We got the fighter (Warrior) Paladin (Guardian), it seems we lack a barbarian .
Well, the Fighter in this game essentially is the Barbarian. I don’t know what you would expect a barbarian to differently, flavor-wise. Adrenaline sounds just like Berserker Rage to me.
(requiring one of each weapon type, regardless of color)
And how would that work?
Conditional switches. “IF” statements. “IF” zojjas_claymore or wupwups_claymore or… (etc through whole stack), “THEN” accounts for “Ascended Two-Handed Sword” part of achievement.
It’s not hard at all. :P
Quoting Brother Grimm “running proper builds”
They said we wouldn’t have to worry about cookie cutter builds. That’s all there ever is. It’s this build or you’re bad, get out. Really sick of this mentality and the fact that the game requires it.
I agree, scrap the whole build system! everyone the same! /sarcasm
Y is it so hard to comprehend that some builds are better than others for some things…
It’s not about cookie cutter but about knowing how to adapt.
It’s not really adapting if you’re using the same generic “Berserker All Big-Hit Abilities” build for every single fight in the game. :p
How about specialising into your traits? Like Elementalist for instance, specialising in the Arcane Trait line you become more potent in general attunement swapping with an additional -1s to all attument recharge and arcane skills/utilities.
Water Trait line you become more adept in water attunement and water skills/utilities – Perhaps your Water attunement has a -2s recharge too.
Isn’t that essentially what trait lines do already? (As a matter of flavor, I mean. I understand they don’t have these exact effects…)
Isn’t the current “Fullscreen Window” option the same as “borderless window”? I mean, maybe if you want to make it smaller than your full screen, but then I would want the borders myself…
EDIT: As far as the click-to-move suggestion, I don’t know if you’re aware of this (I’m sure most people aren’t), but holding right-click & left-click at the same time will make your character run forward in the direction the camera is facing. Not exactly a click-to option, but still a way to move using only the mouse.
@Cassandra: The trading post thing was rattling around in my head the whole time I was writing my post. I agree completely, but I can’t see the Legendaries suddenly becoming Account Bound for no reason.
I mean, I thought they always should have been from the start. This is the only MMO I can think of where the “ultimate tier” weapons are buyable/tradable…
Personally, I think that Legendaries should require you to participate in pretty much every sort of content in the game. Having a Legendary should be a status symbol, and I think it’s a great gating mechanism to show you’re dedicated enough to the game that you’d go through so much for a Legendary.
Because, let’s be honest here, most people going for a legendary know they aren’t doing it for the stats. It’s because it looks pretty. And if they wanna do that for a pretty chunk of pixels, more to them.
A bit of a misinterpretation there, I do not care if they crash, so I can easily shout out to people to stop buying gems. Work on your ‘lawyering’ skills.
All in all it was about 60k gems shared between two of us, I think. Maybe more. I projected the fun to last somewhat longer and not get smothered by the frustration of the megaserver and the NPE combined.
That sucks buddy. I do sympathize with you on feeling like you are putting money into the game to get a better tomorrow and feel every update skips on what you actually want. Keep in mind that anet has a wide player base all wishing for different things.
I hope they add your type of content into the game soon.
I have the problem with this kind of mentality, actually. “I like the game, but it could be better. I’m gonna shovel a ton of money into the game to support it, so they’re able to make better content!!”
Never, never pay money for a game because of how you want/expect it to turn out. Pay money for what the game is right now. If you liked the game enough to spend some money on it, great. But don’t shell out thousands of dollars just waiting for it to get better. Chances are good that it will never turn out how you wanted.
The method I use? I’ll pre-order a game if I have a feeling I’m really gonna like it and want to support the company (did it with Rift, GW2, ToR, and a few others). I’ll play the game for a while, and if I had a lot of fun, I’ll pitch in and buy some currency. Every time a patch launches with changes I really like, I’ll toss in a bit more money, usually the lowest tier of purchasable currency.
It’s cheaper than paying a monthly subscription MMO, the company is still getting money for their efforts, and I’m getting some goodies out of it. Plus, I’m not bankrupting myself on “what might have been”, so there’s nothing for me to get disappointed about down the line.
Actually, Anet is using the gem money to build a secret volcano base.
I heard this too. Can a third confirm and comment on the features of the facility?
Absolutely. They have sharks with laser beams!
