What Procs Arcane Thievery

Its a very frustrating skill. I try to employ it like “Magic Bullet”. (Narrow cone shaped target path.)

Keep facing the enemy until the skill is complete. Too much of a left/right angle, and it misses.

In pvp, I don’t use it much because of its behavior..usually need something viable in many situations.

Mirage Mirrors improvements

Mirage doesn’t really help with clone generation. Chrono has 2 traits to retain illusion and thus is an improvement over base Mesmer.

Mirrors should generate clones when the Mesmer shatters the mirror.

It makes those mirrors more attractive and helps the Mirage with clone generation. It strengths the ambush and our shatters at the same time. Giving the Mesmer more options.

It also is very aesthetic with the Mirage theme.. Its a Mesmer running into a mirror…. and the Mesmer splits in two!!! That’s got Mesmer/Mirage all over it!!

Mirage should be spitting out clones like crazy!!!!! The more clones the more the “is that real..” type of feel that the Mirage is supposed to have.

Have the mirrors generate a clone when you shatter it! Its a mirror breaking by the Mesmer! Have the clone appear next to the Mesmer. Kind of like how mirror images works.

Mirage Demo Weekend Feedback

Just finished giving the Mirage a spin in sPVP and most of what has posted here I’m in agreement.

The one thing I’d like to emphasize is the quick cooldowns of the ambush skills & how their activated. Just make F5 trigger ambush skills…. have it work the same: F5 isn’t active until you receive Mirage Cloak. It can still have a ICD on it, but just make it a easier to use.

Well, updating the chipset driver and the Intel driver didn’t do anything.

I had already tried the TDRDelay in the registry,.,. to no avail..

I’ve even lowered the settings on the game. same error..

Just tried running GW2 on the laptop’s display with the external monitor unplugged.. message pops up. The message comes up within minutes of GW2 launching.

Last night, I play Witcher 3 for 2-3 hours…. no issues what so ever.

UPDATE: We’ll I think I might have fixed it. I downloaded a different driver cleaner.. went to “safe mode” and ran the driver cleaner there, removing all the NVidia drivers, etc.. When Windows came back up, I let it install the drivers. Windows installed just the 368.71 drivers from NVidia. It did NOT install the NVidia experience, the phyx driver, so on and so on.

Last time I did this, I installed the latest NVidia drivers from their website. Anyway, I’ve been playing GW2 for over and hour and no “application has been blocked from accessing the graphics processor” messages. (Just hope nothing else broke in the process.)

I’ll post in the NVidia forums and see if someone might have an idea?

I have not contact tech support directly.

Its a 3 year old Alienware 17 laptop with the Nvidia 780m GPU. Its not overclocked or anything like that. I can run Witcher 3, Dishonored 2, (recently ran the Titanfall 2 free weekend), The_Division, etc. never get the message. Only GW2.

Right now, I’m downloading new chipset driver and the intel video card drive so we’ll see if that helps.

About a month ago, I finally broke down and purchased an external 24" monitor for it and am using the DisplayPort to drive it. I wonder if that has something to do with the sudden appearance of the error. Before that I just used the built in LCD screen???

This message has suddenly appearred ONLY when playing GW2.. IOt started aboit 2-3 weeks ago. And its has only does this with GW2?

Windows basically the closes the graphics down pops up that message, but keeps the game running.

I’ve done some google searches and tried wiping my video card driver with a drive cleaner.. re-installed the video driver and it still happening??

I’ve checked the compatibility mode for the exe.. I don’t what to do??

Haven’t been playing too much of Season6, but this season I decided to rebuild the old Mantra Lockdown build. So I bye Dueling and Harmonious Mantra’s.

At first, I tried making the build access as much quickness/slow as possible, with Time Warp, Temporal Enchanter, Furious Interruptions, Sieze the Moment, Sigils of Agility.. etc. It had its moments, but it still struggled. HoT powercreep is real.

Lockdown playstyle is a struggle with the powercreep that HoT brought to the table. Can’t do much about all the damage immunity, but I needed to do something about all that Stability boon spam. Can’t lock anything down that way.

