The profession practice npc’s there are kittened anyways and won’t really give you any good insight on how to fight another player. Your gear doesn’t matter in sPvP, but it is possible there is a bug with those npc’s. Just make your build, test the damage on the golems, and then try it out in a few hotjoin matches and tweak as necessary.
Healing turret is far superior to Med Kit, especially with all the conditions going out.
The build I have been running is similar but runs Melandru runes and Settler’s amulet. Also I drop AR from alchemy to pick up Speedy Kits and swap out the shield trait from inventions to pick up Elite Supplies. The goal overall is high uptime on vigor, fast movement from point to point, and of course domination of a point. It normally takes about 3 players to pressure me off a point, and even then it’s a long fight. In one fight, I sped over to the other team’s home point and bunkered it against 2-3 players. They did finally kill me, but by then the score was 354 to 50.
You can view my build here. Most of what I picked up about bunker engi came from Voz’s Immortal Bunker build on intothemists.
Look, a completely new and orginal thread. How about next time you take two seconds to search the forums and maybe see if a similar thread already exists eh? Then post in that thread instead of spawning multiple threads on the same topic that has already been argued to death.
Lol. Was a funny read. Even funnier reading the posts that took this seriously and instantly set out to defend their profession or insult the OP. Good stuff.
I’ll have to take your word for it, as I never see the numbers for these players games won/loss numbers ever change.
That “decay” is almost non-existant if it even exists at all. The same people have been sitting in the top ten solo queue forever now without having played any matches at all.
Dont even try…
As downed necro you are a free stomp for any decent player. For pvp necros have one of the worst down states. The damage is one of the highest though…
@Sogradde it seems you dont have any idea how buggy necros were and partly still are…
Engineer takes that role actually. The downed auto attack may not do any worthwhile damage at all, applies random conditions, and can only be increased by 25%. Down state #2 ability is like saying “Hey, you can’t stomp me from over there! Come stand right on top of me, I’ll help you.” And then you just pray you live long enougb to reach your #3 in time which is about the equivalent of guardian #2.
The bright side in all of this though, is we have the option to slot an Elixir R to give us a chance to revive ourselves. Though that is still not excuse for such a crappy downed state.
Maybe they just felt you were being condescending? Not saying you were, but some people are like that. They might of felt that you immediately saw them as nothing more than noobs and were going to talk down to them the whole run. Knowing your guild, I realize this most likely is not the case, but perception is 98% reality.
Even if you have to pug because no one in your crappy guild has time for you, why join some crappy pug group that is already made? Either A) Make your own pug group as this is extremely easy and puts you in control or make sure you are the first one to enter the instance in someone else’s pug group, so that kicking you later on or so would kill the dungeon. Now B doesn’t solve being kicked at start of dungeon, but whatever.
Point of story, be the first one in the instance whether it is your group or someone else’s group, and maybe find a better guild.
Please stop these threads and stop responding to these threads. Lfg not working is no excuse. Lfg works for what it is intended for, pugs. You want quality players? Form a guild of people that want the same thing you want. There is actually already at least one multi-server guild that is dedicated to not skipping trash in dungeons so look them up. And if even making/joining a guild of like-minded individuals doesn’t work, then take that as a hint that nobody, literally nobody, wants what you want so you should move on to another game.
Necro threads much?
Yeah, kinda takes a bit of balance out if some players have access to skills that others don’t. Was pretty sure sPvP was made to prevent that, due to lack of racial skills and gear stats.
Not sure why people continued to list the same fears I already provided…
Probably a terrormancer. And not op, just annoying to fight. Fear when hit then on 90sec cooldown, fear with spectral wall which they will then spectral grasp you into to get off another fear, fear from DS, and fear from a mark, fear if you disable them via master trait, fear when you down them via adept trait, and the possible fear if they corrupt a stability boon on you.
Gee, wonder what profession he plays. lol.
i really want to play this class!
