I am quite serious. I’ve always used a controller in almost every MMO I have played besides in PvP. As I started in XI for 7 years, you get used to it. Xpadder allows you to map all your keys and it’s rather enjoyable to actually be able to sit back in my comfykitten chair or lay on my bed and play.

The fact that you have to admit that it is not good/effective enough in pvp also means you are less effective on the gamepad on PvE compared to your K/M combo, i would not want you in my dungeon run to be honest.

why were you looking at that wall instead of dodging and hitting that boss???

Answer

I was turning all that time to face him !!111

With a gamepad in a game were 99.9% use a K/M setup you are simply never quick and accurate to turn and look around losing mobility and awareness. It might work for you in Solo PvE to a degree (forget about doing those higher level mobs you could be handling otherwise) but in group PvE you are simply a liability ,dead weight that needs to be carried and in PvP you may as well be the enemy.

Even communicating in chat during a dungeon run is a compromised by it.

Lay down gamepad
move hands to keyboard on desk
Type
Pick up the gamepad again to continue playing

Seriously if you want to play a MMO and you choose/prefer to do it with a gamepad you are doing it wrong and not just a little bit.

How many times have you used a controller? I assume 0, because you have no clue what you’re talking about. You’re trying to tell me because in PvP since I tend to use my keyboard, BECAUSE Players are not AI, you wouldn’t want me in your dungeon group? Honestly, I wouldn’t want to be in your dungeon group. You sound terrible and I could most likely run circles around you in any dungeon, pvp, with or without a controller.

PS: As for communication, I don’t pug with scrubs. I hot key my Vent to my controller.

EDIT: Usually it is I who does the carrying sir. I will gladly give you a piggy back ride anyday, cause I’m a gentleman like that.

I don’t have the arrogance to consider people that PUG to be scrubs like you just did. Also i have a 360 since launch and have a 360 controller for my PC and even used it for a bit on DCUO which was even build for it but found that it was still way faster and more responsive to use m/k.

I played with a few people using 360 controllers in Tera not long ago and it was their main and constant excuse for everything that went wrong and tbh i believed them as it was quite noticable and consistent.

But i am sure you will label them as Puggers/scrubs since you own in pvp on your console pad.

Come and bring your scrubbing gamepadding toon into pvp and i will beat it while eating a sammich on any of my 5 toons.

U have a 32bit OS with 8gb of memory installed. Maybe it glitches out because of that. You could try and remove 4gb’s and see what happens, just a idea btw. It is not the first time i have seen out of memory errors in W32 due to page filing glitches etc in several games , especially memory hungry games like MMO’s.

P.S The 8gb is not doing anything anyway in that system. At most it will be able to use 3.5gb but that depends a lot on how much memory there is on your videocard and other devices. In your case you will not have more then 3gb (rounded number) availlable for anything.

GTX560ti @985mhz (havent tried 1ghz yet)

SSD

Same ingame settings

I get 50/60fps in lions arch with dips here and there between 40/45 fps. in Pve it is anything between 60 and 100/110 without Vsync with dips to 50.

I am using the 306.02 beta’s as i noticed that the new WHQL drivers gave a slight FPS hit.

Is LOD affecting draw distance ?

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: Smackjack.5071

Smackjack.5071

Depth blur maybe.

0_0

I dont even…

w/e

The draw distance is calculated by the game engine on the basis of how stressed the games main thread is. It adjusts accordingly , however it does so differently in different settings. In WvW it tries to maintain a longer draw distance then on the heavens mist island.

Lod has nothing to do with wheter or not a object is drawn or not but the level of detail at certain distances at which it is drawn.

I get amazing draw distance in PvE and WvW.

I guess I failed at writing this thread. I’m not saying the FPS I get is bad. I’m saying that there’s way too many people in that “Low FPS” thread with outdated hardware expecting ANet to cater to them. The benchmark numbers I linked are to show just how much tech changes over a span of four years. I still see my FPS in Org drop under 60 at times, and we used to play that on Pentium 4’s.

Laptops are no better because at half the clockspeed you’re a full generation (or two) behind desktops. At launch, were people able to play Q3 on a laptop? Were people able to play WoW on a laptop? Were people able to play Crysis on a laptop? No. Why should GW2 have to be any different? If you don’t want to upgrade, XBox and PS3 say hello.

Without software to push hardware, there’s less incentive to make better hardware. With no better hardware we may as well stick to playing 2D DOS games.

You failed in general.

I have a i5 @4.5 , 560ti @985mhz ,16gbddr and i am getting the exact same performance as you do so including the minimum FPS in lion’s arch. You might say that your hardware is not being utilized an considering your setup that is a understatement.

Next to that there are tons of people with better rigs then you with the top of the line i7’s and GTX 590’s/670/80’s in sli that are having performance issues.

You seem to only have the ability for one perspective,

Yours.

Quotes:
*Our time spent playing Guild Wars 2 before the beta closed was far too brief, unfortunately.

