WvW: No credit for kills?

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Sinbold.8723

Had this happen last night in WvW a few times. Hit a camp, I’m the first one to hit the claimer, auto-attack it and it gets zerged down pretty fast, but no credit for the kill and no loot. Attack a tower, I’m the first one up the ramp to hit the lord, AA again, lord gets zerged down and I get no credit for the kill and no loot. It only happened twice, but in the same circumstances previous through 415 WvW ranks, it never happened.

Mr. Vaughn, I have to ask if you (and the Anet staff responsible for the PS changes) ever heard of Ann Landers. For those not familiar with her, she was an advice columnist in the great days of newspapers. She had a lot of witticisms and rules that she would apply while giving answers to problems in her advice column. With this change in the personal story, Anet has broken one of the biggest rules Ann Landers made for living a better life:

“If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.”

Job-o-Tron, as he was first known, was never supposed to receive the development he received, according to (I think) Scott McGough, one of the writers. This was mentioned in either a Ready Up or POI video. He was developed because of player feedback, and is truly a product of the Living Story. Most of us like his story, and even if a player doesn’t like him, that player is aware of the changes he’s gone through. It would be a darn shame if he were left in the dust bin.

And YES! Another mini of him without the Wintersday lights would be awesome, especially if he were to spout some of his famous dialogue every once in a while, like some GW1 minis would make their monster noises (jungle troll for example). “Small-talk-initiated: Hot-enough-for-you?” Please, Anet?

I think it would be nice if LA could get some clean up of Breachmaker pieces going, and Kessex could get rid of fallen tower chunks. Re-purpose these things like the ship hulls were when LA was built after the flood. I think if we as players could see a gradual change in LA as it gets cleaned up, it would help us feel immersed a lot more than we are currently. We’ve seen “workers” hammering away at debris for how long now, and nothing’s changed. Heck, in WvW when the “workers” get going, towers and keeps change within the hour! (Ok, its not cosmetic, but you get my drift, right?) Maybe we need to get those “workers” out of the Mists and put them to work in LA.

No reward from The Shatterer unless zerging

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Sinbold.8723

Yeah, buggy, and from your post it sounds like you should have been rewarded for participation. Especially if you are killing adds near the mortar and cannon.

Question, though: you said, “combat log…shows two hits from The Shatterer.” When you fired the cannon, did you have The Shatterer targeted, and did you get numbers? i.e., did your combat log say, “You hit The Shatterer for xxx damage.”? That makes a difference. Manning the cannon and shooting in the direction of kitten without targeting means you may miss. Cannon is NOT like the mortar, it must be targeted to do damage. If a player were to only do that, they would not hit the boss and would not get any credit for the event. I know, as I did it once to test.

An end to server loyalties and just play

in WvW

Posted by: Sinbold.8723

Sinbold.8723

I play WvW on a lower tier server, and before I get to the meat of your suggestion I would like to address something about your perception.

“At the end of the week you will be one of the other two colors no matter what, and on the third week you will be the third color. Rinse and repeat, forever until GW2 servers are shut down.” If you had read through these forums, you’d have seen people trying to get map completion and complaining they were the same color 3 or more weeks in a row. You may consider it nitpicking, but your statement here is untrue.

“W3 will become more than just a massive zerg train where everyone follows just one commander, …” My server, once as low as you could go in the tiers, has recently moved up in tiers. What you say here seems to be true of the servers my server has been matched against in the higher tiers more often, most likely because higher population on the server means a higher number of WvW players on the server.

“… when instead there should be multiple squads throughout the map, each helping to take different objectives.” This is primarily what I experienced during my time in WvW when we were in the lowest ranks, when I cut my teeth in WvW. Season 2 of WvW brought me in for the achievements, and I found I really enjoyed it. This, to me as a player, is where the real challenge is in this game. It has every element of the game encompassed from PvP to PvE. After megaserver hit and the challenge of a world event on a low population server was gone (The Shatterer with 6 people, pre-Teq update Teq with 5, soloing Golem MarkII, Claw of Jormag with 10-16, and yes I have screenshots), WvW still gave a challenge (as long as there was no 100 man zerg ktraining, but that was nonexistent at the lower tiers). It’s still done, but the small havoc squads can be responded to a lot faster on a higher population WvW server.

Seasonal rewards and achievement awards are 2 different things. Winners of the seasonal contest get currency they can trade for Mystforged and Hero weapon skins, and other goodies. The meta achievement reward is (was) a group of achievement chests.

You do bring up some things I agree with. This especially: “The passive W3 server wide bonuses (such as the crafting/gathering bonuses) are really all there is as far as a ‘reward’ goes, and you really don’t notice it much because it is still at the mercy of this game’s brutal RNG.” Very true of weekly matches.

