WvW Titles/Rank/Skills & Multiple Characters

Plenty of tears in this thread.
Seems like a good system to me.
Why should an alt character who has never stepped foot in WvW have the ultimate title and the upgrades of something another character accomplished?

Why should this set of achievements / unlocks be character bound when others arent ?

There’s really no logical rationale behind this and it only goes to isolate and dived the WvW community and Professions Utilized in it.

Ever wonder why you see far less engines / rangers / warriors in WvW ?
Cause everything they can do others can do infinity better.

I don’t wonder that because all classes can use siege the same.

Right, well you got me. I forgot WvW is all about PvDoor and Siege. /sarcasm.

Lets test this theory… which one on a Siege weapon last longer through damage….
A) Guardian
B) Engineer
…. yeah right everything B can do, A can do better.

Um probably a guardian. I don’t play either class so I don’t know for certain.
Not sure how it applies to the WvW changes though.
Play a guardian I guess if you want to sit on siege and take as much damage as possible?

each class has ranged weapons, use them if needed.
If you don’t have any ranged weapons on you, and you’re going to a fight that requires ranged weapons, whose fault is that?

Of course the enemy is going to take advantageous positions for easy kills and maximum griefing. If it’s really so bothersome, don’t do it until your server has control of the area.
The 14 badges or so you get can be much more easily attained by rolling with the Zerg taking towers and keeps.

Guaranteed rare chest in cursed shore?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

People keep saying these events aren’t guaranteed rares. I’ve done between 200-300 of these events since the February patch and am 100% getting at least one rare out of the chests. Maybe it’s not the case for everyone, but it’s probably close enough to 100% to consider it a guarantee to get a rare. Not getting a rare would be shocking.

Alright…

Yes there is a chest that gives guaranteed rares. It’s about 3 feet from the giant chest that Rotbeard pops out of.
It’s in the lower galley of the giant ship in the south part of cursed shore.
Tip: don’t open the giant chest in the middle of the room. Rotbeard pops out.

This game is very alt unfriendsy.

I reccomend you just run a main with maybe a single other char and wait for Anet to hopefully make it more alt friendly.

Not really.
If your only definition of alt-friendly is “getting ascended gear in a timely fashion” then I suppose I would agree with you.
But since getting ascended gear on all characters isn’t really all that important…
It’s not hard to gear out all characters in exotics, and get a few of them into ascended every few months.
What’s the hurry really? On a tight schedule?

If you WvW it’s important to have competitive gear. 10% stat difference and up to 20% performance difference is fairly large. Easily make the difference between killing and dying.

For PvE… doesn’t matter… but a decent group can beat the vast majority of PvE in rares without much issue… so I don’t really include that in my thoughts about this subject.

I wouldn’t mind ascended if there were just more ways of obtaining it. I don’t like fractals… so I’m limited to the laurels which is very slow.

On top of that my build on any character could easily get nerfed. I can’t do anything with the old ascended gear… so I would have to start all over on whichever gets nerfed whenever. The more alts, the higher the chances of a nerf to one of them.

In WvW how often are fights fair?
And who cares if they’re fair.
It’s designed to be unbalanced.
WvW isn’t about 1v1 anyways.

If it’s important enough to you, use your character that’s in ascended gear in WvW until you get your other characters decked out?
You’re basing your argument on “maybe my character will get nerfed, so make ascended gear easy to acquire so I can pretend to be balanced on an alt character in an unbalanced gamemode”

With the imbalances wouldn’t it behoove you to at least be on par with your opponents gear wise? My alts can’t be because of how one can currently obtain ascended gear. That makes me want to roll fewer alts. Sorry if you don’t like WvW… but that’s the only reason many people play still this game. I sPvP as well btw ^^

So put your ascended gear on the character you WvW with mostly?
This sounds like a ‘you’ problem.

So your argument against my thoughts about how this game discourages people to have alts… is that I shouldn’t want to be able to be as competitive with alts in WvW? Wat?

