Hello. I’ve played the hell out of Necromancer and Engineer and am looking to try something new. I’ve been enjoying the Mesmer so far and just noticed the wealth of great information you guys have stickied up top. So far I have just toyed around with a Sword/Torch Greatsword 4/4/0/0/6 Shatter build and have had alot of fun.

However, I find that I often become an easy target and don’t put out as much damage as I potentially could be. This is sPvP hotjoin btw. I normally pop two clones and daze the enemy followed by some greatsword clone/phantasm attacks then dodge roll and shatter. Use Blurred Frenzy when I can. I run Zerker ammy and have tried various runes and sigils but always use at least Energy Sigils on each weapon set.

Any advice?

Ok. I was wondering if it did reflect projectiles fired from inside the bubble as well. Still, seems like such a silly skill. Instead of safe bubble of reflection around you and allies, you put a small bubble around an enemy that can just side-step out of it?

So I decided to try something new and made a Mesmer. Read into the skills, made a build, and went into sPvP. Went to cast the Feedback bubble or whatever, and was like WHAT THE HELL!? It made no sense to me. It is an ability that reflects projectiles. So I thought, sounds nice. I can reflect back attacks while casting ranged attacks of my own. BUT IT CAST THE BUBBLE OVER THE ENEMY!? Am I missing something here? Like if they are in the bubble does it still reflect the attack back to them? Or is this ability only meant to be used on an oponent in melee range to protect you from outside projectile attacks from his allies?

Minions are pretty bugged right now. At the moment Minion Master is an easy build to pick up and play in Hotjoins, even with the bugs. With some practice it is actually a half decent build with all of the contol available, but it desperately needs bug fixes.

This thread has nothing to do with OP skills or unbalanced downstate skills or anything like that.

The skill is bugged, it would be nice to have it fixed, that’s all.

Well I can verify that in sPvP that is not the case. Ranger was down, used pet healing, feared the pet away, pet came back after the fear wore off and continued healing.

I think the only thing that should change is if you interrupt the pet it cancels the heal and places it on cooldown. I mean, really, I would think this to be obvious actually. In what world does it make since that we interrupt a skill and then it just goes back to doing it’s thing?

It not always that fault of the the team that one of their members didn’t show up, such as in solo queue. And no matter how you look at it, a 4v5 match is not a fair match. It’s frustrating for the disadvantaged team and an easy win for the advantaged team.

Detecting someone who is afk is an issue that exists with or without my proposed changes. The difference is, with my changes, if they improved on kicking and punishing an afk person, it wouldn’t hurt the team that just lost a player as bad due to the benching system then kicking in.

And if no one on your team dies, then that is incredible! The plus side is your team probably won and you got rewards for doing nothing, with the only downside being you had to sit on the sidelines.

My point is, putting my proposed bench system into place creates a better match for both teams as a whole.

So in another discussion about how to prevent 4v5 arena matches and such, I thought of something that seems absolutely perfect.

My solution is a “bench.” Goes like this. Red Team only has 4 players. Blue Team has 5. As a result, a random player from Blue Team gets benched. That player is stuck on the bench till one of his teammates is defeated, after which he gets to spawn into the match and the defeated player now sits on the bench waiting for his turn to get back in the match.

This way, the match is still balanced. This solution would work with any sort of unbalanced fights. Everyone still gets to participate in the match, and therefore still gets the rewards that their team earns.

So, would like to hear your thoughts and maybe get Anet to consider this as a long term goal, as I’m guessing it might tike some time to implement.

Or, from your example provided above, let Blue Team decide who to kick instead of Red Team. Or not really kick, but rather bench. That’s it! Forget pausing gameplay and voting!

Random player from the 5 man team gets benched. When a player from his team dies, the dead player gets benched and he gets to come back in. And so on and so on. Being that everyone still participated, everyone still gets all the usual rewards.

I was playing so hotjoin matches to pass the time last night, running my power necro, and got tired of being constantly outnumbered in fights. I mean, I don’t mind losing because I was outnumbered, but if I have 2-3 enemies out of a 5 man team on me, I expect the rest of my team to be able to cap at least something. But this wasn’t the case, I was dying for nothing.

So I changed my build to MM since minion ai is better than the intelligence of the players on my team. And to my surprise, it performed better than I thought. The sustain just through healing was great, and of course I had access to plenty of cc. So it wound up being a pretty fun night.

If they were tryharding to win, it was probably solo/teamQ. I would also advise and kindly ask you to not post anything tied only to hotjoin, as nobody cares and it mostly makes your point look totaly unvalid.

Or I could post as I please and ignore obnoxious posts such as yours? Op didn’t mention what form of gameplay, and if it is arena there is literally nothing that can be done about it so I posted the only advice whatsoever that could counteract this being done to someone, despite it being a hotjoin-specific solution.

