Elementalist
The Dragonfly Effect [Phi]
Add there dumb protection and someone even more dumber will come.
This pretty much sums it up. This game is pretty fool-proof already, any more and it will only become redundant.
I keep setting goals for myself on what I want to do next. Just recently I finished putting together There with Yakkington: A Traveler’s tale. I currently am working on saving up for a Volcanus which I am going to put on my mesmer when hit hits 80/leveling my mesmer to 80.
I also took the time to go through southsun cove again and get all the title achievements for the living story event. Had a blast doing the crab toss game, hoping it stays permanently so I have something to do besides keg brawl as a mini game!
I hate jumping
Puzzle quest’s, fracts jumping, dungeon jumping, pvp jumping.
In gw1 we couldn’t jump, but now a-net adds it to gw2 and makes a huge huge deal about it, it is like they discovered the wheel.
A-net we get it we really do, we can jump in gw2 now /yey
enough already pls, pretty pls, pls with sugar on top.
GW1 people complained about not being able to jump. GW2 people complain about being able to jump.
Logic
First was when I got full zerker gear prior to transmutes, second is after I got the gear I wanted it to look like.
The Named set looks nice and dyes really well and I matched it to the Ebon Vanguard staff pretty well
I like the temporary content. It gives me something new to look forward to if I ever get bored with what I am doing now.
Ofcourse, it should go without saying I wouldn’t mind permanent content thrown in every now and then too, because I really enjoyed most of the temp content thats been put out.
I’ve actually ben the one to get more loot than others the past couple days. I’ve done maybe like 5 full fractal runs in the past week (5 sets of 3 plus a few jade maws) and I’ve walked away with ~20 rares after all of it. That’s more than I’ve gotten in the past 2 months.
I’ve worked pretty hard getting enough laurels for one of the ascended amulets and I know which type of stats I want, but I’m unsure of what infusion slot to go with.
I know the type of infusion slot limits the bonuses you can get, but I was wondering about the “utility” infusion slot. It seems like ascended amulets are the only ascended item that gives a utility slot. Is it worth picking up the utility amulet for the karma/magic find (or even gold from kills. lol -_-") infusions? I tried looking around on the wiki but I haven’t seen anything about the utility infusions being able to give agony resistance which seems like it might not be the best choice for the boosts they give.
Also, on a bit of a side note, do infusion slots function the same way as say rune slots or sigil slots? are you able to add an infusion over an existing (non-inherent) infusion?
Also being primarily a WvW player, it’s been one of the worst reward systems the game has to offer. There is no incentives other than the thrill of open world PvP. No one cares about the fight anymore if you’re not on a top tier server.
That’s it for my rant for now I guess, I’m just disappointed, and sick of how repetitive this game has gotten.
You mean people actually cared about the negligible bonuses from WvW in the first place?! Oh boy I sure can’t live without that +10% exp from KILLS, what would I do without that extra 10-20exp per kill?
I enjoy it. Staff ele has pretty decent group wide support, and supporting/healing is stuff I love to do in mmo’s. Currently running full zerk gear (planning on getting PTV ascended gear in the future). I have gotten really good at using earth 2 to combo for might/burst healing and it seems to be a good benefit to a group that might be struggling against a boss as well as a good steroid to groups that are already doing well.
So I’ve started to get a little more serious in what I do in the game. I’ve decided to take up fractals and see if I like the challenge at later levels.
I’ve decided on doing mainly Staff Elementalist for the majority of PvE. The one thing I’m kinda stuck at a crossroads for though is what my gear setup should be. My choices are:
The reason I am kinda stuck as to which setup I want to do is because I want sort of a mixed defense/offense setup, but I don’t know which of these setups would be better, or if they offer exactly the same stat totals.
Any insight as to what option I should go for would be greatly appreciated!
Swearing: When “gosh darn” and “meanie head” just won’t do.
i still say we should be able to contract Order NPC’s to fight with us in zones (excluding dungeons and fractals) for set amounts of time. Possibly even introduce a currency system unique to the orders so that you could do missions for the orders each day and spend it on gear/contracts for mercenaries
Yes, you can continue to use transmute crystals to transfer the look of an item onto newer gear.
It’s accountbound when you buy it, it becomes soulbound once you use it. So character A can buy it, put it in the bank for character B to pick up and use.
Thanks for your reply!