You mostly WvW, WvW is important to you, you claim to need to be ‘on par’ with other people in WvW for ‘balance’ reasons…
And you go and put ascended trinkets on characters you don’t WvW with and you complain about your alts not having ascended gear for WvW.

What???

Golem Mark II Pre-event suggestion/problem

in Suggestions

Shonie.5297

I arrived at the golem mark II Pre-event earlier tonight, the one where you get 15 minutes to disable some toxic materials while fighting off the asura inquest guys.
I got there pretty early, with maybe 10-11 minutes left in the event, and someone who arrived before me had run around and trolled the event by activating all the cannisters I guess they’re called and not defending them from the inquest.
So with 10 minutes left in event, nobody who showed up could do anything but wait for the timer to tick down to fail since the cannisters can I guess only be activated once per event.
So I guess my suggestion would be to have the cannisters of toxins be able to be activated/defended more than once per event to avoid people simply running around and activating them all at once to ruin the event.

If they are just moving the guaranteed rare to anther chest. Then you only get that rare once a day.

The event chest will not included the guaranteed rare, but will still have a chance rares dropping.

What ever the your loot is now in the event chest. Subtract one rare from each chest. Then add one rare to the total for the day.

Why so complicated?
Guaranteed rare per event per day is now account-bound instead of character-bound.
Martin’s post was perfectly clear.

This is a good change.
I have 3 80’s. Literally all I was doing was farming the big events all day.
With the new change we’ll still get plenty of rares… Let’s count…
1. Shatterer
2. Tequatl
3. Jormag
4. Maw
5. Shadow Behemoth
6. Fire Elemental
7. Golem
8. Jungle Wurm
9. Free Harathi chest
10. Free Cursed Shore chest

Right there that’s still at least 10+ rares per day just on those events. That’s 70+ rares per week just for doing the events listed. There are others as well but these are the easiest 10.
I think we can all live with this.

I’ve found the krait event in the asura lab by Tequatl to be impossible for me to solo. With one other person it is very very difficult. I usually skip it while waiting on Teq if there aren’t least 3 or 4 people. Maybe the krait are just designed to be tougher. It’s all good.

Far as I am concerned, if a player from the particular world which the dragon event is on joins the area, a guest should be removed. First in, first out.

For someone to be a ‘guest’, there is usually an ‘invitation’. Noone invited these people onto the other servers.

Riiight… do you even realize the amount of complaining that would occur if that happened.
You realize that people from your own server are off guesting on other servers as well right? The population at the events won’t change, they may actually be worse since it’ll actually be more difficult to do the events at times that are convenient for you with the ability to guest.
People will show up at events even earlier because without guesting, they lose 66% of the ability to do the event when they want.
What I’ve found to be successful is to do the easier and more frequent events like Maw and Fire Elemental and dailies during primetime when it’s busy, and do the other events in offhours when the gameworld isn’t so populated.

It annoys me when you think items that you can’t get should be easier to get because you are such a noob. If these items were cheaper, everyone would have them which would mean no one would care about them, also it is nice to have something to work for once 80…not play for a couple of weeks and you have everything already.

I’d rather play for fun. Grinding for stats is not fun.

How is playing the game grinding?
In your version, everything in this game is a grind.
Killing x amount of enemies for achievements is a grind. Doing dailies is a grind. Killing anything is a grind, logging in is a grind, having to right click on items to deposit them in the bank is a grind.
Seriously, I fear the day ANet releases content that is actually difficult and time consuming to complete. People will lose their minds.

An MMO without progression would be awful.
Why do you think so many people left the game in Sept/Oct?
They had their character(s) decked out in exotic, had experienced most of the content, and there was nothing left to work towards.
As much as I like the DE’s, they’re only fun for so long doing the same thing over and over. Players need new things to do, and new goals to achieve. A player without goals is a player who doesn’t play.
Longterm gated goals are excellent in keeping players around, it’s been proven time and again in games. If exotic was as good as it ever got, how many would keep playing this game further into this year and beyond?
For skins? Please, that was an interesting attempt, but a goal that the majority of a player base finds secondary to progression in this genre.

