The game run out of content when you are 80?

New content types don’t unlock when you hit 80. But you have dungeons, fractals, guild missions, achievements, collections. Even PvP and WvW can be started when you’re not 80.

This game is about choosing your own end game, instead of being thrown into a premade end game with a single path to advancement.

For example, if you want ascended gear, the only reliable way to get it is to craft. Some people try for a legendary. Some people try to unlock rare skins. Some people try to find and do every jumping puzzles.

Then there’s the Living Story which will continue when the expansion comes out.

There’s lots of stuff to do…but there’s nothing you have to do.

This is very true. I’ve been playing since launch and still have so many things I’ve never done in the game, mostly because I can never make up my mind and wind up deleting characters and starting over. I’m sure there are many who have done most of the content currently available.

However, most the people that complain about lack of content, when you ask them “Well hey have you done this yet?”, they respond along the lines of “No cause I don’t want to.” So the problem isn’t that there is a lack of content, it’s that players go in and rush through the content they like as fast as they can, and then neglect the rest of the content them come to the forums to complain.

This whole argument of other games giving you all this great content, that’s just the rose-colored glasses of nostalgia. I specifically remember WoW’s “content” being a new dungeon or raid that came out with a patch, that involved me grinding the same content over and over for months to get the gear needed just to be viable in that patch, and then everything I’d done being rendered useless when the next patch hits and starting over again. As far as repeating content, that is standard in EVERY MMO EVER! As far as being required to grind gear every patch just to keep up, that is a false sense of content and I’m glad that has no place in this game.

Finally, if you are one of those people claiming to have done literally EVERYTHING there is to do in this game and have nothing left, then yeah, dear god, you should definitely take a break and go get some air or something.

More damage with an icd is good too. But but but, imagine if they went with a percent of damage reflected back with no icd. Perfect counter for burst attacks of any kind, makes boon removal even more desirable (biased Necro here), and would punish bad players in some funny ways, such as the thief that spams heartseeker.

I’d rather retaliation deal a percentage of the attacker’s damage back to them.

Note that I say that as an Engineer main who is quite sick of knocking off half my own health from attacks like grenade barrage, fumigate and the flamethrower, so I may be biased a bit. (Deal 1000 damage to target 2-3x that to self. OUCH. Hit a group with retaliation and you can spike yourself thousands of damage)

On the other hand, it’s completely trivial for classes that can deal heavy single hits ,and as such, also makes it a worthless boon against many bosses and enemies. I think it’d be much more fair if retaliation was just as punishing to single heavy hits as to weak multi-hit attacks.

Arioso said it first and many posters below seem to agree. I think it is easy to see this would be the best and most reasonable change to Retaliation.

Pretty much this. As the elite stands now, it’d be a great elite for a reaper, wich would give human reapers an advantage over other reapers, which goes against the whole design philosophy of racial skills. So it only makes sense for Anet to nerf it.

Well there is one issue there, you take a serious hit on your vitality in exchange for that toughness. And with Death Shroud, you should be able to soak up most of that damage without the need for that extra toughness. Also, with Cavalier Amulet, where are you getting this 100% crit chance? Even going all in with spite and taking eagle runes and sigil of accuracy, you’re looking at 34% crit chance out of death shroud and 84% in it.

So as an end result, you are taking less vitality, less precision, and less power, and trading it off for a bit more ferocity and some toughness. And I can almost guarantee you that that Toughness isn’t playing a big factor in your survival against those thieves while in Death Shroud.

If you’re new to necro you might struggle with rangers spamming 2, but after a while killing them is the easyest thing you can do

Yeah, I guess I can understand getting jumped by one when you have 0 Life-Force and are taken by surprise…..but other than that you shouldn’t have many issues with Rangers. They are hardly in any way a hard-counter. Let’s see…..

  • Rapid Fire – This is often easy to predict as they’ll try to set you up for it first. Just dodge it.
  • Point Blank Shot – Annoying at most. Small window to dodge, but alone this skill isn’t a big deal. Most often followed by Rapid Fire, so even if it hits you just dodge right after.
  • Entangle – Easily countered by Dagger AA, Consume Condtions, dodging, Purtid Mark.
  • Wolf / Hound – Kill him if you want. His skills have a long cast time, noticeable animations, and are easy to dodge.
  • Distance – The basic Power Necro has access to chill, cripple, immobilize, swiftness, a gap closer, and 2 fears. Not to mention wells and marks can be cast at range, and we have Life Blast as well.

So not really sure where exactly people are having these issues with Rangers, especially to the extent where people are considering them a “hard-counter.”

No I agree with you there. Right now we just have fragmented glimpses of this new Profession of theirs. It’d be nice to see the whole picture. Would also be nice for them to open a Revenant sub-forum in the Professions Forums after doing such a reveal, and let all those future Revenants go crazy and theory craft for a while with their new found information.

