just get 5 engis together in a circle and everyone toss elixir s at the same time and note the amount of stealth received. I’m interested in knowing the results.
I’m going to have to try this out with Epidemic. I had been using Corrosive Poison Cloud in place of Spectral Walk.
On the bright side, Anet has announced that significant AI changes are in the works for HoT.
Shaogin, spectral traits have significant opportunity cost so I do not think of them as highly as you might. There is definitely a trade for DS and dps to use spectral traits and, without the traits, spectral skills are not attractive.
Traiting wells fits better for power builds than spectral and offers team support.
Overall, I feel like specral skills need one more little tweak for a bit more defense or offense to pay for the opportunity cost. Wall is kind of a one good trick pony but a lot of professions with similar skills have that problem. Walk or Armor are candidates for a tweak, imo.
Walk, because it can be made redundant by SoL or horn, may be the better candidate for an additional effect. Perhaps an effect that is only enabled by taking both spectral traits. The opposite of Taunt comes to mind.
Yeah and you have to spend 8 trait points into defensive lines just to get that measly 3 secs of Protection and leech 300 HPs on a 50 sec cooldown. And I’m talking about only adding 5 secs of projectile destruction to the base skill. Hardly OP. As for stacking effects on skills, one look at traited Steal and eh w/e. To get the maximum out of wells would require 12 pt investment. Two are defensive, one power based, and one condi based. I don’t really see the problem with WoD taking on this role. Unless you use condi Necro and would prefer CPC for biased reasons, then I could understand that and am fine with it. WoD just seems better thematically and it’s not very popular really.
It’s not about how much you have to trait for it, it’s about what you can get if you did trait for it. Sure it may not be practical, but the possibilities are still there. Taking Spectral skills may not be as popular in pve, but in pvp they are highly used. It would be over the top to add reflection to them from a pvp standpoint. Wells are in the same category, may not be practical to trait for, but you can. And wells currently see plenty of use in all game modes for Necros. The point is to stop overbuffing skills that already perform well and start making less valued skills more practical. And no Tman, I play power Necro.
CPC is so PvP and WvW focused that it would be nice to have some PvE-only use attached; some small modifier to Defiance, maybe. CPC is useful for mobs that heal but scepter is fine for single targets. This is what I meant by adding something to improve CPC sideways.
In that sense yeah, it’s a really nice idea. In terms of personal boosts, Spectral Armor seems bland enough to gain projectile block/reflect, potentially through a trait.
Spectral Armor gives Protection and amazing Life Force generation and can also Proc at 50% automatically if Traited. Projectile Reflection on top of that would make it an over-the-top defense utility that would become mandatory in every build. No Thanks.
my point is: instead of throwing more spectral traits at the game, i would prefer it if one of the two that already exist are changed to provide reflect.
No need to be mad. Also, you really didn’t make that clear. At all.
Actually he made it very clear.
Well of Darkness is a great candidate for projectile destruction IMHO. It would function much like Smoke Screen only as a different Combo Field. Also the size difference between the two skills is scaled pretty well by the difference in cooldowns as well. I think this would be a simple change that already has a similar skill currently so anyone trying to say ‘OP buff’ would sound silly. This skill needs some love. Necro needs some projectile defense. Make it happen Devs!
Traited Well of Darkness already provides AoE Blind, Protection, and Life Siphons. I just don’t like the idea of stacking effects upon effects on single skills just because.
The point is that Wall of Reflection is basically the same duration as CPC but only reflects. Buffing CPC to have reflect makes it literally better in every way. Projectile destruction is fine, but making CPC reflect is insane. Comparing an entire group of reflect builds to one skill doesn’t make any sense.
I think SWall reflecting is too much with how much the skill can already do as well. Destruction sure, but reflecting is a massive boost to an already pretty decent skill.
Actually I meant that buffing CPC for “uptime” is futile, as dedicated anti-projectile supports can already reach 100% easily.
Unless a single necro can hit >25% reflect uptime any buff will only be relevant for specific PvP abuses or as a QoL change. I’d rather see the necro find its own unique supportive style, rather than try (and fail) to stand alongside Guardian/Mesmer. Projectile destruction definitely wouldn’t be too strong per se, though.