The dailies are clearly meant to show people different sides of the game. Many newer players, as well as some older ones don’t know or understand many aspects of this game or genre. Some probably aren’t even aware food exists, so a daily like this introduces that.
It’s optional. You have to only pick like 5 out of 9 things to do for the daily, it’s seriously not very difficult if you choose to do it at all.
Definitely not worth complaining about anyways.

Guests get kicked to overflow, when people from the home server log on.—Make it so Anet.

Just show up to the event early, you have dragon timers. Use them. For all you know it isn’t guests, there’s enough people on many many servers to cause an overflow in a region without guests there. Dragon chests are worth it, so tons of people are going to show up. They aren’t getting rid of guesting, they aren’t going to punish guesters, so you might as well just show up early for your own good.

If you can only play an hour a day… then guesting is great, you can choose the server with the event that you want to play in that one hour.
Yeah, and then when everyone starts doing that we’re back to the original problem.

No chests for guests. Go back to your home server.

What problem? People showing up early? If you care about the event you’ll show up early, if you don’t you won’t. Punishing a guest for making preparations for the event is silly and selfish. Simple as that.

Please reread my post and try again. Second, server natives are already being stuck in overflows, unable to participate in events thanks to guesters. So take your pick: Punish guesters or punish people who’ve been on the server since launch.

Well server natives are probably not being stuck in overflows thanks to guesters. How do you base such a claim? Do you ask every single player at the event if they are guesters? Are you a wizard?

Let’s be a little bit realistic here, Vince. Dragon chest loot is now valuable, and most servers have more than enough native population to force an overflow for a region. That’s probably what’s happening.

If I had to pick on who to punish, I would punish the players who are careless and don’t prepare for the event.

The logic is simple, if you want to do the event, you will prepare and show up early. If you don’t show up early, you don’t care enough about the event. If there’s a 1 hour queue for an event then that’s something ANet should have to deal with in regards to server capacity because that’s ridiculous, but punishing a player for making preparations is a terrible gesture no matter who you are.

Actually the logic of “showing up early” isn’t that simple. What if someone only has an hour to log in that day? They have to sit camping a dragon for 50 min, kill it, and log off? This is the casual man’s MMO. People shouldn’t have to sit around for hours of the CHANCE at a world boss. If I wanted to wait in line, I’d go the the DMV.

Grind does not mean simple repitition, Grind specifically refers to content padding by leaving gaps within content that can only be reasonably approached by low-reward repeated behaviours.

But.
The fundamental problem is that some kind of gating must exist in order for a MMO to work, to not create major gaps between players and make content last longer.
If there is no gating, players will naturally grind what they need in the least amount of

this is not true since the time gating is actually making it impossible for new players to get to where old players are no matter how much they play.

Merits - two guild bounties in a row

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Shonie.5297

Shonie.5297

Has anyone tried running two Tier 1 Guild Bounty events in a week? Our guild spans the entire globe, so to give as many folks as possible a chance to participate, we will be doing 2 or more Guild Bounty events in a week.

Originally, we assumed the 15 Merits from the first run of a T1 Bounty would add to 10 Merits from a second run of a T1 Bounty (we knew we’d ‘lose’ 5 doing it that way, but didn’t worry that much about it).

However, now I’m wondering if you can’t stack two T1’s together to max. Anyone know the answer?

I’m also going with the assumption that a player who does T1 on Sunday, say, then joins us for a T2 on Wednesday will not get the Bounty reward the second time, since they’ve already done a Bounty event (albeit T1) in the same week?

The maximum weekly amount of Guild Merits that a guild can get from Guild bounties are equal to Guild Merits rewarded for the 1st successful try of the highest tiered Guild Mission, accordingly to the following equation : G.Merits = 10 + 5 x T (where T is the tier of the bounty)

But what this person is saying completely contradicts what you are saying…..

No. To get the full 25 for the week, you have to complete Tier 3. If you have done Tier 1, you get 15 merits. If you then go complete Tier 2, you will get 5 merits, totaling 20. If you then finish Tier 3, you’ll get another 5.

