The Dragonfly Effect [Phi]
I’d rather have lag then the worst performance to dollar ratio in a game ever.
2500k 4.5Ghz with a GTX 690 gives me 25-35 fps in LA. Oh boy……
lol. I get 25-30 fps with a GT 520 and a intel core 2 quad. significantly worse than your setup.
They should have made a RL griffon plushy!
It would go great with my Rylock plushD I am sure many others would agree too!
I bought my friend the Digital Deluxe upgrade for an early christmas present.
When he was going on about the story, mainly when he said the game doesn’t give insight on to why Rytlock and Logan don’t like each other, you only really find out little smittens about it, but you get the whole picture through the Edge of Destiny book.
if you place the trap under a target that isn’t hostile/hasn’t spawned yet, it doesn’t trigger if they spawn on top of it rather than near it and walking over it. I agree, it is annoying and should probably be updated.
You do realize you can drop a field that removes conditions, heals, gives you regen and stays there for 30s (meaning all you have to do is leap through it to heal, walk over it to remove conditions/get regeneration).
can step on it for condition removal and leap through it to heal themselves, it’s CD and heal+regen makes it EASILY the best heal a ranger has. In any scenario. Period.
Healing spring does remove conditions and provide regeneration, but you need to be standing in it to get those effects.
Let me quote GW2W: "The direct heal and condition removal only occur upon activation. "

Healing spring removes one condition upon activation, and an additional condition with each pulse of regeneration.
Please don’t spread information on how things work when you don’t even know how they work.
Wiki says it doesn’t, and I’ve never seen it remove any condition after the initial activation. The conditions are being removed from you in some other way.

Hey guys! Ofcourse we are doing better! This patch was a buff what do you think happens when something gets buffed? That it does worse?
Pure damage ranger builds should be fairly obvious I would think.
)
Utilities:
Sig of the Hunt – Nothing gets away from you, more damage can be done.
Sharpened Edges – 5 stacks of bleed, free damage.
Quickening Zephyr – Should be obvious why.
Rampage as One – Should also be obvious why.Pros:
Tons of Might = Tons of damage
Cons:
Nothing because you are doing tons of damage.
Is this all theory ? It definetly isn’t in my game experience.
I adjusted your statement to reflect a better truth value. Just because you haven’t done it, doesn’t mean it isn’t in the game.
I run this build on my ranger in Zerker’s armor for single target boss fights. It works well, save for a few minor changes between encounters (such as utilities).
To clarify why I use Signet of the Hunt: Since it was buffed I found it allows me to get out of most dangerous AOE’s without having to dodge roll, which allows me to make use of Marksmanship’s trait 1, 10% increased damage when endurance is full.

Pure damage ranger builds should be fairly obvious I would think.
Traits:
30 Marks: I, VII, XII
30 Skirm: II, X, XII
10 Wilderness: III
0 in everything else because no damage.
Armor: Zerker’s hands down.
Runes: 6/6 Runes of Strength (over the Fire and Hoelbrak because 6th one gives +5 damage while under effects of might boon)
Weapons:
Shortbow:
Power/Prec/Crit.D.
Superior Sigil of Strength
Longbow:
Power/Prec/Crit.D.
Superior Sigil of Bloodlust (or get another superior sigil of strength and run with another weapon in your bag to swap to to get 25 stacks then trade it out for the longbow)
Utilities:
Sig of the Hunt – Nothing gets away from you, more damage can be done.
Sharpened Edges – 5 stacks of bleed, free damage.
Quickening Zephyr – Should be obvious why.
Rampage as One – Should also be obvious why.
Pet:
Jungle Stalker – F2 grants 5 stacks of might.

Note: listed stats may not be right on there, I can’t figure out why it won’t let me do PvE accessories instead of just sticking my with a PvP amulet, plus you are missing 70 precision because it doesn’t assume you are in combat (70 precision from marks trait, gives about 3-4% crit chance.)
Pros:
Tons of Might = Tons of damage
Cons:
Nothing because you are doing tons of damage.
I was playing a ranger for over 2 months when i decided to reroll a warrior at the previous patch and I have been playing warrior for a month now i think. The 2 classes are geared a bit differently, so I don’t know how fair this comparison really is.
Ranger 20/25/10/0/15 … The gear she is wearing is full power/prec/crit.
Warrior 20/0/20/30/0 … warrior wearing power/prec cit on all except helm,shoulders/legs, boots, gloves which are power/toughness/vitality. I use the rune of the soldier to remove conditions as well, which is an additional dps loss.
