These people having issues with turret engi ai must get destroyed in dungeons. >. <
“Broken class/spec” and “op” is tossed around so freely these days. If you have issues beating a class at this point, it’s 90% a learn to play issue. Everyone is so eager to believe that if they lose it must be because the other guy is using some op/broken/cheese/insta win build.
The current meta uses grenades/flamthrower/Elixir Gun.
I would hope that rankings at the end of the match are determined by each team’s average ranking. So a team with only 4 players would have a much lower average ranking (if the missing player is factored in as a ranking of 0) and thus a loss wouldn’t drop your rank much, if at all, due to being significantly out ranked by the opposing team. And vise-versa the opposing team wouldn’t gain much, if any, rank due to significantly out ranking your team.
But of course I don’t know any of this for sure, just seems logical.
This thread needs to go on forever till gadget traits become useful!
Yeah, the elite is just sad. I’ve commented on some of those posts listed above, but nothing has ever been done about it. The past few patches try to allow more “buffs” on it by allowing certain traits to work with it, but it just isn’t enough and I doubt we’ll get anything to replace it. Oh well… Supply Crate for life.
Do not under-estimate Elixir X. :P
It has a very small radius but my pistol 1 does aoe bleed.
I find it useless to argue with people crying for Engineer nerfs or changes. All they see is “Engineer stomped me, thus Engineer is not fair, please nerf.” Might stacking builds are nothing new, before we just ran 2 of each strength rune. What has changed is the Celestial amulet that has made them more viable and popular. IP is a bad game mechanic and every Engineer agrees with this. Many Engineers would much rather this trait be reworked and to be compensated elsewhere to promote more active play.
To sum it up, some balance changes to the Engineer are welcomed. But these crazy changes such as cd on kits and what not, will never happen no matter how much you complain.
I personally have no problem against engineer now, might stacking included, Elementalist’s another story.
I complained (silently) when it had “Automated Response” that made him Immune to conditions 25% hp or less, which forced me to build power (I do not like hybrids). To be honest a nerf on CD kit is not crazy, engineer makes a class with the same structure than others. All have CD swap which forces everyone to know when to change weapon or keep in mind when changing as a result of runes (this means more skill, if you change your weapon is not needed you can lose your life, a location or your allies), engineer does what he wants when he wants without thinking “hey I removed the shield and now the ranger and the thief that are coming to me open my kitten . was obliged to issue? re-equip block block block”.
This is a fact not a complaint.
Engineer Kits are not weapons. Professions are not designed to be the same. This whole, X class has this so my class should have it too is just plain old and ridiculous. Our toolbelt skills are not a replacement for missing out on the ability to slot utility skills. Elementalist attunements have cooldowns because their class functions in a completely different manner than the Engineer. You can not compare different professions like this.
You have to look at the Engineer and the Engineer alone when deciding how it would be balanced. For instance, IP being a passive and very effective burning application. This should be redesigned into a more active trait. The cooldown on kits, you can’t tell me why they should have cooldowns other than “because my character has a cooldown on weapon swaps.” It is the play style of the Engineer, it’s part of what makes them so flexible and fun to play. And this change will never be implemented. Ever. Period.

Moa vs Moa Morph Mesmers.
Mesmer lands a morph and expects the moa to run for his life or panic, only to have it come straight for him and finish him off.
Terror Necro > Engineer
Having a bunker build that deals damage by stacking might is in no way a bad thing. It is interesting game play, and encourages more diversity by making boon removal more valuable.
Also, Engi’s have never been “just a turret spec.” Ever. Turret builds are gimmicks that only work against unskilled players. Prior to celestial engi was the still-meta rabid condi engi. Celestial ammy didn’t bring engi into meta, it just made a might-stacking build more viable, as I already stated.
It has been made easier to obtain might stacks. Certain classes just need to have a decrease in blast finishers or fire fields. Cele is almost useless on some classes… it’s the stacking not the amulet. Sure people will still complain about Cele engis and eles sustaining too well while dealing damage but they won’t be hitting like mac trucks anymore.
Stacking might back then was just as easy as it is now. The stats from the celestial amulet are what has changed, and of course benefit actual hybrid builds more. And the last thing that needs to be nerfed is blasting fire fields. This is a form of actively building might stacks, rather than passively building might stacks every time I swap a kit or land a crit via sigils.

I wear one and I have never had it say a word once the match has started.
I’m perfectly ok with people thinking we’re op. Players hate getting beat, and need excuses, and it makes it easier for me to troll them. This is a discussion that obviously has no room for logic. People say us engineers are just defending our profession, but does anyone stop to think that maybe, just maybe, it’s because we’re the ones actually playing the profession and know what we’re talking about? !
lol. Anyone reading this?
Nope, you learn to filter these arguments while browsing these forums.
Players will defend their spec because KiTtEn with active play.
So no counter arguments, just two people that hate engineers agreeing with each other in a sad attempt to maintain ego. And as far as your active game play goes, how many times do engineers have to say that none of us like the IP trait and would love to see it changed? Again, logic falls on deaf ears to forum qq’ers.
For those that think might stacking is op, it hasn’t changed, at all. Might stacking was a thing before sigil/rune changes, using 2 of each might rune. What did change to make these builds more viable, was the cele amulet. Really, I’d be happy to see this thing go or nerfed so that people can move on find something new to qq about.