CPC can be left as is, while simply adding projectile destruction. We don’t have to become specialists at projectile defense, we just could really use some due to our class mechanics. We purposely lack mobility and are meant to stay in the fight, but currently have no defense whatsoever against any ranged attacks. This change wouldn’t be abused in PvP or worthless in PvE, it would simply give us options to deal with certain situations without being op in any way.
A single Mesmer can reach 100% uptime with iWarden+Ether Signet+Phantasmal Haste.
3 Guardians/2 Guardians+1 Mesmer can reach 100% uptime without illusions, 2 Mesmers can do it if curtain reflect works for once. And that’s full reflection.
My thoughts exactly. Spectral skills already have enough going for them and don’t need more effects piled on top. Underused skills should instead be buffed, and CPC fits the theme of projectile destruction perfectly.
The problem is our spectral skills are already in a great place and adding reflects on top of that would be a bit over the top. Buffing skills that are not used to have added functionality that makes sense with the theme of the skill is a much better idea.
It is truly a fun class to play. But if you are really worried about not being “Meta” and thus not being allowed into speed dungeon runs or high tier fractals or tPvP, then I’d suggest playing something else. If you are just going to dungeons with accepting guildies or casual pugs and don’t expect to reach high tier pvp levels, then roll a Necro and enjoy.
On the bright side, for those gauntlet runs you can slot FitG and just stun break through all the cc. As for being insta-kicked due to being a Necro, I have never had this happen to me, not once. Are all of you playing on EU servers, cause this doesn’t seem to happen alot on NA servers.
Spectral Wall is already great as is. I’d rather see something like Corrosive Cloud destroy projectiles.
What time of day is every usually active. I’m normally on around 6-10pm CST and there are tons of people on but like only 4 or so repping.
I feel your pain, I’ve done this before at the worst times in a fight before. But still, I would never want to lose the ability to just flash DS for the procs, especially now with the new FitG changes. You just gotta learn to keep calm and only hit that key once.
I’ve never really felt a big imrpove on LF generation using Soul Marks. Granted I do mainly play power builds, but staff # 1 generates great LF from range, especially when firing it into the middle of a team fight. So since Staff Auto generates LF so great, I always just go with with Vital Persistence.
Soulraping is such a good trait line , too many good traits…
LOL that typo
How did that even make it past the kitten police? lol. I like it though, let’s rename that traitline now.
Yes I agree that outfits have a role, but when ALL new skins are outfits, it takes away from the feeling of customization in the game. If for every armor skin we are getting half a dozen new outfits…. well. You can see where that leads to.
I will never endorse getting rid of the outfits, but many of the outfits could easily be done as the armor skins.
Give us both please! This lack of customization that the Armor skins offers is disheartening. I for one, do not want my character looking like a recolour of everyone elses just to have some of the newer pieces.
considering the ratio of armour skins versus outfits available, I believe that outfits have a long way to go to catch up on the quantity. That and a lot of new armour skins are probably locked in the expansion :I
Exactly this, there isn’t much diversity in the outfits selection yet. Though of course I’m sure we all agree we still want new armor sets to be released along side of these outfits.
They both have different and equally valid roles.
Outfits are far more useful if you’re levelling, whereas you can mix and match parts of the armour sets with other pieces, so they’re more flexible.
I think, if they got rid of outfits, they would have to also make transmutation free while levelling, or something; as it is cost prohibitive to transmute everything, every few levels.
Agree with this. Outfits are very nice to have while leveling a new toon so you don’t look ridiculous in some of that low-tier armor in the process.
so I’m dumb, just spent 270G buying keys to try and get the SAB minis i need to make Super Assassin mini. I only got the Monkey which isn’t part of the recipe. That from 20 keys. Well played Anet…
They did say it was a “Rare” drop. Of course you wouldn’t get much with 20 keys.
Have faith. IT’S FINALLY GONNA HAPPEN!!!! SAB 2015!!!!!!
On a side note, browsing the forums at work here and bust out laughing seeing the pictures of SAB on fire. lol
The only downside I see to this is not being able to replay Arah Stoy Mode. Other than that, so glad I read this. Leveling up a new main and just started chapter 5, now I know to hold off my story until the changes come in.
Can’t say I’ve ever had it this bad. Usually if I know I’m being constantly focused and my team won’t communicate, I just make sure I run real close to as many team members as possible.
