The new borderlands are just a re-skinned version of the alpine borderlands. However, they have more square feet of surface due to the verticality of the map. I was in the last beta for the new maps, and yes, everyone was getting lost. But having spent some time running around the new map, I’m getting more familiar with the twists and turns in the Air and Fire keeps. Sure, some servers may have dead maps, but others certainly do not.
The bottom line is this: we will not get the Alpine Borderlands back any time soon. Deal with it. If you want to argue with me, then please present an instance wherein Anet said, “Sorry! We’ll go back to what it was pre-change toot-sweet!” Sure, they said we may get them back for a WvW tournament, but that hasn’t been announced so don’t hold your breath.
A lot of WvW players don’t consider EotM “real” WvW because there is no server loyalty in EotM. Many WvW players play for server pride. Were that not the case, many people would have transferred to lower tiers to avoid the que experienced at higher tiers. It’s a lot easier to say, “I hate that server!” than it is to say, “I hate the green team!” when you might be green next week. If Anet goes to the “color faction” system in “real WvW”, it will drive another nail in the coffin of WvW.
I put a topic on this in the bugs forum and it got buried under desert borderland complaints. I’d thought this issue was addressed already. It seems it only happens in EBG, but I could be wrong.
Like the topic says, thieves with short bows and rangers (presumably with long bows?) were shooting through the walls and gates in Eternal Battlegrounds about 20 minutes ago. I thought I’d read that this was fixed, but apparently (or obviously) not.
Specifically, Durios’ east facing wall, and the gates at Stonemist Castle.
Since beta, I’ve only missed about 5 days of log in to GW2. I used to play DCUO but got to the gear treadmill part of the game (which is after all the cool story stuff) and didn’t care for that. Tried LOTRO but didn’t care for the combat or (and I know this may sound shallow) the character’s faces. Everything EXCEPT the faces looked good, but if my toon’s face looks like a newspaper cartoon on top of a photographic body it just wrecks my immersion. Tried SWTOR, and although it looks beautiful the fighting is lackluster at lower levels (compared to here) so I gave up on that as well. GW2 is the only game I play now, with the sole exception of Axis and Allies Global 1940 Second Ed.
I’m guessing this was on the same non-list as Veteran Kill and Ruin Cap for the WvW dailies. Those got fixed- let’s hope this gets fixed too.
Note the 10 stacks for “abandon”, but it says disconnecting does not grant dishonorable. If that’s truly what you did, file a bug report.
Not saying you did or did not, but last 2 times I DC’d from a pvp match (before loading the 64 bit client- have yo done that?) I did not receive any dishonor.

Nope. The implementation of the dishonor system was long overdue. However, they DID mention that a disconnect should not put dishonor on you. Just wait it out.
Oh, and I’ve gotten 3 ascended armor chests from WvW rank up chests.
Hit all the rich nodes you can with every toon you can- rich iron, rich platinum, rich mithril. Mystic Forge karma armor from low tier vendors (if you have enough karma). I had over 10 million karma at one point, am down to around 5 million and change, just from low tier light armor vendors that I’d toss into the Mystic Forge. Do it as soon and as fast as you can, because when Anet realizes what’s happening, they’ll nerf it so we all have to use zaced.7948’s method.
For me, loads on the 32, not the 64.
Are you using the 64 bit client and still getting lag? I’ve never lagged during the core event, and last night when we were doing it on our home BL (Ehmry), a bunch of DH and SF attacked us (they each had a few large zergs running around on our home bl) and we have a nice little skirmish. No one on Teamspeak complained about lag.
Apparently not too many people on Ehmry Bay, Sorrows Furnace, and Darkhaven have quit, because the Ehmry Borderland was chock full of ALL of them pretty much all last night. Seemed like there were at least 2 roaming zergs for each server, with Ehmry outnumbered. And they’re learning map mechanics. Seems they haven’t found the secret passages yet, though, which is fine by me. But seriously, good times were had by all.
Those that have quit- did you know that the daily completion chest gives you an XP boost for ALL game modes? Want to pvp? Go a wvw daily, get the chest, open it for the boost, and go to pvp? Or go flip camps or take a tower with the boost to rank up.
There was an EPIC 3 way fight in SM last night that lasted about an hour, with Ehmry Bay, Darkhaven, and Sorrow’s Furnace. Granted it wasn’t on the new BL’s, but it was still a pretty epic battle. After, some of each group seemed to go to the other’s home BL’s and started flipping stuff.
Get used to the maps, please. Direct your energy at Scribe, and the fact we had ALREADY unlocked stuff for WvW that they took away from us and put behind a huge crafting/gathering/gold sink/paywall.