So if i use the backpack on my Straps which has no stats, and find a better back later on the game, i can transmutate the look of the quaggan to my new back gear?
At what level Back items are usable? I can’t find the search options for it in the trading
Then i’m gonna use it!
Back items are usable at any level so long as you have the appropriate leveled item (so far the only ones you get are level 30 something and level 80 form personal story and level 80 ones from fractals)
Guild Wars 1 is Guild Wars. Guild Wars 2 is Guild Missions 2.
You aren’t swapping weapons, so it shouldn’t proc. atleast i would think lich → normal shouldn’t count as a weapon swap.
They already did something like that, there’s an “unsuspicious rabbit” at mount maelstrom.
don’t follow it. following rabbits in GW has a history of resulting in bad things.
So long as we only have 1 good build we’re still bad. Nothing will change that except build diversity.
Go play warrior, easiest class in the game.
Seperate Bleedingstacks for each player would be everything I want.
I would love to see this, I don’t like how its possible for one person in full condition gear to not contribute as much due to his/her stacks being overwritten by other players with weaker stats.
We also experienced that. But in our case we do not only have warriors and guardians there but also some fire elementalists that are contributing their high dps.
I am not trying to get loot there with my mesmer anymore. ^^
Normally as a wellomancer you can get loot. (I am not talking about decent loot or high quality loot, but it is not as bad as with my mesmer)
But yeah.. however it’s getting worse.. maybe because people switch to their warriors and eles due to that issue and that makes it worse for the rest of us not farming with these classes. (Sometimes I do these events with my ele, but usually I’ll take my necro)Another observation we’ve made was that if we are only doing theses events together (two people), most of the time there will be just as little loot as in a really big group (let’s say 10+).
The best loot results are when doing these events with around 6 – 8 people. (I think, maybe the numbers are not correct)
On top of this, if we group up to five people, loot quantity and quality increases. And it also depends on how much people are there in total.Another problem is that most foes are dead before you can see them.^^
You try standing in a group of people, counting them, and if there are more than the “optimal” number of players, telling some to leave.
The amount of people there should make the event more difficult, as well as increase loot but it seems “more difficult” just means “more enemies with the same health” and better loot means whites and blues rather than grays and the seldom 2c here or there.
If you ask me, GW2 spirits should run on the same design as the guild wars 1 spirits, and then get their stats tweeked.
This would entail the following:
As for their effects, I like the fact each spirit has a passive and an active affect, but I feel the current ones do not really suit how spirits are right now. I believe their actives have a cast time and only affect an area around them. This is fine, but the thing is, if your spirit is casting a blind to hit the enemies around it…there is a good chance it’ll be dead before the cast ends.
A tweek i would like to see to spirits would be this:
(all these could potentially affect allies/enemies too, if that function of old spirit design was to be brought in)
These ideas could possibly make spirits much more useful and fun to have around.
Also, active effects could cause 1 of 2 things to happen to the spirit:
*All actives cause spirits to be weakened, causing the passive effect to be in-active while their ability is on cooldown
*Activating a spirits ability will cause it to forfeit its life in order to strengthen/add additional effects.
@Prufrock,
Lava is bugged I believe. Unfortunately they won’t be patching that part for a while.
I’m pretty sure something in the other days patch notes said something about if you die in a hazardous area your body is poofed to a safe nearby location for allies to rez you.
I have one question as well. Until today my highest fractal lvl was 18. I did a lvl 20 daily with my guild. We finished it, I received a daily chest. An hour ago I did lvl 6 with PUG. At the end I didn’t receive any daily chest. So my question is, do you only get one daily chest from now on?
Sadly but you can only receive one daily chest. That what happened to me too. It is making sense since they combined all level fractals into one big pool. If we can still receive daily in 10, 20, 30, 40, etc. then level 4 fractal can at least receive 4 daily rewards if completed all of those daily.
I see! But is there any official word about this? I don’t think I’ve seen it in the patch notes!
What time were you running? You might have finished the second dungeon after daily reset (7 or 8 pm EST i forget which) which would have caused you to get two daily reward chests in one day. I do the same thing with regular daily achieves since I have college all day.
I like dredge fractal, because it drops lots of loot bags.
What does this have anything to do with the fact the bosses in a hard fractal got buffed to make it harder?
