I noticed the patch notes say, “Defeating the three assault knights simultaneously is the key to reaching Scarlet’s airship”, and it occurred to me that when the OF I was in killed the knights, it was NOT simultaneously. We did it zerg style, as voted by the OF population. Apparently, no one read the notes….
Is he bugged, or does a zerg of invisible Menders zip by when he’s at 80% health and heal him to 100%?
Why does Anet do this to themselves and us? Seriously….
Same. Killed all 3 Champ Generals, no loot AT ALL, and the Breakdown in Command daily didn’t even update. Still blank for killing ALL 3.
What would have been a great idea would be to allow us to use the leftover pieces when we don’t have enough for a full key. 25 pieces make a key. How about for each piece we have leftover, we can make a makeshift “pick” to pick the lock on the chest, with each piece we have left over contributing 4% to the success of the makeshift lock pick. Got 24 pieces and can’t make a key? Double click them to form a lock pick with a 96% chance of success. Only one piece of that Toxic key? Still got a 4% chance to open the chest with it. That way we still make use of the pieces, even if they fail. I just hate clicking on “destroy” for anything other than bloodstone dust.
Evon is going to help Heal-o-Tron upgrade itself at his own cost. Heal-o-Tron is “free-lance” right now, having paid its debt, so Evon isn’t helping it because he has to. He sees potential return on the investment.
GW1’s Battle of Lion’s Arch, while EPIC (pre-nerf, as I mentioned in another post), didn’t bring the level of destruction we see here. The White Mantle, Mursaat, and Jade wanted to burn the city to the ground, but we, the players and the NPC’s, knew beforehand that their army was coming. In this update, very few NPC’s were convinced LA was going to be attacked and no defenses were prepared.
This is, imho, the worst thing that has hit LA since the flood.
The cut scene gave me chills. I had a choice of logging into a toon in LA or one of my other toons. So I chose the one in LA, remembering that I was at the tailoring station before I logged out before the attack. I was quite apprehensive watching the destruction in the cut scene, wondering what will happen when I get logged in. Hobbs is right above- chaos!
This event reminds me not only of the Searing in Prophecies, but also the Battle of Lions Arch in GW1’s War in Kryta (before it got nerfed, when there were hundreds and hundreds of White Mantle, Jade Armors, and Jade Bows vs. your 8 member party). BoLA finale in WiK was seriously epic before it got toned down, and “plain” epic after the nerf. The sheer scale of chaos and destruction here, I believe, is worthy of being called “epic”!
ROFL! Well done!
In the interview linked above, Colin says, “And I’m sure as we add expansion content we’re going to add more progression and add more levels to the game.”
I really don’t think he used the term “levels” in the manner many people think he did. He spoke of adding them “to the game”, not “to the character”. I think that makes a difference.
So my level 80 guardian has somewhere north of 400 skill points, after spending many of them for various crafting items. If the level cap were raised, wouldn’t my lvl 80 guardian already be level 480+? Yes, he’s earned those skill points for each level earned past 80. Would my toon automatically be lvl 90 if they raised the cap to lvl 90? No, I’d bet not. Would this make ANY sense? Of course not.
If you want a toon higher than level 80, go find another MMO. As the saying goes, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.”
CureForLiving.5360, you answered your own question:
“Why do people like this? My brain can’t comprehend.”
Answered by, “…any mechanic that’s implemented people will attempt to gain the maximum benefit.”
In GW1, you’d put together a set of skills and go out and use them to see if you were getting the maximum benefit. If yes, great. If no, rework and test more.