So to sum everything up, I really enjoy Chaith’s hybrid build and variations of it. Also messed around with a Static Discharge build again, and to my suprise the burst is considerably better than I remember it being. So I’ve been having fun again playing a power or hybrid engi. Really I’m not bothered so much by doing some event to Unlock a Trait. But when I make an Asuran Engineer, and want to unlock the Speedy Kits Trait, and it tells me to do so I have to travel to the other side of the globe and complete an entire map just to unlock an Adept Trait……wtf?

I really enjoy the idea of doing some event to unlock these Traits, but they should be reasonable and should never include Map Completion or Group Events. I don’t mind the traveling, I mind the time it takes to complete an entire map. I don’t mind the challenge, I mind being unable to to achieve the task without a group of people there to help me achieve a personal goal.

I have no issues with Skyhammer but that is because I am an Engineer. Do you know what stops you from being magnet pulled? A well timed dodge, stability, or LoS. That is it. The magnet pull will get you even if you stealth or block or whatever. Add Elixir S into the mix and I am guaranteed to get the kill and steal the point. All of this in a rated match.

That being said, though it may be fun and easy for me, this map has no place in rated matches period. Limit it to Hotjoins and leave it that way.

I’m looking for a power Engineer build that actually works. Tired of running condition or bunker builds, want to change it up a bit. But every power build I run gives up all hopes of survival yet doesn’t yield out great damage in return.

I’m not too concerned about survival, but if I have to be a squishy target, I don’t want the fight taking forever due to a lack of damage output.

You mentioned something about not queuing for arenas for a reason but never stated that reason. It definitely seems that getting together a team of your friends and doing team arenas might at least alleviate the aggravation of the one-sided hotjoin battles.

And I definitely agree that more map modes are needed. Conquest definitely gets old. But saying bunkers that sit on a point require no skill is very far from the truth. Against an enemy using a balanced build, sure, it isn’t hard to survive his attacks, waste his time, and hold the point. But when going up against an enemy that is built for nothing but damage, it is significantly more challenging.

I play a bunker Engineer. And to help my team I have to sit on a point and survive, while distracting as many of the enemy team as I can before calling for help. Thieves will burst me down fast. Condition builds are extremely dangerous due to the Engineer’s lack of condition removal. And AoE skills are devastating because I can’t leave that tiny point. Trust me, it is not easy surviving against 2 or 3 players or against enemies with bunker-destroying builds.

This build isn’t anything new at all. If you’re using intothemists, then you should know that this is just another variation of Voz’s Immortal tPvP build, much like the tPvP bunker build I run down in my signature. And I’d highly recommend swapping out for Healing Turret and picking up Elite Supplies somewhere.

Wow, came back to check out this thread, and apparently I started some heated discussion. I read through it all though, seems to be a huge debate between Grenade Kit and Bomb Kit. And I can’t believe I completely forgot that of course Grenade Kit is better for Vuln stacking due to each attack being 3 hits. Silly me. But this brings up another question for me. The Grenade Kit stacks more Vuln, but lacks a fire field and blast finisher. So is it better to hit the 25 Vuln cap, or fall short of the cap but in return supply Might stacks to the group.

Also, if you run both Bomb and Grenade kits, would you be hurting yourself any? Such as less utilities you can bring, less blast finishers etc.

Whats really annoying is their insane access to throwing ppl around.

That insane access to throwing people around only exists in melee to medium range. And someone who picks up that much control doesn’t have insane survival. Just take the time to kill them real quick instead of just running right up on them and playing into their hands.

Or of course there is the option of stability to completely negate their build if you have reliable access to it.

It’d be more helpful to say I am using X build and cannot beat Y build engi.

But generally, get used to spotting their defensive cooldowns, and save your major bursts for after they use most of them up.

Ways they mitigate damage:
Traits
- Projection Injection – Gain protection when cc’d
- Automated Response – Reduce condi duration by 50% at 33% health
- ___________(forgot name) – Gain around 100 health per second when any kit is equipped

Weapon Skills
- ToolKit #4 – Block for 2s
- Shield #5 – Reflects projectiles (can’t move though) (can be pressed again for knockback)
- Shield #4 – Blocks projectiles; stuns anyone who does melee damage (but then block ends immediately

Then some other things to keep up with is if you are blinded (Pistol #3, Bomb #4) or not and etc. But yeah, more details help

Backpack Regenerator is the trait you’re looking for. Toolkit 4 is a 3 second block. Shield 4 is the reflective bubble, used again for knockback. Shield 5 blocks everything and stuns melee attackers and can be used again toss the shield dazing everything in it’s path to and from the caster.

And no, we’re not unkillable. Far from it. However, we can be really great bunkers. But to achieve that we give up most of our damage, as it should be. No OPness here.

Thanks for all the useful info. And yes, my main concern was dealing with random pugs holding me back. Quick question though, I’ve been under the impression that the Bomb Kit out damages the Grenade Kit. And Vuln stacking should be about the same between the two since Bomb 2, 4, and 5 tick Vuln on pulse as well. Is this not right?