Arcane Thievery cooldown was lowered, gave it try for the 1000th time and its still so buggy. (works ~1 out 5 times) It just seems to behave like “Magic Bullet”.. has a very narrow cone and if you are turning during cast, or the target moves left/right .. the AT projectile misses. (I know AT is not a projectile, but it sure seems to exhibit a slow moving projectile.)

So AT went to the curb. So then I see the recent change to our phantasm spells (they now have an initial cast). “Phantasmal Disenchanter”> 20 second CD and removes 2 boons upon cast!!!! And from my experience, stability is one of the first to go!

Other nice thing about it, its an Illusion spell. As long as I have a target, I can be running this way and that (and backwards) and it does its job. (2 boons removed.)

Borrow some traits from Condi-Chrono (Chromophantasma, Mental Defense, Illusionary Reversion, Restorative Illusions and not only does Phantasmal Disenchanter remove boons/condi’s… it’s ammunition(twice) for shatters. AT, Mantra of Resolve and Null Field can’t do that.

Not that I’m storming up the S6 ladder, but I’ve been kind of having fun again. The enemy appears in shock when Illusionary Wave sends them flying or a well timed stun from Confounding Suggestions/Tides of Time hits them.

Last night, I took on a DH and Necro (both standing on point) at the same time with a Disenchanter>Gravity Well>"quickened" Blurred Frenzy>Mind Wrack>Distortion/PowerBlock sequence. I dodged away so fast….thinking traps/wells were coming and was shocked they were both down.

Class stacking is not a problem. Balance is the problem.

If you didn’t have a handful of easy to play builds which perform exceptionally well at most skill levels (DH being the poster child), you wouldn’t see professions being stacked to the degree that they currently are.

OP’s comparison to OW is full of crap. In OW, you are loaded into the game and select your heroes from there. Each hero has a role and a relatively simple kit. In GW2, you load into the game with your character and build and there are no set roles. Characters have large kits of weapons, abilities, traits, and stats.

^This. Balance has ALWAYS been the problem.

Since the leagues started after HOT release, there’s been several posts about profession based MMR (skill rating). ANet even made posts that they do keep track of profession based MMR, it’s not accurate because players can change classes during matches.

Then about a month or so, Evan Lesh ran a poll stating that profession s would be locked in matches. But the poll was worded on “when” the profession lock would occur. If you voted ‘NO’ then the lock would occur at the 10 second countdown or ‘YES’. To have the lock occur when entering the queue.

It was very close and NO won. So players can still switch. And profession based MMR might be a little more accurate, but still useless.

And the poll was worded to imply that the profession lock was for preventing achievement hacking. So there’s was quite a debate during the poll.

EDIT: Sorry, I was posting on my phone.. so not very good summary.

Players who voted NO to the poll, reasoned that the MM is terrible and balance is terrible and the players need to be able to switch in order to counter the opposite team and prevent class stacking. (Season 6 is looking great so far. )

Players who voted YES to the poll, surmised that with professions locked at queue, ANet could modify the algorithim to improve class stacking. more accurate classed base MMR, and even have a whole slew of data to aid in the balancing. (They voted for a change ANY change would be better than nothing.)

But because the poll only mentioned the achievement hacking (no promises were made by ANet at ALL) , there was a whole lot of drama in the thread from both sides. It was something like NO – 54% to YES – 46%.

Amulet, Rune, and Sigil Requests

Why are there Runes that give a bonus for executing Shouts, Wells, Traps, etc… but none for Glamours or Mantra’s or Symbols or Turrets or Spirits or etc???

Either provide Runes for all skill types, so that all professions have options. Or remove all Skill specific Runes

Or convert them to more generic types of triggers…. like “using a heal skill or an elite or on dodge or on block or..”

Take the current meta condo chrono.

Inspiration traits > gives sustain and Condi removal
Illusion traits > give lots of Condi application/damage
Chrono traits> give illusion regen/shatter reset spam

Now, choose only 2 of the traits lines. In doing so, your build will have a weakness. Thus build diversity will result.

Not saying this should be done. I’m saying something extreme needs to be done to the SPvP side. Removing roofs and having polls on each season is not cutting it.