If you do Tier 1 then Tier 3, you will get 15, then 10. If you do Tier 2 then Tier 3, you will get 20, then 5.

Just tested with my guild less than an hour ago.

Complete tier 1 bounty = 15 merits per week
Complete tier 2 bounty = 20 merits per week
Complete tier 3 bounty = 25 merits per week

Complete tier 1 bounty 4 million times in one week = 15 merits.
Complete tier 1 bounty 4 million times and tier 2 bounty once in a week = 20 merits.
The highest tier your guild completes, that’s how many merits the guild gets.
I’m not really sure why people are creating fancy math equations for this, it’s pretty simple.

Ok… so we won’t play FFXI. And we’re not playing FFXI. So that’s settled.

We’re not complaining about ‘everything in the game.’ I’ve posted in one topic before this (I wanted to see what others thought of Trahearne, & learned that my own reaction was mild in comparison) This subject worries me, not just because of guild missions, but because of the game’s direction. Given that GW2 didn’t present itself as the heir to WoW or FFXI, I’d rather have a say before they make a shift.

As for playing like the content isn’t there, no. I’m already taking great joy in helping guilds find their targets. If the fight is there, I’ll happily help. But I will also continue to ask for Guild Mission content that my small guild can do.

They aren’t “making a shift”… they’re simply adding some larger group content for guilds to optionally do. They also added a new sPvP map. Should I be disgusted that the focus of this game is on structured PvP? Or would that be ‘blowing it out of proportion’?

So -if Guild Missions were expanded to allow something for small guilds to do – how exactly is that ‘trivializing’ the large-scale bounties?

What if they offered a single guild bounty hunt worth 5 guild merits that is achievable by a small group and only offers 1 personal commendation?
You’re still looking at12 weeks for enough commendations for an earring and many more weeks to use the guild merits on upgrades. That wouldn’t trivialize larger group effort and is a compromise for smaller groups. It’s just a suggestion on my part.
There really does need to be incentives for group content in MMO’s, it’s always been that way. These games are always more fun when you get out and meet some new people in the gameworld. Honestly, we all share a common passion for the genre so we at least have that much in common. It’s not like everyone you run into is the anti-you out to ruin your experience.

The question still has not been answered. What does it take away from or “hurt” a large guild if small guilds can do SOMETHING too?

It takes away the MMO. It takes away the accomplishment of many people working together to accomplish a goal or task. If that isn’t something that appeals to you I’m not sure why you play the genre. One thing (guild missions) out of everything you can do in this game doesn’t conform to your small guild and you act as if your sky is falling.

That still does not answer the question. HOW does it take anything away? The large guild still exists. The large content can still exist. The only thing that is added, is a smaller group can do it too.

Again, how does that take anything away?

Is there even any reasoning with you?
I look back to my 6 years playing FFXI and remember nothing of value could be accomplished without large group effort. Threads like this and posters like you would be laughed out of the forums. Fast forward a few years and all of a sudden people think it’s legitimate to complain about everything they don’t like in a game as if it’s somehow possible to please millions of people in the same game. As if all content is amazing for every gamer out there.
It’s pretty simple really, either do the content or don’t. If there’s content you want to do and there’s prerequisites for the content (having enough people), then get enough people. The devs clearly wanted to add larger group content to the game. If you don’t want to do it, then don’t. Go on playing like the content isn’t there and if you feel you need the earrings, save up your laurels and ectos.

Having just tried a T1 bounty with my small guild. We had about 5 people for this. Don’t even bother unless there are people on the map willing to help you.

You can see in any guide that there are 15 targets to cover. Of course there’s a problem there if you did it with 5 people. Why not just rep a big guild and still hang with your buddies?

Why should we have to? This is the question everyone’s asking. Why did Anet make content exclusively for large guilds without a single thought for the small guilds made up of local friends and family? Is it so wrong for us to enjoy hanging out with people we know IRL and want content to do with them?

