Hmm, I don’t think this should be about Spite vs. Curses, it should be about Curses vs. SR.
The reason why I personally don’t pick Curses and SR together is that I either focus on maxing out Burns, which means I have to pick Reaper’s Onslaught, Vital Persistence and ofc Dhuumfire and camp Shroud for as long as possible, OR I focus on maxing out Scepter conditions (mainly Bleeds + a bit of Torment, Poison) and Chills, which means I have to pick Lingering Curse and Deathly Chill (ofc).
To me it is basically a Shroud build vs. Non-Shroud build discussion.
If you go for Burns and pick SR, you want to get as many Shroud autos in for as long as possible. This favors Spite as the third line imo, because of Shroud #1’s decent direct damage and the reduced time you actually spend on your Scepter/x set.
If you go for Scepter condis + Chill and pick Curses, Spite isn’t necessarily favored over SR, but because you can’t really pick Reaper’s Onslaught because of Deathly Chill, Dhuumfire looses a lot of value. Therefore I think Spite is the better choice as the third line here as well. Depending on the situation it offers additional Chills, boon corruption + Signet might (which works nice with Plague Sending if a lot of condis are thrown at you), or just flat personal damage increase which is never useless.
So, the two condi focused builds I suggest running are:
- Spite/SR/Reaper with focus on Dhuumfire – hybrid Shroud build
- Spite/Curses/Reaper with focus on Scepter conditions and Chill – more condi management/boon corruption heavy Non-Shroud build
I’m currently running the SR dhuumfire build in the open world (new map meta events mostly) and plan on testing the latter in +70 fractals once I find the motivation to actually progress my fractal level that far =P

“Get Crit!”
You deserve a +1 for that mate, lol.
I’m always surprised how many PUG necros don’t know what their class is capable of. It’s really ironic when you think about it, but what I learned from playing Warrior was how to swap weapons and utilities for every encounter.
The same is true for every other class as well though, not a Necromancer specific problem at all. I don’t know how often I had to explain to thieves how blast finishers in a smoke field work after they dropped the classic “SR on cd” line in chat
Congratulations!!!!!

On a partially unrelated note, for those that completed the meta, is the lane specific achievement completing for you? I participated the entire time for Nuhoch and never got credit for it unless I have to do that three times which doesn’t make sense based on the description.
Actually, is it referring to the Chak Rush events?
Are you referring to the " x Lane Defender" achievements? I think they refer to the Chak Rush events, yes (correct me if I’m wrong pls). They might be bugged indeed, I have 0 progress in all of them.
But to be fair, I never gave much attention to the rush event because I’m usually too focused on the lane mechanics and surviving the main fight in melee range for the majority of the event. So it is absolutely possible that I’ve never actually participated in three consecutive defense events even though I’ve been playing the kitten out of this event for the past 10 days or so. I really can’t tell.
(edited by Skoigoth.9238)
Actually, I was able to complete it today for the first time! =)
I am playing on EU and I was there for the two runs WoodenPotatoes did on his stream today, both of which unfortunately failed. After the second attempt and after WP shut down his stream, a kind individual from within the gw2community.ts community took initiative and rallied the remainder of the map together for a third attempt which sadly failed again, in absolutely heartbreaking fashion, with only one of the Gerents left at like 0.1% HP! But, hope was not lost and I decided to stay for a fourth attempt (I really, REALLY wanted to beat this event today =P) and that time we FINALLY did it with a comfortable ~1:50 min. left on the timer if I remember correctly.
TL;DR: It is doable, don’t give up! It was extremely fun to learn how to do this event over the past two weeks and very satisfying to watch the people participating progressively becoming better and better at it.
That being said, big thanks to the folks over at gw2community.ts for commanding, organizing and providing such a great platform for the EU community, SCAR Lane for life and enjoy this screenshot.
…and for this very reason we have Shivers of Dread built-in.
Precisely to prevent fear to dispatch foes away from the reaper. Exactly my point!
Yup, exactly, so what’s the problem then? It’s a minor trait, so you’ll have it anyways if you go reaper.
Maybe I just misread your post, but to me it sounded like you don’t like the idea of getting more fear.
Now to figure out what is best Spite vs Curses line. Reaper and Soul Reaping is kinda locked in but not sure for the 3rd line, im guessing it comes down to circumstances which line is better. Any input on Spite vs Curses would be appreciated
I guess for “regular content” Spite is probably best in conjunction with Soul Reaping and Dhuumfire because of RS #1’s good direct damage (more of a hybrid approach if you will). In instances where mobs have insanely high toughness values, such as high lvl fractals, Curses + Spite will probably win out. I personally would never drop Spite, it is just to good to give up imo.
Self-sustain isn’t meta.
How do you know what will be meta in raids? Are you beta-testing them? Because if not…
I’ll just quote my response from “will anyone take thief in raids”-thread:
We simply don’t know yet, we only saw the first encounter of the first raid wing. To early to talk about meta comps imo.
@OP people on the Necro sub discussed this matter a while ago, you might want to check that out as well.
Reaper is meant to keep people near him, not making them fleeing away…