Damage comparison. Ranged damage is horrible on my warrior the ranger can easily do twice the damage without the pet,, maybe 3 times if the pet stays alive. The ranged damage of the ranger is similar to the mellee damage of the warrior because even if the warrior attacks for less, he hits so rapidly that he makes up for that loss. If the warrior uses greatsword, the dps is clearly greater than the ranger, no doubt about that.
Let me deal with this little bit of your post for now.
You are comparing Warrior and Ranger damage. Great! We need some actual proof as to which is better. However, to do this you need to gear them exactly the same. Trying to compare a damage Warrior with 5/6 of its armor set not being Berserkers to a Ranger with 6/6 Berserker’s, doesn’t really mean anything as the Ranger should clearly do more damage. Now if I understood what I bolded in the quote wrong, I apologize and please correct me.
Also, as for the rest of your post, you also cannot compare Ranger and Warrior support based on the two given examples (which I don’t know if you are or not), for the same reasons I just mentioned above, the same with survivability.
I don’t know, maybe I’m just not understanding something but I don’t think this comparison is really equal in terms of testing environment.
Fern Wolf: Red X I I I, Obstructed
Brown Bear: Little Bear, Scrufflebutt
The sigils don’t have an effect of how you can combine items in the MF. Although, I’d probably hold off until after you make eternity because what ever the default sigil is for eternity, i have a feeling thats the one you end up with, so you could lose other sigils you put in before.
Don’t look at the speed of which the arrow flies, look at the path which it takes. The arc it takes is much lower for short bows, almost straight even.
This patch fixes quite a lot of issues most rangers (including myself) found extremely annoying.
Bows seem to hit more now, I haven’t seen much “miss” or “out of range” (although obstructed is still there a bit, oh well but one thing at a time right?)
Pet builds will now do much better than they have before with the rate pets can hit now. I never realized how much damage could be done with specifically focusing on the pet until now. I might make another set of armor/weapons to run beast master now.
Overall I’m pretty happy with what you guys have done this patch. Relax and kick back for a little while, job well done.
With trasmutations higher level gear getting less revealing than lower level gear shouldn’t really be an issue.. just transmute the gear to that look.
But new armor that covers almost nothing would be cool too, i guess.
My bet is on traps being made usable underwater and Ink Blast gets a smoke field.
They are preparing us for the Ranger only attack on Bubbles.
Can someone tell me when we’ve been nerfed? Because I’ve only seen buffs to ranger other then, you know, making shortbow not ridiculously OP.
How exactly was shortbow ridiculously OP compared to weapons every other class has?
A no cd autoattack, which, combined with 6s of quickness (QZ + pet swap), did an absurd amount of dps (both direct and condition).
1. Condition only applies if we hit you from the side or behind.
2. 0 cd auto attack!? No way! I didn’t know we were the only class that had one.
3. Warrior Rifle with Frenzy had pretty much the same effect that Ranger with shortbow had, although with slightly higher damage, a longer (unconditional) bleed and a slightly longer attackspeed. I don’t see how ranger shortbow is more OP than that.
When ever I join a group for fractals on my ranger I tend to see “Oh a ranger… that’s cool I guess.”
I don’t run any Marskmanship traits, but this is a very nice fix certainly.
But why the heck is this not mentioned in the patch notes? Fixing an entire 3 minor traits (and apparently one major trait as well) is hardly something that should go unmentioned.
They probably didn’t even know they fixed it.
None of the above is true.
All traps except the flame trap persist for a good long time. You do not need to stay in range of them once placed either. I run a ranged trap build and this is absolutely unquestionable. While it is true that you will see the trap teleport to your location when it is triggered, this is a bug (which works as a nice alarm feature) – it is in fact activated at the original location, applying all effects and damage, as intended.
I am not sure how ignorant you are, but just in case I went and tested them all again just to be certain I was informing this player correctly. The frost, fire, and poison trap will all teleport without hitting their initial tick, whereas the spike trap will apply its full effect when you take the throw trap talents. Please do not provide incorrect information to new players. I will agree that the fire trap duration is much shorter than the others which was interesting to know. If you are unable to properly test this yourself I can upload a video as proof of this, but I would rather not because upload speed is not my friend.
edit – added a video anyway.

This is the first time I am noticing this. Was this new to this patch? I remember doing sPvP/WvW a little while ago and being able to drop traps somewhere and have them still work correctly without doing this.
The fully upgraded fractal capacitor has light effects.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Fractal_Capacitor_%28Infused%29
does it give light in the dark? or don’t you know that? btw, is that the one you can buy at the vender for 1350?
