No, but like, he wants UTILITY skills.

Say he wants to play a battlemage. Let’s take Mesmer for example.

Now he wants to make it really bursty, so he’s wants some stealth to go in and out of comba- oh…

No. I think it’s more like he wants a guardian who can cast spells…. uh, oh.

OK, well maybe he wants a ranger who can melee….. uh, ok.

Oh, wait. I know. He wants a TOUCH RANGER.

It’s certainly not something I agree with as I have an optimistic belief that everything should be available to everyone at all times as long as they put the effort into getting them.

You mean, like the launch version of the game where getting max tier gear didn’t take a ludicrous amount of grind.

If they were to do dual professions, they would have to do it skillfully. And by that, I mean that they’d have to make it so no weapons overlap, and the skills you could set up were non-gamebreaking ones. Elites, traits, and class mechanics would be off the table

So….. no Echo Mending?

The rest of us left long long ago some multiple times and were told by the 1% multiple times to go play something else, even tho originally this game was made for the 65% not the dungeoneers, these things were said here in the forums and some even harassed us in game because we spoke out against the changes that were imposed on the game to satisfy the “everything isn’t hardcore enough” crowd. (I’ve personally only recently returned.)

This game has never been hardcore. Ascended equipment didn’t change that. Grinding for hours and hours for a metric ton of silk doesn’t make anything hardcore. It just means that someone has a lot of time to waste.

Yes, we don’t need a dual class system but that doesn’t mean it won’t come about because new players like that kind of thing.

I mean, it is a possibility. Anything to keep new players coming to the game, right?

You’re totally right. New players would probably love a dual-class system. In fact, I think we should have a tri-class system. That way, you could finally be surrounded by warriors who are doing nothing but facetanking mobs with Echo Mending.

Most WvWvW chatter is more on the TS, or small status reports in /team . . . occasionally you’ll get a request for information or help but they’re not often.

Map chat is usually pretty busy on my server. But, nothing seemed to be going on. There were a couple of commanders there (who I had never seen command) but I was really surprised at the lack of chatter.

I might have just caught them at a dead time. I might consider logging in tomorrow and see if I get the same results.

Oh, and Lion’s Arch is still a cesspool people try to start “discussions” of politics or religion in semi-constantly.

Yeah, the one map where there definitely wasn’t a lack of chatter was Lion’s Arch. In fact, there was still too much chatter going on, there.

That’s why I said it’s a good idea. Having hostile monsters in the starter areas could be confusing. I mean, those red names might attack you before you attack them. If you are just starting out with the game, you might not be ready to die yet.

NPE isn’t all doom and gloom, but the way they implemented skill and utility gating (and going further back, traits) is actually broken (in some specific cases) and just isn’t fun. If I wanted that experience I could get it in every other cookie cutter mmo on the market.

The more this game becomes like a F2P cookie-cutter MMO, the more players it will lose. Many of us liked GW2 because it was different. Fast leveling, no grind for max gear (until they added ascended), jumping puzzles which are far better than what other MMO’s had to offer, WvWvW mode (although it had a few major problems at launch)

Instead of improving on GW2’s assets, instead we just get the same level-gating features that we’ve played in every MMO before this one. GW2 was great because it tried to reinvent the wheel, and succeeded at various levels in some of those attempts (well, not so much with the focus on the Living Story). But, the game has taken a complete 180 from where it was at launch, and now it is becoming any other MMO with boring quests and simplistic gameplay.

I logged in tonight to play, and it seems that map chat is dead even in WvWvW mode. When it’s not dead, it’s somebody complaining about NPE. It seems that a lot of people have already decided to give GW2 a pass until Arenanet makes an official announcement on which of these changes are here to stay.

Dry Top is destined to become another Southsun Cove. Anet should stick what’s worked in the past, and that’s temporary content that requires high player turnout. The only place I’d like to see new permanent content is in instances.

I will agree that Escape From Lion’s Arch, and to a lesser extent Battle For Lion’s Arch had a lot of interesting stuff in them. It seems like the main problem is that it would be difficult to make content like that and make it replayable, so we are getting more instanced stories like we have seen in Living World 2.

The issue is that if you want all of your content to be replayable, and you make it REQUIRE a group just to stand a chance to complete the events and achievements, then anyone who missed the achievements the first time around will have to get some group or guild together just to help them through it. So, I don’t think making content that requires a group is a good idea for Season 2. If you can replay an episode but you need more than five people just to complete the episode, much less get all the achievements, it’s not going to help most people.

My biggest criticism is that the Lion’s Arch chain REQUIRED a zerg just to complete most of the content and particularly the achievements. I was a huge critic at the time. EFLA was much better because you could still rescue civvies with a small group and it made a significant difference to the rewards at the end of the instance. But, when the story progressed to BFLA pretty much everything was zerg boss mechanics with timers and huge health bars.

. . . some people are calling the other changes also negative. Primarily the people seeing rangers are no longer always free bags in WvW . . .