Didn’t you hear? The sharks were too expensive. They decided to go with piranhas instead.
just a generic lvl 20 with locked skills and a link placed in both servers, that would use gws 1 rules when in that server and when in gws 2 it would stay like it is.. use a npc or a portal..or any object they choose.. make it like the fractals or like the charr battle plan decoder in gws 1..where it send you to the location they want you to be in…
Again, that isn’t possible. I understand you’re probably a kid and don’t get how much work is put into games like this on the back end, but the games are just too different for anything like this to ever work. Plus, the security vulnerabilities to be had if you allowed one system to just do a blind hand-off to the other game… shudder It’s not a pretty thought.
Quoting Brother Grimm “running proper builds”
They said we wouldn’t have to worry about cookie cutter builds. That’s all there ever is. It’s this build or you’re bad, get out. Really sick of this mentality and the fact that the game requires it.
The game requires it? Or some random guy requires it in his LFG dungeon speedrun listing?
I don’t understand why game companies take so much time and energy to fight the whole “cookie cutter build” mentality. It’s going to exist whether you want it to or not. Even if it’s the most insignificant advantage (the difference in less than 5% of damage), there will STILL always be a superior build.
There are only two real ways to handle the situation. Embrace it and acknowledge that there will always be a “superior build”, or water down every class and ability to the point where there is effectively no difference between anyone, ergo nothing to optimize for an “optimal” build.
I’ll agree with them needing to fix dungeon scaling. I remember getting my first character to the level where I could run Ascalonian Catacombs for the first time.
I got obliterated. The party barely made it past the first room, and we even had a couple people at higher levels than the rest of us. Then again, this was way back, right after launch. I haven’t done any dungeons on low-level characters since, so I don’t know how the scaling is right now in comparison.
What about Avatars, then? :P
Avatars are often the physical embodiment of a holy presence. In many, many religions around the world, Avatars are either the form a god takes when on the mortal realm, or a being embodied with much of the power of said deity.
I’m sure there’s a good option out there, but you just keep picking the worst ones man. :P
(I’m assuming you’re getting it from Avatar: The Last Airbender, wherein the “Avatar” is the being embodied with the power of the world. It’s an odd stretch to the terminology, I’ll admit…)
So your argument is that… by removing time gating for crafting… you’ll be able to craft everything you want more easily… which means your crafting ingredients will be used quicker and not take up as much space… so you won’t have to buy more storage space or another account just for your crafting materials?
That is quite the leap of logic there.
You know, Shadow, when after about 20 years of gaming and 6 of working in the gaming industry you finally find such a pearl of MMORPGs that it replaces Ultima Online for you and see it being ripped apart by some nonsensical corporate decisions, you’re bound to get vexed.
So, with your 6 years of experience in the field, how would you feel if someone said this about one of your projects? That they wished it would crash and burn along with the rest of your company, you included?
warlords of draenor. .
i see what you did there
More like all those Norzdormu quests where they sent you to dungeons in the past and shapeshifted everyone into a “correct” form for the mission.
EDIT: To OP, there’s no way to actually “link” the servers (and games) together. The systems that each game uses are just too far apart. GW2 is based off a modified version of GW1, true, but they’re just far too dissimilar at this point.
Well, I’ve realized they received more than enough of my money. If the changes keep going this way, the thing may as well burn and crash, together with the company, I so do not care.
Again, though you might not personally care for the changes, I feel some of the things you’re saying are a bit on the extreme side of the spectrum.
To be absolutely fair here, every change that is made to the game (whether you approve of it or not) needs to be done by the developers. Every single little thing makes time and effort, and that takes money.
So, when you’re buying gems, you’re not putting money into some soulless computer. You’re putting money in the pockets of all the developers and technicians it takes to keep the servers running, keep fixing bugs, keep filing support tickets, keep making all the changes to the coding…
Sensationalism is one thing, but keep in mind that every cent you complain about spending is going to put food into peoples’ stomachs and a roof over their head. Even if no changes were made, you’d still be paying the people who just keep the day-to-day running. So, watch what you say when you complain like this, because the implications are often deeper than you realize.
3. Elementalist = Thaumaturge
Just throwing this in here, but Thaumaturge doesn’t actually fit here at all. A Thaumaturge is someone who has control over both spiritual (holy) magic and arcane (dark/worldly) magic.
Elementalists have a flavor of arcane, but they really don’t represent the holy magic in any way, and that’s a pretty important part of a thaumaturge, that crossing of the lines between two disciplines.
EDIT: And, even in real world terminology, it appears that the Thaumaturge still has that intrinsic link to the divine:
(edited by ShadowDragoonFTW.3418)
I honestly don’t know if this has been a topic on its own before, but I’ve seen the sentiment around enough that I figured more people might be interested in talking about it.