The one you buy is the base one, you use a gift of ascension + some other stuff and you make a capacitor with an innate 5 agony resistance with a new open infusion slot.
Calling them out will do nothing but get your thread locked/deleted dude.
Also, the problem could be more complicated than just one or two little code fixes. Since you have no clue as to the severity of the situation on Arena Net’s end, you have no weight to pull in commanding them to fix it.
On the thread title — I would love to get some bank space back from storing dungeon tokens. I can’t bring myself to trash them, just for space, yet they only stack to 250 and they don’t intermingle.
I’d think instead of combining them all together, let’s add “currency” slots. Like we have karma, glory, and gold, let’s store the dungeon currency in a similar manner to gold.
re the trolling rant:
Don’t PUG. Almost everyone at this stage of the game who’s looking for a PUG, it’s cuz they either suck at the game or suck at social skills. gw2lfg.com is as sad as craigslist personals, doncha think? If you’re interested in a particular dungeon, find others who are, too. Make friends, make plans, make your runs.
I pug because I can. Skill level has nothing to do with it. Every time I pug a dungeon, kitten gets done with little to no problems. Seems to me like you just get mad because you don’t teach pugs how to do something when they do it wrong.
As for main post, I get what you are saying, but I think that would only be a good idea if the fractals were themed based on the other dungeons. For instance, if they had a fractal with undead in it, maybe there could be a chance for Arah tokens, or in the lava one with the grawl a chance for COF tokens? Not sure, but there might need to be some work done to get it passable.
First off, this isn’t even a bug so it is in the wrong section.
Mate I ain’t threatening to quit, I already did 1 day after the incident.
Second, not to be rude, but then why are you still here whining about it? They already said there is a policy against restoring lost/deleted items. Plus its only 10 jugs of karma, that isn’t even a lot. Go farm in Cursed Shore for a day and you’ll make quite a bit.
Raging because they won’t return items to you that you may or may not have even had is pointless.
It is possible that at original character creation the game randomized the glow intensity putting it as low as it could be, which would result in not having a glow effect at all.
Just wanted to point out that when I go to use the Total make over kit on my sylvari, when I try and change the glow, nothing shows up. I’ve tried toggling the lightning, all it does is darken it, the glow doesn’t show. I’ve fiddled with the glow intensity and still nothing.
I’m happy I had an open character slot, got to go to character creation and look at the glows and how they affect each hairstyle, or I’d end up sending in a ticket asking for the gems back or waiting for a fix to use it.
Glad to see these finally hit the shelves of the BLTC, though. Now all we need is name changes!
Keep in mind these tests are against enemies that are standing perfectly still, where as in actual PvE/PvP this does not happen at all and pets are easily shut down by moving targets.
IIRC, opening strike only works up to a certain range… and it might only work on auto-attack or something dumb also.
Range is 900 or closer. 9/10 axe auto attacks will cause vulnerability. However, with proper traits it doesn’t refresh on kill properly and pets seem to never apply it.
Lightning Reflexes needs to break you out of Immobilizes too, that’s all I have to say about this skill.
This. most immobilize moves are just roots, with proper movement it would be easy to free yourself out of one.
It depends. There are times where it can come in handy and times where its kinda useless.
To hit some good times to use it:
Around large groups of mobs, just target 1 central target and run around in a circle pressing 1.
In dungeons where bosses have things that buff them (i.e. path 1 HOTW or path 1 COF) piercing arrows is good so you can target the boss and stand behind the object and hit both.
But like I said there are bad times to use it that would make the other only useful trait at 20 marksman more worth it (the +70 precision buff):
Monsters that are really spread out
Single boss fights that do not tend to spawn help
I personally have 20 marksman for the precision buff (gives about 4% crit chance at level 80) because it helps my build more than hitting 1 or 2 more targets would with piercing arrows, but what it really just boils down to is positioning.
Even at level 61 your damage isn’t high because you don’t have the best gear available. With a full glass cannon build stacking crit damage and power etc., at level 80 our damage isn’t the best but its far better than what you think the limit is at level 60.
However most of ranger damage from ranged weapons isn’t merely auto attacks, as most of the short bow damage comes from conditions. while longbow might have better damage, you have to stand at absolute max range or you get penalized, and you also have a terribly long casting auto attack.
Until all our supposed updates are put in over the next 2 months (assuming 1 balance patch a month) I’d say it would probably be better to not focus on crit damage builds with a shortbow because Quickening Zephyr doesn’t help the auto attack speed much (reduces it by about 1/4 rather than 1/2), but don’t let me stop you from doing it if large single target numbers are what you are after.
