For when I want to place a clone “RIGHT ON TOP” of my enemy and shatter. Thus GUARANTEEING said shatter.

I’m not saying I’ll always have 3 phantasm out when that circumstance arrives, but I don’t want to be in that situation and NOT have the clone generated.

I think Seyiwaji’s point is about the ability to strategically generate/place clones (into a shatter) that DE/Decoy/Mirror Images provides.

If new clones stopped overwriting phantasms, then there goes that ability.

As I mentioned in my early post, it should be looked at. Adding a new trait that could be selected that would prevent the clone replacement (when 3 illusions are already out) in exchange for some type of buff/effect. For example, Phase Retreat would generate “might” instead of a clone if there are already 3 illusions.

Again make a trait so that “phantasm builds” would benefit from it. Without hurting current mechanics.

*Confounding is fine. If you needa nerf something, nerf Mantra of Distraction. Confounding is only “OP” when combined with it, but in every other instance its fine… That doesn’t qualify a nerf.

I’m sorry Chaos, but I have to disagree with this. MoD has barely changed since release. The only real buff it has received as when it became AOE effect. And even then, it really didn’t see much play time. And never was an issue.

ONLY when CS became a 100% daze to stun, are players complaining about MoD. So to me, if anything should be nerfed it should be CS.

Clones Overwriting Phantasms

Your always guaranteed at least 2 phantasms. As clones will ONLY overwrite phantasms, when there are 3 phantasms.

Then the oldest phantasm is replaced by a clone. And any new clone generation, will overwrite the solo clone.

Since all the “on death” traits/gameplay have been removed. This clone overwriting mechanism probably should be relooked at.

Maybe there be more bonus’s add when a Mesmer has 3 illusions out. (like how Ether Feast works)

For example, change Scepter’s AA 3rd attack to speed up/more damage if there is already 3 illusions out. Instead of just generating another clone.

Part of the concept of clone generation was to make the enemy choose between destroying the illusions or attacking the Mesmer. Now that the “on death” stuff is gone. The enemy simply needs to avoid/dodge the extremely telegraphed shatters or just let all the AOE/cleaves take out the illusions.

It’d be nice to put some consequences back into clone generation.

What I don’t like about CS is that “Harmonious Mantra’s” and “Imagined Burden” were both nerfed because of it.

Not sure about the Mirror of Anguish. If its off its ICD, then it should still “mirror” the Wave or Daze back.

Note: Remember, MoA does NOT make the Mesmer immune to the control effect. It just “mirrors:” the effect back. So if the Mesmer gets knockdown, so does the enemy that caused the knockdown.

As far as Power Block and the Mantra charges. The mantra charges are all instant cast. So they are in a sense “uninterruptable”. You can interrupt the Mantra itself (causing the 15 sec CD.) but you can not “interrupt” “Power Lock” for example. Hope I’m clear on that.

I don’t think it’s necessarily Chronophantasma or the IR trait.

I see “Alacrity” to GW2 Mesmer as what “Fast Casting” was in GW1.

Since there is no “mana/energy” to manage, being able to reduce cooldowns on every skill in this game is HUGE!

I’ve been fighting this issue for the past couple of weeks. (Win 10 Upgrade) GW2 is unplayable for me. Whats funny, is that ANet will do a little “quick fix” and sometimes that fixes it for me. Then the next “update” or reboot, will make the game unplayable again.

Are both of you running nvidia cards?

It looks like that seems to be the common problem. Nvidia released new drivers today, haven’t tried them yet.

I had the same problem when I went to Windows 10 as well. I’ve tried everything I could think of and nothing worked.

When todays patch came out I logged in earlier today and no change. Just now I saw your post, and checked again. And BAM, problem gone. My FPS is back to what it was before the Windows Upgrade!!! So it was the “hot fixes” that did it for me!!

Just verified that GW2.exe is running on the Nvidia card when the game launches. Still unplayable FPS under Win10. (ping shows under 100ms)

I’ve set GW2.exe to run as administrator and for Win 8/7 compatibility and still terrible framerates.

All other games I’ve tried seem to be running with no issue.

