Diving goggles level gated?

We really need a thread that lists a complete list of the real gated features and the ones that people make up. When I was playing the game, I seriously couldn’t tell the difference between the trolls making fun of the game and the REAL gated content. Diving goggles gated? Sounded fake. Jumping puzzles gated until you reach level 20? Sounded plausible. Salvage kits gated? I had no idea since my character was a high enough level to use salvage kits, apparently.

Someone please make a comprehensive list of what is actually gated and what is not.

There’s been a lot of optimization in this game over time. My computer used to struggle when lots of things were on the screen. I really haven’t had many problems in a long time as long as I keep my video settings really low. I used to have serious problems with world bosses and WvWvW mode. But, world bosses haven’t given me much trouble in a long time, and I don’t really notice much slowdown in WvWvW unless I’m near a particularly large group of players.

This just in. A game which is not to everyone’s liking. The foundations of earth moved as the whole world watched in silence as 1% of it’s playerbase left and…nothing happened and life went on. Better for those who do enjoy the game, might I add.

Fortunately for me, I live in a little thing that I like to call “reality”

So, your made-up statistics have no effect on me. YOU can watch in silence as a percentage of the playerbase WHICH NEITHER YOU NOR I HAVE ANY METHOD OF ESTIMATING leaves the game. For your sake, I hope that “nothing happens” when I and people like myself stop playing. It would look pretty bad for a developer to manage their game so horribly that they literally kill it with their own decisions.

But, I think we all know that your “1% of the playerbase” number that you pulled out of thin air is full of the proverbial brown substance.

New TRADING POST is terrible

It takes 2 minutes to learn, is faster, and can be done with 1 hand now.

Wrong. The new Trading Post is certainly NOT faster for quickselling items, which is what the OP said that he used it for the most. So, for the topic creator, the new UI is certainly not faster.

I do agree that it shouldn’t take much more than a few minutes to learn, though, at least for just basic selling or listing of items. But, it is certainly NOT faster for quickselling compared to the old UI

You won’t even give them a chance to make a mends?

I haven’t liked the direction that this game has been taking, for a long time. It’s not about making amends. This is the straw that broke the camel’s back. Arenanet would have to do more than revert to pre-9/9 to get me to invest my time in this game. Simply reverting the recent changes wouldn’t be enough. They’ve shown time and time again that they refuse to implement the changes that the players want in the game, and instead they focus on crazy stuff that they think will attract new players.

I’ve given Arenanet plenty of chances. They’ve failed in many ways, but the game was at least more fun than competing games in the genre. This isn’t about giving Arenanet a chance. This is about choosing to play a better game, and hopefully one that won’t be intentionally ruined by the developers.

I don’t play this game so that Arenanet can feel good about what they’ve created. I play this game because it is fun, or at least it was.

I will always love what this game could have been, but I hate what it is now. I’m in the process of finding a game to replace this one.

I’m not about to uninstall this game.

You aren’t. I am. I’d rather remember this game for what it was than play it for the mess it has become. ArcheAge releases in six days. If this mess isn’t cleaned up by then, I’m uninstalling GW2.

If i were to start the game today as a new player my first impression would be "whats different with this compared to other mmos?

Uh, there is no difference between this game and other MMO’s. The only real difference now are the dynamic events, which are still much better than traditional quests. But other than those, there is really no difference between the current version of Guild Wars 2 and any other action-combat MMO. This game is just like any sub-par free-to-play MMO except that it’s not free-to-play and it has some decent voice acting. I mean, I guess there is the Living Story when that restarts, but the Living Story isn’t very good anyway so it’s hardly a selling point (regardless of the fact that it’s used it pretty much every advertisement for the game)

Lastly i would like to point out that the new dodging tutorial (which i dont really get why was added?) along with a combo tutorial (as i am still abit unsure how combos work) could instead be worked into the early story as part of a training mission or something that can be skipped but does reward you if you do it.

You can’t combo at low levels because you don’t have the skills to do it, especially under this new system. Well, I guess a Guardian wielding a hammer can combo even with skills 4 and 5 locked. But for many professions you usually need skill 4 or 5 or a utility skill or a combination of them to be able to do any combos without needing other players to help out.

Oh, I forgot about one important thing. There is still a difference between this game and other MMO’s. The difference is THE INCREDIBLY WELL-DESIGNED JUMPING PUZZLES. So if you like to fall to your death after falling to your death, this is the game for you. The jumping puzzles are fantastic. As for the rest of the game, it’s very mediocre now. Maybe WvWvW is still good if Arenanet hasn’t managed to ruin that yet.

Seriously, though, the jumping puzzles in this game are frustrating in the best and worst ways. Try them out. You won’t regret it, or you will, depending on how much patience you have.

I can't recommend this game anymore.

I certainly won’t be making any more characters on my account and I’m not even sure if my brother will continue playing.

