Really??
Was anything addressed from the last 2 CDI’s?
You found out that (big surprise) the biggest issue people have is population imbalance.
So… You create a season 2 league with better rewards for further stacking the top few servers.
Good job, no seriously… /eyeroll
Does it even matter what is said in this thread, it’s a thinly veiled attempt at trying to show us you care, when all that really matters to you is the money you make from server transfers.
It’s like Olympic women’s hockey… there’s Canada and the USA… And everyone else doesn’t matter
I’m still unsure after reading all this what a swiss style tournament is.
Are all 24 servers playing in the same tier?
So if for whatever reason BG, SBI, AR win in week 1… is it plausible there could be a BG vs SBI vs Anvil Rock match?
What’s the point of that?
Whatever system they use, BG and JQ will be 1 and 2. Even more people are going to stack to those servers now, creating an even larger gap between the haves, and have-nots.
Regardless, more info on the style of tournament would be nice… whoever wrote that article, and those who proofread it should have realized that nobody would understand how this is going to work, so some clarification would be nice, unless they’re being purposely vague.
Anyways umm… ascended backpacks would be nice Anet as a reward for PvP’ers…
I really dislike the EOTM map. I find it difficult to stay in it longer than 20 minutes.
I like pvp maps and I like PvE maps… I find the 2 meshed together is an unplayable abomination.
What purpose does the EOTM map serve?
Queues are not an issue anywhere.
We had an EBG map and 3 borderlands maps that aren’t used much.
EOTM pulls people from an already mostly deserted WvW to make it even more deserted. EOTM in itself offers no incentive to do anything for your server. Why are there towers and keeps in EOTM? Why the need to break down gates? Why even have gates? Who cares if the enemy takes everything you own in EOTM, there is zero reward for winning and zero punishment for losing. Taking points gives Wxp, for people who don’t even go into the actual WvW maps. The whole map just seems dumb and unnecessary and did nothing but destroy WvW on a lot of servers.
As for endgame PvE and gameplay…
Most of it involves amassing wealth to buy things to upgrade and improve your character. Exotic gear and weapons (gold) can be bought off the trading post and are generally pretty good.
Upgrading your weapons/armor/jewelry to the next level (pink-ascended) requires a lot of work. Weapons and armor you’ll need to max out your crafting to level 500 for the respective piece you want to upgrade.
And those pieces require a LOT of ingredients to make that you acquire by doing endgame type events.
Upgrading jewelry to ascended status is a bit more straightforward and can be bought by acquiring ‘laurels’ which you get from doing dailies/monthlies, plus a few other alternative means such as guild commendations, from doing guild missions.
Welcome to GW2. I also briefly played Swtor. I find the biggest difference is the community. Gw2 is way more friendly, and a much better atmosphere overall.
SoX left SoR to ‘play for fights’.
How is posting a pic of one ‘raider’ (rank 10-14) indicative of an entire guild?
I think I’m missing the point you’re trying to make.you missed the point. it wasn’t about rank but rather the seige he was using.
So one person who has probably never played WvW before this week is on a cannon…
I’m sure you never tried that when you were new to WvW.
Your post and ‘condemning’ picture says a lot more about you than it does anyone in the guild you’re for whatever reason trying to make fun of.
SoX left SoR to ‘play for fights’.
How is posting a pic of one ‘raider’ (rank 10-14) indicative of an entire guild?
I think I’m missing the point you’re trying to make.
The same thing is happening to SoR that has happened to every server other than BG and JQ.
The lower tiers are emptying out slowly but surely. There’s really not much left for coverage outside of tier 1, maybe tier 2.
Even tier 3 is becoming mostly empty most of the time.
WvW was great for a long time, I just don’t think there’s enough people to sustain it anymore outside of a few servers and a few timezones.
The casuals are mostly in EOTM at the moment, who knows how long that will last.
I think a real change will have to come sooner than later. It’s reset night and there’s some ridiculous scores, the worst I’ve seen. There’s clearly a major problem with WvW in its current state and something needs to change before there’s only a tier 1 remaining.
Running from the blue spawn when the keep is contested is painful.
Why make one color (blue) so much farther from the action than the other 2?
I’m having trouble figuring out what the point of this new map is.
The long run back after you die is horrible.
So few waypoints are supposed to discourage blobbing, but I don’t know why.
Apparently there’s a score, but I don’t know why. Winning or losing means nothing. I played a 4 hour match that our side won, but there was no reward. Our BL gets a supply drop, I think? Supply means nothing outside of reset night.