I’m out of ideas.

i7-4700MQ @2.4GHz with 16 GB ram
Alienware 17 laptop with Intel HD4600/nVidia 780M graphics cards.

I went back and did clean install to Win8.1 Pro(64 bit)>upgrade to Win 10 Pro (64 bit)

I’ve installed all the Dell Win10 drivers and Guild Wars still has terrible framerate. Grab the latest graphic drivers from both nVidia & Intel.

I’ve gone into the nVidia control panel and setup the GW2.exe runs on the nVidia GPU. Game launches and on the character select screen, I show 60fps. Go into game fps doesn’t go above 10fps. ALSO, maps taking FOREVER to load. Easily 2-3 times longer than Win 8.1.

Other weirdness.
Win 10 in general is just very sluggish. I launch an application and its 4-6 seconds before I even notice the app launched.
Installed Dragon Age Inquisition, Dishonored and the original STALKER game and jumped into the games. All 3 seemed to have no issue at all. (Just seems to take a little longer to launch the game. But once in game, everything is great.)

Made a post on the Microsoft’s community forums, so we’ll see. I’m out of ideas.

Just did a clean Windows 10 install, and GW2 runs the the FPS is terrible. I’m lucky to get 15 fps with everything on low.

In Win 8.1, I hardly ever dipped below 40 with max settings. Running an Alienware 17 laptop with a 780M GTX card. I’m also using the Nvidia drivers from the Dell site that are based on v353.62. I might try the latest version from Nvidia, but little worried based on different thread I just saw.

Not sure what to try.

Just went to Windows 10. Did a clean install and used the Nvidia drivers from Dell based on version 353.62. And the fps is utter crap. I turn everything to low and maybe I’m getting 15 fps.

In Window 8.1, I was always above 40 fps with everything turned on.

Mesmer was getting out of line. I did not appreciate being insulted every time I joined a pvp match.

If other professions are getting buffed, while we’re not “nerfed below what it was pre-patch”, isn’t it an indirect nerf?

All of those “ranger’s buffs” are just a fixes to match the pre-patch.
(It was worse than pre-patch for off-hand weapons)
Oh, and healing spring still worse than pre-patch.
Natural Healing still worse than pre-patch.
Spirits still worse than pre-patch.

The only unjustified nerf Mesmer gets is the ninja nerf of Mantra of Distraction having 5 seconds ICD between interruption.

To SlimChance: I used the Mantra build last week, and remembered I can spam power block consecutively. Are you sure 5 sec ICD was there? Meh, maybe I was wrong. I didn’t play Mesmer enough to be 100% sure because I don’t feel like PVP much for the last few weeks due to all these imbalances.

You might have your Mantra’s confused.
Mantra of Distraction/Power Lock has always had a 5 second cooldown.
Mantra of Pain/Power Spike has a 1 sec cooldown.

Here’s a link to one of my gameplay vid’s I posted back in March. In it I “blow up” my skill bar so you can easily see that Power Lock has a 5 second cooldown.

Have you tested this with all the mantras? Is bug causing ALL Mantra’s to have a 20 second cooldown?

EDIT: Just went into the mists and I don’t see what your describing. Mantra of Resolve has a 20 second cooldown to begin with.

I tried all the different Mantra’s and none of them seem to affect the other’s cooldowns. So what exactly are you doing?

You want reduce the daze duration, then do it for all control effects: all fears/knockback/knockdowns/push/pulls/etc get a reduction as well.

Things they should have done instead, by me:

  • Reduce Mantra of Distraction duration to 1/4 sec, like Headshot. Now it’s not nearly as much of an insta-cast on-demand snare but you can still use CS with Chaos Storm and Diversion.
  • Change The Pledge to a static 20% reduction.
  • Make it so that the cooldown of the last mantra charge you used applies to recasting the skill, if it has already recharged “underneath.” So MoD has a recharge of at least 5 seconds between each activation.
  • Reduce Mirror Blade damage by 10% instead of cutting bounces.
  • Change Chaotic Dampening to a flat 20% instead of the crappy thing it is now.
  • Raise Mantra of Recovery cooldown gently (start with 12 s or 15 s) if you think it’s too much healing.
  • More glass butterflies.