I can agree with the chill of death thing. Atm its a bit hectic, also not sure why a class with 2 hp bars really needs to hit for high damage.
Always love this two hp bar argument. The true sign of a player that is clueless to how the Necromancer works.
Bah. Just run up and Lich form his butt.

what is the point of this thread?

To express my feelings when I see threads like these and chat with others about how crazy they are. Been some funny posts in this thread….so…….why not? Not like anyone is forced to read this or comment on it. ; P

Also, how do you propose Anet make an animation for CoD proc. It’s based off the enemy’s health at the time the attack hits the target. It isn’t pre-determined before the attack is made. There is just no way to implement this without somehow nerfing the trait by changing the way it functions. Tells on automatic procs are great, but this will never work with on hit or on crit procs. And automatic procs are not going anywhere, and every class possesses them. You seem to think power necro is an easy class to play, yet you have no trouble beating them so looks like it must not be so easy to play one effectively. On the other hand if you are having trouble beating them, I can guarantee it is not the CoD proc winning the fights for them, it would be your lack of skill.
Lastly, it’s just annoying to see any Ele/Engi/War/Guard/Thief say anything demeaning about us lowly Necro/Mesmer/Rangers. Look at your own class before coming here telling us that ANYTHING on our classes need to be toned down.
The only passive thing is Renewing Stamina, you’re saying that ele should just camp one attunement in case he’ll get hit by a trait without any ways to avoid it. No, rest of the boons are gained by actively switching your attunements. It’s how the class works but your suggestion is not to play the class how it works but how one passive trait forces me. But hey this necro just did 4K damage without any skill or good game play and that’s fine.
Also, if someone is playing a mesmer, should they not shatter in case of getting hit by passive proc?
You can’t really compare passive damage procs and boons.
There is such a thing as letting boons fall off. You don’t need to hold back for long, just to let the proc be wasted. D/D builds don’t seem to have an issue with Chill of Death, interestingly (sure it hurts, but it’s not killing them), so this clearly isn’t a profession-wide problem.
Since you commented that you usually play Fresh Air ele, I counter with this: Why, when you are playing what is literally the squishiest build in the entire game, are you complaining about anything doing a large portion of your health in one hit?
Nope. Thieves can do that very well. I don’t complain because even though Steal is instant damage, you can at least predict the gameplay of the thief, he has to actively press his skills to do damage. People seem to missunderstood. I chose to play this spec, I like it. I know it’s very squishy and I’m gonna get hit hard BUT I do not like that I take this much damage from something that is just a trait wich requires no skilled play really.
To others: It’s not really hard to get a fresh air ele to 50% hp. It’s probably the easiest thing you can do in the game. Obsidian flesh 50 sec cd, Chill of Death 20.
Defend this passive kitten as much as you want, it’s still not ok.
You can predict when a thief is going to insta steal you better than a necro CoD? You are joking right? When you hit 50%, BAM necro CoD….That is VERY predictable lol. You can’t tell me you KNOW when a thief is going to steal and kitten you. Yes it is passive, but it is also VERY predictable. You hit 50%, it procs. Know the CD and then it will proc again if you are still below 50%….not hard.
You completely missed the whole point. The thief HAS TO PRESS HIS STEAL. The necro doesn’t. And yeah, the proc can come so fast you won’t even notice dropping to 50% hp. I don’t know, I usually watch my oponents, not constantly watch my hp if it already hit 50% or not, but I guess I should.
It’s a good idea to watch your health as well. Good to know when to GTFO, heal, or a lot of other things.
Heck, even a good idea to watch it for traits like Close to Death and Executioner, as that 20% damage boost can end you a lot faster than you thought.
I do agree with that, of course everyone does that. But do you honestly wait for the moment when you reach 50% of your hp? I don’t even know what’s the exact number. Do you know the number when you reach 50% of your hp?
I don’t know why people think that adding an animation to this trait is such a horrible idea. It would only improve the game play and the necro would have to try a bit harder, the spec is really easy to play already.
The Power Necro needs to have to try harder eh? The spec is just to easy to play eh? People will complain about just about anything these days. Necro in bad shape yet still we hear “NERF NECRO!!!!!!” Astounding. I only pray that Necro becomes a legitimately strong class one day. Then we can enjoy some time in the meta and call for nerfs on the remaining under-performing classes.
