I don’t know where it comes from. You ahve infinite endgame in GW2 if you just set yourself goals. I guess you have no endgame left if you have all legendaries and all achievements, but that’ll take you a decade, so gl.

Yes, there are a lot of things that can be unlocked. The problem is that you have to grind the same content ad nauseam to do so. After the 100th time doing the same [dungeon | fractal | world boss] so you can get [enough gold | the skin you want | ascended mats ] to get another sliver of the way to your goal, it stops being fun.

You know what this sounds like to me? World of Warcraft. The game with “a definitive endgame”. I was a hardcore WoW player for four years (started just after Lich King launched, ended right before Pandaria launched). You know what their idea of “endgame” is?

Run the exact same dungeon five hundred times so you can use your special little tokens to buy your special little gear that’s only 1% stronger than the gear you already have. Do it again for the next piece. (Or even better, grind the same dungeon every day for two years because you’re just waiting for “that one drop”. No thanks…)

If you’re complaining about this content, which is widely considered the end-game content for pretty much every other MMO out there, then what content do you expect to get when you’re asking for an endgame here?

You’ll notice I said you’ll recoup most of your costs, not all of them. This is because you actually will make a significant part of that 1.7 gold back by selling items you gain in your playthrough on the AH. (This also counts the money you receive from finishing quests, the things you actually can sell from quest rewards, etc.)

Just because you’re pessimistic about it doesn’t mean it’s inaccurate.

So… don’t salvage stuff if you want to make your money back. Gotta sell it.

It originated on release date. It’s not like this train of thought is new. :p

People are always going to complain about “no endgame”, because (for starters) GW2 isn’t a traditional MMO in a lot of ways. Also, the discussion on what constitutes “endgame” itself is HIGHLY debatable. There are tons of “standard” MMO’s where the player base still complains about lack of endgame.

You’re always going to have people complaining like this, because you’re always going to have people that want something better or expect something else. Sadly, people just don’t know how to find a game that suits their tastes. They’d rather have a game they’re familiar with changed and shoehorned into a model they think is “correct” for what they want.

I don’t know if somebody already posted this but i think would be nice to have also textures when choosing equipment dyes. Something like “Rock Texture”, “Oak Texture”, “Leather Texture”, “Carbon Fiber Texture” or even “Chrome Texture” with a mirror effect…

See ya!

There is already leather texture if I recall correctly, but I would welcome more textures.
Also make the weapons dyeable.

Actually, each dye is grouped into one of three categories – “Leather” dyes, “Cloth” dyes, and “Metal” dyes, based on adjustments made to the color and what type of textures it’s expected to be applied to.

Honestly, it’s a weird concept, and I don’t really like it. :-/ Armor is broken up so that each section is one of those three types. So, having “Antique Gold” on a “cloth” section is going to look vastly different than having it on a “metal” section.

Frankly, I just want a way to pick whether each section will be metal/cloth/leather, because the changes in coloration can be drastic even on the same dye.

Black Lion Key Farming

ShadowDragoonFTW.3418

The recouping costs is based on the average skin’s selling price divided by the number of runs it would take to get enough scraps for a ticket.

That’s not what the recouping cost they’re talking about the keyruns on Reddit is from. Because if that’s the case, we wouldn’t be talking about “keyruns”, we’d be talking about “Chaos Greatsword Skin runs”. :-/

Not only is the price from skin to skin highly variable, but so is the price between sets. Some of the older BL skins sell cheaper than the current, some more expensive. You can’t base recouped prices on varying market prices as well as an RNG shot at to when you’re actually going to get your payout, because it will change depending on how many tickets you need for each skin.

And I’m not sure about the cost being recouped from this, unless you are selling what you make, selling whatever you loot, and picking up a bit of extra coin along the way.

What, you actually keep the stuff you get from a keyrun? Why? It’s only good for characters up till level 10. If I’m playing a character to actually level him, I’ll get the gear I need through playing the story anyway. No need for you to stash everything you loot, just because “one day” you might need it just for an alt. >.>

Why GW2 just isn't working

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: ShadowDragoonFTW.3418

ShadowDragoonFTW.3418

There are some things to learn, and apply from gw1, however, it usually gets caught in gw1 vs gw2 instead of talking about what is strong, or what would transfer over well to gw1, and how to transfer it over.

I’ll give my opinion as someone who has played both Guild Wars 1 and Guild Wars 2.

They are completely separate games. The feel, the goals, the systems… there is really nothing “similar” in the games, aside from the lore.

