Do you really feel like a CHRONOMANCER?

With the nerf’s to alacrity, quickness and slow, Chronomancer doesn’t feel much like a “time mage” at all.

Chronomancer is: “superspeed illusions”, “auto clone generation”, “auto phantasm generation” and instance shatter/skill reset.

Basically, Chronomancer has given Mesmer’s a superior replacement to Deceptive Invasion. We can shatter BIGGER and more OFTEN. Time manipulation really has nothing to do with Chronomancer.

If I was Robert Gee (or whomever is in charge of Mesmer design), here’s what I’d do.

Domination: Swap “Illusionary Reversion” with “Furious Interuptions”
Dueling: DE already there..
Chaos: Move Chronophantasma to Chaos, maybe take Mirror of Anguish to Chorno..but change it that it has some kind of time component.. Like if your CC’d, you gain quickness or alacrity instead.
Inspiration: No changes here.. Inspiration already has traits to make your illusions stronger and generate on blocks..
Illusions: Again no changes here.. Illusion has “Illusionists’ Celerity” to reduce all illusion summoning skills.
Chronomancer: “Time Catches Up” and CS both stay. Combined with 2 other trait lines it still makes shatters better. But now the traitline is more focused on quickness, slow and alacrity applications.

Keep in mind, that every build has 3 traitlines… So this really isn’t a “nerf” to chrono, but more about spreading what its current strengths are to the “core Mesmer” and making Chronomancer more about “time manipulation” and not illusion generation.

Moving Furious Interrupts and Mirror of Anguish to Chrono is not necessary. My idea is more about spreading Chrono’s “illusion generating” traits into the core Mesmer. So if anyone has some better ideas for Chrono traits that are more about “time”, please feel free to add your ideas.

Depending on the opposing teams comp, I’ll sometimes run with staff in place of GS. with destroyer amulet. Other times I might go with bezerker.

And doesn’t help that balances are on a 3-4 month schedule. And any real changes (shake things up) are once a year.

Well since there’s nothing but negative on this post, I figured I would add my two cents.

Started in Emerald and the first 5-6 games were win-lose-win-loae. Then I tweaked my build a bit and won 9 in a row. The only games that were blow ours were when there was an afk. The others have been way better than the past 2 seasons. Out of my 15 or so games 2 where right down to the wire. 501 -499. 500 – 496.

Don’t know why I’m having good matches when apparently everyone else is having horrible ones?

This season is way better than the first 3. I think that’s mostly cause the balance is better. Not good, but way, way, way better than before.

Nope, i am sorry but mine is a fact. The class balance was a lot better last season, you had no OP class, every class was relatively close to one another. This season DH are over the top.

And the algorithm is crap, and i don’t have to explain it to you but just ask Anet why they tried to scrap it though. Having 5 5 1 5 5 vs 4 4 4 4 4 shouldn’t be a thing.

Game probably expects me to carry because I was legendary last season and so my MMR is probably higher than average saphire player MMR.

You do realize all those other sapphire players your “carrying” were also Diamond/Leagonary last season.

Not to mention the first 3/4 of the seasons diamond and above players could group with ambers reducing the groups mmr and easily get wins to further climb the ladder.

So season 1 had terrible balance and easy match manipulation. Of course now thru all the seasons everyones. MMR is pretty messed by now. So who knows how good or bad the changes will be.

Sorry but its a total l2p issue. This post is nothing but a whine, its not productive in producing discussion or any reasoning to it, the only reason op gave is he doesn’t like it.

Not being able to face tank burst specs is healthy for a game.

Not being able to provide any reasoning besides personal taste when calling for nerfs (ie: I feel it’s to strong because X) to create a discussion whether it is a shared opinion or perhaps to have some light shed on why it is this way and how to counter to it, is unhealthy for a forum

Season 4 will be horrible with the current max burst meta. Season 1 > Season 2 > Season 3 > Season 4

Really. Season 1 was the best. The season where you LITERALLY had opposing players standing on mid point chatting with each other. Because they knew neither one could scratch the other. So they just sat there and chatted to keep the point uncontested.