PvP and PvE CAN have separate balance, but after this last balance patch. The PvP needs to do something radical to separate them. We don’t need more, we need less.

Something extreme needs to be done…. Like only allowing 2 trait lines instead of 3. (PvP only)

I actually think iWarden should be a defensive cast in nature due to the defensive nature of the focus. Possibly causing weakness or blindness, or even giving us prot/regen/aegis when it is cast. Look at the focus as a whole. It provides swiftness to us, cripples enemies, pulls enemies, and can be traited to reflect projectiles to keep us safe. Overall its heavily defensive in nature, so I don’t think an offensive cast on iWarden fits thematically.

So apparently cripple can’t be used defensively?

Phantasmal Duelist: In addition to its previous effect, this skill now fires a slow-moving homing bullet that cripples its target if it hits.
Phantasmal Mage: In addition to its previous effect, this skill now burns nearby foes when activated.
Phantasmal Warlock: In addition to its previous effect, this skill now also fires Winds of Chaos projectiles at up to 3 unique targets within a radius of 600 of the caster.

Since the iWarden’s attack is stationary, I kind of think cripple (thinking a asmall AOE cripple around the target) would be better on Warden (focus). OH Pistol already has a stun (Magic Bullet) to help iDuelist hit its target.

And the cripple would also help the focus’s “Into the Void” to keep the target in the pull/push area. (either that or the iWarden cast causes immobilize, but I think that would be too much.) (but then I think about ancient seeds or Hunters Mark or ….)

iDuelist cast could be a bullet to cause some initial bleeding, vulnerability or weakness.

Profession Locking Poll - February 16th 2017

It’s truly frightening to me that people are voting for either option, without the pretext of a balance patch in such magnitude, the likes gw2 has never seen, that it fixes the disparity between the classes to even a reasonable level. It’s also note worthy to me that, people are voting for an option with an attached personal “hope” for balance changes to accompany, or ANY second “well if they did this too” idea. NO WHERE has it been said that this would be the case. Even forgoing all of that, people expect MM to be any “better” than the current iteration; and let’s just be kittening real for a second, THE POPULATION for S6 will be LOWER than S5, DUE TO ascended vending change, S5 leaderboard fiasco, and a multitude of other things that have driven people from the game. How in the world will matchmaking be better with equal to or, most likely, LESS people than there were in S5? WHY does no one question anet about this? To top it off, anet words the poll in a way that it is EASILY misinterpreted, much like the GOP in US politics, just swinging a new “shiny feature” in front of the masses to distract from the REAL issues.

This change for yes is a huge oportunity to create a base to work on. Shure custom templates, class leaderboards, and adapting matchmaker is part of it and i am confident devs think of this. Otherwise it would not make sense. A No is realy hindering progress and better matchmaking (from system side, not if platin+ players adapt team comp … which is an absolute minority).

I feel like this ideal needs to be addressed, “create a base to work on,” maybe this is just me being picky but, after 5 years, I’d expect the BASE to have already been worked out. But I’m a realistic person, after 5 years, I’m thoroughly convinced that the Balance Team and the PvP Team, truly have no direction in mind, this is evident due to the pattern of “balance changes” and general PvP changes released over said 5 years.

How people are correlating class mmr/mm to “better” is completely beyond me, do any of you even play this game? Do ANY of you even understand how imbalanced the game mode is? You are going to subject yourselves to some SERIOUS punishment if you naively believe that this system will work in any shape or form. Ignorance is bliss.

Right, after 5 years of having the same crappy balance and same crappy matchmaking, voting NO will DO NOTHING to improve the situation. ITS MORE OF THE SAME!

Voting YES is CHANGE.. whether its good or bad?? Having classed based MMR at least should improve the matchmaking. Whether it helps with profession balance or not is up for ANet to decide. Yes, the change will suck at first. But if ANet actually does ACT on the data they get from profession based MMR, then down the road it will only get better.

If you vote NO, you shouldn’t complain about the class stacking, bad balance and crappy matchmaking. Your telling ANet that the “status quo” is good enough.