Talking about transitioning things from GW1 to GW2 just seems like a bad idea to me. GW2 has taken on a life of it’s own. It isn’t “the sequel to GW1”, instead it’s “that MMO that relies heavily on dodging and combat that actually makes realistic sense”.

If you really want a game that’s more like GW1, then start with a game that’s already close to it. Don’t take what people love about GW2 and twist it to fit what you think the “sequel” to GW1 should be like.

Maybe Guild Wars 3 will be closer to Guild Wars 1 than it is to 2. If so, then good for you. You’ll get the game you want. But me? I like GW2 how it is. I don’t want it to be fit into a mold just to be more like its “predecessor”. I like my game how it is, don’t ruin it for me in the name of nostalgia and/or legacy.

In Reddit, the defacto method of keyfarming since the patch has been to learn Cooking and level it up to 200, which gets you enough XP to get to level 10. It costs around 1.75 gold for the materials, and around ten minutes to do the cooking. The costs are mostly recouped from what you get by doing the keyrun.

There has even been a guide added to gw2crafts.net specifically for Cooking 1 – 200.

Guild Wars on PC and Consoles?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: ShadowDragoonFTW.3418

ShadowDragoonFTW.3418

The only thing consoles have going for them in terms of development is their uniformity. All <console model/brand> are the same. Identical hardware, software and no funny other bits of 3rd party software running on them at the same time.

You’re partially right. However, there are several instances (mostly recently, but even older ones as well) where we have re-issues of consoles that have their specs adjusted.

For instance, there have been four different models of the PS3 released over the years. Later revisions had minor boosts to specs. It’s not a major change, but it’s enough that it still would have to be coded around in many instances. A lot of games “cheat” at using resources in order to trick the hardware into doing what they need it to. If you adjust those timings even slightly with more ram or a faster processor, it can make some jarring changes.

Rarely game-breaking, but still…

Second of all, if they DO run into a problem, they should tell us. If they come to us and say “We’ve run into problem X”, then we can work out ideas on how to get the feel of what we wanted while working around problem X.

I’m sorry, but if you actually think that will stop any significant part of the backlash, then you’re being naive. As soon as people see “Feature is definitely being worked on!”, then they see, “Feature is being definitively delayed/cancelled because we physically cannot devote the resources to fixing it without putting either all of our content on hiatus for a year or bankrupting our company by paying for new staff!”, it will NOT go well. There will be people rioting, there will be MONTHS of people bashing the staff, there will be people screaming about quitting, about how they “demand a refund” because they “spent so much money in anticipation for the guild halls”.

It will be ridiculous, and ludicrous, and no amount of assurances on the part of the devs will quell any of that. I wouldn’t wish having to deal with that on ANYONE. It’s really better if they don’t tell us what’s being worked on, because there are doubtlessly things being scrapped all the time for one reason or another. That’s just how it works with things like MMO’s. Things start as great ideas before you realize that they can’t actually be done. Then, the fans get upset. And once it gets to that point, well… you’ve seen the forums since the 9/9 feature patch. Imagine that at a hundred times the scale.

People will expect something to come of it, if not then why would ANet have included this when THEY were the ones picking the topics for these CDIs?

You seem to be missing something here yourself. The CDI topics are picked due to what ANet sees as being a major talking point on the forums at any given time. One of the major reasons that a Guild Hall CDI was selected because of the overwhelming amount of times it was brought up as a part of the last CDI (the Guild Improvements CDI just released this last week).

The CDI is an avenue for the players to discuss what they think would be good features, and why, and have a place where they KNOW someone at ANet is listening and participating in the discussion as well.

There is no promise here, there is no implication. CDI’s are simply a place for you to discuss topics you’re passionate about with the devs. That’s it.

If you see that as a waste of time, or some kind of false promise, well then… again, you shouldn’t feel obligated to participate. But for many of us, we just like talking about this stuff, so this is exactly what we want, promises or not.

Take a minute to think of what you’d call a person that refuses to commit to anything so they can never be held accountable for not doing things.

That’s a really poor attitude to take. Let’s say for example they DID decide to say, definitively, “we will make guild halls”. They work pretty steadily for it for half a year, hype it up, get a ton of feedback.

Then, they realize that there’s something in the code that’s hanging them up and won’t let them go any further. Some layover from the original Guild Wars (because the GW2 game is just using a heavily modified engine from GW1). Something is in the way, it can’t be fixed/adjusted without completely re-writing the game engine from scratch.