Logged in just to comment that I have seen this lately, too. Yesterday I had guild missions, was lucky with drops, and hit a few world bosses. I got 9 rares and one exotic. Salvaged the rares with Mystic kit, got ONE ecto, salvaged the exotic with a BL kit and get this- I got ONE mithril lump. Talk about p’d off… Not salvaging anything else till we see another patch.

omg, wouldn’t that be epic? The lower tiers play on the old Alpine BL’s, and people on the higher tiers can get there instead of waiting in que by taking the portal and playing for the corresponding color on the lower tier Alpine map.

Shadow, are you sure that’s it? Do you think the cost of leveling up scribe so we can build guild AC’s that cost about 10 gold worth of materials has anything to do with it? The fact that we can’t +5 a camp as easy as we used to, and had already unlocked that by spending influence and it is now behind a crafting wall, along with the vitality, toughness, and other boosts we’d built before? That we can only claim one objective PER GUILD, not per map like we used to, making our oh so expensive upgrades less effective?
Your signature says FA- I’m on Ehmry Bay. Your server helped me develop a love of WvW, so if you quit I have to honestly say I’ll miss you. We may have even killed each other on the field at some point and hooted at our team mates about it. Yeah, we agree we don’t like what Anet did, but I’m still running around the borderlands when I play, trying to learn all the spots for tricky cata placements that can hit outer and inner, where I can blink and where I can’t, where the AC needs to go and where it should never go, and the treb, and the bali, and the shield generator (which is actually kinda cool), and you sound like (not sure you’re still playing in the borderlands) you’ve given up. I have a favor to ask: please don’t give up. Come flip some camps, shrines, and keeps, but direct your outrage at the lousy way they designed scribe.

“Low population rules” would pander to…. just who exactly? So points they score aren’t equal in value to points you score? Please explain how that levels the playing field and adds incentive for people to play in the hours deemed unfit for equal points?
Add to that the cost of just getting the guild upgrades unlocked, and it seems pretty costly for so little benefit.
If you control all the air shrines and have the buff, you don’t take any falling damage.
Now does that make sense?
I find it odd that some people start to ping at over 9000 during the collect event and others are completely unaffected. I recall a post from quite a while ago where the devs went around and around with someone trying to figure what was causing lag when one specific player was on the map and it turned out to be something with one players client. (Am I remembering this correctly? Couldn’t find the post to link here- anyone else remember that?) I wonder if that’s the case here. How can some be crippled and others have no lag at all?
Any time anyone mentions “night capping” in a negative way, it makes me cringe! People from around the world play this game 24/7; day for one group of people is night for another, and not everyone who lives in the EU plays on an EU server, and not everyone that lives in NA plays on an NA server. Some people work days and play GW2 at night, some work nights and play GW2 during the day. In short:
THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS NIGHT CAPPING.
So please, for the love of all things pixelated, stop using that term.

Dunno what server you’re on, but the 2 servers mine is against seem to like flipping our stuff and defending theirs. Spend some time running around and familiarizing yourself with the map- it’s not THAT bad. But a lot of the population has been pulled away into the new raid, it would seem, so their participation in WvW hasn’t been what it used to be. But as I said, there ARE people playing on the new borderlands.
Oh, and when you check it out, try flipping an air shrine with your MF boosted- they drop charged lodestones. I’ve gotten 2 so far, and have seen several others get them from air shrines. Good luck!
Wow…. maybe they DON’T want you to craft an AC that way. I mean, looking at it logically. Maybe they’re trying to show you how good we have it with the mystic forge recipe?
Hopefully they’ll severely reduce what’s needed for a lot of the recipes, as several of them seem ridiculous. Sorry, not seem, ARE ridiculous.

I’m seriously disappointed that the Fire and Air keep WP’s are contested for the home team. One of the complaints I see most when reading these forums is that it takes forever to get back to the action if you die. Making the WP’s contested for the home team sort of takes away the meaning of “home borderlands”. It should be harder for the enemy to move around OUR borderland than it is for us, NOT the other way around.

Good points, good ideas. I’ll not quibble about any minor points I may disagree with, but over all I like the idea of using the HoT PvE reward system. It could be tied to the tick, every 15 minutes. But if you log into wvw 4 min 55 sec before the tick, you are not eligible for the rewards for that tick. You still get a chance for drops from everything you kill, and you’re on the map for the next 15 minute reward period, attacking, defending, scouting, etc., for that reward tick. It should be pretty doable- after all, isn’t SW like WvW dropped in PvE, with the Mordrem acting as the other two servers attacking your towers and supply dolyaks?
Fortunately for me, my guild still plays in the new BL’s. We’re seeing a lot of fights in the southern sections of the BL’s, where our spawn is in other BL’s. There’s a lot of camp flipping and attacking and defending the southern towers.
I’m disappointed that the auto-upgrades aren’t effected by the supply chain. It doesn’t seem logical coming from the previous system. IMHO, they should only upgrade if there is available supply, taken from the tower’s depot. If supply is cut off, no upgrade should happen. Also disappointed that we have no WP’s in Fire and Air keeps. Is this something that is stuck behind guild upgrades? If so, shame on you for locking us out of something we had previously unlocked (like +5 supply and all the other guild claim bonuses we’d spend influence on). BL’s might have more people playing if getting around the map was a little easier. I don’t mean the maze-like paths in some places, I mean waypoints in fire and air keeps.
I have to admit, though, that the keeps in the new BL’s are quite beautiful.
Edit to say I miss the gathering nodes. Sure we have them at camps, keeps, and towers, but no opportunities any more for rich veins anywhere. Total available gathering materials on the new maps seem to be less than half of what we had access to in the old borderlands.