Map is meant for queues… outside of BG and JQ, nobody queues. Even then, they probably don’t queue 4 maps outside of a few hours on Friday reset.
Our own team blows up our own bridges making it even more annoying to get back to a fight. There’s no simple way for people to communicate cross-server, there’s very little to no communication or strategy. There’s no reason to take or hold objectives since points are useless and winning means nothing, so nobody defends. There’s not even that small joy of server pride. It’s just an annoying karma train map with a spot in the middle where giant blobs run into each other. Whoever builds the most AC’s (and all those nubs can’t even be bothered to throw down superiors from what I’ve seen, I doubt most Pve’ers even know superior siege exists) on the backline wins from what I’ve seen.
My only hope is that this map is an experiment for something better and more innovative in the future for GW2.
Watching a demolition derby is fun once, but going back multiple times is only for people from Alabama.
To me, the only point of this map is for people to blob up in the middle and smash into each other… so why make it so annoying to get back to the fight with what seems like a 30 minute run across narrow passages?
Badges are pretty easy to come by for PvE achievement hunters.
I don’t have a ton of AP since I almost exclusively play WvW, but I think I remember getting a lot of badges when achievement chests were released.
So I’m not sure marrying gold along with badges really means much of anything when buying a commander tag.
Plus all the people, including myself, who dished out 100 gold for a commander tag and use badges to buy blueprints to make into superior siege for my server to use, would be a little miffed if buying a commander tag could be done by people just hording their badges.
I say leave it the way it is. I don’t really care either way… but SilverWF will be more “BH” this way.
How has this thread managed to reach this many posts? It’s like a handful of people writing walls of text saying the same thing over and over.
99.999% of the playerbase could care less about this.
If losing a happy meal worth of money that you were using as expendible income on a game is seriously hurting you so much, maybe you shouldn’t have spent that money in the first place. Anet is refunding gems to those who are dissatisfied, so not sure what the problem is. I’ve read the majority of this thread and have seen words like lawsuit and fraud thrown around. Honestly, go outside and get some fresh air. Use the gems on another armor set or save them and wait for one you like.
We’re adults, time to start acting like it.
How many tickets do they cost now?
Green: BG, FA, Mag, YB, EB, FC, SF, AR
Red: SoR, TC, DB, IOJ, CD, NSP, ET, Kain
Blue: JQ, SoS, SBI, BP, HoD, DH, GoM, DR
From what I understand, this is what the teams will be this week.
There should be plenty of Eotm overflows in play this week.
What happens when one side queues drastically more maps than the opposition?
For instance… I see the blue side will queue vastly more maps during SEA time with JQ, SoS, SBI than the other colors will. Do the excess members from the blue team get put into enemyless maps or how does that work?
kitten , every thread doesn’t have to turn into BG this and JQ that… stop whining about season 1 already… Holy crap
Roaming will always be hit and miss, regardless of server or tier.
Some days will be good, some days will be bad. Such is the life of a roamer.
PvE community on SBI is very good, always lots of folks on Teamspeak in the tequatl and scarlet channels.
Welcome to SBI.
Refreshments are on the left. YB arrow carts on the right.
Enjoy your stay. =)
I’m really not here to read reciprocal questions from lordkrall.
I would like to know why Anet is not listening to the players on this issue, or even looking at their own metrics. I’m sure they know exactly how many Energy Probes have been destroyed in the borderlands this week, and I’m certain it’s “not very many”.
It’s a small number because living story, toxic mobs and energy probes are not relevant to WvW.
But they are.
They are not adding it into the real WvW maps, they are adding it into a new map, which would serve several purposes.1: It explains why we get a completely new map all of a sudden.
2: It helps push the story of the world forward.
3: It gets more people into WvW and might end up with increased participation overall.People are asking ArenaNet to remove Living story from the borderlands. ArenaNet does that by putting it on a new (already PvE heavy) map.
People are asking ArenaNet to give more people reason to join WvW. ArenaNet does that by putting Living Story stuff in a semi-WvW-PvE map.I really don’t see how we can claim them not listening.
How will EOTM get more people into WvW exactly?
If anything, there will be way less people in WvW, because they will be in EOTM doing stuff that isn’t even helping the server.
You think Pve’ers in zerk gear getting ganked by experienced roamers in EOTM is gonna make them rush to WvW?
Aside from reset night on a few servers for only maybe an hour or two, are queues even an issue?
I get that plenty of people will want to see a new map at first, but what’s the incentive to go there after you’ve seen it?
It doesn’t count towards your server’s score, so it’s taking even more people out of WvW which is currently a bigger issue. I guess I just don’t understand the overall point of it. A Pvp map with some Pve? Isn’t that WvW already?