40 seconds you say?
thats even more than hambow!but yeah, in seriousness it does sound like a condi necro spamming away at a diamond skin ele, not sure about the “40 seconds of blocking” though :P
diamond skin ele’s are pretty much indestructible, but I can at least use my flesh golem to remove their immunity, that has a counter, so no complaints there.
It is warriors and guardians that seem to be the problem in my encounters. I have yet to see anyone actually offer any suggestions on this, just insults and belittling… I suspect you are probably playing warriors and guardians, so no surprise there I guess.
Warrior:
Endure Pain: 4 seconds
Endure Pain Trait: 4 seconds
Berserker stance: 8 seconds
Shield Stance: 3 seconds
Defiant stance: 3 secondsThat’s 22 seconds of pure immunity from damage if used back to back. It works out to closer to 40 seconds of effective immunity if they play well.
I’m unfamiliar with Guardian, but they seem similar.
Please go elsewhere if you wish to insult or troll, further posts like that will be reported. If you have an actual suggestion on how to fix this problem you are more than welcome to post.
That is actually only 15 seconds and then all their cooldowns are blown. Endure Pain is only direct damage, Zerker Stance is only condition damage, so for full immune he’d have to use them together. And if you are playing necro, then warhorn breaks shield blocks (very useful for guardian heal) and marks from staff can be traited to be unblockable. You are getting troll replies simply because your post was put in the form of an uneducated rant and did not encourage legitimate feedback.
@ OP. Maybe instead of complaining about your team, get out of mid yourself and cap points instead of focusing on just running the orb? I would say try communicating with your team in /team chat as well in a way that doesn’t sound insulting or degrading, but surely you tried that as well before rushing to the forums to open up yet another thread on a topic that already exists.
True, never thought of it that way. Lol.
And by the way, love your intro there. :-P
Are we really overpowered now? I’ve seen this complaint popping up more and more. And now when I beat someone it’s cause Engi is OP and has nothing to do with how well I played. >. <
If you do wish to bunker in sPvP, just check out the build in my signature. Plenty of evades, blocks, and somewhat decent condition cleanses. An example of what in can do:
In my most recent match I noticed my team running around in one big group. Therefore, they were only able to hold one point at a time. So I took my Bunker Engi to far point and planted myself there. My enemies consited of condi necro, condi engi, condi warrior, and power mesmer. They would normally come at me 2-3 at a time. They could not take the point from me, and while I’m distracting 3 players out of a 5 man team, the rest of my team is capping the other two points. Match won, much Q.Q and Engi OP complaints ensued, followed by my lol’s.
I’ve been doing this since my second post. Trying to refine what type of questions to ask
I’m still struggling with the hardest part of the game: choosing a name….
I don’t suppose there is a forum for that?
Sure, after you decide what race, go to that race’s forum page and ask around. On some race pages, such as Asura, there already exists a thread where people are showing off their names.
I’m now trying to decide between Thief and Warrior ^^
I’m fine with having to take time to learn the profession properly regardless of difficulty, usually when that’s the case I find I enjoy it more and don’t become bored so quickly.
So lastly then could anyone give me a little bit of a more detailed run down of the Thief and Warrior (especially this cancer tank build
)
And personal stories of glorious deeds on the battlefield, or those ‘oh my god did I really just do that’ moments
Well you should definitely give the Thief and Warrior forums a read if those are the two you’re deciding through. It will generally give you a basic idea of what to expect from each profession.
If you look at my signature you’ll see that I actually play a spectral power build, and has always been a viable zerker build. Same with Wellmancer, I have played that build as well with great results. And no, most people run MM as a power bunker. And yes Terrormancer is a condition build, I simply listed it cause you also complained of the lack of diversity. And maybe I just have some mysterious upperhand on thieves, but I only have trouble with a thief if he catches me offgaurd while I’m fighting someone else. So I guess I’ll just never understand the “Thief is OP!” complaint, and I get tired of reading about it in every thread.
congrats you do play a necro. Still saying that spectral power and wellmancer show good results doesn’t mean they’re viable. It means that you can get away with playing them in the right situations. I just don’t get your mindset lol. It’s like the type of person who says “yeah everything is good because it does something.”