So, I’m sure we’re all fairly familiar with the “titles” we’re granted over the course of the Personal Story. It starts off fairly innocuously, with titles like the “Hero of Shaemoor”, or the “Slayer of Issormir”. Over time, as your reputation builds, you are granted new titles. When you join your Pact order and prove yourself worthy, you gain the title of “Lightbringer” (Order of Whispers), “Crusader” (The Vigil), or “Explorer” (Durmond Priory).
Over time, your titles grow even greater. You become known as the “Commander of the Pact”, the “Slayer of Zhaitan”, the “Dragon Slayer”, and much more.
Yet, for all we’re referred to by these titles, as much as we link them to our character and see them as part of our character’s persona, there’s no way to actually display these merits in-game.
Personally, I’ve always wondered why these were never implemented into the Title system. We’ve had it since launch, and it’s pretty apparent these “names” were supposed to be important to our characters, yet nothing ever comes out of them.
I’d personally like to think that my Charr Guardian was proud of his work with the Vigil, so even after becoming Commander of the Pact, he’d still personally represent himself as a Crusader. That’s a title that means something to him, something that represents how he sees himself. Yet, there’s no way for us to show this off.
So, in light of that, can we get a dev response on this? Is this something that’s possible to do within the game? Has it ever been talked about? Is there a possibility, no matter how slim, of this happening?
Love to hear from the other players as well. What “false titles” are your favorites, which ones do you want to see implemented the most for your characters?
When you’re considering buying a second account over a name-change contract… What the heck is wrong with me. My main already has a good bit of ascended gear, plus all of those mats and some money. Why would I want to do that all over again?? Q_Q
Oh god not this again.
Why not just join in on the farm, it will be greatly more rewarding than the pathetic living story rewards you get. Trus’
Or maybe it’s not about the treasure and some people actually enjoy the living story? :o
Yaaay! Thanks Keenan, I missed my little buddy since the patch. He always sounded so gleeful when muttering “I will break you” as I let him chomp down on my old, unused gear.
You might want to look into the “Repair” function if you have an installation disk. It can restore corrupted/missing/deleted system files. So, at the very least, you can get back your correct version of CMD. And, if a virus destroyed that as you say, chances are it’s probably hurt other system files as well, you just might not have realized it yet.
While I think the general idea is interesting, your specific examples are far too jarring considering how serious the game takes itself.
For all the fantasy in it, there’s a lot of realism too. And having an Asura pull a table out of nowhere and hoist someone on top of it to electrocute them? Seems… very silly. Bad silly. :-/
And here I was going to update this with some stuff i found too, but you already beat me to everything I had. :p
That would be nice, if it was legible.
My poor eyes. q_q

That will zoom you in further and allow you to read the names
It’s more an issue with the contrasting colors.. but yeah, the font size doesn’t help either.
O_O You’re using XP?! But it’s past end-of-life!! And you have it on THE INTERWEBS!?!?!!?
EDIT: Also, hops five, six, and seven are particularly egrigious. I think that might be where most of your problems are coming from. Wonder what “embratel” is…
It also depends very heavily at what your monitor is set at for brightness, contrast, and hue variance. It’s one of those things where you just have to do it on your own computer to see. Blue to you might be purple to someone else, etc.
Social pressure.. If anything there needs to be more pressure as my groups are full of people who just dont give a Professor Yakkington about anyone including themselves.
Then start up a guild group with people that actually want to do it correctly. Believe it or not, as much as I hear people kittening about not having big enough groups for dungeon content, I’m sure it’s not going to be freakin’ hard to find a guild that’s looking for more dungeon runners. I see calls for it all the dang time.
@Palador: I think the major issue there is the “endgame mentality”. I’ve experienced it a lot in Warcraft. Basically, you have the group of “hardcore” players that insist on running the content and “doing it right”. When they get queued up with more casual players, the hardcore guys are the vocal voice of the group. Constantly saying things like, “You’re doing that wrong”, “that isn’t the correct build”, “we should be doing it this way, it’s faster”.
While not a problem in and of itself, that kind of mentality intimidates the more casual players, and also makes them think that all high-end parties will expect that kind of effort from them. So you get a ton of players that are alienated by the vocal minority, think “I don’t want to deal with these guys again”, and then just avoid the content. That, therefore, drives the population lower, until you’re left with nothing but the dedicated groups (guild dungeon runners), and the “hardcore” players.
Honestly, I think the best (and maybe only) way to make this kind of content more accessible is to just form up guild groups that want to run the content. That way, the players in your guild will likely be more understanding (and if not, they’re in your guild, you’ll see their name around, and know not to run dungeons with them again), and you won’t have to worry about that “hardcore” element complaining that something was done wrong.