Thats your PvP model. That’s what you want to go back to.

I was surprised to see the cd reduction in the patch notes. I thought ANet had forgotten about AT. If they made some big fixes with the cooldown then I’d be more excited.

If any one wants to give AT a go, here’s some advice. Pretend it’s pistol’ s Magic Bullet. Keep your target in front of you. If you turn too much or the target moves too far left or right, AT fails. You almost need to stand completely still during the cast.

And of course dodges also negate it. So yeah. The cd reduction is nice but it still needs more love.

EDIT: Nevermind.. it sucks… played a couple matches with it.. failed 4 out of 5 times… don’t bother.

I don’t think it’s a question of “fast vs slow” gameplay. PvP needs to be more “interactive”. More engaging.

When you have classes/builds that can simple ignore what the other person is doing (just doing their rotations) and being successful. Then that is when you lose your player base.

PvP needs to have that back n forth. Otherwise its just glorified PvE. The speed of that engagement can vary. But it needs to exist. And for the past year or so, there has been less and less engagment in this game.

So after I saw your post I dugout my old EchoRupt build with the destroyer amulet.

It went pretty well! Need to get practice more with it but it showed some promise. The mantra buffs helped. I didn’t feel like I had to “wait” to recharge the mantras. It’d be nice if chaos storm had more meat to it, but the most important part was that I had fun playing it. It was fun and I didn’t feel like a liability. Of course we’re between seasons. So it could have been the teams I pulled. Never the less, it’ll be my goto build for awhile. Thanks for idea.

I’m surprised by the patch. I like their approach they took this time. Giving small buffs to a good portion of our unused skills. Nothing to huge just nice little tweaks.

Yes it’d be nice if there was more to the AT change, like “fixed a bug that caused AT to fail”. And some more of our unused traits/weapons getting touched, but this is a good start.

The change I’m most excited for its this:

I agree with most other Mesmer players that other classes need to be brought down, to bring back some build diversity in all the classes. HoT’s powercreep is real.

I have small balance idea that would be help bring the current Condi-Chrono meta build down a notch. And forcing some more “options” in the Chrono line.

Unfortunately, it will also be a slight nerf to any Power Chronos, but Power Shatter needs more love than just this, so it wouldn’t be as big a hit.

Illusionary Reversion is returned to its original state of shattering 1 clone generates 1 clone. BUT its moved up to the GM slot alongside ChronoPhantasma.

So now the Mesmer is either feeding his shatters for burst or he’s maintaining his sustain/dps by keeping phantasms up.

Class diversity is the result of having OPTIONS. As it is now, there are no options in the Chronomancer line.

And yes, I’m totally off my rocker.

If a class can maintain stability/stealth throughout a stomp and there’s nothing any one can do to stop it. What difference does make how long it takes? Still no counter play.

Your point being that Impact Strike, any amount of stability, or stealth are guaranteed stomps?

Down somebody in a medium sized fight and attempt finishing with stealth, impact strike, or less than 2-3+ stability stacks and see what happens the majority of the time. Far from guaranteed that you’ll succeed in that with the rate of crowd control flying around.

They’re just as guaranteed as quickness stomps were.

In season 1, it was more about the OP build that was Chronobunker. Quickness /stomp ust added to that. Now the build has been adjusted. But quickness Nerf remains.

Time Warp is an 180 second cooldown and is an Elite skill! Up until chronobunker there was no issue with using it for stomps/rezing. And now there are other professions that have just as guaranteed a stomp as Time Warp was before Chronobunker. So if you Nerf one……..

The same could be said for all those that i listed.

Function gyro is providing a safe stomp ability. Just like quickness/slow was doing.

You could also argue the same for stealth/stabilty/invulneribilty etc and etc.