I for one refuse to play a game in which two mechanics that aid each other in defeating the player exist simultaneously: repairs and res-rushing. Why would I want to enter any encounter in which I and mindfully aware of the fact i AM going to die 2+ times due to the way the fight works when I know I’ll have atleast a 10 silver repair bill on my hands afterward. The entire concept of res-rushing is just to make sure even the worst groups can do content if they can move fast enough.
Boss fights and certain dungeon objectives (for a prime example Magg’s bomb planting phase ugh) need to be hard, but not hard to the point where its just a mindless zergfest. Encounters need to have some form of strategy to defeating the boss other than the universal “dodge roll to solve all problems” or die rez die rez to solve what dodging cannot.
Stop crying about magic find. That person is still contributing damage you wouldn’t have had if you went in with 4 people. Damage is damage.
You have a waypoint pretty much every 50 feet. Mounts would really do nothing that these cannot already do. If you want to ride a mount from LA to Cursed Shore, be my guest and take a half hour to do so, I’ll just click the waypoint and spend 3 silver (something you can kill a couple of monsters to get) to get there instantly.
They already said they aren’t going to put mounts in the game because they feel it takes away from players enjoying the world around them.
One with combat that doesn’t consist of mindlessly blowing cooldowns, or one with boss encounters that aren’t just trash mobs with ridiculous health pools, or one with real PVE progression that’s an actual challenge.
You know, one not like Guild Wars 2.
I agree with this 100%. I literally hate trying to play this game in pve because its so faceroll easy. The only hard thing about this game is that it takes 2 mintues to kill anything that isn’t a boss. Even then it isn’t hard, just annoying as hell. Hopefully their PVE Content changes in January/Feb/March will change it so it is both more fun and challenging and maybe even give us gear progression other than 5 fractal dungeons for ascended gear.
Hmm… So WoW also isn’t real MMO because I’m most certainly playing that game this way.
You probably don’t play WoW to the extend of end-game raiding. Most encounters have a good deal of mechanics you need to pay attention for rather than “Oh look red circle on ground, I should dodge roll”.

Combo fields are based on (in the case of most rangers) an arrow flying through a field of fire/static/water etc. to cause a secondary effect such as burning stun or water droplets of healing. The fields it interacts with can actually modify the arrow (fire field sets it on fire etc.).
If the viper trap was to get a combo added to it, the combo would be that your target is hit with a limp dead snake, because if an arrow was to hit a snake… that’s what would happen.
The entirety of the skill would have to be changed to give it a combo field other than adds 1 dead snake to your attack.
I am looking forward to possibly some kind of player to player transaction like in GW1 or a COD system for mail. would make trading with strangers much easier.
80 Ranger
109 deaths, 513 hours = .212 deaths/hour
Call me the odd one out, but I actually enjoy farming.
I have a particularly stressful life outside of the internet, there are many things I do to deal with it, but possibly my favorite one is beating the living daylights out of every monster I see, even if I don’t get great items I still have fun doing it.
I’ll give you an example from back in GW1 days.
In GW1 we had several tedious tasks to get titles, one of the harder ones being Cartographer. It required you to literally uncover all “fog” from the world map. Sometimes you would get to about 99.8% and only have these skimpy little sections hardly noticeable to reveal.
This is where we used a 3rd party program, it was called TexMod. It allowed you to basically make a layer on top of the in-game map showing the fully explored world compared to your exploration, making it much easier. Although I think there were 2 versions of texmod, one that was allowed and one that wasn’t due to the way it edited files or something? But you get the point: Tools that don’t give you any unfair advantage over someone else who isn’t using them shouldn’t get you banned. (tex mod was completely client sided and affected no one but yourself)
Get magic find gear for farming. Everyone says it is garbage, but when farming it helps immensely.
My friend and I both run durable warriors that use Magic find gear. We usually never die and still put out decent damage.
I fail to see how I hinder any group if I still do damage. It would be a hindrance to my group if I stood there and did nothing, or was just not there at all as I am contributing damage that they normally wouldn’t have had.
This game isn’t about how fast we can run dungeons, atleast it shouldn’t be. It isn’t about who has the highest DPS, either. Everyone is free to play their own way, discriminating against any specific player for playing something you see “unviable” is stupid and selfish. Every other person that plays this game has the same right to have fun in their way as you, stop acting like you are better than everyone else.