To be honest, being a ranger was pretty hard in WvWvW mode. They are decent at assaulting and defending towers, and Barrage can hit siege which some other professions can’t easily hit. But, other than that, they weren’t particularly great.

Rangers were pretty good at roaming, though, seeing as how you could get some decent mobility with greatsword and you could 1vCamp by getting everything to attack your pet.

Something that does stand out to me is the number of people who were not frequent forum posters before this patch that are coming to the forums to comment (mostly to complain).

I am seeing:

1) people who have very little post history before the patch
2) people whose post history shows little or no complaining prior to this patch.
3) people who have no post history before this patch

and so on.

The complaints are not just a forum regular phenomenon.

Check my post history. I think you’ll find that I’ve posted very little before 9/9. And by “very little” I don’t remember ever visiting these forums before that, much less logging in. So, I doubt I have even a single post before then. But, as Vayne pointed out, I have a faulty memory.

Yep but you’re making statements in a number of threads, at least one of of which is inaccurate, because you forgot.

So, I don’t have a perfect memory. Sue me.

If you like, I can go back and edit the post to correct it, assuming there is no time-gating for editing posts on the forums.

But you know, if you can forget something so big and obvious, and you haven’t really played the new content because you’re not paid to test it, I guess I’ll have to take your comments with a grain of salt from this point out, because you’re commenting an awful lot on something you’re not testing.

Considering how many people on the forums are blatantly defending or attacking the new patch, you should have been taking just about everyone’s comments with a grain of salt, and a whole package of salt in a few cases.

I tend to be skeptical of claims made in forums, anyway, particularly when people claim to site numbers and statistics.

But, since you seem to have a decent memory and you play the game so much more than I do, I trust that you can correct any inaccurate statements that I make. So, at least I have that going for me.

And it’s not just you. I don’t want to single you out. There’s been quite a bit of misinformation being spread in a number of threads, by people who have supposedly tested the patch.

I haven’t seen that much misinformation being spread, other than perhaps the various rumors and theories for Arenanet’s motivations for making the changes.

I think a lot the misinformation had to do with the fact that some of the new features are very confusing, for example the new level-up screens making it appear that you’ve unlocked features when it is really just informing you of features. This is the main reason that on 9/9 I was having difficulty telling what was actually locked and what was just people trolling in map-chat. People were saying that Diving Goggles were locked, or that salvaging was locked, or that jumping puzzles were locked. I had no way to test any of this in-game as my character was already level 10 at the time, and I didn’t want to have to delete any characters just to free up a character slot to make a level 1 so I could see what Arenanet level-gated and what they didn’t.

This is my story....

I dunno man, did we really need a tutorial on how to dodge ffs??

Yes.

The things this game has needed the most since launch:

1) Downed tutorial. There still isn’t one, as far as I can tell.

2) Ability to view downed skills in hero panel. Was this ever added? I’ve never noticed them if they are there.

3) Dodge tutorial. Dodging is one of the most integral mechanics of the game, yet there was basically no in-game explanation about it.

2) The people who stick around may just give up after a bit and give it some time – you only have so much energy to get bothered about things in your life.

Actually, I’m just sticking around because the only other MMO I have any interest in at all isn’t released yet here in the states. So, I might be posting for another…. three days. After that, I might not be around here much if at all unless Arenanet actually implements changes to Guild Wars 2 that actually make the game more fun rather than less fun. Which, I find unlikely. Still, I’m interested enough in seeing how they react to the general discontent to stick around, at least until I find a better game or they confirm that they really are taking the game in the “NPE direction”

That’s the patch you’re commenting on though. You must have tested it very thoroughly.

I tested it enough to know that it was a bug-laden mess that was poorly designed without proper testing before it was released to the live servers. I didn’t feel much desire to test it beyond that. I don’t get paid to test every change made in a patch. I play computer games to have fun, which is something I was no longer having.

We used to say that if you want to do damage as an Engineer, you have to play Bach on your keyboard. If you want to do damage as a Warrior, you have to press “2”

Engineer is probably the second most complicated profession in the game, behind elementalist. They may or may not be more difficult to play than a mesmer. I still find Elementalist the most difficult profession to play, because you can’t “camp” skills nearly as much as other professions. Even the Engineer can camp skills (traited grenades, for example) and still be fairly effective. Elementalist really has to use most of their skills.

I really want to know who had the idea of developing all this content and then throwing it out.

The only people who seemed to think it was a good idea was Arenanet. I think they wanted the game to focus on Living Story rather than traditional expansion content. Unfortunately for them, Living Story got off to an extremely rocky start, and it was widely criticized for various reasons.

That said, yes, letting players access old content in some form or other is a good idea. Seems like some of it would be good for guilds to tackle.

Tower Of Nightmares might be fun to run through with a group. It would give everyone a chance to use their 72 potions of slaying Scarlet’s armies that are sitting around in their bank.