…and for this very reason we have Shivers of Dread built-in.
Just put in a Guild Hall upgrade for Target Golems, that would be really nice.
Why would a game developer deliberately try to fragment their player-base though? To detract attention from how badly written and executed the story part of their expansion was and that they messed up with the fractal changes??! Hmmm…. * puts on tin foil hat *

For all I care you can consider it to be whatever you want. All I did was providing a link to the twitter statement in question.
Great, now every wannabe lfg will say “10K+ AP GEARCHECK AND AR CHECK”
Is asking for level appropriate AR really too much in your eyes? Idk, seems like a reasonable request to me.
There was something similar-ish in DS going on afaik (didn’t do it myself, so I don’t know the specifics), but they fixed that one rather quickly because it apparently involved stalling progress on one of the side events.
The CoF farm is pretty harmless though I think. No loot, no stalling events for uninvolved players – just carpal tunnel syndrome =P
Fear is actually not too shabby against breakbars, so it is much less disruptive/useless in PvE now.
In the NCSY thread the suggestion to put fear on that shout is being discussed right now. I’m not entirely sure how I personally feel about that, but I guess it would be the kind of change you are looking for OP.
Since PC kinda makes your condis “siphon” health from enemies (a pseudo-siphon if you will), yes, it should most definitely heal you in Shroud.

There you go buddy.
Very nice write-up. I pretty much agree with everything except for one thing: Spiteful Talisman. It sees a lot of play in general PvE since it is a free 5% damage modifier most of the times and because the two other Adept traits, the mini-CoCo and the vuln on Chill, are rather situational.
I like the idea of making Unholy Fervor’s damage mod unconditional and independent from Axe, but at the same time it feels like giving up on Axe, which would be a bit sad =/
Removing or at least significantly shorting the ICD on Spiteful Spirit and adding the long wanted blast finisher (also on Axe #3 ofc) is still my favorite solution for this trait/skill as well.
Blue, the breakbar is blue =)
Yeah, these bugs are more challenging than the actual fight lol. Didn’t encounter the platform bug on my first play-through, but on my second one it almost made me rage quit the mission. I had to kill myself multiple times to get the platform to reset. Then I got a dc because of connectivity issues and had to start all over again.
I won’t be doing this mission again until they fix it, that’s for sure.
Probably not.
Berserker says hello :^) I heard pvp warriors are not happy at all atm.
I main Necro since launch, despite its shortcomings. I just enjoy the theme and the straightforwardness of the class. Also, Necro was my main in GW1 as well. Although, you can’t really compare the two, the games are too different, but it made sense to me to continue where I left off back then.
I doubt raids will be beatable by PuGs though, so min-maxed group compositions most likely will be a thing.
The first raid boss was the most mobile fight we’ve pretty much had in gw2 and it didn’t require the thief mobility.
I don’t think people are primarily talking about combat mobility, but more about mobility for potential running sections, puzzles etc. etc.. Stuff like the orb puzzle in Arah e.g., but harder.
Yeah, I’m pretty sure thief is still the class with the highest ooc mobility. Revenant has great in-combat mobility though due to high personal super speed up-time and phase traversal (targeted blink).
They can blink 1200 without a target?
nope
^ yup, this
Afaik, Lingering Curse e.g. modifies base duration (if it works properly currently, idk), but the % increases from runes, sigils etc. should all count towards the regular condition cap.
If you don’t mind asking, for which conditions are you trying to max out the duration Eneldiar? I’m tinkering on a PvE Viper’s/Sinister build myself atm and I’m also not really sure about runes/sigil choices yet.
@obal: Do you have any thoughts on using Plate of Roasted Cactus instead of Fried Golden Dumplings in PuGs or for solo play? The extra boon duration from the dumplings feels a bit wasted to me sometimes, the +100 ferocity from the cactus however would offer additional ~6.6% crit damage if I’m not mistaken.
We simply don’t know yet, we only saw the first encounter of the first raid wing. To early to talk about meta comps imo.
Condi builds being on par with DD builds =/= pseudo-forcing condi builds through insanely high toughness on mobs. That’s not build variety, that’s just bad design to create the illusion of “challenge”.
Yeah, I takes some time to get used to the new mobs, learn their animations etc. etc., but once you got that down survivability isn’t as big of an issue anymore (some HP and event mobs aside – I still swap in a ranged weapon for those sometimes).
In PvE i’d say I get about 500 dps from this trait due to the chill cap. Maybe a little less. Pretty much never see it tick on bosses.
So it still gets overwritten by non-damaging chills I assume? That sucks… but oh well, if you are not into SR (which I personally don’t use in group content) it is still our best option for DPS since Reaper’s Onslaught doesn’t do a lot without SR I guess.
/fixing forum bug
Hmm not what I wanted to see =/
Chill not stacking intensity = not worth it, imo.
classic
Either I fortunately missed all recent “zurkerrr op”-posts, or this is the first that catches on since HoT launched.