I put this comment in a thread 2 months ago, so I’ll paste it here:
I think a great way to get some of that GW1 feel back would be to introduce more skills to the weapons we already have. When I equip my sword, I have 3 skills to use- my chain auto attack and slot 2 & 3. Wouldn’t it be nice to be able to choose from a set of skills for each weapon? Example: skillset A is the weapon or offhand as it currently exists. Skillset B would offer a different chain auto attack, and different skills in slots 2 & 3, but with the same cooldowns. GW1 has 19 sword skills, useable by anyone who wants to equip a sword. GW2 allows you 3 skills, or 5 if you count the chain auto attack (but you can’t “click” the 2nd and 3rd in the chain). I’m not saying my guardian should be able to use the sword skills of a warrior, ranger or a thief or mesmer (although some skills could be crossover skills, like Final Thrust, for example). But adding different “sets” of skills to each weapon and off-hand would allow us to get into some of the build varieties we were able to access in GW1. And as a competitive fencer, I feel anyone with a sword should be allowed access to a riposte! In GW1, my warrior has a collection of shields for every situation in the game; +10 armor vs each element and monster available, as well as damage reduction in stance or enchanted, and 20% at +1 for each attribute in the game. (Yeah, my meager GW1 storage is chock full of stuff like that- I’m a hoarder.) In GW2, my heavy armor toons have 2 (4 really) skills for that shield. Mildly disappointing.
I’d also like Anet to allow heavy armor classes, and maybe even ranger, to use the spear on land as a ranged & melee weapon. How cool would that be?
I also understand that this would involve some extra skill balancing, but think of how much it would add to the game.

lordkrall.7241, that’s part of the problem. It happened too early for our toons to be a part of it. It probably shouldn’t have happened that way, or that early in the timeline. Our toons should have been fed that information very early in game. There was a sylvari that went through the schools in Rata Sum blowing away records, and our asuran toons never heard a peep about it while leveling up after launch. It already happened? Fine. Make a reference to it at some point. Zojja could have said at any time, “Don’t get the idea that you’re another Ceara!” And she could have given us a little back story as a qualifier.
Shirogatsu.3150, did you make that? Pretty flippin’ awesome.
I just wish they’d fix it so you’d still get influence for whatever guild you were repping while in OF.
Why do people think LA will be rebuilt?

Despite the spoiler posted by Mortifer.2946 above, my questions is this: What happens when Mad King Thorn shows up in LA next Halloween? That’s HIS city at that time of year. What would motivate him to go to another city? How would he know about Mortifer.2946’s spoiler before Halloween? Wouldn’t he kinda be cheesed off that the city and it’s inhabitants weren’t available to him to command and play with at his favorite time of year?
I think Anet knows that if what darkace.8925 says above takes place, they’ll call a poo-storm down on their heads. If it becomes anything higher than a 1-15 zone and gives better rewards for exploration, the forums will fill up with complaints.

Once I heard that LA was getting bombed, I jumped in with all my alts that didn’t have map completion and got it done. I screenied every vista (which was kinda cool, as afterward I was able to compare day and night screenies), and climbed to my favorite spots to get screenies of the city. I plan on making the attempt of getting to the same spots and getting screenies for comparison after the city burns. Mixed feelings abound.
Have to agree with the many posts discussing the poor way Anet introduced us to Scarlet. Peter Thomas summed it up nicely in his post above. I believe that if our toons had been exposed to her in a dynamic event in Rata Sum or Heolbrak during her rise, many of the criticisms of her wouldn’t exist. Many others WOULD still exist, however, as Peter Thomas has very eloquently pointed out. And the sad thing is that none of the writers saw that their introduction was flawed (in many player opinions) until the backlash on these forums. During or leading up to the LS releases, there should have been announcements about “New Dynamic Event in Rata Sum (or Hoelbrak, or where ever)” introducing us to Ceara BEFORE she became Scarlet, and giving our toons some history with the character, to better immerse us in the LS. Hopefully, the writers have learned their lesson and the next LS will not be so lore-breaking.
Healix, it sounds like you don’t go anywhere in the lane other than the spawn point. Try reading map chat during a fail, or getting in a lane of noobs. Did it ever occur to you that stuff is getting killed quickly specifically BECAUSE of the siege engines and golems? You’ve obviously never played in a lane where those were killed off quickly from noob mistakes, or the barriers disappear from Aetherblade mortars spawning near the top of the lane and champs trot up the land unhindered because no barriers, no golems, and no siege. We should all be as lucky as you.