ArcheAge releases in North America in six days. You and your brother should give it a try. It couldn’t be any worse than China Wars 2. Well, it could, but at this point I’m willing to try anything other than this game.

this will definitely make its way here sooner than later (within a year). the game is being set up to go to a true F2P model. the consolidation of server resources and extreme systems lvl-gating is already here. all we need now is the cash shop to include gem-gated content, gem-bought permanent stat enhancements (think uber sigils/runes that have a chance to fail at crafting…..unless you buy the item that increases success rate).

this is on the way.

I wish I could disagree with you, but the changes recently resemble F2P nonsense that I’ve seen in other games.

As stated in the title, I began around 2 weeks ago

I feel sorry for you. You got ripped by Arenanet. This game used to have so much going for it. Leveling was better even before the trait revamp (which you never experienced) because you didn’t have to wait until high levels to get traits. You could use ANY utility skill at level 5 as long as you had enough skill points to learn it. You could use ANY healing skill at any level as long as you had enough skill points to learn it. You could even be using A.E.D. by level 2 if you farmed for skill scrolls on a different character. Although, for a completely new character, it would be nearly impossible to get 25 skill points at extremely low levels.

You never experienced the best parts of this game, and you barely even had time to experience the good parts. You deserve a refund.

I can't possibly recommend this game anymore

"Leveling as a Reward" Experience Crippling!

To be fair, once you’ve reached lvl 10 all weapons skills are unlocked for all weapons. Unlocking each weapon skills individually was way more grindier than under this new system.

Lies. In the previous system, your weapon skills unlocked faster the higher level you were. So, if you were a really high level and used a weapon that you had never used before, you would unlock skill 2 by killing A SINGLE MONSTER.

There is no way that I would consider that grindy. The only way it is grindy is if you try to unlock every weapon skill for every single weapon as soon as you get into the game. If you just play the game normally and choose two weapons to use or just use whatever you find when it is stronger than what you were currently using, you would unlock skills faster than under the new system.

Calm down! Give anet time to salvage the mess

Whether its really bugs or their realisation that no one like their feature designs,
and they are using “bugs” as an excuse to salvage the issue, I say give them a
couple of days to sort things out. Lets see how it goes.

Even if they were trying to salvage the issue, WHICH I DON’T BELIEVE FOR A SECOND, you have still missed the point. The “mess” should have never been implemented in the first place.

I’m glad you guys finally realized how unable ANet is to handle GW2. I’m sad it took you 2 years.

To be fair, there were some good aspects to the game over those 2 years. There were a lot of improvements to WvW. And there were some improvements to PvE, for awhile. But, the bad far outweighs the good. The days at launch of getting slaughtered by champions until you realized that you can’t solo them at low levels are gone. Even the champion trains in Queensdale, which were annoying as anything, were a lot more fun than this dumbed down mess that we have now. I’ve never had less fun in PvE than I had last night.

I have one word for you ANet...

Before it’s too late, revert. Even thought it’s probably already too late.

Way too late. They would have to do more than revert to get me to consider playing this game again. They would have to actually start listening to what the players want. I can’t trust Arenanet after they created a mess like this. Simply reverting to what we had before is not enough to gain my trust.

It’s time for us old-timers to realize that what we want, and what ArenaNet wants is no longer the same.

I just realized that yesterday. I’ll be playing ArcheAge in six days. Unless Arenanet does something about China Wars 2, I’ll be uninstalling this game.

A system which directs a level 2 character to Frostgorge Sound is not an accessible system.

The guy I saw in the YouTube video was level 3, I think. So, he was clearly strong enough to survive being one-shotted by monsters there, which is fortunate for him since he didn’t have access to downed state to recover.

"New player experience" is broken.

Yes, i managed to get the skill point after downscaled player triggered it. But this is just wrong. We should be able to spar with ANY npc. This is part of the challenge right?

Aha! You are forgetting why it is called a “Skill Challenge” you see. It’s not called a Skill Challenge so that you can trigger it on any character and possibly die. It’s called Skill Challenge because you have to be an arbitrary level to trigger it unless a high level is there to do it for you, in which case you probably won’t die because the high level player can easily solo the challenge, anyway. That’s where the “challenge” part of Skill Challenge comes from.

all the 80s in the world are not going to stop me from going to archeage in 2 days…

I agree. I don’t care how many 80’s are on my account. The fact that they completely broke the leveling experience for my new necromancer ruins the game for me. I’ll be trying out ArcheAge.

I wonder if Wooden Potatoes and Matt Visual will have the testicular fortitude to speak honestly about this update.

If WoodenPotatoes approves of this patch, I’m unsubscribing from his channel. I can’t take anyone who defends this patch seriously unless they’ve only been playing level 80’s and they haven’t tried starting a new character. This new patch is a poorly thought out, badly designed, buggy mess.