*(Update: Because we tested the game’s beta client in order to get this story ready in time for launch, the Guild Wars 2 lead engine programmer, Chad Taylor, dropped us a line to let us know that the game was updated with performance optimizations in the final build. One key change was putting the renderer in its own thread so that blocking driver calls wouldn’t create stoppages in the main game loop. He mentioned that this change should make a notable difference on machines with four or more CPU execution cores, and that a few of the graphics preset options were also tweaked.

As a result of these changes, we’d like to revisit Guild Wars 2 in the near future to re-benchmark CPU performance and update the driver settings images with examples from the full release. Stay tuned for the update, due in mid-September.)

Yup.. and then , outside of the PR talk the usual real world performance: Higher clocked Dual cores still outperform it.

Its not a bad test. This is what is true fol allgames as of today . SP or MMO/MP Beyond 2 cores they all perform better with more mhz rather then more cores. This has been true since day one of the first quad cores and still is.

Which is why i always shake my head at gamers thinking that their new 3.0ghz octacore cpu will be amazing at games since a dual core running at higher clock speed will outperform it.

VirtualBS: You need to understand that this crash often locks up the computer before it is able to throw a blue screen, as illustrated by my issues and skeletank or create a minidump.

Quite often there is no stop code for us to diagnose with or dump to run bluescreen view with.

Im still hoping a dev will weigh in on this topic.

You still havent posted the bsod code that you get. If it is a problem with the client and you actually post the BSOD code then others might recognise that they have the same one and that it systematically occurs with more users.

Smackjack.5071

Yeh but still many games that have not been out long have stated the intention for SLI and so on and now have it…after many months of Betas and beating around the Bush ANet still has said nothing..

Not counting the lack of DX11 as well which just about every other modern game has standard.

Also many of these games have 64 bit clients as well.

ANet is behind on the “Modern” part of their game.

DX11 have you actually played any of these DX11 enabled mmo’s ?
I have.

Effect is next to nothing.

In LOTRO it makes water look better but yet GW2 beats it using DX9

In WoW……..You cannot even notice DX11 being there tbh

In TWS you get tesselated stones on the beach
And have you seen TXAA in TWS? it looks horendous

For the record most MMO’s still today do not support SLI and the ones you mentioned have had that game engine up and running for years already.

You also complain about it not having OFFICIALL support even tho you mention that SLI works for you , so why cry so much.

Do you think that a 64bit client is going to magically increase performance ? If so think again.

Crysis (a non mmo SP) had it , to no effect.
Crysis : they did not even bother with a 64bit client because if this

Aion (MMO) has it , tried it ,no difference.
(my specs are up to snuff to take advantage of 64bit clients : i5 @ 4.5ghz , 16gb, 560ti @985mhz)

If anything i have noticed is that 64bit clients and DX10/11 games bring more problems then a vast improvement in quality. Heck all 3 DX10/11 enabled mmos’ (sort off) dont even manage to look much better or better at all.

but if having those specs on the box give you that much of a hard on then go play one of those titles, just make sure to keep telling yourself that DX11 is really enabled while playing those games to remind yourself of it or you will not notice it.

Windows 8 might be released to the manufacturer, but that doesn’t mean everyone else is completely ready for it – AMD, nVidia, etc. There are still going to be several bugs on release and it will be several months (just as with any OS) before Windows 8 will be ready. So no, it is just silly to ask for support for GW2 on an “unpolished” OS. There’s enough in the works for ArenaNet than to deal with this at the moment.

What rubbish. Of course they are ready for it. Microsoft doesn’t just throw a new version of windows out with no prior heads up to the card manufacturers. NVidia etc have had Windows 8 for months and there are perfectly good drivers for it on their site. One could always argue that it is buggy of course, and hopefully that it will become less buggy with time, but from my experience of it so far, it is already less buggy than Vista is years after release.

And I am quite sure that ArenaNet has Windows 8 installed for testing purposes and has already done extensive testing. Pretty soon it will be the default operating system for newly bought machines, so it would be pretty stupid of them not to have tested it!

No matter how you spin it W8 is not yet supported by A-net.

I believe these details were from an internal source and Anet are just trying to cover it up.

I use a different password for every account for websites and games I use, there is zero interchangeability. Further more I was never registered with any fansites or any sites relating to guild wars 2! Which kinda narrows down where they could have gotten login details from…

I have a “Clean” computer which I only use for gaming and work, so no key logging or any other malicious activities can occur. I have a laptop I use for everything else which I can access next to my computer, so even if something were to happen there would be no byplay between them (and yes my home network is set as public for other really unlikely issues that can still be possible).

I was also online when I was hacked, I spent 30 minutes in a “mini game” of logout the other person wars. While trying to change my password in the my account settings page which would not work until I was finally defeated and cleaned out – amusingly probably the most intense and challanging thing ive done in GW2 so far … other than pressing button 2 for 5 minutes while fighting zhaitan

All evidence from my perspective is pointing to it clearly being an internal breach – be it hack or someone selling the details on, which Anet are covering up. Moral is you are never safe, Anet cant guarantee your account security and they wont replace lost items, so just bare that in mind.

