Instead I bought Archeage Founders.
Don’t believe the " it’s pay2win" hype…
Actually, ArcheAge is completely pay2win. Sorry to burst your bubble. Not only do you have to subscribe to own land (which is pretty important for crafting) but crafting itself is total Korean RNG. So, yeah, if you want max equipment you’re going to be praying to RNG gods and either spending a ridiculous amount of time farming for materials, or spending real world cash.
Of course, the PvP in ArcheAge is more about teamwork and guilds and stuff like that. So, I have no idea what kind of a difference that having max gear will actually make. But, it’s going to be pretty hard to get max gear without spending real world money unless you get really lucky with the RNG.
Having played games with downscaling before, I can flat out guarantee you that it is quite possible to do WAY better than this, making it so that if you downscale, you are actually on a par with the low levels for which the zone/mission/boss was originally intended.
You can blame that one the April patch (as well as the new NPE patch) for having to make lower level monsters weaker to match making low level characters weaker by removing their traits and skills. The result is that a level 80 can basically 1-shot everything wearing Cleric’s gear.
I’m just waiting for an Angry Joe video to say “Anet Done f.* ** ed it up”. xD
I’m pretty sure that’s exactly what he would say.
Thanks. I’d see Guild Puzzles around the map and someone in my guild mentioned them. Good to know you can still “wear your colours” if you want.
Pro-tip: you can do Guild Puzzle and Guild Rush even if it’s not your guild that activated it. I helped a guild with a puzzle once. And, the cool thing is that I really did help them because not all of their players were in the right place.
I also joined a Guild Rush that I just happened upon while heading to something else. It was fun.
Both Anet and the players have to learn to deal with these changes.
Or they could become former players.
Compared to many other more game affecting changes, these are among the most inappropriate overreactions I have ever witnessed in the game so far. Ascended gear, trait changes, the megaserver, karma changes, wardrobe, etc. are all way more “game changing”
You are ignoring the fact that most of those changes also had significant positives to go along with the negatives, whereas this new patch has very few positives.
1. You can do that in pretty much any single map (but its faster on different maps)
No, it’s not. It’s fastest in Thaumanova.
That’s odd. I always did my daily kill variety in a single map….
Not
Playing
Ever
I like the way you think.
Every time you say Prophecies and Searing, it makes me want to play Guild Wars.
I wonder if I still have it installed on this computer?
Great quote, was there to see SWG burn. Sony Entertainment Online tried to compete with World of Warcraft, and dumbed down their game to appeal to a larger audience. Arenanet is literally in the same situation. Only they’re competing with a 10 year old title. Still failing miserably.
Arenanet can’t make a better WoW than Blizzard.
They came up with it on their own and messed it up royally, judging by the level of backlash that rivals those of Scarlet.
NPE is worse than Scarlet. Scarlet at least had an awesome voice actress.
New

The pre-April system was the best.
GW2 isn’t fun for me anymore. And if a game isn’t fun, why go on playing it?
Same here. I’ve been playing GW2 for two years, but I’ve been playing very “on and off” over the last year, in part because of the direction Arenanet has been taking the game.
The new mantra is “If it ain’t broke, let’s break it and and see if we can make it better”
Time for ArcheAge.
Yeah, that’s basically how I’ve been feeling for the last four days.
Doesn’t matter. Would be okay with some adjustments just means its NOT ok now.
Like I said, 68% of people voted that the patch is not OK. So, that’s 68% of the people that responded to Vayne’s poll which he is trying to use to defend the current patch.
Yeah. Vayne is not being dishonest or misleading in any way. Nope. Not happening.
Hell, the tutorial area could easily be a dream we’re having ingame.
You’re a sylvari, aren’t you?
I haven’t noticed a difference. I made a necromancer, and I’m still getting mostly leather.
The game is still prompting my level 5 to go to Blazeridge Steppes, apparently new challenges await me there. I base my leveling experience from there.
There are also new challenges that await you in Frostgorge Sound.
Enjoy your gemshop skins and gambling.
Well, to give them credit, they have added a lot of achievements to the game. In fact, the achievement system is the only thing that seems to improve significantly every patch. I was a huge critic of the ORIGINAL achievement overhaul a long time ago, because it looked like Arenanet was spending too many resources on the achievement system and not on other things.