Can some1 test asura technobable?
This, I heard Wooden Potatoes saying it was massively effective, at least in the open world.
Good question actually, I’ll try to compare it against fear/stun/golem charge on my Necro later if I don’t forget.
Edit: Sooo, I did some testing and I did type out a rather lengthy post about it, but the forum hates me today T_T
TLDR pretty much is: Technobabble (3 sec. Daze) is roughly half as good as Flesh Golem Charge (Launch, 1 sec. Knockdown), but Charge is inconsistent. Sometimes it hits like a truck (99% breakbar on Bristleback Vets), sometimes only like a… family-friendly combi-van (66% also on Bristleback Vets) and sometimes it doesn’t hit at all because the Golem kitten s out =P
Technobabble, however, is super consistent, insta cast and only on a slightly longer cd than Charge (40 sec. vs. 45 sec.), so I’d say it is indeed a worthwhile pick for classes/builds light on CC or in fights where breaking the bar asap is crucial.

I thought you have to use the +7s for the regular infusion slots, or did they change that? The craftable agony infusions (such as +8s) only go into the agony-infusion slots from infused rings/back pieces and attuned rings, afaik.
I still use it besides GS. Staff doesn’t do very much for you in PvE imo and there is no other good main-hand weapon option X)
Which game mode are we talking about? For general PvE you can still go Berserker’s and mix in Zealot’s armor/weapons if you really want some healing power, or Viper’s armor/weapons and Sinister trinkets for condi.
Yes, Necro is definitely in a better spot now. Of course it still has some catch-up to do (most weapons still need work, same for a lot of trait-lines and utilies), but Reaper at least “feels” a lot better in group content than regular Necro did.
For power builds mainly Dagger/x and sometimes Staff for easy-mode open world event tagging.
I also tried using Axe/x for a while, but it just feels terrible. Tickling enemies to death is not fun
Please add an Endless Batwing Tonic recipe

winlook cool.
Fixed that for you and it kinda was always like that sooo…
Not that I’m against a recipe for the tonic, but this is absolutely not a pay-to-win issue.
Oh wow, I’m an idiot that can’t read properly X)
I just assumed it would be the usual 2 rings, 2 accessories etc.etc.
Hmm yeah, I just checked again ig. Maybe the tool-tips are just wrong/buggy?
Edit: Or is it really just the amulet that has selectable stats? That would be… weird.
(edited by Skoigoth.9238)
They are probably referring to the HoT story achievements, but I thought these give mixed Berserker’s/Valkyrie’s stats trinkets, no?
Nice work! =) Would be cool for comparison though if we’d have the numbers for a cookie-cutter Berserker’s/SR build.
Something like this maybe: http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vRAQNAodRnMbCN2gt0AubCc4glcBLeK2FHjUlh1wzCKA0AWBA-ThRBABXt/o8DP9B5dKAA4JAQp6PmpEkUARMsC-e
I think axe #3 is ok right now tbh, but #1 and #2 desperately need some more work.
Imo, the auto-attack should do more damage since it is single target and #2 either needs to do more damage or channel much faster.
Edit: Just compare Ghastly Claws with Rapid Fire and tell me that this is ok =P
(edited by Skoigoth.9238)
It frustrates me a bit that a lot of people seem to pigeonhole druid into being a healer and nothing else (ig that is, not so much here on the forums). It offers a great deal more offensive support than regular ranger and nothing prevents you from also using sword/x instead of just camping staff =P
Ive been trying it out more. Because its kitten useful when kiting the golems on aether fractal. But after just doing some calculations. Its still a totally terrible weapon.
And the animation certainly doesnt help.
^ This
I’ve been trying it again after ages as well. With Reaper taking away our best ranged option I sometimes felt “forced” to take it. I don’t feel comfortable yet being in melee 100% of the time in certain fractals and for some events/hero points on the new maps, but it still just feels so bad using this weapon in PvE =/
