Frostgorge Champ Trio bonus chest bug

I’ve been trying to find where I originally read about the bonus chest, but my old brain just can’t recall that information. Inculpatus, I also checked the wiki, but since it’s player updated I didn’t expect to find any info there, either.

You’ll also have people commenting in map chat if you go there and do the event. Sometimes no one talks at all, other times its a chatty zerg. But mention that bonus chest, and you get a myriad of responses like I mentioned above.

Nice to know (or sad to know) that I’m not the only one this happens to. I hope they get busy and fix all these bugs in the next update.

I think what caused most of the cursing was failure caused by a zerg below someone fighting Liadri to drop their frame rate to something below what’s required to see Liadri’s tells.

Frostgorge Champ Trio bonus chest bug

Fish, Norn, Kodan. Do all 3 within the time limit and you’re supposed to get a bonus chest, right? Well, after doing it again this afternoon for maybe the 20th time since the 4/15 update, and killing all 3 with the zerg within the time limit, I did not receive the bonus chest. I’ve actually only received it twice. Someone in map chat this afternoon said they only participated in 2 of the 3 kills and got the bonus chest, while many others said they did get a bonus chest, and others simply said, “Bonus chest? For this? Are you sure?”

Forum readers: Please do NOT respond to this post with comments like, “You didn’t do enough damage,” because that is NOT the issue here. If someone can kill only 2 of the 3 and get a chest, that’s obviously not the issue. Please only post if you’re one of those folks in map chat that rarely or never gets a chest, or always gets one, or never knew there even was a chest for the trio event.

Its a bug that happens once in a while and hard to duplicate. It can happen when someone else opens the passage and you jump in, but end up where you are in the screen shot. If it happens again, just jump. It puts you back in mid-jump to steam ogre and you end up on the platform up top. It’s happened to me twice.

I’m with you, Terkov. I’m a bit of a history buff, and a competitive fencer, with a healthy collection of bladed weapons, both real antique and reproduction. I have a Scottish greatsword that’s almost a duplicate of Kymswarden (http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/File:Kymswarden.jpg), and the rest of the greatswords in GW2, like the fractal GS, look like butter knives to me (http://culturalconcubine.files.wordpress.com/2010/05/victorian-butter-knife.jpg).

History has some great looking weapons. Why are they not used as inspiration for more weapons n GW2?

Yargesh, not to pick on you, but you DID make this claim: “It just increases your chance of getting to the minimum threshold of being awarded a drop.”

This is absolutely NOT true, and a Dev has said so on these very forums in a post from over a year ago. I’ve been searching for said post for over 40 minutes now, but we all know how the “search” function of these forums is broken. I’m with the OP- it bugs me when false information like this is spread as if it were the gospel.

Since I cannot find the specific dev post, I’ll relate what I recall was said. GW2 is supposed to be play how you want, where you want, and don’t worry about being at a disadvantage because at level 80 everyone is equal. Nothing in this game, nothing, will give any player an advantage over any other player. If you perceive otherwise, remember it’s all RNG and you just had good luck.

It’s almost 3:00 in the afternoon and I hate so much this bit of false info that I am committing the rest of my day to finding that dev post so I can quote it here. To be edited in the future.

I was talking about this loss with my guild just the other night. The level 80 transmutation stones should have kept their singular function so we could, for example, buy a piece of armor from the TP with a Dolyak rune and transmute that rune onto Sentinels armor if we so chose. Can’t do that anymore.

Ouimette.5902, perhaps I should clarify. Those dogs DO drop champ loot, as I’ve gotten 1-3 the previous 3 days, but missed Ulgoth’s bag. Others in map chat will tell you (as they told me) that they DID get champ loot from the dogs AND Ulgoth. So you’ve been robbed, so to speak, as well. It used to be (and technically still is) that you got loot from each champ dog and Ulgoth, plus the big chest on the ground and your once daily bonus chest. With the megaserver, you’re not guaranteed that champ loot anymore, just the big ground and bonus chest.

