You should check out intothemists.com. They have really great in depth guides there which also include a couple of leveling guides.
It is really hilarious how many people do not even read enough to see this is a troll thread. Fail, uber fail.
Which race do you think it is best to play Necromancer as and why? I have my Asuran Necromancer, but I kind of feeling like re-rolling another Necromancer to replace him with. Any thoughts?
Lol. OP “I rolled a warrior! I should be able to kill anything! If I can’t beat something, NERF IT TO THE GROUND!”
Omg, so funny. Poison, Interrupts, Stuns, Condition Cleanse, Vulnerability, many ways to deal with such a build. Unless of course your build contains none of these counters. In that case, you are your own worst enemy.
I am curious though, is the heal epically better or something with Healing Power gear? Has anyone tried that?
So I just forked out the 25 points for this ability to test it out. I notice it is 5 sec duration now, I thought it used to be 4. But anyways, here is what I found using it with Carrion gear.
The basic heal is incredibly small. But that’s ok, it’s not supposed to be big right?
Then I noticed how crazy it is to get the timing just right.
Then I noticed, after several attempts, that the heal when you do finally get everything right and the planets align, is still incredibly small. Pretty much a basic heal.
Can’t help but feel I’m risking alot here when I could just as simply drink an Elixir H on a much shorter cooldown with no gimmicks.
And on final test, it doesn’t save you from fall damage. Ugh.
On final note, the toolbar ability blows. Maybe make it an AoE stun? Or dish out a nice chunk of damage along with the stun?
Who designed this waste of time and resources? O.o
Which will put out more damage in a 30/0/0/30/10 HgH build for dungeons? Taking Incendiary Powder for added burn damage or Enhance Performance for 3 more stacks of might? Running Carrion gear with Sigil of Strength and Sigil of Perception btw.
What is this in reference to? I must have missed something.
Personally I see the Toolkit as a much more effective utility kit and in-your-face kit. The only thing provided by the flamethrower utility speaking is the air blast and a one-hit aoe blind. Making it a smoke field with the same cast implications upgrades it to a multi-hit aoe blind. So, assuming everything about smoke vent remains the same aside from it now creating a smoke field, it would in no way have any negative effect on anyone’s game play. It is a slight increase in relief from melee attackers, something to be expected from a so-called utility kit. Not to mention gives me an out-of-combat smoke field without forcing me to slot bomb kit. Meaning the ability to blast aoe stealth for skipping pve content or sneaking up on enemies in pvp. And arguing that this change should never happen just because you want more damage (from what everyone constantly refers to as a utility kit, not damage kit) is silly. It’s like saying, “Since I can’t have more damage then you can not have a smoke field implemented, due to the fact there is no way these hypothetical changes could ever be accomplished at the same time.”
Point is, this conversation is about adding more utility to a utility kit that would not be op nor negatively effect anyone’s current builds. To stay on topic and be constructive, it would be more interesting to hear if you feel such a change would be op or negatively affect your build.
Only one bad comment, nice. Anyways, the reason for this plea is that I run a very effective Flamethrower, Rocket Boots, Elixir Gun PvE bunker build. Currently my survival is great, and I can blast either Might or AoE heals like it’s nothing, and still do decent damage. However, I can not enter stealth with this build, and when in melee range of enemies Smoke Vent only prevents one attack per enemy in range. Now if Smoke Vent created even the tiniest of Smoke Fields, then the option of blasting Stealth would open up as well as giving me some more breathing room in melee combat. This change would make my build perfect and complete.
Please please please change Smoke Vent to create a smoke field instead of just an AoE blind.
Is taking Explosives V and VII really worth it? Seems even going into the Explosives line there are other traits that will give you a better over-all damage output, but I dunno. Here is what I’ve been running in sPvP.
Wow, never made a thread hit two pages before. lol
Anyways, I am sadly running HgH Nades right now, and, while effective, is still a bit dull for my tastes. I keep seeing posts on here about SD builds though so I am curious, what SD builds are you running? Maybe I am just not effectively using mine?
I’ll post mine in a bit btw, my wife wants to run a dungeon.
Well, after trying everything, it looks like it’s either nades/bombs, S/D, or some gimmicky build that is difficult to pull off in the all-so-common xv1 scenarios. =(
Hey, it’s either you learn or you learn. One way or the other you gotta learn.
Wasn’t insulting your builds. Hell, even subscribed to youtube channel. What I refer to as gimmicky is a build that requires everything to fall into place just right to be effective all the time, something that is often more difficult when outnumbered and being focused.
I wasn’t offended. What I meant was, it’s either you learn to work with grenades and bombs or you learn to play those difficult builds that everyone is showing you.
The issue isn’t learning to play or work with nades or bombs, it’s just that nades and bombs got boring. So I’m just looking for something new that can have just as efficient if not better output. If one doesn’t exist, oh well. But there is no harm in asking around and trying out builds people are suggesting. Not all builds that neglect nades and bombs are difficult. This isn’t a “oh god please help me thread!” This is just me seeing what is working for others that I might enjoy to get out of a playstyle I have become bored with. Hope that clears up all confusion.
Currently testing S/D build utilizing Sitting Duck and Net Turret for fast 25 Invuln stacking right before burst.

Was looking for a damage build, and static discharge builds are nothing more than a cheap trick to kill glass cannons. SD involves sacrificing all defense just in order to tick someone off and make yourself an easy target. The damage output does not justify the sacrifice of survival.
Have you tried; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TN8jc3xtHxU
I’ve updated the build since then but it still works. You’re not necessarily the hardest target to kill but you’ve got a few escape options.
This looks fun but I guess I just can’t pull it off. I can’t get enough damage in before the entire enemy teams focus me down and destroy me.