-Quickness/slow no longer affects rez/stomping.
-Rez/stomping now applies reveal(3s)
-Stability/invulnerability is removed during rez/stomping.
-Poison/Healing power no longer speeds/slows rez/stomping.
-AI controlled NPC’s (pets, minions, turrets, illusions, gyro’s, etc.) will no longer attack/assist in rez/stomping (Rez/stomping must be done by a player)

Why is one of those an actual thing, but the others are just the ramblings of a forum nobody?

Again its the only way Scrappers can safe stomp. If you want to make it interruptible be prepared to also accept every other classes “safe stomp” be interruptible.

Shall we make thieves elite stomp also have a 1.5 sec cast time also so they can “tune” their impact? Should guardians F3 shield also have a cast time so they can be interupted before shield appears?

Hate to break this to you but there is a pre cast time on every ability in the impact strike chain…. It is also not a safe stomp. now in theory you can take Haste to speed this up, but to do that you would need to drop Thrill of the crime. a choice most thief’s won’t go for. The total time is 1/2 seconds + 3/4 seconds + 1 1/2 seconds. by all means reduce this to 1.5 instead of the 2 3/4 seconds it is now

Thief’s safe stomp was already nerfed, that would of been IR + stomp + steal. Which btw also recieved a cast time.

(This was the worst example you could of used)

I dont play a thief in pvp (i have one i use in open world) but i read good thieves can time their impact strike, starting it just before the enemy is downed and then final strike finishes the enemy immediately. Again i may be wrong here.

Maybe it was a bad example but my point was that people are complaining about it but a lot of other classes have excellent safe stomping abilities.

But its a “learn to play” issue when other classes can.

ANet has shown they can single out certain abilites during rez/stomp. So then all classes should be looked at and adjusted accordingly.

Why is ok for DH to have instant cast traps with cooldowns starting when the laid and not when triggered.
Why are thieves allowed to have so much stealth and evades.
Why do Eles get so much sustain.
Why do kittens get so much chill.

Traits changed so drastically and suddenly and then condi stacking was thrown on top of it. Then they went and tossed a whole new trait line full of extremely over powered things and gave every class a new wepaon…

Since then AN has done very little balancing and actually decreased build diversity. To top it off they remove half the amultes because they don’t like stats when the issue was always the traits and skills and never the stats (except cele which was silly op)…

I gave up on PvP mid season 2 and I don’t see myself ever being competitve again.

Just to be clear I didn’t stop because I can’t win (because I can), I don’t play because I grow tired of playing 100’s of games a month against the exact same professions, running the exact same builds, every single game, with the only difference between games is player nameplates…

So with the change to deathly chill…

You attack the necro>your feared., chilled and bleeding…

You can use up a cleanse and hope the bleeding gets removed
Or
use up your stun breaker to get control back. But still bleeding.
Or
Don’t waste a cool down. Eat the bleeding and lose a couple k of health., and have no control of your character.

And the necro did NOTHING.

but you know its a ‘L2P issue’.

Mesmers unused utility skills and focus

For focus, why not add the projectile blocking that shield(Tides of Time) has?

Shield can have a moving wall that stuns and grants alacrity.

Focus can have a stationary wall that can push/pull and grant swiftness.

Increase the curtain height a little.

This would give it a little more use in both PvE and PvP.

What bugs me the most is the “double” nerfing that seems to be happening.

Nerf Moa… and remove Mercenary amulets

Nerf Alacrity.. then make quickness/slow no longer affect rez/stomping.

Meanwhile, other Elite’s are barely touched.

The POWERCREEP in this game has got be put in check! And it needs to happen fast and it needs to happen on EVERY PROFESSION. Not just one at a time.

No mmo is completely balanced so as far as mmos go I think gw2 has decent balance to say the least. My problem with the game is that most of the current meta builds feel dumbed down and not very competitive, I wish most classes required some clutch decision making instead of I spam this rotation and I win as long as it lands.

I agree. But for some profession/builds its seems like its more “I spam this rotation and I don’t die.”

No mention of a reduced cooldown for Time Warp??