Its the server pride thing, though, that has to stay, cuz…reasons. And the tiers, because that’s tied to server pride. So rather than dismiss your idea outright, I’ll give it my take. So here goes….

Take the WvW population as a whole. What’s the population of the top single servers? What’s the population of the lowest servers? Rather than combine JUST the lowest population servers, as someone has suggested in another post, combine the populations by server until there are X number of WvW teams with equal populations. Do the lowest 3 population servers equal one tier one server in size? Fine. Combine them. But here’s where my idea takes a turn: Redesign EBG, and, brace yourselves ‘cause here it comes, ADD ANOTHER COLOR OR TWO TO EBG. Heck, maybe more than 2. Each color still has its own borderlands, but now there are up to seven, that’s 7, borderlands. The top tier servers, with their WvW populations, are Red, Orange, Yellow borderlands. Maybe a tier 2 server is big enough, so they’re Green bl. Or the maps are large enough so the top 4 populations are 2 WvW teams. Blue, Indigo, and Violet borderlands are populated with the rest of the servers teamed up with equal WvW populations. To keep a sense of server pride, a sub-score is kept within each color showing the number of points your server has contributed to the overall score. This could also do away with EotM and the Queensdale-like toxic atmosphere that can exist there, or just have that map be another borderlands map. Since This idea would make the server populations of WvW players larger, each map would be able to accommodate more players and eliminate the need for EotM, which was player ques for WvW. If there’s a technical reason the map populations cannot be made larger, hey, no problem! We’ve got SEVEN WvW maps and EBG now. If your havoc group can’t get into EBG, you can always give the Blue home borderlands some grief. And to make map completion a tiny bit easier, each week your server/team DOES switch colors for your home borderland and starting keep in EBG. So it would take seven weeks to do a full borderland rotation, or however many colors are added. Low population server players complaining about the difficulty of map completion now just have to have a little patience, rather than a lot of patience and larger group.

Please feel free to agree, disagree, pick apart, add to, or subtract from this idea.

This has happened to me twice so far, playing my mesmer, and only after I purchased a commander tag. Commander tags… player speculation with no hard facts… about par for the course for players. I’ll withhold judgement until you know… Anet actually announces the feature.

Precursor crafting… You win on that one, Anet has really dropped the ball here.

You did see the gamescom interview where a dev said yes, they cost 300g now and you have to buy each color individually right? I mean, that was the announcement…

I think Zudet was referring to the 300g per color rumor that players have been spreading around like crazy despite no confirmation (that I’m aware of). It was said 300g would be the cost, and that you would have to buy each color separately, and that there is no particular order in which you must get them, however, it is yet to be confirmed that each tag after the first will be 300g.

Which is really stupid, because if a single person with the relevant information at ANet came and looked at the forums, they could probably make that clarification for us.

http://www.guildmag.com/preview-september-2014-feature-pack/

If you watch the video, skip to 2:30, and right out of the horses mouth comes confirmation. Also, here’s a copy and paste from the article:

“Commander System

With the September 2014 Feature Pack, the commander tag will become an account-wide system. There will be four colors (blue, yellow, red and pink) to purchase at a price of 300 gold (up from 100 gold before). These colors will not have a pre-designed hierarchy. If you’ve already unlocked the blue tag the patch will update this tag to become available for the whole account. If you purchased four tags or more before the upcoming feature pack releases, you’ll be able to get a refund by contacting support."

NOT a rumor. You’re welcome.

Probably NOT that easy to fix, but it’s annoying that the TP still has 1 copper buy orders for things that have a merch price of 1 silver 99 copper, or that the TP will allow you to sell things at a loss (even though you get a warning). Please do not allow 1 copper buy orders for anything, or buy orders that net the seller less than merchant price.

Another one of these threads? (Insert “beating a dead horse” gif here.) I’m on a Tier 8 server for WvW, and while it may have taken a while, it is still doable. The thing is, you’re so used to running around in PvE where there’s no challenge to mapping that when it DOES become a challenge, you don’t like it because you can’t accomplish it as easy as mapping Queensdale.

Here’s a suggestion: Ask in map chat if anyone else needs a POI or vista that you need. If there are people that do need it, group with them and go get it or take it. Keep your eye on the matchups to see when your server has a Borderland you need to map. Yes, its a pain when your server is the same color for 3 weeks in a row, but it WILL change at some point. The WvW community is a fun bunch, and most likely will group with you to help. You’ll also get good loot. Every time you gain a WvW level, you get a rank up chest with cash and drops, each tower gives a champ loot bag, and you get ascended crafting mats if you’re level 80.