Yeah not sure where the disconnect is. We already know what the Revenant looks like, it would be boring of the art team to just post yet another image of a Revenant. If they are deciding to focus only on revealing 1 other Legend the Revenant will channel this week, namely Ventari, it makes complete sense to show a teaser image of Ventari. It in no way means that the Revenant will shapeshift into Ventari, though I suppose that always is a possibilty.

But I get where you’re coming from as far as the reveals being slow and them dragging this out. But it makes sense, the Revenant is an entirely new profession with a mechanic unlike any other in the game so far, so I get the feeling Anet is just proud and showing off it’s new toy and trying to build up as much hype as possible for it.

Just going to put my vote in since there will be many “I told you so!” posts later this week.

I’d like to above all bet this has literally zilch to do with Rangers. I mean, come on, this should be obvious fact by now. Sit down Rangers and wait your turn.

With that said I’m going to place my bet on Revenant Legend. Those talking about grasping at straws, that’s just silly. Everyone is grasping at straws, and no one argument is more convincing than the next, unless you’re talking about druids, in which case you’re just flat out wrong.

. The reaper will have a trait that reduces the condition duration of movement conditions. This will become mandatory for all Pvp Reapers. The problem is that the trait is too week, Anybody with kiting skill, range and CC is going to destroy / hard counter reapers (even, for example, necromancers).

You do realise with this trait you can have -33~91% on movement impairing conditions depending on runes.
This means every second of chilled/cripple/ immobilise will last between 0.67 and 0.09 seconds.
Taking melendru runes means in shroud you are immune to movement impairing conditions and hoelbrak runes means they will almost instantly fall off you. Same outside of shroud they won’t stop you long if at all. I can’t say the trait is weak. If anything its extremely strong and it’s the strongest incarnation of its type of trait in the game others capping at 33%.

You can pretty much ignore Nekretaal. He hits up near about every necro thread spouting his pessimistic nonsense.

Wait for reaper to come out, it will solve all movement related issues with shroud knight, and the other conditions mostly boil down to health which is resolved by lifeforce.

Pretty much this. You’ll have a 66% reduction of movement impairing effects while in Reaper Shroud, and your Life Force will soak up the damaging conditions.

As for currently, You shouldn’t be in Death Shroud that much. Death Shroud works great if you use it to sustain your health and maintain offensive pressure while waiting for your cooldowns to become available again.

As for just staying in Death Shroud as long as possible, sounds like something that would fit a bunker build. Any chance you could elaborate more on your situation?

I think the DS1 is the hardest hitting for power necro. With %50 crit chance + %20 for fury, it is nearly perma crit, with some traits and protection, I have crazy damage in DS and tankiness but the moment I stay too long in DS I am condi bursted.

With protection, crits and spectral armor filling my life force I am nearly unkillable to direct damage but condi burst is kitten me.

You can actually put out more damage with your Dagger auto-attack. It just feels the other way around because you’re see one huge number splash on Life Blast instead of the multiple smaller splashes on the Dagger. Also you shouldn’t need the Furious Demise trait for the Fury on Death Shroud.

This is a basic power build for Necromancers.

With that build you have a 46% crit chance outside of Death Shroud, and 96% while in Death Shroud, which is more than enough. As long as you properly manage your time in and out of Death Shroud, and save Consume Conditions and Putrid Mark for the proper moments, you shouldn’t have much issues with conditions. And if conditions still give you that much trouble, you could consider taking an off-hand Dagger instead of Warhorn, but it is really not worth it.

If you don’t mind me asking, what build/set-up are you running?

Don’t count on Chill to give you anything for DPS.

Bosses (& WvW keep lords) are immune to chill.

Nobody said anything about Chill contributing to DPS, and this conversation isn’t being limited to Bosses. Not to mention the effects of chill on said bosses could very change come HoT.

I think i am just confused and misunderstanding / misusing the tool. I am sorry. I belive the point here is that in the end necros do less dps relatively speaking to other classes while also not bringing the utility others do.

Yeah, we’re all in agreement on the end result.

Short answer: No
More reasonable answer: No, it’s a waste of your time. Some people aren’t as gung-ho as the devs are hoping we’d be as it seemed like they put yet another band aid on the necro problem, fortunately it like this one’s going to stick. No, it’s not fear, but legitimate concern that it took a Specialization to fix a lot of the core issues, which are still there mind you. Note “core,” not Reaper.

To elaborate in case you were unable to comprehend, the reasoning behind my statement was despite the posts attempting to detail why we’re not be pigeon-holed, you simply threw up a post that did nothing but provide a basic answer that supported what you wanted to hear while providing no actual information supporting his answer and set it as the answer to this thread. Doing so gives the impression you are not looking for actual discussion, you just want to hear that the core spec is doomed and reaper is taking over, thus making this thread useless for the purpose of any sort of intellectual discussion on the topic.