So, we basically have Achievement Wars 2. And while I do like what they’ve done with achievements, that doesn’t make up for the fact that they seemed to have spent most of their time and resources on achievements and Living Story.
Get used to wearing a trenchcoat.
Arenanet doesn’t want you to play the game your way. You have to play the game their way, now.
Killing monsters higher than your current level would be too confusing for new players.
Guild Wars 2 actually has the best community I’ve ever seen in any MMO.
Well, that’s a pity. I had heard this Super Adventure box was cool (youtube vids make it seem like epic fun) sad I won’t be able to experience this
It’s basically like Zelda. If you like the Legend Of Zelda, you might like SAB.
They are too busy implementing their “New Player Experience”
They don’t have time to fix new bugs, or even old bugs.
According to your poll, 68% of respondents say that the changes are not good as-is.
How long does it take to map the major cities? I know I always get to level 6 on all of my new characters by mapping The Grove and Hoelbrak, and then doing a partial mapping of Lion’s Arch, Rata Sum, Divinity’s Reach, and the Black Citadel. I don’t even know how much experience you get if you completely map all of them, but it would have to get you to at least level 7
For a low level character without any sort of passive speed boost this seems slow
Uh, you do know that you can talk to NPC’s and interactable objects to get speed boons. Right? Or are those level-gated now, as well?
The new changes to leveling would be okay with some adjustment. By “some” I mean a lot.
According to the patch notes, the leveling speed through levels 1-15 was accelerated greatly compared to before.
Yeah, but that’s only for levels 1-15. After that, you level slower because you don’t have all of the skills that you would have had before. You still only have one utility skill, you don’t have all of your underwater skills, etc.
Yes, you do level a lot faster at 1-15. I’ve confirmed it. With an experience booster pre-patch I was getting 10 xp (without bonus xp) from a low level enemy while post-patch I was getting 18 xp (without bonus xp) from the exact same level mobs. That’s 80% more experience per kill. But, that doesn’t help you for levels 16-40 which go slower now. At least, in regards to fighting mobs. You can still gain experience from things which aren’t affected by your lack of skills, such as many heart quests.

OK. First of all:
1) Exotic weapons and armor can be bought in WvW for 1 gold + badges if you have any badges.
2) WvW vendors also sell rare armor and weapons for Karma, but NOT trinkets. So, I usually buy exotic trinkets on the Trading Post if I’m strapped for cash, and go for rare armor and weapons.
3) If you are strapped for cash, you might want to consider getting a really cheap armor off the Trading Post, such as Cleric’s which was about 1 gold when I bought it. Having a full set of exotic armor and weapons will make you stronger than having a couple of exotic pieces with your preferred stat and the rest of your gear being stuck as Masterwork and Rare.
4) As someone else already mentioned, the equipment sold by WvW vendors cannot be salvaged. So, if you don’t want to waste your money then just buy some really cheap runes and sigils to put in them. There are some runes and sigils on the trading post that are pretty useful that you can get for very cheap. They won’t give you the “max deeps” but they will increase your effectiveness by a lot. If you put expensive runes and sigils in the vendor gear, you will eventually have to trash them and you will never be able to get them out. So, putting runes in there that cost six gold pieces is a complete waste, especially if you eventually intend to replace your armor and weapons with ascended. Always put runes in there that cost a few silver and not a few GOLD.
5) All ascended trinkets can be bought for laurels (+ ectoplasm for earrings) and if you plan to WvW you might want to get the inscriptions from the WvW vendor which adds five to a stat and increased/reduced damage to/from WvW guards. With full inscriptions, that’s 3% reduced damage from guards and 2% increased damage to guards.
they can think what they want is best for their vision, decide what is best for everyone. But if people stop playing the game and the money stops rolling in then who is the fool?
This question is too confusing for new players. Could you make it a multiple choice question?
The gating complaints are mostly complaints because people don’t know you can do most of what you could do before at level 2.
Oh, you can still do most of what you could do before at level 2? You mean, like, Skill Challenge? Personal Story? That kind of stuff? Is that the stuff you can still do at level 2? Can you still unlock all of your weapon skills at level 2?