Wanze, saying, “You can do that with a private arena,” is like telling a city who wants a major sports team that they put together a team anytime and go have a game in the park. You completely miss the point. In GW1, GvG was organized, your guild had a rank and points based on your GvG play. Read this all the way through: http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Guild_vs_guild
And then when you’re done reading, tell me again how I can do ALL THAT in a PRIVATE arena.
(rolls eyes)
Abyss dye?!?! NO! Don’t waste your money. The BEST color for this, to bring out all the subtle details, is Lava. One of my guildies changed their dye channels all to lava color, and you’d think he used several different dyes. Wish I had screenies to post, but I didn’t think to take any for this post.
GW1 had a great and long, involved quest similar to what people have said in this post for obtaining the mini black moa chick. Having that mini was a status thing like a legendary weapon is in this game, and it required a lot of, well…. take a look:
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Black_Moa_Chick
I have no clue about coding or how difficult it would be to implement, but WHY is there no 5 guildies vs 5 guildies in sPvP? It seems like it would be an easy thing to do because there are already 5 person teams in PvP. So why is it we cannot make a 5 person team of our guild members to match up against another guild?
Curious- have you looked at map chat to see what did the damage to you? It should say you were hit for X damage by whatever did it.
During the Marionette event, several of my guildies have said that their skills 4 & 5 will not activate at times. Although I’ve not experienced this bug myself, I’ve seen it in map chat several times. Last night (2/2), someone in a golem in lane 3 was getting flack for not attacking, and said it was because none of his skills would activate. He had taken the golem up to the teleport area and everyone was telling him to go back to the enemy spawn point. Apparently, he was trying to move around to see if it was situational. When everyone put “Just get out of it before it dies!” in chat, he said that even that function would not work. So of course, the golem died and he was downed.
Worse, that was the only golem left in the lane after someone else took the other golem all the way up to the teleport spot and went in with it. After we came back from the platforms, we were one golem short. I think whomever was in that golem was either experiencing the same bug, or made the erroneous assumption that the golem would be there when we got back from the platforms. That player never commented in chat, however, so this is just my speculation.
After reading this I HAD to log in to comment. TheaEvanda, because what you were doing did not give any credit for the event, it became the rule that NO ONE did it at all, leaving the event to fail more often than it should. Siege engines and barricades got ruined by mortars and no one bothered to repair them, leading to less damage being dealt to enemies at the spawn points and no barriers slowing champs from going into the end portals. I sincerely believe this was not thought through well enough in the design phase of the event. Achievements should have been included to give players more incentive to repair siege & barricades and kill Aetherblade mortars.
So, if ant devs read this, can fixing siege and barricade-like activity be rewarded in future events like this?

It used to have magic find stats. But I thought that if one was listed on the TP, it got returned to the lister and became account bound till equipped. Are you clicking “only show available” when you look at the TP? If you were to make it now, or buy one recently made, this is what it would be: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Infinite_Light
We had it in the original Guild Wars, and yes, it was fun. You could look at things a little better. This game is much more beautiful, so many of us would like that feature. I read in another post that it should be coming in this game, but have not seen it confirmed. Second post here mentions it: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/archive/suggestions/Once-Again-Camera-Zoom/first#post3426653
Forgot about the Stormbow, but my main in both games is not a ranger. Agreed, that needs to come back. I’ll second the Magmas Shield, too. See…. told you I couldn’t pick just one.
My point exactly, darkace & Diamond Llama! Now, how do you think key sales would go if there was a small chance to get an ascended armor piece, or even an exotic weapon? They’re big on metrics- let them see how we’re not buying keys anymore and hope they make a change for the better next quarter.
I’d wager that Axialbloom.8109 didn’t like the camera during Liadri.
On topic, love the marionette, don’t care for the wurm event. Who’s idea was it to say:
1) this event will need to have so many people battling so many minions that you won’t be able to see the gound!
2)Let’s put RED CIRCLES OF DEATH all over the ground!
In this game, these two things should be mutually exclusive. Whoever put them together gets not one hundred, but one THOUSAND lashes with a wet, pixelated noodle!