Are you upleveled when you go to WvW? It might help to be level 80 with full exotics all around, and food buffs. If you haven’t yet leveled up your crafting to 400 chef, and whatever armor and weapons you use, do that first so you’re not spending your hard earned gold on food buffs, armor, and weapons. You get achievement points for it, too. These forums have good topics on WvW builds for your class, so check those out as well. I’ll wager that when you get with a group that takes that tower you need the POI from, and stick with them when they take Bay, Hills, or Garrison on a Borderlands map, or a few other towers or camps, you’ll be hooked on the unique fun that is WvW.

One suggestion: always have supply!

To make matters worse, guilds organize on all three sides and monopolize the map by intentionally avoiding each other and griefing defenders (typically by mass reporting the player with false accusations).

Its utterly disgusting what EotM has become, and I was a huge fan of it before and just after launch! Its Queensdale Train 2.0 and it makes me sick!

And where is the Queensdale Champ Train now? And why? So, will we see an even-handed application of justice in EotM?

The Queensdale Champ Train was vilified on these forums because of the toxic atmosphere generated by people griefing anyone doing a champ out of order. Some argued that those killing champs out of order were the griefers. Was it nerfed because QD is a starter zone? Is EotM a starter zone? There seems to be an awful lot of uplevels there doing the K-train. Then there’s the Frostgorge Champ Train. Or was. That has been nerfed as well. Did anyone complain about the Frostgorge train? Not nearly as much, afaik, on these forums, but it was nerfed as well. One could say it was nerfed because of the economic impact of champ farming. So if EotM has turned into the exact same thing that the former champ trains used to be, does that mean we will see some sort of nerf there as well?

Uplevels are fine. A few weeks ago I was playing very late on a weekday night/morning and wanted to take our keep back in EBG. I was running with a bunch of uplevels and didn’t even know it at the time. We’d taken back the 3 towers closest to our main keep when I suggested we take the keep. “No, we’re a bunch of uplevels,” was the reply. “We’ll get crushed!” I have no idea why they thought they could take Durios, Langor, and Bravost, but not the main keep, but I talked them into it, and we did it. Just 6 of us- me on my mez, and a guild group of 5 uplevels. Granted, we were just about the only ones on the map at the time, but it went smooth as butter and they learned a bit of strategy at the same time. When they come back as lvl 80’s, they’ll be great.

lol just proved you don’t know what gvg in gw2 is.

You are quite correct. My original small guild goes to the PvP lobby and plays team arena. In GW1, we GvG’d a LOT. We weren’t high ranked (or ranked at all for that matter), but we had fun. Our best memory is when we got matched up against a Spanish guild ranked #20 on the ladder and took them to overtime with the Guild Lords in the center of our Guild Hall. We lost, but barely, as their Lord was at about 5% health at the end of the match. They PM’d us and gave us a lot of compliments, which I thought was cool. A little while later, we even got some join requests from people that watched in observation mode. I saved my build as “Spanish Overtime”.

Anyway… Care to enlighten me on how it’s done? Number of people on each team, etc. It’d be greatly appreciated.

Why do you run?

in WvW

Posted by: Sinbold.8723

Sinbold.8723

When I play my PU condi mesmer, I CAN’T run, so I have to stay and see if I can down anyone. Thieves and warriors may run from me, but I cannot chase them, so I don’t. If I’m trying to take a camp and 3-5 of the enemy show up, I’m hosed because I’m way outnumbered. Can’t run with a PU condi build, so I try to do as much damage as I can before I get overwhelmed. If I’m running a power mesmer build and I’m outnumbered, I’ll try to run to get to the water, as I feel I’m more powerful under water with that build. There have been times when I’m trying to catch up with the commander to get in on taking a keep or tower when I’m confronted by 3-5 enemy and I have to engage. The other day, I actually came out on top in this situation, and the adrenaline rush and amazement I felt at winning that encounter was the best drug ever available in a game format. Still have no idea how I won that encounter….

If I’m on my guardian, nothing can run from me. Thieves might kill themselves while I have so much retaliation up, and they might choose to run, but most come back after all their cooldowns are up. If I’m significantly outnumbered, I’ll try to run somewhere to even the odds, whether its to another group of players or NPC’s. If I lose and get stomped, it’s a learning situation. Gotta admit, I don’t mind losing to someone who stomps me with a cool finisher. As I mentioned in another post, when the quaggan finisher came out, I got stomped by it and didn’t pay attention till I noticed the end of the animation. I actually chased that player down again and fought half-heartedly just so I could see the finisher again close up.

The only weapon I didn’t like was the great sword, because it looks like an over sized butter knife (imho). I absolutely agree with the reasons everyone gave as to which was their favorite. I was torn between the sword, shield, axe, and mace. I ended up going with the mace, even though my guardian hardly ever uses a mace, just because of the shiny chrome look of the sphere and its reflective quality.

