The good points don’t need fixing, and the beta test isn’t to make everyone feel good about what’s good. Its about finding bugs and improving on what’s there. Those of us that love the existing WvW have concerns we feel we should share, as they impact our enjoyment of the game. If we don’t enjoy the game, we stop playing. People that stop playing don’t buy expansions or gems to support the game.

In short, we’re sharing concerns, not complaining.

I think I have the wrong name of the tower- it’s the one with the minions as gate guards in the upper right of the map. Anyway, while trying to test blinks, my first several tries while running along the walls were received by the message “invalid path”. This is on a level wall with no barriers between my toon and the blink target circle. I must have clicked a dozen times while running around the wall before I got the skill to function. Found 2 spots where blink WILL work, all the rest of my tests on the wall failed.

I’m in the same camp as OP. The maze-like feel was trying my patience, too. We were attacking some place (I forget where, north map under spawn) and making a supply run, I and a few others got completely lost trying to get from the supply camp back to where the commander had dropped the siege. On the first run, the commander lead us back, but making my own run, even trying to follow my dots on the map, I couldn’t find my way back to where I wanted to go. I recall as a noob back on the Alpine borderlands, it was pretty easy to get from a supply camp to a tower. Noobs on this new map are going to be completely lost. I’m still trying to figure my way around, and not 100% sure where I’m going yet.

Right- but when I try to log in to NOT THE BETA but the REGULAR GAME, I cannot. It even crashed my pc during my first attempt at download. The beta client download is at 91%, so in a few hours it should be done and HOPEFULLY I’ll be able to log into the regular game for my daily.

To reiterate, I AM NOT attempting to log into the beta wvw event, as it’s not even live yet. Glad I got an invite though, because this will determine if I purchase HoT or give up the game entirely.

“But… the larger guilds will be able to get the buffs quicker, more easily, and benefit the map as a whole faster, as every person on that map will benefit.”

I disagree. Since a guild can only claim one objective per map, and one objective doesn’t cover the whole map, that large guild only helps one objective.

“Lets face it, the most often used guild buff in WvWvW is +5 supply, and it is very often used by small or even single player guilds, with occasional additional buffs. The way the new buff system is designed it will eliminate all of that, so only mid / large scale guilds will be able to claim / activate buffs, which I think is very wrong.”

Agreed 100%. My small guild had all the buffs for WvW and I used them after seeing this announcement. After HoT goes live, my small guild’s pool of influence will be useless for WvW, which is pretty much all I like to play.

Solution for Mesmers in Keeps

Wait- I want to understand this. You’re saying mesmers are bad because they can hide in a keep and port in their friends (if they’re not found). But so far no one has said anything about perma-stealth thieves hiding and then soloing the lord room to take an objective? Is that ok with the complainers in this thread?

Oh, and I logged in specifically to say that either nothing has changed or someone is camera hacking, because Ebay just lost all siege at south Hills when an enemy group put an AC in the outside niche of the wall and killed a lot of siege they couldn’t see on inner Hills. NSP group.

I’ll believe it when I see it.

and stealth professions hiding in keep after players sacrificed their time in working hard with great effort to take the keep?

You made the mistake of thinking the job was done when the circle was capped. That’s YOUR fault, not any mesmer’s “fault” that may be hiding in a keep you just “captured”. If you leave without a thorough sweep, you seriously DESERVE to lose anything you took as soon as RI wears off.

Doesn’t sweep? What a lazy tush….

randomly being accused of hacking in T4

in WvW

Posted by: Sinbold.8723

Sinbold.8723

Not a reason to nerf mesmers. If you don’t sweep, it’s your own fault for not finding a mesmer. I was in the HoD BL at the Ebay spawn and a bunch of HoD were there in our spawn. They couldn’t kill me, but I killed them multiple times for bags and took many screen shots. When someone on Ebay hacks, we’re all over him/her and refuse to take anything that smells of a hack.

However, with the AC’s supposedly getting a fix last patch, we just had a small party build an ac in the outside wall niche and kill all our inside siege at Hills. After they left, I went out to look at where the AC was, and there was no way any user should have been able to see inside Hills to hit anything with an AC from the outside stuck in a wall niche. So, was that a hack? I didn’t report cuz I wasn’t sure, but it sure looked fishy.

Sinbold.8723

If you can’t be bothered to sweep for a mesmer after you take an objective (because “it takes too long and wastes time”), then it’s your own fault if it flips. If the objective is important for your team, then you stay until it’s cleared.

Otherwise, if you are more concerned with the k-train and blobbing, do so.

Sweeping for Mesmers is just lame. And un-fun.

Nothing to do with k-training or blobbing. Its just not fun. Wasn’t that one of Anet’s mantras – something about “is it fun?”. Strange actually considering that they put so many “un-fun” mechanics in their game.

That has nothing to do with it- “fun” or not. If you’re not taking the time to secure your objective, it’s your own fault if you lose it. If you suspect a mesmer is hiding, you have a duty to send the RIGHT CLASSES to sweep, as mentioned earlier (trappers, etc.), and before the wall/gate goes down your commander needs to make sure those RIGHT CLASSES have supply for stealth traps on inner. Your commander doesn’t do that? Bad commander.