Great idea, already looking forward to the triple thief, double nec with no ele and double ranger double engi comps I usually get. Even without class stacking setups will be unbalanced (ele vs no ele + low mobility etc). Anet wasn’t able to introduce proper matchmaking for 4 years, how is that supposed to suddenly work now?

Voting No = status quo (of the past 4 years)

Voting Yes = is at least a change

I don’t know for sure if “locking professions” will allow ANet to improve matchmaking or make better balance patches. In theory, this should give ANet all kinds of data to improve PvP balance. Whether or not they ACTUALLY ACT on the data?

But I do know with HOT and every balance patch since, ANet has driven me and others farther and farther away from this game. Status quo will not bring people back.

Funny how thief is allowed to use an elite to stomp (as well as other professions use stab, stealth, cc’s etc.) But Mesmers aren’t. (Timewarp)

Agree with Clownmug, I think a better solution would be to move Illusionary Reversion up to GM level next to Chronophantasma. Beef it a little more like make create 1for1 clones up to max of 2. So now the Chrono chooses clones to feed shatters or phantasms. Having both is a little too much.

Of course, probably need to improve Time Marches On to make it worth it to choose over the other 2

A lot of pvp woes would be greatly reduced if there were more consistent balancing.

There is no such thing balance in an MMO. You can get close. But there will always be that one class that is better.

That’s why you need to have constant balancing/tweaking to keep the game/meta changing. Otherwise the game becomes stagnant.

10 losses in a row

If I get three loses in a row, I will go do something else. Maybe do some living story or just play a different game altogether. Maybe I’ll try again in a half an hour or so. Depends. It helps clear my head and mostly resets my attitude.

It also seems to help with the MM when I come back. The player pool is different and that seems to aid in the MM.

Agree, no clone on death traits.

The other day, I read a post in the PvP section. The poster was observing that when playing against the druid, occasionally he loses the druid as a target. And wonder if it was a bug or something.

Of course, the what he was observing was the “taunt” from the pet. (certain pets anyway.)

Then it occurred to me….. why don’t clones cast “taunt”. They are supposed to deceive our enemy’s? “Can’t see the forest from the tree’s.. kinda thing.” I know it will never happen, but I just thought it would be kind of a cool and very annoying gameplay element. Having 3 clones out, all casting taunt every 10-15 seconds.

For season 6, add a 5 man team queue. Make the rewards better than solo/duo queue to help compensate for the longer wait. And to make it more attractive for players to form teams.

Keep the solo/duo queue with the following change. When a team wins, the team re-enter the solo/duo queue as a team. After 3 consecutive wins, they get put into the team queue.

Now you provide solo players the ability to meet and form teams and help feed the team queue.

How about No to your weird idea

Keep two different queue separate. Why should solo players be forced to put in team queue just to facilitate team queue players?

The solo/dou players can leave the que anytime they wish And re-que back into the solo/duo queue. But remember, team que would have better rewards so it might be worth it to try the team queue.

Upcoming Changes to Skills

Whether or not I agree with these changes, I hope and pray that this is a sign that balancing is a higher priority for ANet.

Tweaking the cooldowns and mutlitpliers for PvP should happen every 3-5 weeks and then the big trait/weapon/skill balance changes roll out every couple of months. Since there is no PTR, why not use sPvP as a testing ground!

Having active continuous “tweaking” in the PvP is just a GOOD idea!
1) It prevents having one or two dominate builds throughout a whole season. (bunker Chrono, cele ele, etc..)
2) It helps keep the gameplay dynamic and interesting for the playerbase. Players will be constantly tweaking their builds. It keeps them interested and playing. Stagnancy and powercreep is what is killing PvP!
3) In conveys to the playerbase, that ANet is invested in the gamemode!!!!!!!!!!

I hope this first step of PvP balance is a sign of MANY changes/tweaks in the coming months.

I’m cautious of the future, my GW2 gaming has dropped dramatically since HOT. I love the PvP here, but the balance/powercreep has been driving players(me) away. I really hope ANet can turn things around.

Have you tried “Evasive Mirror” in place of “Blinding Dissapation”? With “Blurred Inscriptions”, that would give you a bunch of reflects.