Yes gw2lfg is good, but why dont people use gw2’s lfg system? Its their type /lfg and its essentially the same thing.
There is one major problem with GW2 in-game lfg system. ALl it does is give a blue square. If it let you put in what you want to do, then it would be worth using.
1: You have 4 alts worth of inventory space
2: You can create multiple private guilds that can give you inventory space
3: They just added in a lot of other collection stuff.
Considering one of the ways the make money and stay in business is selling inventory space I’d say they are generous as it is.
Creating Multiple guild doesn’t solve the token issue. You can’t put account bound items into a guild vault.
I think we should look at what they are used for rahter than their drop rates.
Items that create items that are highly desired obviously cost more than those that do not/
Could agree with you but I can’t see why you would focus your eyes on the mini instead of the battle during a fight.
I belive that as soon they start implementing their minigames properly you will be able to use the minis for polymock.
Considering the main source of miniatures is through gems, I’m not sure how I’d feel about that. The only minis i have are the HoM ones + wintersday ones (wasn’t lucky enough to get minis from halloween)
What if copper pickaxes were no longer account bound?
Joke on how people can post buy/sell offers for account bound items on the TP.
Anet should add a pokemon like battle system for minis, just throwin it out there…
Well, there is a disabled Asuran gate in Rata Sum that seems like it’ll be used for Polymock sometime in a future update. For those unfamiliar, Polymock was a GW1 style battle similar to Pokemon.
Ugg, polymock was terrible, nothing like pokemon. I hated that “game”. but just how many more ppl would flock to GW2 if they added a pokemon element to the game, or something like the FF8 card game, that would be so cool. Or a full on casino, i’d like to see any of those.
The thing about polymock was it was more strategy and thinking than actually battling. You just had to think about/find out about the weaknesses of the opposing NPC’s pieces, and the order they would play them in and counter them.
On topic:
I did notice on the map that there was a polymock arena at the top right of Rata Sum. I would enjoy it if they put it in, the game needs more mini-games to take away from some of the grind or regular things. I’m pretty sure the only mini-games we have are costume brawls (only during holidays) and that Norn keg football like game in hoelbrak (i’m not even sure if it is still in the game since I never see anyone playing).
You might have no patched from Friday’s late-ish patch
I get like 2-3 every month, and I play as little as nine hours some weeks. Some people just have terrible luck.
You are either:
A) Running Magic Find Gear, which increases your odds at rolling on the key’s table
B) Buying the keys through in-game gold→gem conversion
C) Lying.
The GW2 website and forums follow our color and design principles, so there isn’t much that we could be doing without changing a lot of things around.
Thanks for your feedback.
Look, I’m all for sticking to design and color schemes, its just the forums are really, really bland. Other than names and the very top of the forums, everything is solid black/white. Would it be possible for more themes to be made to accompany this as the default?
I’m about 90% sure you shouldn’t be able to get your pet inside a keep where you yourself cannot enter. I can see it getting out via the portal doors, but I do not believe it should be able to get in through doors you do not control.
Actually, Mesmer illusions, Thieves guild, etc. all can get up on top of walls from outside, as I recall. So, the way I see it, it’s fair game until they fix NPCs in general.
I can’t count the number of times a mesmer outside has sent clones on me while I’m on a wall, or sent them up top to attack cannons, etc.
Ah, must have to do with the pathing glitches where like a pet can get onto a ledge by walking up an area you normally cannot.
just run around with a bow, grabbing marksman and wilderness traits for toughness and power, then when you max those start going into vitality for solo’ing.
Exploring really is the quickest way of leveling, most of it you’ll end up having to do by yourself more now than you used to because everyone is always in cursed shore/fotm/exp dungeons farming.
Yes, though I have been playing since beta’s and I’ve gotten 1 key.
I’m about 90% sure you shouldn’t be able to get your pet inside a keep where you yourself cannot enter. I can see it getting out via the portal doors, but I do not believe it should be able to get in through doors you do not control.
Also, for reference, I did read your post, I’m just a “bunker guardian” and I’m sad to see you go because I make you rage.
I don’t even know how people get thousands of gold. Either there is some completely obvious way I am just not seeing or there is something else going on. I spent literally a week trying to sit there and farm events or t6 crafting materials and I just can’t do it because of how awful it is, so I resort to doing dungeons because those are atleast somewhat fun.