I doubt even Blackgate or JQ have queue issues on all maps 99% of the time.
I guess I’d be more excited if completely new maps were introduced for WvW instead of whatever EOTM is. I think EOTM will actually hurt WvW.
“We’re too cool for PPT”
The anthem of the losing server.
To each their own, everyone plays differently.
Hey mate, i’m from SOS and i can tell we are actually going to be focusing our recruitment on roamers and small ops groups as it is somethign we lack. The general culture of SoS is very laid back (why so many guilds come here and stay here) there is a lack of ego’s almost no in server fighting and everybody just gives each other the personal space to play the game as they please.
If you have any questions ingame feel free to pm me ingame or mail me i’ll answer all your questions
Agreed, I like where SoS and SBI are heading.
Looks like we’ll be seeing plenty of each other in the future as we swap between tier 2 and 3 =)
I like that we get to take turns beating on maguuma! =)
My best advice would be to go to a server that shares your interests.
I’m the same as the OP, I enjoy sieging/upgrading/defence.
Sometimes those things can be frustrating when your server is constantly outmanned and losing.
YB is in a bad spot right now. YB probably doesn’t have the population to consistently do well in T3, so will probably have to wait for a drop to tier 4.
Sorry that people on your own server were rude, it’s probably the result of a frustrating time post season 1 for YB.
Things will get better if you stay positive though.
If a change is needed, you’ll find lots of friendly people that enjoy your playstyle on SBI.
It’s nice knowing you can logout and your efforts won’t immediately perish.
Love seeing familiar faces day in and day out in EBG.
I love sieging and upgrading.
Playing with friends is the best part of WvW.
I haven’t seen all the servers…
From recent memory…
Small man: [XOXO] from NSP was really good.
GvG type guilds: [Ark] from Maguuma and [EP] from SoS stick out to me.
Servers rising and dropping is good for the game.
Half the fun is politics.
Without movement things would get stagnant.
SoR is in nowhere as bad of shape as Kaineng, who dropped from tier 2 to rank 23 now I think.
Even our server who was at one time ranked first for a bit, fell to rank 15 about a year ago, now are moving back up, probably number 6 after this week.
It keeps things fun. It kinda sucks for the server falling, but take it from someone who has been there… it’s really rewarding to stick to your server, building up your loyal community and becoming close with those who stayed to rebuild a wonderful community.
SBI feels like a really close community right now, and it’s because we went through some tough times and managed to stay positive.
It will never get that bad for SoR that they’ll drop to tier 5 or lower.
Keep your chins up and enjoy the game with those that you’ve built friendships with over the time you’ve spent together smashing on BG and JQ.
When ur server loses 3 out of 4 matches over the past year, u stop caring about the numbers game. Unlike football where each team has the same amount of players, wvw does not. There’s nothing fair about it and has zero reward.
It’s been this way since the game launched.
It’s a game of coverage wars for the most part.
Blackgate has the most players, the best coverage… therefore the most wins.
Everyone in WvW plays because they have fun in their own way, regardless of server.
There’s so many different playstyles on each server and usually even within most guilds. So it’s ridiculous to say that SoR simply plays for the fights, because it’s not true. Sure, maybe some people on SoR simply play for fights. I’m sure others play for ppt, some play to scout, play defense, siege, havoc, zerg… some probably just goof around having fun in their own way.
So when someone from SoR comes out and says ‘we just play for the fights’, that’s disrespectful to the rest of your servermates who don’t think that way, and don’t play that way. It takes all kinds of playstyles to succeed as a team in WvW.Yeah ur right not everyone on SoR plays only for fights. We did have a large guild that played for ppt but they are no longer here. I would say 5 out of 6 commanders here couldn’t care any less about ppt.
When a server goes 2-3 months of straight losses, and GAINS players then that overall server DOESN’T care about winning the match.
I’m trying to think of defense/ppt guild we have left atm and nothing comes to mind.Don’t judge a server that you clearly know nothing about, leave that to the bg trolls.
Anyways im looking foward to SoR dropping to t2 and actually have guilds to gvg against.
I know it seems kinda hopeless. I doubt BG could defend a weeklong 2v1 versus JQ and SoR.
YB and EBay successfully pulled it off during league against us.
I know JQ and SoR have the man power to do it, and I’m sure BG would welcome the challenge.
Awesome, look forward to seeing you out there. =)

Elementalist. Lots of combo fields.
Warrior has a lot of finishers.