Because it’s larger scale content. I know it sounds strange, but many people like large scale content in MMO’s. Does everything in the game need to cater to incredibly small groups of people? What does the game currently offer for challenge to larger guilds? Absolutely nothing aside from guild missions. What’s achievable by a 5 person guild is meaningless to a larger guild. It would be too easy and rather boring.
If you’re so stubborn not to want to enjoy the content with a larger group of people, then go about getting your earrings with laurels and ectos. But don’t trivialize the content just because you don’t want to play with anyone outside your 5 person circle of trust.

It’s fine if they want to create content for huge groups of people. The problem is they advertised it for the generic term: guilds. Guilds come in all shapes and sizes. Since they did not specify large guilds it was assumed that the content was for all guilds, which is clearly not the case at this moment in time. Had they created and stated that the content was specifically for large guilds, it would have been assumed that content was coming for smaller guilds as well. Despite the fact that this content seems to have been solely created with large guilds in mind, there does not seem to be any plans for small-guild-oriented content.
The out-cry here is for Anet to be honest with us. If they only mean to create content for large guilds, they need to tell us so that the rest of us can stop wasting time in a game that is not meant for us. If they mean to create content or fix the current content for small guilds they should say that so that we can stop flooding the forums with questions and wait patiently.

In addition, I have no desire to trivialize content. Nor do I wish to take away the content from large guilds. I don’t think it would be hard to make it available to smaller guilds as well. If they scaled down the influence cost based on membership or scaled up the influence gain based on membership it would solve the initial problem of accessing it. Then, if they used their dynamic event scaling methods on the content (again, based on membership) it would also allow us to complete it. The two goals don’t have to be mutually exclusive.

Lastly, there is no reason for you to be sarcastic and snippy. You are entitled to play the way you want to and your opinion and everyone else is entitled to the same. I merely questioned his assumption that large guilds were the only way to participate when Anet has not stated that. They advertised from the beginning that they wanted us to be able to ‘play the way we want.’ If that is true, then there should be no issue with us wanting to play content with a small guild.

If everything is scaled to accommodate the size of your guild, and content is done as easily in groups of 2 or 3 as it is with 30 or 40… then what is the point of guilds in the first place? I’m sorry this content doesn’t conform to the way you want it to work without the smallest bit of effort.

It’s your own preconceived notions about large groups and your inability or unwillingness to join that is the problem.
A little bit of research into joining a guild will go a long way. I did before launch and am currently in a wonderful and helpful guild full of great people. We finished bounty tier 3 earlier this evening and had a great time.

I’m sure if I had joined just any random guild spamming chat with recruitments, yes I suppose i’d be rolling the dice. A little effort and research goes a long ways. But in the end, it’s a YOU problem that is not enabling anyone from joining a good larger guild.

What is this venom for small guilds?

I have had experience dealing with/being in large guilds to know they are not for me. I fail to understand how a small guild wanting to see game content takes anything away or hurts you (large guilds) in anyway.

There seems to be this odd, childish…glee in doing something someone else can’t. Like a small child enjoying taking away something from someone else.

Simply because someone else can get a “shiny” does not make yours any less special.

People in small guilds are NOT saying “We can’t do this so NO ONE should.” We are simply asking that these things be accessible to all play styles…as Anet advertised. We are not trying to take anything away from anyone. We want to work just as everyone else. We are just asking for the chance.

It takes a stunning lack of empathy to not understand that people get different things out of playing. Some people are more extravert (outwardly social) and others are more reserved. Some of us have dealt enough with large guilds to know it doesn’t work for our play style. It is remarkably self focused to assume everyone enjoys the same thing.

It’s meant to be larger scale content meant for more people.
It’s not big guild versus small guild. It’s just easier for larger guilds to co-ordinate people.
There’s nothing stopping any small guild from recruiting other small guilds to help them with the content in exchange for the help in return when they can unlock the content.
Will it be harder to co-ordinate? Probably. But not impossible. You’re basically asking for handouts at the moment because your guild is too small. Why should 100/200/300 person guilds suffer through painfully easy content simply to make 5 person guilds feel relevant. If it remains your choice to remain in extremely small groups for larger group content, I feel like you should have to give a little.
You can even get the rewards for the content without doing the content through laurels and ectos, it’ll just take a little longer.
The complaints are rather ridiculous to be honest and it reeks of entitlement.
It’s an MMO.