The only useless Engineer Elite is the Mortar. Thinking of a fun new Elite just for the hell of it is good and all, but we already have plenty of threads for that already open. So sorry if we get tired of seeing new ones pop up all the time. If you think you’re coming up with some unique suggestion no one has ever thought of that ever has a chance of making it into the game, then you’re posting in the wrong subforum. Also, Flesh Golem exisists, but can be killed by the enemy and thus goes on a cooldown, so in no way is it the same as a perma elite kit. And finally, what we need isn’t a new elite, but rather mortar be upgraded into a useful elite, and of course several threads exist on that subject as well.
Please don’t tell me this is another “Ranger op, what is reflect/dodge/skill” thread. >. <
I can never take a post seriously when all I see is “that class has this so my class should have it too! QQ”
Should there be changes to engineers to make them more useful in gvg and wvw zergs?Last week when a commander was splitting up the useful classes he finally got to engineers and rangers. “Re-roll” is what he said and honestly I cant blame him. This is not the first time ive heard this. Roaming is fine and ive done plenty of that but I would like to feel like im making more of an impact in wvw then flipping camps and random fights. Any thoughts on this or anyone experience something similar?
Sounds like you need to swap servers.
I actually think there is pretty decent balance among the classes right now.
- Warriors aren’t too bad anymore.
- Guardians are strong but not op.
- Rangers still need a bit more help, mainly in the pet department.
- Thieves and Mesmers can be devasting, but also have weaknesses to compensate.
- Necromancers still need work in sustain and minion ai.
- Everyone seems to focus their hate on Elementalists and Engineers, but this is mostly due to Celestial stats and no the classes themselves.
Hi frands, Teef Teef Teef Teef here, #Thief NA and world’s first Champion Shadow!
Key words: 1-1.5 years ago!
Wahoo! Bye Frands!
Vee Wee copycat? At least it’s a thief and not an engi.
This would be horrible. There is not much that can be done about imbalanced soloQ matches outside of more players, better matchmaking, and not allowing matches to start without 5 players on each team. The rest is just the risk you take doing soloQ instead of teamQ.
I’d say the best thing is to make one of each and test wardrobes as mentioned earlier.
nope.
speak after me: “let it goooooo….”
Shhhhhhhh.
Anyways, to look at the many suggestions already proposed on this topic, just do a google search for gw2 flamethrower retaliation and it will pull up a list of forum threads open on the topic if you click the see all button. It works much better than the forum search option.
Underwater the bomb auto attack is BY FAR the strongest, and also the strongest ingame. The windup time is very short under water, you feel like having quickness all the time. It’s insane, really. Grenades are only your ranged auto attack, since the harpoon gun aa almost heals your enemy … u.u But still, skill 3 (and 4 for single target) of the harpoon gun are both extremly strong. Especially 3 in melee, gosh, crits for like 15k sometimes.
You’re thinking of Harpoon Gun 2, not 3. But yeah, it is awesome.
Omg. I love how he put this post out there to inform others that are fighting Necros, and the post got moved to the Necro subforum where mostly only Necros will read it! This is so priceless! Lmao.
As for the runes, just pick another rune set if you can’t properly use vampire runes. It’s not like the mist form randomly happens. You KNOW it will happen at 25% health or whatever. If you fail to time your skills accordingly, then once again, that’s on you.
To be fair, vamp runes are the only ones with life steal procs in spvp.
Also, casting Consume Conditions takes ages. People have been downed from full health in that amount of time, so you really can’t always anticipate stuff like this.As for vampire runes. The 6th bonus must change.
Or better yet: bring Runes of Scavenging to spvp.
No, you can’t predict everything. but you can properly plan your skills to make the most use out of the rune set and its timing. Want to use the rune set? Then l2p with the rune set. It’s very simple really.
Katran, there is no bug, did you even read the posts?
Emapudapus, in every finisher with a banner coming out of the sky, that always signifies the spike. It is incredibly straightforward. Not to mention scarecrow temporary finishers are coming out of ToT bags like candy right now, plenty of chances to try it first. And finally the great power of a youtube search. Really, any amount of lifting a finger to check out that finisher before you purchased it would have been a dead give away.
As for the rune set, you don’t need perfect timing, you just need to be aware of what is going on and have some degree of skill. Anet owes you nothing, rune set is working as intended.
Does anyone google these topics or do a search in the slightest before opening up new threads?
I never ever ever tried toolkit underwater, but bomb and grenade kit decimate underwater
As already mentioned, grenade kit in no way decimates underwater. I myself normally run a Toolkit/Bombkit combo underwater and it works great.
Engineer with Mesmer clones.
Having issues there buddy?
Everyone can preview finishers before purchasing them. If you didn’t do that, then that is on you my friend.
Personally, I love the scarecrow finisher on my Sylvari Engi. Sure it gives away my stealth stomps, but I love the look and I have invuln stomps when I need them anyways.
As for the runes, just pick another rune set if you can’t properly use vampire runes. It’s not like the mist form randomly happens. You KNOW it will happen at 25% health or whatever. If you fail to time your skills accordingly, then once again, that’s on you.
Time to get a team together. Extra cash is always nice.
Creative idea, but 1v1 will never be truly balanced and this would be disastrous and spawn an entirely new wave of forum complaints. Besides, there are already measures in place to discourage zerging, such as the treb or skyhammer cannon. Not to mention a zerg can only hold one point at a time.