As a Blackgate player, I personally loathe our WvW scene for 4 reasons:
1. It seems like we win way too often. I’ve seen high-tier opposing servers just give up. It takes the fun and the challenge out of things.
2. Everything boils down to massive zergs. “It’s the BG ocean vs. the SoR ocean. Again.”
3. We generally get the same opponents. If we’re lucky, we’ll get one or two different opponents once in a blue moon. But even then, it’s all from the same small rotation.
And, of course….
4. We have to wait on massive queue timers just to experience WvW at all. The EB generally has a 2 hour minimum queue and battlegrounds often have 10min+ queue times.
And WvW Season 1, with it’s over-hyped server-performance based rewards is partially to blame for all of that.
The only thing holding me back from a server swap (to a more average server) is my excellent Blackgate guild.
Maybe you need to take that excellent guild into EBG sometime,
Too point out a few things, I don’t know what your being told as the rumors fly all the time when it comes to T1, but if you knew SoR at all, its that we don’t give up, but we do not play for PPT ( there is no reward for coming first week in week out, other than bragging rights ) we fight for the kills, I would rather tick at 100PPT and get 1000 kills a night in WvW than tick at 400PPT and get 100 kills.
Tonight in EBG for 4 hours we watched BG zergs as big as our own run away, I hear it all the time that apparently SoR runs from fights, yet ive never seen it, ( could be my timezone ) but im sure as hell going to start running fraps,
If you happen to be in a rare BG guild that fights, then bravo, I hope you can bring more of them out to fight instead of pressing 1 against that door.
As for the same servers each week, you can thank anets new “random matchups” for that, making it that pretty much we will only ever meet each other, unless something super drastic happens.
I think it’s a little silly when someone says that an entire server plays for fights and not PPT. That’s something a losing server says, and a bad excuse.
It’s like a football team saying they play for the hits and not the score.
I think the idea is to do both.
It’s just something I see as silly and it gets thrown around too much.
That, and it’s not like the people who claim that their server just ‘plays for fights’ speaks for the thousands of people who make up said server.
If your server in fact ‘only plays for fight’, then nobody on your server would ever place one single piece of siege, and I highly doubt that’s the case.
Well tier 3 consists of Yak’s Bend, SBI, Sea of Sorrows at the moment.
Maguuma also hovers in that area of tier 2 and 3.
SoS could probably use the most help in the NA time slot of these servers.
The strongest NA in this tier is probably SBI overall. Maguuma has really strong GvG type guilds in the NA time slot.
Good luck picking a new server. =)
Yak’s Bend is my favorite server to fight against.
We love and hate them at the same time.
Any people or guilds willing to transfer to Yak’s Bend would be awesome. Tier 3 probably has the closest fights of all the tiers currently, adding to Yak’s Bend’s roster would make it even tighter. <3
If you love fighting SBI, go to Yak’s Bend!!!
We’ve been fighting each other for 247 consecutive weeks!
(edited by Shonie.5297)
A couple of ex-Darkhaven guilds have found homes in tier 3.
[Abys] plays on SBI.
[SE] plays on Yak’s Bend.
If you’re looking for action and good commanders during NA, any of the top 4 or 5 tiers should suffice, although I doubt tier 1 needs anymore people.
If you play at all during off-peak times, you may want to stick to the top 3 tiers.
Good luck in your search, playing in the top few tiers should be radically different than what you’re used to in terms of organization. =)
There are to many kitten in this game. They cant beat u 1 on 1 what they do send 2 more, and get wiped. So what they do send 6 more kitten.
I’m happy enough knowing that I won the war on English.
1 thru 5 Ehmry Bay
This is getting a little silly…
Maybe the matchups were a little silly before the change… but can we at least have a happy medium instead of going from extreme to extreme.
3rd week of the same matchup… pretty sure SoS/YB/SBI are a little tired of each other with no end in sight. YB and SBI been in the same matchup for like 8 out of 9 weeks.
If you’re looking for a server that is decently populated, but not tier 1… you’re probably looking at either tier 2 or tier 3. Tier 4 has a decent amount of NA time zone players, but they really fall off in off hours.
Garnished Toast, Maguuma, Fort Aspenwood, Stormbluff Isle, Sea of Sorrows, Yak’s Bend would all be good choices for 24/7 battles. =)
I’m from SBI so I can give you a bit of info on SBI.
Amazing eternal battleground server with amazing commanders.
Very high NA and weekend population.
Probably top reset server outside of tier 1.
A little weak during Euro and Oceanic times, but improving lately.
There are queues on reset night on all maps at least for the first few hours, but generally not too bad.