I was iffy on the megaserver thing until yesterday. Went to Ulgoth, playing my guardian traited for damage, ascended weapons, food buffs for extra power. Attack first champ dog, no loot. Second dog, no loot. Third dog, same. Used to get champ bags from these. Attack Ulgoth and get a champ bag from him, but for the first time this week. When I put “No loot?” in map chat, everyone says, “You didn’t do enough damage.”

What the heck?!? I cycled through all my skills with both weapon sets- there was literally no way for me to do more damage playing that toon. Simply tagging (which I always hated) does not guarantee any loot. “Join a party” should not make a difference, as a Dev said here last year on a post that being in a party or not should not effect your loot. So now we ARE competing for drops, which is completely against the manifesto Anet championed at release. Worse, I’m a lvl 80 down-leveled for the zone. What about someone playing a toon at the level of the map with map-level weapons? If I’m not getting loot, they certainly can’t be.

Well, since the Frostgorge Champ Train has been nerfed, there are no players killing champs in Frostgorge anymore. Up by Drakkar WP are the 3 champs that have been turned into one event, and in all the times I’ve been up there looking for orichalcum and ancient wood, no one has been there killing them. I’d suggest that would be a good place to go test your builds.

Why would Anet want to cap AP’s? AP hunters were playing the game their way, right? If people wanted to chase AP’s and were happy doing so, then great! Happy customers buy gems, unhappy ones do not. If you had a guildie that became an AP zombie and negatively impacted your guild, you should have kicked that person and let them find a guild of like minded players.

How is Anet harmed by AP hunters?

How are other players harmed by AP hunters? (And don’t give me that AP zombie line- it doesn’t harm you if you can kick them and recruit someone else who is more like minded. jheryn.8390’s comment above is correct.)

While the change DID make me jump into PvP for the first time since ever in GW2 (used to do it in GW1, but the monsters were rude and the drops were lousy) and I found that capture points reminded me of playing Jade Quarry in Factions, and I’ve played WvW since launch and really enjoy it, I also liked doing more than 5 per day for the extra points because I was chasing the AP chest rewards. How is that a bad thing?

Yes, it’s a very puzzling and unwelcome change. Remember last time they updated it to have more options? They said they wanted to give people more chance to finish the daily with lots more options than previously. And now they take those options away again. It didn’t feel like a chore, since you had so many options before. And now it feels like a chore again.

Who the kitten cares about leaderboards? (if that is truly the reason behind this) I just want the daily to return the way it was.

(also, removing daily activity from the dailies list is sure to boost the number of players doing the activity … NOT)

Why are MMO characters called "toons?"

We were big fans of that movie because it was the FIRST movie to combine cartoons and live action,

What, you never saw Mary Poppins?

D’oh! Touche! Forgot about those Disney flicks. Although there wasn’t as much of a mix as Roger Rabbit, it was certainly there.

A bit of personal story: my old friend who got me into GW1 was showing me that game before I bought it, and referred to his GW1 characters as “toons”. When I asked him why, he shot back with, “Haven’t you seen Roger Rabbit?”

Interesting discussion here, for sure. I enjoy reading where people first heard the term. What I simply cannot fathom is why some people are bothered by it to such a degree. I was initially confused by “char”, thinking it was just a misspelling of “charr”. One of my guildies wanted to show me her new “char”, so I waypointed to where she was, looked at her “char” and said, “That’s not a charr, that’s a sylvari!”

Sinbold.8723

Danikat.8537 wrote, “What we’re discussing here is how it came to refer to MMO characters specifically.”

Perhaps I should clarify. My generation (hereafter referred to as “we”) grew up with Roger Rabbit and 8-bit video games. We were big fans of that movie because it was the FIRST movie to combine cartoons and live action, and we went on to become the early players of RPG MMO’s, like Ultima and later, WoW. Back in the day, pretty much all video game and PC game characters looked like cartoons. Today’s realism was a pipe dream back then. So when we got the ability to make custom characters in games, rather than play the game’s protagonist, we basically created our own cartoon characters. As a nod to one of my generations favorite movies, and because our game characters were similar in nature to how the “toons” in Roger Rabbit interacted with humans in the book and film, we (my 52 year old generation, and some of your parents) lovingly referred to our video game and PC game custom made characters as “toons”.