Funny troll thread. Lol.
There is literally no downside to the OP’s request though, so how about we not troll him? True it may not solve much, but it would be a nice implementation and it just makes sense.
On a side note, whenever I step into PvP I change my status to “invisible” which blocks all players from whispering me without me having to lift another finger. The downside of course being that it cuts off interaction with my guild during that time.
I’d be a human necromancer and keep to myself. Possibly robbing travelers as they pass by. As for the dragons, not my job. Let other people die fighting them. Seeing the Mordrem up close in real life would be some scary stuff.
I got Dawn while playing some Hotjoin from one of the reward track loot boxes. Sold it and bought the Hunter. Was a great day.
I’m all for counter play to marks, but leave the colors be. I love the style of those green marks.
Lol. If you like the game you must be fanbois. Forum trolls gonna troll, what can ya do? And sure the game has issues, never played a game that didn’t. Most the issues are greatly exaggerated by the kids that come here to cry every time something doesn’t go their way. ; P
Leafdrop you’re such an angry person. As for the topic, you can make your own builds and get creative and make them work. But of course if you suck at making builds and suck at pvp, that’s not Anet’s fault. So many bad players QQ’ing on forums here lately.
No. Just ignore these posters. Forum users consist of a minority of players, most of whom are just looking for something to complain about.
The only dungeon content you won’t be welcome in is uber serious speed run groups. And with all the balance changes incoming as well as new specializations, you really should just stick with the class you enjoy and make it work. I tried other classes cause the grass seemed greener, but always wind up coming back to my Necro.
Does it at least still break the stun? And why would other teleports work the same while stunned but not ours?
I think the new greatsword spec will be just right and highly used. As already stated, we are also getting other heal, utilities, and elite with this spec at minimum.
Probably a bug. Need to report it isn’t healing out of combat.
I noticed they didn’t include “except when used as a stun break” like they did on other stun break teleports that were changed. Does it currently not telport you now if you are stunned and flesh wurm is out of range?
I agree. With the changes to stability, it would be fitting for this trait to pulse 1 stack of 3 second stability every 3-5 seconds while in death shroud.
So if you get CC’ed 4 times within 3 seconds it actually takes effect? It’s essentially perma stab and a buff I would say
Yes, 3 stacks every 3 seconds would be a buff to our elite stability sources. Having stability stripped won’t be so devasting, and it will take a bit of focus to knock off the three stacks and cc us within the 3 seconds. Though in wvw zerg vs zerg encounters, we may be getting knocked around a bit more.
I can get my wife to translate later unless someone can knock it out sooner.
I don’t get it, did you people not use the coin? If so, how are you justifying getting a return on a used product?
If you go into an all you can eat restaurant, and they give you a wafer, then you would be justified in asking for a refund if the staff went out for a few hours instead of cooking any more food. While the term “infinite” was obviously to be understood in the context of “when its open”, there was also a reasonable expectation that SAB would actually be open at some time within six months to a year of purchase.
Nothing explicit was said, no explicit dates were given, but just as it is reasonable to expect food in a restaurant to come within an hour or so of ordering, it is reasonable to expect use from a product within a year or so of purchasing. At the very least an explanation and apology for the delay is expected. If after two hours of waiting in a restaurant the waiter refused to make eye contact or speak to you even though you had already paid, you’d be rightly angry. This is that, but after seventeen months.
The two don’t compare actually. You go into said restaurants with clear information on what you will be receiving. With SAB, the expectations it would be coming back at any certain time was based entirely on assumptions. I know they’ve already released statements saying that SAB is indeed coming back, just no set date yet. If everyone is seeking an apology that is one thing, but demanding a refund for a product they were able to use while SAB was present and will be able to use again when it returns just doesn’t make sense.
I don’t get it, did you people not use the coin? If so, how are you justifying getting a return on a used product?
Ready for it to come back? Hell I was never ready for it to leave. Don’t see why they couldn’t have kept this map as srictly hotjoin. Not like we don’t have other maps such as Skyhammer, the Courtyard, and Spirit Watch.
The only counter against that thief is Turret Engineer.
Way to sneak in that turret hate.
I thought this was common knowledge since game launch. Did everyone really not know?
Charr. Asura is focused on magitech, and the engineer’s tech is based on the Charr.