Ok, this is so funny I had to come back to this post and share it. Chatting today on mumble waiting for the marionette to drop (we beat it), and aforementioned guildie is on with us. I got on later that everyone else, and the first thing they tell me is that the mystery has been solved. First, he did play Zephyr Sanctum update, just didn’t like it because he couldn’t get used to the skills needed to travel around. I misunderstood and thought he didn’t play it. (His schedule changes every few weeks from days to nights, so us night players don’t see him for 2 weeks.) Second, he’d saved his Kite Fortunes to use as boosters- remember they gave a random boost for 10 minutes. I think you understand where this is going…. So at some point during a fight or an event, when his food buff ran out and he didn’t want to use a 30, 45, or 60 minute food booster, he’d pop open a Kite Fortune for the 10 minute boost, and NEVER NOTICED that the fortune scraps were coming out of the Kite Fortunes!
So ALL OF YOU who accused him of being a TROLL owe me an apology that I will forward to him. He is not a troll, but he was certainly a ditz!
Jennyflo, you are correct. Ehmry Bay has beaten it more than once, and this has been confirmed in map chat and by my guildies. And no, I didn’t get a screenie.
Over in a Teq forum post, someone had asked for the ability to use WvW siege equipment in the Teq battle. Since the marionette fight is WvW scale in PvE, it really makes sense to have siege weapons and golems and adds to the epic feel. Thanks, devs, for adding that.
Oh, and Evon Gnashblade said at the beginning of Wintersday that LA was Scarlet’s next big target.
omg, perilisk, I’m laughing so hard I’m crying.
I liked the bag of coins and the small and medium guild discoveries. Influence is influence! I could always tell when my guildies bought BL keys- the discoveries would show in the guild history.
Anyone who’s champ farmed for more than 5 minutes has more scrolls of knowledge than they know what to do with. Sure you spend the points with Miyani for stuff to craft, but whose main doesn’t have more than they can spend already?
I was going to buy keys, and if I wasn’t so tired last night, would have done it before logging and going to bed. I want a Zodiac skin for my ascended weapon. However, now I think I should just buy the skin from the TP rather than buy keys, hope I get tickets or scraps, and be happy when I got cash back or influence. And tbh, was hoping for a name change contract for one of my alts. Now, if I spent gems to buy keys, I’d be seriously cheesed off if I got Essence of Luck (50), Essence of Luck (100), and a Scroll of Knowledge.
I’ll always smile when I hear that awesome charr voice near the bank in LA responding to the little human child, “No, YOUR face looks funny. It’s like a little raisin.”
Patch notes tell us:
The following items have been removed from Black Lion Chests:
Karma Booster
Glory Booster
Heavy Bag of Coins
Name Change Contract
Small Guild Discovery
Medium Guild Discovery
1 Copper
The following items have been added to Black Lion Chests:
Instant Trait Reset
Communal Boost Bonfire
Essence of Luck (50)
Essence of Luck (100)
Metabolic Primer
Scroll of Knowledge
WXP Booster
Gathering Booster
So they remove things that are useful and only available from the chest and add Essences of Luck and Scroll of Knowledge? Anyone other than me feel this was a bad change?
Didn’t even consider it being an alpha siege golem, but that round thing on the right shoulder sure gives it away. Good eyes, Mikochan.
Just watched the preview vid again to look closer at whatever is holding the chains for the giant clockwork puppet, and noticed what appears to be Mr. Sparkles fighting with the zerg. Is that who (or what) it is, or could this be the golem of the new asura mentioned?
Well, I don’t care if anyone believes me or my guildie at all. I was just curious if anyone else was getting Fortune Scraps as a drop. This guy couldn’t play AT ALL during the Zephyr Sanctum update, and therefore couldn’t get any scraps. He just bought the air backpiece with his scraps, and last night got a few more as drops, and has no reason to lie about it to his gaming friends who’ve been playing with him through GW and GW2 for 8 years and change. When he first got one, he didn’t even know what it was used for.
Only 1? Oh, man… Can’t do it. Just can’t narrow it down to 1.
Thanks for the great feedback and additional suggestions! I had no idea running a bomb could do so much damage. Gotta try that on my guardian next time.