If that doesn’t answer your question, watch the film with the above bolded statement in mind and you’ll understand.

Actually, it IS from Roger Rabbit, but not the movie. “Who Censored Roger Rabbit?” is a mystery novel written by Gary K. Wolf in 1981, later adapted into the film “Who Framed Roger Rabbit” (1988). Everyone here who believes otherwise is just too young to know the correct history of the term (I’m 52, and have used the term for my old D&D characters since reading the book in ‘81, before a lot of you were born). If you haven’t seen the movie, it’s a classic and deserves to be on your list of “must see” films!

Having seen this very cool looking station next to Gnashblade at Vigil Keep, I found the recipe for sale from Urmaug for a whopping 5 gold. I bought it without checking the wiki for the ingredients, thinking, “It can’t be THAT expensive to make, right?”

WRONG!!!!

1 bloodstone brick (we all have too much of that junk already, so no big deal)
30 (yes, thirty, that’s not a typo) piles of Crystalline Dust
5 Deldrimor Steel Ingots

So the cost to make one station that lasts 5 minutes and gives an hour boost to whomever uses it costs, at today’s current BLTP prices, a whopping….

26 gold, 82 silver, and change!

Seriously, Anet? Seriously? For a freling consumable?!?! Biggest waste of 5 gold I ever spent.

I saw someone mention this in the bug forum when “Escape” went live, and went and tested it myself, but found no difference at all. My guardian does not have the trait to halve falling damage, and I still keep to the right side of the entrance, and face-plant on the stalagmites half way down with no damage. From there, before jumping down the rest of the way, I angle my view to look down as much as the camera will allow, THEN make my jump to the left (cue the RHPS music). You can still move left & right as you’re falling, so you can aim for the water instead of hoping you won’t hit the rocks and get killed from falling damage. I have Fiery Dragon Swords from the HoM and Jormag’s Breath to light my way in the dark area, but still haven’t noticed that being any darker than it always was. I do this JP at least once a day on my guardian, and sometimes, time permitting, more with each lvl 80 toon for the ascended crafting mats.

Remove WvW from map completion

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Sinbold.8723

Sinbold.8723

Like the OP, I do not care one whit about a legendary (ascended is good enough for me and I don’t care for the legendary skins) but I wanted full map completion for the gold star. At the beginning of this game I wasn’t in to WvW, but I had to go there to get the maps done. What I did was, I ran with the zerg when I found one, and got every POI and vista that the zerg ran past or encountered. There is safety in numbers, and I took advantage of this. When it got to the point where I only needed one or two things on a map to go from 99% to 100%, I kept my eye on WvW daily to see what my server owned, and when we owned an area I needed, I ran as fast as my swiftness skills would take me there to get it. I’ll never forget being in LA when someone said in map chat that we owned all of Eternal Battlegrounds, so if you needed anything for map completion, go now. I went with all my lvl 80 toons (both of them, lol) and completed EB. This was with my guardian, my main. Later, when I was leveling up my mesmer, going to WvW to get those POI’s and vistas showed me the power of invisibility, blink, and confusion. Now, WvW is so much fun to go roam with my mesmer that I make it a point to get there once a day for the dailies. I was staunchly anti-WvW (fear of getting stomped and armor repair costs) when this game launched, and now it’s a staple of my game day play.

You’re in the wrong spot. The place to stand is by the mortars, which SHOULD be all manned or you risk failure, on the left and middle of the 3 sets of mortars. When the Vigil guy shouts, “It’s shooting crystals,” the crystals will be targeted at the turrets (which you can also use to get credit for the event) and the mortars and people on the mortars. Sometimes, if you’re closer to the dragon on that little mound where everyone stands, people not on the mound but closer to being in front of the dragon may get hit by crystals as well, but this is not as reliable as when the crystals hit people on the mortars. So next time you’re there, encourage people to man the mortars, tell them you’ll protect them (use the turrets if no Lieutenants are attacking the mortar operators) and wait for the crystals.