Either way, none of this matters. One of two things will happen. Either Engineer remains the same and and some other class gets buffed and becomes the target of hatred, or Engineers get nerfed in the areas people are complaining of, then buffed elsewhere to compensate and remain viable, and everyone finds something new with the engineer to complain about…
ENGI GADGETS BE OP!!!!!!! RABBLE RABBLE RABBLE!
- I have a bad habit of leveling characters and then deleting and restarting a character just because I don’t like a small detail in the way I created them. (Currently working on my 10th, and hopefully last and perfect, engineer.)
- For some reason I can’t resist the urge to troll in Hotjoins on occassion.
- Despite the changes to Skyhammer, I have still perfected a method to pull players to their death from stealth with my Engineer.
- I hate it when guys who play female characters hide behind some variant of the excuse “It’s so I can stare at a woman’s backside all day!” Video game backsides are in no way noticeable nor attractive.
- I recently joined a pug for story mode and then randomly started voting to kick people. To my surprise, all of my votes succeeded until there was just me and one other, at which point I left the party.
- I used to hate warriors and think they were OP, but now that I’ve switched from power engi to condi engi, I’m relieved when my opponent is a warrior and enjoy the easy kill. Necromancers are now OP and I hate them.
- I sometimes link my precursor at the end of big events just to relive the feeling of people’s awe.
- I enjoy interesting rp, but hate constantly running into lame love-story rp all the time.

Seems like a legit request.
What does the meta or being the meta have anything to do with a new profession?
We have 8 classes. If only 4 are useful, why add a 9th instead of making the other 4 useful?
Huh? Which 4 classes are useful? Would love to hear your answer.
For those commenting on Atherakhia’s post, I’m guessing it went completely over your heads. He wasn’t making a statement about the games current balance, he was elaborating on a previous comment by using a hypothetical example.
As for a new profession, no thanks. I’d rather see more diversity opened up on existing professions.
I’m pretty sure grenades underwater is the strongest aquatic damage possible. If I could use FT, I don’t see why Id ever use it over nades.
Only if they hit (which most of the time they don’t). Underwater the grenades go into seperate directions for no reason. Like 1 of your 3 grenades will actually hit and the others will go kitten off somewhere else. You have to be in melee range for the nades to even hit and even then you’re better off with the bomb kit in that case.
Even in melee range the chances of more than 1 grenade hitting the target is slim. I used a grenade barrage underwater in melee range and had only 1 grenade hit.
@ OP, For underwater, I’d highly recommend Bomb Kit as you main damage dealing kit underwater.
I ran triple kit p/s condi engi and had trouble sometimes as well. Then I swapped out Elixir Gun for Elixir S and had much better results. I think the difference for me was that I could finally escape from outnumbered fights, get to a safer spot, and attack from long range when needed. Also allows me to secure stomps or stall the fight until my next block or heal is ready.
I ran a build with thale trait and rune before and yes they do work together. So on heal you will get 6 stacks of might for yourself and your allies will get 3 stacks.
I’m with the whiners on this one. Halloween is my favorite holiday, and this was depressing to log in to.
To get a good idea of viable Engineer builds out there right now and how to play them, check out metabattle.com. Most of the builds that were mentioned are on that website along with the variations, and they are rated on how effective they are.
Wrong forum buddy.
Your feelings of superiority are wasted in such a tiny game. Small fish bros. Small fish.
Couldn’t like this quote more. There are so many other things to value in this world, it’s silly to place one’s performance in this game as a top priority. At the point where you’re comparing playing this game to being an athlete or a soldier, I think you’ve gone over the deep end.
Also, I never met Vee Wee, but I leveled a guardian named Savior Machine to 80 exclusively through PvE and he was the only person to recognize the name as a Bowie song title. I considered his posts one of the healthier aspects of a largely unhealthy community.
Just be glad you never met her in game. Exact opposite of this front she puts on for her forum personality.
Technically this same build can be achieved on any profession, seeing as how the only worthwhile leeches come from your gear. Kinda sad really.