What are you comparing it to? You’re saying a zerker necro is just as good as a zerker war or thief? DPS wise.
It is a Zerker build that comes with plenty of condition cleanses and insane Life Force generation. This gives the build plenty of survival while still being a Zerker build and dishes out 3k damage just on auto attacks. But I can already see that trying to explain all of this to someone that obviously doesn’t understand his class and and comes to the forums to cry is a waste.
Based on your forum posts you obviously lack the skill to provide any useful information, much less engage in a discussion about balance. So our conversation is over. You may continue to troll this thread if you wish, but I’d advise others to not hold any value to what you cry about.
Lol. Most of the replies in this thread are biased opinions, but there are a few good points.
I play mostly warrior in sPvP but I would still recommend a guardian over anything else for beginners (even more now with buffs received from new traits).
As far as engi goes yes its a really good profession for sPvP but imho it’s bundle mechanic takes a lot of time to get used to before the profession can be used effectively in sPvP.
A very good point. A suppose the last thing we need is to be giving new players carpal tunnel. Lol
Also, for those claiming to be top tier and wanting a legendary, did you sign up for the tournament?
Only problem is we’d need a way to determine the top tier players because the lol leaderboards is not the way.
Lol. Most of the replies in this thread are biased opinions, but there are a few good points. All I’ll say is do not dismiss the Engineer amongst your choices. The Engineer is a very versatile class with a large variety of viable builds. Not to mention it is extremely fun to play, but that of course is my opinion. I personally play a bunker Engineer as seen in my signature below, and it can be a ton of fun if playing a tanky support role is something you’d like. I can literally defend a point against three other players, and have helped my team win many a matches this way.
Omg with the thief complaints. It must suck to play a Thief and put up with such angry comments all the time. And in no way at all are Necros forced into conditions. Right off the bat, MM, Spectral Power, Wellmancer, and Terrormancer are all viable builds. And recent updates have put Necromancers in a really balanced spot. This game has some of the most build diversity of any mmo I’ve played so far.
terrormancer is a condition build. Wells are not viable idk where u heard that. MM is the only possible power build but most run conditions anyway. Spectral power has become less popular and was never as viable as any real zerker build on any other class.
Your naming builds but not ones that are actually seen aside from MM.
You probably don’t play a necromancer at all. That’s my guess I could be wrong. And what are you using to base their balance? I don’t see where you’re coming from at all.
P.S. Angry or not none of what I said was a lie. Show me how what I said about thief was untrue?

Omg, leaderboard decay would be amazing. People sitting at the top right now and they’ve played maybe 10 games and are just sitting on their rank now. I agree a simple reset will not do, something has to change.

Of course it’s not perfect and it never will be, but it’s a kitten good job and they are still working it out.
I main Engineer, I have some of the crappiest condition removal in the game. When I build completely for damage, even in a condition build, I know I am going to have trouble against conditions due to it being my weakness. But instead of complaining, I made a bunker build, and now I fear nothing.
@OP, I can’t believe someone is really complaining about bunkers now. Not even condition bunkers, but straight out can’t kill anything at all bunkers. Maybe some people got tired of being destroyed by all the constant 7k-14k crits out there, or being pummeled by a barrage of conditions. Bunker builds do just what they are intended to do, they survive, that’s it. If a bunker can’t even survive a 1v1, then what is the point of even making a bunker build.
Problem with everyone is they want the one build that dominates everything and loses to nothing and they come to the forums to throw a fit every time someone kills them. And please, consolidate all of your complaints into one thread at least instead of making a new thread on an old topic over and over and over again.