I main a mesmer in WvW and hide in gari, bay and hills 99% of the time they get taken. And guess what? Any time the conqueror has a group sweep, I eventually get found. And then the merry chase ensues, with the winner being dictated by the pursuer. If they have stealth disruptor traps (they just took the keep- there should be supply), and rangers and engis are sweeping, I’m either over the wall ASAP or I become a Heavy Loot Bag. If they don’t sweep (and this happens a lot), I portal a group in and we re-take the objective.

If you don’t want to do it because “it’s not fun”, you have no right to complain.

Solution for Mesmers in Keeps

in WvW

Posted by: Sinbold.8723

Sinbold.8723

I get that its a tactic, and its a viable tactic…but its also unbalanced due to the never ending stealth that is becoming and will continue to become all the more prevalent in WvW.

Simple solution:
When an enclosed(walled) objective is captured. – Revealed is applied to all enemies in all areas inside the tower/keep/castle. Permanently(no timer like RI). (Stealth being disabled for all professions with access to it when inside an enemy controlled, fortified objective with no breaks(in walls or gates) for enemy access in the perimeter. This would not include camps or sentry positions, as they are not enclosed/fortified.)

When a gate or wall is breached, this effect is removed.

Ex #1: Bust a wall, stealth the group, CHARGE!

Ex #2: All 3 servers have a group inside Stonemist(or Hills or Bay or etc.). A wall and gate have been breached. All Stealth is working. Server 1 takes the Objective as the other 2 groups are fighting in the courtyard. The wall and gate are rebuilt. Servers 2 and 3 now lose their Stealth tools/skills. Hopefully your group is good enough to not have to rely on stealth alone to win.

If this were implemented, I would also like to see:
Repairs do NOT automatically happen. The base supply when an objective is taken would have to be increased by enough to allow for repairs to be made by the controlling server. Once the repairs are made, the “Revealed” condition on the inside of the objective activates.

If this were put in place…Portal Away…if you’re good enough to stay hidden from a group doing a sweep when you can’t stealth…you’ve earned it. Just realize you won’t be able to stealth, and neither will your allies if you portal them in without breaching a wall or gate.

To keep things balanced, which core functionalities would you remove from Ranger, Warrior, Elementalist, Revenant, Guardian, and Necromancer? I mean, we’re talking “fair” here, right? As in it’s “unfair that a mesmer can stealth inside a keep.” So if you’re taking away a core ability from one class, it’s only fair to take something away from other classes too, right? Do you see where this is going? There is no need to introduce class crippling mechanics against only one or two classes because some players refuse to use the tools given to them.

Just some tips since people seem to have left their brains switched off…

  • Ranger has access to “Sic Em” – it applies Revealed
  • Engineer trait has access to Revealed debuff via traits
  • Stealth Disruptor Trap exists. Start using it. But first, start using your brains.
  • Most PU Mesmers don’t carry much condi-cleanse, or only have 1, therefore they are weak against conditions. Immobilize them to set up a burst, CC them etc… preferably AFTER you’ve applied Revealed to them to make it easier.
  • Trapper builds via thief/ranger work well against a stealthed mesmer
  • Turn your sound up/on; you can hear the enemy Mesmer’s skills (stealth) going on/off CD and may help you distinguish where exactly they are

Seriously guys, get it together.

This right here. The title of the post is “Solutions…” and these ARE THE SOLUTIONS. Anet already nerfed banner rezzing the lord because people screamed “Other players are better than me and it makes me lose!” Anyone complaining just hasn’t turned their brains on fully yet. New keeps- big effing deal. How long did it take to find all the cool hiding spots on the Alpine Borderlands? Heck, some players STILL don’t know all the mesmer hiding spots in Hills and Bay. And what’s that? You’re not using Stealth Disruptor Traps?!? You have a tool you’re not using and you’re complaining that you’re not using it?!? WHERE’S THE LOGIC IN THAT?!?!? “But I used all my supply!” Guess what Mr. and Mrs. Special Snowflake?!? Supply management is a battlefield tactic just as important as any other! Get off the “Participation Trophy” mentality, study the methods mentioned numerous times in this thread, and apply them as needed.

Sorry for the rant, but when I feel like some complaints are not valid I become R. Lee Ermy.

Is Macroing a reportable offense?

The way I have my keyboard offset when I play makes it super easy to jump-dodge 100% of the time in wvw and pvp. V key for dodge, space bar for jump. MAYBE I miss it once in a while, like once every 10 hours of play. I’ve been accused in whisper of macroing, but truth be told, I’m a 53 year old computer illiterate and have absolutely no idea how I would go about making different keys do the job of other keys. Jump-dodge is not in any way an indication of macroing, and reporting someone for doing so could get YOU banned for false reporting and is a waste of Anet’s resources investigating someone because you lost a match to them in pvp or wvw.

Because these are more map issues than AC issues, I’d say don’t look for a “fix” any time soon, as these maps will go the way of the dodo bird when HoT comes out. Then we’ll have to find all new places for siege, which of course will lead to all sorts of other issues dealing with siege placement.