It should of been ONE set of weapons and armor that SCALED as you level from 18-79 – then maybe it would of been worth it.
Exactly. In the time that it takes you to farm the materials/gold to make that stuff, you could have leveled from 65 to 80 using experience boosters and killing random mobs, and made money in the process rather than spending it.
Just go further south. The trees don’t show up on the map in low level areas. Once you reach the middle of the map, you should start to see gathering materials.
I tried buying some beers from the heart merchant in Edwin Monastery but he does not sell them anymore…
Save the gods’ beer!
Would just like to know that the issue is in the works, even a quick fix until something better can be done would help.
They are working on a slow fix.
The Chinese launch didn’t do as well as the US launch, so that claim holds little water. The game as more popular in the US than it has shown to be in China so far.
Then, why in the kitten did they make this version more like China’s?
Which, of course, is just a way to distract from the real point, which is that at one time ArenaNet had a bold, clear vision for the game, which no longer seems to be the case.
They still have a clear vision for the game. They want to turn the game into China Wars 2
well that seems reasonable, each to their own, do you play a low level character?
I played (notice the past-tense) a low-level character because I was interested in trying a necromancer.
Wow. We definitely should.
I think I will. BRB sending him a personal message on YouTube.
Hah, just stumbled upon my beloved bunny heart in the Foothills. Bunnies do not even try anymore. ;/
That quest was featured in AngryJoe’s review of the game. Maybe we should tell him that the game is boring, now.
saw that I got 7 skillpoints for hitting 50 and then realizing I dont seem to get skillpoints per level anymore and just decided that I couldnt be kitten d to play anymore today…
The lack of skill points from leveling is actually a lot more annoying for me than the level-gated skills.
They were poisoning the brothers and sisters of my Hylek would-be Sensei. That’s pretty evil in my book.
I stand corrected. Anyone who tries to prevent you from learning Frogjitsu is obviously evil.
ArenaNet would nerf any rewarding aspect of the game, likely so that you would feel more inclined to convert gems to gold.
Basically, the reason that I’ve lost a ton of enthusiasm for this game since April, if not before.
- Terrible, terrible writing and dialogue that is too lighthearted to ever take seriously. I have heard that this has changed for the better in Season 2, but I could care less about Living Story.
I don’t think Living Story Season 2 is good. However, it is much easier to take seriously than the first season, which was laughably shallow.
Ascended gear and the incompetence with which it was implemented. Over 1 year ago there was a dev post that stated the remaining missing stat combinations for ascended trinkets would be released in the following update (E.G. Carrion and a few others). This never happened. Something that should literally take 5 minutes of development time to add has taken over 1 year to implement and has received no further acknowledgement.
I always thought ascended gear was a bad idea. IMHO, the game never needed it in the first place.
Getting nerfed every patch. My main character that I play is a Thief, and while although I will concede the class was too strong in some areas, it did not justify receiving a nerf literally almost every single patch since the game’s release. It was nerfed to be the only class without a 1200 range attack early on, and countless nerfs later, including nerfs to skills that were clearly never good to begin with, makes the class feel like a husk of it’s former self. [https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/thief/Complete-List-of-Thief-Nerfs] here is a quick, now outdated example for your reference. [/url] You’d better believe Last Refuge still exists though.
I’ve been saying for a long time that thieves are not overpowered, per se. STEALTH is overpowered. And no, making Shortbow 4 count as a strike does not solve this problem. The problem wasn’t that you could use Shortbow 4 and remain stealthed. The problem was that you should never be able to immediately re-stealth when stealth runs out, regardless of whether you hit anyone or not. There needs to be a Revealed status for anyone coming out of stealth (not just thieves) so they can’t immediately re-stealth. Re-stealth is broken, and it will always be broken, particularly for thieves who can stealth easier than any other profession. If you want to stealth for longer you should have to trait for stealth to last longer, not just equip a bunch of skills and combos that allow you to stealth and stealth and stealth and stealth one more time with no drawbacks.
TL;DR: Anet doesn’t want you to have rewarding content.
Yeah, that’s basically what I’ve been feeling for the last year.