So exactly what I said is correct. Good to know. Time to let useless thread die now. Buh-bye. ;P

Use your brain and create compositions which cover all required utility and buffs and then compare dps between those compositions. Thats the purpose of the calculator. Its a useful tool. It doesnt factor everything in. But it doesnt need to…

Its a tool to check the dps of your group. Its as simple as that. Its good at what it does. That might not be what you want. But thats your problem.

No, I understand what you’re saying, its just strange to use in a discussion like this when it counts differnt levels for personal might when in reality everyone would likely have 25 stacks. It counts differnt foods, when in reality most people all just use the same food. It may be a useful tool, but first off, its less than helpful here where you need either more controlled numbers, or to take real world norms into account. More over, it straight up doesnt matter since DPS isnt the main limiting factor.

So yes, it is not what I want or am looking for, and that may well be my problem.

It isn’t what you are looking for, it is your problem, it is however very much so what the OP was looking for. Therefore, what you are looking for or want is of literally 0 value to the purpose of this thread which is why you are getting such feedback.

This is know, our dps is subpar at best and groups don’t need boon stripping in pve, nor do our cc conditions work, nor do we have any fields, clears, etc. there is no point in pointing this out over and over again. 3 years we have been doing this and for 3 years the dev’s have stated we are fine, we are in a good place, we don’t want the necro to bring group support, or utilities, blah blah kittening blah.

It’s almost the same with reaper but we will be able to bring chill. Thus I hope that chill will actually affect and stick on the bosses because I’m tired of the majority of my utilities and conditions being useless in boss fights etc. without that, can someone tell me what reapers will bring to the group? Chill and some ice fields?

Chill, Ice Field, more blinding, increased dps. More importantly to keep an eye on is the reworks coming to blood magic trait line. Knowing Anet, it could wind up being negligible. If we do get a decent Vampiric Aura though thats grants life siphons to party members as well, then assuming the numbers are decent that means we would finally bring a unique form of damage boost and sustain to the group. Couple that with the possible higher damage of the Reaper Spec and the Chill it brings, and we may become a wanted member of a dungeon group, though I doubt it’ll make us part of any meta dungeon composition.

I’ve already read over that. The dps under 30s period was not stated. I still argue that sweet and spicy beans is an odd choice. The rotations arnt stated explicitcly, just referenced, etc. Blanket generic calculators are stupid.

It is however very well laid out, detailed information is also provided on a post on the site, and though outdated (july 2014 I believe) it provides the op with a decent understanding of where the Necromancer stands in terms of DPS like he asked.

Remember when you could still attack in lich form and not just constantly cced blinded and blocked.

It is nice however when Sigil of Rage procs while in Lich. So freakin beautiful.

I’m loving the Reaper. I feel it has a lot of potential for multiple builds. I do feel however that the Reaper spec is going to over-shadow the Necromancer core profession.

On a side note, I find Anet’s method very very funny. So many PvE players begging for the Necro to bring more support to a group, Anet responds by giving them the only shouts in the game that have 0 group support. I mean, I understand they didn’t design the Reaper to provide support in any way which is fine by me, just find it funny they did that.

Axe skill 1

I can understand people missing the great animation on an Asuran or Norn, but on Charr, Human, and Sylvari, the animation was god awful. Crazy flailing of the arm and what not.

Now the animation is worse for Asura and Norn, much better of Charr, and no idea bout Humans and Sylvari because, well, those two races are lame anyways. ;P

Necro downstate damage

Necro downstate definitely needs a nerf, only downstate attack that allows you to heal and do damage at the same time, while the #3 is hilarious with 4-5k AoE damage per second. Should also probably do something about the I Win Lich button that allows a necro to 1 shot entire teams, such an ez mode class.

Ah, the signs of a noob that needs to l2p.

Back on topic, yes Necro downstate is too strong now that they fixed all of our traits. Yes they are already fixing it. Yes it may take forever. Yes I take that trait in power build to laugh my kitten off while I can.

Just last night, took a thief from full health to down state, then killed him and rallied. Was hilarious.

Here’s a note for all the whiners in the meantime. If you don’t have an invuln stomp ready and you’re a total glass cannon, do not attempt to stomp. Just let him bleed out. Duh.

It’s been like this since release. I wouldn’t bother with such concerns.
Enjoy better resets and reset-able jumps in Jumping Puzzles or exploring areas no other profession has access to.

The Engineer’s Jump Shot is on a much lower cooldown and is a guaranteed successful jump instead of just a second chance. Just sayin…

It’s not just the Flesh Golem. I think a lot of skills should be given a function underwater.

-All minions
-All marks
-All wells
-Spectral Wall

I’d love to see marks, wells and walls be turned into an underwater sphere that you can pull enemies through, while retaining their original functionality.