A mesmer suggesting reasonable changes to MoD?

I feel like I’ve come across a unicorn.

Reducing the MoD duration to 1/4second does nothing to CS. Because CS converts any daze to a 1 second stun.(doesn’t matter how long the daze is.)

Reducing MoD just hurts other lockdown builds that don’t use CS.

A more reasonable solution would be to change CS that it only produces a 1/4 stun. (I believe that is your intent.)

I have a feeling that it was done to lessen the impact of the" PU stealth>MirrorBlade>MoD/CS stun(Mantra Strengh)> MindWrack>Mind Stab" combo that is plaguing PvP/WvW. And that’s the only reason.

Meanwhile both CS and PU are untouched. Those will happen in the next patch.. So we get doubly hit. (just not at once.)

MoD/Power Lock is a daze. CS turns EVERY daze into a stun. (5 sec ICD)

Mesmer’s still has “Diversion”, “Chaos Storm”, “Counter Blade” and “Magic Bullet’s 2nd Bounce” which are ALL dazes that can NOW become “Stuns” BECAUSE OF CS.

Mesmers have been “dazing” players since the beginning and the pitch forks ONLY came out with CS was changed to a 100% daze>stun conversion.

Again, as the OP stated the issue is NOT Mantra of Distraction. The issue is the trait “Confounding Suggestions” was changed from a 50% chance of a stun to a 100% chance of a stun. And was also moved from a GM level to an ADEPT level in the trait changes.

Changing how MoD works, will have ZERO affect on what is happening right now. Because all the Mesmer needs is the “ONE” Power Lock/CS stun to do his burst.

Then he can stealth away until the cooldowns on his GS are over and go again.

So yes, CS is too powerful and needs to be changed. Mantra’s do not need to be touched. Because all that will do is hurt OTHER builds that do NOT use CS. (Granted, right now, pretty much every Mesmer is taking CS. But there are some of us, that do not.)

So yes, nerf CS. But leave the Mantra’s alone.

I think a duel between a Mesmer and a Thief of equal skill is a much more even match than some people are willing to admit. In fact, whether DP or SD, I’ve come across a lot of fantastic thieves post patch who have adapted to the new mesmer already.

Agreed, before the June update, I always said: “I only kill bad thieves.”

Now I say: “I only kill bad thieves.”

Ok,

The latest update to OBS has been crashing on me. So I finally just picked a match to post. Although this match doesn’t really “showcase” my build as I would like, but its one of those rare PUG matches where your lucky enough to get a team that just “clicks”.

So instead of showcasing a few good 1v1 matches, I thought a “good team effort” match would be a nice change. However, I will take credit for some “sweeeet” TimeWarp execution.

So if you like to see a lot of stealth, instant stuns or “100 – 0 one-shotting”, then I’d suggest look elsewhere.

The 4 Most Underestimated Traits

There is just really good choice’s in the “adept” Illusion slot. All three offer something different depending on the build your running.

Compounding Power if your a “phantasm” player and don’t shatter much.

The Pledge, for torch users. aka PU/stealth dependent builds. And another “condition removal” option.

And “Persistence of Memory” for a builds that shatter often. (See Illusion GM – Master of Fragmentation )

So I wouldn’t say its an ‘underestimated" trait. Its a good fit if your build can take advantage of it. (It’s in mine!!! )

People have been leaving PvP since the beginning. And its not because of one single class, its because there is a lack of “balancing” that has continued to plague the game.

When there are little to no balance changes, the gameplay becomes stale and boring, no matter what profession is “meta”.

Really, what do people expect. ANeT did a huge trait overhaul AND redid all the stat distribution/Amulet/Rune adjustments.

Not only can you expect bugs galore, but you have to anticipate some classes being stronger than others.

And there has been “little to none” balancing since the changes. (Which is not surprising, knowing the track record of the past 3 years.)

So until ANeT actually starts to “balance” the game at a “regular” schedule. People will just have to live with what we got or move on. I know that for the past 6 mos or so, my playtime has been slowly getting shorter and shorter.

Ok, so after the 6-23 patch, I’ve been tweaking my build around the new trait changes. I’ve been trying different variations to come up with something that has the same “trickster feel” as previous iterations.