Well I don’t know, they actually did touch up on racial skills a bit in this last patch, which was shocking to see. Chances of them making further updates are slim, but at least we know they do still remember they exist.
Engi and Ranger have both had unkillable 1v1 bunker builds available, except engi has more access to condispam now.
Warrior still has OP healing.
We have no more access to condition spam than we did before. In reality, not much has changed for the Engineer at all, and I’m not sure where everyone is seeing this increase in Engineers at, but it could be people panicking about a drop in zerker damage (which has been severely over dramatized) and looking to roll a condition based class(Necro/Engi).
In fact the ones who got the buff to condition spam was actually the Necro. And I have seen a sharp increase in Terror Necros running the redisigned Nightmare Runes. Talk about some serious condition burst.
And Engi Bunker unkillable 1v1? Hah! Try 1v3. I may not be able to kill anything at all, but I can also occupy over half the team in a 5v5.
So I tested it out and it works but could you explain how you derived that equation?
It’s true. Doesnt matter how positioned you are. I am going to run up on my bunker Engi, Toss Elixir S, and then Magnet Pull you to your death without giving you the slightest chance of counter play. Then I’m going to sit on that point and bunker the hell out of it.
Eh, kinda blowing this out of proportion here. You can faceroll a story mode dungeon in no time at all, and I seriously doubt any hidden intentions behind this on Anet’s part. Not to mention these reward tracks now provide a way for sPvP players to get dungeon loot faster than any PvE player ever could.
The story mode is boring beyond words especially because it’s unrewarding, why should my earlier work not count? That is the issue, not with the unlock itself particularly.
And your last statement about the rewards, in my opinion a pvp’er should maybe get around the same rewards with the same time effort spent as a pve’er, but ‘get dungeon loot faster than any pve player ever could’ sounds off.
As it stands with spvp being more rewarding while pve is getting nerfed seems by itself a coercion for players to do what anet wants, and not for us to play as we want.
WvW needed more incentive, now spvp has too much instead.
It may be boring and yeah our previous story mode runs should count, but again it’s so easy and quick to just run it again that it’s not even worth complaining about.
And yes, it is much faster to get dungeon loot in sPvP now than in the actual dungeon.
And right now WvW does have incentive with the tournament and all going on. Just not sure what incentive will remains afterwards except for the fact that it’s just fun.
Dont get me wrong, im 100% for the removal of dhuumfire &co. (yes engies youre next), hope this point make u see why its not worth taking it.
We’re not next. IP will stay as is. Different professions, different mechanics. So I wouldn’t hold your breath on IP changes. ;-)
If this is Anet’s way to force older players to help newer ones who don’t have the SM done, I’m not impressed.
I had all the story modes done on my character during the first few months after launch, and just like their names it’s mainly about the story, not even rewarding. It’s not right to be blocked from this as we have already done this before.
I understand that there is a rotation and I can just do the temporarily unlocked one anyway, but this sets a precedence, just because I did something before a patch it doesn’t count, when the people who are doing the exact same thing now does? Some of the others even repeated the story mode just to have this unlocked, and I for one consider that to be a boring and unpleasant experience.
If I wanted to help people, I would do this of my own freewill, instead Anet is subtly forcing me to in this way.

Really doesn’t make sense to not have a Bank in the Mist’s, particularly after the merge.
If they are afraid of over crowding at the supposed Bankers location they could always implement an unlimited PvP exclusive “Bank Access” In the UI. This could of course only be accessible in the Mists.
Either way, A Bank needs to exists within the Mists.
Next I would say, with the addition of all these crafting materials inside assorted PvP rewards a simple crafting station also seems like it would be mandatory.
This is bizarre for me, for I have rarely stepped out of the Mists since launch and spent all my time within sPvP and have never spent any time crafting. Now I’m getting the feeling crafting is going to be mandatory for PvP now.
If this is in fact the case then yes, A crafting station should be within the Mists.