I kind of agree it’s a cool thing. Usually I’m so busy playing the game pushing a million buttons a minute, there was never any time to chat with guildies. Now while waiting on some windows, I actually get a chance to chill out and relax a bit and not always be immersed in a battle with something as it’s generally impossible to run around or do anything without drawing aggro. Reminds me of FFXI HNM windows. At least we’re not battling other guilds for the claim in GW2, that would be a nightmare

because you’re just posting opinion and it’s hard to take what you’re saying seriously as anything other than whining.

Really?
The complaints in this thread are pathetic.
Unless the game literally tells you by smacking you in the face where the target is with a giant 500 foot tall neon pink arrow, and the target mob is solo-able by a single level 5 character, I feel most people have the need to whine and cry.
Seriously… is pressing ‘G’, click on upgrades, click on missions so hard that people are unwilling to even press one key stroke, and 2 mouse clicks to access content?
It’s really sad, the timers and the clues are the actual challenge. L2P

When do Guild Mission Weeklies Reset?

Could aNet spoonfeed us all the info… maybe…
Is it difficult for the community to get the information by playing the game for a week and gathering the info by ourselves… not really.
It’s not like it’ll be more than a few days before all the info is on the wiki.
I kinda miss the days of gaming where people had to struggle and figure out how to beat bosses and figure out puzzles on their own.
Nowadays the first sign of difficulty or any speed bump on the way to clearing content as fast as possible is met with online step by step guides and YouTube videos.
And people really get upset with ANet when they don’t give up to the minute details of everything in the game? Just play the game and have fun. It’s honestly not an exercise in maximizing efficiency.

You know, I have to wonder if they’ll tack on the guild merit requirements to every guild thing they add after this to keep them “useful”.

Small guilds will love it if guild halls come out and we can’t build them due to not having enough people to run the merit missions.

One would then wonder why such a small group requires a guild hall. It would be like building a YMCA for a family of 4.
Maybe you can build a guild tent or something =)

Congrats! Our guild (eMoa) has done T1 and T2 now, we’re gonna do T3 tonight probably :-) We had Tarban aswell in T2, killed her with like 50 people, kitten kept putting stacks of 22 confusion on us XD

You get 25 merits from it, it’s not cumulative so you need to do T3 to get the full 25 merits, you can’t do T1 2 times for 15 points each.
And no, you can only get 2 commendations a week from bounty’s, doesn’t matter which tier and you only have to kill one boss.

A previous poster made claims to having 4 commendations, I’m assuming they must be daily.
If it is indeed weekly, when is the weekly reset?

There is no grind at all, you don’t need to even do dailies.
3 monthlies will get you an ascended amulet.
FoTM will get you the ascended rings.
Guild missions will get you ascended earrings.
Is this the grind people are complaining about?
Seems pretty non-grindy to me.
Do most people even know what MMO grind is? I feel they don’t.
To play a game like FFXI if you want to experience grind, then come back and see if you think GW2 is a grind.

You guys should really poll more often in the forums. It yields more results than you think. Also if you check my polls you will find that majority of players are leaning towards “Guild Mission cost is crud and ruins smaller guilds” than the few who are “ok” with the costs. Now from what I have read if the cost is not fixed to be more accessible to the smaller guilds which are roughly less than 20 members. Then gem sales, product sales, and overall numbers of people playing are going to drop significantly. Which means lay-offs at Arena Net because of less money to spend and significant drop in stocks. As a person who oversaw finances in a multibillion dollar company, I can tell you this is just the start of failure overall. You guys need to think more about the smaller guilds than the larger guilds. The people that compose the smaller guilds have enough power in the future of the game, that word of mouth could provide serious ramifications.

You need to speculate a little less. ‘overseeing finances for a multibillion dollar company’ could be nothing more than a teller at Walmart. Any poll done here is inherently flawed, you should know this.
‘less money to spend = stocks drop = layoffs’