Yeah…..you’re a little behind. There are no marks underwater due to no staff. All minions work underwater except for the one mentioned, flesh golem. All wells already work underwater.

So we’re looking at Flesh Golem and Spectral Wall.

I am starting to believe Engineer is getting Conjure from Elementalist.

That new Mad Scientist outfit is the clue of whats next. And it reminds me of a Alchemist which conjures stuff.

Giving conjures to a class that has kits, god what a horrible idea that would be. I’m starting to think people are just throwing out random utility types at this point. ;P

Hmmm, lemme try. Engineers are getting Banners, cause they have a hammer……and um……Warriors do too?

On the flip side, I often feel like Necromancers are the most realistic community. I don’t support moving away from that. It’s the reason I love most Necros and I stay away from thieves and Engineers. :P

Necromancers are indeed the most realistic . Give thieves an "I win " mechanic and they will tell you they need it because they are a squishy with no stab . This is the same for guardians and meditations , Engineer and IP etc , Ranger with Longbow + Read the wind , Shoutbows , Elementalist and Water Attunement + Arcana and go on . We are the only one who are screaming for the nerf of our class . We have been meta for 2-3 months in 3 years of game . I don’t know if Reaper is gonna be , but if it is , Necro community must not be one of these peoples screaming for nerfs . People are anticipating reapers bags simply because they are used that the necro is the easy kill / easy target / punching bag and don’t want that rule gone . In minds of people , necro is not and will never be powerful again since dhummfire era . It’s not about if nerfs are needed or not . It’s about defend our class with no objectivity and we should take examples on the thief community for this . They are meta since the start of the game and still if you come with the propositions of justified nerfs they will tell you to L2P and act like victims , and i respect them for that . Let’s not be masochist with our main class .

This isn’t true. Not sure why everyone constantly forgets that Engineers themselves do not like having to rely on IP the way they do, do not like the rng mechanic behind it, and have made many valid suggests on how to change IP. Yet for some reasons people are always casting stones at the Engineer over silly little IP, as if it’s the only rng proc in the game.

On Asura Necro the new Animation is a step back :-(
Normally there was a little jump on the AA if standing (not moving), now its just boring swing to right… swing to left… swing to right…

That is definitely sad to hear. Have Mesmers or Elementalists had their animations changed yet? Anyone know?

Awesome, always hated the weird flailing animation. I did however love the animation on my Asura and I really hope it doesn’t look horrible now.

Reaper will be awesome farming bags in Orr and events like Modnir.

The Necro is already great at farming bags. This will be no better, especially with slower attacks.

On the bright side.. Reaper made me take a second swing at rolling a Necro.

A scarey effin norn necro.

I’m on board with this. My human Necro has been shelved for some time. If this spec turns out to be interesting enough, especially because I love Chill as a condition, this might be enough to convince me to main my Necro again. But I’d re-roll him to Norn.

I see two sides to this. On one side, people feel Tomes are useless and would love to have them replaced, and of course they’d come back later in an Elite Spec. Cool.

On the other side, some people love the Tomes and wouldn’t like losing them. Anet says they would come back in an Elite Spec, but knowing Anet that could mean we’re looking at years before seeing the Elite Spec ever actually return. I’m sure by now we all understand the meaning of “soon.”

The post was addressed at the OP, who was effectively yelling about not being heard, when it’s possible that his entire list of “wants” is being addressed.

Also, how are we defining “viability” in PvE? I’m fairly certain Necromancers can tackle all of the PvE content in the game. Does every class need to be part of a speed-running record for there to be balance in a zerker-meta race where very specific tools yield the best results? I have a very difficult time faulting the Necromancer design for the shortcomings of PvE.

There are a lot of optimistic people around the Necromancer forums. There are a lot of people with really cool ideas that I like. That doesn’t mean the Veruca Salts should be allowed to run amok complaining about the unknown because they were never taught how to dream.

And as for ANet’s track record, in every other aspect of the game, Necros have either been hugely beneficial (WvW) or, from what I can tell, on the cusp of being in the meta (sPvP).

Sure, he may be pessimistic and whiny, but just as he should wait until today’s stream to start casting stones, so should others wait on the stream to start mocking the pessimists. That’s all. And yes, Necromancers have had a nice spot in the WvW meta. But Anet’s changes have constantly been hurting them in sPvP, and this still addresses nothing for the concerns of PvE players that rightfully feel that they bring nothing to group PvE content. An issue that has not been addressed, and sometimes inadvertently nerfed (Putrid Mark stealth nerf), for the past 3 years. I get that many don’t care about dungeons or PvE group content, but there are many more who do and have felt inadequate due to noticing they lack the damage and utility the meta professions provide or simply from trying to join a serious dungeon run only to get kicked simply for playing a Necromancer.