The change to quickness/slow no longer affecting rez/stomps was a huge nerf to Time Warp in sPvP. Sure, it still might have a place in raids and WvW, but it surely deserves a 120sec cd now?

Also, I think Imagined Burden could be improved by adding “slow” to the trait. But I like the Mind stab idea. (It does need more).

Not even remotely.
It shows quite clearly that they have no intentions of scaling back the power creep, and are fine with the current gimmicky game play.
This is no longer the game I bought in 2012 and enjoyed through 2014, and it certainly isn’t a game I want to play in any competitive capacity.

I’ve love how you get feared, chilled, bled, burned, (whatever) to lose a bunch of health( or use up all your condi-clears/stun breakers) for the “audacity” of actually hitting your opponent.

This patch is basically “let’s buff all un-used stuff” in the name of diversity. Power Creep Galore!!

What annoys me the most about this thread is that I only see people talking about it being used by druids. I wouldn’t want to see this skill nerfed or changed again just because it’s used in some builds on an elite-spec. I as someone who plays a normal ranger, would get hit by it pretty hard.

It has a 45 seconds cool down(35 if traited) and is only really useful in really specific situations. It is not like you also get stability on you cast it and it’s pretty much a waste to use “Rampage as One!” or Signet of the Wild just for the stability. and most of the times you have “Rampage as One!” already used up if you have it slotted.

Time Warp is an Elite skill with a 180 second cool down. And is also a core Mesmer skill. That didn’t stop ANet from nerfing quickness from Rez/stomping. Time Warp is useless in SPvP now. Is it any surprise that every Mesmer is running Moa?

- Time Warp quickness duration reduced to .5 sec per pulse, CD increased to 360
- Tides of Time no longer stuns, now triggers the /laugh emote. CD reduced to 30 seconds
- Arcane Thievery CD increased to 60 seconds (just cuz), no additional corrections
- New and Improved Scepter! – projectile speed increased by 2%, damage reduced by 10%
- Illusion Reversion now requires 5 illusions to generate a clone
- Chornophantasma, resummoned phantasms are dazed for 5 seconds.

The forgotten role of boon stripping

Up until last week, my build was traited in Dom/Duel/Chrono. I would take Harmonious Mantra with MoD and Mantra of Resolve (for condition cleaning). So I’ve always run with 2 mantra’s, and I’ve gotten used to it.

Like I said in S1, I did pretty well with that build. But this season with the changes to the matchmaking and the hard nerfs that chrono had taken, I’ve been struggling.

That forced me to take a look at my build and try to change some things. My first change came after seeing “My Name is PI’s” latest youtube video. (Can’t find it right now to link it.) The build he was running, provided the base that I came up with.

From his vid’s I started to see how Chronophantasma & Mental Defense served mulitple purposes. With 2 blocks on shield, two tough phantasms could easily be generated and quickly replaced. So this provide sustain in this crazy meta AND illusions for stronger shatters.

And it goes without saying the Inspiration helps with the condi removal, to say the least. Which further helps with the sustain in this meta.

So that’s Insp/Chrono, after that it was a question of either Dom or Chaos for the “lockdown” portion. And really as a trait line, Chaos gels better with the build. Master of Manipulations helps out the blinks and the Arcane Thievery, and of course it wouldn’t be a “lockdown” if not for Chaotic Interruption.

Because of the 2 charge mantra’s, its very difficult to take down some of the current bunker/bruiser builds that are currently out there (1v1). Thats more about some of the current OP bunkers that are in the game then mantras.

But in team fights, a quick strip of “stability” with AT followed by a daze/stun/knockdown.. and “multiple” 3 illusion shatter….leads to some good results.

I won’t lie, I really miss HM and 3 mantra charges. And AT really could use a lower cooldown. Its still very buggy. and 45 seconds is WAY too long for what it does.

Again, I’m not exactly “lighting up” PvP right now, but this is the kind of Mesmer I want to play. And its nice to see some results from it.