This build was absolutely horrible for me. Not enough damage, not enough survival.
God, I wake up to see so many builds in response. Went back and tried S/D, and again, the damage is nice, survival centered around shield, dodging, and using your environment to assist you. But having played burst builds on other professions, it just doesn’t feel as though the amount of survival I have to sacrifice yields enough burst damage in return. But I do see some interesting builds here, so I’m going to give them a shot and I’ll get back with you guys. =)
HGH is nades is it not?

Really looking to find a build that is viable in sPvP without focusing on nades/bombs. Can’t seem to find one though, so just feels like I’m forced into playing something I don’t enjoy on the profession I enjoy the most. :/
Do any questions actually get answered here? This whole “Error Attempting to Sell” issue has been going on since game start, but I can’t find anything anywhere on a solution for it. Anyone have an ideas on this?
Man, even on the fake patchnotes, there’s no Turret bugfixes.
lol
If you’re running Elixir Gun, Rocket Boots, and Elixir S, then you have multiple blast finishers there easily. When using Rocket Boots, you only have to pass through the field at some point to get the blast finisher. So if you really wanted to make use of that Water Field you could…….
6 Put down healing turret, 6 Overcharge turret, [F1] Detonate Turret,[4,4] Magnetic Shield + Magnetic Inversion blast, [Elixir Gun-4] Acid Bomb out, [Rocket Boots] Rocket yourself through the remaining water field.
Flame Blast does scale great with power, as does the Acid Bomb from the Elixir Gun. And while Acid Bomb is a close range attack, it also opens up distance between you and your target.
I would rather Flamethrower 5 emit a smoke field instead of just a blind, and let’s not get rid of packaged stimulants. Used properly, this trait actually works great.
Is there a Static Discharge Build still viable for sPvP? Just wondering because I feel like I’m giving up all my defense to spec full glass cannon, but then not getting the damage output out of it.
Build Info: Been going 0/30/0/10/30 with Berserker’s Amulet and Scholar Runes.
There are alot of useful items currently in game, but at the moment the only way to access them is to open up you inventory and manually click on them.
It would be nice if we could either keybind certain slots in our inventory or have a toolbar that we could drag items to, allowing us to use the item without pulling up our inventory.
Assuming about 20k health pool, need to do 2k damage, my life blast hits for 3k+ in a single shot, seems nothing has changed for my build.
From what I’ve seen, and this may be my lack of experience, if I want a power/crit build I have to go Warrior/Guardian/Mesmer/Thief. Mainly due to they can access power/crit abilities while still maintaining plenty of Control/Defense/Stealth/Immunities. I feel like to do the same thing on say my Necro or Engi, I have to give up all my survival abilities (most of which I could still pick up had I made a bunker or condition build) just to be able to put out enough direct damage to actually kill someone before being obliterated.
At first I was ok with this, thinking I’d just stay with a group and let them fight while I pick off targets, but then it never fails I get focused and burned down, often under a ocean of conditions. What’s sad is I really enjoy the style of the Necro and Engi, but hate that I am forced into a certain way of playing where as other prof get legitimate options.
Ok, if you want to focus on power then focus on power. What is a decent amount of power, what is high, what is low? Sorry for not spelling out the question for everyone. Not interested in your builds. Basically wondering if somewhere someone has SOME idea of what decent power/toughness/vitality/whatever levels are. Not looking to go into deep “what if” scenarios, not looking for trolls. Just someone with legitimate help answer.
Anyone else feel as though there is an imbalance between the overall effectiveness of power builds vs condition builds. May not be true for all professions, but having played necro and engi so far, I feel almost forced into condition builds if I want to kill something and have any sort of survivability. It’s as though the second I try to switch to a power build, I can pull off some great attacks but die the second someone sneezes at me.
Attack factors in power. Was looking for a number range if anyone has derived one. Not looking for a build.
The combat is more involving in this game than most other mmo’s. And as stated above, if you want really challenging combat try PvP. Also helps if you get connected with a guild and play with friends. Between dungeons, events, WvW, and PvP, there is something for everyone.
And forgot to mention, this is for an sPvP Necro Build Focusing on fully utilizing Death Shroud.
For the Attack attribute, what is considered to be good in terms of putting out direct damage? Looking for a range basically. What range would be considered having weak Attack? Medium Attack? Heavy Attack?
Let’s all face the facts here. Everyone complaining about their real money knows FOR A FACT that they are going to spend those 800 gems on something else eventually. All this complaining is just for the sake of complaining.
Seems a refund of to those that bought the set and complete removal would have been better due to the fact that when the set is updated, what if players do now not like what they have purchased?
I love this thread
I am curious as I have not heard anything yet, what about all of the people that purchased this set before it was removed?
Just seems silly the amount of stealth / blind / invuln stomps I can pull off with my engi, but ds stomp has to be so complicated. Really wanting to try necro, but I dunno
So how difficult is it to get the timing right to hit the stomp and ds simultaneously?
Can you stomp a player while remaining in Deathshroud?
Yeah……about that. I was hoping maybe there was some solution that didn’t involve insane amounts of security questions and didn’t involve me tracking down the box this game came in a year ago to find my product key….
I need to know how to go about updating my email address for the game. I am currently in the process of migrating everything to a new email address, and I can’t finish until the address on my game account is changed over.
I like to go in with a might-stacking flamethrower build. It has been working great for me in sPvP.
Sorry, but Asuran tech is more advanced. That’s a bit obvious. And just because engineers from other races use clockwork and steam tech, doesn’t mean that an Asura would abandon the great magitech at his disposal to go and use clockwork and steam like all the other races, the very same races they see themselves intellectually superior to.