It’s not exactly a blanket solution for players everywhere, but reinforcing the idea that you can have fun running dungeons casually with guild members? I think that’s a good mentality to stress. If you get a good guild, you don’t have to worry about the social pressure, which is usually the most crippling issue when doing group content.
I imagine they will be adding more collections over time.
I really hope so, though nothing has been said about this at all.
I even bought all of the Pirate karma weapons because I was sure they’d be in a collection, but not so far.
I dont think they need to say anything about it, when so many are missing.
Well, it would be nice to have a confirmation one way or the other. Either, “We’re planning to add more collection sets in the future”, or “We won’t be adding any more collection sets because we feel the ones already added offer the most ideal balance between difficulty and reward”.
To do a traceroute, open up the “Run” box on your computer (shortcut is WindowsKey + R), and type in “CMD”. A black box with white text will pop up. In that enter in “tracert XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX”, where the X’s are replaced with the IP address you got from the “/ip” command in your Guild Wars client.
Post the results here. There might be something that ANet can work with in it.
The old achievements should just be moved over to the historical achievements like they did with the Hint achievement.
I thought they were moved over? I could have swore I saw my partially completed ones in the Historical… maybe just my imagination though…
Except that Personal Story is full of choices that affect how it plays out. They’d have to disable these choices in order to preserve the progression. And what about rewards? Should players be rewarded every time? Should the reward be reduced on repeats?
I think it’d be pretty cool if they let you go back and choose different options to unlock the other missions. For example, I chose to escort Demmi out of Lion’s Arch, but I would like to go back and choose the other option (to use a distraction or something) without having to create a brand new character.
Quests that have already been played should not offer any rewards when replayed because the feature is simply for people who want to relive those experiences. For missions that the player has not completed, however, it would be nice if you’re still given something upon completion, but honestly I wouldn’t really mind even if there are no rewards to be gained whatsoever because for me the real reward is to experience the story (and see Tybalt again!).
Honestly, I would LOVE to see an achievement system implemented with PS content like what’s been added to LS2. You get to go back into the story you’ve already finished, do some oddly specific things, get a little reward for it.
I don’t think it should be anything major, of course, but I just like having small little incentive achievements like that. Makes it more fun for me.
EDIT: This way, they could also lock it off so that you don’t get the standard quest-complete rewards from replaying them, no matter whether you already did that line of the quest or not. (IIRC, when you get to “choose” which mission to do next, the rewards are always the same no matter which you pick.)
The two achievements should be coded as a completely separate item, even if the names are the same. Yes, you might not have access to the old achievements anymore, but you should be able to complete the new ones just fine. Which are functionally the same, you just have to bind your pets instead of banking them.
Are you on NA servers or EU servers? I’ve heard people talking about lag issues in EU since the patch.
I don’t even use the tier-specific bags. Frankly, I don’t see much of a point to them. I just keep an equipment box as my last bag, then when I swap weapons, any offhand items go straight to there. Of course, other gear will go straight there too, so it’s a little inconvenient, but… well, I’m not swapping weapons THAT often that it’s a bother.
YOU ARE ALL WRONG !!!
There is an Endgame !!!!!!
[snip]
That really isn’t useful to the discussion at hand. -__-
That would be nice, if it was legible.
My poor eyes. q_q
Well one thing to do is make sure to do all daily/monthlies (at least until you reach the cap).
But those barely award any points. 1 point per daily, so only 30 points in a month.
The easiest way to grind achievements, sadly, is to do the seasonal events, as they tend to award higher levels of achievement points. But, since there’s nothing seasonal going on right now…
You should also do the Living Story achievements. You can get over 100 AP just for one chapter’s worth of achievements.
Weapon Master achievements give decent points, so go out and grind with weapons youdon’t often use. Also, you can get a lot from crafting achievements, if you have the money.
OP, pretty much just pick a place to start. Achievements aren’t meant to be “easy” to rack up. It’s a conscious effort for a lot of it. You just have to find what you think would be easiest or most enjoyable for you to do, and start there.
Chris, this week really has NOT been kind to you. Hope everything settles down by the weekend.
For me, my favorite part of GW1 was vanquishing because I could revisit all of the areas I went through with a new purpose. In GW2, I feel like there is a massive world out there with absolutely no reason for me to go.
Well, ANet has been starting to work towards a goal similar to that. The achievement unlocks for the Living Story once you complete a level sounds pretty much exactly like this. You go through the storyline once to enjoy the storyline, then you have the option to go back through again and do something specific in order to get new rewards.
I don’t disagree with you. Perhaps they can add it but only allow it to swap out of combat.
Hell, I’d be fine with that. Would be one less step to having to open my inventory and find specifically which item in my sea of items I want to equip instead.
