the Necro pets. They work for a while, but then they “stop working”. So… yeah. Don’t tell him to ride a bike just because his car stalls! He just needs to go to a mechanic (ANet) to get his car fixed!!
After last week’s patch, I’ve noticed a LOT of the Guild Bank NPCs have been removed, especially in Lion’s Arch. There was actually one of the NPCs in the Mystic Plaza that you could talk to to gain access to your bank vault, but since then that option has been removed from her chat window. Now, she only lets you edit your guild emblem and expand your roster.
This particularly urks me because the ONLY Guild Bank NPC in Lion’s Arch now is the one at Fort Marriner near all of the crafting areas. You know, by that waypoint that was removed from the game.
This makes it extremely inconvenient to gain access to your Guild Vault, not being able to teleport straight to it. Does anyone else have something to contribute to this?
Glad I bought that while I could, then.
Wow i didn’t know the game has degenerated so much that people now turn to keyfarming as a form of entertainment lol!
“I farmed a key, i farmed a key again! Hey!! I farmed yet another key!!!”
Wadever man, Chinese Farmers uber alles!!
Is it physically possible for you to NOT be an obnoxious close-minded fool who thinks they have a right to say what others consider a form of entertainment is “wrong”?
Sooo… any news yet from that “I’ll get back to you on that on Monday”?

I love the OP using strawpoll to actually conduct a straw poll. Lulz.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Straw_poll
Personally, I like the new leveling system. Of course, I still disagree with the unlocks… but we’ll see if that changes after ANet “fixes” veteran accounts.
(edited by ShadowDragoonFTW.3418)
Too add on to the issue with Personal Story quests being rearranged, I submit the issue of Laranthir Of The Wild. Here is a small album of two screenshots from the cutscene that takes place when I meet Laranthir and one of the spirit shamans from Hoelbrek during the quest “Against The Corruption”.
The catch? I just spent the last four missions with Laranthir. He already knows who I am. A mutual friend died in front of both of our eyes on the mission I literally JUST finished mere SECONDS before starting this quest.
Come on ANet. More thought should have REALLY been put into this if this was the route you wanted to go…
EDIT: I just remembered, I had a picture from the previous quest I mentioned, where Laranthir and I went up against Risen Prince Nekandezzar in the quest “Blast from the Past”. I added that to the end of the album.
I know a lot of changes were made in the recent patch to make things less confusing for new players. But really, if you’re going from one mission where you’re already expected to know someone, to a couple missions down the line where you meet them for the first time… that’s more than confusing. It’s ridiculous.
(edited by ShadowDragoonFTW.3418)
It’s a way to freely obtain large quantities of cash shop items for minimal effort. Some guildies have told me they farmed 20 keys a day for a while.
That’s a net loss of massive profit for ANet when you consider key gem costs, and the sheer number of people that “key farm”
Assuming they would else buy the keys what is not very likely.
With other words. No there is no profit lost.
Besides Anet oficially stated themself it was oke so what are we really talking about.
“That’s assuming they would have bought they keys if they weren’t able to farm them.
In other words, there’s no loss of profit if they weren’t going to spend the money either way."
Sorry, that was confusing to read, so I figured a translation of sorts would be helpful. And I agree with the sentiment.
While key farming is not an exploit, do you REALLY wanna play the game like that?
I know some people say playing games are already a waste of time, but dude, don’t waste it like that.Don’t “Chinese Farmerize” yourself.
And don’t put words in other peoples’ mouths, and assume all people are going to feel the same way you do.
A lot of people keyfarm because it’s a way to just turn off your brain and relax. I do it when I’ve had a stressful day and just want to do something that I don’t have to put a lot of thought into. I’ll put on a video on my second monitor, and just run some keyfarms for a bit.
Just because you don’t enjoy it, it doesn’t mean other people don’t. And also, don’t assume people are doing it just for the “profit” either.
(edited by ShadowDragoonFTW.3418)
Simple, they just don’t feel it’s the right time to do it yet. They will bring it back at some point, just be patient about it, alright? :/
You… didn’t see the interview where they pretty much said SAB won’t be coming back, did you?
I never got the chance to do SAB, and I was always really upset about that. I had the game when SAB first launched, but I never had time to play it, so I didn’t even get to do a single stage. :/
Ever since I came back to the game from hiatus, I’ve been hoping SAB would come back so I could see what I missed out on. But… now it looks like I’ll never get a chance to.
I don’t know why they can’t just implement the first two SAB’s and keep them live. Not like it would hurt anyone…
Players: “And anyway, that’s why we feel the current trait system does not work and negatively impacts the game”
Anet: “So what you’re saying is that the early to midgame leveling experience is dull. . .”
Players: “Well yes, that’s one—”
Anet: “—And you want us to redistribute some things to fill in that content. . . 8D”
Players: “Anet, no. Stop”
Anet: “It’s too late”
Players: “No!”
Anet: “It’s already happening”
Fixing what isn’t broken by dramatically overcompensating and/or missing the mark of what is actually needed or wanted? Yeah this is pretty classic anet tbh.
“It’s already happening!” — lol
After Chris came out and mention the rampant bugs in this patch, I’m inclined to believe that they’re going to fix the “alt” experience. I’m willing to step back into the benefit of the doubt on this one.
However, this post still made me giggle.