I don’t really think crafting has anything to do with sPvP. And I’m sure Anet doesn’t want players to just sit in the Mists 24/7. So like I said, a bank would be useful but anything more than that is going overboard.
For those that don’t know, channeled attacks also continue to channel and deal damage even through stealth and in most cases LoS.
How do I ‘get the stars to align’ to do 14k with one hit with my Ele?(Who has no invisibility mechanic and less armor). Oh that’s right, I can’t.
Let’s keep in mind that a thief caught out of stealth is a dead thief. And no you can’t get that in one hit, but you can get that by rapidly chaining together high damage attacks. And your class doesn’t get stealth due to the survival tools already available to you.
With that aside, such a high damage skill coming out of stealth is a bit unbalanced. But again, with how squishy thieves are outside of stealth, they kinda have to rely on cheap shots from stealth. Bit of a tricky balance issue.
Bank sounds good. Everything else is a bit much.
Based on his screenshot he was playing his Mesmer, not his Ele. Just saying, for all those that keep giving Ele advice.
Can’t you people at least condense all of your pointless inaccurate ranting into one thread?
Well I came across a rabid engi in spvp earlier today, and he melted my bunker engi like nothing. My healing and condition removal simply could not keep up with his condi damage.
I honestly can say I am worried about this balance.
You might want to redesign your bunker spec then. Because the bunker spec I play has stood up to many a condition build including Engi and Necro while also holding off a point against 1 or 2 of his teammates. In fact, met another bunker Engi in some matches last night, wound up on the same team, and had some epic fun. In one match we literally locked down the entire map with a score of 500 to 0.
The comments I am reffering to are the coments spread out on this forum and the numerous other forums. And all you’re telling me is you just aren’t as good at playing a power build as you are a condition build. Your inexperience in dealing with conditions doesn’t prove anything, and your exagerrated comments reflect your ignorance.
And what is it with all this 3 stat vs 1? Dear god you mean someone that does slower damage all the time is able to pick up stats that allow them to live long enough to do damage!?!? And again, I myself play a power build, and have none of these issues everyone is crying about and there are many others like myself. Maybe you just don’t have the skill to properly play a burst damage build eh?
Lmao about Engi bombs. You mean those things that he places on the ground that have a delayed explosion and are clearly marked with red circles? Dear god how much more of a telegraph do you need? And if you aren’t built to survive, then you counter those flames covering the point by GETTING OFF THE POINT! Sounds like a bunch of glass cannons whining that they can’t sit on a point like a bunker.
And what happens when you get off the point? Like I said before, if someone dodges one of your conditions, then fine, you just hit the 1,2,3,4,5,7,8,9…or in the case of engineer…1,2,3,4,57,1,2,3,4,5,8,1,2,3,4,5,9,1,2,3,4,5…Please tell me the secret of your ways on how you recover after someone dodges one of your conditions?!?!
Well I play Bunker Engi and Power Necro. Bunker Engi I am just built to survive, so I can stand on that point in the fires and /laugh. Power Necro I have to move. I have to pressure my opponent. I can cleanse conditions once I feel they may actually be a threat and I can have my opponent burst down before he can ramp up his conditions on me again.
I may have to take extra precaution in cases such as a skilled Terror Necro, but the fact is it can still be done. In all these arguments people defending conditions provide math and gameplay examples from logical approaches to explain what is going on. Yet all I see from those against conditions are highly exaggerated remarks and completely false “facts” being thrown around. Do you really expect anyone to take your ranting seriously?
And after all is said and done, and you still think condition classes are op as hell, then change your spec to condition based. And I don’t wanna hear the “I would but I don’t enjoy it” coverup when what you really meant to say was “I would but turns out I suck at that too.”
Very impressive. But what changes from the patch affected this?
Someone know if those mines remove boons?
I believe Anet stated they would not remove boons back during the ready-up.