You’re joking, right?

Salvaged 10 rares today- got 3 ectos. Not very common, but it happens. Also salvaged 3 exotics for the sigils, and got zero globs of dark matter. Can you imagine the tears from people who DON’T do level 50 fractals daily, nor have a storage bin full of unneeded rings, spending their hard earned laurels on rings to salvage and get nothing? And now they’re at zero laurels? This helps retain players how?

Sorry if I’m sounding like a cynical jerk, but I’m primarily a WvW player and my fractal level is 9 or 10. I REALLY don’t want to grind fractals while some server is eating my home borderland. Can we get some WvW love for legendary crafting? Oh, wait- you can ignore WvW completely if you want a legendary. What their numbers don’t show is why people play this game. For me and my guild, PvE is a means to an end. We need to do PvE to support our WvW play.

If they introduced a fair reward system for WvW, most of us would never see a need to participate in any PvE.

Logged in to say basically the same thing. It’s impossible to get enough materials in WvW to make your ascended armor & weapons, food buffs, etc., so we WvW people HAVE to visit PvE for materials. Would I rather not? Sure, but it’s not really that difficult to run around Cursed Shore gathering stuff. If Mike O. looked at the REAL metrics, he’d see that this is true for a lot of WvW players. If 80% of your log in time is spent in WvW, then its safe to say “you only WvW”.

To clarify Teq needed to be nerfed twice to be doable by the masses the last time they changed it.

Totally forgot about that. I’d stopped doing it for 2 years (or since that first re-work) because I didn’t want to spend SO MUCH time waiting only to fail. Mesmer Clones doing Zero Damage

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Sinbold.8723

Sinbold.8723

Quoted from the wiki:
" A clone’s basic attack is the same as the caster’s first weapon skill, e.g. Spatial Surge for clones created while wielding a greatsword. Clones have approximately 1 second of delay between attacks, meaning they attack slower than the player. All effects of attacks such as conditions caused by Winds of Chaos still apply.
Although base damage of clones is near zero, they can apply conditions and boons depending on traits selected and their attack skill. Their purpose is to distract opponents, attract aggro, and be shattered by the mesmer to produce damage and other effects."

Something doesn’t seem right, though. My clones USED to do SOME damage (although very little), but I’m still trying to figure out the new build and trait tree, so maybe I don’t have something selected that I need to select.

In pvp, my torment shatter build seems like it got a nerf, too.

When I shatter my illusions, they go “Poof!” instantly- how are they supposed to hang around for another 2 seconds to receive protection? If I wanted them protected, I wouldn’t have shattered them, right? What am I missing here? Is this so they can stay alive long enough to travel to their intended target before they shatter?

[Survey] Thoughts on farming in GW2

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Sinbold.8723

Sinbold.8723

GW1 was my first MMO. We could farm for stuff there because we knew who dropped what. Here in GW2, there aren’t specific monsters that drop specific skins, so we really can’t farm for an item. It seems Anet would like everyone to farm for gold and buy what they want from the TP. Part of the problem with that is when we get the gold to buy what we wanted to farm for in the first place, there’s not the level of satisfaction that would have come from getting that item from a kill.

Let me make a comparison- You enter a competition and pay an entry fee. Every other competition you’ve participated in also had an entry fee, and in those competitions the top 3 finishers won gold, silver, and bronze medals. After a long day of hard competition, you come out on top of everyone else and look forward to the competition organizer hanging that gold medal around your neck. However, when the time comes and you’re standing on the podium, the event organizer approaches you and hands you a portion of your entry fee back and smiles big as he says, “Congratulations! Here’s a few bucks to go out and buy yourself something nice to commemorate your victory!” You worked hard to earn a gold medal, as that’s what you expected. Whatever you purchase, it will not have the same impact that the gold medal would have had.

That’s what “farming” in GW2 is to me.

You’ll take about 10 steps (around the bridge area) and you’ll see a ton of ambients to toss your balm at. The best thing about it is that anyone around will not grief you because they are from your server and are there for WvW, not PvE bag farming.

The lack of logic here is tragic. Let’s try a substitution and see if a set of arguments above are valid. Let us accept this in place of the SAB situation: “Anet has shut down Guild Wars 2 until further notice. Devs have said they are working on other things for the game, and although GW2 will return, they will not give a specific date. No refunds will be given to people who have purchased the game.”

Customer base: “But… we paid money to play your game.”

Forum posters respond with:
“And yet it is very naive to think that they can just push a button and GW2 is back working as intended. There have been a massive amount of changes to the game and the engine since GW2 was last available. So at the very least they would have to take people to test that it still work as intended and at the worst they would have to spend weeks if not more to fix issues that have turned up. Weeks that would have to be taken away from preparing the HoT launch.”

Customer base: “Can we get an answer from Anet, cuz, you know, good customer service?”

Forum posters respond with:
“Giving helpful information isn’t the same as good customer service. Obviously you would not be satisfied with any answer given, so why bother responding at all?”