I know that one of the major ways I use my guilds is when I’m looking for people to run content with.
It sounds a little hectic, but would there be some way to display chat from ALL guilds in a window at the same time? Maybe be able to select different colors for chat from Guild 1/Guild 2/Guild 3/Guild 4/Guild 5?
That way, if you have someone advertising a group for content in one guild, you won’t miss it just because you happen to be chatting in another guild at the time.
You know whats annoying? When someone reads a build on a forum and comes here and gets owned because they don’t know HOW to run the build. The changes to leveling imo will help people with that problem. Just because you go to a forum and pick a build doesn’t mean you know how to use it correctly or when would be best times to us skills.
How does expanding the time it takes to get all of your ability unlocks automatically mean you’re going to be better equipped to understand a level 80 build that you didn’t understand before?
You know why people have problems with builds they crib from other people? Because they don’t read the 7-10 abilities and learn how to use those completely. You know what isn’t going to help with that? Making the experience of unlocking those ability slots excruciatingly painful.
Unless they build a tutorial for every single skill that every single class can unlock, then more tutorials aren’t going to help you understand endgame build if you don’t already understand how to play your class that you spent 80 levels (hopefully) learning to play.
(edited by ShadowDragoonFTW.3418)
This much gating in the leveling process is awful. I like the old system because of how much freedom I had.
Makes me want to, if I ever make a new alt, level up simply by mapping cultural cities… Oh how fun.
You don’t get enough XP to hit 10 just by map completion of the major cities. :/
What’s worse, you can’t even die at low levels. You can bypass the content by just dancing.
You can only not die in the starter zones. As soon as you get out into the real world, you can die just fine, even before level 5. You just have to Waypoint right away, instead of getting your downed state.
Dear Chris Whiteside,
I am in complete agreement with what many people have suggested on this thread regarding the huge gaming changes made on September 9th: That the “new player experience”, level-gating, etc. should be left for players who have only just started the game for the first time, and leave it off or optional for those of us who have gotten farther in the game. I have two level 80s right now but enjoy making alts of different classes. Now I, quite frankly, fear creating a new character or playing the ones I have who are all under level 20. Sometimes I like to mix up my GW2 routine and work on alts and other classes, but now I don’t want to because I know of the heavy, stifling restrictions made on characters 1-20/30/40. I fear this patch will make you lose veteran players and not bring in as many new players as you wish. So I ask you, please take our complaints into consideration and find a compromise. The threads complaining about the changes are still alive and well into the second day of the patch. Surely this tells ANet something…
Hi,
I am planning on starting an alt again when i get some time. Why don’t we play together as I would like to experience it with you and hear your feedback.
Chris
count me in please, i might have some constructive suggestions. it involves ideas taken from Mega-Mans x´s intro stage.
You mean this stuff?
Chris thank you for actively replying in this thread to a variety of posts. The forums feel a lot like shouting at a closed door and knowing someone’s reading is important.
Thanks Eye,
Loads of us are reading the forums. i am just the one who is communicating when i should actually be paying attention to the meeting i am in (-:
Chris
I hope it’s the meeting about the resume I sent in :P
J/KYou are awesome! Thanks for keeping in touch…now pay attention!
He means to us. We need your attention. All of it. That delicious, decadent gaze you lead our way, the sexy-smooth words you belt out to help quell our negative feelings. Come, let us bask in your radiance while you whisper kittenurances to us that all will be better.
…erm… cough … I mean… >.> … Yeeeeah, nevermind.
EDIT: I got kitten’d. :|

You get what you expect.
I don’t think that’s actually a saying.
And no, you don’t always get what you expect. That’s where the term “pleasantly surprised” comes from.
Sweet!!
Looking forward to it.
But I would reccomend maybe as another CDI taking a second look at this new leveling system, and how it effects vets, and what can be done about it would go a very long way in taking care of your loyal players. Just a thought.
We are keenly looking at all the feedback and will continue to do so.
I am focusing on trying to get the CDI out today as I am already late )-:
Chris
Good, good. I’m sure a lot of us would love to hear what the thoughts were behind some of these changes. We hear that you’re listening now, and hopefully that will turn into some discussion back over the next couple of days.
Knowing that your listening is one thing. Knowing that you care enough to enter a discussion back is another. But still, just having someone confirm that you ARE AWARE of the issues is enough for now.
I really like the new TP UI. I think it looks really slick and is much better organized than how it was before.
I understand what they’re saying about the “power users” having to adapt, but for a semi-casual TP users (I mostly used it to cash out gear collected during daily runs), I think the whole thing looks and flows much nicer now.
I’m giving a thumbs-up for the UI improvements, even though I’m VERY upset about the level-up changes.
I seriously have no idea why ANet thought these changes would help. It blatantly goes against their Manefesto video that they released around launch.
ArenaNet, you guys are going against what this game originally stood for. Why?
In this state, I just can’t play the early leveling experience. I’ll stick around and play PvP, but I WILL NOT be buying gems (either with money or gold) until they fix the leveling experience.
And I’m also going to tell anyone who will listen to stay away from the game due to the god-awful levelling experience. Which is a shame, because not that long ago I was trying to recruit as many friends as I could into the game…
Funny, I’ve been getting a crash every single time I closed my game since two patches ago. Guess it won’t be fixed in this one, then.