Just going to throw out what im currently running to give you and idea as to another approach you might be able to take:
Gear is based around Rampagers armor and Coral accessories (power/precision/condition damage),
I talent in to:
20 power (mainly for the 70 precision buff in the second tier)
30 precision (dem trap talents are pretty nice)
and finally 20 toughness (gives toughness/condition damage plus some OK traits)
My runes are 5/6 Afflicted (woulda gone 6/6 but death nova on down is kinda silly since you shouldn’t be in range to get hit by mobs and since you are constantly positioning for shortbow bleed AOE’s shouldn’t really hit you.) and 1 of the nobility runes for 10% magic find for the lulz.
Weapons I mainly use short bow with a superior earth sigil, but on my swap i have an axe and warhorn with superior earth sigil and a superior sigil of corruption (i stack it to 25 then only use the weapon set when warhorn skill 5 comes up for the fury).
My auto attack damage isn’t anything to be proud of, I mostly hit for 500-600 crits (about 65% crit chance) but the bleeding is what really makes the build hurt in pve, it does over 110 damage per tick and I can easily maintain about 8-9 (about 880-1000 damage every second) or more if i get lucky with sigil procs.
stop treating Anet like 3 nerds stuck in a basement working 24 hour days for our MMO’ing pleasures.
Actually making the classes better apparently only requires 2 arena net employees.
And the only reason the Ranger’s are kittening is because we were told the ranger update would make things like shouts spirits and other utility skills be more appealing to use. +10% chance for spirit to proc a 10% damage boost for 2 seconds on a 10 second cooldown when it still gets one-shot by rabbits does not make me want to use the skill more, at all. We got the shaft in Guild Wars 1, and we are getting it here in Guild Wars 2 as well. We pretty much have every reason to be angry.
Guys, guys guys.
Didn’t he basically implied in his post that he would release the upgrades on rangers in parts?
While we work hard to keep updates going on all professions, not very build us going to contain fixes for everyone due to the nature of software development. One problem with rangers is the lack of build diversity created by a number of sub par utility skills. Many signets, a shout or two, and spirits are all a bit lackluster. That is the first place to expect improvements. Second is trying to improve the feel/ pacing on some weapons.
Unless they did all the changes they thought was necessary in this one patch, wouldn’t they eventually release more fixes and buffs to ranger on next balance patch?
If we only get one balance patch per month, and we only get measly changes like these in them, how long until all the changes are implemented? 2 months? 3? 6?
i tested spirits, theyre still terrible.
I didn’t even need to test them to find this out. You can tell just by knowing what they were and what they are now that the buff was pointless.
Unless they make spirits tanky or completely change the way they support players, they will never be good.
April Fools 2013 came earlier this year.
But seriously, these changes are stupid. we got shafted again while other classes got more attention. please go make rangers and play them. you’ll see that you need more than 2 people working on every class.
We don’t want tidbits of information, we want to know why there are 2 people working on class balances and why Warriors and Engineers and nearly every other class got some significant changes while all we got was Harpoon damage increased by 50%.
My expectations of them fixing our utility skills was NOT a 10% increase in chance for a 100hp spirit to give me 2 seconds of +10% damage.
35% or 50% chance to trigger is still bullkitten when they can get one shot by a rabbit.
I’m disappointed ArenaNet. You buff our underwater skills and barely make a change to anything else other than random bug fixes. A good 80% of this game is land combat, 5% is water combat in HotW, and the other 15% is because I was swimming through water and a monster pulled me down.
We kinda wanted change to, you know, our terrible signets, ridiculous pet AI, and other utility skills. Not to mention Quickening Zephyr only reducing the cast time of Crossfire by 1/4th instead of 1/2 like it should.
I’m really disappointed.
Hi
I’ve notice sometimes when I open the crafting window that the different sections are sometimes in a different order than they were before, making it kind of confusing. Also, I think the order the sections are in could be rearranged and made permanent (so they don’t randomly reorder):
1. Refining section
2. Insignia (or the wooden dowel things like in Huntsman etc.) section
3. Item component section (like the shoulder pad and the shoulder guard or whatever)
4+. Individual armor/weapon sections
I think this would clean up the interface a bit but I’m not sure how it would work out for chef it is the one profession I haven’t looked into too much and seems like it has a lot of different recipes.
Sylvari Ranger
Arah Helm
Crafted exotic shoulders (unseen due to chest armor)
CoF Chest
HotW Gloves
Crafted Exotic Pants
CM Boots
Mystic Crescent short bow (mystic forge bow)
@Nismu, I haven’t gotten that far on my ele, it is only level 7.