Anyone else find their situation similar? Fansites … yeah right.

It doesn’t have to be a specific GW2 fan site it could be any game site but besides that i have seen posts like this for years now on every game telling how they got their computer shielded from radioactive blasts connected to through secret NSA servers behind CIA firewalls running the best NSA protection software and never go to any sites that could compromise you and the conclude that the hacking is internal at the devs company of the game you currently play.

I also got a frame boost in UT3 when I selected my preferences emphasising quality (Nvidia control panel) with that which I found bizarre, why would a game run better when anti-aliasing was forced upon it by an Nvidia 9800 (and did indeed include AA) in an engine kinda famously reluctant with AA? I think the Unreal Engine is good but varied on results.

the massive qq

I wonder how long it will take for people to grow up and realize there’s a difference between blind stupid “QQ” and simply criticizing something … sigh

finding out you are up against a pre-made that basically only enters to destroy pugs and feel better because of it would kill the open matches fast.

Yeah sure. Because 2 or 3 premade people can totally destroy the opposing team …

No one’s asking for a whole premade team to be able to stick together. People just want to play with their friends and tournaments are not an option (as they’re far from casual friendly). I don’t see why it’s so hard to understand that some people just want to play some casual PvP with their friends …

Looks like you already know all of the reasons, you just don’t care and want to pubstomp.

You do like to troll a lot, don’t you?

Ehm 2 or 3 people that are in coms with each other against a team that isn’t can totally decimate the opposing team. It would make for a huge imbalance. Others have already pointed this out in here.

And yes it is massive QQ since there is already a option to play matches as a group. Why you so badly need to enter open matches that consists mainly of pugs is beyond me.

When DAoC first started there were no immunity timers so it was possible to completely shut down another player (in some cases whole armies, if you were a pac healer) for an entire combat so that one person did nothing except die, which most people don’t find entertaining. This led to everyone rolling classes with tons of cc just to stay competitive and the game suffered greatly. This in turn led Mythic to introduce CC timers so that no one could completely shut down another player who had at least a modicum of skill.

Now, I realize that the CC in GW2 is a little shorter, but you still run into the same problem because people die a lot faster in GW2. Therefore, you still end up with some classes that can completely shut down another player, because most players have maybe two CC breakers on a timer much longer than the average combat. For instance, I rolled up a Thief the other day and discovered I can spam Pistol Whip over and over. My opponent may stop one stun, but I just whack the three key again and presto! He’s stunned again! This clever strategy worked in both PvE and WvW for excellent brain-free playing and I acquired many badges of honor.

I would suggest a separate five second timer for each type of CC. At least that way your opponent will have to hit different keys to try and lock you down instead of just hitting the same one over and over. Personally, I think it might be more fun for everyone.

Thanks,
Matt

You picked the only class in the game that does not have any CD’s to prove this point and then claim that the game mechanics need to be changed? Which still does nothing to actually prove any of this. You also conveniently forget the limited initiative needed to execute it, You could potentially pistol whip 3 times sure but it only has a 1 second daze per shot so 3x pistol whip will net you a 3 second stun while at the same time rooting your toon in place making your thief a free kill on the field.

Also anyone that manages to get pistol whipped 3 times in a row should be playing zynga games on facebook instead of gw2 pvp.

I dont see the problem here.

Well in Gw2 do you really need more than 8 characters since each character can go to any zone at any level and do things. At most i can see someone needing 16 one of each class and each sex but i think 8 is about the only needed amount.

You won’t be able to see all the personal storylines with 8 characters.
Asura have 3*3*4=36 different storylines
Charr have 3*5*3=45 different storylines
Human have 3*3*6=54 different storylines
Norn have 3*3*4=36 different storylines
Sylvari have 3*3*4=36 different storylines

Then there’s also branching within each story.

tbh the personal story is a little bit to thin to justify leveling that many alts for its more filler then anything else, nice that it is there but that is about it.

Maybe it had proper SS in the beta but had performance issues and did not quite gel wit the rest of the code. This is why Tera had a big DD logo on the initial loading screen but no actual DD implemented

The panning issue creeps up from time to time it is not constant.

I just whish GW2 will one day have the excellent SS that TSW has because that was simply stellar !

Surely with the combat system being so reliant on key pushes, especially the 1-0 keys, a system like this really wouldn’t work?

It’s OK for FPS and TPS games because they’re not so reliant on the 1-0 keys, but with a game like Guild Wars 2, where the 1-0 keys are always in use, it seems that it would add an extra layer of commands that would simply work to complicate affairs for the player.

Just my thoughts ;s

I suppose the system could work if we key bind the commands somewhere else, or if they were on an alternative key toggle. Being able to hit shift, then 1 (or another key), to throw out a heal command (or the like) would be quite useful.

Tera has this feature and worked just fine , it was easy to use and effective.