So based on that requirement, “Echorupt” still is a Staff-Sword/Pistol build with the GM traits: Harmonious Mantras and Chaotic Interruptions.

Now that we can max out 3 lines, adding “Master of Fragmentation” gives the build cool little tools to make it more of an “improvisational” style of play.

On the June 23 patch notes it says:

Skills that convert boons and conditions now randomly select from all boons and conditions on the target.

It doesn’t specifically mention boon removal skills, but I was under the impression that boon removal skills will also be random. Is that the case? Or does the random part only apply to “conversion” skills?

Illusions are not pets/companions, they are HEXes in physical form.

Hex spells require a target, Illusions require a target.
Hex’s only affect the target, Illusions only attack their target.
Hex’s remain on the target until the Hex is removed, is timed out(triggered) or the target dies.
Illusions remain on a target until the Illusion is killed, is shattered or the target dies.

Illusions are NOT re-animated flesh and bones summoned by the dark arts.

Because my friends when it comes to balancing, ANET looks at traits at that level and will make adjustments such that there is a “meaningful” decision for the player. i.e. No single trait at any level should be more powerful than the other two. So CS needs to be similar in strength as “Empowered Illusions” and “Rending Shatters”.

Not only will they look at the other traits at the same level, but I’m sure they also consider other profession traits at that same level. For example, they will look at CS (Adept) and compare its relative strength to Mesmer as “Burning Precision”(Adept) is to an Elementalist.

They have gone on record that GM traits are “build” defining. And I think its safe to say, that most Mesmer’s agree that CS is too strong. Heck, we’re in a thread discussing ways to adjust. I’m merely adding the caveat that its too strong for an ADEPT trait. If it was a GM trait, its strength would be justified.

So YES, it does matter that its an ADEPT trait. Because at the end of the day that is how ANET is going to adjust it.

That is also my reasoning that MoD should not be touched. Because you should NOT nerf a skill just because of one ADEPT trait.

Again I disagree. Lockdown <> Stun.

There’s that OTHER lockdown trait called Chaotic Interruptions that is NOT in Domination. We now have better access to blinds. With Chronomancer, we’ll have access to SLOW. These can all be considered “lockdown”.

You want to nerf a skill that was never an issue until the ADEPT level CS was added. MoD is NOT the issue. MoD simply applies a daze. Its the TRAITS that make it powerful. The skill itself is fine.

CS is the problem, it is simply TOO much for an adept level trait.

I think the easiest “fix” that doesn’t turn into a huge CS nerf is to reduce the daze duration on MoD.

Because the problem isn’t just the rather low ICD, it’s that it makes the initial opening very powerful. If you up it to 10 seconds it’s not a big difference because you’re getting CS again right as Mirror Blade and Mind Wrack are ready. 1/2 or 1/4 second MoD would still be very powerful in the right hands.

(Being able to get a nice full-second stun out of F3 is legit. This needs no change.)

I disagree. That will only weaken other lockdown builds that don’t use CS. Before the trait changes, MoD was never a problem. CS is simply too strong for an Adept level trait. It needs to be adjusted.

Probably not. The question is which illusions are you referring?

Clones (the ones that look like you) do next to no damage even at level 80. These are there to confuse your enemy and feed your shatters.

Phantasms (the ones that are ethereal in nature) do good damage and supplement your damage. You should be seeing decent damage from them.

Mesmer bugs and trait placement issues

Hrm not sure if this is the right spot to post it, but is anyone else getting the mantra stacking buff when they use any healing skill, so far tried it with ether feast, mirror, and signet, all of them are applying the harmonious mantra buff.

I just logged in and didn’t see anything like this. I only saw the HM buff when I used a mantra. If I used Mantra of Recovery, saw buff. Swapped to Ether Feast, no buff.

Can you describe more about what your seeing? Or the steps to create it?

Are you in Inspiration? could it be the Mender’s Purity is casting Power Return and the HM buff is triggered off that?

EDIT: Yep, thats it. Go into Inspiration for Mender’s Purity and Harmonious Mantra’s in Dueling. Mender’s executes Power Return triggering the HM buff.