(As an aside, yes, this type of thing does happen, as players from World Of Warcraft will attest to. Eventually after the Cataclysm expansion, Blizzard broke down and started re-programming the game from scratch to fix some major issues that came from how quickly and largely the game expanded. It was never meant to support the player base it had, and it really started to show before the recoding project was started.)

SO now, it’s either dedicate a huge team to months and months and months of work, for relatively little payout, just to implement one feature that was promised. Of course, it would be ridiculous to take all of that time and development energy away from literally everything else just to implement guild halls. So, instead, the idea is scrapped.

What do you think the fallout from that would be? And don’t say something naive like, “The code can’t be THAT hard to change.” Programming is complicated. It’s layers on top of layers on top of layers. ESPECIALLY when you have a system like they’re using for GW2, where they essentially took one game that already existed and lumped new programming on top of it, programming that was never intended to work with that original game to begin with.

This is the reason why they can’t “dedicate” themselves with a public response. Because if something like this would come up, the community backlash would be catastrophic.

You said there’s many reason ArenaNet has this stance and for good reasons.
Can you give me some examples of what reasons, good reasons, those might be?

I think this should be a sufficient enough response to your question as well, Abaddon. :p

Anyone want to replay personal story quests?

ShadowDragoonFTW.3418

I think that they may do this when they add in Season 1 of the Living Story.

Ah yeah, I really hope they add in Season 1 for us newer players. I haven’t touched Season 2 at all yet because I feel like I would be missing some much needed context.

On a related note, I remember talking to a bunch of Lionguard and NPCs who kept heaping praise on the unparalleled beauty and majesty of Lion’s Arch, but when I finally visited I was greeted with miserable ruins and was just staring at the place like “wat”

I’ll give you all the context you need.

About a year after the fall of Zhaitan, we get word of this crazy Sylvari chick doing some weird stuff and making a nuissance of herself. We team up with what is essentially “Destiny’s Edge: The Next Generation” (Zojja’s protege, Eir’s son, a gladium Charr that Rytlock knew since she was a kitten, and a couple of humans).

We track down Scarlet, find out she’s doing some insane research with leylines and dragons, went over the deep end, tried to blow the hell out of Lion’s Arch, then we killed her.

That’s pretty much season one in a nutshell, and I never even played it myself. :p Do yourself a favor. If you’re waiting to do Season 2 until you can go back and replay Season 1, don’t. Just go and enjoy it now. There’s lots of nifty rewards and some of the missions are pretty fun.

If we come up with what appears to be a solid idea for Guild Halls, will ANet actually carry through with it and put the work into making it and making it right?

You’re never going to get an answer to this question. The absolutely official response is that ANet will never let us in on any projects they’re working on before they are released. There are a lot of reasons for this, and I understand why they have that stance.

That being said, if they ever were to want to implement guild halls, and if they were to use ideas here, they would still never tell us about it until it’s launched. That’s just how it works. So, whether this whole thing is a hypothetical, or whether it actually goes somewhere, it’s not ANet’s policy to tell us, nor should they be obligated to either way.

If you don’t want to “waste your time” discussing hypotheticals like this, then you don’t have to. Some of us love knowing that they’re listening to our ideas, even if nothing ever comes out of it. Just having the discussion and spreading the ideas is enough for most of us.

BETA, by definition, means it is in the second stage of testing. After 2 years of the game, and 1 year of this BETA, it should not be BETA anymore.

Wasn’t GMail in beta for a lot longer than that?

By his own definition, he’s harming himself anyway. As he said, Beta means second stage of testing. However, he’s also putting a time limit on that, saying essentially that the second stage of testing shouldn’t last more than a year.

Why? If it’s still not done, then it’s just not done. Why is putting some arbitrary age on it going to make it better, make it magically “finished”?

Why GW2 just isn't working

Some people like different play styles. For myself, going back to try GW1 after playing GW2? I don’t really care for it. It’s just not that fun for me. I understand there’s a huge difference between two games that are under the same name, but saying that GW2 is “just not working”, when so many people enjoy it?

That speaks more of you personally having an issue with the playstyle, than with something intrinsically wrong with it.

Game Updates: Traits

The GM tier was 2g, the master tier was 50s and the adept tier was 10s to unlock, prior to the April 15th patch.

Yup. I recall saving up for forever to get the GM book … thinking that I could skip the master tier and save a little money. It was so expensive at the time, I had to sell the GM book to buy the Master tier book. :-| That’s what the currency game used to look like, folks. Selling your soul for your third tier Traits.