I was once there during the Escape from LA story, and almost no one was at The Shatterer. Someone did the pre event, and then WP’d over to wait for the dragon, and we noticed there were only 6 of us. Wondering if we even had a chance, we gave it a go anyway. Four of us took mortars, while two went close range to distract the crystals, and the six of us beat it with a little less than 10 seconds left on the timer. Two weeks later, no one was on the mortars (except me) and about 20 people were on the mound next to the dragon, and it failed miserably.

What a disappointment.

Considering the very limited amount of skills GW2 has to GW1, balance in GW1 was more difficult simply due to the vast numbers of skills and duplicates of skills that you could have on your skill bar. This game does not give players that option. GW1 also allowed you to equip FOUR different weapon sets with no cooldown on swap compared to this game’s TWO sets with a cooldown on swap.

Curious, are you thinking of any specific skills that are under/over powered in PvP?

I just may get flamed for bringing up GW1 and Guild Halls, but here goes….

Guild Halls had the very cool feature that you could invite anyone to them and create a battle, whether 1v1, or whatever, up to the max party size. The idea was that you could practice your GvG skills in your hall and test PvP builds. If you wanted to duel someone who wasn’t in your guild, you just invited them to guest in your Hall and you were all set. Perhaps the devs might want to consign dueling to the shelf that holds Guild Halls, and make it a function of that. That way, we can all avoid that person or persons that flame people who decline the invitation to duel.

Before I post my top 3, I’d like to thank Bobby and Colin for chiming in on this post. It takes thick skin to read some of the criticism you guys get here, but I’m sure we say it because we love the game you’ve made and we want to help you make it better for us, your customers and fan base. I’m a Guild Wars vet since just after Factions was released, and played Prophecies, Factions, Nightfall, and Eye of the North (and still do). So here are my top 3, in no particular order:

1) More permanent content. Putting the F&F dungeon (or a small portion of it anyway) in Fractals was a good idea. However…

Player 1: Let’s do the Flame and Frost dungeon!
Player’s Party: Yeah! One of us never got to see it, so let’s do it!
Party enters Fractals, gets Aquatic Ruins, Snowblind, Volcanic, Solid Ocean Fractal (which I LOVE as a nod to Factions).
Player 1: Let’s do it again and do the Flame and Frost dungeon!
Players Party: Umm… that took us almost 2 hours, and we didn’t get the F&F dungeon. But, ok, one of us is new and never got to see it.
Party enters Fractals, gets Swampland, Urban Battlegrounds, Cliffside, Captain Mai Trin Boss Fractal.

Five hours after the party had the desire to do the F&F dungeon, and they never got to do it.

2) “Endgame” rewards, or in this case, End Story rewards, with NO RNG, similar to what we got for completing Prophecies, Factions, and Nightfall. We knew that completing each would net us, in order, a Deldrimor Talisman, Amulet of the Mists, and Book of Secrets that we could exchange for a weapon of our choice that would show others that we’d completed that campaign. We didn’t have to HOPE we got it from a random loot drop. We knew what we were working towards. Giving us that opportunity for the next LS chapter would be a very nice thing indeed. And make it best-in-slot (i.e. ascended), just like the original Guild Wars weapons were.

3) No more events that requite the full attention of everyone on the map. All 150 players, or fail. Let’s take the Knights as the best example. EVERYONE in LA had to do the knights when they come up. 50 people on each knight means you have a CHANCE of success. Oh, but wait…. 10 are farming heirlooms, 12 are farming champs, 5 are working on dailies and killing whatever is needed there and don’t have time for the knights event, 3 are AFK and still thinking they’ll be leeching rewards somehow, 7 are still looking for Peter cuz that’s the only achievement they need for the meta, and 3 are doing jumping puzzles and vistas so they can compare screenies from “pre-searing LA”. So the Knights event is short 40 people and doesn’t scale down, leading to all the complaints. Many times on Ehmry Bay, people didn’t even make the attempt because they knew it would fail, since we didn’t have a full zone. Large scale events CAN work, like Marionette, but there weren’t too many other options in Lornar’s Pass to distract players. Getting back to the F&F dungeon, that was great because we could go in with a party of our choice, and we had no one but ourselves to blame if we failed. Now, an Elder Dragon would, of course, be a different story, but please don’t give people a choice of seven or eight other things to do in the zone while it’s up.