Why this thread again? You couldn’t just dig up some old thread and continue to argue it into the ground a bit more. There is plenty of build diversity so long as you’re not running speed runs. If you are running speed runs, then that is you’re own fault.

Nothing at all is stopping you from running a dungeon the way you want with whatever build you want. Just run in and kill every mob in there. Support your group with a support or bunker build. Why does everyone think the Holy Trinity made things more interesting? Tanks runs in, slams face on keyboard to hold lol aggro. Dps throw everything they have to do more damage than the dps next to him and claim bragging rights. And the Healer afks while tossing the tank the occasional heal. Yeah, so glad we got away from that crap.

Want crazy dungeon mechanics? Do the TA Aertherblade path. See how many people want to pug that with you, then come to the realization that the majority of the playerbase doesn’t want what you want, they just say they do.

Think dungeons are too easy? Stop pugging, find a good PvE guild, and run dungeons with one bunker, one support, and three damage dealers, and clear the dungeon 100%. Can’t find such a guild? Then that only goes back to other people don’t want what you want.

People are the problem, not the game.

I think most teams post patch are picking what’s comfortable for the sake of minimizing mistakes.

Some classes have become incredibly strong post patch, I.e engineer, however due to the risk of doing something “new In a tournament environment” few are playing them.

That explains why hambow ect is still prevalent.

I can’t say I blame them, if only the tournament was 4 weeks from now, Im sure you’d see a higher variety in builds and comps.

It seems like the teams that are taking advantage of newer specs are getting rewarded. That being said if the tourney had taken place later we probably would have seen 3/5 players using condi.

Everyone knows at this point that you have no idea how to handle conditions, doesn’t mean anything for the rest of the community that actually knows how to play the game.

Flamthrower is also OP! Burning on auto attack and the toolbelt skill! Not to mention Engineers get way too many fire fields! Burning all day and nothing I can about it!!!

Pug Dungeon Build?

So I’m looking for a dungeon build to carry a pug with. Noticing that going straight up zerker when the rest of my group is not greatly decreases my chance of survival. However, I don’t want to try to spend all my time supporting them either. So I guess I’m looking for a middle ground of being able to survive without sacrificing too much damage. Preferably something running with a rifle and bomb kit at minimum.

Engineer Solo Dungeon Runners

Did some searching on YouTube and couldn’t find any videos of an Engineer soloing an entire dungeon path. Plenty of boss solo videos, but nothing showing an Engineer soloing a complete path.

Anyone know of a video I could look up on this or perhaps a build that would perform well for solo dungeon runs? Or if you are awesome at soloing dungeons perhaps record a video with some informative commentary?

Your remarks were “Your build is horrible because this, good luck with that.”

Possible solid advice to someone who knows a thing or two about Engineers, but harsh approach to the new Engineer and ultimately innefective. Again, new player help, probably not your strong point.

It’s pretty horrible build for basicly anything (probably even for going afk every few min killing mobs one could find out something better).

For WvW it has completly no use. Even killing sentry would take really long time.
For PvE pretty much anything would be better:
No point there having many deffensive items (zerker all the way, eh…)
Pretty bad damage due nearly to non critical chance.
Too much health in comparsion to heal you can offer yourself.
No boons, but one with about 1/6 uptime – regen.
Rather horrible runes for PvE and pointless for WvW with such build since it wouldn’t save you at all.
Double same-type sigils (only one out of two sigils will stack, not both together).
Bad traits even for turret build.

and so on and on.

Yes, let’s tell him everything that is wrong with a build made by a player new to Engineers made and give him no useful advice at all towards making a build that will work. He wants to use turrets so he probably isn’t too concerned with being optimal at the moment and will most likely pug most of his dungeon runs and just wants to have fun.

Knowing this and unless he states otherwise, we probably shouldn’t rule out every build that isn’t zerker dps. I haven’t taken the time to make a full turret build, so the advice I gave is all I have to offer. If you have nothing more to offer than “Your build is horrible” then maybe replying in posts to help new players isn’t really your thing.

Turrets are mainly taken as area denial, control, bunkering, or to compliment another build. However, your build is not going to excell in any of these categories and thus will be dominated by every other build out there.

I take it you’re looking to use this build on the PvE side. If you’re looking to fill a support role I’d suggest you take a look at some of our new turret traits. If you’re looking to be a damage dealer or want to play a more bunker/tank style, I’d recommend at least dropping a turret to pick up a kit such as the Toll Kit. Luckily the Tool Kit would still fit into your theme as well.

There is currently a bug with all NPC damage in PvP being higher than intended. We are shooting to get this fixed before the Tournament of Legends.

Yup. Noticed this on everything except necro minions. I wonder, anyone been hit like crazy by an engi turret lately? I wouldn’t know being as I am always on the giving end of that one. But I am curious.

It’s always funny to see Asurans name the characters after npc’s. Such as MM necro asura name Bone Minion and so on. Thank god for Tab targeting.