Nope, certainly not trolling. Honest and upright guy, family man, over 40, been playing GW with him for over 8 years. We’re on Mumble every time we play. And yes, he pings them to us in guild chat when he gets them. Also been verified by another guildie who’s his neighbor (who is also a member of the 8 year & over 40 club), who watched over his shoulder at his house while we’ve been playing and seen it happen.
400 scraps in your bank, and you’ve not traded them for a skin that sells for 60 gold? And this is because… why?
So obviously Gambit and Zaxares, you guys haven’t gotten them as drops either, eh?
Before we heard about the potion bug (10% MORE damage rather than less), we used to mail 4 to one party member, who’d take one and mail the rest to another party member, who’d take one, and so on. This got us around the mail spamming block. Try this maybe?
One of my guildies, who shall remain nameless, is still getting Fortune Scraps dropping for him. A lot. We do a lot of things together like dungeons, fractal runs, and champ trains in Frostgorge and Queensdale. The other night during a Fractal run, he got 5 Fortune Scraps, while the rest of us got none. Nor has anyone else in my guild gotten a Fortune Scrap since the end of the Zephyr Sanctum LS. But my guildie gets them everywhere, every night he plays. I asked in LA map chat once if anyone else was still getting them and got no response. Sure there’s still the weapons specialist at the BLTP that accepts them, but there’s only one person I’m aware of that still gets Fortune Scraps as a drop. I play every night for at least 2 hours, most times more. Said guildie plays 3-5 times a week.
Is this a bug in favor of my guildie? Does anyone else still get them? We’re on Ehmry Bay, if it makes any difference.
After seeing too many people needlessly die from Claw’s ice waves, fear, and ice bombs, I felt compelled to post here.
First off, when Claw first lands, Charrzookas become available at the barrels near the Pact camp on the hill. These barrels are marked on the minimap by orange gears. Many people do not take/use these Charrzookas, feeling instead that their Legendary GS/Bow or whatever do more damage to the ice wall or the Claw itself. These are frequently the people who get downed by the ice bombs, or swept and downed by the ice waves, and complain about the Claw’s fear spam, requiring others to help get them up and slowing the DPS progression vs. the ice wall or the Claw. This is completely unnecessary!
Anet devs have been kind enough to give free access to the Charzookas, and even better, have made the ‘zookas the ultimate defense against ALL of the Claw’s nastiness. Skill 5 on the Charrzooka protects the player from the ice bombs, fear spam, and ice wall. “But it has a 30 second cooldown, and Claw spams fear faster than that!” you say? No problem! While using the skill 5 shield to protect you, you can self-interrupt the skill by moving forward, back, or sideways right after said danger passes. The skill then goes to a 3.5 second cooldown after self-interrupt, allowing you to spam it just as fast as that nasty dragon spams his fear. About to be bombed by falling iceballs? Skill 5 until the bombs fall and you see the words, “Invulnerable!” in white, then move to self-int, hit 1 again to autoattack. Claw has a tell for the fear- both front legs on the ground, big inhale. Hit skill 5, then self-int for the quick cooldown. He may do it again, up to 3 times in a row. If you time it right, you can block all 3 without using any utilities on your bar to cleanse or avoid it. Ice wall about to blow you back to the Pact guns? Same thing- skill 5 till the wall passes, self-int for the quick cooldown, and you’re still in the same spot while everyone around you gets wiped away.
Keep your Charrzooka going in to phase 2, after he’s been hit by the guns and goes to the second area. Here’s where it gets trickier. If you get downed and drop your ‘zooka, pick it up right away when you rally/get rezzed. If you didn’t bring your ‘zooka to phase 2 and want to grab one from a downed player, YOU CANNOT, and further, MUST NOT! During phase 2 the Charrzookas are no longer available, and if you try to pick one up from a downed player, it disappears. PLEASE let the downed player pick up their own Charrzooka! If you don’t have one, get a flame thrower and use it to rid the field of Ice Pillars, clearing the way for the bomb carrying golems. I’ve been at Claw with 15 others, and yes, we beat it by concentrating on clearing the ice pillars, then attacking Claw when he’s stunned.
If you’ve benefitted from this, please share this in map chat before or while fighting the Claw.