NPE Feedback [Merged] - Please read 1st post

The devs have been reviewing your feedback on the New Player Experience. While some bug fixes have already been made, the team will be making other updates in the future to address:

  • Plot holes and story inconsistencies that may have been introduced with story realignment

Please revert this horrible change. The story was fine as it is and there was no need for it. I stopped playing my story because of this.

If this change was done because of some players complaining (which I hope it is not and this is just a bug or something…) this will be ridiculous and it show how you have no respect for your own work. You don’t go back and change what it is already in the lore just because of some complaint.

This comment is HUGE double-edged sword after all the changes they’ve reverted from last week.

You say they have no respect for their work, which is why they changed the story missions. You say they shouldn’t listen to others just because they don’t like the story.

However, what does that say about them taking player input about all the changes they made with the NPE? A lot of players didn’t like the changes, and they even reverted some of them (like the levels that utility skills unlocked at). Should they stick to their guns, have respect for their work, and put the Elite unlock back up to level 40?

Listen, there’s a very delicate line to walk here, and you can’t go around plying that kind of mentality. Sometimes things work, sometimes they don’t. But either way, they should be listening to the player base. I don’t like the story changes either, but if they were never changed to begin with, we’d still have the majority voice being “the story sucks, god I hate it!” I’d rather see a dozen threads about wanting it fixed than a dozen threads about how kittenty the storyline is.

Why is LFG Still BETA?

@Mystic: I remember the game right after it launched. I still can picture massive droves of people standing outside of the AC gate calling for parties, and they most definitely did use the LFG tool.

Granted, this was also long before Megaserver, so it was probably a lot more important back then to do it that way.

As said dozen and dozen times before…
Grinding gold is as fun as doing tedious work: Not at all.
Playing the game ? getting gold to buy skins.

Now that’s highly debatable. Some people actually enjoy the gold grind. Boss trains are a popular method to grind gold, and those are both interactive and interesting. Other methods, some people will just do it absentmindedly while watching TV or something.

Some people think gold grinding is tedious, yes, but it’s hardly fair to say that everyone feels the same way. Because they don’t.

Achievement Completion: Jumping Puzzles

Now lets fast forward the game 5 years and lets say they have added another 20-30 jp’s by then. So new players have to do a lot more work than me?

And how many zones do you think they’ll add by then? Full, fleshed-out zones, not just little segments like we’ve been getting with the Living Story.

A lot of people think that, once we get so far into the living story, some of the zones we’re in right now will become full zones like the ones that existend since launch. Which means, every vista, PoI, skill point, and waypoint in, say, Dry Top, will be needed to get Been There Done That. And that’s one zone that’s been added during one single season of Living Story (theory is it will be finished at the end of Season 2). So, let’s add four more new fairly large zones, all of which need to be level 80 to even get into.

Is it still fair for people to be grandfathered in to BTDT? Because I think so. If you get there early, and earn the achievement early, then that’s your bonus. You have to do less to retain it than, comparatively, new people would. They’re late to the party, but they can still earn the achievement and title, they just have to do more work for that. I think that’s completely fair, especially when using your example of “five years down the line”.

If you honestly think nothing is going to change enough in five years that it will be “unfair” for new players, then you haven’t been paying enough attention to the state of the game to this point. People are already grandfathered into Traits without having to unlock them for their characters, and that’s hardly the only thing.

Why isn’t there an in-game survey system that periodically asks me questions about in-game features? Wouldn’t that be super helpful if you’re interested in what your player-base thinks? (which, admittedly, Anet definitely seems to).

Someone in another thread earlier this week actually mentioned something like this as well. Back during the Beta of GW2 (I participated), there was a little questionairre that would pop up sporadically and ask you to quickly rate content you just played. It wasn’t really that intrusive, and though it breaks immersion a little, it would be a great way to get the opinion of the actual players in the game as to what they thought about content. I don’t see why it would be a problem to re-implement it.

I mean, it literally took 30 seconds to fill out, if that, and I got maybe one or two during every six hour play session. That’s really not that often at all, and even trimming it down so it only pops up once a day would still give a ton of feedback for ANet to use.

My characters still does not have feet?

(except my Charr – which was cut off from left to right from the very beginning, which I figured to be a price to be paid for having a Charr character; also, I could rotate the view from left to right to see what was cut off).

That’s either a resolution issue, or a personal bug, because I’ve always been able to see my entire Charr characters in my Hero panel. :-| Might wanna submit a ticket about that.