Look guys, the ones that say that have loads of them. First, you probably do not convert them into ingots, secondly you need 10 ingots per ascended thing whether a weapon or armor set, that’s 1000 ores right there. And as I said, I had way more than I needed on my account, but since the last few patches there is NO decent way of obtaining those. Dragonites DO NOT drop for killing champs/supply camps/towers in WvW, only from keeps (E.g. hills, bay, garri), how often do you flip those 3 as a red server hm?

As often as possible! You forgot to mention Stonemist Castle drops Dragonite, too. I like to attempt each one at LEAST once a night. Don’t always succeed, but the challenge is there, win or lose, and that’s what I play for. And there are 3 borderlands maps, each with its own set of Bay, Hills, and Garri, so that makes for a lot of chances, and I don’t have to wait for a timer. Ever take Hills or Bay with 4 people? Way more fun than auto-attacking a world boss every 15 minutes, imo.

Back on topic, hitting all the World Bosses in a night of playing should net a bunch as well. that_shaman put together a great list on his timer that shows how much Dragonite each boss drops. If you haven’t seen it, check it out here: http://dulfy.net/2014/04/23/event-timer/

This runs contrary to what a dev said on these forums a little over a year ago. I’ve tried finding the post for hours with no luck, so no, I can’t link to it. The dev was commenting on running solo vs running with a party and specifically said that your rewards would be the same regardless. Do you have evidence that this is true, or is it speculation based on experience?

After doing the Trio in Frostgorge several times without getting the bonus chest for completing all 3 within the time limit, I posted a similar question here and it was suggested that I switch to zerker or similar gear with power as the first stat. Without being in a party but with using my zerker gear on my guardian, I started getting the bonus chest more often. Not 100% of the time, but more often than not.

Since I was doing it for the loot and wasn’t getting it 100% of the time, I stopped doing the world boss train entirely. I’ll jump in for a few champs when I’m gathering mats in Frostgorge, but it’s no longer a staple of my game play. When Season 2 of WvW started, I began playing a lot more WvW to complete the Season 2 meta, and noticed that I got as much or more loot than I was getting in PvE. I added the birthday booster to get my WvW level up faster, and that’s when the rares and exotics began piling up. My magic find stat without boosters is 129% currently, so the birthday booster improved that drastically. It seemed I leveled up with each keep or camp taken, and each level up chest gives 16-25 silver, Badges of Honor, and loot. My best evening was a 4 hour stint in WvW that netted 10 gold in rares and exotics sold on the TP, and I kept the 2 best exotics (with the best sell prices) for myself (which, oddly enough, were http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Honor_of_Humanity and http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Firebringer in the same night!).

Before megaservers I used to have the same issue. After megaservers, being on a low population server (Ehmry Bay), I found the mega-zerg fest at world bosses a joke that took away all the challenge (can’t do The Shatterer with 6 people or Jungle Wurm with 3 guildies for the challenge anymore). So I moved to WvW, where you CAN get a challenge. Now I have SO MUCH Dragonite and Empy Fragments that I delete them now.

I strongly suggest you spend an evening ignoring the snore-fest that is the world boss train and help your server in WvW by taking camps and keeps. If you spend as much time in one evening in WvW as you do on the world boss train, you’ll have so much Dragonite that you’ll be deleting it before you log off at the end of the evening.

Oh, and every time you gain a WvW level, you get between 16-25 silver, Badges of Honor, and a loot chest. With the birthday booster, you’ll level up pretty fast and get as many or more rares as you’d get from the world boss train. Like one level per keep/camp taken. Bring your best friends and food boosters! Try it for one night, and I’ll wager you’re hooked.

Thank you, NewTrain! I was about to log in to post almost exactly the same thing, then I scrolled down further and saw your post. Similar function, but not the same. People should note the “spike” end of the warhammer (for piercing armor) is lacking on the mace, as each has a different function on the battlefield.

… innate +25% speed boost,

You missed the part about “mesmer”, didn’t you? I love my mesmer, but is there a slower class in all the MMOverse?

Seriously, though, some great advice in this post. Gotta try Liadri again for hours this year. Hope I can beat her! And good luck, OP!

I hope that if Anet does a Season 3 they change the format. I’d like to see a “pool” system, like we use in fencing for the seeding round before Direct Elimination bouts. Every server gets matched up with every other server, until everyone has been matched against everyone, then tally the results. Not sure how this would work with 3 competitors at a time, but at least we could avoid the most common complaint on this topic- that everyone sees the same servers time after time after time. I’m on Ehmry Bay, and while we’re a low pop server, we seem to have been matched up against Kaineng and Eredon Terrace for the majority of the season. We’re currently matched against Darkhaven and SF, and sometimes the size of their zergs is just mind-boggling when compared to ours. I can’t imagine what it must be like to be on a tier 1 server, but I’d sure as heck like the opportunity to face them for a week, even if it means we get face-rolled.