My whole point is that the existing content is stale, and the few additions that LS has blessed us with are a drop in the bucket compared to the content the even GW1 had released in the same time period.
My whole point is that people complain about “not having endgame content”, when the stuff we have is exactly the same as what other games use for endgame content.
The complaint of “We have no endgame content!” is functionally different from the complaint of “We’ve run out of endgame content!”

Open the set under “Colors” -> “By Color” → “Blue Dye”. It will show you all the colors, so you can compare them and see which you might be looking for.
So you want something similar to weapon slots in Guild Wars 1. That would be nice but that is also why we have weapon swapping. It is not there for balance reasons.
Still, I wouldn’t mind a third/fourth weapon set on my Guardian… Or a second on my Ele. -__-;
(I think it’s kind of obnoxious how some classes are gated behind having one weapon set, especially considering GW1 let everyone have four…)
I would subtly misalign all the character skeletons so everyone of every race is CONSTANTLY walking around with their feet sunk into the ground up to the ankles, possibly the mid-shin.
What? That’s how DC Universe Online has done things since launch, and it makes them look so Pro…
Funny thing, when I was trying to change the dyes on my Engie yesterday (while standing inside the Durmond Priory at the Skill Point), I noticed my feet were half-sunk into the floor and I couldn’t see what I was dying it. :-| Weird clipping glitch with the floor there, but a heck of a coincidence to notice with this going on…
good post and not much I feel I need to comment on. There is just 1 part which I think needs a bit of clarification. You said “to be Fair LS2 is an improvement but it’s still so apparent to me that it destroys the ability of the dev team to work on the rest of the game.” Thats not the case at all. The living story team consists of about 20 people out of 350
source: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/livingworld/lwd/Enough-of-your-GMPC-please/page/3#post4193277quote “Our team changes in size, but there are just a little over twenty people on it at any given time.”
There are still a lot of devs left to tackle other areas of the game.
Thats why some of us think there probably is an expansion in the works or if not an expansion other big content thats still being developed.
If 20 people can create all that living story content, how much more stuff should 320ish people create (well not exactly 320ish cause of course some of them are QA, Customer support etc.. that dont create content but still there is a sizeable number working on things in the background we have yet to see)
Apparently the other 300 struggle to do much of anything at all. There have been no new major features or content for almost a year. I suppose maybe dry top was assigned to those devs and not the LS team, but it seems pretty much exclusively for the LS so that seems unlikely.
I would love to know what all those devs are working on. I suspect they included NCSoft admin, janitors, coffee people, customer service reps and 100+ other people who don’t have anything at all to do with game development in that number. There is just no way a team that large could put out such little content.
Or they’re working on a project(s) they’re not ready to announce yet cause its not going to be finished this week
Lets say for the sake of argument they’re working on an expansion (not saying this is the case just an example) plenty of MMOs take 2 years to finish an expansion… rift, wow, Tera etc.. and thats without them releasing tons of content every single month. Because Anet dont announce stuff before they’re essentially ready to release it it would seem like most devs arent doing anything when in fact they were busy building an expansion. (or whatever they’re working on)
now even if most of the team is not a dev, with a 15% smaller team Anet built all of Gw2 in less then 5 years (some of those 5 years were used to design, build the engine and build the tools during which time not content could be developed for the game) and we still didnt see as much content so far. there has to be something going on in the background.
If they are working on an expansion then the game is in much better shape than everyone thinks. The problem is their no telling the community anything policy. If the LS ties into an expansion then I think many people will come back and give the game another try. I just hope they announce that before people uninstall and get dedicated to another MMO.
I would be really really surprised if the LS ever went anywhere close to any expansion.
If they release an expansion they have a big problem on their hands. not everyone is going to buy it. So what do they do, do they lock people out of their living story updates (those who have not bought the expansion)?
I bet if they do an expansion it will be something like Cantha or Elona or some far away land while the living story will continue on Tyria. That way everyone can continue getting updates.
One thing is certain. If Anet does come out with a paid expansion, no one who doesn’t like it can say the fans didn’t pressure them into making it. lol
That made my brain hurt to read. Too many double negatives…
If you’re complaining about this content, which is widely considered the end-game content for pretty much every other MMO out there, then what content do you expect to get when you’re asking for an endgame here?
Running Underworld 2920 times in 8 years .. that is fun endgame for the GW1 players i always have the feeling.
Repeating stuff is always boring .. as long as it is not Underworld.
This means nothing to me, because I don’t know what Underworld is, and I’m sure a lot of other users also don’t know. Be descriptive, man. :-|