EBG is usually queue’d nightly. The people love fighting with our rockstar EBG commanders. I think last night was a 20 minute queue for me.
But usually not that bad, we’re winning this week so more people on than normal like with every other server when they’re winning.
stormbluffisle.com is our community site. It’s open to the public with a private section where we make fun of the other servers and stuff.
SBI has it’s own Teamspeak with all the bells and whistles.
Good luck on your choice. Hopefully see you soon on the battlefield. If you’re on the other side, I look forward to your blade giving me a new hairdo!
(edited by Shonie.5297)
I have a lot of fun with it.
Sieging up a tower and being able to hold it with 2-3 people versus 30-40 is a blast.
Holding on to your servers tier 2 and tier 3 towers is important.
There’s always stuff to do. Refreshing the siege, upgrading, dolyak escort, scouting, retaking sentries and supply camps with under 5 minutes until tick. Anyone who just sits in a tower isn’t doing it right.
Sure it doesn’t net the same rewards as following the Zerg around, but it’s fun in its own way for people who like that playstyle.
I’m lucky enough on SBI to have lots of people who enjoy that playstyle to play with.
It’s good to kick back and relax a bit and enjoy what MMO’s really have to offer, people and community.
I find when I run with the large groups I rarely have time to chat and goof around.
AR too strong.
Nice job climbing the rankings AR!
Happy holidays =)
Thank the gods, if we’d been matched up with SBI and Yaks again I’d have pulled my eyes out with a spork.
And great fights tonight in FABL, good seeing RET and RAM again
No doubt…
As much as I like the closer scores the past few weeks, I think I prefer variety in opponents a lot more.
Happy holidays =)
Thanks for the bags <3 2k kills in Lords Room of Bay!
Yay SoS!
Nice to not have the same matchup for a third week in a row.
Happy holidays to everyone! =)
The matchup threads are the only reason to visit the GW2 forums.
They are entertaining. This game is supposed to be a form of entertainment.
If the matchup threads aren’t some peoples form of entertainment, then don’t read it.
There are probably 30 other subforums for the PvE crowd to read.
This decision doesn’t help anyone. It only hurts people.
If it’s a moderator burden, then just don’t moderate it.
The best part of pvp games are the rivalries, trash talking, and politics. If there’s no venue for that to easily take place, people will just become bored and stop playing.
What does ANet expect us to do? Fight ingame all day long then come to the forums and have cuddle sessions and I can tell all the Maguuma and Yak’s Bend people how much I heart them.
This is just another dumb decision for WvW like countless others in the past months such as terrible league setup, terrible season rewards, living story kitten in WvW… Etc.
if ANet wants to do away with WvW, just be upfront about it.
By the way, the heart of the mists map is pointless. There will be no queues when everyone stops playing.
Although great idea spending all that development time on a map that will matter for 2 hours on a Friday night for like 5 servers.
Can [Ark] please stop trash talking EVERYBODY. We get it, you’re a good open field guild. No need to repeat yourself 73 times a day on the forums.
Much like real life, you’ll garner more respect if you let others boast about your accomplishments.
Telling others how great you think you are really just shows immaturity and insecurity and quite honestly belittles what you guys are accomplishing as a guild.
Instead of great fighters, I think of you more as forum clowns.Turn off your commander tag and run as a guild group you may learn to be something beyond blob fodder
I don’t honestly know the actual percentage of players who play WvW strictly for open field fights. But my guess would be 5% tops.
So congrats on running over primarily people who don’t spec for GvG’s or open field fighting. If open field fighting counted for anything, I’m sure Maguuma would have not finished 6th in gold league.

Oh, thank you. Doesn’t look good for us, I am confident that we will pick momentum up soon.
Good luck SBI and Mag.
Started the same way last week, you guys will be ok =)
MOS does kinda work… if you click on the live map… except it has 2 of the colors backwards.
SBI is red, and Yaks is blue
What is the score? MOS millennium isn’t updated…
Maguuma 4683 (240)
Stormbluff Isle 5913 (285)
Yak’s Bend 3281 (+170)
Thanks for the fun week Maguuma and YB.
It’s pretty rare all 3 servers get extended periods of being in first place during the week.
If we don’t see either server again before Christmas, happy holidays. =)
A few good fights tonight. Protip: triple engaging with 2x numbers still isn’t a substitute for playing well, SBI. I have the bags to prove it.
You’re just so darn amazing we need 5x your numbers to win.
Or maybe before we engage next time, we should all take a moment to stop and count numbers, then have people sit out, to ensure a fair fight.