Also, the Pvp Hawk Staff and the Pvp Fire staff look really nice. I’m going to try and see if I can find them.
Edit: I found the Hawk one. It turns out the PvE version is the Ebon Vanguard Staff. I’ll have to get one and transmute it over to an exotic staff later on. Can’t find the fire one.
(edited by ShinraGuardian.8053)
Ok, i’ll do that tomorrow I am about to head off to bed atm.
Hi GD!
I picked up elementalist and I have a future set all picked out for when I get it to 80, however the only thing I am missing is a neat looking staff to go with it.
I attached a screenshot of what the set looks like, its the CoF hat and gloves, Arah shoulders and chest and the hotw legs and boots, but I can’t find a staff that looks nice with it
If anyone has some neat looking staves, can you attach a picture to your post with what it looks like and where I can find it?
Thanks!
While I wouldn’t mind this, it is way too easy to get around. Using simple brackets or parentheses, symbols that represent letters, etc. would easily defeat it unless the system was far more advanced to pick up on them.
For instance I’ll use your example: buygoldderp.com would be easy to change to buygoldderp.c0m or buygoldderp [ . ] c0m, among other things. While they aren’t exactly the website, it gets the point across fairly well.
Another downside would be for innocent players just exchanging links to things like Teamspeak/Ventrilo/Mumble or guild websites. Since these would have www., .com, .net, etc., it could prove to be an issue there as well.
On Kaineng we can not even get some of the hearts done cause of these people that are manipulating the game. There are usually anywhere from 20-30 hackers in our WvW as well. As have said in other posts, my enjoyment of the game is going downhill fast with the sheer number of these hackers. Live players should be able to do something to help eliminate these hacker rather than just report them. Why not a trip command that can put them infront of a dragon or another mob that could kill these hackers. I have seen the same three hackers running the same route fer the past three days in Mount Maelstrom and they are obvious too. All end the name the sameway. How are these hackers getting all of these accounts? How about adding in a security code we have to manually enter each we log in to eliminate these hackers?
You are confusing “hacking” with “botting”.
Also, as for a way for players to take action against hackers/botters other than reporting, there is no guarantee it won’t be abused to all hell.
As for a security code, if you mean like the Blizzard Authenticator system, I believe Anet has one in beta that people are already using via smartphone/iphone/android. I think you can do it via email too, but depending how safe your email is compared to your phone, I’m not sure doing it through email would be any help.
These are what I think are coming:
1. Spirits get more HP and a constant effect (same and weaker or different)
2. Pets and Spirits take 50% damage from AOE attacks. This would make them more durable in dungeons and general use due to the large amount of these types of attacks.
3. General Pet AI clean up, maybe attack move?
4. Signet of the Hunt (the one with a foot on it?) speed bonus increased to that of similar signets of other classes such as the Thief.
5. Quickening Zephyr will function correctly with the Shortbow.
That’s about all I can poke at, I never use shouts so I wouldn’t know how good/bad they currently are and I believe traps are currently in a good spot if you spec into them.

To everyone who is saying that the f2 skill should activate where the pet is, either I wasn’t clear, or you just read what you wanted to read.
I said my pet is on avoid combat. as in should be standing next to me. When I press a skill, it then runs a mile before actually using the skill. It should just use the skill, but it doesn’t.
Please read next time.

I’ve been noticing that when I have my pet on avoid combat (in dungeons with mass aoe) and I tell it to use its F2 skill (primarily brown bear and the fern hound) it runs toward my target before activating the skill, like its trying to get in range of the enemy to use an allied condition removal skill on it.
This is really annoying because most of the time I use the skill, the pet runs out of range of me and I do not get the benefit. I assume this happens with all pets that do not have an attack skill for their F2.
The pet is supposed to be MY companion, I shouldn’t have to miss out on effects that others get from MY pet simply because I am at max range and my pet decides to try and buff the enemy.
Rampager:
Precision , Condition, Toughness
Rampager’s is power precision condition.
Also, I’d say Axe/Torch is better. Warhorn for running around, torch for burning and fire field.
I’m just going to wait for the Ranger patch to fix some of our bugs and or buff other less appealing skills.
Because if they deliver, I can’t wait to see all these people that are saying “omg ranger sux nao im’a make a war because OP” come back.
Please remove this thread its not a true statement just another troll.
My invinci-ranger would like to have a word. You can be very hard to kill as a ranger if you trait and gear the right way.