Increased the delay before the clone is summoned by about 0.25 seconds to allow players to start casting this skill while moving within range and not have it fail.

The speed of attack of Illusion has been increased by about 0.35 seconds to allow for better tracking against moving targets.

I was wrong on the LOS requirement. Just assumed since the skill generates a clone, LOS was required.

The skill has a 1/2 second cast. A 1/4 second delay to the clone summoning was added to allow the player to start casting BEFORE getting into range.

This is where I usually mess up. You can start casting out of range, but if your not within range 1/4 second later then no clone. So if the target moves, or you move laterally, etc.. skill fails.

There’s also the one second delay between Leap>Swap. With all the AOE, cleave, powercreep, the clone doesn’t last long enough for that 1 second in order to swap to it.

I end up using only for the clone generation>shatter or as a semi escape mechanism. Enemy chasing your down…. Leap > Swap… run in opposite direction.

That one second delay could go down to 1/2 second. Funny how other professions gap closers are immediate(no delay in the middle) and ignore line of site. (Thief, Rev, Guardian) Mesmer’s need LOS to generate the clone, wait a second and (if the clone survives) then leap.

Prior to the Elite specs, Mesmer was pretty much reliant on Deceptive Evasions in the Dueling line to be viable.

Thanks to the Chronomancer Elite and HOT, thats all changed. Deceptive Evasions is no longer a requirement.

Now all Mesmer needs is Illusionary Reversion, Chronophantasma, Restorative Illusions, Mental Defense and Maim The DisIllusioned to be viable.

As I’ve said in the past… modify Harmonious Mantra’s to add 1 sec of quickness whenever you charge a mantra. Have it apply the quickness at the end of the charge.

This makes having 2 or more Mantra’s less cumbersome and dare I say more “Harmonious!!”

I would think its pretty obvious.

Chrono thru IR & chronophansma is constantly spawning illusions. CS and Signet of illusions resets shatters.

Restorative illusions removed condi’s and heals every shatter.

Mental Defense spawns phantasmal defender on block. Shield has 2 blocks.

Then throw in MtD. That adds conditions to every shatter. And you have the perfect Condi bomber.

Sustain from Inspiration. Nonstop shatters and illusions from Chrono. And Condi application from illusions.

Almost every trait in that build synergies with each other.

MMR provides relative indication of a players skill.

If you want you playerbase to have challenging matches, then MMR is used for matchmaking.

PIPs indicate a players progression thru a league/ladder/season.

If tyou want to run a “league/season”, then you need something to show progression through the league/season.

Its just a question on “how do you want run your league/ladder”. And how do you incorporate these “PIP’s” for that particular league.

Disagree. Harmonious Mantra keeps the extra charge, but adds 1 second of quickness after you charge a Mantra. Making more than one Mantra on your skills bar more bearable.

And boost the damage to 4% ????

In addition to what Pyro mentioned….

Let’s take a look at how Alacrity and Quickness would improve Mantra of Pain…

MoP being a mantra has a 2 3/4 sec charge time… quickness would change that to ~1.5 seconds..

MoP has a 1 sec cooldown… alacrity will reduce that cooldown to around ~.5 second…

With a standard MoP. you could cast power spike twice every: 2 3/4 + 1 + 1 ~4 3/4 seconds…

With quickness and alacrity: 1 1/2 + .5 + .5 ~ 2 1/2 seconds

So you would gain a whole ~2 seconds.. Keep in mind that 2 second gain won’t be every 2 1/2 seconds.. because your wasting your shatter cooldowns to gain that quickness and alacrity. So at some point, you’ll end back to the 4 3/4seconds rotation when you run out of shatters.

AND not to mention that you’d be giving up ChronoPhantasma in the process.

So you think the increase of DPS from 2 whole seconds from MoP would be worth it?

Wasn’t there a GW1 Mesmer build that every Mesmer was required to have or you would never get on any dungeon runs.

Something based on Visions of Regret… An “unkillable” necro/monk would run into an area and just gather all the mobs around him and let them hammer on him. While a Mesmer just spammed VoR over and over until the mobs killed themselves.

What I’m saying is that GW1 had its share of “you must do this” builds as well.