I was fortunate enough to have access to the last WvW beta, and one of the things I noticed was that there was no type of ruin anywhere to cap, but there were shrines. I mistakenly assumed that someone was on the ball from the beginning, making note that removing the ruins would effect the daily achievement list. Imagine my surprise when on day 1 of the desert maps (maybe it was day 2) there was “cap ruin” on the daily, and I went and tried a shrine. Well, I had to imagine my surprise as well, because after the cap when nothing happened, my first thought, sadly, was, “Typical….”
How do you forget something like this, and having forgotten, how do you let it linger?
Boggles the mind. These forums are filled with posts calling for mesmers to be nerfed because of stealth and complaining about thieves one shotting out of stealth. After reading through the pros and cons, I have to say I am not looking forward to this. And I play a mesmer!
I stopped playing season 2 because of the bug reports and lack of fixes. Same with personal story- had it done on only one of my main toons, was going to do it solo but with all the bug reports, I REALLY don’t want to bug out….
But with this glaring lack of reward for completion, where’s the incentive to do the story?
I don’t care WHAT color people in my party show up as, AS LONG AS THEY SHOW UP on the mini map!
Please…. in the future, if it ain’t broke, please don’t try to fix it. And if you break it while trying to fix what ain’t broken, PLEASE just REVERSE what you did.
You tried to change the color of the dot on the minimap if someone is in the same guild, but instead you broke the dot on the minimap so it doesn’t work, and the color is random. GG.
Choxie discovered an exploit with tonics. Maybe he and the viewers reported it en masse, that’s probably why arenanet fixed it quickly/included in this patch.
Holey Moley! That IS game breaking! I had no idea this was doable before the patch.
After watching that video, I’m completely changing my tune and agreeing with the nerf.
There are so many other game breaking bugs in this game that are actually acknowledged as game breaking bugs. Show me anywhere where Anet said centaur runes should never work with an infinite tonic and I’ll change my opinion.

Xiune, I don’t like focus because the phantasm just stands in one spot and is too easy for an opponent to dodge. Thank you for your comment “carry a focus… with focus, mimic, and blink you can move fairly quick.”
Not to mention, before I changed to centaur runes I came here to search for any evidence that their previous behavior with infinite tonics WAS a bug or glitch. No such evidence was found. Evidence WAS found that this was an accepted speed boost and superior alternative to trav runes. Had any dev at any time said on THESE forums that this was unintended and would be fixed in the future, I would not have made the change. Accusing me of glitching or abusing something that was accepted behavior is just wrong.
Focus is garbage. Anet never said it was a glitch or bug. And I have no idea what “propositally” means. Trav runes seriously degrade power on a zerk build.

PU is a super OP mesmer build and has nothing to do with pugs. When you get burst for 30k in 1s from stealth then congrats you were killed by a PU mesmer.
I think we are actually moving towards balance for once.
I have played a PU mes for 2 years, and have never approached anywhere near 30k in 1s from stealth. I’ve been hit harder by thieves, but never, ever, have I received that much damage from a mesmer, let alone dealt that much.

Why was this done? I put centaur runes on my mesmer’s armor because mesmer is the slowest class in the game, and carried infinite tonics to give me a speed boost in wvw. Now I’m back to having a speed boost for only 5 of every 10 seconds. Its not like I was the only one doing this in wvw- its been going on for over 3 years. Other classes have 25% speed boost signets, but not mesmer. Oh, but we have blink! Sorry, no. Even with blink, mesmer’s cannot keep up with the zerg. And no, staff 2 is not 100% reliable if I want to go forward.
I really want to keep playing this game, but you keep nerfing our work-arounds.

The whole freakin’ map is a puzzle.
“Alpine borderland is way bigger”?!?!? Did you even play the new desert map?!?! The new map looks to be about 30 stories deep. I don’t think Alpine is close to that deep. Time a run from north camp to south camp on Alpine, then attempt to do the same on Desert, and note your times. East to west, too. If you can do it. I tried, but kept getting lost and side tracked on Desert, but when that would happen, I’d mostly be close to or past my Alpine run time without getting anywhere near my Desert objective, let alone half way to my destination.
You didn’t notice it said “Beta only” on the sup siege list?
